Astarion HC - perfume making
Nalae has an alchemy lab and Astarion gets to use it for making perfume (she'd be like "my lab is your lab")
I like to imagine him absolutely focused on extracting essential oils. You have to be focused, nimble and mindful in the process and it shows that these are his strengths. I like to imagine he is using a separatory funnel to separate the essential oil from water after the destillation and washing process. He's so good at doing this! his essential oils turn out perfect. She'd never cease to wonder how he balances rosemary, brandy and bergamotte so that it actually smells good.
Now that he has the option he also tries out other scents and combinations. Sometimes she'd just go and fetch heaps of herbs and flowers from the market for him because is there anything better than witnessing this vampire happily striving? 😌
It's astonishing how much he relaxes when working in the lab. She doesn't bother him when he's down there; even though he'd never mind she knows he's just in the flow working on his perfumes and doesn't want to interrupt him. ⚗️

Crow Behavior in BG3
One of the delights of BG3 is all of the random items we can collect for no other reason than that it makes us happy; it allows us to indulge in crow behavior, collecting every little knick-knack for our nest. So here are the things I've collected just because I imagine it makes the various companions happy.
Karlach: The plushie collection is currently at 22 teddy bears and 2 owl bear stuffies, and growing. Clive, her original teddy bear, deserves some friends and we're here to find them for her. Additionally, every firework we can find in the game belongs to her, because she deserves to set things on fire and launch them at people. Also, I think she would find the sparkly colors enchanting.
Karlach also has multiple types of beer on hand in her camp space, so any beer we find is saved for her so that she can enjoy herself at mealtimes. If there were a distillery with tasting in the game, we'd take her to visit it.

Astarion: Astarion tells us that he enjoys petty vanity, and yet he has one (1) set of clothes just like everyone else when he shows up. Reading the description of his default clothing lets us know that Cazador largely did not afford nice things--including basic changes of clothing--for the spawn, as his clothes have been repaired repeatedly rather than being replaced. And Astarion struggles with owning his own body and bodily autonomy, part of which is possibly entwined with feeling right in his own skin.
So the man deserves as many nice clothes as he wants now. We got delicately embroidered clothes, clothes of expensive silks, slutty clothes, modest clothes, silly clothes, serious clothes, every change of clothes we can possibly buy or steal to allow the man to engage in some vanity while he re-learns to love himself.

Gale: I have a collection of over 650 books, and it's all for him. He and Astarion (the other one reading all day at camp) surely have a book club, and Gale maintains the collection they choose from. Also, the extensive scroll collection that I refuse to sell regardless of the fact that 75% of them won't get used is for him, because he deserves as many magical tomes as we can get our hands on.
Gale has a crystal ball and telescope in his camp, suggesting that magical and scientific paraphernalia would interest him. So we loot every crystal ball, every scale, every hourglass, every conical flask and separatory funnel, and every slightly-dangerous-yet-intellectually-intriguing potion we can find so that the man can nerd out on a whim.
Finally, Gale has a little space for Tara in his camp consisting of a pillow, a bowl, and a ball; when we find toys and supplies for animals, we keep them around in case he wants them for Tara.

Lae'zel: Weapons and armor, in comical quantities. Lae'zel spends all day grinding weapons at camp, so she deserves some nice greatswords and axes to grind (hah hah). We've also sourced every variety of armor we can possibly find in the game, just to allow her to play with and admire the workmanship of different types of craft. As someone with a strong interest in warfare, it seems only fair to give her new toys in the form of a wide variety of finely-crafted armor. Nevermind that we won't use the majority of them; that's not the point. The point is to make the lizard lady happy.
Lae'zel's camp has a bunch of stuffed hunting trophies. So if we could loot the stuffed heads we find or make some out of our various enemy encounters, we would. Wyll: The man deserves access to the finest of wines. He's normally sipping something at camp from a fine-looking goblet, and we're here to provide the finest of drinks. The drinking horns you can find are for him, just to spice things up so that he's not using the same goblet every time.
We also loot every type of food. Yes, we could buy boring camp supply sacks from various merchants, but then how is he supposed to make appropriate pairings with his wine? No, friends: we collect as large a collection of treats as possible so that he can make a charcuterie board of delights whenever he wants.
Wyll's camp includes a quill and ink set, which suggests he likes to write or draw. So those quill and ink sets we find all over Faerun are for him. (On that note, he's probably also the one making the occasional portrait of the vain elf, since Astarion can't see himself in mirrors and would probably love a picture of what he looks like instead.) It's likely that if the inking set is for writing, he's sharing the books in Gale's collection as inspiration for his own writing. He might even join the book club.
And finally, the Blade of Frontiers deserves a nice rapier collection. Maybe Lae'zel even helps him maintain them in top shape.

Shadowheart: Shadowheart tells us that she likes a particular flower, and you have the option of bringing one to her. So we keep some un-extracted flowers around, just for ambience for her. She also spends all day praying at camp, so we loot some clean towels when we find them so that she has something soft to kneel on in place of a prayer rug.
Shadowheart's camp includes a collection of incense and candles. Whenever we find nice incense supplies and tapers, we save them for her to relax and/or pray with.

