Tumblr media
Draw out your picture, can be directly on the page or a cutout. For this piece i did a cutout
Tumblr media
I use more of my memo paper and scrapbook paper when I use cutouts, and before sticking anything down, I arrange everything into a design I like.
At this point i try to keep a color scheme in mind, I match the papers to the main colors of the piece, or for whatever vibe i’m going for. For instance if i was doing an underwater theme, I would stick to mainly blues.
In this case my colors are black, pink, and white. I sometimes deviate from the color scheme when its small stickers, but the majority follows the scheme.
Tumblr media
Take note of any negative space, focus on those areas first.
Tumblr media
Washi tape is one of the first steps for me. I tried to think of both the color scheme and theme. Theme isn’t super important, especially if you only have a few rolls of tape, but I try to match it with the image even vaguely.
cat, maid, cute- I tried to match these themes. If you really want to you could even go with a tech theme. I usually try to make the theme either what is explicitly shown or what matches the personality.
Tumblr media
The biggest stickers go down before anything else. This is the time I use my planner and decal stickers. Most of the time the planner stickers have words on them but have no actual meaning, they are there because of their color, sometimes however, I put a couple planner stickers with a cheeky saying to poke fun at the characters, the “get it girl” being an example. Decal stickers are to go with the theme as well. Neko milk sticker is self explanatory, kuromi fits the cutesy theme.
Tumblr media
Now is when i try looking for smaller stickers, and stickers of different types.
Following the theme, I put paw prints around the page
I like for nearly all my stickers to have some relevancy towards the plot or character or theme. This is not necessary and I don’t always follow this
Easy stickers to find/use regardless of theme are hearts, stars, and smiley faces. Hearts are always my go-to
Tumblr media
I add more stickers to places that feel too empty, and I remove a few stickers I feel clash with the image. At this point I could consider this page done, however I want to get rid of any blank paper showing through.
Tumblr media
I finish off with deco stickers, as they are very small. Whenever otacon is involved I like to use my computer themed stickers- and with huey I like to be either mean or ironic, hence the bad and devil stickers and then the “angel” sticker near him
Tumblr media
Completely optional step- cover the page.
Be sure to take off any 3D stickers or embellishments beforehand, put them back on after covering.
In my journal, color/ink transfer happens a lot- especially if i use my gel pens. Instead of busting out the fixative spray, I like to cover my page in a shimmery laminate sticker. I also use clear plastic to cover the page, taping it over the page. The clear plastic is always Recycled, mainly from sticker sheets, the packaging or the sheet itself. Sometimes i use ziploc bags, once I even taped in tissue paper as a divider.
Tumblr media
That’s everything!!! Feel free to ask any questions!!!

cultivating your hobbies to become that girl
as summer starts to end, i find my days a little emptier and im full of anticipation for the coming academic year. but the last thing i want to do is waste the last part of summer so now is the perfect time to cultivate or begin a new hobby, focusing on four areas to level up your body, skills, mind and passions! enjoy angels and i hope this gives you some inspiration.
────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ───────
body
having a hobby that helps you reach your dream body, maintain a healthy lifestyle or just help with your mental health (as moving your body always does!) is such a good idea. the past few months my workout schedule has decreased due to the amount of schoolwork i have had and exam season so now is the perfect time for me to get more disciplined and build up a good workout scheme. my hobbies based around my body are pilates or yoga, both of which help me with my fitness goals. here are some more ideas/inspiration for some hobbies you could start:
‘hot girl walks’ - set a goal for your daily steps and go on walks everyday to help you achieve that.
running daily.
swimming daily.
tennis or badminton daily.
joining a sports club such as football or gymnastics.
dance - could be by yourself at home following dance workouts!
strength training.
starting a fitness challenge - such as a month long youtube challenge.
start making your own fitness content! film videos or write tutorials.
bike riding daily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
skills
finding a hobby that helps you develop/cultivate your skills is so important. mine personally is cooking/baking as it helps me focus on giving my body what it needs, becoming more independent and providing for those i love. here are some ideas/inspiration:
painting.
