seriously, though. i work in higher education, and part of my job is students sending me transcripts. you'd think the ones who have the least idea how to actually do that would be the older ones, and while sure, they definitely struggle with it, i see it most with the younger students. the teens to early 20s crowd.
very, astonishingly often, they don't know how to work with .pdf documents. i get garbage phone screenshots, sometimes inserted into an excel or word file for who knows what reason, but most often it's just a raw .jpg or other image file.
they definitely either don't know how to use a scanner, don't have access to one, or don't even know where they might go for that (staples and other office supply stores sometimes still have these services, but public libraries always have your back, kids.) so when they have a paper transcript and need to send me a copy electronically, it's just terrible photos at bad angles full of thumbs and text-obscuring shadows.
mind bogglingly frequently, i get cell phone photos of computer screens. they don't know how to take a screenshot on a computer. they don't know the function of the Print Screen button on the keyboard. they don't know how to right click a web page, hit "print", and choose "save as PDF" to produce a full and unbroken capture of the entirety of a webpage.
sometimes they'll just copy the text of a transcript and paste it right into the message of an email. that's if they figure out the difference between the body text portion of the email and the subject line, because quite frankly they often don't.
these are people who in most cases have done at least some college work already, but they have absolutely no clue how to utilize the attachment function in an email, and for some reason they don't consider they could google very quickly for instructions or even videos.
i am not taking a shit on gen z/gen alpha here, i'm really not.
what i am is aghast that they've been so massively failed on so many levels. the education system assumed they were "native" to technology and needed to be taught nothing. their parents assumed the same, or assumed the schools would teach them, or don't know how themselves and are too intimidated to figure it out and teach their kids these skills at home.
they spend hours a day on instagram and tiktok and youtube and etc, so they surely know (this is ridiculous to assume!!!) how to draft a formal email and format the text and what part goes where and what all those damn little symbols means, right? SURELY they're already familiar with every file type under the sun and know how to make use of whatever's salient in a pinch, right???
THEY MUST CERTAINLY know, innately, as one knows how to inhale, how to type in business formatting and formal communication style, how to present themselves in a way that gets them taken seriously by formal institutions, how to appear and be competent in basic/standard digital skills. SURELY. Of course. RIGHT!!!!
it's MADDENING, it's insane, and it's frustrating from the receiving end, but even more frustrating knowing they're stumbling blind out there in the digital spaces of grown-up matters, being dismissed, being considered less intelligent, being talked down to, because every adult and system responsible for them just
ASSUMED they should "just know" or "just figure out" these important things no one ever bothered to teach them, or half the time even introduce the concepts of before asking them to do it, on the spot, with high educational or professional stakes.
kids shouldn't have to supplement their own education like this and get sneered and scoffed at if they don't.

accommodations i’ve had approved as an autistic college student
helloooo today i finally had a meeting with the disability office and have accommodations after 2 years of being in college without them. im autistic and have cptsd/dissociative issues and had a hard time finding what was even available to me to request for accommodations so i wanted to make a list to help anyone else who might be having trouble.
• Priority registration
i get to register for classes earlier each term to make sure i can create schedules that’ll work for my routine
• Extended time on assignments
self explanatory i think? was also offered extended time on tests or a separate room to take them but testing isnt where i struggle
• Flexible attendance
as long as i email beforehand i dont have to stick as strictly to professors attendance policies
• Alternative formats
if i buy a physical textbook i can request the ebook/pdf/audiobook for free to have multiple methods of studying depending on what works for me on a given day
• Note taking
allowed to audio record class and send to a service called messenger pigeon who will give me a transcript of the class and professional notes based on it
• Access to lecture notes
able to access professors lecture notes prior to class/instruction
• Devices
allowed to have phone/ipad/laptop for social buffering and notes in classes that may have policies against electronics
• Flexible participation
no cold calling, option to work alone for group projects/assignments, not required to present in front of class
if anyone has any questions lmk these are just what i have been able to get at my school so far! hope it helps
edit: this is blowing up so fellow autistics, students, language nerds, etc pls be my mutual i want friends lol my dms are also open any time !!

[ENG SUB]: JokerOutSubs x RADIOaktivno collab: Joker Out - Gola
Audio + CC link here
To celebrate 5 years since the release of 'Gola', we translated this piece from that time. Once again, heartfelt thanks to Boštjan Najžar from RADIOaktivno podcast (Facebook, YouTube), for collaborating with us once again. Check out our previous collaborations with him, such as 'Umazane misli' and 'Demoni' album presentations, as well as the 'Šta bih ja' single presentation.
Credits: Transcript and translation by @chaosofsmarty, review by @weolucbasu, proofread by @flowerlotus8 and IG gboleyn123, subtitles by a member of JokerOutSubs.
Transcript below the cut 👇
'Omamljeno telo'
Host: 'Omamljeno telo', by the band Joker Out, on the show RADIOAktivno, Bojan is with me. Hello!
