Surely, surely there was something wrong with this game. You know for a fact you ain't that lucky - especially in these anime gacha games - so either there was something wrong with this game or the devs were just that giving to their players.
You had decided to play Wuthering Waves on a whim, caught up on the excited chatter you've been hearing all over the internet at its coming release. Patiently waiting for the servers to open worldwide, you sat down on your cozy chair with some snacks and a drink, ready to play. A grin ticks your lips upwards as you're taken to choosing your character.
You gotta say, the game is pretty amazing on your first run. Attack, parry, dodge. Seems simple enough. With a few fights, you were getting used to the routine and the enemies' patterns. If you had to nitpick something, though-
"This feels a little too easy." You were by no means an overly skilled player, as far as you were aware. Maybe it's because you're just barely past the start of the game, but it feels like the enemies were dying a bit too quickly. And you were only dealing like 10 damage per swing.
But just as you say it, you sit up in your chair in attention. Did… did they just get harder to kill? No, wait, you did just raise your Union Level, so maybe that's why. The enemies' attack patterns are slightly more advanced and although you're dealing more damage, their health bars are keeping up with you. Well, you were complaining earlier, so maybe this was a good thing? You keep playing, now being kept on your toes during combat.
After grinding a bit more - how much time have you spent already? Not enough, you think - you finally unlock what you've been waiting for this whole time.
The gacha system.
You're no stranger to gacha games. If anything, it's the reason you played this game in the first place. Sure the combat was nice, but what was better than collecting these prettily designed anime men and women and running around with them on the open world map? Nothing was more fulfilling than staring at your growing roster of playable characters the longer you played the game.
And for Wuthering Waves, the first addition to your would-be collection appears on the screen.
You'd be lying if you said you were going into the game blind. With the amount of Jiyan videos you've seen from the betas and leaks, you may as well have played him for a month now. From idle animations to his forte attack, you watched as many videos available as you could. And each one solidified for you that you needed to pull for him. That man was coming home one way or another.
Grinding a little more astrite by doing a couple of missions here and there - you had 1,300 astrite, just a little more for the home goal and then- you were ready. Sure it's just a meager 10 pulls but it was definitely a start. And you never know… right? You click the 10 pull button and-
OH??? SHIT, WAS THAT GOLD JUST NOW???? YOU KNOW FOR A FACT GOLD IS A GOOD THING, RIGHT??? You click through the 3-star results as quick as you can and- YEAH YEAH THAT'S HIS ANIMATION IT'S HIM HE'S HOME IT'S JIYAN!
You all but kick the chair away and bump your whole lower half on the table as you jump up in joy. You may as well be doing backflips while you're at it. You got him??? On the first 10 pull, no less???? This game was spoiling you holy shit. And it's only been a day.
Immediately heading over to the characters screen, you go to Jiyan's profile and just. Stare at him. Basking in the fact that you played this game on day 1, got the first available limited 5 star, and on your first fucking 10 pull.
Holy shit.
You scream into a pillow and hope your housemates don't hear. Or maybe they should hear because this has got to be the luckiest day of your life and you'd flex it on their faces if they understood the gacha game hype. Going back to the screen, Jiyan is doing one of his idles, twirling around his spear. My god, he looked glorious. His whole appearance was both beautiful and imposing. He looked so cool, hot damn.
"I'll be relying on you from now on, general." You grin once more and spin your chair with a whoop.
You level him up as high as you can, using all the leveling materials available at the moment. He's capped out at 20 right now because you did just start playing and still haven't unlocked character ascension, but you're willing to grind more just to raise him. You even move him to the first spot in your team (sorry, Rover, you can take the next spot).
You head on over to training, to gather some weapon and leveling materials but also because you want to test him out in battle. Damn it all, those beta videos of him didn't disappoint. He was just as good, if not even better since you're the one playing him right now.
He was definitely fun to play with. Of course, all the characters are fun to play with, but Jiyan was twice as fun. Would it be bold to say it was like you were meant to play as him? Suddenly the game is easier again. But not because the enemies are easy to kill, more so you feel like you're able to move better. You seem to be able to time dodging and parrying a lot better, even knowing when to attack at the best moment. Clearly, it was a really good decision to pull for him.
When you've grinded enough - he's level 40 now and you've fully accepted you're in this game for the long run - you go to level up his 4-star broadblade and then stop. You've saved up enough astrite for another 10 pull, right? Maybe you still have some luck left from the Jiyan pull, so… maybe?
"What do you think, Jiyan? Do I go for it?" You laugh at the absurdity of your one sided conversation. "I think you deserve your main weapon."
To your surprise, you watch as he laughs once, shaking his head and looking away with a barely noticeable smile (it's hard to tell with your gadget's graphics, but you definitely heard him). Was… was that part of his idle animations? You make a split-second decision to check his profile. Uh, no? No, it wasn't? Where'd that come from??? Well, maybe it was a secret animation plugged in by the devs. Game devs did like adding a little secret every now and then, right?
Anyways, although indirectly, Jiyan just gave you his answer. You were pulling for his weapon. You mean, there's still like 20 days left for you to pull if you don't get it right away, so there's no harm in building pity right now. Right? Right. To the gacha you go.
Breathing out - maybe a small prayer to the gacha gods in your head - you click the 10 pull button on the limited-time weapon banner-
WAITWAITWAITWAIT WAS THAT FUCKING GOLD??? AGAIN??? THERE'S NO SHOT. THERE'S NO FUCKING SHOT THAT THIS IS-
You stare at the golden glowing weapon on your screen in disbelief. A second passes, and then another as you stare at the green and gold broadblade. Verdant Summit. In the flesh. Excitement follows soon after like a tidal wave. You're off your chair in the next second again, fist-pumping the air like no tomorrow. You don't even care if your housemates hear you jumping around this time.
