“Thank you, Your Grace.”
Princess Rhaenyra smiled warmly at the small child, as did you. The little girl humbly accepted the half a loaf of bread from the Princess’ hands.
You and the Princess were currently in the heart of King’s Landing, inside one of the city orphanages. The harvest that year was already proving to be bountiful, almost entirely in part to the good people who worked the lands of your home. It seemed that there was plenty of food to go around those days, and you were grateful that the Princess and the King were of the mind that it ought not to be wasted.
Back in the Reach, you and your brother had often done the same- you’d visited all of the orphanages and sick homes in Oldtown and even The Arbor at one point or another. Your father has instilled the concept of giving back to those in need very early on in your lives, as your grandmother had instilled the same in him.
You had mentioned this in passing to Princess Rhaenyra one day, when she was still becoming acquainted with you. Once she’d heard of it, she declared it to be a worthwhile endeavor, and adopted something similar as part of her own regular routine.  As such, she had made it a point to visit a new place in need throughout the city each week.
While it warmed your heart to help those less fortunate than yourself, especially the parentless children, you were happy that the Princess had decided to become more hands-on with her charitable works for other reasons. You were no fool- you knew how positively the common folk viewed noble men and women who showed them sympathy and kindness.
As lady in waiting to the future Queen, you knew it would be in Princess Rhaenyra’s best interest to win the hearts of the people as soon as possible. Dark plots were actively working against Princess Rhaenyra already, and the more political tools she equipped herself with, the better she’d fare in any future struggle for power.
While you had fully supported the Princess’ recent charitable endeavors, as did King Viserys, others from Court were less than thrilled with the idea. Queen Alicent had voiced some concern, as did Ser Criston Cole. He had deemed it too dangerous.
Even now, the Dornish knight was visibly sweating from across the room. From what the Princess had told you personally, and from what you had heard from others, Ser Criston Cole had experienced many battles, and lived to tell the tale of them all. And yet, in a simple orphanage within King’s Landing, he appeared to be visibly sweating and his eyes shifted across the room madly. His nervousness on behalf of the Princess’ safety had to have occupied his every thought.
Standing beside him, and much more relaxed in composure, was Ser Harwin Strong.
In your time at Court, Ser Harwin Strong had become a member of the City Watch. As a result, he’d become quite familiar with the inner workings of the city, and was comfortable walking amongst the streets. Ser Harwin had proven himself to be an asset for the Princess’ repeated journeys out into the city. Being out in the heart of the city didn’t appear to scare him or cause him any serious cause for concern. But you doubted anything would.
Unlike the panicked eyes of Ser Criston, Ser Harwin’s gentle eyes watched over you and the Princess carefully as you interacted with the children bouncing with excitement around you. You caught him staring at you as you continued to distribute bread, but forced yourself not to think too much of it.
Eventually, it was time to return the Red Keep. You could have sworn you’d never seen Ser Criston look so relieved- though perhaps that would only be true until the Princess’ next escapade concluded. He and Ser Harwin scouted the entrance to the orphanage to make sure there was no sign of danger while you and Princess Rahenyra bid the children goodbye with promises to return in a few weeks.
You made your way out of the dwelling to where the carriage, along with the rest of the guards who had been recruited to comprise the escort, was waiting for the two of you. Princess Rhaenyra climbed in first. You were quick to follow, but were temporarily paused when someone politely offered you an arm for assistance.
It was Ser Harwin.
“My Lady,” he said, bowing his head downwards towards his extended arm.
Despite yourself, you smiled at him as a sign of your gratitude, and hopped up and inside the carriage with his assistance. Once you and Princess Rhaenyra were both seated inside, the carriage was lifted up and off the ground, beginning the return back to the Red Keep. Ser Criston and Ser Harwin, one of them on either side of the carriage, kept vigilant eyes on your surroundings as the entourage moved through the streets. You caught glimpses of the two knights every now and then through the grated windows near the top of the carriage.
“I cannot tell you how relieved I am to be back,” Princess Rhaenyra sighed after a moment. She leant back against the wall of the carriage, and settled down further in her seat.
From your seat across from her, you offered her a small smile. “I recall the feeling of returning home after a long journey very well, Your Grace. I dare say that there is little else that compares.”
Princess Rhaenyra laughed shortly, but you knew she meant no offense. “Though I dare say the feeling of being out of the clutches of power-hungry suitors to be a far better one than that which you have described.”
You stifled a laugh, knowing your involuntary response would be frowned upon by most others at Court. However, none would be more displeased to hear of it than King Viserys, who had through painstakingly great lengths to arrange the tour of the Seven Kingdoms. It was all organized in the hope that his daughter might find a suitor worthy of both her heart and the title of King Consort.
Unfortunately, the tour had proven to be unsuccessful thus far. Princess Rhaenyra had visited the Reach, the Westerlands, and the Riverlands, and not a single notable contender had emerged- at least not in the eyes of Rhaenyra. She had claimed the majority of the hopefuls who had paid her visit to be either far too old, or far too young. She noted that the rest of them had been about as “insufferable” as their power hungry father and grandfathers, who had watched the proceedings with greedy eyes.
You had only received second hand accounts of the events, and largely from the Princess’ sole perspective. While it would have been expected of you to attend Princess Rhaenyra throughout her travels, she had taken her junior ladies in waiting with her for assistance instead. Meanwhile, she had tasked you with what she deemed to be far more important.
Princess Rhaenyra had asked you to stay behind, in King's Landing, to see to her personal affairs. It had been difficult to accept at first, even more so when the Princess went to visit the Reach. But you trusted and respected her opinion that you would be more of use to her elsewhere. While there would always be secretarial duties to attend to, and charitable functions to plan, the main reason the Princess had asked you to stay behind was for reconnaissance purposes.
Foul whispers about the Princess were abound, and they only grew more troubling in her absence. But with you, an obvious ally and devout supporter of the future Queen, roaming around the Red Keep in her stead, the whispers were more timid, and their perpetrators were kept at bay. Any rumors that still managed to reach your ears were immediately reported to Princess Rhaenyra upon her return.
“At least the Riverlands were quite remarkable,” Princess Rhaenyra noted positively, changing the subject. She gazed out the window, as if recalling a scene from her memory. “Even though they are named for such, I was truly amazed at the sheer amount of rivers we came across.”
You smiled at her enthusiasm.
“Have you ever been? To the Riverlands?”
“I’m afraid I have not had the pleasure, Your Grace.”
“We must change that then,” the Princess insisted, giving you a conspiring smile.
“Do you intend to return to the Riverlands soon?” you asked, with sincere interest. “Has one of the suitors finally caught your attention?”
Princess Rhaenyra rolled her eyes, a gesture that most would deem extremely unladylike. However, you knew it to be a common occurrence for her, and had grown quite accustomed to it. Her boldness was appealing, and refreshing amongst the other “highly-refined” ladies at Court. She had thick skin, and never hesitated to speak her mind; you knew that both qualities would serve her well as future Queen.
“Don’t sound too eager, Lady Y/N,” she chided playfully. “Lord Tully was a gracious host, of course. But unfortunately, all of the gentlemen callers were just the same. Too old, too young, or too-”
“-Insufferable,” you finished for her, having heard her same speech twice before.
Princess Rhaenyra laughed. “Precisely.”
In your time in service to the Princess, you had come to be quite close. You considered her a friend, and could only hope that she considered you to be the same. On bolder days, you might have contemplated whether Queen Alicent’s marriage to her father had left the young woman in search of some companionship. If there was a void in that area of her life, you were happy to fill it. You missed her when she was gone on her travels… But perhaps you missed one of her most recent traveling companions even more.
“It was not entirely a waste, I suppose,” Princess Rhaenyra admitted then, her tone shifting once more. “Ser Harwin Strong is far from terrible company.”
Immediately, you glanced at the carriage windows with worry. Was it possible that the very man in question was able to overhear you now? The streets were alive with people, but if Ser Harwin was walking right alongside the carriage…
However, Princess Rhaenyra did not seem deterred. In fact, noticing your apprehension only encouraged her more. She leaned forward in her seat, and said, “We had many great conversations, Ser Harwin and I.”
You forced yourself to smile, torn between the comradery and duty you felt for the princess, and the aching pain you felt in your heart.
“I can tell you all about our conversations, if you’d like,” Princess Rhaenyra offered, clearly, but thankfully, oblivious to your inner struggle. “I believe you’ll find them to be very interesting.”
Normally, you would readily indulge in some harmless gossip with her. But now, you loathed the thought of what she might tell you. “If it is your wish to share such details, Your Grace.”
The Princess finally noticed that something was amiss. She sat back in her seat, and gave you a befuddled look. “Is everything alright, Y/N?” she questioned. “You’ve been very quiet these past few days…”
You’d always prided yourself on your ability to be honest with the Princess. But at that moment, you could not compel yourself to tell her the entire truth. So, you settled for a half-truth, and opted to share with her one of the two things that hung very heavy over your head as of late.
“My father has taken ill,” you admit, lowering your voice so as not to be overheard by anyone outside of the carriage. “I received a letter from my brother just a few days past”
Princess Rhaenyra’s confused expression shifted to one of sympathy.
“The Maesters say he should pull through,” you continued, “But I am worried.”
The Princess had never been anything less than kind to you, but still, you could not have anticipated her next move. She reached across the carriage and placed a soothing hand overtop of your own, which you hadn’t realized you’d wrung together in your concern.
“My father has always described Lord Larris as a strong man,” she assured you full-heartedly. “I trust the gods will see to it that he recovers fully and swiftly.”
You were touched by her gesture. “Thank you, Your Grace.”
“Should you desire to go visit him, I will agree to it at once.”
“I will keep that in mind, Princess.”
Tumblr media
Later that evening, once the Princess had retired, you made your way from her chambers towards your own. Though the hallways of the Red Keep were seldom unoccupied, save the guards keeping watch, they certainly appeared to be that night.
It was unfortunate that the one person you encountered was the one man that, for once, you hoped not to see.
“Ser Harwin.”
The knight paused in his tracks, and bowed his head graciously in greeting. “Lady Y/N.”
“It is a good evening, is it not?”
“It is,” he agreed, smiling softly. “And, seeing as I have been fortunate enough to speak with you, it stands to improve even more.”
Despite your reservations, you blushed.
The relationship between yourself and Ser Harwin Strong, much like your relationship with Princess Rhaenyra, had grown tremendously during your time at Court. And, it had blossomed even as of late. While the Princess had tasked you with seeing to matters in King’s Landing while she went on her tours of Westeros, there were times when you had seen to everything that needed to be done, and as a result, you sought company instead. More often than not, that company had been found in Ser Harwin. Though he had his own duties to see to as a member of the City Watch, he’d never failed to make time for you.
At first, it started off with polite conversation occurring throughout strolls throughout the castle gardens and surrounding grounds. Princess Rhaenyra was correct in her insinuation earlier in the day- despite the bruteish nickname he bore, Ser Harwin was more than a decent conversationalist. The topics were light hearted, but any conversation with him sent your heart racing anyway.
Eventually, you began to share meals together on occasion. Deeper conversations occurred during those times. You’d come to discover that you and Ser Harwin had much more in common than either of you realized. You were both very close to your families. You had each lost your mothers at a young age, but both of you had good relationships with your fathers, and absolutely adored your siblings. He had enamored you with tales of the haunted halls of Harrenhal, and in exchange, you had told him all about the gardens of Highgarden and seasonal festivals that the Reach boasted.
Most recently, the two of you, along with a small party composed of his brother, two sisters, and another few members of the Court, had gone for a few days’ hunt in the Kingswood. You hadn’t lucked out on the hunt like some of the others had, but it was a thrilling experience nonetheless.
The hunt had led Ser Harwin to discover your familiarity with a bow. Though perhaps it was not very lady-like, your father had taught you how to shoot at a young age, deciding that it had the potential to be a unique party trick, at the very least. Your hobby had never been put to use by targeting live animals, but rather, stationary or inanimate objects thrown up into the air. For you, it had never been about the hunt, just the sport of it all.
As soon as you explained as much to Ser Harwin, he requested you to demonstrate your skills. You attempted to politely decline, but upon seeing a disappointed glint in his eyes, you changed your mind. A small crowd had assembled for the showdown between you and Ser Harwin one afternoon. His sisters, surprisingly, cheered for your victory instead of their older brother’s. You found it to be amusing, but oddly touching. Ser Harwin took it in stride, and merely jested about the familial betrayal.
At the end of the shooting rounds, you emerged as the winner, but by only a narrow margin. Ser Harwin could not be faulted; it was well known he was far more talented with a sword than bow, anyway.
Part of you feared Ser Harwin’s reaction, worried that his displeasure would put a strain on your growing relationship. But he had surprised you- as he often did.
“Any boy can denounce a loss as unfair, or even simply blame the wind for a poor shot,” he’d said, grinning ear to ear as he plucked one of your arrows from the bullseye of a target, and handed it back to you gracefully. “It takes a man to be willing to admit defeat to the truly better aim, regardless of who that victor may be.”
Ser Harwin Strong was a flatterer, through and through.
You raised your head to look him fully straight on. Speaking in such close proximity to Ser Harwin always made you recall just how massive he was. Your chin was practically tilted upwards, and his head was bowed down to regard you.
“I apologize that we have not been able to speak much before now,” Ser Harwin said, sounding and looking completely sincere.
“Your apologies are not necessary, My Lord. I am sure you’ve had a great deal of things to attend to, especially after having been gone these past few weeks.”
As was expected, Ser Harwin had traveled with Princess Rhaenyra during her tour of the Riverlands- his home. You had no doubt he had presented himself to her as a potential suitor in Lord Tully’s halls, along with dozens of other vying contenders. As the oldest son of Lord Lyonel, and Heir to Harrenhal, you knew Ser Harwin had every right to offer the Princess his hand. In fact, his failure to do so might have even been considered a slight against the crown- one that his father, the current Master of Laws, would not have likely been able to afford.
