Hello! I've seen your recent post about Senpi on BlueSky. Judging by your comment on Last Boss Rush on YouTube, you've already read his blog post.

I've found that there was discussion about Senpi on Nicovideo Dictionary (dic.nicovideo.jp/b/a/戦ピー/1-). Basically, it seems like when Senpi upload the second part of Touhou EX Boss Rush, people started critisizing him for including original stuff (like Mitori and Momiji's theme).

Heya, thank you very much I was already aware of all of this information, but still, thank you for being interested, it means a lot to me that i am not the only one who cares about Senpi and wants him to come back For those who are not aware of Senpi's final blogpost, it is available here: https://web.archive.org/web/20110915142336/http://senpi1971.blog81.fc2.com/ I will include the full copypasted blogpost and the translation under the "read more" section at the bottom of this post Judging from the current information we have, it's difficult to form a solid conclusion on why he left i feel From what we know, the amount of criticism against Senpi's inclusion of fan-made characters was not the opinion of the majority, despite that, it seems that a vocal minority of critics have bothered Senpi greatly What's really confusing about this though, is that there seem to be multiple reasons in the current evidence; 1. Senpi deleted his works because he felt rushed when making Touhou EX Boss Rush (judging from his own final blogpost where he prioritises that topic) 2. Senpi deleted his works because the negative criticism surounding the inclusion of fanmade characters got to him In both of these cases, one thing seems clear; Senpi was overly hard on himself and cared so much about his perceived reputation that it greatly bothered him to the point of leaving the internet entirely But what makes this so confusing is that, in his final blogpost, he curiously avoids (on purpose or not on purpose? We don't know) talking about the criticism regarding the inclusion of fanmade characters, and focusses almost fully on the "rushed" narrative This is the only part of the blogpost where he slightly hints at the fanmade character topic:

That part sticks out to me, i don't know what to make of the fact that that is the only part of the blogpost where he refers to the fanmade character topic, and he does it vaguely as well (in my opinion) Was he feeling embarrassed and trying to use the "rushed" narrative as an excuse to deflect the critics to focus on that point instead of the fanmade characters criticism? I wonder if there's something about the criticism against fanmade characters that bothered him more specifically...? Senpi is known to have OC's/fanmade characters, as further evidenced by these archived Pixiv tags on Donmai: https://donmai.moe/artists/77998 This is just a theory, but maybe he was taking it more personally because the criticism involved original/fanmade characters, something he was invested in as well (i remember he even used to draw comics including them, of which very few are still archived, so most of those are lost media, but i remember seeing them on his website in 2010-2011, since i was a fan back then too) I think there's also an important historical context that could be important to keep in mind here; On Niconico back in the late 00's and early 10's, there was a precedent for very agressive behaviour against content creators, especially within the Touhou fandom on Niconico, for example the harrassement and doxxing of people involved with the creation of Touhou voice drama's, which led to multiple people disappearing from the internet, usually to avoid further harassement Perhaps Senpi was wary of the recent harrassement campaigns targeted against other Touhou-related content creators, and was trying to take preventive action by leaving the internet before it could get worse for him (this is just a theory of course) In his final blogpost, Senpi said;

The internet has changed a lot since 2011 If Senpi ever comes back, i hope that i, and others, will have the chance to let him know how much his work positively affected people I still consider Senpi to be one of my biggest music inspirations as a composer myself, and i wouldn't even have become a composer if it wasn't for him When i heard Tiny Crafty Gray for the first time, i just felt so many emotions, it made me cry, i didn't know music was capable of making me feel so many emotions at the same time yet, it really motivated me to pick up music myself as well I want Senpi to come back He was a great composer, a great arranger, and even in 2025, 14 years after his disappearance in 2011, we have not forgotten him, and never will

i think the way people close to me draw the same characters i do is always going to influence me a lot, and not always on purpose. and media i actively like, of course...

it's kind of hard to think of examples because i am an ignoramus who just doesn't notice these things. and i do not have enough people watching my artistic output for any of them to go "wow this reminds me of x"

though, genuinely, the things that first got me drawing in earnest will always have some manner of influence over my work, i think. and those things are largely sly cooper, phineas and ferb, and gravity falls 😂

It's been 6 years since the release of my 2nd Touhou style album back in 2019 (Fraternity of Melancholy) …And it's been 8 years since the release of my 1st Touhou style album in 2017 (Phantasm of Eternity) I actually started composing Touhou style music all the way back in 2012 Oh no. Has it really been 13 years? It's hard to imagine that, right? (But i will keep making music forever, this is just the beginning!) I remember when i was starting out as a teenager, there weren't many Touhou style composers yet (especially not outside of Japan, i was the first one in Europe even ^^''), but nowadays, i think there's more than a thousand Touhou style composers worldwide I would say that at this point, Touhou style has already become a "genre" of music for a long time Of course i still feel very inspired by ZUN, but i also feel like i want to add my own things to Touhou style music as well

This Touhou style album has a lot of experimental elements, such as a wider inclusion of progressive time signature and more jazz inspired harmonies, i wanted to create something that could stand on its own, and with a consistent theme, kind of like how Touhou 12 has a more jazz inspired theme with its music in general, and Touhou 13 has more trance-ish inspired themes For this album, i was mainly inspired by Touhou 10.5: Scarlet Wheater Rhapsody, Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object, and Touhou 12.8: Great Fairy Wars I wanted to really bring out that "airy" feeling that some of the songs in Touhou 12 have, but also combined with that playful and "heavenly" yet melancholic feeling from Tenshi and Iku's themes (which are some of my favourites in all of Touhou)

So i would say that the "theme" of this album is "heavenly progressive airy jazz fusion", or whatever that means I'm not very good at explaining these sort of things, i just sort of feel them, can you feel it too when you're listening to these songs? If so, then that means i have succeeded Even if it's not those exact feelings, i hope that listening to this music makes you feel something in general, i always really like to make my music in a very emotion-focussed kind of way, i like prioritising the composition (since that's where my specialtiy lies)

Ah, what does it even mean for something to be "Touhou"? That's hard to describe right? I've been doing this for 13 years, yet i kind of feel like some things are just not really possible to express using words Sometimes, some feelings can only be expressed through music, so i will let the music do the talking for me