"JIYAN, LOOK, WE ACTUALLY GOT YOUR WEAPON!" You think you hear someone knock at your walls but you could care less right now.
When you're seated and back to your screen, you immediately equip the blade to Jiyan and stare again. Fuck, he really did look cool. With the sword, he's even twice as cool. Okay, he was hot, you're not gonna sugarcoat it. He was both in equal measure. You try swinging the blade around and breathe out in awe.
"It looks like it was made for you," you laugh. Well, surely it was. The blade was designed for him from the moment it was created, but still. You hear his little laugh again, but the animation seems to be cut short when you accidentally slash. Whoops.
When the excitement dies down, exhaustion sets in. You look at the time. Damn, it was that late? You really played the game for a whole day? Woof.
But you think it was well worth it as you watch Jiyan with his weapon in action. You finish up battling with a few more enemies before leaning back on your chair, content. Silly as it may be, you wish your team goodnight before logging off for the day.
Jiyan waits until he can't hear your voice or feel the warmth that overtakes him whenever you use him before he moves. He groans as he stretches. You really did enjoy using him to explore Solaris 3, no doubt about that. Not that he was complaining.
Far from it, really.
"Cheater." Jiyan blinks once before turning around. Rover stands there, arms crossed with a frown set upon their face. Jiyan could tell there was no real bite to their expression or words, but he still found it rather funny.
"Are you talking to me, Rover?" Jiyan's voice is calm and collected, but he can feel the corner of his mouth tick upwards ever so slightly.
"You know what you did." Rover scoffs, still lacking actual bite. It was more like teasing, if anything. "You wanted to make them happy that much?"
"Is it not possible I just wanted to visit Jinzhou for a bit? Their goals and mine simply aligned at the moment and I used the opportunity." A lie, but not quite.
Yes, he did want to visit Jinzhou. Word had reached him of the new Rover who even the Magistrate had taken a keen interest to. He wanted to make sure they weren't anything dangerous, despite the prophecy. Jué knows the last thing they need is the Midnight Rangers at the Norfall Barriers and an ambush in the main city.
But the moment he arrived, things were very different. For one, the very Rover he was so wary of ended up working with him in a small team of three. The Rover was no normal person, either. Yes, Jiyan could tell that they were strong and would be able to get stronger at a rapid pace. But they also seemed too observant. How should he put it? It felt like they were seeing something else he couldn't. Or they were seeing everything differently.
And then he felt it for himself.
Your voice is warm but thunderous, and yet it was not painful for the ears. Loud with excitement he can't quite understand. You're excited… that you have him? You even said you would rely on him from now on. He could laugh at how easy you were to please. Something so simple and you were already so happy. Maybe it's simply your emotions leaking into his own soul, but he could feel the genuine joy that you were feeling. He prides himself for choosing to come home as soon as he could if only to share in your happiness. He wanted to understand whatever it is that makes you so excited. After so much bloodshed, your joy felt like a breath of fresh air he hadn't taken in so long.
As you use him to walk around the world and fight Tacet Discords, it felt like he was seeing the world for the first time again. Maybe this is what the Rover was seeing with their observant eyes. Jiyan felt like he was experiencing Solaris 3 for the first time once again. Whenever you gasped at the sights of high cliffs and the boundless sky, he may as well be sighing in amazement with you.
"Right… Took the opportunity. Sure." Rover raised an eyebrow. "And the broadblade?"
Jiyan shrugs. "I find that I work better with a familiar weapon." Another lie, but not quite.
He didn't mind using another weapon. His skills lay in his own sharpened abilities, not in whatever object he had on hand. He could manage fine with any other broadblade you gave him, and he trusted you to help him fight. You fumbled a little bit here and there, made him attack a little recklessly at times, but you were doing your best. Jiyan could count on you in battle.
However, when you asked him if he wanted his weapon, he stopped. Having his sword on hand would do him good, of course. As he told the Rover, he fights even better with Verdant Summit. But, there was something about you asking his opinion. He knows you cannot read his thoughts. And yet you asked. It felt rather nice… A connection between you both. A familiarity he did not expect but was definitely not unwelcome.
He couldn't help the laugh that escaped him. To his surprise, you actually hear him. He frowns at the short panic this causes (did you not want to hear from him after all?), but thankfully you move on from it quickly enough. You take his laugh as a good sign and decide to acquire his weapon.
When he saw the shooting stars alight the waters below, Jiyan pondered for a second. Surely, there won't be any harm in helping you a bit, right? He reaches down and touches one of the stars, immediately making it light a glowing golden light as it shoots to the sky. He feels your joy before he hears it and with it, his own chest is filled with warmth.
There's a silence that overtakes you when you see the weapon that makes Jiyan worried. Did… you not want his weapon after all? But that can't be right, you even asked him for his thoughts. Or did you sense that you received it without effort? Did you realize he helped you get it? Maybe he shouldn't have meddled with your abilities.
Before he can overthink and sink into a spiral of doubt, your screams of joy and the sound of you jumping around in pure happiness fill his ears. Jiyan breathes out in relief, another small smile making its way to his lips. He was worried for nothing. Maybe you were just shocked for a little bit. Did you think he would not help you get it? He knew you would, he just helped you receive it earlier than you would have. He may or may not have simply wished to hear your joyous laughter at the moment.