But you dreaded the day when news would reach your ears of Ser Harwin Strong’s betrothal. Between his title, strength, and handsomeness, it was a downright wonder why a match had not been made for him yet. You knew it was only a matter of time… and while you had come to cultivate deep feelings for the knight, Princess Rhaenyra would be a far better match for him.
Since their return from the Riverlands, you noticed more and more frequent looks exchanged between the two of them. Knowing looks. It was apparent to you that Princess Rhaenyra and Ser Harwsin held information that you were not privy to. And you had a sinking feeling as to what it was.
An announcement had yet to be made, but Rhaenyra had yet to complete her tour. She was off to the Stormlands the following week. And yet, it was likely all for show. She had to be fair and allow other potential suitors to believe they still stood a chance for her hand- when clearly they did not.
Princess Rhaenyra must have chosen Ser Harwin Strong.
The Realm’s Delight and Breakbones? They made a better pair than one would think. She was a dragon, and he was a fearsome warrior. Her mental ingenuity would only be supported by his brute force of strength. Together, they would take down enemies to her claim one by one. They would want or need for nothing- and neither would their children.
And you, you would resign yourself to your place. Despite being the daughter of Lord Tyrell, you could never hope to compete with the Princess of Westeros for a suitor’s hand. And you never would. You had sworn her your allegiance… your true heart’s desire be damned.
“How were your travels, My Lord?”
“A bit tiring, if I may speak plainly,” he replied carefully. Even you had to admit that he sounded fatigued. “But it was necessary, which has made it easier to bear.”
I suppose winning the heart of the future Queen of Westeros made the trip worthwhile as well, you couldn’t help but think to yourself. “I am glad to hear that, My Lord.”
Ser Harwin reached a hand up to smooth through his brown locks, and he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. You realized with slight shock that he was demonstrating an emotion you had yet to see him display in all the time you’d known him- Ser Harwin was nervous.
“Are you well, Ser Harwin?” you questioned, not caring at all about the concern which was evident in your voice.
Ser Harwin’s gaze softened even more. Your concern had moved him. “All is well, Lady Y/N…” He cleared his throat, before his eyes fell to the floor. “Or, rather, there are no physical ailments burdening me…”
On one hand, you were taken aback by the foreignness of it all. This large man looked as nervous and shy as some of the children you had visited that same morning. On the other hand, it was slightly endearing to learn that a man with the nickname Breakbones was not able to escape the burden of emotions that plagued everyone else. He was just as capable of being human as those two, even three times less his size.
Before you mentally dared to compare him to a gentle giant, Ser Harwin continued.
“I had some… rather enlightening conversations with Princess Rhaenyra during our travels,” he admitted, the nerves he physically displayed betraying his voice ever so slightly as well. “The conversations opened my eyes to a truth that I have denied for quite some time.”
You were surprised to hear that he had not been taken with Princess Rhaenyra upon first sight- most men were. But yet again, Ser Harwin was not like most men.
“I was hoping to discuss this further with you,” Ser Harwin confessed. He looked you straight on, and you couldn’t tear your eyes from his for a moment, even if you had wanted to. “Somewhere more private?”
There was a hopeful glint in his hazel eyes, but the thought of advising him on matters pertaining to keeping the Princess’ interest made you feel suddenly ill.
“Perhaps we could dine together in a few days?” he suggested then, his nerves amplified by your lack of immediate response. “Or, maybe we could take a walk in the gardens?”
You almost caved right then and there. Almost. Ser Harwin knew how much you liked walking through the castle gardens. Even though they paled in comparison to those of Highgarden, they still reminded you of home, and walking along the paths lined with various greenery and floral displays brought you comfort.
“I shall have to see, My Lord,” you replied, even though it practically pained you to not immediately agree. “The Princess has given me leave to visit my father, and I am inclined to take her offer.”
Instead of looking disappointed, Ser Harwin gave you a look of pure guilt.
“My sincerest apologies, My Lady,” he said. “... I may have inadvertently heard about the news of your father. While I did not mean to overhear you, I heard the Princess speak my name this afternoon, while the escort was on the way back to the Red Keep… I feared she required something of me. By the time I realized that I was not needed, I fear I may have heard too much.”
It was nice to have confirmation that the walls of the carriage were not very thick, if only for future reference. Part of you felt embarrassed by the fact that Ser Harwin had overheard your personal matter, but the other part felt relieved that the knowledge that had clouded your mind over the past few days had been made known to one of the few individuals you trusted in King’s Landing. And seeing as Ser Harwin looked and sounded as guilty as he admitted to be, you could not find it in yourself to be cross with him.
“Your apologies are not necessary, My Lord.”
“I wish Lord Tyrell a quick recovery,” he confided to you. “And, should you leave for Highgarden, I wish you safe travels.”
You smiled graciously. “Thank you, Ser Harwin. Should I see him, I shall pass your well wishes along to my father.”
It was Ser Harwin’s turn to smile then. But after a few moments, nervousness seeped into his composure once again. Though he was more soft-spoken than you had once imagined him to be, his next words were said so softly, that had you not been alone in the corridor, with only a few inches between yourselves, you might not have heard them at all.
“Should you decide to leave, Lady Y/N… I fear I will find myself counting down the days until I am in your company once more.”
… This man. This man was going to rip out your heart, tear it into pieces, toss it on the ground, and stomp on it through his impending marriage to the Princess you served dutifully. You knew you had to begin to prepare yourself to suffer through it… But you would also take any attention and warm sentiments that Ser Harwin Strong would grant you in the meantime.
The memories of his kindness that he had shown you would have to be enough to get you through the pain you were sure to endure.
Despite the forwardness of Ser Harwin’s words, what was more alarming was the stark seriousness of his expression. He meant every word of what he had just said, and you believed it fully. Still, you would have to be daft to decry him now just for the sake of proprietary.
“I must admit… I shall miss you too, My Lord.”
Tumblr media
By the end of the following week, Princess Rhaenyra was off on her tour of the Stormlands, with Ser Criston Cole glady serving as one of her escorts.
You had seen Ser Harwin in passing since the night you last spoke, but you did not make any further meaningful conversation with him. Though you missed your talks, you reasoned it was better for your heart to start putting some distance between the two of you now, before his marriage to Princess Rhaenyra would place you worlds apart.
You had seen to all the tasks that Princess Rhaenyra had left you with, and had begun to pack and ready the rest of your things. The plan was to embark on the trek back to Highgarden within a day or two.
But your plan was cut short when a messenger knocked on the door to your chambers. You had a visitor, and they were waiting for you in the courtyard of the Red Keep.
You hurried to the courtyard with moderate speed. It was seldom you had visitors- a cousin had visited once, a few weeks back. But besides that, no one had yet to pay you a visit. Many visitors to the Red Keep had it in mind to speak with many, many others besides the likes of you.
But when you entered the courtyard, you noticed the small entourage that had just arrived. No carriage in sight- just several men and their steeds. But that didn’t mean the visitor was from a place nearby. When your eyes fell upon a lean figure donned in the familiar colors of your House, you beamed brightly, knowing that without a doubt, this visitor was truly one for you.
“Brother?”
Your brother, Derron Tyrell, the Heir to Highgarden, turned to face you upon your call. When he saw you, he grinned. “Sister!”
You crossed the courtyard in large strides and practically leapt into Derron’s arms. Your brother caught you and returned your familial embrace with ease.
“I have missed you!” you told him hurriedly, pulling away to look at him. Even though it had only been a few months, going on a year at most, since you had seen him last, it had felt like far longer. But Derron looked the same as he always had, and it brought you joy to see him in good health.
“And I you, Y/N,” Derron replied, his smile still as bright as your own.
“What in the Seven Hells are you doing here?” you demanded of him in a hushed whisper, your arms falling back down to your sides. Suddenly, a terrible thought entered your mind. “Did I miss a raven? Is father-”
“Father is alive,” your brother was quick to assure you. “And you did not miss a raven, for there was none sent to you.”
You let out a sigh of relief.
Derron looked at his entourage surrounding him. Though you recognized most of them as bannermen with whom he had rode and fought beside for years, you could tell that your brother was wary of their presence at this particular moment.
“Come now, Sister- we have much to discuss.”
Tumblr media
It seemed that someone, although not you, had been expecting Derron Tyrell to arrive in King’s Landing. Chambers had already been set aside for him and his men, and he’d even been given a special audience with the King later in the week to discuss ongoing matters in the Reach.
Later that day, once your brother was settled in his chambers and unpacked, you met with him. You were eager to learn of the cause of his surprise visit, and to privately discuss what he had referred to in the courtyard.
The pair of you were seated at a table on the balcony connected to his chambers. As Derron poured you a glass of wine, before pouring one for himself, you asked him the question that had been on the forefront of your mind since his arrival.
“How is Father?”
“He’s made a turn for the better since I last wrote to you,” Derron answered truthfully, setting the pitcher of wine down. “He was still too weak to travel here, but the Maesters were even more hopeful than before by the time I left.”
That was great news. Perhaps your return visit to the Reach could wait a few more days, and once your brother’s affairs in King’s Landing were settled, you could ride back to Highgarden with him, and be all the more safer for it.
“What brings you here, Derron?” you asked then.
“You may not have received a raven, but Father did,” he replied. “Father received two of them, actually.”
“Who were they from?”
“The first was from Princess Rhaenyra herself.”
That was extremely surprising. Had you done something to upset the Princess? She seemed alright when she bade you goodbye before departing for the Stormlands… but perhaps she was attempting to save face in front of those around her. Had she written to your father and asked you to be removed from her service?
“I can see your mind racing,” your brother observed with a smirk. “You needn’t worry, Y/N. Princess Rhaenyra simply wished him a swift recovery, and invited him to King’s Landing to visit with King Viserys and to discuss matters of the Reach as soon as he was able to travel once more. I wish I had the letter to show you, but I believe father kept that for himself- the Princess complimented you greatly. I wish you could have seen the smile on his face as he read her words.”
The thought of your father’s smile due to humbling praises from Princess Rhaenyra brought a smile to your own face. You missed him. You missed home. But the visit with Derron would have to be enough, until a more suitable opportunity to return to Highgarden would appear.
“You mean to meet with the King later this week?” you asked, slightly confused. “Have you traveled here on Father’s behalf, then? Was there a matter so urgent that could not wait until he was able to travel here himself?”
“Yes… and no,” Derron. “All is as well as it can be in the Reach; the harvest has been as bountiful as we suspected it would be. But there was another, more pressing matter that required one of us to see to it immediately. Father decided it would be good practice for me to come and speak with the King about business while I was already in King’s Landing dealing with this other matter.”
The other matter must have been extremely pressing, if it had compelled your father to send Derron all the way to King’s Landing without so much as a raven’s notice. “Pray tell- what is this urgent matter you speak of?”
“That would involve the second raven Father received,” Derron pivoted. “Fortunately, I do have that letter in my possession. We both thought it might be best for you to see it for yourself.”
Your brother withdrew a rolled up piece of parchment from his coat, and handed it over to you. You took it with great intrigue, and immediately set about reading the tiny scrawlings littering the page.
“To Lord Larris Tyrell of Highgarden, Defender of the Marshes, Lord Paramount of the Reach, and Warden of the South:
I hope you are able to overlook my forwardness. I, Ser Harwin Strong, son of Lord Lyonnel Strong of Harrenhal, write to you regarding a most urgent matter of the mind and heart…”
You tore your eyes away from the page, and looked back up at your brother. The reassuring look on his face confirmed what you had suspected- your eyes were not deceiving you.
Ser Harwin had written to your father directly.
But what on earth for?!
“We received the raven with this message just a few days before I set out for King’s Landing. But I assure you, Father and I have discussed the contents of this letter at great length.”
You were almost too afraid to ask, but you found the courage to do so anyway. “What does this letter have to do with your visit?”
“If you would continue reading on, you shall see for yourself,” Derron encouraged you. “There are important conversations to be had with Ser Harwin Strong… as well as his father, Lord Lyonel. Such matters are far more appropriate to address in person, rather than by letter.”
Your eyes fell once more down to the parchment in your hands. “What matters could possibly require such attention?”
“... I can tell by your reaction that you have not spoken with Ser Harwin as of late,” your brother deduced. Didn’t last week count? “But that is of no matter. Now that I am here, we can all address it. Please, Y/N. Keep reading.”
“...
I would like to start by wishing you the quickest of recoveries.
I hope this letter reaches you in due time- I intend to discuss this subject with Lady Y/N in depth as soon as she allows me, and as soon as I muster up the courage to do so. I believe she is the one who deserves to learn of this matter first, and so that she may pass her judgment on it. But, on the advice of my father, out of respect for your great House, and out of respect to my own, I thought it wise to at least enlighten you about my intentions.
I apologize- I have never had the reputation for being a particularly eloquent man. But for this letter, I shall to be just that. I have only recently returned to King’s Landing from escorting Her Grace, the Princess Rhaenyra to my home, the Riverlands. Despite the tiredness I feel, the journey opened my eyes to a truth that I feel drawn to act upon at once.
My Lord, I have had the immense pleasure of sharing company with Lady Y/N since the Princess Rhaenyra recruited her to be of her service some time ago. Although I am sure you are aware, Lady Y/N is a great compliment to your house. Her kindness and charms are extended warmly to all, from the royal family to the poor of King’s Landing. Her wit entertains all who are blessed with her conversation, and her tenacity to succeed in an environment without the support of her family, who she clearly loves so dearly, has been nothing short of inspiring- even to a ‘brute’ such as myself.
