coming out as a passive jopper hater bc the insane level of capitalist pandering they did with s3 (with ERICA who is like. one of the worst, stereotyped portrayals of a black girl ive ever seen, bless her heart) was truly crazy. combine that with the copaganda and the general attitude of hopper in s3 which was played off as 'awkward loser guy doesnt know what to do with Feelings more at 8' was a bit .... Eh :/ to me. because it is so obviously a fictional character and show but like. disliking hopper/jopper bc of the ideals st is perpetuating and the fact that they arent compatible at All in s3 (to me, atleast) is valid. some ppl might just think that jopper is unhealthy and/or 'overrated'. because they do sort of pay a disproportionate amount of attention to jopper, compared to the other canon romantic ships (afaik, bc of the screen time counter) and that can be Weird, esp with the... how should i say this? balancer/savior role hopper takes in the relationship (we constantly see him placating joyce, sometimes even being slightly patronizing, and also they place a lot of importance on him saving joyce from a lot of stuff, which is cool and sick if it wasnt for the fact that it directly correlates with him being a cop, yk). and the general power imbalance bc he's a Cop and abuses his position of power constantly, and that is exactly Why anything that joyce does is seen as a #insane girlboss category 5 woman moment because she simply has the short stick in the power race and when she does manage to make an impact DESPITE her economic/social/'general uselessness in say in Major decision-making when it comes to authorities' shortcomings it is seen as an amazing win. hopper on his own is extremely fleshed out as well, because we get to see his arc play out with his relationships with his daughter and ex-wife and el and re-learning how to be a parent and how to not let love allude him, and that is lovely! it's so great to see the adults in the show being focused on! but joyce is absolutely disregarded and underdeveloped as a character of her own right outside of her relationships with hopper or her kids. we see that she is determined and a force to be reckoned with and that she cares very deeply for the people she loves and would go to insane lengths for them but all that doesn't Mean anything, because we never see a backstory for her. we never figure out who she is without her family or hopper, or what her motives and aspirations and emotional shortcomings and stumbles and mistakes are. for a character to be fully fleshed out, they need to be an interesting, refreshing and palatable character On Their Own without their relationships with other characters, and we just don't see that with joyce. like u have Thee winona ryder on ur show, and u forsake developing her character in favor of developing hopper's character with /not the best taste/ and causing her to be a blank slate of a mother, lover, woman and friend, but not a PERSON. all she's been reduced to is a Mother and Hopper's Girlfriend, and honestly, that's the worst decision they could've made in relation to her and her relationship with hopper.

anyway, all this to say; these are my thoughts on the matter, but i'm definitely not hating on people who enjoy jopper passively and DEFINITELY not any by/ler (the most predominant fandom im part of in the parent fandom of st) who enjoys them as a ship with their own dynamic separate from canon. because the by/ler fandom is NOT a monolith and nobody is obligated to agree with me or change their opinion if it doesn't align with mine or be forced to look at my opinion and feel bad for shipping anything. im not going to act Holier Than Thou for expressing my opinion and u should definitely continue shipping jopper if it makes u happy! as long everybody recognizes the copaganda and capitalist mindset grind propaganda shit in st (which is Pretty Obvious) and respects that while shipping what they want, i have no problem with it. all that is to say; peace and fucking love. can we (the by/ler fandom) stop fighting abt jopper we all have our own opinions this is bc we are Not a hivemind or a monolith and not obligated to have the same opinions relating to all aspects of st just because we happen to ship one thing. i am a hater and a lover

i think a lot of people see joyce as this bright, sunshinesque character, which she is very comforting and sweet and i could go on for days about it, but it’s a shame that the show has made her into that after the potential joyce and winona had in season 1 because i think at her core and how she should be conveyed and recognized is as a little.... haunting. haunted.

she’s a single mother whose ex husband abused her and did even after their relationship was over. then her son goes missing because of a monster that no one believes her about until the end. then they continue to not believe her for three seasons after that. i could write forever about the changes i would make to her character after what we got in season 3.

the duffers have turned her into an attractive, digestible love interest with an out of character disinterest in her kids and good mental health when it’s the opposite. by season 4, joyce would be obsessively clingy to her children and her mental health would be worse than it was in season 2. she shouldn’t be this butt-of-the-joke, laughable, cool and collected mother. joyce can be comforting and warm in other ways. the way she struggles with her mental health in season one is comforting. her episodes and inability to explain it to others and needs for comfort even if it isn’t healthy (reaching out to lonnie) is comforting. the way she tries to still be there for jonathan and rebuild their relationship and she tries so hard to be better even if she falls short is warm and good. she’s trying and beginning to put in the work but we never see where that gets her. we never see the efforts she puts in because she just drops the younger kids with jonathan in season 4 and leaves the state which is completely erasing any progress joyce had made and not even acknowledging it.