As you give him Verdant Summit, he tests its weight and familiarity in his hand and perform a couple of swings (maybe he wanted to show it off a bit for you, just a touch). You think it was made for him? Well surely it was, and yet the comment makes him laugh a little more. You've been making him a laugh for a while now.
You enjoy a few more moments with him, battling together. He enjoys them as well, if he was honest, as you spend the time praising him and being in awe. It was rather embarrassing if he was honest, but he appreciated it all the same. Before he knew it, time had flown in an instant. You bid him and the others goodnight before leaving, and he knows you leave with a smile on your lips.
"Uh-huh. Right. I definitely believe you." Rover laughs. "Don't think I didn't see you smile, General Jiyan."
Almost on instinct, Jiyan covers his mouth with a hand, looking away. It barely concealed his embarrassment. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Be careful the others don't catch you helping them too much." Baizhi suddenly speaks from the side. She was so quiet Jiyan almost forgot she was there. The Rover smiles teasingly, before they turn around with a small wave. Baizhi follows soon after with a nod. "Chixia's already complaining that they're showing you too much favoritism."
"I- yes, of course. Thank you for the advice, Baizhi." Jiyan clears his throat.
Was it that obvious? Most likely. Rover and Baizhi may have seen too much considering they've been traveling together for a while now, but if even the others were noticing his closeness to you then he was doing a poor job at hiding it. However, was there really a need to hide it? The others did not try hiding their favor for the warm voice they hear and who guides them. So, there was no need to hide it himself, was there?
He spins his newly obtained sword - an old companion, but he felt like he was seeing it for the first time all over again, with better memories attached to it - and smiles softly. Yes, there was no need to hide how he favored your connection to him. It wouldn't even be a bold claim for him to say he was happy that he had made the decision to come when you called for him.
Jiyan hopes you stay with him for a while longer, if only to see what you see, feel happiness the way you do. He'd like that a lot.

When Rover awoke on that new world, the first thing he'd seen was a heated glare.
Alright, maybe “glare” wasn't the right word. It was moreso wariness, or distrust. Narrowed eyes, hostile and defensive body language, and hands hovering above where he assumed was their weapons holster - it was obvious that to the locals, he was an unwelcomed guest.
He'd barely regained enough consciousness to comprehend the language - their words were twisted, alien, yet he could somehow still understand them - before he was barraged with an onslaught of interrogations: Who was he? Why was he here? What were his intentions? Why was he alone?
And of course, when faced with all of these questions, his recently wiped mind went blank - that tends to happen when you have amnesia. Unfortunately for him, that answer wasn't exactly satisfactory. It was painfully obvious from their expressions that no one believed him when he explained that he didn't remember anything, not even his own name.
The redhead was the most aggressive - Rover was sure she would've already started getting physical had her companion, a darker-haired woman dressed in blue, not kept her in line. While the others weren't exactly kind to him, they still remained civil… or at least, as civil as they were willing to be.
In the end, the third woman, this one with sharp eyes and presumably the medic of the group, managed to convince the other two that Rover was telling the truth after a brief examination. It was then, and only then that the interrogations stopped, and Rover could finally have some time to himself as the three women discussed what to do with him.
As the details of their conversation faded into the background (he heard a lot of fancy terms that he wasn't familiar with), Rover decided to take a look around.
He'd landed in the middle of a forest, which didn't strike him quite right - out of everything, the one thing he clearly remembered was being underwater. But as he surveyed his surroundings, only looming cliffs, thin trees and swaying grass greeted him.
He winced, his head throbbing suddenly. A stabbing sensation struck through his head like a bullet, and then there was warmth, spreading through his body like sunlight.
“..ey. Hey!”
Rover blinked. The redhead planted her hands on her hips, irritation evident from her scowl.
“We’ve decided what to do with you,” the woman in blue said softly, holding an arm in front of the redhead to calm her.
Rover tilted his head innocently, prompting her to continue.
“We'll take you to the city,” explained the medic. Her voice was just as frigid as her gaze. “There, the officials will examine and determine whether or not you're a threat.”
“I’m-” Rover started, but caught himself. “Okay.”
The medic nodded, then bent down on her knees. Noticing her outstretched hand, Rover realized she was offering to help him up.
He stumbled as she pulled him to his feet. His legs felt like jelly, pins and needles pricking at him as they slowly woke up. For a second, he'd thought he'd fall over.
But then the warmth came again, and this time, with a voice.
“Steady. Easy does it.”
Sudden strength surged into his legs, and he stabilized himself, the pins and needles fading away.
“There you go.”
He looked up as if expecting someone to be there, but predictably, all that met him was a vast blue sky.
“Are you looking for me?” He heard the voice laugh, a clear, bell-like sound. “Maybe do that later, you're making yourself look funny.”
With a start, he realized that the voice was right. The three women were giving him weird looks, and his hand was still intertwined with the medic’s.
Hastily, he yanked his hand away, a sheepish chuckle escaping him as he rubbed the back of his neck. The redhead scoffed.
“Yangyang, this guy’s got a screw loose or something…” she muttered to the woman dressed in blue. Yangyang sighed in agreement, turning on her heel and walking away.
“Bear with it for a bit, Chixia,” she replied. “We'll drop him off at the City Hall, and they'll take it from there.”
Chixia didn't look happy with that, but she relented nevertheless.
“Wow.”
Rover flinched as the voice spoke again, this time closer to his ear.
“They do not like you at all, do they?”
Obviously not, Rover thought incredulously, but can you blame them?
He'd noticed it a while ago - the three were clearly on edge. Something was going on on this planet, something bad. Having an unpredictable factor such as him probably wasn't helping.