All of this, when combined with the mere passage of time, and counsel from Princess Rhaenyra herself throughout our recent travels, has led to me to face one conclusion that I have been blind to for some time.
I have become completely captivated by Lady Y/N.
 …”
Derron’s next words nearly fell upon deaf ears as you spaced out, torn between continuing your enthralled reading of the letter in your hands, and seeking clarification to the many questions that had been raised by it.
“It would seem,” your brother said wistfully, “That I am here to discuss the terms of your courtship, and inevitable betrothal, to Ser Harwin Strong.”
You were astonished.
“But before I can do that, I must know… Is this what you truly want?”

𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬
Paring: Harwin Strong × reader
Warnings: None
3.05
Sniffling, you pull a fur blanket further around your shoulders to keep warm as you slump further into the massive four-poster bed that dominates the room, it's dark wood carved into dragons, which matched the elaborate designs that declared the room. The walls are adorned with intricate tapestries depicting scenes from Targaryen history, with hints of different magical creatures woven into the design.
“No.”
“Vaella…”
“I forbid it,” you protest, your hand barely wrapping around Harwin’s wrist when you hold onto him. “You cannot leave me, our children, and go to Harrenhal.”
He lowers his head. “You would forbid me from escorting my father home?”
“If I must,” you whisper. “I would have you locked away in a tower if I thought it would keep you safe.”
“You have seen my father; he’s not a well-mannered man, and if the rumors about my brother are true, then he’s not safe in the keep. He needs to go home and be tended to by the maesters there.”
It might have been a nightmare all those years ago instead of a dragon dream, but you weren’t willing to risk your husband's life by finding out. “I saw you die in a vision! I saw Harrenhal burn to the ground with you inside it. I am begging you, Harwin, to not make the horror of losing you a reality for me. I wouldn’t be able to bear it, nor would our children.”
His eyes are glassy with unshed tears. “And what of my father?”
“The maester on Dragonstone can attend to him. You’ve seen firsthand how skilled Maester Gerardys is. I trust him not only to take care of us but also of our children, my sister, and the king. I promise he will do the best he can for your father.” Seeing his hands tremble, you hold onto them. “Please, just bring your father to Dragonstone; if he wishes to be with his wife, then invite your stepmother and sisters as well.”
“It’s not my decision to make.” He says it more firmly. “My father says he wants to go home, and I won’t stand in his way.”
Your eyes sting as fresh tears fall from them. Harwin would never leave his family unless he deemed it absolutely necessary, but it didn’t ease the pain of him going. You never thought you'd have to say goodbye to the one person who felt like home to you.
“Mama?”
Being so lost in your thoughts, you never heard Vaegon entering the room. When he climbs into the bed beside you, you brush his thick hair, which was growing rather long, out of his eyes. “Why aren’t you sleeping, my sweet?”
He says nothing.
Sensing his uncertainty, you put your arm around him, kissing the top of his head. Out of all your children, Vaegon was the least likely to come up with a problem when he usually admits to dealing with things himself. “Whatever is wrong, you can tell me.”
“Promise you won’t get mad.”
“I promise,” you smile sadly at him, “but I need to know what is keeping my son up at night.”
Nervously, he says, “It’s this place.”
“Kings landing?”
“The people here aren’t as nice. I see the way the lords and ladies look at me and my brother. The queen and her children make fun of us for not looking like Targaryen or Lannister.” He bends his legs and rests his head against his knees, looking up at you. “Is Harwin Strong my real father?”
“You are so loved; always remember that.” You kiss his forehead again as tears swell in your eyes again. “Thomas Lannister being your father keeps you and Aerion safe. Do you understand?”
He nods.
It was clear that although Vaegon had inherited your temper and stubbornness, he had his father's kind-hearted nature and understanding. “Can you tell me how you and my father got together?”
It was almost frightening how smart and observant your son was for still being so young. “I will one day, my sweet, I promise, but not tonight. We need to rest before returning home tomorrow.”
Soon as it was an appropriate time, you visited your father to say goodbye with the promise of returning to visit him soon on dragon back along with Rhaenyra. When you leave his chambers, you intend to go straight to the gods wood, where your sister is waiting with the children and Ser Laenor to join them; however, you are stopped in the hallway before you make it outside.
“I hope you don’t mind my saying this, but you are a positively glowing princess. Being with a child agrees with you.”
Goosebumps spread across your body at the compliment. Unbidden tears had been coming to your eyes since Harwin left, but you forced yourself to be polite and smile at the clubfoot.
A creepy grin spreads across Lary's face as he leans against his cane, with an intense look on his face. “I assume my niece hasn’t accompanied you to visit her grandsire this morning.”
“You would be correct, Lord Larys; the princess was breaking fast when I left.”
“That’s a pity. I overheard Elinda Massey, your sister’s lady-in-waiting, saying farewell to some of the handmaids. I can only assume you are leaving for Dragonstone today, and the princess is accompanying you.”
You didn’t want to give him any further information as needed, plus being alone with him was bringing on a wave of nausea. “Yes, I asked Princess Rhaenyra to come and stay, at least until my baby is born.”
“That seems like a wise decision. I have heard pregnancy can be a woman’s loneliest time.”
Continuing to fake a smile, you say, “I better be going, my Lord; I don’t want to keep the children waiting. I shall see you upon my return.”
As you walk by him, Larys smugly asks, “I heard my father and brother left to return to my family home last night; is that true?”
“Yes, they left during the night since your father was feeling unwell.”
“Oh, I suspect they didn’t want to bother me during the night by saying goodbye; not to worry. Since they should be arriving by nightfall tonight, I shall expect to receive a raven from them tomorrow.”
The walk to the entrance of the castle was mainly in silence, aside from Luke expressing how excited he was that the island would be his new home. You had grown fond of the salty air of Dragonstone, which smells of smoke and brimstone, and usually enjoyed the long walk across the bridge, but it always made you nervous to see children on it.
Aerion holds your hand with a glum expression. Ada walks in front of you with Vaegon and Jace on either side of her, holding their hands. Luke walks with his father while Rhaenyra is carrying her babe.
Sensing your distance, your sister slows her pace. “Did you find our brother before we left?”
“No, I’m ashamed to admit I got rather distracted, but I intend to send him a raven as soon as the children are settled. I want Aegon to know he is always welcome.”
“Perhaps he comes out, sweet sister, and other brothers will be more inclined to as well.”
Looking over his shoulder, Vaegon frowns at you. He couldn’t comprehend why you wanted to have a relationship with your siblings after witnessing how badly Alicent, Otto, and Criston treated one side of your family, but you had faith that the bad blood wouldn’t extend to the younger generation of House Targaryen.
You walk beneath the heavy red doors entering the great hall, which are set in the mouth, and are shocked to see fresh food and drink already being placed on the high table on the raised platform.
“Father!”
Ada lets go of her brother and cousin's grip and runs towards Harwin, whom you had failed to notice standing on the opposite side of the room. He lifts Ada up with ease and kisses her cheek. “Have you been good for your mother?”
“My love,” you whisper, your heart racing as you cross the room to him.
Ada nods. “Yes, and I held Joffrey on the boat.”
“Did you now?” He smiles wildly before placing her back on the ground. “Now, go with your brothers to wash up before we eat.”
When your daughter skips off happily, Harwin wraps his arms around you, holding you as close as your bump would allow. His eyes look heavier than normal, and his skin looks like porcelain. He licks at his dry lips. “We got as far as a tavern in Rosby when I finally convinced my father to come to Dragonstone.”
“Where is Ser Lyonel?”
“He was resting, but I suspect he will be down shortly. We had planned for the meal to be ready by the time you arrived.”
“No,” he says quietly. “But the thought of you being upset is worse than him being mad. I wanted to go back to the keep first, but my father was vomiting a lot and didn’t want to extend the journey further than needed.”
You squeeze his arm and say, “I’m just glad we are all home and safe.”
Soon as the sun rose the following day, you spoke with Maester Gerardys privately. Both Harwin and Rhaenyra were stressed from events that had taken place the last few days, and you didn’t want to worry them that you had been feeling rather poorly since the start of this pregnancy. The constant nausea, vomiting, and indigestion were one thing, but the intense back pain was becoming concerning.
However, after speaking with the maester, you walk back to your bed chamber filled with relief. Maester Gerardys had no concerns regarding your baby and even suggested you might be carrying twins again.
“Good morning, princess.”
“Good morning, Ser Qarl.” You smile as the knight bows his head before continuing along the hallways.
Ser Qarl Correy had fought during the battle of the Stepstones, and your cousin Laenor is your current lover. Rhaenyra had insisted that Laenor take him to Dragonstone as well, so that her husband wouldn’t be so lonely.
You enter your chambers, being careful not to make too much noise in case Harwin was still asleep, but you notice his back as you near the sitting area. You remove your overcoat and excitedly approach him. “My love, I’ve... oh, forgive me, Lord Lyonel. I didn’t realize you would be joining us this morning.”
Seeing the mortification on your face, your lady brings you a thicker robe, which covers you more appropriately since you only had a nightgown. You were surprised to see his father so early in the morning, especially since Harwin would usually bring your daughter and sons to break fast as soon as he woke.
“Thank you,” you say quietly. “Are the children awake?”
“No princess; Ser Harwin has asked me to let princes and princesses sleep in,” she whispers.
You offer her a small smile before returning to your husband and father-in-law. Now that you weren’t so startled, you could see how distressed they both looked. Lord Lyonel was sitting with his head in his hands, and Harwin seemed utterly lost as he stared ahead with bloodshot eyes.
“Harwin, what’s going on?”
Harwin clears his throat, but his voice is still shaky as he speaks. “A raven arrived from Harrenhal this morning; there was a fire last night. My sisters and stepmother are dead.”

Mine to take (I am his and he is mine pt. 2)
Tumblr media
Summary: While Harwin was set on treating his new wife right after their wedding, she learns a little too quickly, exhausting even a patient man’s capabilities.
Notes: my god I love writing harwin smut so much. While this is a sequel to I am his, and he is mine it can also be read as a standalone
Warnings: slight d/s dynamics, dirty talk, reader knows exactly what they’re doing, choking/spanking, frisky behaviours, oral (m!receiving), softy Harwin loves aftercare
Masterlist | Part 1 | based on this request | requests are OPEN!
When Harwin returns to your chambers, he’s exhausted from City Watch patrol and all he wants is to fall into bed with his pretty wife – only that you’re not there.
He pauses at the emptiness of the bed. Usually, you’re already in your nightclothes at this time, asleep with a book in hand and it’s left to Harwin to carefully lie you down and cover you with a blanket.
Instead, the bed is empty. He searches through your rooms, in your newly deemed library, more books in shelves and piling on the floor, with notes scattered between them, but that too, is empty. Next, he looks in the nursery your father gifted to you prematurely, only to be disappointed by the sight of another empty room.
With an exasperated sigh, Harwin heads out of your chambers and towards the only other place you could be: the royal library.
He’s been here only a few times, most of them after he’s been married, and always to look for his wife. And indeed, you’re in the library as well. Curled up in a far corner, with a book in hand and-
Is that his shirt?
As he comes closer, Harwin can see that you’re wearing his shirt and simple linen pants. Only that his shirt is massive and gives everyone a perfect view of your cleavage.
“My love.” He greets you, leaning against the wall across from you.
“Harwin.” you smile up at him, almost doe-eyed.
“What are you reading that forced you out of our chambers?” he asked
“A book about Sothoryos. They have monsters so venomous they can kill a hundred men.” You replied, lifting the book up to emphasize the chain connected to it.
“And you did that… in my shirt?” Harwin asked.
“I hope you don’t mind. I couldn’t exactly walk around in nightclothes, but I did not want to wake my maid-in-waiting to dress me this late. They’re quite comfortable.”
“Do you want to retire for the night?” Harwin offered, and you nodded, standing up to put the book away. Harwin watched as the shirt fell even lower, revealing the tops of your breasts.
Unaware of the predicament you were putting him in, you kissed him on the cheek, before hooking your arm in his. You made your way towards the exit of the library, but before you could step into the hallways of the Red Keep, Harwin put his gold cloak over your shoulders, trying to tie it in front of your breasts.
“What’s wrong?” you asked.
“Your shirt is- it’s quite revealing.” Harwin answered.
“Ah.” You replied, pulling the cloak closed and making your way toards your chambers.
“Ah?” Harwin asked after a few minutes.
“I didn’t realise.” You said. Harwin glanced down at you, the way you were practically skittering towards your chambers.
“Was Sothoryos that interesting?” he asked.
“You couldn’t drag me there for anything in the world, but it’s fun to read about.”
“I’d rather drag you somewhere else.” He mumbled, too quiet for you to hear.
The Red Keep seemed swept empty, the two of you only passing a few guards and Lord Beesbury, who tottered past you without a care in the world. But Harwin did not miss the glances the guards threw at his wife.
It wasn’t your clothes, or your cleavage, but simply that you were pretty enough to catch any man’s eye, and those in the Red Keep often had no manners.
“They’re staring at you.” Harwin said through gritted teeth.
“Is that so?” you asked, and Harwin saw you fight the devious smile worming itself onto your lips. Slowly, he began to realise what was going on.
“Was this your intention?”
“No.” you replied, but your tone was so uneven that he highly doubted it.
“It was.” He said, his mouth almost falling open in shock. “My innocent lady wife, trying to get me jealous. Why?”
“I wasn’t trying anything.” You said, but the smirk on your face was all-telling. Harwin shook his head, trying his best to ignore the fact that the guards walking past were still staring, but when one of them turned to look at your ass after he’d passed you, something in Harwin snapped.
Quickly, he pulled you into an alcove, away from the main hallway, staring down at you with dark eyes.