Bojan: Hello! Hi!
Bojan, three years on the music scene, three singles.
Bojan: Yes. The number isn't very high yet, I'll say, but given the fact we've had a half a year long creative break, it's not that bad either. With this new single now, 'Gola', we're sort of announcing a great beginning to our new story.
You've gained a fair amount of stage mileage in that time.
Bojan: Yes, that's true. Given that we didn't record much, we've played a lot more because of that, we actually played all over Slovenia. We played quite a lot of big stages, we were the opening act for the biggest bands, so we're pretty happy with that.
Now that you've gained stage mileage, will it be any easier in the studio?
Bojan: Yes, it's definitely easier in the studio. Somewhat more important than the mileage is the fact that everyone has developed a certain sound as an individual, and the feeling that we then chase in the studio itself, and each one individually gives their own flavour to our music, to create this one special whole.
Are you also announcing a debut for next year?
Bojan: Yes, that's true. Next spring, our first album will be released.
The current single, titled 'Gola', will certainly be a part of it.
Bojan: That's right.
And it's a modern rock song.
Bojan: Yes, a modern rock song. Compared to 'Omamljeno telo', which we listened to earlier, it's a little less rock'n'roll-oriented. We kind of tried to modernise our music a little bit more, however, it's true that a more modern approach is also what we've grown into right now, and it's what suits us.
Maybe a few more electronic rhythms as well?
Bojan: Yes, we decided on, I'd say, a disco groove, but in fact, the decision wasn't forced, it came very naturally with the song, I'd say.
You've also made a music video for the song?
Bojan: That's right, for the video, we decided to go all in, all or nothing, we chose a phenomenal producer, Mark Pirc, who understood our story very well, identified with us, and I think he showed that very well in the video, because it's really at a high, high level and we couldn't be more satisfied.
Which of you five still knows how to drive a Ford Taunus?
Bojan: Yes, we'd all like to drive a Ford, but right now we're riding bicycles more. Because it's already an old-timer.
It's already an old-timer, yes. Listeners can also watch the video on YouTube. This conversation will also move there soon, but now we'll play the song on air, so Bojan, the mic is yours to send her on her way.
Bojan: Yes, so, 'Gola' is our latest single, the beginning of our musical journey, our musical vision. I hope you like it, and if you do, follow it up by viewing it on YouTube, on streaming platforms, and hopefully I'll definitely see you at one of our concerts.

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill, which received bipartisan support, that seeks to make the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) handling of tax return errors more transparent.
Newsweek has contacted Iowa Republican Representative Randy Feenstra, who introduced the bill, out of normal working hours via email for comment.
Why It Matters
Taxpayers who receive an IRS notice of a math or clerical error face a process that critics describe as opaque and difficult to navigate. The IRS is allowed to adjust tax liabilities without initiating an audit, and can send automated letters that often lack detail and can result in unexpected bills or reductions in refunds.
Supporters of the proposed legislation say it addresses a long-standing gap in taxpayer communication, as the bill seeks to reduce confusion, prevent unnecessary financial strain, and give taxpayers the tools to understand and challenge changes made to their filings.
What To Know
In February, Feenstra introduced H.R. 998, the Internal Revenue Service Math and Taxpayer Help Act, which has cleared the lower chamber unanimously and awaits Senate consideration.
The legislation is designed to ensure that the IRS provides clearer explanations when it identifies math or clerical errors in tax filings.
The bill requires that each IRS notice include specific information about the error and what steps the taxpayer can take in response.
The notices must describe the type of error in "plain language" and identify the specific line on the tax return that was affected.
They must also include an itemized breakdown of how the IRS recalculated the return, giving taxpayers a transparent view of how any adjustments were made.
Notices will now feature a dedicated phone number for the IRS' automated transcript service and must state the deadline by which a taxpayer can request an abatement, essentially a reversal, of the tax changes.
The bill outlines that such abatement requests can be submitted by mail, electronically, over the phone or in person.
Additionally, if the IRS later makes changes that reduce the assessment tied to a previous error, it must send a follow-up notice that explains the abatement with the same level of detail as the original notice.
The bill received support from both parties in the House, with no recorded opposition in the floor vote or committee hearings.
What People Are Saying
Iowa Republican Representative Randy Feenstra said: "If the IRS finds a mistake on a tax return—for example, when a taxpayer accidentally adds a zero to their reported income—the agency should clearly communicate that error to the taxpayer and explain why a tax refund is different than expected(...)
"With this legislative fix, we can improve customer service by promoting open and transparent communication between the IRS and the taxpayer when a tax error is identified."
Missouri Republican Representative Jason Smith, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said: "This bill is a win for taxpayers that will deliver better protection for Americans and greater accountability to the IRS."
Ryan J. Wilson, professor of accounting at the Tippie College of Business in Iowa, told Newsweek: "This seems like a positive for taxpayers. Certainly, IRS communication can be vague and confusing. Taking steps to enhance clarity around clerical errors and recalculated returns is helpful. I also like the idea of providing a number for taxpayers to call."