making your own clothes - sewing, knitting or crocheting.
gardening.
scrapbooking.
photography.
drawing.
writing - poetry, novels, articles or anything similar.
acting - helps with public speaking, confidence and making friends.
jewellery making.
chess or a similar intense mental game - cultivates your thinking skills and mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mind
finding a hobby that helps you mentally, especially if relevant to schoolwork or career plans is so helpful. mine is reading/engaging with literature as not only does it align with my academic work but also helps me with how i think, view the world and allows me to be more empathetic.
mindfulness/meditation.
learning to play an instrument.
writing/researching around your subjects.
budgeting - good way of keeping track of and understanding money even if you aren’t planning on doing anything economics based!
journalling or keeping a diary.
joining/starting a book club.
starting a studyblr, study youtube channel etc.
learning a new language.
tutoring someone - great way of helping yourself learn as well!
joining a debate team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
passions
finding a hobby around one of your passions is such a fun and unique way of engaging in things you enjoy. mine personally is visiting museums/areas of historical importance as i am so passionate about history.
visiting art galleries.
attending the theatre/cinema.
going to live music events.
visiting libraries/book shops - growing your wish list, finding new book inspo etc!
going to cooking classes, restaurants or cafes.
travelling to new areas (could be local or international) - perhaps to develop language skills, find places to hike etc.
attending lectures on subjects youre interested in.
watching documentaries or video essays.
starting a new course - i do several history courses, my most recent was on European empires!
making a blog, channel, instagram etc for a new hobby or interest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ─────── thank you for reading angels! hopefully this will help us all on our hobby journeys and have given you ideas of hobbies to try or develop for the end of summer or just in general! love, m.

How obsessed and hyper-fixated are you with your fanfic characters?
Me:
BOOKBINDING!
Ominis and Phineas now sit on my shelf along with my other books ♡
This was my first time binding fanfic, and no better choice than my own, "Take Me To The Lakes" (AO3 / Wattpad)
update (March 30): New cover art by the amazing @rinthecap 🩵
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More photos and the step-by-step after the cut! (+ the appendix with Taylor Swift songs in a stylised lyric book)
I'm all about my crafty hobbies. I've been eyeing bookbinding for a while, and the algorithm finally convinced me to dive into it so I'd have a reason to procrastinate on writing
Having written a shorter fic ("Lakes" is roughly 35k words) gave me the perfect opportunity to start with something simpler.
The main tutorial used is the one by NeatFreakGeek on Tiktok.
Step 1: The typeset
I used the base template file by NeatFreakGeek, which already had the settings for printing in formatted book signatures.
With the basic body of the document formatted and ready, I started the personalization: choosing the fonts, spacing, sizing etc.
For the quote at the beginning, I chose one of the lines I wrote for Ominis + the wisteria.
For chapter headers, I chose the Gemini constellation. (In the story, Ominis and Phineas got their middle names from the stars in the same constellation, Castor and Pollux.)
I also made the chapter titles with the HTV to give it an extra glow.
Sight is overrated. Phineas makes all my senses the very essence of life itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the story was rather "short", in order to have a thicker spine, I added an appendix with the stylised "lyric book". This was probably my favourite part of typesetting!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 2: The textblock
With a little lot of trial and error and more mathematics than expected, I printed each signature at a time, then folded each at a time, making sure it didn't get mixed up across the signatures. My printer does front/back automatically, but to print the commissioned arts as borderless, I gave myself a headache, printing it separately and manually. This step could have been done considerably faster with a laser printer and b&w content only :)
Next, it was sewing and glueing. I won't go into detail here because the video tutorials are way better at explaining. All in all, with the right tools, this was done rather easily and with barely any mistakes, so I didn't have to print anything again, thankfully.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 3: The endpapers
I got a scrapbook 12x12in block in this abstract colours. I had many different ideas on how to match the theme, but I ended up choosing these colourful patterns that align with how Ominis perceives the world. Then, I added the quotes from the story.
The endpaper of the front got this sky-like print to go with the dialogue Ominis and Phineas have when they are children.
