Truly grateful for the setup we have here in the studio. The companies we work with are very good to us and their support allows the freedom to create without ever giving a second thought to if we CAN do something that pops into our heads. If one of us has a random creative urge at 3am that keeps us tossing and turning until we finally roll out of bed at 7am on a Saturday morning because we just can’t wait any longer to get this idea implemented because creative brain that won’t rest until it’s happy… well… we can do that. Heading home after a trip to Bainbridge Island to meet with the folx from the Bainbridge Artisans Resource Network (BARN). And this, friends, is what 56 Scrappy Wonky Log Cabin blocks looks like. We love working on these and are obsessed with how each one is unique and special in its own way. But, more than that, we have discovered something more about ourselves. Working on these blocks exploring colors and composition has been a luxurious exploration of creativity. In general, we’ve been working on projects like this that allow us to be more creative and to explore new areas we never had time to “get to” before. And, frankly, we’re not prepared to go back to doing business “the way things were before.” We are grateful for all of the opportunities that we’ve been able to take advantage of over the years, but these past two months have been a revelation to us as creatives. Having the time and the freedom to create without deadlines and tethers has been exhilarating. We have felt a fire that we haven’t felt for years. We hope to share all of it with you all eventually and maybe pass on some of the joy and freedom we have felt. But… going back to a rushed business model where we never have time to feel like this again? No thanks. It’s more than a little scary but we’ll figure it out. We always do. And, as always, we’ll do our best to take you all along with us. Playing with new Scrappy Wonky Blocks construction and, once we started putting the tiny blocks together, we kind of accidentally put a binding on them and made Tiny Scrappy Wonky Quilts. 🤪 #AsOneDoes 🤣 If you saw our Stories, you saw these laying in the palm of Shannon’s hand. They are small and we are completely obsessed with them. Each is made from four Scrappy Wonky blocks and then backed and bound. Way too much fun and so satisfying to work on. It’s like doodling! Just with fabric. After all the unwrapping the past several days, it’s time to unwrap these two stunners. Those are two massive, gorgeous, luscious fat quarter bundles of @michaelmillerfabrics Cotton Couture. The brights have 37 pieces in stunning gradients and the NEW low contrast bundle has 38 pieces with 38 new colors that we’ve been looking forward to ever since we saw them at the Michael Miller offices this past Fall. Both of these are an integral part of at least four new projects in the first quarter of 2019 and we can’t wait to starting working with them… so we aren’t… waiting, that is. Late night sashiko🧵This stunning red is @bluemoonfiberarts Silk Thread 2 laceweight yarn.🧶 Yup… 100% silk yarn as thread is a beautiful thing and a lot of fun to work with. Because the yarn has a little more loft than an actual thread, the stitches stand out nicely from the surface of the fabric. Definitely going to be using this for other hand sewing projects.