*i’m not saying i want joyce to suffer or she can’t be happy, i’m saying that the duffers don’t know how to give women good storylines and have given joyce a poorly written plot where her getting better doesn’t make sense.

part of the uncomfortable shift from season 2 to 3 is that most of characters, especially joyce, become so off brand and out of character (aka the jokey, sunshinesque outline) that it’s hard to see where their storyline could go. for joyce, her storyline outside of hopper is nonexistent. the way she acts towards her kids isn’t how the previous seasons had set her up. and hopper treats her like lonnie in season 3 - making it even more difficult to watch. season 4 is… more of that but intensified and shown in rose colored glasses because j*pp*r has been hyped up for so long. they should’ve continued the season 1 dark and unstable vibe they had because it could bring so much more to any character’s story but especially joyce’s.

joyce byers had so much going for her and it’s ruined and i will never forgive the duffers.

I have an idea: Steve and the Reader at a wedding (someone in their friend group got married) and Reader catches the bouquet while Steve catches the garter.

I’m sorry it’s taken me forever to get this one up! But I was thinking long and hard about who I wanted to get married and I hope you don’t mind, but I really wanted it to be a Jopper wedding. Like I just want them and all the party to be there and then Steve and the reader just get teased and it just be a good time 🥺

“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you, husband and wife.”

The entire wedding procession—guests included, hooted and hollered, cheering for the newly wed couple.

Your friends, Joyce and Hopper had finally got married.

You’d sat in your seat in the crowd, dressed in your best summer-y, flowing, sun dress, watching with a big smile on your face.

Your boyfriend, Steve, had been one of Hopper’s groomsmen and he looked stunning in his dark suit, boutonnière pinned on his lapel.

You cheered just as loud as everyone else, clapping hard. You were extremely happy for your friends, them being parental-like figures in your life. It truly was like seeing your mom and dad happy.

They walked back down the aisle and Hopper raised their joined hands, cheering with everyone else.

“Now, who’s ready to party?” he hollered.

The reception was held in the backyard just feet away from where the ceremony had been set up.

There was room for a dance floor, the music being provided by a boom box set on a table. There was the beautiful wedding cake and other refreshments for everyone to snack on during the reception.

“You looked very handsome,” you said, smiling up at Steve, straightening his bow tie.

“Don’t get used to seeing me like this, I don’t do it for just anyone,” he teased.

“I know,” you smiled, “But you still looked great standing up there, all proud.”

You patted his chest, leaning up to peck his lips.

“Well, I’m also lucky enough to have the prettiest date,” he smiled, wrapping an arm around you.

“Stop,” you chuckled, “But thank you.”

“Just telling the truth, baby.”

He dropped a kiss on your forehead.

“Shall we dance?” he asked, offering his hand.

“I think we shall.”

The cake was absolutely delicious. You might’ve gone back for seconds—or thirds. Not that the newly married couple would’ve cared.

They were lost in their own world of newly married bliss. It put a smile on your face, watching them be so incredibly happy.

When it came time for Joyce to throw her bouquet, your friends all pulled you over to join and you laughed, obliging them.

With her back turned, she gave a hard toss, throwing the bundle of flowers in the air. Somehow, you don’t know quite how, they landed in your grasp.

Your friends cheered, laughing at your shocked face.

“I’m not sure who looks more shocked, Y/N or Steve,” Max laughed.

You turned and your boyfriend was laughing, shaking his head, a huge smile on his face.

Things got even more ironic—yet humorous—when it was the men’s turn to catch the garter.

“Oh come on, do I have to?” Steve complained.

“Yes, I had to participate in the bouquet toss, so you can do this,” you chuckled, pushing him playfully towards the gathered males.

Hopper pulled the garter gently off Joyce’s leg, twirling it around a finger as he turned his back to the fellas.

“It better be anyone but you to catch it, Mike!” he hollered, sending everyone into a hearty round of laughter.

The garment went flying and whether on accident or on purpose, Steve caught it effortlessly. You buried your face in your hands, face flaming at the even wilder cheers when everyone noticed who’d caught it.

“Party next year at Steve and Y/N’s wedding!” Dustin hollered.

Steve just smirked your way and it was your turn to smile and shake your head, exasperated.

As tradition would say, it seems like the universe had picked you two to get married next.

“So, when’s the wedding?” Mike teased, throwing an arm around both of your shoulders, later.

“We’ll need to know well in advance, cause we better be a part of it,” Lucas said, coming up.

“I mean you’ve got enough of us for groomsmen,” Will added, joining the group.

“And bridesmaids,” Max grinned, appearing.

“We’d love to be in your wedding,” El smiled.

“See? It works out perfectly,” Dustin beamed, looking at his friends.

“Except for one thing, guys,” you chuckled, amused at their eagerness.

“We aren’t getting married,” Steve said, brow cocked in your shared amusement.

“Not yet, you aren’t,” El laughed, the others agreeing.

They left, their laughter and voices fading.

“Hopefully soon though!” Mike called.

It was only later when you had a moment to yourselves during the rare slow song that had came on, that you had a chance to tease him.

Your arms were loose around his neck, his around your waist as you swayed gently to the song.

“So apparently we’re getting married now, huh?”

The teasing smirk on your lips made him chuckle.