P: How would you know what blue skies look like? O: I don't know. And I don't mind not knowing.
The endpaper of the back is in green x blue shades, colours that are also a big part of the story. For the quote, I chose one of their last lines when their relationship is established.
P: Ominis, you always care too much about the others... but who takes care of you? O: No one ever did. P: Let me care for you. Please. Let me love you, Ominis Gaunt. O: Will it make any difference if I say no? P: Absolutely not. O: Will it make any difference if I love you back? P: Fucking absolutely yes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 4: The cover! (Yes, the most interesting part!)
This was the most challenging step in both the conception of the design (too many ideas to choose from) and the execution (I've never hated box cutters so much.)
With the basic cardboard casing cut and glued, I chose a faux leather material as a book cloth. This might be the choice I regret the most, because the glue it comes with is not that strong, so it would often unstick easily, and also, it's a bit too thick, leaving the corners a bit weird. But the final result was a bit worth it.
For the cover design, I printed the art with fabric HTV and ironed it on. On top of it, I threw in some wisteria petals (a reference to the song "the lakes", by Taylor Swift), and another quote of the story at the back.
I didn't have a cricut machine back then for the vynil pieces, so I ordered it online. This part was harder than I thought, once again because of the faux leather choice: as I ironed the HTV, some parts of the material melted lol.
Lastly, I decided last minute to create a clear dust jacket because the combination of the faux leather + printed HTV seemed tro fragile to be handled. I liked the final result, but ironing the HTV on the acetate was a pain lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In summary, this was so much fun and not as hard as I expected, craft-wise. The designing of it all took the most time just because I wanted every little detail to have a meaning :)
I made two copies to gift one to a friend, so it gave me the opportunity to make the first one and mess it up, then, for the second one, I had already learned from my mistakes.
There are many things I'd do differently for my next binds, but that's the most fun part: experimenting with materials, themes, and processes.

maciemace: hi everyone! i know i said i wasn't doing music for a while but... it's been a while. presenting from the vault, how to be a woman
Tumblr media
src: Greta Isaac ♀︎ Stellar Marianas ♀︎ Darren Brown ♀︎ Simo Harjane ♀︎ Paul Becker ♀︎ special thank you to @praetoravila for creating macie & helping out with the caption!
Tumblr media
here's a little teaser trailer i made for the macie edit i posted a few weeks ago :) below, i'll be yapping on how it came together. not quite a tutorial but just laying out my personal workflow, a kind of step-by-step application of the stuff in this mindmap.
-> MAKING OF HTBAW X MACIE
start: 2 feb 2025 | finished: 2 apr 2025
1 - song choice.
when listening to music, i'd keep an ear out if it reminds me of any particular characters. if it passes the vibe check, i'll pick apart every line to make sure it's a fit. then it goes in my giant notes app of songs & characters
late bloomer (macie's seventh album) was fresh on my mind at the time, and i quickly connected the themes of being failed by the people who were meant to protect you in the song to the album/playlist.
Tumblr media
sneak peek of some more songs i associate with macie. leak water - bent knee ♀︎ moving on. - valerie hell
usually, the decision to make a video edit comes much later, but i knew almost instantly with this one.
2 - trim song.
i'll identify which section of the song encapsulates the character the most, and if there's certain lines i could visualise/know is present in the source material.
Tumblr media
trim to loop, making sure the melody is resolved and the lyrics make sense where it cuts off. i usually go for verse and chorus (with exception of the jennifers edit)
3 - find clips.
i knew i didn't want to use clips from julie and the phantoms. i wanted it to be a music video macie would probably drop in-universe, and jatp footage does not fit with that vision.
at first i wanted to match the original htbaw mv: white wall fashion edit vibes. but i only found 30 seconds of footage of madison reyes that matched that description so i dropped it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
how to be a woman ♀︎ mariposa by madi (2021)
i basically went through madison reyes' entire youtube channel, screencapping shots i think might be useful. i wasn't sure for a long time of what look i was going for. i knew i wanted to include vintage barbie ads as a stand-in for amber (not like in-universe she'd say yes to starring in a vid talking shit about her lol)
once i committed to the scrapbook-y look (as with the roxy/brand new eyes vid), it came much easier.