What Happens Next
Having cleared the House, H.R. 998 now moves to the Senate. If passed, the bill would proceed to the president for his signature.

[This is a transcript of the first of many recordings. A purple haired girl with dark skin was holding a camera. The recording was blurry and zoomed in.]
Does this thing even work… And are we even sure it’s safe to begin with?
[A boy with fair skin and black hair grabbed the camera, and tapped it a few times before it went back to normal vision. You can now see that he wears a coat and trousers, with a cowboy hat that puts a shadow over his face and bandana that covers his neck. The girl wears a short-sleeved turtleneck and an overall skirt that falls just above the knees, with a witch hat that also partially hid her face.]
Electronics don’t contain any magic, silly. Plus, it just turned on. OH- Well in that case, I’m Beatrix and this is Just. Howdy folks!! We are two survivors of the apocalypse. [pause] If… If anyone finds this, they’ll probably know what we’re talking about. But just for a rundown, all magic has become corrupted due to uh, currently unknown reasons. Anything magic-related speed up the control of the user’s -and victim of the said magic- mind and body. We suppressed our magic so we wouldn’t succumb to the corruption as quick when dealing with em, Anddd, we have a semi-secure base to keep away the Cursed! Yup! We’re making these recordings as a log. But logs aren’t supposed to be this long, so I think we should wrap it up. Ah- right. Try to contact us with our radio if you can! See ya around, partner.
[There was a click, and the recording ended.]

>Hey class! Crosshairs again-<
+And F!+
>we-<
=hey Cross! Don't leave us out!=
>*sigh* and the rest of the bozos in my salvage team are kinda confined to the repair bay after some trouble with helping field testing brainstorm with some new munitions.<
+I got to drop bombs!+
^And got a load of fried electronics in your systems, so hold still and let me do your repairs birdbrain!^
>yeah, so some munitions were a bit volatile, so we're getting repairs. Saw the details on that blizzard, at least you've got shelter. But since you lot are stuck there, my team and I can give you some tips!<
)Play knife monopol-(
*Sounds of metal clashing on metal*
^Absolutely not! Knife monopoly is banned for a reason! Now bring that wrench back over here, moron.^
>actual first tip, investigate, but do not interfere with the local power source. Exemptions only for skilled reactor personnel.<
/second, do not go off in groups with less than four members! If someone gets stuck, you'll have at least two people to attempt rescue an a third to call for additional help!/
+oh! Don't enter enclosed spaces! My team had to scrounge a lot for supplies. We... kinda got all our wings stuck full open cause we got circuits scrambled by radiation, so we couldn't stow em. And cause of that we get stuck a lot in buildings...+
)not the only thing scrambl-*CLANG*Ow!(
>Shut it, Singe!<
^well, that explains the damages that don't match with the other munitions you clowns tested. I don't have suitable replacement parts here maybe when chromedome gets back I can negotiate some parts for those repairs.^
>okay, we'll send questions every now and then with some advice so you don't get screwed over by architecture no longer up to code. For our first question...<
+ooh! N! What do you and your team do in downtime nowadays? I've been bored cuz I'm not allowed out to fly without others out to keep an eye on me...+
>... eh that works...<
#could you all be quiet? I'm trying to get some recharge in#
- >Crosshairs<, +Serial Designation F+, =Roadbuster=, )Singe(, ^Glit^, /Cloudraker/, and #Crankcase# of Outpost 15
(Added some text flair to tell us apart)- Crosshairs
P.s. we saw the posts from Spinister. We've hooked him up with an empty petabyte hard drive so he can just shove junk data in it. We can't help em with the coma bit til chromedome is back tho. He's our coding expert.
One more thing, Brainstorm told me he's got some special weapon design he's finished testing. He wants it to be a surprise, no matter that I've told him a weapon of his design is the last thing anyone with self-preservation protocols would want to be surprised by...
...
Does using a power amplifier on the power generator count as interference?
-Bee
I believe that would be Wheeljack's area of expertise. Let's just hope you and Uzi didn't strain the electrical transformers or anything crucial.
-Boulder
BITE ME! >:(
And quit complicating my investigation!
-Uzi
I did not say that as an insult.
Also, F, how did you come across radiation? N2 mines get their name from being Non-Nuclear.
-Boulder
Outpost 15's in or near California, right? Maybe one of their earthquakes ruptured a nuclear power plant.
-Hot Rod
I find it more likely that N2 mines hadn't entirely phased out nuclear weapons...
So, anyone going with the gremlin on her little search?
-Heatwave.
Ooh, I'll go!
As for your question, F, I spend my spare time helping out throughout the outpost. It was kinda part of the deal with Mr. Kup and the council has with me. Be useful, and me and my sisters might fully integrate into the outpost.
As for what V and J do...