“Why?” Harwin tried again, but you only smiled at him giving him no answer. Instead, you surged up, kissing him roughly. Harwin gave in, melting against your lips after such a long day. He almost gave a groan when you nipped his lower lip. Your hands were exactly where he liked them to be, lightly tugging at his hair.
Frustrated, he flipped you around, careful not to smack you against the wall, but still pressing you against the cool stone. His giant hands quickly dwarfed yours as he lowered himself down to your ear.
“Are you going to give me an answer or must I get it out of you myself?” he asked. Harwin wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to let this side of him come out so soon, if she’d like it, or withdraw again, terrified, but right now he needed this.
Instead of answering him, you gave him a cheeky smile, letting your ass brush against his crotch, where he was already hard.
So he flipped you back around, only to be met with the sight of your lust-blown pupils and heaving chest, revealed to him since his golden cloak had fallen of your shoulders.
“You’ve got a terrible lack of respect.” He warned.
“Is that so?” you jabbed.
“I am Lord Commander of the City Watch, heir to Harrenhal and your Lord Husband, so yes.”
“I didn’t know you took yourself so seriously.”
“You’re walking a dangerous line here.”
“Bite me.” You said, your smile still much too bright to his liking. Angrily, he hoisted you up over his shoulder, carrying you the rest of the way to your chambers. He didn’t care about the looks he got from the last pair of guards, only that their eyes wandered up to your ass on his shoulder too quickly.
When you made it to their chambers, Harwin kicked the door closed behind him, sitting you down on the edge of the bed.
The smug smile on your face made him feel murderous, and at the same time, he was impressed by the fact that you had grown this bold so quickly.
“How did you get this idea?”
“Believe it or not, I am in forced proximity to the other ladies of the court. I hear them talk about their affairs and such.”
“So you want to have an affair? Is that it?” Harwin hissed.
“No. Only taking their advice.”
“For what?”
“Getting ravished.” You said.
An idea began to form in Harwin’s head at your words. Two could play at this game. So he crossed the distance between the two of you, capturing your lips in a heated kiss, but instead of lying you down on the bed as he normally did, he picked you up, carrying you towards a wall.
Your legs were hooked tightly around his waist, stone digging into your back as he grabbed your ass in his palms.
“You want to get ravished, hmm?” he whispered in your ear, and you nodded, frantically trying to reach his neck to place kisses there, but he pulled away with a chuckle.
“Say it.” He demanded.
“Please. Please fuck me, husband.” You whispered breathlessly.
“My wife. What would people say if they saw you now, begging like a common whore.” Harwin replied. “Get on your knees.”
“What?” you stuttered, and Harwin reveled in your innocence.
“You’re a smart girl. Do what I did for you.” He commanded. You blushed furiously in response.
“I am-“ you began, but Harwin interrupted you.
“I don’t give a fuck what you are. You certainly didn’t.”
Slowly, you sank down to your knees, watching Harwin as he opened his breeches and took out his cock, pumping leisurely.
“Open up, my love.” He commanded. His hands threaded through your hair, he guided you, and you quickly found a rhythm, trying to apply what you had heard about… this.
You couldn’t see him well, but you could hear him, groaning praises to you.
“You look so pretty like that, on your knees for me.” He said, hips bucking upward as his head fell back.
After a while, he grabbed your hair in his hands, carefully tugging at it and pulling you upwards. You stood on wobbly knees, letting him wipe the spit out of the corner of your mouth.
With no qualms about it, Harwin kissed you, leading you to the bed a little gentler than before.
His hand wandered down your body, going between your legs.
“You’re soaked for me love. All that from sucking my cock?” he demanded.
“Please.” You replied. Harwin wanted to chuckle to himself. You were a mess, blushing furiously but obviously hoping for him.
He took his time with your clothes, letting his hands trail so slowly he could see the frustration form in your eyes. Slowly, he palmed your breasts, licking your nipples until they grew hard, before moving on to your cunt.
Harwin draws teasing you out, letting his beard barely scratch you clit, touching you everywhere except where you need him to be. When you try to push him down, he grabs your hand, holding it down on the mattress.
“You want to be fucked?” he asked again, and you nodded enthusiastically, brows furrowing to confusion as he leaned back against the cushions.
“Get on top.” He commanded.
Hesitantly, you moved to hover over him, and Harwin helped you guide himself into you. As you sank down on his dick, his hands found your hips, steadying you carefully.
“Good?” he asked, his caring side taking over. Yes, he was frustrated, but he would never risk hurting you.
“Yeah.” You replied. With his hands guiding you, you rolled your hips, causing him to hit that spot inside you.
“Take your pleasure.” He commanded. You moved around for a bit, trying to figure out what felt right, and when you did, you started moving more quickly.
You felt his eyes burn into you, never once leaving your form. When Harwin gave you a smirk, you couldn’t help but comment.
“What?” you snapped.
“Look at you, bouncing on my cock.”
“I-“ you began, freezing where you were. And then, his hand was on your neck. Not quite choking, but still dangerously close to it.
“You like that?” Harwin asked. You nodded in response, and he dared to squeeze a little tighter.
“Keep going.” He commanded, and you continued to move, feeling the tension build up in your belly. You let yourself be loud, not caring how much any guards outside might hear, only caring about the high you were chasing.
Harwin was still watching you, and when he saw you get close, he began bucking up into you, helping you along until you came around his cock, your cunt desperately clenching for more.
You practically collapsed on top of him, his cock still inside you.
“You didn’t get your release.” You murmured.
“It’s fine.” He said, his hands wandering to your hips to lift you off.
“No, keep going. I’m not sure if I can move though.” You replied.
Harwin nodded, positioning your head onto his chest. You felt him thrusting into you, his hips slapping against your ass as you bounced upwards, your head in the crook of his shoulders. Not soon after, his thrusts grew sloppy.
Wanting him to feel as good as you, you did your best to ride him for the last part of it. You felt a sense of pride as his head tipped back, giant hands practically bruising your hips with his grip until you felt him spill inside you.
Completely exhausted, you rolled off of him, lying down next to him. You stayed like that for a while, until he opened his eyes again with a smile on his face.
“I suppose you should disrespect me more often.” He said.
“Perhaps.” You replied, spreading out on the bed like a lazy cat. When Harwin got up, you followed his movements shamelessly, staring at his back like there was no tomorrow.
Suddenly, you heard him chuckle.
“What is it?” you asked.
“You moved the bed.” He replied.
“The power you possess over me.” You sighed, letting him push the bed back into place. He returned with towel, cloth and a jug of wine.
Carefully, Harwin wiped you down, before he dried off your back. You hadn’t noticed yourself sweat, but this felt like a treat anyway.
When he was done, he handed you a glass of wine.
“How was your day?” you asked.
“Tiring. There’s a group of children running around in Flea Bottom, cutting the purses of the people.”
“Did you catch them?”
“Actually, I let them go.” He admitted. “There’s no sense in chopping off the hands of hungry children. They’ll only grow to resent the king. Gave them an earful about stealing though.”
“That’s kind of you.”
“What about you?” Harwin asked. As you moved behind him to work out the tenseness in his shoulders, you thought for a moment.
“Grand Maester Orwyle and I got into a small argument over whether or not I should be in the royal library all the time, and of course, I read about Sothoryos. I also visited the stables, to pick a horse so that I can accompany you riding sometime.”
“Why did you argue with the Grand Maester?” Harwin asked. “Is the library not open to everyone?”
“It is, but he finds that I take up too much space. Even though the books I read are mostly dusted over.” You complain.
“I’ll have a word with him tomorrow.” Harwin decided.
“You mustn’t.”
“I must. Otherwise, you’ll be caught stealing from the library soon.” He joked. Carefully, he turned around to you, grabbing you by the waist and setting you down in front of him.
You wanted to protest, but he had already begun working out the kinks in your own neck.
“You do need better posture if you want to continue reading though.” Harwin said.
“And they more comfortable seating arrangements.” You replied.
“I’d like to go riding with you.” Harwin interjected. “It can be fun, if done properly.”
“I see that now.” You joked. Harwin rolled his eyes at that, lifting up the covers next to him and allowing you to cuddle into his arms.
“I’m so glad I married you.” You said, missing the smile on his face at your words. Yes, married life was far better than you had thought, even if you would have to pull your lord husband off of the Grand Maester tomorrow.

𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 [𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠]
pairing: ser harwin strong x fem!reader
summary: harwin takes you hunting and you get squeamish
content warnings: talks of killing, harwin kills a deer, making out, god this man i love him so much
request: Hi, can I make a request for Ser Harwin where he takes the reader hunting and she's all confident that she'll get the biggest animal until she actually has to kill it. Maybe she can be squeamish and he's helps her out. Then when they are on their way back he's all cocky and tells her she's all talk. I can just picture his smirk. Thanks
i have another request for him that i’m starting v soon!!!! (and it’s smut😩) and as always, likes and most importantly reblogs are appreciated
Tumblr media
“i’m going to get this one,” you whisper as you draw your bow and arrow taut. the stag stands tall and broad, so far unaware of your presence and your intentions.
“go ahead,” harwin laughs in that rasping voice, so close that it sends shivers cascading down your whole body. you hesitate as the creature walks, admiring the way it moves with such grace and power, the kindness and peace in its eyes that you’re about to destroy with a single movement. his rough hand, calloused from years of fighting, scrubs up and down your clothed arm, rumpling the soft material. “you can do it,” he murmurs.
your arm falters as you bring the weapon back down. there’s a pit of nausea in your stomach that only grows the longer you think about murdering this innocent animal. you shake your head. “i can’t. i can’t do it.”
“alright.” he kisses your temple before moving from his position behind you and - swift and quiet as a feline despite his hulking presence - fires one arrow straight through its head. you screw your eyes shut and turn away as its body crumples and hits the ground with a dull thud — you never realised you were so squeamish. he laughs, this deep bellowing sound that carries across the woods for miles and your brows knit and furrow, lips pushed together.
“come on,” he says. “help me lift this and we’ll start the journey back to the keep.”
your trip back is quiet, the only sound the crunch of the leaves and the muted footfalls of the horses’ hooves against the forest floor. you roll your eyes as soon as harwin glances your way, already preparing yourself for the inevitable teasing.
“you’re all talk,” he taunts. “i thought you were eager to kill it. it’s all you talked about!”
you huff. “i felt sorry for it!” the smirk that cracks his face forces upon you the overwhelming urge to smack him. “you’re a smug bastard, you know that?”
“and you love me regardless,” he goads; you know he’s right.
once you’ve dismounted the horses and you’re back on solid ground, he holds his arms out for you.
“come here, sweet girl.”
you oblige despite your irritation; he knows how to get under your skin every time without fail. once you’re in his arms, pressed against the cool metal of his armour, he kisses your forehead.
“i love you even if you’re terrible at hunting.”
you scrunch your nose and squirm.
“you’re awfully mean.” your bottom lip protrudes until you’re pouting at him and he presses his own lips to the soft flesh, one textured hand on your jaw, rough as sandpaper but tender and doting as though you’re delicate.
“shh.” he quiets you instantly, his tongue slipping out to part your lips for him as his beard scratches against your baby soft cheek. his body crowds you without moving, so massive and powerful that you submit to him without argument— you crave his dominance, his strength. you whine as he pulls away, chasing him with your whole body. he smiles. “shall we continue this inside, my dearest?”

A thunderous sound woke you up from your peaceful slumber. By looking around in the darkness of your chambers, you could tell something was wrong; a strange atmosphere appeared in the air, something odd that brought an inexplicable chill in your spine. You arose from your bed, walking barefooted towards the nearest window and peeking outside - the cold wind that entered the room sent shivers through your body, causing goosebumps to arise across your skin. It had to be the hour of the Wolf, you could barely see a thing.
There was a group of guards marching towards the entrance of the Red Keep; you heard them bellow, but you were not able to make sense of their words. They ran from one side to another, picking up their swords and shields, giving commands to one another. You grew curious to know the reason behind such a fuss and the answer came quicker than you expected. While you were observing a knight standing beside the arsenal and keeping guard on the perimeter, another man silently approached him- wearing all black, camouflaging in the darkness of the night.
A small part of you told you to look away, but you stood there - eyes fixed on the guard. Curiosity killed the cat.
Out of the blue, the black-clad specter reached for the knight, and before you could discern what the man had done to him, you saw red flooding out under the moonlight - staining his prestigious white cloak. You froze in your place as you saw the guard falling to his knees before his entire body reached the dirt on the floor. The air escaped from your lungs as you witnessed such a gruesome scene, feeling your heart beating frantically in reaction.
It only became worse once the unknown man looked up, right at your window. Right at you, steely eyes glinting.
Immediately, you took a few steps back - your hand covering your mouth and muffling a squeal as soon as you realized what had happened. Chills traveled around your body, and before you realized, your cheeks were soaking with tears of horror and fear. It was suddenly hard to breathe, your chest feeling heavy and tight. That man saw you, he would certainly come after you now.
Your feet kept moving, eyes fixed in the window as you walked backwards, as far as possible from that frightening scene. In that moment, you felt your back hit something cold and hard before two strong arms wrapped around your body and squeezed you between them. You yelped, screaming hysterically with the thought that it will be your turn now - squirming desperately as you tried to be freed from the arms of the person who was holding you down.
Then you heard his voice.
“Princess, it's me!” The familiar voice exclaimed, loosening the grip around your body and allowing you to turn around to see him. He removed his helmet, throwing it onto the floor. “It's me, my sweet princess,” he repeated, this time more calm and with a soothing tone in his timbre. He placed his big, calloused hand on your cheek.
The relief washed over you as you saw your beautiful knight in shining armor standing before you, tense shoulders instantly relaxing as you locked your lilac eyes with his deep brown ones. His gaze was soft, but it still showed signs of his preoccupation for you. His thumb brushed against your skin, wiping the tears that had fallen down your face. You leaned towards his touch and he sighed.