“We still got plenty of time for that, honey.”

“True. But maybe one day,” you smiled wistfully.

“I’d love nothing more than to marry you one day, that I know for sure,” Steve smiled gently down at you.

“Why, Steve Harrington, are you proposing to me?” your teasing tone, made his grin widen once again.

“Oh, believe me, Y/N. You’ll know when I propose to you.”

Your smile was bright as you brought your lips to his, kissing him gently.

“Just so we’re clear,” you whispered, head laying against his chest as you continued to move gently to the soft music playing, “I’d love to marry you one day, too.”

I love Joyce more than I love Jopper but I still like this ship. We would have complained if she’d stayed the anxious mom for 4 seasons, it’s good they also developed her sentimental life for 3 seasons with Bob and then Hopper. Hopper is just as messy as her, they make a good and fun ship.

personally i would not be complaining if they kept joyce as the anxious, helicopter mom because it would be in character, unlike the stale underdeveloped character they’ve made her into.

i think hopper is messy in a different way than joyce and while sure, they could be fun and good, they aren’t and never will be to me. hopper treated joyce like shit in season 3 and i want to see that acknowledged. and yeah i know ‘russia, no time’ whatever but literally anything could’ve been better.

her sentimental life can be developed outside of her romantic relations. her and jonathan have a very overdue conversation to have and arguably so do her and will. in my opinion, those conversations should be coming first instead of her yet again leaving the kids with jonathan.

they have ruined her character and made her a digestible love interest instead of expanding more on her relationships with her sons and el. her character in season 1 is shockingly different from season 4 and she has become so wrapped up in hopper’s plot line that she ceases to have her own. there is so much room to explore her mental health as well. but that’s a whole different conversation.

Ough you guysssss. Okay so I watched this being written, and I got it in bits and pieces slowly over the course of four(? maybe five) hours. It was so fucking intenseeeeeeee. This fic is really well written, and it deals with one of my favorite headcanons, and I really like that it didn't pull the usual route of 'Eddie is the only one who never calls him stupid'. I love that sm but like this is so much more realistic? These kinds of miscommunications happen allllllll the time, and we do things and say things we don't mean, and I just yeah everyone should read this one!!!!!

My Thoughts

This one is really really good. It's canon to season four ending, and I didn't even have time to doubt, because this El is so good. This is an El who is past the traumatic events, but still impacted by them. She feels older but still El? I love it. All of the characters are super realistic, amazing jopper, WONDERTWINS, it's all jsut really well written, and it floooooows god does this flow. It is awesome

Summary:

So, when Vickie and Robin set Eddie up on a blind date with Vickie’s cousin, Steve figures he feels weird about it because he’s the only one without a date.But an annoying little voice starts telling him maybe there’s more to it than that. He just has to figure out what it is.

My Thoughts:

This one is so fricken sweet!! I love the way Vickie is characterized in this one, we don't see her a lot (except for people saying her and Robin didn't work) but this person took the time to think about it. There's also a good dollop of QPR stobin which I always love, and a badass little granny for Steve, but the main thing here is the awesome Steddie! It's really well written, you an see them doing this complicated little dance around each other and the ending is so so sweet. It's also really funny I laughed at least three times

My thoughts:

I always wanna try to be honest with my thoughts here- I did not think I was going to like this story. The way it was formatted isn't something I'm used to and it threw me off, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did! It's really funny, and I love the little references thrown in everywhere. You know when you can feel an author probably worked harder on something then they initially planned, and the result is fucking awesome? Yeah that's this fic. It's super cute, it's told in this really unique kind of outsider perspective, and I so so enjoyed it.

Summary:

His eyes fly up, and, sure enough, there hangs one of the many sprigs hung all around the apartment. Small and inconspicuous, but unmistakable. That ridiculous little plant has no idea that it’s just turned Steve’s entire world on its axis. Across from him, Eddie’s eyes are trained up too, big and round and wide where they stick on the mistletoe. His lips are parted in surprise, and Steve can’t help but stare and think am I going to kiss those now? When Eddie finally tears his gaze from the plant and lets it flicker down to Steve, a pretty pink dusting blooms across the bridge of his nose and spreads into the apples of his cheeks when he finds Steve already looking back. Steve spares the mistletoe one last quick peek before he takes a deep breath and steels himself. This is it. He sticks his hands on his hips, aiming for casual, and asks, “What do you say, Munson?” Or, Steve makes a promise, Robin likes to meddle, and the spirit of Christmas strikes (out) again. And again. And again. (Until it doesn’t.)

My Thoughts:

Okay I'm going to be frank I may be biased bc I betad this fic, except I'm not because it's so goddman spectacular. I'll start with how funny it is. I reread it today to have it fresh in my mind, and it's hilarious. Secondly the reveal and the moment where Steve thinks Eddie doesn't want him is so quietly heartbreaking, but perfectly written. Characterization is awesome, I watched every iteration of this as it grew and grew into something absolutely magnificent, and I'm so lucky to have gotten to beta for it!!