Tumblr media
"shot list". going through line by line to see what clips i need. most of it remained in the final video
the B-section ("remember just as long [...]") is from a different pov, so i made sure to make it visually different than the rest, but doesn't stray too far away that it's jarring.
4 - edit.
the first thing i do is lay down the lyrics and colour code each section (verse1, verse2, pre-chorus, chorus etc). they act as markers & also to break the 1 minute audio into more manageable chunks. the actual style of the text i'd leave as the final step
Tumblr media
colour coding helps visualise which sections to work on and complete. i add extra markers within each section for certain beats and ear candy i want to highlight.
then it's basically dragging, dropping, and trimming what i collected in step 3. musicality is a huge priority for me (expanded more in mindmap). i'd stretch and squish the timings to match the song.
fav settings/tools for these scrapbook-y looking videos:
composite mode: lighter colour / darker colour
luma keyer
i like how they both give rough imperfect borders between two overlaid clips
i usually won't have enough clips/the right clips to finish it in one pass, so i'll find alternate shots and revisit the source material multiple times throughout the process (i probably rewatched all of madison reyes' vlogs at least three times over). and it's just rinse and repeat of steps 3 & 4 until i fill up the timeline.
i'd reformat the text, and there you have it, the final htbaw x macie vid :) !
Tumblr media
thanks for reading til the end! if you could spare a little bit more time to click here -> daily clicks for palestine. and i'd appreciate if you could also spare some change for this -> isnad. thank you ! <3

Mood Boards vs. Pinterest Boards: Which Is Right for Your Wedding Planning?
Tumblr media
Wedding planning is an exciting adventure, filled with special moments and endless possibilities. With so many ideas floating around and choices to make, figuring out how to organize and communicate your vision can be tricky. Enter two wedding planning staples: mood boards and Pinterest boards. Both are fantastic tools, but each serves a slightly different purpose. If you’re not sure which is right for you, keep reading to find out how they differ and how they can help make your wedding planning run smoothly!
Pinterest Boards
If you’ve ever been on Pinterest, you know it’s a treasure trove of ideas. From dress designs to centerpiece inspiration, Pinterest boards allow you to gather and organize endless ideas for your big day. You can think of it as your digital scrapbook where you can save images, articles, and even DIY tutorials with just a click. Pinterest is ideal for brainstorming and discovering new trends, and it’s easy to get lost in the wealth of inspiration. Without a clear focus, your board might end up a bit chaotic, making it harder to define a cohesive wedding style.
Mood Boards: Your Personalized Wedding Vision
While Pinterest boards are great for collecting ideas, mood boards take it a step further by helping you narrow down and define your vision. A mood board is a curated collection of images, textures, and colors that represent the overall vibe you want for your wedding. Whether it’s a physical board with magazine clippings and fabric swatches or a digital collage, a mood board gives you a clear, visual representation of your theme, in a single place. Mood boards are perfect for focusing your ideas and ensuring every detail aligns with your vision. They’re also incredibly helpful when communicating with vendors. Showing them a cohesive mood board allows them to understand your style at a glance, and can help ensure everyone is on the same page during the planning process.
Which Is Right For You?
The great news is that you don’t have to choose just one! Pinterest boards are great for gathering inspiration during the early stages of planning. Once you’ve pinned your heart out, use a mood board to refine those ideas into a clear and focused vision. By combining both tools, you’ll get the best of both worlds—endless inspiration with a streamlined, cohesive plan. If you’re short on time or find it hard to sift through hundreds of ideas, you might want to skip Pinterest and go straight to creating a mood board. On the flip side, if you love exploring and collecting creative ideas, Pinterest might be your go-to starting point.