“You're safe with me,” Ser Harwin murmured. “Everything will be okay…” His impressive frame towered over your smaller one; you had to look up at him as your hand wrapped around his wrist.
Harwin was taken aback once he felt your trembling arms wrapping around his armor. You hung from his neck as he picked you up from the floor. One of his hands held your waist, while the other went to your nape - keeping you close to him. The coldness of the metal was pressing against your cheek, and you closed your eyes - silently crying against his shoulder. Your heart fluttered inside your chest once he tightened his grip around your body; you felt safe in his arms.
“Shh… it's fine,” he cooed against your ear. His lips pressed against your head. “No one will hurt you if I'm with you, princess. No one will harm you.”
“What happened? What's going on?” you asked between sobs.
“Some miscreants managed to go through the gates, they're now being secured in the black cells. They’re trying to find those who are inside the Keep,” he explained while he slowly put you back on your feet - a soft whine involuntarily left your lips once you stopped feeling his warmth. “I've come as soon as I heard.”
“Is my family safe? My mother, my siblings? Rhaenyra and the children?”
“They are all being guarded by members of the king's guard,” Harwin replied.
You nodded before you took a look around his face, as if you were trying to search for some wound - just in case he needed your help. “Are you hurt?” A little smile appeared on his handsome face once he noticed your worry. “Did- did they hurt you?”
“No,” he answered. “And you shall not worry about me, princess…”
You pressed your lips in a thin line before murmuring - a bit embarrassed, “you know I'll always worry about you.”
Harwin paused to take a look at you; his heart beating fast with the mere sight of you, feeling like a green boy whenever you were around, staring up at him with those pretty, sparkling eyes of yours. So beautiful, so precious. It was no secret between you two that your feelings had flourished like roses in Spring. Yet, even when the deep affections were obviously mutual, both of you were scared to act on it. It was forbidden, and - somehow - that made it even more tempting for both. How scandalous, King Viserys daughter has the Hand’s son as a paramour.
“Mayhaps your royal highness should go back to sleep,” Harwin suggested. “On the morrow all this would be just a faint memory.”
“I don't think I will be able to do it,” you told him, taking a step back and wiping your tears away. “I lost all my sleep with what I've just seen…it was awful, terrible…”
Harwin approached you again as he noticed your despair - your voice breaking in the middle of your words and your eyes glistening once again by a layer of new tears. He cupped your face, brushing his thumbs against your cheeks.
“It's okay, my sweet angel,” he murmured, pressing his forehead against yours - you closed your eyes. His closeness made your heart beat faster, and the syrupy way the name that came out of his plump lips almost caused you to sigh. “Come here, let's sit down for a second, alright?” Harwin motioned.
Obediently, you grabbed his hand as he guided you through your room, finding a comfortable spot in the large settee right in the middle of your chambers. Once Harwin turned around, he finally noticed what you were wearing; a thin see through nightgown. His eyebrows twitched and mouth went dry. He knew that the right thing was to look away, give the privacy you needed - yet he couldn't manage to take his eyes off of you, his lovely princess. He followed a path from your face, going downwards towards your neck and collarbones - he even imagined how they would look with small marks from his lips printed on them. He continued shamelessly eyeing you, finding your breasts; he felt his throat getting dry once he noticed your pebbled nipples peeking through the white fabric of your nightgown. His mouth watered, resisting the urge to think how they would feel against his tongue. Unexpectedly, he felt his pants getting tighter.
That's when he knew that enough was enough. You were a princess; his princess. You deserve the utmost respect. He couldn't allow himself to think of you in that way, especially on a night like this one.
Harwin cleared his throat, sitting down on the couch and tapping the empty spot by his side - once again, you obeyed. Your body curled by his side, clinging into his armor, laying your head on his chest as his arm went around your shoulder to keep you close. You squirmed a bit, trying to make sense of the feeling between your legs - the one that grew more intense once you noticed the desire on his eyes.
“Close your eyes, try to rest. I'll be here when you wake up,” he promised.
You nodded, making yourself comfortable and doing what he told you to do - and you really tried, yet it seemed impossible for you to take that horrid image off your mind. Your whole body would tremble with the thought of being murdered in the same way. Each time you would close your eyes, that was all you could see. It was torturous, a bone chilling fear that didn't let you rest.
That scarlet blood seeping down white cloth played over and over again in your racing mind.
Before you noticed, you were sobbing again. Harwin, chivalrous as always, grabbed your quivering body and placed you on his lap, rocking your body from side to side as a desperate attempt to try and calm you down. It wounded him to see you like this, so scared and defenseless - he even wondered what he could do to make your anguish go away.
“He saw me… he'll come and try to- to kill me!” you whined - your lower lip shaking uncontrollably. “I cannot- I cannot stop thinking about it all.”
Growing up as a princess left you inside a bubble. Behind the thick walls of the castle you never had to watch or see something as such - the evilness of people. Harwin has always told you that you had a pure heart and soul, always oblivious to the wrongdoings of the people. You never knew how cruel people truly were, and now that you saw it you couldn't stop thinking about it.
“Nothing will happen to you, not if I'm here,” Harwin softly whispered. “I will always protect you, my precious angel.”
But then he thought of his words again; he might protect you from the enemies, from the dangers of the world, but how was he supposed to protect you from the torment that was caused by your own mind? How could he possibly make you forget about it?
He knew the answer, but he knew it was wrong. Terribly wrong.
“Come here.” Harwin invited you to sit on his lap. In any other occasion you would doubt a bit before assenting to do it, but in that moment all you wanted was to feel safe, to feel him against you as he got rid of all your fears with his mere presence - you couldn't resist.
His hands grabbed your hips as he lifted you up and motioned you until you were sitting on top of him - your arms around his broad body as you laid on his shoulder. His hands went to your head, his fingertips softly caressing your scalp while he soothed you again.
For him, it was quite hard to ignore the fact that the only thing in the middle of your nudity was a thin piece of fabric that did nothing to hide your body. He could see it, but you could feel it. At first you just sighed - the coldness of the metal covering his thigh would touch the heat between your legs, which was growing more intense with every passing second. You shivered, holding back a gasp when you accidentally moved your hips.
Out of the sudden, a thunderous sound similar to the one that woke you up was heard again. Your body jumped due to the shock, and your eyes widened with terror.
“Harwin…” you mumbled his name, almost as if you were begging him to make it stop, even when you knew he couldn't do anything more than stay by your side.
“Look at me, Princess,” he replied, his voice becoming slightly raspy as his big hands went to your hips. You felt how he started to pull your nightgown upwards - he had given up his hesitation to do this, defiling the pure little angel. How your doe-eyes and small body contrasted against his large frame, Strong was ensnared. The knight no longer fought against the carnal urges. He needed to take your mind elsewhere, and this was the only way he could think of. You tried to look down as he kept pulling the only layer of clothes that would cover your body - the only thing that separated your warmth from the coldness of the metal on his thigh, and he grabbed your chin, forcing you to keep your eyes on him. “Don't look away from me, angel…”
You obeyed, slightly parting your lips as the fabric brushed against your flesh, and once your cunt was laying naked on top of his leg, you felt a shiver running down your spine. Harwin’s honeyed gaze did not tear from your face at any moment, reluctant to see your most vulnerable places. He felt unworthy of it. He wasn't going to see you, he wasn't going to touch your vulnerable petals - he was just going to let you use him as you please.
“Ser Harwin…” you repeated his name in a gasp as his hands moved your hips on top of him. Gentle movements at first, just to see how you would react; that's when you moaned, feeling metal rubbing directly against your clit. It felt odd, but extremely good.
“Don't stress your mind any further,” he whispered, almost feeling breathless. “Forget about everything, just focus on what you feel…”
With your eyes closed, you placed your hands on his shoulder in order to find some stability when he slightly quickened the pace. The whimper that left your lips would be carved in Harwin’s mind forever, haunting his nights and increasing his need for you. You were there, in front of him looking so angelic, yet so sinful - he was tightening his grip on your hips, digging his fingertips on your flesh as a desperate attempt to hold back; the urge to rip that nightgown was almost unbearable. He needed to touch you, even when it was awfully wrong to do so.
One of his hands left your hip, moving upwards until it cupped your face. Your cheeks were burning beneath his touch, too flustered and shy to hold his haze for too long. You weren't stupid, you knew what was going on and you knew what it meant, yet it was hard for you to care when it felt this good.
Involuntarily, you started to move your hips on your own, growing needy and aching to feel more of him. You longed for his hands on your skin, touching every inch of you until his scent was spread all over your body - yet, he denied you of that, too scared of not being able to stop if he got to fondle your curves.
“Does it feel good?” he asked, his voice so deep and husky, almost making you purr like a kitten between his arms.
“S’good…” you whined in response, mouth agape and letting gasps fall from your lips.
Harwin shifted his position, trying to find some comfortable posture that would make him forget about the ache inside his breeches. He laid back on the settee, spreading his legs and letting you place your hands on his chest. You soon started to move your hips again, moaning his name.
“Fucking hell…” he groaned, now getting a full view of your body. “Go on, ride my thigh…” Those words slipped his lips before he was able to stop them. He felt ashamed, but you loved to hear them, driving your pace harder in reaction.
Your eyes opened and you found Harwin looking up at you as you used him for your own pleasure. He sat there, your weeping cunt coating his armor with your slick as you rubbed yourself on him; you quickly noticed how hard it was for him not to look down - not to look at the sinful view of your swollen bud brushing against him. Instead, his eyes remained on your face, lost in your glossy eyes and swollen lips. He was bewitched with the way your face would express the pleasure you were feeling; Blessed may be the gods for giving him the opportunity to see you like that.
His thumb moved closer to your lips, and you were quick to trap it inside your mouth, sucking and nibbling at it while your movements became more intense. Harwin couldn't resist, and he moaned once he felt your tongue swirling around his digit, imagining how that very same tongue would feel on his cock.
“This feels better than your pillow, doesn't it?” He suddenly groaned. On any other occasion, he would be too ashamed to mention that - the fact that he has heard you pleasuring yourself, yet he couldn't help it… the words slipped out of his mouth before he was able to hold them back. “Do you think of me when you do it?” He asked, almost begging to admit it, longing to hear you say it.
Though you were in no position to speak - too overwhelmed already, you manage to mumble a positive answer, humming as you nodded. A little smirk appeared on the knight's face, making him look even more charming than he already was. You felt your body melt in his arms.
With the motion of your body becoming more intense - faster, your nightgown slowly started to fall down your body, exposing your pebbled nipples to the hungry haze of the man beneath you. The struggle inside his mind was killing him, he wasn't supposed to touch you yet his body craved for it. His mouth watered at the sight while you kept moaning around his finger.
“Touch yourself for me, my angel,” he murmured, as if that would cease his cravings.
He removed his hand from your face, grabbing your wrist and relocating it to your breasts. You moaned at your own touch as you pulled your nipples and played with your own flesh. You leaned forward then, pressing your forehead against his, open-mouthed as you gasped when he grabbed your hips to control your movements once again. Harwin closed his eyes, groaning when you whined and mewled.
You sounded so beautiful.
“Come on, my princess,” he breathlessly said. His lips were merely a few inches away from yours. He fought the urge to devour your swollen lips. “Fucking hell… my angel, keep rubbing your sweet pussy against me. It feels so good, doesn't it? Bet you can’t think of anything else…”
“Harwin, I- I feel…”
“Sh… just let go. Fuck yourself on me, use me as you please. Let me help you empty that pretty head of yours.”
Harwin gave one last look at your trembling body before he started to bounce his leg, thick thigh adding more stimulation that almost made you scream. It was too much - the possessive grip around your hips was making it hard for you to think about anything else. You fantasized about him, about his hands, about his mouth… you longed for his touch, to feel huge calloused hands on your silken skin. You wondered how it would feel to have him inside of you, to let him defile your body. You wanted it so bad.
The thoughts soon started to push you over the edge. The metal covering Harwin’s thigh was soaked with your slick, it was slippery enough to fasten your movements until you couldn't hold it any longer. Your body weight fell forward, your hips twitching as your release oozed out of your weeping cunt, his name falling from your lips like a chant - as a way to thank him. Harwin felt his cock aching underneath his trousers, painfully hard, too damn close to coming undone.
“So good, my beautiful princess…” he whispered as he caressed your hair. His touch burning against now sensitive skin. “Bet you're not thinking about that bad man anymore, are you?”
You could only whine in response. Tired, overstimulated, and sleepy.
“Let's get you to bed now, shall we?”
Harwin grabbed your waist, lifting you up effortlessly as you leaned on his shoulders. Ever the gentleman, he fixed your gown and covered your nudity as he took you to the bed. He placed you delicately over the soft mattress and you hummed when he wrapped your trembling body on the silk sheets.
He leaned back then, but you grabbed his hand before he could go further away. “Please, don't,” you mumbled, looking up at him through your eyelashes. “Stay with me… Lay here.”
“My princess-”
“Please.”
And he couldn't say no.
You heard how he started to get rid of his armor, slowly detaching the pieces of metal from his body until there were just thin layers of clothes covering his body. He cautiously laid behind you - not wanting you to feel the hardness under his trousers, yet you grabbed his hand and forced him to wrap his limbs around your body, feeling the need to have him as close as possible.
Silence fell on the room, just hearing his calm breathing as he closed his eyes and smelled the sweet perfume lingering in your hair. But then, you spoke again.
“Ser Harwin?” you uttered his name so delicately it almost felt like a caress.
“Yes?”
There was a small pause, a moment of doubt. You continued regardless.
“I… I think I might be in love with you.”
Harwin's heart skipped a beat on his chest, and a smile appeared on his face. He felt a joy that he had never felt before.