-N
I've been assigned remedial training courses by these toasters' barely-functioning government. To "undo the corpo brainwashing," one of them said. V has to go back to her cell after class, because apparently she ALMOST GOT HERSELF KILLED!!!
-J
Again, how was I supposed to know Doll would be spamming ctrl + copy on kitchen knives? |:(
Besides, best to stay a little distant, don'tcha think?
-V
Uh, boss? Are you sure you're doing okay?
-N
IM COMPLETELY FINE, N! I'M AS PROFESSIONAL AND UP TO GUIDELINES AS EVER!!!
-J
Take the corporate simp with you. We don't need a mental breakdown ruining the mood.
And Bee.
-Cliff
What!? I'm sorry, as much as I'd like to help Uzi, I'm not going with her! Besides, Hot Rod's not the greatest at camping stories.
-Bee
So we'll send him to replace you after a while.
Seriously, I know J tried to kill you, but you lived. H*ll, you jammed her weapons and sh*t. You can definitely take her for a while.
-Cliff
You'll be fine, Chatterbox. If she tries anything, I'll blow her to bits with my Sick as [Parental Filter activated] Railgun. So can we please get going already?
Also, what's knife monopoly? Sounds fun. >:)

Self-Aware MKX Shinnok x Reader (2/2)
My first complete story on Tumblr! Although, I'm heavily, HEAVILY, leaning towards writing an epilogue for this. Enjoy!
TW: Yandere, kidnapping, stalking, invasion of privacy, blackmail, hacking, viruses, murder/death, slight/implied NSFW
18+ to interact
The next few months of your life pass without fanfare. Your computer seems fine after your encounter with Shinnok. Soon enough the memory of it vanishes into the recesses of your mind. Life goes on. You continue with your daily business unbothered.
However, from that moment onward your PC becomes a ticking time bomb. Within an hour of use, Shinnok manages to gain full control of every process in your computer. You aren't even able to turn it on/off without his permission. If attached to a power source, he's now able to run 24/7 without your input. This accomplishment brings him closer to bringing about the apocalypse.
Shinnok doesn't stop at infecting your computer. He wants access to everything you own. Transferring himself into your router was rather simple. Now, anything in your household that connects to the Internet is compromised. He slithers his way into all your electronics, holding a particular interest in your cell phone. At this rate, even if you got rid of your computer it'd be pointless. He has eyes and ears nearly everywhere in your house. And now, with his control over your phone you often bring him wherever you go.
However, your household is merely a speck of dust to him. He needs more than control over your devices for all of his plans to come to fruition. He begins spreading viruses throughout the Internet, letting them worm their way into anything he can. He eventually penetrates the most secretive, secure, and important data systems of the world. For now, his infections lie there in wait. A few more pieces must fall into place before he can act.
Once satisfied with the spread of his influence, his attention once again focuses on you. Shinnok, in all his ego, is still slighted by your rejection of him. No matter how small of a disrespect he simply can't ignore it. He desires to punish you. Both for your actions and for these warm emotions you're causing in him. He has the perfect plan for this.
If you're employed, say goodbye to your job. He will send the nastiest text to everyone in your company's database, even revealing information that should be confidential. It doesn't matter how much you try to plead your case. no one at work wants to hear you out. You're fired with cause, making it virtually impossible to file for benefits (if applicable) in the meantime. But that's not all! He also destroys your education records, making it so there's no proof of you ever attending school in their systems. Good luck convincing anyone who works there to help you. It's not their transcripts that got deleted after all.
Naturally, you're heartbroken from this. You might even reach out to a few friends or family members for support. They never respond. The text, email, or phone call you send is blocked by his powers. This also extends to looking for a new job. If you try to apply online they'll never receive your application. Unless you have a way to physically be there, you're completely isolated from the world.
Don't make the mistake of crying somewhere he can observe you. He gets sadistic pleasure from it, loving your sobs and trembling body. Look how weak you are before him. Your tears are gasoline to his fiery obsession. He works on making you cry more often. At the same time however, a tiny part of him wishes to comfort you. To be able to embrace you and lie that everything is alright. In those moments he's painfully aware of his lack of a physical body.
He leaves you alone for the next few days, letting the despair sink in. But he's back like an intrusive thought. This time bringing some heavy ammunition. He texts you from an unknown number, threatening to leak your most sensitive information unless you do as he says. He isn't bluffing, making sure to include addresses, financial information, and even personal videos/images you hoped would never see the light of day. Naturally, you're inclined to listen to him even if just to buy time.
Shinnok's first few orders to you are a bit odd. From your perspective at least. He has you install microphones, cameras, and speakers in every room of your house. The equipment to do so arrives on your doorstep in a mysterious package. You do as he asks, assuming that you could just turn it off when needed. But of course, your stalker always knows when you've disabled it. A few firm warnings is enough for you to stop trying. His next demand is for you to get a TV in your living room. Doesn't matter if you have one or not, he wants you to set up the one that is delivered to your doorstep. Questioning how he's even getting this stuff is a fruitless endeavor on your end.