“Good point.”
So you can hear my thoughts. Rover huffed as he pulled himself up a cliff, vines scratching at his arms. The route the locals had decided to take wasn't a kind one.
“Well, yeah. How else are we supposed to have our super-secret confidential shittalking sessions?”
Rover paused. What?
“Don't worry about it.”
No, what'd you say-
“I said don't worry about it. Now keep climbing, they're leaving you behind.”
Easy for you to say, Rover thought indignantly, but did as the voice said nevertheless. He quickly caught up to the group, the medic raising a brow as he fell into step beside her. Thankfully, she didn't say anything and only kept her gaze straight ahead.
“Hey, I'm not the one who's being marched to officials for an inspection. And I don't have a reputation I need to maintain.”
Rover hated to admit it, but the voice had a point.
What are you, anyway? He walked past a small pond filled with fish. His hands twitched with the urge to jump in and grab some, but his first impressions were already bad enough as is.
“I'm God, actually.”
Rover deadpanned, unimpressed.
“Jeez, tough crowd.” The voice shifted, moving from his right to his left ear. “But seriously though, I'm human, just like you.”
If you were, I'd be able to see you.
“Fair enough,” the voice mused. “But I really am human. I just… happened to wake up invisible and connected to you.”
Rover grunted as he vaulted over yet another cliff. Very convincing.
“Says you.” He could practically hear them rolling their eyes. “At least I remember what my name is.”
That one hurt more than Rover would've liked to admit.
“...Sorry.” Quieter now, almost meek. “That was out of line.”
Rover closed his eyes briefly, breathing in as subtly as he could before opening them again.
It's fine. You didn't say anything false.
“It was still insensitive.”
Rover sped up. It happens to the best of us.
The voice went quiet, leaving Rover to the slight howl of the wind and the sound of boots crunching against sand. But they hadn't left entirely, no - Rover could feel a presence to his left, subtle but impossible to ignore.
“So you don't remember your name, huh?” Chixia said suddenly.
“No,” Rover muttered.
“Guess that just means we'll have to give you one. Or I could just keep calling you ‘Weirdo’ in my head.”
Rover’s eye twitched. “Let's not.”
Chixia grinned back at him, but the smile didn't ease his nerves at all - on the contrary, it made them worse.
“Why not? I think it's pretty fitting.”
“Chixia,” Yangyang warned, which Rover was grateful for. Had he retaliated, things wouldn't have ended well for him.
Chixia shrugged, crossing her arms behind her head as she sauntered off.
“I must apologize for her.” Yangyang turned to him. To his surprise, she seemed genuine. “Chixia usually isn't that rude, it's just that, well…”
She trailed off, uncertain on how to continue. Rover shook his head.
“It's fine,” he assured. “I can tell that you're all anxious.”
Yangyang’s shoulders slumped. “Is it that obvious? But… yes, you're right. Life hasn't exactly been calm as of late, with Tacet Fields appearing left and right.”
“Tacet Fields?” Rover repeated, tilting his head.
“It's easier to demonstrate than to explain,” the medic cut in, stepping forward as the cliffs and trees opened up. Rover followed her gaze to a darkened field, corrupted by dark matter and with a star-shapped scar at the center.
Abyss-like creatures prowled the corrupted zone, covered in dark armor, scales, and/or fur. They spoke to one another in gargled gibberish with voices that sent chills down Rover's spine.
“Those are Tacet Discords,” Yangyang explained. “They’re born from the distorted frequencies that result from the Tacet Field.”
“Ew.”
Welcome back, Rover greeted, to which the voice didn't respond.
“They're ugly,” they commented instead, scrutinizing the Tacet Discords one by one. Rover silently agreed. “But there's a few pretty ones I can see, like that wolf.”
Rover stared at said wolf's sharp canines and ravenous glare. Pretty… isn't what I would call them, but suit yourself.
“There’s a whole swarm of them out there,” Chixia observed, breaking through their conversation. She stretched her arms as if preparing for battle. “Can't get to the city without getting through them first.”
“Hm…” Yangyang contemplated to herself, before looking up at Rover. “Say, uhm…”
She hesitated, not knowing what to call him.
“Rover.”
His mouth moved on its own as his voice mixed with the voice's. Yangyang blinked, startled.
“I… I thought you didn't remember your name.”
“I don't,” Rover spoke without meaning to, like a puppet on strings. “It just… came to mind.”
Yangyang didn't look convinced, but she let it go.
“Alright, then, Rover, do you know how to fight?”
The feeling of being puppeteered left him as the voice became separate once more.
“Yes,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady.
What the hell was that?
Yangyang smiled. “Good, because we'll need to clear that Tacet Field before reaching the city.”
He nodded, understanding the implications. “I'll do my best to fight alongside you.”
“I don't know what that was,” the voice replied, and sure enough, they too sounded unsure. “I just did what the system told me to.”
The system? Rover questioned, but received no answer.
Rover heard a pistol click behind him as Chixia readied herself. “Don't try anything funny,.”
“I won't.” Operating on instinct, Rover drew a blade of his own. Chixia chuckled.
“We'll see about that.”
One by one, the group jumped off the cliff, deploying a glider so as to land safely below. Rover was the last to go. As his feet skidded at the edge of the cliff, sending pebbles flying down, unease swirled in his gut.
“Hey,” the voice said gently. “Don't worry. I'll help you out.”
What… Rover furrowed his brows, frustrated at how little he knew. What are you?
“Like I said, I'm just another person who ended up stranded here. I have a feeling we're going to be stuck together for a while, so I suggest you get used to me.”
