Fue una destacada #investigadora que descubrió una clave para entender el efecto invernadero, el cambio climático, la ciencia del clima y la meteorología. Estudió en el Troy Female Seminary (1836-1838) donde las estudiantes podían atender clases de una facultad de ciencias cercana que posteriormente se convertiría en el Instituto Politécnico Rensselaer, donde Foote aprendió los fundamentos de química y biología. Allí fue influenciada por los libros de Almira Hart Lincoln Phelps, la hermana de #EmmaWillard, que fue una pionera de las mujeres en la ciencia, una experta botánica. Foote careció de la ventaja de una buena formación en física experimental, en parte consecuencia de la desigualdad de género de su tiempo, en parte del desarrollo de la ciencia estadounidense en comparación con la británica y europea. Fue miembro del Comité Editorial para la Convención de Seneca Falls de 1848, la primera convención de derechos de las Mujeres y una de las firmantes de la convención Declaración de Seneca Falls. It's August 18th, ♀️ American Women's Suffrage Day. On this day in 1920, a dramatic battle in the Tennessee House of Representatives concluded with the state ratifying the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution. The decisive vote was cast by State Representative Harry T. Burn, who reputedly changed his vote after receiving a note from his mother.

America’s suffrage movement was founded in the mid-19th century by women who worked for the abolitionist and temperance movements. In July 1848, 200 women suffragists, organized by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, met in Seneca Falls, New York, to discuss women’s rights. They passed a resolution that declared, “It is the duty of women of this country to secure their sacred right to vote.” Then in 1900, when Carrie Chapman Catt took over from Susan B. Anthony as president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, she prioritized the push for a constitutional amendment to give women the right to vote. The National Women’s Party, led by Lucy Burns and Alice Paul, engaged in civil disobedience, targeting President Woodrow Wilson with protests outside the White House.

Facing growing pressure, Wilson personally appealed to Congress for women’s suffrage. Having voted down the amendment six times, the Senate finally approved it and sent it to the House of Representatives. Thanks to Burn's vote, the House approved the amendment, Tennessee ratified it, and the Constitution was changed to guarantee women the right to vote. However, despite the ratification and the decades-long contributions of Black women to achieve suffrage, local laws, poll taxes, and other restrictions continued to prevent Black women (and men) from voting. They are much cooler panoramic, but I couldn't figure out how to do a gallery with them all panoramic. I'll post some separate panoramic shots. Unfortunately, there are currently some pretty serious structural problems from previous owners who framed additions themselves. A TON of weight is coming through the middle of the house from the 3rd floor roof and lakeside addition. Let's just say we somewhat expected this... major developments coming soon!