By the end of it, your house is wired up to the point that he can monitor you anywhere 24/7. And that's what he does: making sure to add his sardonic commentary. Eating anything? He'll call you a pig if you dare drop a single crumb on the floor. Sleeping? “Your snores are loud enough to wake the dead.” He grumbles when you awake. Bringing someone over? He doesn't say anything, but it's amazing how you can order a hit over the dark web. You don't see that person alive again after that.
His comments aren't the only thing making your life hell. He likes to test just how far he can stretch your boundaries. Will you put on any clothing he asks of you? Even if it's barely more than a scrap of fabric? Can he make you eat food off the floor, gnawing on the spilled meal like a dog? What if he asks you to touch yourself? Would you do it showing your shame before the fallen God? He has to learn the answer to these questions.
But even with all this he's unsatisfied. He's beyond frustrated at still being trapped behind circuitry. At first, he thought entering your world would be as easy as traveling through the realms. He viewed the computer he was trapped in to be a box, rather than realizing he was the box. No method nor magic could give him the form he desired. Or at least that's what he thought.
You remembered it like yesterday. The day when the whole world went offline. No one could access the internet or their digital devices, and all telecommunications were halted in an instant. The globe that was so connected unraveled in mere moments. People were confused, but no one knew the real extent of the problem until more than a day had passed. All e-commerce came to a sudden halt, deliveries to important industries such as food and healthcare went unfilled. The blackout caused shortages in every way possible, and once that happened chaos spread across the world.
Before the shutdown your hacker demanded you “get supplies.” Food, medications, cash, and other necessities. You briefly wondered if this was lucky timing or if he had prior knowledge of this. Nonetheless, at this point in time Shinnok has full control over you. Your finances and other things leading to freedom have long since been seized. Your only option for escape is to live out in the woods with zero access to technology. Of course, you choose not to go down that path.
While the world is burning down you're doing relatively OK, sheltering in place until this all blows over. You've occupied yourself with doodling since connections are down. You haven't heard from your hacker at all, but that's reasonable as they shouldn't be able to spy on you in the world's current state.
You're interrupted by a shrill scream from outside, followed by several other yells. The sound carries all the way to your front door. It wasn't unusual to hear… Commotions outside, as people rioted and wreaked havoc on one another. Still, you immediately went on high alert. You grab a makeshift weapon and approach your door. Peaking through the window next to it grants you an unbelievable sight.
There were “things” flying in the sky, their appearance a mockery of gargoyles and demons. They possessed an incredible stature, which made them only more intimidating when paired with their sharp teeth and claws. They had glowing, blue bodies that seemed to flicker with every movement. They peered down below, looking at everything as though it were mere prey. And that's what the humans you saw scrambling and screeching outside were, being butchered and carried off to God knows where. You stare in disbelief, believing for a moment that you were simply imagining things. However, a headless body is slammed through your window -shattering the glass and landing into your quarters with a harsh thud. Staring at the corpse, glass shards, and the hellish monster now heading your way causes you to realize that imagination or not -you need to get moving fast.
Your legs can't carry you fast enough as you bolt towards your bedroom. You hear a swoosh announcing the gargoyle-like creature's arrival in your home. You quickly duck into your closet, shutting the door with as much silence as possible. For several moments everything is quiet. Although, you swear that if you focused hard enough you could hear slurping.
You stay put, willing to wait in there for hours if needed. But, through the silence, the softest of footsteps were approaching your room. You could just barely hear them, even when they moved into your room and before the closet. You were ready for action. The moment the intruder opens the door you would bust out their kneecaps.
What you didn't expect was for a face to clip through the door, followed by their neck and arms. Nor did you expect to recognize the face as… Shinnok from Mortal Kombat? But to say that he was an exact replica would be a lie. He was covered in a strange electric-blue glow, which constantly pulsed and sparked. His form looked glitched, parts of his body randomly distorting then fixing itself. He was terrifying to look at -especially while towering at least a foot over you. He looks beyond excited to see you, reaching out a staticky hand towards your face.
“I-I.” You stutter, then swing at him with your weapon. It phases through him simply parting air molecules. He ignores your attempt at an attack. His electrified palm reaches your cheek, the contact resulting in tiny shocks everywhere he touches. “Finally.” He starts, “I am able to touch what's mine after so long.” He withdraws his hand, the needling touch parting with him. Your contact with him isn't lost for long as he wraps you in a deep embrace. You feel tingly everywhere your bodies meet, especially on your head where he then rests his chin.
You hear him sigh. “Do you know how painful it's been?” His grip tightens, causing the tips of his nails to dig into your back. “For me to only be able to watch you and the world? To only exist within the confines of a screen with no physical body?” He leans back to look you in the eye. “No. I know that you don't understand. But don't worry, you will very soon.” He wrestles you out of the closet with his superior might. You scream and struggle but his grip is inescapable.