“Princess?” Now it was him calling your name.
“Yes, sir?”
“I am in love with you.”

A Dragon's Wrath
Request: hello hello, how are u? Idk if u write for Harwin Strong, but I'm obsessed with this man, so if you're not taking requests for him, forgive me for being rude. So I wanted to make a request where the reader is the younger sister of Rhaenyra Targaryen, also daughter of Aemma and Viserys. She married Strong, and lives a dream life with him (they love each other very much, so please, Rhaenyra's children are not his 🫠) and the legitimacy of their children was questioned, of course the queen would never imagine that Harwin had a birthmark, which none of his brothers inherited from Lyonel, he being the only one to have it and ALL THE CHILDREN OF HARWIN AND THE PRINCESS HAVE THAT SAME BRAND, JUST LIKE THE FATHER'S. Maybe I went on too long and was stupid, sorry, you can do whatever comes to your brilliant mind, I just really wish the legitimacy of the children of the OC was proved by legal means and gave no right to be questioned even by the queen. Thank you for your attention, I understand if you don't want to do it 🤍.
pairing: harwin strong x targ!fem!reader
word count: 3k
warnings: mentions of childbirth, alicent being snakey
a/n: first harwin fic, harwin girlies lmk what you think!! for the sake of this fic, Rhae's children have Targaryen silver hair
Tumblr media
In all the years the pair were married, King Viserys and Queen Aemma were blessed by the Mother with only two healthy, living babes. First born has been your elder sister Rhaenyra, whom you followed two years later.
Growing up the two of you remained close through your lessons and dragon riding, but as Rhaenyra grew older she would end up spending more and more time with her lady in waiting Alicent Hightower. Rhaenyra and Alicent being two of the only other girls your age in the Red Keep and their refusal to have anyone join them in their activities, you felt somewhat dejected by your sister's budding friendship.
This is what led you to find solace in the Red Keep's training yards. Day after day you watched knights, and knights in training, battle it out in the yard while you worked on your studies. It was there in the yard you saw him for the first time- your future husband, Ser Harwin Strong.
At the time you had no idea you would end up marrying him, of course, but you should have.
You'd heard all about Ser Harwin Breakbones, son of Lyonel Strong, one of your father's most loyal council men. Harwin's reputation truly preceded him and was rightfully earned.
You hadn't noticed it at the time, but you'd abonded your books and parchments in the stands by your supervising Septa as you approached the rail separating the stands and the training yard in an attempt for a clearer view.
Harwin stood taller than his opponents, shoulders back, sword in hand ready to defend himself. He watched his opponents carefully, calculating their next move. His short brown curls were halfway pulled back out of his face with a tie, exposing Harwin's jawline, much to your own enjoyment.
That afternoon you watched Harwin take down man after man without so much as a proper blow to his own body. He wielded his sword as if it were an extension of his arm in fluid, rushing movements.
When he had finally finished for the evening you applauded him, finally grabbing his attention as he had held yours.
"You are quite the swordsman, Ser Harwin!" you call out to him. "I feel much better knowing there are knights as skilled as you protecting my home."
Harwin grinned largely at your praise, twirling his sword in his hand for show as he approached the rail you supported yourself on. "I mean only to ensure you are safe at all times, my princess."
You smiled down at him now that he was almost right below you. "Well I have no doubts of your capabilities, Ser. I have a feeling you will do great things here, should you wish."
"You are too kind, princess," he chuckles. Then he looks up at the sky, towards the sun on it's way to set. "It is getting quite late, princess. Shall I escort you back to your chambers?"
The excitement and hopefulness in his face brought butterflies to your stomach.
"I would like nothing more, Ser."
After that night it was scarce the two of you weren't side by side, which all but pushed your fathers to wed the two of you.
Now you stood in those same stands, watching Harwin in the yard yet again, but now he's joined by your two eldest sons. Maevor has just passed his tenth and second name day, and Daeragon his ninth. Your two youngest babes, however remained with you and your maid and close friend, Malina.
Malina had first been assigned to you after your marriage to Harwin, and she'd stood loyally by your side as you birthed all of your children.
Malina's elder brother Ellion, a knight of the City Watch, stood closeby on the order of Harwin. He'd been one of Harwin's best men as you'd heard him compliment the younger knight on many occasions in the past. Being a Targaryen princess and wife of the Lord Commander in such uncertain times in the house of the dragon could be dangerous, and Harwin meant only to protect you and your babes.
Your first daughter, eldest of your month old twins, Naelora cooed softly in your arms as she played with the loose sleeve ends of your dress. You indulged her for a moment, raising your arm to lift the sleeve from her reach to tease her.
She gurgles in laughter, stretching her chubby little arms to grasp your sleeve once more.
The moment is over by the approach of Queen Alicent's lady in waiting, Talya.
"My apologies, Princess," Talya bows to you first. "But the Queen has requested Malina's presence for this afternoon."
Why would the queen need Malina specifically? Surely she could find another maid within the Keep to aid her?
Malina looks to you, pale brown eyes silently asking to stay. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, of course. After giving birth to your second son Daeragon, Queen Alicent began requesting Malina's presence more often.
Still sore from your labors, Harwin had taken the day off to aid you and watch over Maevor to allow you to rest.
You watched happily from your spot on the bed as Harwin held little Daeragon, to introduce him to his elder brother. Maevor, a boy of three years, stood as high as he could on his toes to get a peek over Harwin's bulk of an arm to get a glimpse of his brother.
Then your chamber doors open and Malina returns to your side after serving the queen all day. She approaches the foot of your bed, hands clasped together in front of her with her eyes cast slightly downwards.
"Malina, you needn't worry about me," you begin to dismiss her kindly. "I'm sure the Queen-"
But Malina shakes her head, brown curls following her, still refusing to meet your gaze. "I need to speak with you, Princess. And you, Lord Harwin, in privacy."
You share a concerned look with Harwin, who's joyfulness has been replaced with worry. In the time she's served you Malina had never been afraid to look you in your eyes.
He wastes no time escorting Maevor to his chambers just off your own, and placing little Daeragon in his crib next to your side of the bed. Harwin returns and stands dutifully on the other side of you as if protecting you.
"What is it?" you ask, and pat the bed in front of you for Malina to sit.
Malina makes no move to sit on your bed. "My princess," her voice wavers nervously. "I have served your for near half a decade now, and I know you to be the most true and kind person I have ever had the pleasure of serving-"
"Malina," Harwin interrupts sternly. "Speak it plain, what have you heard of my wife?"
Your heart thudded hard in your chest as you instinctively reached for Harwin's hand. He intertwined his fingers with your in an attempt to comfort you.
Malina takes in a deep breath before finally looking up to meet your gaze. "Queen Alicent requested my presence after your labors today for questioning."
"Questioning?" you tilted your head slightly. "About what?"
"Your sons," she answered swiftly. "She... She wanted to know if this babe looked like Harwin or..."
Harwin pulled his hand from yours, placing it on the hilt of his sword. "Or who, Malina?"
"Ellion," Malina whispers. "The Queen seems to believe that you spend too much time with Ellion, princess. She asked if I knew of any relations between the two of you, but I swore to her you are deathly loyal and would never-"
You move from your spot on the bed to bring yourself to stand. Harwin aids you as you steady yourself, then reach for Malina's forearm.
"You needn't explain yourself to me, Malina," you assure her. "I know you to be true to me, and you are one of the kindest ladies I know. You should go, retire for the night. We shall do the same."
Malina apologizes the whole way out your chamber doors despite your assurances. Harwin begins to strip his armor as you settle yourself back into bed.
Daeragon's crib sat just off the side of your bed, close enough for you to have a view of the newborn's little face.
Harwin soon joins your side clad in his nightclothes. You can feel his gaze on you, but you refuse to meet his gaze. Emotions ran rampant through you. You knew it must be the strain and high emotions of you and your new babe surviving the day, but you couldn't stop the rush.
It's when the tears begin to fall from your lilac eyes that Harwin wraps you up in his arms and pulls you back against him.
"My love," he cooes. "Sweet girl, do not worry yourself with the opinion of a misguided, jealous woman."
He raises his right hand to show off the inside of his right wrist, showing off the small, discolored patch of skin he inherited from his father, Lord Lyonel. A small, almost missable, seemingly insignificant patch of skin both Maevor and Daeragon had inherited.
Harwin leans in close, placing his lips against the shell of your ear. "We know I have fathered your sons, my love. Do not worry yourself with this, it is not worth it."
"You're right, husband," you hum, settling into your husband's arms for the night. "I'm just glad he's here, and healthy."
He kisses your temple softly. "You did that. You made him the healthy babe he is."
As you promised Harwin that night, you did your best to ignore the rumors pursued by Alicent. In the years following Daeragon's birth you'd heard more whispers within the court questioning your son's parentage, though you said nothing.
You tried your best to pay them no mind, other days they really got to you. But for now you simply obliged to the queen's wishes.
"Ser Ellion," you motioned your friend forward with one hand. He looked much like his sister as they shared the same nose, and brown curly hair, though Ellion's eyes were an elegant green. Still, no man in the Seven Kingdoms could come close to Harwin in your eyes.
"Would you mind taking my sweet Raemor from your sister? I'm afraid I cannot tend to both babes at once."
Ellion nods and leans down slightly to make a peaceful transition from his sister's arms. He wore an awkward grin on his face as he cradles the blanket wrapped babe the best he could in a full suit of armor. "It is an honor, Princess. Though I'm not certain he will be comfortable against such steel."
Malina bows and takes Talya's arm in her own. You know Malina's dislike for the woman, and you can only guess she's done this to ensure Talya is led away from you and your family.
You shake your head in response to Ellion yet keep your attention on your daughter in your arms. "It is no issue, Harwin holds them in his armor every day. He has with each of them."
A moment passes in silence and you look up to your husband and eldest children. Maevor's brown curls are just long enough on the top to be tied back while leaving some down thus his hair is relatively tame. Daeragon's, however, is tousled and absolutely untame.
Both boys are breathing heavier now, their cheeks flushed. But the beautiful, pure look of excitement on their faces melted your heart. They knew their father was Lord Commander of the City Watch, and that Harwin worked hard for his family at his very important job, and they treasured their father for it.
After taking them to see Harwin train with some of the new recruits of the City Watch two fortnights ago had been a mistake on your part for the boys had not shut up about training themselves. At first you had been hesitant, of course other Targaryen princes had been taught to fight years before your boys, but you were afraid of the things they might encounter so instead you encouraged them to spend time in the libraries and their respective dragons.
As a result the boys were extremely well read and years ahead of their pupils in their studies. Maevor is practically fluent in Valyrian now, and Daeg is not far behind.
Their insistent pleading had wore on you though, and you gave in to them with Harwin's reassurance he would personally oversee their training. In the end, Maevor and Daeg's immediate joy at being granted permission made it worth it in the end.
Harwin and the boys were cleaning their training gear and putting it away.
Ellion clears his throat, pulling your attention from your family. "I fear something is happening, Princess."
"What do you mean?" you ask, standing from your seat and brushing your skirts with one hand.
"I have been approached twice now," he explains carefully, watching who was sat in the immediate area. The closest people sat on the complete opposite of the training yard in those stands. "Once by a fellow knight, and then by Talya herself. I only mention this as a warning, Princess."
Harwin and the boys are nearly there and you don't want the boys to hear such slander.
"Thank you, Ellion," you force a smile to give him. "And I apologize for what has been whispered around court these last years, but I plan now to make it right."
Harwin approaches you then, slinking one arm around your waist as he presses a kiss to your temple. "Come, my love, the boys need to bathe and our littlest ones must be ready for their nap."
Maevor perks up, "Mother, may I carry Naelora back to your chambers?"
Your hearts melts at the question, Maevor ever the doting older brother. You grant your son permission, gently reminding him to hold her head carefully.
"And I shall take Raemor from you, Ellion. I thank you for your services for today."
He bows respectfully, "Tis my duty, and an honor."

Once the twins are down for their naps and the older boys off to the bathhouse with Malina you informed Harwin of everything that had transpired this afternoon while he trained with the boys.
His thick brows furrowed almost immediately, angre written upon his face. Harwin had shed his armor by now, settling for more comfortable leathers for the evening. His sword however, stayed attached to his hip with one hand gripping the hilt.
"I am sick of hearing your name and reputation tarnished by fools!" Harwin seethes, angrier than you've ever seen him. "I have half a mind to slay them all down for even thinking such things of our children, of you."
You shake your head softly, approaching him to cup his face. You press your forehead against his own, something you've always done to comfort him.
"I have a plan, my dutiful husband," you assure him. "I happen to have a wonderful relationship with my father by law, if you must know. And I just so happen to know that a Small Council meeting starts in mere minutes."
Harwin eases a little, but now he's wrought with confusion.
"What have you planned, my love?"
You smile mischievously and press a sweet kiss to your husband's lips. "Just you wait husband, I first require our Maevor."
The boys are back from their baths by now as you can hear them bustling about Daeragon's chambers, which is the adjoining room to your own.
You knock before you enter as you always do, to the sight of your boys on Daeg's bed, books sprawled open before them.
"What have we there, byka zaldrīzoti (little dragons)?" you ask as you join them on the bed.
Daeg pulls the leather bound book to cover his lap to show you. "The Histories of Old Valyria!" he chimes. "Maevor was reading it to me in Valyrian."
You stroke Daeg's plush cheek with one hand, still able to see the babe he used to be in his face, and take Maevor's hand in your other.
"He's smart, your brother," you 'whisper' to Daeragon. "I would study hard, my Prince."
Maevor breaks his hand away to rustle his brother's brown curls. "Muña's teasing, Daeg. You are smarter now than I was your age."