Halsin: Halsin tells us that he likes to whittle, and especially whittling animals. Any time we find a finely carved or manufactured object, we loot it for him as inspiration. The toad teapots in Ethels' cottage? A gift for the artistic druid man. The finely carved idols? For him. The delicately crafted music boxes? For Halsin. The slightly-suspicious-yet-well-made Whispering Masks? Also for him.
Halsin's lab is filled with all sorts of strangely preserved curiosities. So whenever we loot bottled blooms and anomalous coral and various seashells, it's so that he can have a curiosity collection away from home. The large bottles we collect en masse are so that he has the option of bottling his own curiosities. His camp has a mortar and pestle, so we take different iterations of those, too, to help with his preservation endeavors. He deserves to have access to a regular one and a silver one and a gold one, just for variety's sake. Jaheira: All the jewelry is for her. When we enter her hideout in Act 3, we find a beautiful necklace left by her partner, which suggests that she enjoys jewelry (or someone who knew her well thinks she does). She's even wearing a big ol' necklace in her default outfit. So the rings and the necklaces in number too many to use are all for her. The other thing of note we find in her hideout is a collection of stunning scimitars, which are her chosen weapon. So among the weapon collection that Lae'zel maintains are an extensive number of scimitars, which otherwise belong exclusively to Jaheira. Jaheira's camp has a bunch of "parent-ware", by which I mean she has stuff for cooking and cleaning and generally taking care of others. She also has a thousand children. Given how exhausting it is taking care of others, I think she deserves some time to herself. We take her to the perfume shop in Rivington, and we loot fine soaps and linens for her to relax with. The jewelry is also part of allowing her to spoil herself a bit.

Minsc: Minsc's camp site is pretty barren; as a ranger, he's likely accustomed to a fairly Spartan existence on the road. Boo seems to be his only (regular) companion. So the animal companions in camp are for him and him alone. Boo needs some friends, and so does Minsc. Scratch and the owlbear cub probably sleep at the foot of his bed regularly; in Elfsong, the owlbear sets themself up directly across from Minsc and I refuse to believe that is on accident.

Minthara: I haven't recruited her, so feel free to make suggestions. ;) But from pictures of her camp tent alone, I would think some things she might miss from the Underdark would be welcome. A few varieties of mushrooms and crystalline formations to remind her of home probably wouldn't go amiss.

it’s me again! thank you so much for your response on my first ask!
so, my next question is this: what does the Town do for more, like, advanced medical stuff? because you don’t need high tech for some ailments, such as stitching wounds and setting bones, and a few illnesses can be made out just through visible symptoms.
but what about things like stomach pumping? X-rays? stuff like that? would the Town have it, or would that be too “modern”?
i know the Town has IVs (at least, i think those were IVs in P2), and Rubin seems to have a bit of a more “modern” look to his lab, but i’m not sure how far that “modernness” extends.
I generally go by "if the doctors in Town aren't using it under the critical circumstances in-game, it doesn't exist" - the bachelor points out that he doesn't have adequate instrumentation, and the haruspex was sent out of the town to study modern techniques in the first place. the Town is also pre-electric so that's not a point in favor of complex equipment... here's my review of stuff that we Can find
the Haruspex has an alembic, which is used for distillation, and another thing - a brewing tank in 2, but its patho1 equivalent looks more like another kind of separatory device (note the spouts at differing heights) and its tooltip is just [Mixture]. I would guess this is rockable along the support rod, used 2 mix or separate fluids

isidor's house doesn't have much of any equipment but this second thing, which I can't quite place - it also looks like a separatory device but is hand-cranked. (alembic pic also inserted so it's not huge)

medical equipment provided in 2's theatre is overwhelmingly "tins of unknown substance" which are likely to reflect the prevalence of herbal medicines. & yeah, these are IVs formed from what looks like a waterskin and needle (of absurd gauge! mamma mia! I hope it's just that large so it shows up on the game screen)

I was surprised while checking locations for this that rubin's crappy p2 hideout has literally no instrumentation, he has a bonesaw and a water pump and a couple of cans/packages laying around. afaik he doesn't even make the vaccine in p2 which tracks with that :-( but in p1, he has visible a microscope, scale, sealable fluid tanks, and a variety of glassware: test tubes with racks, and stoppered Erlenmeyer and cylindrical flasks of multiple sizes. which is a lot more than dankovsky has (only a microscope + tubes). speaking of microscopes, the way their UI works in-game confirms that blood samples are not centrifuged so a lot of modern techniques aren't going to be applicable.