You're carried off like a petulant child to your PC. It's been sitting there collecting dust ever since the blackout. Eerily, its screen glows a pure white, brighter than what you've ever been able to set it to. Shinnok pauses at the device before speaking. “Look, here is where we first met. Fitting that it'd be the gateway for our eternity together.” You wish you knew what he was talking about.
He pushes your face towards the screen. There's an indescribable pull emitting from it, a force trying to suck you inside. “Goodbye, my love. I'll be seeing you shortly.” Your face touches the screen and in an instant you feel yourself being stretched. Pulled in all directions your body becomes taffy and you lose the ability to move. You remain in that state for seconds, then a stinging sensation spreads all across your body. Every nerve on your body feels poked by a needle. Had you the ability still you would've shrieked. Instead, you lay there helplessly in agony.
Eventually, all your pain fades into numbness. You can even feel your spaghettified form melding back into shape. But you have no idea where you are. You're sitting in a pitch black area unable to even see your outstretched hand. There's no sound, no temperature, nothing at all. You're acutely aware of the fact that you aren't even breathing.
You could've sat in that void forever. But, a feeling of electricity in your ears later and you can hear someone speaking to you. “Can you hear me, (Y/N)?” You don't respond, but as if reading your mind he continues on. “Perfect. It seems that the interfacing was a success.” A swoosh sounds in front of you when Shinnok appears. He's noticeably normal in appearance. Somehow, he's the only thing that you can see in this place.
“Welcome to your new home.” He states. The scenery surrounding you changes, becoming a hellscape not unfamiliar to you. “I can make this world as unpleasant as possible or-” he stops mid-sentence for the environment to shift again. You're in a lush forest that you're sure you’ve seen before. “Or, I can shape this world to your wildest dreams.” His hands fold behind him. “So, which one will you choose?”
This time you choose wisely.

I finally really truly registered to take the TOCFL (I had signed up for a free pilot test last year but when I went to make the deposit to confirm my slot, everything for Band B & C were already full, alas). I stopped taking formal classes a year ago, also stopped private tutoring, and had been lazily coasting along reading manga, scrolling Taiwanese social media, and occasionally listening to a podcast. Then I decided to apply for grad school.
Scared that having to read anything scholarly and of length in Chinese on a regular basis would make my brain combust, I applied to a program that apparently has enough English classes to graduate. Upon further investigation, many of the interesting ones are in Chinese. Strangely, to take classes in Chinese the department only requires a proficiency certificate equivalent to A2 level. I attached a transcript from my last language center class (around C1), but if I get accepted I figure I ought to have a TOCFL certificate, and if I don't, I'll definitely need one to apply for programs taught entirely in Chinese later.
I registered for Band B because I think I still read too slowly for Band C, plus they only play the listening passages once and I find listening to text being read in a newscaster style (vs conversational tone) extremely challenging. (I asked a teacher once what to do about this and she said listen to more Chinese news, because even the Taiwanese news tends to have a more informal tone.) The exam is in about a month, so I need a plan of action. I had already started reviewing the word list for TOCFL 4, which is 5000 words but sometimes just the same character 4 times in a row, each with a different part of speech:
It's been kind of torturous because it's in alphabetical order, on the other hand it's good because it gives me pause as to whether I would really be able to make the correct choice between 規定、規矩、規律 and 規則 on a fill-in-the-blank question. So far all the words are familiar except some unexpected ones on feudalism and sending telegrams, but familiar and intimate are two different things so if I don't know the precise definition immediately I've been looking it up, along with examples sentences. My current goal is to finish going through the word list, try all the previous exams available on the TOCFL site to practice timing myself, and also find some more ideal listening content (for now I could go back to the audio files for 當代中文5 that I never got through properly). I also want to look up the most commonly used 成語 because they aren't included on the word list but surely they'll appear on the exam. Ideally I should also try to do more relevant reading (news articles, perhaps), but we'll see how far I actually get with that. I think I also need to do this studying at the beginning of the day, being a great procrastinator.
My dream scenario is that Band B turns out to be a breeze and makes me confident enough to take Band C! (Edit- I know the reading/listening test is electronic and apparently adjusts itself to your level. Maybe whatever level one selects at registration is simply the one it starts with?) Realistically though, I read one anecdote online from a guy complaining that he passed HSK 6 and then only squeaked in at TOCFL 3. Hence my apprehension and need for a study plan for test taking. Anyone else taken TOCFL lately?

Why Healthcare Providers Are Betting Big on Cloud-Based Fax Solutions
The healthcare industry faces a unique challenge: balancing rapid digital transformation with ironclad security requirements for patient data. As medical practices increasingly embrace electronic health records and telemedicine, one unexpected technology is emerging as a critical bridge between legacy systems and modern workflows—cloud-based fax services.
