The last summer.

Graduation was weeks ago and as summer bounds forward, reality sets in. Your friends: the core group you surrounded yourself in during high school will all part ways. You've all gotten into different schools in different cities. Photos of you all in caps and gowns will one day be memories of the past. Your signed yearbooks from each other with personalized messages will be evidence of friendship and youth.

It's odd, what that last summer can do. You begin to ease closer into a world where high school hallways and pep club don't exist. You see, everything is so much bigger when we're teenagers. Everything is the end of the world. The stakes were always so large that we couldn't fathom anything else beyond those walls. But that chapter is over and the real shit begins.

You may find yourself one day wishing to go back. Longing for Friday night football games and prom-posals and shitty cafeteria pizza. Nostalgic over your youth and the time you shared with those around you. Even though we always tell adults that we'd never want to return, we'll one day be telling future generations the same thing.

Make the last summer count before you leave. Play volleyball in the sand. Get drunk in a hot tub. Spend the night with each other because the convenience of one another will begin to fade if it hasn't already. We aren't meant to stay friends forever with the people we met in high school. But they can be little pockets of memory for those days we look back at and smile.

now that pride month is overrr here is something tht I have been musing over & have not yet been able to fully articulate: I remember enjoying pride in the past but still feeling disconnected and wishing that there was more of a focus on history/more of a year round presence and sense of community. and somehow (through work and time! but also fun and much love!) I have not only found that but helped build that. and I feel stronger & happier for it. and I so look forward to doing more.