Oh boy oh boy, this feels like I'm back in elementary school science again \ :D /
So, when you extract plants or herbs, there's a whole techinqincal process is whats called an Extraction Process, so that you can separate the high density liquid from the low density liquid from your solvent liquid or what you started. What Goliath is holding is a Separatory Funnel
But you need two solvent liquids (one from a living organism and the other can be water)
The goal is to separate the two relatable solubilities into two different immscible liquids
And immscible liquids basically mean liquids that don't mix
Or say, a soul that would need to be put into a liquids, wink wonk

Empty Hot Sauce Bottles are Bad Separatory Funnels
So I decided, in order to be able to prepare materials for experiments at home, one of the first things I'd have to get good at would be separating out ethanol from mint, almond, and vanilla extracts to use as a solvent. Why? Because ethanol, with a density of 0.79 g/mL, is less dense than vegetable oil (0.91-0.93 g/mL), which in turn is less dense than water (around 1 g/mL). This means, that despite ethanol being miscible in water, some of it will still rise to the top when there is a non-polar layer (in this case vegetable oil) to separate them. Unfortunately for me though, I have no separatory funnel, and I have yet to see one that is food grade. And while a turkey baster or a meat flavor injector would likely be much better of a separatory funnel than an empty mini Tabasco sauce bottle, I don't currently have either of those.
I thought that a cleaned out mini tabasco bottle would be the next best thing, and I think it was, but it has the same issue that one encounters if they forget to take the plug off of the top of their separatory funnel: the only way for liquid to exit is the only way for air to enter. This means that the liquid flows very slowly, and may even stop flowing entirely unless the bottle is tilted. Except tilting the bottle brings the top most layer closer to the opening on the bottle. However, it seems that I did obtain some ethanol. Interestingly enough, the aqueous layer, the vegetable oil layer, and the ethanol layer all smelled strongly of mint, though it has yet to be seen if the vegetable oil sample will still smell like mint after the dehydrating agent has had some time to sit.

🦠After we learned about solutions and various separation techniques our teacher decided we should do some experiments. We did four experiments. The first one we did was making a solution by combining a solid solvent, in our case NaCl, and liquid solute, H2O. We used a really precise scale for the first time in my life. We also prepared a secondary solution using the first one to create a second one with a different concetration.Other experiments were mostly us trying out the separation techniques. In SL class we used a separatory funnel to separate oil from water, we did recrystallisation and filtration. And in our HL class we did evaporation, made a solution with CuSO4 and also filtration. We collected the data from all the experiments and made sure to pay attention to either lack or surplus of the final substances. The point was to show that even wirh using really good equipment mistakes could be made and errors could happen. 🦠

My gut was telling me Star Wars but I was too curious about the gator tank.
she was, like, 2, and in the big aquarium in genova. she was running around slamming her hands on the glass of every single tank, and nobody could stop her before she tried to do the same at the crocodiles ones
again, it was empty so there was no glass, and according to my mom she stood there, upside down over the separatory fence, in complete silence for a few seconds, all while i was freaking out and she was laughing her ass off

Una novità e-textile Con l’ambizione di sviluppare dispositivi elettronici indossabili versatili, i ricercatori del Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) di Laurel, Maryland, hanno stabilito nuovi approcci allo sviluppo delle fibre a batteria e a energia solare che possono essere portati a volumi adatti alla produzione di massa. Questa tecnologia può essere tessuta in indumenti che hanno il potenziale di raccogliere e immagazzinare energia elettrica, secondo una dichiarazione degli scienziati. Poiché le normali batterie in fibra sono ostacolate da limiti di scalabilità e di prestazioni, gli scienziati hanno progettato batterie in fibra con un design impilato simile alle celle a sacchetto convenzionali. L’apparecchiatura della batteria è stata realizzata su misura in fibre sottili e scalabili, impiegando un processo roll-to-roll su cui sono state laminate strisce piatte di elettrodi anodici e catodici con un separatore polimerico in una pila. Il tutto è stato tagliato al laser in fibre sottili. Elaborazione di 100 metri di fibra in oltre cinque ore “Possiamo lavorare 100 metri di fibra totale in poco più di cinque ore”, ha spiegato Jason Tiffany, ingegnere dell’APL e co-autore dell’articolo. “Con il nostro processo, possiamo rendere le fibre più piccole e più dense di energia, il che potrebbe aprire ancora più opportunità per le applicazioni tessili”.

knowing a bit of chemistry but not having access to reagents and equipment makes you weird like:: hmm i could make chloroform from acetone and bleach...... i could use it for my caffeine extraction since i don't have dichloromethane.....although ethyl acetate should work too ...... i wonder if i can also make the acetone form egg shells..... what else can i make with egg shells..... maybe sterno? ....it would be so cool to have a carbide lamp..... the carbide and water reaction that produces acetylene is so cooooolllll,,, but i can't make carbide from calcium carbonate i don't own a fucking forge..... sad. I need to get myself a camping stove...... can i use a normal kitchen funnel as a separatory funnel? as long as it's clear probably OH........IDEA can i make polyester with glycerin and citric acid yeah probably..... shit all my stuff is made of metal and plastic i don think i,m supposed to make chemistry with it....anyway i am sure i could use a spoon as a cathode,.... i should buy batteries with lithium inside. do they even still sell them?

Being a transmasculine person who doesn't really have any shits to give over their body or appearance is so funny like yeah you can squeeze my tiddies, they're barely there but sure if it makes you happy.