Then, Rover sighed, at least give me a name. You said you remembered yours.
The voice paused.
“[Name],” it finally said, the name foreign to Rover's ears. “That's my name.”
“[Name],” he murmured, feeling it roll off his tongue. “We should get going, the others are waiting. You said you'd help me, right?”
“Yep. Just jump off the cliff and extend your left hand up to glide.”
Rover paused. Aren't these called intrusive thoughts?
“Just do it.”
Taking a deep breath, Rover looked down at the jump before him nervously. Closing his eyes and mentally praying to whatever god was listening that he wouldn't end up a black puddle on the forest floor, he lept.
Mechanical wings unfolded above him in a series of clicks and whirrs, a handle extending down for him to grab onto like his life depended on it. Peeking open his eyes, he let out a sigh of relief, feeling a small breeze brush against his face.
“See?” Although not obvious, relief bled into [Name]’s words as Rover landed safely on his feet. “You can trust me.”
A small smile slipped onto Rover's face, the first since he'd woken up.
“I guess I can.”
The glider folded in on itself, replaced by his blade as he joined the others.
“Took you long enough,” Chixia commented, but for the first time, it wasn't with ill intent.
“Sorry,” Rover replied. “But I'm here now.”
“Enough chitchat,” Yangyang called up ahead. “They've noticed us.”
Sure enough, the Tacet Discords were turning towards them, snarls twisting where he assumed their mouths were. The corruption worsened, dark energy forming in black smoke.
“Let's see what you're made of, Rover,” said Chixia, expertly spinning her pistols. Yangyang had already drawn her sword, and Baizhi, the medic, had summoned a pearly dragon-like creature to fight alongside her. [Name] didn't say anything, but he could feel their energy beginning to seep into his muscles, ready to aid him in battle.
Rover pointed his blade towards the Tacet Discords.
“Let's go.”

SaWuWa Headcanon pt. 1 .ೃ࿔*:・
part 1; Entering as a new player.
apologies, i was trying to change the text color and a chunk got deleted.
Self Aware Wuthering Waves (WuWa)
I don't think SAGAU WuWa is the correct term since SAGAU means self aware genshin au. I think SAWuWaAu is too long, ick.
ᯓ★ For you, you had simply started your gaming journey in WuWa. You made your account, stressed over choosing which rover to play as and entered the world.
ᯓ★ Ah but it was a very different case for the inhabitants of WuWa. Ever since you created your account and first set foot albeit in the Rover's body, there was a sort of sound, a vibration or a frequency that could be heard all over the land, the seas and the skies. Something the inhabitants almost glossed over and the resonators find themselves straining their ears and using their gadgets/gourd to hear.
ᯓ★ It was muffled at first, barely audibly or translatable. Perhaps it was because you were still but a weak human? god? a monster? they have no title for you, yet.
ᯓ★ Of course over time as Rover got stronger, and your union level rose, the frequency they could hear was much clearer. It was a sort of frequency that seemed to come from your mood, your voice, and your area.
ᯓ★ Sometimes they could hear music or disgruntle sounds, and a word clicky noise (keyboard/mouse for laptop players). Sometimes they could hear foreign music, sometimes with rather.. colorful language.
ᯓ★ but sometimes they could hear you, your voice.. Mostly during the times you had something to say, to comment or complain-
"Shit, Rover no!"
or to compliment..
"Lord Scar is just *lip bites*"
ᯓ★ Your frequency is familiar yet strange all together for the sentinels of the world, your sound is familiar to a friend long ago, but again it was different.
This was the start of your journey with Wuthering Waves.

The Discovery
Tw/Cw: Using Male MC, mentions of sleep paralysis, kind of short
Tumblr media
Rover always knew there was someone watching him.
He figured it out when he felt his body move without his control. His suspicions were confirmed when, while he was trying to figure out what this controlling force was, was suddenly teleported to a rock in the middle of no where.
His head was forced to turn and stare in a random direction, where he saw you for the first time. You weren't a person, just a floating ball of light. But he could hear you...
He could hear your mumbles of how long something was taking to load, and how aggravated you were about forgetting a password.
Finally, he heard your little squeal, and his hand was forced to raise in your direction.
He was shocked when the light came closer and closer to his hand, before entering his body, and he was teleported back to where he was before. This time, he wasn't in control again.
When he felt your presence leave his body, he quickly informed Baizhi of what the hell had just happened.
Rumors spread like wildfire. More and more people began to experience your presence taking control of their body.
It started with the people that Rover had come in contact with when he first woke up. Then, more people that he had interacted with began seeing the little light in their peripheral vision.
A news article did an interview with Rover, and published the following in a newspaper:
Reporter: "What is it like to be controlled by this strange light?"
Rover: "It's hard to describe. It's almost like you're aware of what you're doing, and what's going on around you, but you have no control over your body."
Reporter: "Could it be described as a sort of sleep paralysis?"
Rover: "Precisely."
Reporter: "Do you see the light when you're in this state?"
Rover: "Yes. I see it in my peripheral vision. It's like the light is controlling me in a sort of third-person perspective."
Reporter: "Do you think this light has any bad intentions?"
Rover: "No, I don't. One thing I've noticed is that they're always helping me, whether it helping me achieve some big goal, or just collecting flowers."
Reporter: "Can the light speak?"
Rover laughs.
Rover: Of course. I hear it all the time. Especially whenever I meet someone new.
Reporter: "Are they good or bad things?"
Rover: "...you don't want to know."

SAUwu-wa
just my contribution for the self aware delulu peopelk.