I originally saw on a tiktok but they didn't have a great step by step for the folding so I searched for a "Danish star" tutorial and found this!
https://tina1802.com/fabricstar/
I didn't starch my fabric at all but feel like it still turned out okay. I gave it away to a coworker today but plan to make some more out of fabric and scrapbooking paper
You don't need to sew it down after, but since I was giving it away and didn't have glue, I did a few stitches to hopefully keep it locked down
made my first handmade ornament! Excited to make a few more for gifts this year. Wanna try a couple more complicated ones but this was nice since it was basically just weaving instead of sewing 😊

Advice for someone who wants to pick up a new hobby and work on it consistently? Maybe even multiple hobbies?
Love your blog btw
Watch lots of youtube tutorials and follow lots of artists that are into the things you want to get into! (like here on Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) this helps with inspiration and gives you background knowledge on how things work for when you start up a hobby for yourself. Local libraries have random classes you can take so it's worth checking them out to see if they offer anything that you'd like to learn (mine does a lot of technology based stuff these days like 3D printing). Also if you have the cash, community colleges offer classes for cool things like pottery, glass blowing, sewing, watercolor, scrapbooking, and more. I checked my local community college's website and depending on the course, class fees were between $35 and $225 (the cheaper ones are one day classes and the more expensive ones are multiple day courses. also they're after hours on weekdays and on weekends)
If you can find them, join small communities for the hobbies you're interested in! so like smaller subreddits and discords (big ones suck and are mostly people showing off how much money they can spend tbh. but small ones generally have cool knowledgeable people who share progress photos, tutorials, and will help you with whatever questions you may have). Immersing yourself in a hobby environment helps with inspiration and the initiative to create!
Start nice organized bookmarks in your browser and bookmark everything that you find cool or helpful, be that tutorials, tools, materials, other artists' works, what have you. use subfolders so everything is easy to find later.
Keep a notebook on hand for your ideas. I use a cheap bullet journal because it makes it easy to create little sections on each page for multiple ideas. also get one of those multi colored pens to keep different ideas easy to differentiate from each other. This is helpful for before you start a hobby so you can plan out what you really want to do and what you need. once you start a hobby it helps you organize your plans, list materials, draw out patterns, etc.
Last thing is be reasonable with your money. always check second hand sales for equipment before buying new if you can risk it. I got a TON of knitting stuff from Goodwill once. I also got a knitting machine from eBay as part of an estate sale for half of what they normally sell for. shopgoodwill is also a good resource, as well as Facebook sales. Craigslist is still out there but god it's a pain to use. If you have a local community for a hobby become a part of it because (other than meeting cool people and having fun) you can get lucky and inherit old equipment from people for little cost or even free when they upgrade their setups.
If used isn't an option, be savvy with sales. Use camelcamelcamel to track Amazon's prices to make sure sales are *really* sales and not instances of sellers inflating prices and then discounting them back to the normal cost. As much as marketing emails suck, subscribe to emails for sites that sell things you need for your hobbies (ex. Joann Fabrics, Blick, Tandy Leather, Dharma Trading, and smaller independent supply stores).
Once you have a good idea and initiative, start small and within reason for your skill level. Don't expect to build a work room overnight or create masterpieces immediately. Build a mindset that perfection isn't real and every piece you create is another step forward in your journey as an artist. You will never stop learning and growing so there will never be a point when you are "done" and can rest on your laurels. Even abject failure in creating is experience you need so that you can fully understand the limits of yourself and your medium as well as how to work around those limits to continue creating. It can also give you a chance to stop and think critically about your methods in situations where you had a reasonable idea but went about it in a less than ideal way (<= I do this thing constantly lol, first ideas arent always the most efficient...)
Remember that creating is about fun and expressing yourself. If you arent having fun don't feel like you need to keep pushing yourself to work on something. abandoning unfun projects is 100% fine. Your energy is better spent working on things you can feel invested in anyway.