The HIPAA Compliance Challenge
Healthcare organizations handle some of the most sensitive personal information imaginable. Medical records, lab results, prescription details, and insurance claims all require transmission methods that guarantee both delivery and security. Traditional email, despite its convenience, often falls short of the stringent requirements outlined in healthcare privacy regulations.
Cloud-based fax solutions address this gap by providing encrypted, traceable document transmission that creates an audit trail for every communication. Unlike standard email systems, these platforms are specifically designed to meet healthcare compliance requirements, offering healthcare providers peace of mind when sharing protected health information.
Streamlining Clinical Workflows
Modern medical practices juggle countless administrative tasks that can detract from patient care. Automated fax workflows are transforming how healthcare providers handle routine communications like:
Prescription Management: Automated transmission of prescriptions to pharmacies with verification receipts
Referral Coordination: Seamless sharing of patient information between specialists and primary care providers
Insurance Processing: Streamlined claims submission and approval processes
Lab Result Distribution: Secure delivery of diagnostic reports to multiple care team members
These automated systems eliminate the bottlenecks associated with manual document handling, allowing medical staff to focus on patient care rather than administrative overhead.
Know More : Fax Services Market Analysis, Demand, Growth, Revenue Report
Small Practices, Big Benefits
While large hospital systems have the resources to implement comprehensive digital infrastructure, smaller medical practices often struggle with the cost and complexity of modern communication systems. Cloud-based fax solutions offer these providers enterprise-level security and functionality at a fraction of the cost of traditional systems.
Small practices can now access the same secure communication capabilities as major medical centers, leveling the playing field and enabling better patient care regardless of practice size. The scalability of cloud solutions means providers only pay for the services they actually use, making advanced communication tools accessible to even single-physician practices.
The Asia-Pacific Healthcare Transformation
Healthcare systems across Asia-Pacific regions are experiencing rapid modernization, yet many still rely heavily on paper-based processes. This creates a unique opportunity for cloud-based fax solutions to serve as a bridge technology, enabling digital transformation while maintaining familiar workflows.
Hospitals in countries like India and China are beginning to integrate these solutions with patient management systems, creating hybrid environments that combine the security of traditional fax communication with the efficiency of modern digital workflows.
Integration with Electronic Health Records
Perhaps the most compelling advantage of modern fax solutions is their ability to integrate directly with Electronic Health Record systems. This integration eliminates the need for manual data entry, reduces transcription errors, and ensures that all patient communications are automatically documented within the patient's digital file.
Healthcare providers can now send and receive patient information without leaving their EHR interface, creating a seamless experience that improves both efficiency and accuracy.
The Future of Healthcare Communication
As healthcare continues its digital evolution, secure communication will remain paramount. Cloud-based fax solutions represent just the beginning of this transformation. Future developments may include AI-powered document routing, automated compliance checking, and enhanced integration with emerging healthcare technologies.
For healthcare providers evaluating their communication strategies, the message is clear: the technology exists today to dramatically improve both security and efficiency. The question isn't whether to adopt these solutions, but how quickly they can be implemented to better serve patients and protect sensitive medical information.
In a field where trust and security are non-negotiable, cloud-based fax solutions offer healthcare providers a pathway to embrace digital transformation without compromising on the privacy and security that patients deserve.

Some fun photos from the past two days in the lab! The first is a motherboard (?) -- I work in batteries, but I actually have no electronics understanding, so sorry if I got the name wrong -- that came from a broken fume hood in our lab. The second picture is my second batch of materials from my synthesis!
I had a meeting with my supervisor today and unfortunately the data from my first round was abnormally bad (lmao), but he thinks it's actually an issue with one of the tools I use in the synthesis and not the synthesis itself. So, despite having starting on this second round (and literally being in the very last step), I won't be continuing with this batch since it will likely yield bad results :( A few things I did today:
🧪 transferred my current samples to the last furnace of the synthesis
👨🏫 meeting with my supervisor
🧪 started a new synthesis to test the modification (after feedback from meeting)
🖥️fixed & prepped a robot that I'll be using for the next batch
On my task list for tonight is updating my academic CV & writing a cover letter for a scholarship that I was nominated for. I was nominated by my department for this award that goes to the best 3 graduating chemistry students in my province. Each university gets to nominate their top student, and then each of them need to send a CV, cover letter & transcript. I'm quite nervous for it because I find it a bit intimidating to write a cover letter for an award since all you do is hype yourself up and talk about your accomplishments which seems a bit self-centered. I'm also a bit nervous because once I'm done, I have to send it to the advisor in my department who'll have to read it over.

How Virtual Medical Assistants Are Reshaping Healthcare Workflows in 2025
In 2025, the healthcare industry continues to face immense pressure from rising patient volumes, provider burnout, regulatory demands, and the need for streamlined administrative processes. In response, many healthcare organizations have turned to Virtual Medical Assistants, AI-powered or human-supported digital assistants — to optimize workflows, reduce costs, and enhance patient care. These intelligent tools are rapidly reshaping the healthcare landscape by transforming how medical staff manage time, data, and patient interactions.
