We were working, coming home tired, niggling as married couples do about the usual household gripes, but without sleep and feeling awful Pete was struggling.  I am ashamed to admit that although I tried to be supportive, there were times I would get annoyed at his lack of enthusiasm for things; I just didn’t understand the magnitude of how dreadful he was feeling.  Only retrospectively can I appreciate how hard those days were for him. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, yet ironically never around when you need it.  The cycle continued to get worse, and after 12 months when the dermatologist finally diagnosed him with folliculitis it seemed like we FINALLY had an answer. Retrospectively, it’s almost ironic how many trips to the doctor and how much searching didn’t throw up the answer. Just type ‘Hodgkins Lymphoma’ into Google and it’s all there.  But because at that point we didn’t have an answer, and didn’t know what it was, we just hid it underneath the shiny façade of normal family life, and tried desperately to get on with things, because, especially when you have kids, that’s just what you have to do.