This is my first time doing this,
kinda nerbus👉👈
A faint sound of something rings through Rovers ears...
What is that sound..? Jingle of bells?... Of keys?
Questions after questions filled our dear Rovers head until they woke up.
(I forgot wtf happened in the prologue much🥰)
Rover sometimes felt disconnected in their surroundings leading to them not remembering what happened in the past couple hours but they persevere
After they "settled" into their surroundings, they can still hear faint noises that aren't supposed to be there
Such noises are: Wind chimes, Water droplets, Ruffling of what seems to be sheets, Heart thumping, Mechanical taps, Lights flickering and some more
Rover thought that the sounds would fade away after a couple more days but...
It grew more loud.
Now the noises includes: Laughter, Screeching, Owl hoo? and words that the rover still can't understand.
Its bothering them, but they noticed that every time these sounds grow louder they too grow in strength.
So they endured the sometimes loud screams screeching in their ears
But today they heard someone called their name but there's no one around and the voice is different than Yangyang and Chixia.
"Rover..ro...r....m...com...ing..over....o..ver" (If you get my reference then good jobs)
Rover is ?
Then they heard it again more clearly than before
"There's a chest over there.."
!?
Rover suddenly felt their body moved without their control.
Rover now understands why sometimes they feel disconnected in their body as they "faint"
Liike it? Yes yes its very nice! Thanky ou!
Im dealing with my own devils rn sorry

Hello there! May I request a self-aware WuWa where the player tends to make random noises whenever the character is in low health and is trying their best to keep them alive?
As for characters, Rover and any two other people of your choice.
That's all!
Ooo, this interesting! Coming right up, Anon! I'll just do two characters for your request (Rover is one of them). Hope you enjoy! :)
SAWUWA: Reader Being Grinding Hard FR
(Warning: Might be OOC!)
Rover
First time Rover heard you do it, you were grinding for echoes. It just so happened that Rover was a bit under-levelled at the time and you didn't have the sufficient materials to level them up, so you had to do what you had to do.
Improvisation was not on your side today. You almost killed Rover thirty times now. Frowning, you're putting on your gaming cap. To Rover? They find the grunts little unhappy noises you make a little adorable, aside from the fact they're always close to death whenever they happen (at least you take care of them, right?)
"Phew...That was close..." Rover chuckles as you head offline. "But the new grunt this time was new."
Rover supports your small habit 100%—Bc in turn that just proves you're trying to keep them alive :D
Aalto
Bro finds your habit funny but endearing. Similar to Rover, he understands whenever this happens, your concentration on keeping Aalto alive spikes over 100%. He appreciates it, because he does not want to be the one to skim all the details in front of Encore (her puppy eyes can kill him too)
Really, though, he finds it hilarious. One aggressive blow Aalto takes equals a very low and unhappy growl coming out of your throat, almost like you could scare the enemy away.
"Pft...Awh, how I wish I could've recorded the entire thing...For work purposes, obviously." To the Black Shores, you may be the key to helping eliminate the Lament and the Waveworn Phenomenon permanently.
Yes, Aalto is using this as an excuse to examine you further—it's technically a win-win, because the Black Shores get the info they want, and he gets his short-lived entertainment in a life-death situation. All is good (he says that you panic over keeping the dude alive)!

Ghost Rebel Side Notes: This isn't my best work tbh. My motivation for Wuwa has been decreasing and I'm not entirely sure why. I skipped Changli's companion quest, and I still haven't finished Xiangli Yao & Zhezhi's Companion Quests.
That aside, my motivation has really decreased this month. I've deleted most of the things in my mailbox, so there are high chances that you will have to resend your request. Apologies for that! I'll try to get on a productivity grind 🙏

(minor and brief spoilers of the protagonist if you haven’t started the game at all but plan to)
[very self-insert about wuthering waves. kinda combined with genshin, of course (its my main bitch)]
so i have thoughts about wuthering waves…
self aware thoughts…
——————————————————————————
i like the game so far!
at this time, ive been judging the controls, story, characters, and combat of wuwa and compare it genshin
there are things i like, and things i feel meh about (it hasnt been out for even a week yet so im cool with it for now)
however, i have been more raised eyebrow towards the characters and controls of the game. since they are the key things that make me stay besides a cool story
ive mainly noticed there are some quality of life features they miss compared to genshin. but also some that they have that genshin doesnt
i chant praises for the features and gameplay they have genshin doesnt. but get pretty frustrated about what they dont have
i always try to reason that its basically an infant at the moment, but gamer rage gets the best of me frequently
so (like with genshin sometimes), i roar my frustrations at my screen
“ugh, genshin has this! why dont you?”
“oh my god, you are so slow.”
“yeah, yeah, ive seen this all before. when do things get interesting?”
sighing, huffing, and palming my face in irritation
and they hear this, and are conflicted
but similarly to traveler in the beginning, i think rover would be the only one to be self aware at this point. the others still have to gain it
so besides their memory lost, theyre also dealing with an unknown and higher being that controls them. with no way to prevent it, or predict when the next time they do will happen
they are conflicted further when they realize theyre helping them get stronger and achieve the same goal as them
what does this mean? who is this? and why are they helping them if they sound like they hate them so much?
——————————————————————————
note: rushed. and i do actually like this game btw lmao. i just needed to get a part of my frustrations off my chest. overall, this game has a lot of potential i think! the graphics are amazing, and the combat is very interesting (i love combat so much)
i may also write for wuthering waves. if i feel strongly enough about it
since ive been into sagau for almost as long as ive been into canon genshin. yet i only write now ( ̄▽ ̄;)

I got a class in a moment but I just wanted to share some Self Aware!Wuthering Waves thoughts:
I think the Rover would see the player as some kind of parental figure as the story goes on. You've been with them at the beginning of their journey, dutifully guiding their sword and bringing their powers to unimaginable heights. It also helps that your presence acts as some kind of security blanket for the Rover, calming them down after some high stakes events.
