. 1928 "Portrait of the man" (Bronze) Léon Indenbaum 1890-1981 Russian sculptor, naturalized French, born in Belarus (Russian Empire), arrive in Paris in 1911 at "La Ruche". The artists of "La Ruche" will participate in the artistic movement "Ecole de Paris" with Alexander Archipenko, Constantin Brancusi, Rembrandt Bugatti, Marc Chagall, Joseph Csaky, Jacob Epstein, Léonard Foujita, Barbara Hepworth, Amedeo Modigliani, Chana Orloff, Pablo Picasso, François Pompon, Diego Rivera, Chaim Soutine, Ossip Zadkine ... His friends Amedeo Modigliani and Diego Rivera each painted a portrait of Leon Indenbaum. In 1968, Léon Indenbaum received the prestigious "Georges Wildenstein" Award of "Institut de France" for all of his work. And here are the rest. This dinosaur took me a really long time to make (I'm not sure how long exactly) and the entire thing is about 12 feet long, 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide. The skeleton is made from welded steel rods that took me 6 hours to do. The head is made from cardboard, aluminum foil and a concrete sculpting material called Pal Tiya. The body is covered in various plastics as a statement to the modern day dinosaurs (sea birds) that are starving to death on full bellies of plastic from our oceans. A lot of plastics are also made from petroleum which comes from fossils. I have named this deinonychus, Diana because part of the box I was using had the word Mediana which is medium in a different language and I had unmistakenly cut the box so it said, Diana inside the dinosaur's head. Questions of the Week

Has there been a person or experience that has steered your work in new or significant directions?

I think the number one person to influence my art has probably been my mom. Even though I have been passionate about my art since I was a teenager, I was hesitant to pursue it professionally. My mom, however, was extremely encouraging and she gave me the push I needed to fully commit to my decision. If it wasn’t for her support, I most likely wouldn’t be where I am right now at all.

What distinguishes visual art from craft?

I think the line dividing visual art from craft is often blurred; there is a lot of cross-over between the two, and so it can often be hard to distinguish one from the other. Nevertheless, in its truest form, visual art is a personal expression that displays the feelings and ideas of the artist. In contrast, craft is a professional skill that has been developed over time in order for one to make a living. That being said, visual art can also have craft - and some would argue that it indeed should; meanwhile, not all craft is meant to be viewed as art. However, I would suggest that the most impactful work, whether or not the maker’s original purpose was to make art or practice a craft, is almost always a meaningful mix of the two.

A CLAY VASE DESIGN MADE OUT OF COMPOST - YES WASTE MILK!

It’s difficult to believe that some thing like milk should flip into a material that’s as moldable as clay, and as strong as concrete whilst dried. Tessa Silva-Dawson, a pupil on the Royal College of Art, advanced a way to turn waste milk into a compostable clay-like cloth by way of combining it with chalk. Titled Chalk Cheese, the cloth uses excess skimmed milk created in the production of butter or cream. Rather than throwing this milk away, she mixed it with chalk sourced from a quarry in Hampshire to create a moldable cloth with the consistency of polymer clay.