So um TLDR: immerse yourself in inspiration and community, do your research, stay organized, and have reasonable expectations for yourself. also have fun :)

Hii, idk if you've gotten this question already but i journal a lot and i have scrapbooks like i just really enjoy doing that and sharing it with my family and i just wanted to know how you got started with creating and selling journals bc im thinking about doing something like that
I really recommend starting with tutorials or online courses, there are plenty! I came up with my own method in result of experiments, but knowing the basics and trying is the first step. I made my first journal out of things I had in my home and that's what I recommend to you before you buy all the fancy tools. You just need some decorative paper, a smooth cardboard, paper sheets for the pages, strong liquid glue, a thick thread and a needle. Experimenting on such 'scraps' will help you get to know the technique and know what you need to purchase in the future. When it comes to selling, I started on instagram, so friends and family were most of my first customers, before I started marketing on tumblr and opened an Etsy shop. Friends and family are a great beginner market, they always need gifts for someone, wedding or christening albums and such. I also had very low prices at the beginning, because I was still learning, and I keep increasing them according to my skills even now. Let me know if you have any specific questions, I can't make a step by step tutorial of my method but I'd love to help ☺️

Sometime in the hell that was 2020, I came across @armoredsuperheavy‘s blog and fic binding tutorial. The thought of seeing my words in print, of being able to hold in my hand a story I’d put my heart into, moved me to tears.
My first project was an easy decision: Whatever it Costs, a roughly 76k-word Lord John story that @iihappydaysii and I wrote together over the course of a few months last year. We poured our souls into that story; we laughed and we cried together. We built the story that we wanted to read, the epic romance that two wonderfully complex--and thoroughly screwed-over characters--deserved. With an unashamedly happy ending.
I started work on this book without telling Ash (my coauthor) a thing about it. I wanted to surprise him. Time is a hot commodity for me, so it took a few days to typeset it and then a few more to actually make the book. But I’d been holding onto the secret for MONTHS, and as the books (I made two copies, one for each of us) came together, it started to get painful to keep it from Ash.
Now that he's received his copy (he's over the moon!) I wanted to share the process. So, so much appreciation to @armoredsuperheavy for sharing their process and literally charting the course to make some dreams come true! Not to mention introducing me to a hobby that I truly love!
Here’s the finished product, and there’s some process pics below the cut too:
Tumblr media
Yeah. That’s a lace ribbon. Because I’m extra.
Shout-out to Affordable Bookbinding Equipment, where I purchased this punching cradle (kick ass craftmanship and I didn’t have to wait on my husband to do it). It probably saved me hours and two days of hand pain. (That is NOT paid promotion, btw, I was just THAT pleased.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The title and chapter headers are in a font called Stonehenge. I made the embellishments and ornaments in Canva.
Tumblr media
There’s the baby resting. I made some technical mistakes here, but hey! It was my first attempt after a small journal I made just to feel the process, and I’m not at all unhappy with it. That’s a combo press, btw, also from ABE.
Tumblr media
Marble end papers (it’s scrapbook paper, nothing super fancy) that sort of reminded me of rumpled bedsheets. It is a romance, after all. 😉
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While the first case was drying (the last step), I literally sat down and just cried. I cried with pure joy of seeing this come to life. And I almost cried again when Ash messaged me when he opened his copy. Confession: I’ve been reading my copy before bed for the last three nights. I can’t tell you how magical a feeling that is.
I think we can all agree that 2020 was awful and 2021 has had a rocky start to say the least. But I'm just going to say it: in a year of horrible things, this labor of love, built word by word with a very real friend, has been an absolute gem of an experience.
Thank you again, @armoredsuperheavy for generously sharing your knowledge with the world! 💖
@iihappydaysii... I am so proud of us!! 💖💖

haknyeon x gender neutral reader — soulmates that keep meeting in different centuries/eras
Tumblr media
⭗ once upon a dream
⭗ tbz haknyeon
⭗ soulmate! haknyeon x gn! reader, angst [SFW]
⭗ cursing, maybe diabetes
⭗ 1.8k
⭗ a/n: ngl you got me good with this one. took me awhile to crack it out and think about something worth writing even though I already had an idea - I wasn't sure how to piece it tgt into a one shot but here it is!
Tumblr media
"oh, it's the duke of the east!"