You swoon, heart melting at the relationship between your boys. "Oh my sweet Maev," you kiss his temple. "Might I borrow you for a awhile, I have something important to discuss with the Small Council and I need your help."
Maevor's brown eyes widened slightly, "Of course, mother."
"Have no fear, sweet boy, I have a plan."
And you sure did. Once you explained what you could to Maevor while sparing his innocence best you could, he'd been more than willing to join you.
You squatted down to be closer to your son's level, Harwin by your side. "You are special, Maevor," you explain to him. You grab Harwin's right hand and Maevor's to put them side by side. Both birthmarks were near identical save for Harwin's being larger and slightly darker than his son's. "Each of my babes have this mark, all from Harwin, who inherited it from your grandsire, Lyonel. Do you understand?"
He nods, but says nothing. Harwin crouches down next to you, reaching to cup his eldest son's face.
"I wish we did not have to burden you with such a task, my boy," Harwin admits grimly. "I want you to know we are only doing this because we love you children, and I love your muña too much to let people speak of her in such a way any longer."
So the three of you set off, accompanied by Ellion as Malina had stayed behind to watch the twins and Daeragon.
Despite the Kingsguard outside the meeting room of the Small Council, you march right past them and push the doors open yourself.
Each member of the council turns to you now silenced. Otto sat up straighter in his seat as he looked towards his daughter. Alicent looked shocked to see the group of you, and you noted her visible nervousness.
Lyonel stands and comes to Harwin's side, demanding answers most likely. Harwin begins whispering in his father's ear, explaining the situation.
"Sister," Rhaenyra stands, hand placed over her round stomach. "What is wrong?"
You cross your arms over your chest, eyes blazing as you glare at the Hightowers at the table. "Since the birth of my Daeragon I have endured vile slanders against not only myself, but my marriage, and every one of my children."
Alicent shifts uncomfortably in her seat.
"Princess," Otto pokes in. "I can assure you-"
"Assure what?" you snap, slamming down on the table to lean towards the Hand. "Alicent has been the one to pull my ladies from me just after giving birth to insinuate my babes have been fathered by knight of the City Watch who is not my husband. Even now, a month after having my twins, I am approached with more blasphemy. No more."
You usher Maevor forward, who happily extends his right arm before you have to ask. Harwin joins you, followed by Lyonel, both of whom put out their wrists as well.
Alicent's mouth widens in shock before she grits her teeth. Even Larys' wears a look of shock as he checks his own wrists, coming up with nothing.
"I am tired of my children being put under scrutiny," you say finally. "And of my loyalty to my husband being questioned. Now, if you all do not mind, I would like to enjoy the rest of the day with my family undisturbed."
You step back from the table to leave when Rhaenyra wraps you up in a hug. "I am so sorry, sister," she whispers.
You assure her with a simple kiss to the side of her head before reaching for Maevor's hand.
The boy is practically bouncing on his feet as the two of you make your way back to your chambers, both Harwin and Ellion following close behind.
"She is very scary, your wife," Ellion admits to Harwin lowly. "I would to want to be on the receiving end of her wrath."
He only chuckles, "No, nor would I."

Safety (Ser Harwin Strong x Reader)
***please note that this oneshot now has a sequel, “Captivated”, which can be read HERE***
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Ser Harwin Strong x Tyrell! Female Reader
Warnings: GOT typical sexism, canon divergence, extremely subtle references to violence, spoilers for the House of the Dragon... I think that’s it. I’ll add more as I realize them.
Word Count: 3700 ish.
Summary: You’ve been brought to King’s Landing by Princess Rhaenyra’s search for her next lady in waiting. While your father, Lord Tyrell, and brother are hopeful for your prospects should you be chosen to serve the Princess, you’re having doubts about leaving the Reach and your family behind in favor of the storied but unfamiliar capital city. Thankfully, and perhaps a little ironically, you may be able to find some refuge in the man that they call Breakbones.
A/N: Oh look- the Strongs and the Tyrells. Two families who deserved better. Falling head over heels for a minor character with limited dialogue and screen time? Sounds like me. (What the heck is my deal with falling for men with doomed fates?) Anywayssss, I hope you enjoy this highly self-indulgent blurb.
Tumblr media
The processional line was a long one. It was nearly unbearable to wait in it- despite the handsome prize that was to be given out at the end of it all. One could hardly imagine what it must have been like to sit and sort through it.
The Princess, and Heir to the Iron Throne, Rhaenyra Targaryen, was in search of a new lady in waiting.
Ladies from all across Westeros had made their way to King's Landing for the occasion. Escorted by their fathers, brothers, mothers, or other extended family, the capital had been overflowing with people for the past few days. The crowds might have been enough to deter some, but for most, they had stayed firmly put. The potential reward to be bestowed upon a lady of their house was far too tempting to turn back now.
It had been several hours of waiting, as each and every hopeful was presented to Princess Rhaenyra and King Viserys. The end finally looked to be in sight, once you had made it into the throne room. You’d had your doubts throughout the duration of your journey to the capital, and said doubts were only amplified by worry upon the realization that many members of the King’s court had attended the festivity. You hadn’t anticipated an audience for the event.
Your father provided a welcomed distraction when he more directly pointed out what he had been vaguely commenting upon all day: most of the other hopefuls were nowhere close to the Princess’s age. You couldn’t help but agree- nearly every noble lady in line around you seemed either far too old, or far too young. The girl in front of you, escorted by who appeared to be her brother, couldn’t have been more than five years of age.
“You may stand a chance yet, my dear,” your father said to you under his breath, before pointedly grinning at an observer who was eyeing him.
Though your father sounded hopeful, you weren’t sure how to feel about it. Being chosen by the Princess to be one of her ladies in waiting would be an honor, that much was indisputable. But, should you be chosen, it would mean a semi-permanent relocation to King’s Landing, which was leagues away from her father and brother.
The Tyrells were notorious among the Reach for being one of the few noble houses that outwardly cared for one another. Some of the other noble houses suspected that it was an act, merely a ploy used to gain the trust and support of the common folk. Perhaps in previous generations, it had been. But that was not the case for the current one. Your father, Lord Larris Tyrell, your brother, Derron Tyrell, the heir to Highgarden, and yourself, had always been close.
Too soon, the girl in front of you was being introduced to the King and Princess as the Lady Rosyn Tully. As the scene unfolded, the most prominent of your worries came to the forefront of your mind.
You knew that your father and brother were hopeful that, should you be chosen to serve Princess Rhaenyra, your list of potential suitors would grow exponentially. Already the only daughter of the current Lord Tyrell, you’d always known that you were expected to marry and secure a smart match for yourself. Though your father and brother had never forced your hand in the matter, you also knew that you were getting to be an age where others may begin to question why you had not yet been matched. Princess Rhaenyra, who was also your age, would undoubtedly be married herself in perhaps a year or two.
You’d come to peace with the fact that you’d be expected to marry, not out of love, but out of duty to your family and House. But the men in King’s Landing were strangers. Though it simply was not possible that all were heathens, you’d heard plenty of rumors. Some of the men who walked around the Red Keep were snakes, scheming and plotting with nearly every breath they took. Others were cruel, and took joy in the misfortunes of others, which, unfortunately, seemed to be plentiful in King’s Landing. The third group of them, and the scariest and most formidable to you, were the licentious scoundrels who placed little to no value on women, and preferred to think of and treat them as mere objects.
Being the lady in waiting for Princess Rhaenyra would guarantee some safety, perhaps. But while you would have to stay in King’s Landing, your father and brother would return back to Highgarden, and with it, they would take the security they’d always provided you with.
In front of you, King Viserys bantered with Lord Elmo Tully, Lady Rosyn’s designated escort. As their conversation echoed faintly in your ears, your eyes drifted to beside you, where many curious members of court observed the proceedings with intrigued whispering.
You hardly recognized a single one of them, but you hadn’t expected to. Though several noblemen from the Reach were active members of King Viserys’ court, most of them came from the Houses closer to and around Oldtown. Your eyes glossed over a lot of them briefly, never situating themselves on any one of them in particular, lest you got caught staring.
But there was one amongst the crowd that caught your eye, despite your efforts. A young man, perhaps a few years your senior, stood closer to the front of the room, where the Iron Throne was situated, but along the side wall. Though he was several rows of people deep into the crowd, it was doubtful anyone could have missed him.
The young man was massive. He was tall, insanely so- perhaps that was the reason he had fixed himself towards the back of onlookers. His broad shoulders did nothing but encourage his outward appearance of a potentially looming individual. Rich brown hair adorned his head; the earthy tone was almost comforting amongst the rest of his unique and otherworldly physique.
The rumors you’d heard about the men in King’s Landing had not excluded him. And as you took in the sight of the nearly daunting man across the room, you knew in an instant who he was. One more quick glance about the room confirmed your suspicions- no one else held a candle to him. It had to be him.
Ser Harwin Strong.
Or, rather, Breakbones, as some would call him. But you tried not to think too much about how he might have earned that nickname.
Son of Master of Laws, Lord Lyonel Strong, and Heir to Harrenhal, Ser Harwin Strong was the strongest knight in all the seven kingdoms. It was said that he was able to pull a fully occupied carriage on wheels all by himself. Someone else had told you they’d heard he was single handedly able to open and close the burdensome doors to the Red Keep once, when the chains had broken. You weren’t sure whether you believed those rumors at the time you’d heard them, but looking at Ser Harwin Strong now… perhaps you ought to have given them more merit.
Before you could come to your senses and look away for propriety’s sake, you realized with mild mortification that Ser Harwin’s eyes were locked with your own. You wanted to tear your eyes from his, and keep whatever dignity you could scramble together for yourself, but something stopped you. The way his eyes entrapped yours was undeniable. They were a lovely hazel shade, by the looks of it- though it was hard to tell from across the room. You wanted to look away- and you knew you should have. There was no reason to occupy his gaze in such a manner. You hadn’t even been introduced to him.
Still, it wasn’t until your father’s guiding hand on your arm urging you forward that you finally broke eye contact with the knight.
Instead, you were met with the inquisitive gazes of the royal family.
There was King Viserys, looking fatigued but yet still present, seated upon the imposing Iron Throne.
Queen Alicent sat beside him. You recognized her almost immediately, despite the ornate gown and crown upon her head. Before she had moved to King’s Landing, she, along with her father, Lord Otto Hightower, who was seated right behind the King and Queen, had paid your father several visits over the years. And since you and Alicent were near the same age, the two of you had often been encouraged to entertain and spend time with one another. It was odd- in your youth, your station might have been considered above hers, given your father’s House. But now that Alicent was Queen, the roles had certainly been reversed. Her marriage to King Viserys had arguably created the need for this very event. Queen Alicent, once friends with Princess Rhaenyra, had almost been a lady in waiting of sorts before her marriage. But now that she was married and otherwise occupied, it had been determined that the Princess required additional assistance with her affairs.
Princess Rhaenyra was seated on the other side of the King. She looked… dare you say it, bored. You’d heard of her sharp tongue and witful rapport, and could only hope that she would choose to be merciful and spare you any difficult conversation.
“Lord Larris Tyrell of Highgarden, Defender of the Marshes, Lord Paramount of the Reach, and Warden of the South… and his daughter, the Lady Y/N Tyrell.”
Lord Hightower’s introduction echoed off the walls of the throne room, and upon hearing it, you and your father curtsy and bow respectively to your gracious hosts.
“Lord Larris,” King Viserys greeted, smiling warmly. “It has been some time since we last met, my old friend. And as for the Lady Y/N- your daughter is very lovely. She is truly the image of your late wife, if I may say so.”
“You are too kind, Your Grace,” your father replied, sparing you a glance out of the corner of his eyes. “Y/N truly is the pride of our House.”
You smiled humbly, feeling honored by your father and the King’s words, though a bit wary as to wear the conversation might turn next.
Princess Rhaenyra regarded you thoughtfully. “You look familiar, Lady Y/N- have we met before?”
You had not expected to be addressed directly by either the King or the Princess. From what you could tell, not many in the line before you had been. Your father sensed this as well; he turned to you slightly, and gave you an encouraging look.
“I’m afraid I have not had the pleasure, Princess,” you responded, still not entirely confident, though trying to fight through your nerves. “Although, I did accompany my father last year, when he swore fealty to you.”
Princess Rhaenyra’s eyes widened in mild surprise. “The journey from Highgarden to King’s Landing is quite a long one, and to make that trip twice… That must have been difficult. Wouldn’t you agree?”
“Perhaps it is for some, Your Grace,” you replied carefully, not sure as to whether her phrasing was meant to trick you.
The Princess smiled softly, as if sensing your nervousness. “That is a fair point… We welcome you to the capital, just the same.”
“Thank you, Your Grace.”
“How was the trip?” she asked politely.
You bit your tongue at first. You’d heard rumors of the Princess’ normal disposition, but knew not how true they were… But then you recalled the rumors of Ser Harwin Strong, and now that you had seen him with your own eyes, they weren’t likely to have been rumors at all… Perhaps Princess Rhaenyra would be receptive to your blunt response. It was a risk, but it was a risk worth taking.
“Well, the weather was very agreeable,” you answered. “However, the smell has not been so forgiving. But, I suppose that, with time, one grows accustomed to it.”
An eerie silence fell over the throne room then, despite the gaggle of attendees and onlookers. You knew it only to be in your mind, but you could have sworn that the stench of King’s Landing only grew stronger following your acknowledgement of it. Out of the corner of your eye, you could feel the panicked eyes of your father upon you, but you could not tear your eyes away from the King and the Princess.
King Viserys looked contemplative for a few moments. Those brief seconds felt like hours as you waited with bated breath, rapidly growing fearful that you had erred. But suddenly, the King erupted into a fit of joyful laughter. Princess Rhaenyra soon joined him, as did most everyone who was within earshot. The rest of the room continued about their hushed whispers. Queen Alicent did not look very amused.
