This one needs a caption - This is Bill Altemus and Lee Harrison with the Animac, right as it was about to be trashed.
The ANIMAC was a prototype machine and the first working capture rig which could animate 3d figures in real-time. Lee Harrison, together with Edwin J. Tajchman, received the National Academy of Television Arts and Science award for their Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development.
You can learn more about this marvel of 80s tech in chapter 12.2 of the book "Computer Graphics and Computer Animation: A Retrospective Overview": link

Up until I went traipsing around youtube for random logo vids in middle school/early high school, I didn't know just HOW LONG good ol F.H.E. was in business. I had two christmas special tapes back then that were released around the late 80s and another one from the early 90s, so my kid self only saw the yellow 80s variant and the 90s paintbrush one.
Yeah, you can tell this was made on a real low budget like a LOT of vhs company logos in the early 80s. It's sometimes called the soda pop variant and for good reason imo. The big computer generated ball of light makes me think of fizzy pop and the popping bleeps and bloops sound almost exactly like the sound a glass of ginger ale would make immediately after pouring it, only with the audio increased by a lot.

Scanimate: The Origins of Computer Motion Graphics Get to know the first computer used for motion graphics and animation, Scanimate, and the men who have kept the machine alive for the last 40 years
I want to say it's as "computer" as analog synthesizers are, but I'm not sure how universally understood that description would be. Basically, it's electronic without being digital.

🎄 How the Brain Stole Christmas 🎄
Tumblr media
Looking for some holiday cheer with a touch of scheming genius?
Written entirely in Dr. Seuss-inspired rhyme, Brain has had it with Christmas at the Warner Brothers studio lot. His latest scheme? Steal Christmas! It might not be taking over the world, but it would at least help with all the NOISE, NOISE, NOISE down at the lot.
📖 Read it now on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/61336618
Excerpt:
Then he got an idea!  An awful idea! THE BRAIN GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA! "I know just what to do!" he practically gloated. Pinky was worried, I hope you all noted. "Are you pondering what I'm pondering?" Brain said to his friend. "Gee, Brain, I'm not a fan of the shaved reindeer trend." "No, you buffoon, I'll make a disguise! I'll look like Saint Nick to everyone's eyes." "All I need is a reindeer..." The Brain looked around. But, since reindeer are scarce, there was none to be found. Did that stop the Brain? No! The Brain has some smarts! "If I can't find reindeer, I'll build one from parts!" Brain gathered some tools—Pinky sighed with relief. "This gets complicated, so I'll try to be brief," Brain said as he built a reindeer from steel. With antlers and hooves, it almost looked real. With a flourish the Deer Bot 2000 was done. "Now we need a disguise. I have just the one. I'll be Saint Nick, and you'll be my elf. These costumes are good if I say so myself."

Gallop! A Scanimation Picture Book. Small art book has several pages of images that seem to move. The reading is simple and perfect for young readers. The animated images are inspirational. Super fun!

Welcome to My Little Corner!
Hey there, I'm scanime, and I like to write fanfic about Freakazoid and Pinky and the Brain, usually set in the long ago time of the 1990s. (I need to occasionally remind myself the shows are thirty years old. 😬)
📖 My works are on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/scanime
🐭 I'm also trying a side blog about my writing: Freaks, Mice, and Villains. Feel free to check it out for more updates, sneak peeks, and fandom fun! (It's also where I'll probably be posting more regularly.)
Thanks for stopping by!

Found an image of an LP cover I want to rotate, so that I can see the animation. This is tricky so far, trying to figure out how 33⅓ rounds per minute translates into how man rotations with how many frames per second.
After I have spent an hour or two on experimentation, I now am looking around for how I can learn to do this properly.
Also, there is a difference between phenakistiscopes, zoopraxiscopes, zoetropes, and scanimation, which I find neat.
Adding a few hashtags so I can hook this post up to the open net infrastructure here on Tumblr, as well as adding the following links I will use as reference material until I figure it out
Create a Faux Zoetrope in Adobe After Effects by ECAbrams on YouTube
Creating a Phenakistiscope with Adobe After Effects by ECAbrams on YouTube
I will post the outcome when I am done, and I hope I will surprise you.