"the duke of the east!"
keeping your eyes on the chandelier hanging from the ceiling, it's the gasps and the exclaims that pull you out of your trance. shoving the coin back into your pocket, the trumpets start to blow and music erupts all over the hall, the crowd of people starting to part like Moses parting the red sea.
"May I present... duke lee hyunjae!"
Next, it was the small, minuscule squeals that paint a slightly disgusted wince over your lips. But you smirk it off as your hands come together, with the duke at the top of the stairs bowing.
the ball begins with the duke initiating a dance, with one lucky duchess from the other side of the country. but you are unbothered - you were only invited as a royal escort, meant to keep tabs on the pair of twins- a young prince and a princess - here.
soon, the twins are taken into the hands of some older royalties present at the ball, giving you a breather where you slipped out through the balcony. the gentle wind gushes through your hair as you close the balcony doors behind you, glancing through the tiny gap of the curtains to make sure your responsibilities were still in the dance hall.
the moat around the castle glistens under the night sky, the cool air resting in your nostrils and bringing calm to your nerves.
and yet even that is short-lived when the door behind you clicks open and someone steps out of the dance hall.
"your majesty," immediately bowing, your eyes fall to the floor.
"oh, no! no no!" ju haknyeon hurriedly bows too, rushing towards you and resting his palms on your shoulders to pull you back up. "it's okay! i saw someone going out so I got curious."
"oh, well, I should escort you back in then-"
"no, please. i just... wanted some peace and quiet."
with a gentle nod, you let him past you and lay his hands on the rock platform of the balcony, far extending into space and almost giving you the feeling of falling over and into the moat below.
"beautiful, isn't it? the moon?"
"it is a full moon tonight, your majesty," you join him at the edge of the balcony, hands placed behind your back by instinct.
"it's just... it's so far and yet so bright," he pauses. "well, I know it's the sun, but... it definitely has its own honor."
silence engulfs the space between and around you, and your eyes gradually drift from scanning the curves of the architectural stone to the royalty standing before you.
but the silence is again, interrupted, when the young twins burst out through the door and approach you, smiles on their faces.
squatting, they squeal as the duke of the party runs after them, and they pull you backwards despite you already squatting.
"oh, your majesty," standing to bow, you lower your head as the young prince and princess cling to your clothes.
"why are you all doing out here?" lee hyunjae turns to haknyeon, who lowers his head just a tad bit. "party's back inside, so come on in."
then the children yank on your hands, pulling you along and back into the dance hall. you hear a clink - it's the coin that you had been fiddling with before the duke had shown up. turning very quickly in a bid to look for the coin, haknyeon gives you one last grin before you're pulled beyond the curtains.
Tumblr media
your eyes bolt open upon the sharp ring that slices through the air.
stupid alarm, you think to yourself. the sweat's attracted your hair to your neck and your oily face and you look down to remember that you hadn't changed out of your clothes from the night before.
"y/n!" your mother's shrill voice replaces the alarm, then your brother blasts the loudest version of stayin' alive by the bee gees you've ever heard.
"oh, for fuck's sake! eric!"
"what?!"
"mom!" you scream, pulling yourself to your feet as you process the afternoon sun flooded all around the room. your groggy eyes scan the floor for any stray pieces of clothing before you randomly pick a grey tank top and switch it out with your flannel. then you begin yanking your pants off your legs, nearly falling over the carpeted floor.
"don't yell at me like that!" she yells back when you yank open door. in her hands was a basket full of laundry, then her eyes fly up and down your body, catapulting you into an instinctive panic.
"why do you look so haphazard?"
"I just woke up," you frown at her, running your hand through your hair as the music continues blasting from eric's room. "who do you think I am? mick jagger?"
"excuse me-"
"oi, eric!" now, your fist is running into his door, your fuse slowly burning out by the second. "do you think you could become any more hard-of-hearing?!"