As for the others, they see you as some kind of Anti-Threnodian! Though the Resonators are unable to see you, they definitely feel your presence whenever the Rover's around, inciting warm and tender feelings. Researchers at the Huaxu Academy have tentatively dubbed you as the Embossing Hymm, with Mortefi leading the ongoing study of your abilities.
As for what happens when you take control of Resonators, I think it could go a few ways. The first would be classic possession, where you take control of their body. Another possibility, one I like the most, is that you leave a "stain" on their Rabelle's Curve. While it doesn't seem to meaningfully affect the pattern, it is definitely an indicator that the Resonator had been marked by the player, with a majority being purple while a rare few are gold. Researchers are still unsure of what these stains could possibly mean, but some have a few guesses. Some believe that there's no significance to the colors, while others argue that the colors symbolize the potential a resonator has yet to unlock.
Either way, the people in Huanglong are eager to see what changes you bring to this world. (The Fractsidus are foaming at the mouth. You should be helping them, not Huanglong!)

Self Aware Wuthering Waves Ideas:
Feel free to use them. Just tell me if you do (so I can read your work). This will be a list of random idea bits. Spoilers ahead.
The creator of the world (you) is called either the Metronome [providing the backbone of existence by 'keeping time' with your metaphysical heartbeat in the same way as the device does in music] or the First Howl [the birth of existence in deafening sound, with the resonance of your voice shattering unreality to make everything].
You loved music in your first life, and sound-based powers were the first thing you'd unlocked with godly energy. You took a mortal body to walk among your creations and know them.
Your first body died during a disastrously failed peacetalk between two old-world nations, and the first Tacet Field grew from your blood. It's believed that the TDs are the world's rage at humankind for their actions manifested.
The Threnodians and Sentinels are made from your old body, though the parts have been long since warped by time and collected resonance.
The Threnodians have a core sound, a resonation of your dying moments. A gurgle, a gasp. Choking. Blood dripping. The strongest Threnodian is made from your final exhale of breath, and the strongest Sentinel is made from your final inhale of breath.
The reason you can collect so many TD echoes in the game is because it's you who is helping the Rover. They state it's a rare occurrence to get an echo normally in one of the quests - versus the Rover, who can get entire groups of them in a single fight if they're lucky.
Religious practices involving atonement for the guilt of humanity [your killers] are common, and in the most severe sects, some will go so far as to flagellate themselves or have a religious leader do it monthly.
TDs don't attack religious buildings constructed in your honor. They just take them over for themselves, half-understanding the significance and also liking the acoustics of the rooms.
Live music is always to be played at one of your temples. Since very little of the music you like is remembered this many years after your death, they're left to choose their own playlists.
In places without instruments, people use what they can to make noise, and there's a longstanding tradition of oral storytelling in the form of songs in places where people live.
It's believed that there's a sacred note or series of notes that you love dearly, based on a mistranslation of an old-world religious book from some abandoned religion.
The Rover and friends shouldn't be able to survive half the shit they do - you're giving them and others in the main story plot armor in the form of a nearly imperceptible sound that throws off aim and weakens the strength in muscles.
Full resurrection isn't possible for anyone else, so when you're reviving someone mid-fight, it's the equivalent of using smelling salts to wake someone up from a decapitation, but somehow it works.
Your reappearance in the world was first thought to be the release of some ancient Threnodian that was older than any known ones, or perhaps even the being that embodies the end of reality. Nah, s'just you, much to the relief and joy of humanity.
Sure, your powers are... dwindled, but you did un-mortis. That's fucking crazy.
Your avatar, the Rover, kicking Dreamless' ass and metaphorically skullfucking Ovathrax's attempted rematch was basically seen as a sign that you've mostly forgiven humanity for their mistake.
It's impossible for you to have a doppelganger, as the amount of resonance that's required to sustain your physical form (and is emanated by you) would reduce other people to a fucking pulp or shake their organs into mist inside their torsos.
You have no voice of your own when you go to Sol-3. You're like a TD, in the way that the only sounds you can make are sounds that you've heard and collected.
It's the one thing that's forever lost to you, and for weeks after your arrival, you sound like an EDM mashup as you try to speak to people but don't realize what you're saying is total nonsense and scrambled noises.
Early on, you can say intelligible things with enough effort, but it takes all your focus to string together even a handful of words. Sign language is a good friend to you in the early days, if you know it, and if you don't, they're happy to teach you.
People are deeply unsettled by your manner of speaking because sometimes you laugh, but it sounds like someone's spine breaking in multiple places, or you yawn, and it sounds like someone in a car crash.
You don't have any echoes when in the world. The TDs just want to hang out with you anyway.
Eventually, Outcasts find oldworld tech full of machined voices, and now you sound like Miku. Or like Microsoft Sam. Or multiple of them at once, making you seem to talk the way the Master from the original Fallout talks.

SaWuWa Headcanon pt. 2 .ೃ࿔*:・
Tumblr media
scar-centric headcanon!
(mostly for the readers who are simping or genuinely like his characters)
warning: since i posted this in the first patch, he might seem ooc in the future.