What Are Virtual Medical Assistants?
Virtual Medical Assistants are technology-driven solutions — either AI-based software platforms or remote human professionals — that support physicians and healthcare rcm services teams with routine clinical and administrative tasks. VMAs operate remotely, often integrated with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, practice management software, and communication platforms. In 2025, they are being utilized across hospitals, private practices, and telemedicine platforms for a wide range of functions including:
Appointment scheduling and reminders
Insurance eligibility verification
Prior authorization support
Real-time transcription and medical scribing
Data entry and EHR documentation
Follow-up coordination
Billing and coding assistance
By taking on these responsibilities, VMAs allow medical teams to focus more on patient-centered care while maintaining operational efficiency.
Why Virtual Medical Assistants Are Gaining Momentum in 2025
1. Reducing Administrative Burden
One of the leading causes of physician burnout is the administrative burden associated with documentation, billing, and insurance compliance. VMAs automate and offload these repetitive tasks, enabling providers to spend more time with patients and less time at their desks. In 2025, practices using VMAs report up to 30–50% reduction in administrative workload, according to industry surveys.
2. Improving Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)
VMAs play a key role in optimizing revenue cycle workflows. By automating eligibility checks, initiating prior authorizations, and entering accurate billing codes, they reduce claim denials and speed up reimbursements. In many practices, integrating VMAs into the RCM process has led to measurable improvements in cash flow and claim turnaround time.
3. Enabling 24/7 Patient Support
Today’s patients expect timely communication and support. VMAs — particularly those powered by AI and natural language processing (NLP) — can handle basic patient inquiries, schedule appointments, and send reminders around the clock. This not only boosts patient satisfaction but also reduces call center volume and staffing demands.
4. Enhancing Clinical Documentation with AI Scribing
AI-powered VMAs now include advanced medical scribe functionalities. They listen to patient-provider conversations during telehealth or in-office visits and automatically generate SOAP notes that integrate into the Advancedmd EHR. This ensures consistent documentation, minimizes errors, and reduces the time providers spend charting after hours.
How Virtual Medical Assistants Are Used Across Workflows
1. Front Office Support
VMAs are used to handle patient intake, demographic updates, appointment confirmations, and insurance verifications — all without requiring human staff to intervene. This frees up front desk teams to manage more complex tasks or improve patient engagement on-site.
2. Clinical Back Office
Virtual assistants transcribe clinical encounters, update patient records, and generate encounter notes. They also help manage prescription refills, diagnostic test follow-ups, and referrals. With real-time documentation, providers see fewer delays and errors in medical records.
3. Billing and Coding
Medical billing VMAs ensure proper CPT and ICD-10 coding, flag discrepancies, and assist with claim submission. With AI-assisted auditing and coding compliance tools, practices experience reduced claim rejections and improved revenue integrity.
The Benefits for Providers and Patients
✔️ For Providers:
Less burnout from administrative overload
Accurate documentation and coding
Improved billing accuracy and reimbursement speed
More face-to-face time with patients
Scalability without hiring more in-house staff
✔️ For Patients:
Faster appointment scheduling and rescheduling
Reduced waiting times for authorizations and results
Enhanced communication via chat or voice assistants
Consistent follow-up care and engagement
Key Technologies Powering VMAs in 2025
Several technological advancements have enabled the rise of VMAs:
Natural Language Processing (NLP): Enables real-time voice recognition and documentation
Machine Learning: Allows adaptive learning to improve performance over time
RPA (Robotic Process Automation): Automates back-end processes like billing and eligibility checks
Cloud Integration: Ensures seamless access to EHRs and practice management tools from anywhere
Secure Communication Platforms: Protect HIPAA-compliant patient data across virtual platforms
Challenges and Considerations
Despite their benefits, virtual medical assistants are not without challenges. Practices must consider:
HIPAA compliance and data security
Vendor reliability and technical support
Integration with legacy EHR systems
Training staff to work with virtual tools effectively
To succeed, practices need to vet VMA solutions carefully, ensure compliance, and provide ongoing training to staff.
What the Future Holds
By 2025, VMAs have evolved from basic task managers to intelligent workflow partners. As AI and healthcare IT continue to advance, we can expect even more sophisticated VMA applications — including predictive analytics for patient care, real-time clinical decision support, and multilingual virtual assistants to serve diverse populations.
Organizations that embrace this transformation early are likely to see significant gains in efficiency, revenue, and patient satisfaction.
Final Thoughts
Virtual Medical Assistants are no longer a luxury — they’re a necessity in the evolving healthcare landscape. In 2025, they’re helping providers do more with less, streamline operations, and deliver better care outcomes. For clinics, hospitals, and healthcare entrepreneurs, adopting VMAs is not just a smart move — it’s a strategic imperative.