"fuck off!"
with a sharp bang, you ram your clenched fist into his door once more before your mother loses her head. ripping eric's name label off the door, she's screaming at you with the laundry basket in her hands, trailing after you while you take 2 steps at a time down the stairs in your house.
it's like you don't bother to brush your teeth or worry about your appearance before you get the front door open, ready to throw yourself out onto the middle of the road in a bid to be the rebel you are. hurling the label to the ground, you step in it and start kicking it around on the asphalt.
"what the hell do you think you're doing?!" she shouts from the front door, almost throwing the laundry basket to the floor. "get back here!"
"ask eric to turn down the fucking stereo!"
"get off the damn road before-"
"y/n!"
the third-party voice catches your attention, eyes immediately turning your whole head to look behind you.
"hak?" a frown falls across your face when you realise you were facing directly at the sun. "what are you doing here?"
"um," he lifts a bouquet of flowers and a paper bag. "ran errands for my mom."
your chest heaves, thoughts floating around in your head when you feel like you just saw him the night before - but you were sure he hadn't been out getting wasted like you did.
"hey, um, did we- did we hang out last night?"
"last night?" haknyeon raises a brow, then shakes his head. "nope." the pause lets you observe his quick glance to your mother still standing at your front door.
"weren't you busy last night? homework or something right?"
you're confused at first, but his wide grin afterwards settles it.
"ah!" feeling your own eyes light up, you turn and rest your hands on your hips. "yeah, I was working on- on homework last night!"
"I didn't ask," your mother shakes her head, unable to bring herself to reprimand you in the face of the nice neighbour down the street. "get back here!"
sighing in defeat, your tongue pokes the flesh on the inside of your cheek. you turn to side-eye haknyeon, watching him mouth a tiny 'sorry' to you.
"it's fine. you tried."
haknyeon provides you one more timid wave before you kick eric's label one last time and trudge back to the house.
Tumblr media
you're jolted awake when one of those free-falling sensations slap you awake from your drooling. the music blasting in your earpieces start to register in your head, the lyrics somehow still not making any sense at all with all the numbers in your tutorial workbook.
with a dry throat, you gulp and yank out the earpiece, pushing yourself off the chair and struggling to get to your numbed feet. you find haknyeon snoozing on the sofa of your shared apartment, the television still turned on and blasting the late late show where harry styles was babbling on and on about.
after getting a glass of water, you stand with one hand on your hip, taking your time to dampen your throat while watching harry talk to kendall jenner. but you turn when haknyeon shuffles, and you notice a thick book - something like looks like scrapbook - by his arm where his hand was limp.
something glimmers in one of the transparent pockets, so out of curiosity, you tip-toe over. craning your neck to find an angle where you can scan the item clearer, you take awhile to process the item.
it's a coin.
a squint shrinks your eyes, fingers reaching out for the booklet. you turn on your heels, letting the ceiling light shine on the metal much clearer.
1932.
"it's just... it's so far and yet so bright... well, I know it's the sun, but... it definitely has its own honor."
naturally, your eyes dart to haknyeon when you hear his voice in his head, but you're sure you're not hearing it from memory. by choosing to take a leap of faith and let curiosity get the better of you, you flip it again, this time finding something much stranger and difficult to explain.
it's a door label with a horribly drawn typography on it, and for some strange reason, you recognise the way the letter 'e' was written.
"ran errands for my mom."
with a thud, the scrapbook meets the floor and you stumble backwards, hands covering your mouth.
in your peripheral vision, haknyeon jumps to consciousness, hands by his hips on the cushion of the sofa when he notices your astonishment.
"hak-"
"no, wait-"
"what the hell are those? why- why do I- oh my god!"
"y/n, please, just calm down, alright? i can explain."
your heart is thumping in your head when he stands, slowly inching towards you with his hands out. you're not afraid of him, but about what's going to come out of his mouth.
"do you recognise the coin and the name label?"
"i- they look familiar- and i-"
"okay, good. means it's coming back to you."
"what?" the shakiness in your voice is worrying. "what does that mean?"
as he sucks in a deep breath, you hold yours.
"y/n... I've been alive for more than a hundred years, and ever since i found you in 1902, I've never let you out of my sight. not once."