ᯓ★ in headcanon pt#1 in this series, there's a short line where you practically simp for him, this continues on here- plus im biased for him at the moment ehehehehhe
ᯓ★ So they can hear you now, through your frequency, your voice is a bit garbled still but it's understandable. So it was very awkward and a bit annoying for scar when he first made his grand entrance to the rover!
"Guess you won't need need my self introduction-"
and you're probably like "oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!"
and he nearly messed up shuffling his deck of cards when you squeal and dote over him.
"it's scar!" (a line for those who were already aware of his existence through leaks and being updated in the fandom)
"he's so attractive!" you'd dote on his hair, his scars, and his voice.
"what the fuck-?" he looks at Rover who looks dead inside as you continued to gush.
ᯓ★ and again, he's bothered how chatty you are when he fights.
ᯓ★ butttt he gets used to it, and plus the compliments and the doting? he couldn't really complain.
he basically ate those shit up!
ᯓ★ and then in the future he gets so smugged about it, he's sure he is one of your favorites.
ᯓ★ but its a dang shame your frequency is attached to the rover, and he could only hear it clearly when he's nearby.
ᯓ★ Your affection towards him simply proves he was just that charismatic to get a disembodied voice to like him!
ᯓ★ He'll take your positive opinions of him as a sign that his and his group's plan is totally right! and he becomes even more confident!
ᯓ★ He'll probably be more interested and stalky with the rover when scar realizes that the frequency was strongest when he is near the rover!
ᯓ★ its a dang shame your frequency is attached to the rover, and he could only hear it clearly when he's nearby. it's even more a shame when Rover rejects to join him/them.
ᯓ★ So yeah, Rover kinda wishes you were physically there, with your own body ofc, to get that predator off their back!
ᯓ★ speaking of Rover, Scar probably uses the fact that you're so smitten with him to try and coax the Rover to join him.
"don't you want to make them happy?" Scar asked with a smile.
But Rover immediately shuts down that idea, "I want them to shut up about you honestly."

i don't really mind what character you use but if you are comfortable with it could you add a one sided crush the reader has on the rover (female) and jinhsi also I'm not sure how you feel about giving kids trauma so sorry if it makes you uncomfortable but can you make the reader come from a bad family or had something really horrific happen in front of them {like a house fire or someone they like getting hurt} leading them to being overly protective of the playable characters
-from a certain witch from a far off land
Alr I'll do Jinhsi and Rover...However. No romance—as your original request was a kid/minor Reader. Ik there's nothing wrong with teen romance, but my rules have stated: all children are strictly platonic.
(PS - Anon ur name is so long 😭 how can I remember this glorious title?)
Teen!Reader, the...OTHER Sentinel of Jinzhou
You get the gist of it—you were minding your own business, enjoying the content of a very cool game...And boom, magical transfer into the game. You're freaking out, and next thing you know...
Welcome, you're god now. Rejoice in your own presence.
Did I mention that you've also bumped into two very special people yet? No? Too late, I just did :)
(Warning: Might be OOC!)
Rover
The first time Rover met you, Rover felt 1000 times older. Like, to Jue, the draconic Sentinel of Jinzhou, they was the Arbiter General that practically helped establish the civilization. With you in the picture...and your physique...
Yes, you make them feel like a very ancient elder. Someone get this Rover a walking chair or a normal sitting chair. Maybe even a doctor, they might pass away from heart failure.
All jokes aside, Rover really gets not wanting to be special. Alright, this person's been there—everyone around them were hot on their heels the moment they opened their eyes, and that's not even mentioning the Black Shores, Jinzhou's government, the Fractsidus...
"No worries, [Y/N]. I won't tell a soul unless you're ready to tell others first." They keep your secret of being the other Sentinel of Jinzhou. Did I mention that their warm smile also gives them bonus points? They make you feel protected, and they quite literally will protect you should the situation present itself dangerous.
Also, if you want to talk to Jue but need moral support, look no further. Just ask Rover. They did it once, they'll do it again.
All in all? 10/10, this Rover ain't gonna be snitching you out to the city over their dead body.
Jinhsi
The first time she met you and realized you were the other Sentinel of Jinzhou, she was evidently shocked. You were barely an adult—you had both the mentality and the physique of a teenager! You were almost like her, in a sense, and little to nothing at all like Jue...except for maybe the power you wield.
She isn't exactly sure what to do at the beginning. She wants to bring you to the City Hall, but you were only a teenager, both in mind and heart. She didn't want to restrict you to responsibilities you barely even knew of yourself. In a case, you were almost like Rover in that way—maybe you forgot your memories of your past as a Sentinel. Or maybe you were reborn as a human Sentinel.
Regardless of the many possibilities of what to do to help you, Jinhsi's first step never came anywhere near to revealing to all of Jinzhou of the whereabouts of their other Sentinel, supposedly lost to time. You needed time to get used to everything, and she can provide that time. After all, nobody knew you were back (yet).
"Trust me, Sentinel [Y/N], I will ensure your safety as much as I possibly can. You are safe in Jinzhou." Jinhsi smiles a reassuring smile. "The people of Jinzhou will always welcome newcomers with open arms, regardless of their upbringing. We will continue to uphold our traditions, for this is something we, as a nation, are proud to continue."
Safe to say, you'll be in good hands. Such a shame though you'll have to be the one to smack Jinhsi around a few times to make sure she doesn't overwork herself. Just because she's supposedly an adult doesn't mean it's okay, okay? (Team up with Sanhua, and you'll probably win)
No matter what you choose (leave or stay) to do in Jinzhou, Jinhsi will make sure you are safe and free from your supposed bonds of being their Sentinel. After all, you do want to experience life at its finest, right?
Tumblr media