The King’s eyes shined with mirth as he attempted to calm himself. “Very amusing- I dare say she gets that from you, Lord Larris.”
Your father laughed from beside you, but you could tell some of the laughs were still riddled with nerves.
“Well,” King Viserys said then, directly to your father, in an attempt to conclude the conversation. “It was truly nice to see you again, Friend. Perhaps we will have some time to reaqqunaint ourselves during your visit.”
“That would be most welcomed, Your Grace,” your father replied.
Taking that as your queue to leave, your father moved to bow and you to curtsy, but the pair of you were immediately stopped by Princess Rhaenyra’s inquiry.
“Lady Y/N,” she beckoned.
You froze, and after sending a subtle, wary glance to your father, you rose back to your full height and regarding her.
The Princess was looking at you through slightly narrowed eyes. However, the look was not menacing- it was more curious than anything else. “Tell me- what is a quality I should seek in my next lady in waiting?”
You knew this was a test. The audience hushing themselves as they strained to hear your response, as well as the Princess’ interested look as she regarded you, only proved your hunch as fact. Though your father might have preferred you to offer up a safe answer to appease her, you decided against it. You’d been honest thus far, it had yet to lead you astray. You conveyed as much to the Princess.
“I would recommend seeking someone honest, Your Grace.” Your eyes briefly flitted over to Lord Hightower. “Like the Hand of the King- and someday, the future Hand of the Queen- offers the King truthful, unbiased advice. So should your ladies in waiting offer you the same counsel.”
You could tell by the look on her face that your words resonated with Princess Rhaenyra. In light of this, you felt empowered to continue.
“Many of us have been conditioned from a young age to offer up solely what others wish to hear. Pretty words can do wonders to soothe worried minds. But offering up pretty words to the future Queen of Westeros at the expense of honest advice would be a detriment to the realm. A good monarch ought to seek honest counsel, and- if I may be so bold, Your Grace- you seem very inclined to do just that. It would be best then to surround yourself with those who are just as inclined to offer it to you.”
It was quiet in the throne room once again. You feared for the health of your father beside you, but you dared not to look at him just yet.
King Viserys looked tired once again, but at least he did not look angered. “Those were some wise words, My Lady.”
“Thank you, Your Grace.”
Princess Rhaenyra looked absolutely pleased, but you weren’t sure if that was a good thing. Regardless, she said, “It was an honor to make your acquaintance, Lady Y/N Tyrell. I anticipate that you shall be hearing from me soon.”
“I look forward to it, Your Grace,” you heard yourself say, forcing yourself to finally curtsy to the royal family.
Your father quickly escorted you out of sight. Though he was not cross with you, and would never admit to as much, you could tell he was a little disappointed. He feared that your words had rubbed the royal family the wrong way, and ruined your chance.
But he would forgive you. And you could both return back to Highgarden, where no strange men roamed the halls, and the only scheming to be found was by the young children who attempted to sneak some desert from the kitchens.
Tumblr media
As it turned out, your choice words had not rubbed the royal family the wrong way, after all.
Only a few days later, you received a letter from Princess Rhaenyra herself, formally offering you the position as one of her ladies in waiting.
Your father was thrilled. You felt humbled to have been chosen, but the goodbye you shared with him was tearful. And once your father’s carriage had disappeared from the Red Keep and out of sight into the narrow streets of King’s Landing, the fear and realization of the fact that you were truly alone for the first time in your life became all the more evident.
The following morning was the first one you were to be in the Princess’ service. You walked to her chambers swiftly, being selective about whom you made eye contact with on the way there. You were still learning names and faces, and were trying your best to decide which among those who resided within the Red Keep would one day be worthy of your trust.
You donned one of your best dresses, the fabric was in your favorite color. While you had worn a green gown during your first audience with the King and Princess, as it was one of the colors of House Tyrell, you reasoned that standing out from the crowd of your peers had more likely than not earned you your post. While green was a lovely color, wearing one of your favorite dresses was a sure way to make a statement, and give yourself the confidence boost you desired.
… Admittingly, your confidence did waiver slightly upon arriving outside the Princess’ chambers. You had expected another knight to be keeping guard- not Ser Harwin Strong.
“Lady Y/N,” he greeted, with an amused twinkle in his hazel eyes that did not go unnoticed by you.
You felt your face heat up with mild embarrassment as you recalled that you had been caught red-handed staring at him only a few days beforehand. You nodded to him politely in greeting. “Ser Harwin… I was told Ser Criston usually keeps watch here.”
“That is true,” Ser Harwin acknowledged. “But Princess Rhaenyra has tasked him with some personal business today, and I am afraid you are stuck with me instead.”
For a man named Breakbones, he was far more soft-spoken than you had ever anticipated him to be.
You cleared your throat briefly, and lowered your voice slightly, so as not to be overheard. “Ser Harwin… I wanted to apologize, for the other day. I did not mean to-”
“Worry yourself not, My Lady,” Ser Harwin dismissed politely. “I am quite used to being gawked at.”
“Gawked?” you repeated blankly. “I assure you, My Lord, I was not gawking at you! I merely…-”
You trailed off as you noted the mischievous glint in his eye. And then you realized- he was messing with you.
You frowned disapprovingly, leaving Ser Harwin no choice but to chuckle at your antics. The sound echoed off the narrow stone hallway, warming the surrounding space and your heart just the same.
“I apologize, Lady Y/N,” he said, though he was still smiling. “I mean no offense… as I have taken none from you.”
It was your turn to smile now. “Good,” you declared, relieved, but also amused by your entire conversation thus far. “I am glad to hear that.”
“I am glad you are here,” Ser Harwin admitted. “The Princess clearly has taken to you, and I have the feeling you will serve her well.”
You could tell his words were sincere. It surprised you, but you probably shouldn’t have been. The strongest knight in the seven kingdoms probably had little want or need to deceive or scheme. Ser Harwin Strong seemed like a man who wore his heart on his sleeve… and, like you had preached yourself in the throne room, you believed honesty to be an extraordinary quality in a person.
Perhaps he was one of the few amongst this strange place that could be trusted. However, only time would tell.
“Thank you, Ser Harwin.”
“You are very welcome, My Lady,” he nodded cordially. “You should also know- any friend of the Princess is a friend of my own. Should you find yourself in need of anything, or should anyone give you any trouble, I do hope you think of me. You need only ask for help, and it shall be yours.”
Another smile came to your lips at his endearing offer. You tried not to think too much about it, but you doubted the words would ever stray far from your mind.
“I will certainly keep that in mind, My Lord.”
Ser Harwin stood to attention, and looked at the door beside him. “I should not keep you any longer, I’m afraid… I wouldn’t want you to make a bad impression with the Princess on your first day.”
“And I should let you return to your post,” you agreed, though part of you felt a bit remorse that the charming conversation was coming to an end. However, you had a sneaking suspicion that this would not be the last of your conversations with the one they called Breakbones.
You turned to face the door to the Princess’ chambers, but paused right as your hand fell upon the metal handle when the knight beside you spoke one last time.
“I bid you a good day, Lady Y/N.”
“And I you, Ser Harwin.”
There were still strangers in King’s landing. And you had little doubt that there were plenty of men who roamed the Red Keep that could pose a threat to you. With your father and brother at home in the Reach, you had assumed that meant you would have to fend for yourself.
You had not anticipated finding an ally so soon. But perhaps there was safety to be found yet, amongst the likes of Ser Harwin Strong.

Broken bonds
Paring: Ser Harwin Strong/reader
Warnings: None
2.04
Your fingers tangle into the curls of Harwin’s hair, gently scraping his scalp as he rests his head against your bump. His eyes were closed, but he was peaceful between wakefulness and sleep.
The day after the celebrations for your son's birth were finished, you and Harwin went to Harrenhal and got married. Your father was delighted, as was Rhaenyra; however, Lord Lyonel Strong seemed a little hesitant. Unlike your own father, his love for his son didn’t deceive his eyes. Lord Lyonel had warmed up to you over the years and was completely taken with your sons.
The few years you spent in Harrenhal were full of happiness, but after learning how badly Alicent treated your sister after the birth of her first son, Jacaerys, you decided to return to try and take some of the burden off of Rhaenyra. Although things had been tense since you returned, it did make you happy that your father could witness your sons and nephews growing up. Ever since you announced you were with a child again, only a few moons after Rhaenyra gave birth for the second time, another son, a sweet raven-haired son named Lucerys, the rumor mill was spinning again, the latest being that your husband was the father of both yours and your sister's children. The rumor was, of course, continually circulated and made up by Alicent and Otto. The vicious lie had absolutely no truth to it but was still damaging enough to hurt your sister's reputation and feelings.
Groggily, Harwin says, “I think it’s a girl.”
You smile at the thought. You could picture a sweet little raven-haired girl who would share her father's kind nature.
Closing your eyes, let out a deep sigh as you feel Harwin shift beside you to get up. You pout, “I wish you didn’t need to go.”
Harwin leans down and presses his lips against yours. “I will be back before you and the boys wake.”
“I love you; be safe.”
You awaken to the sound of someone knocking at the door to your bedroom. In a sleepy haze, it takes you a moment to register what the noise is, but once you do, you rush to the door. Your heart rattled inside your chest as fear settled in your gut. It was still dark out, so this couldn’t be anything good. What if one of your sons had taken ill and Harwin was hurt? You swing the door open and are relieved to see a knight of the king's guard standing with a young boy beside him.
“Sorry to disturb you at this time, princess, but Prince Aegon insisted I bring him here instead of returning to his own quarters and asked me not to inform the queen of his actions.”
You usher your brother over to you and gently squeeze his shoulder. “Thank you, Ser Erryk. Prince Aegon will stay with me until the morning. I will make sure he doesn’t wander again, and I shall inform the king of this myself.”
The knight nods his head and says, “Princess, my prince. “
When the door is closed, you pad along back to your bed, and your brother is close behind you. Sighing, you get back into bed and pull the covers back for Aegon to get in beside you. It wasn’t your place to lecture him or forbid him from leaving his bedchamber during the night.
“Are you really going to tell father I snuck out?”
“It’s better he hears it from me than someone else. Besides, I suspect your mother will know shortly,” you yawn.
Alarmed, he asks, “How will she know?”
“Who was supposed to be making sure you didn’t wonder about the castle tonight?” You ask, closing your eyes.
“Ser Criston,” he grumbles. “Do you think my mother will yell at me?”
You did find it impressive; he still found a way to sneak out of his room with Cole guarding it. He was incredibly smart for a boy who had just celebrated his eighth birthday; however, you wouldn’t praise him for it out loud. You’d be upset if it was one of your own sons. Aegon exploring the castle alone at night, himself being dangerous, was the only thing you and Alicent agreed on.
“Well, we both know the knight guarding your room will go straight to the queen, but we’ll deal with that in the morning.” You brush hair out of your younger brother's face. Aegon wasn’t a bad kid; he was just restless.
Your husband had pointed out how clingy Aegon had become to you the older he got, which wasn’t an issue, but it did make you sad. He seemed jealous whenever he watched Harwin interact with Vaegon and Aerion, because he never got that affection from his own parents. You didn’t doubt your father’s love for your younger siblings, but he was much older and sicker than he was when you and Rhaenyra were growing up. And Alicent, she loved her children but didn’t actually like them, which was painfully obvious.
You think Aegon was looking for a motherly figure, which is why he was drawn to you so much. He needed that type of love. Opening your eyes, you see Aegon staring up at the ceiling, blanking, “Do you want to go dragon riding with me tomorrow?”
His eyes widened. “Really?”
“If we wake up early enough in the morrow, I’ll take you before breaking fast. As long as you promise to stop wandering alone at night.”
“I promise.”
Sighing, you rub at your stomach patiently, waiting for Rhaenyra. You still have four more moons to go, but your bump still remains small. On the plus side, it meant you still got to wear nice gowns, and riding Varos was still easy enough. After dragon riding, you visited your father with your sons and explained what happened the night before; he found it amusing rather than concerning.
“Sister, this has got to stop,” you say as soon as Rhaenyra enters her bedchamber through a hidden door.
“How did you get in here?”
“The same way you did.”
Her lips come together in a thin line, her nose crinkling in annoyance. Without even looking in your direction, Rhaenyra pours herself a drink; she pauses, then pours another, then offers it to you.
You felt like an old nag, but Rhaenyra’s behavior wasn’t healthy. She was sneaking around the castle just like Aegon, but instead of exploring, she was listening in on the green council meetings, which mainly consisted of slandering the both of you. It broke Rhaenyra’s heart to hear her former best friend say such cruel things about her, but she still always chose to listen.
“Alicent intends to question us about our children’s parentage. What do we do if the queen asks us to prove Laenor and Thomas are the fathers?”
Hearing the fear in her voice, you take her hand in yours and say, “Then we remind her we only answer to the king, not the consort.”
She snorts, “You sound like Daemon.”
“I imagine he would say much worse.” You laugh.
“I saw you on Varos this morning. Did our brother enjoy himself?” Your sister asks, changing the subject.
You felt your cheeks heat up. Your relationship with your younger siblings was far better than the one they had with Rhaenyra; they almost seemed frightened of her despite you continually telling them what a good person she was. You had a theory that Alicent was trying to poison you both, but you just couldn’t prove it. Spending time with Aegon and Helena made you feel guilty. You felt guilty for having something Rhaenyra desperately wanted. “Yes, he is rather taken with the dragon Sunfyre.”
Sunfyre was one of the most beautiful dragons to ever exist, and the only one that would play with Varos.
“Would you and Laenor care to dine with me and Harwin tonight? Of course the young princes are invited as well.”
She rolls her eyes and says, “I am unsure of what my husband's plans are.”
“Well, just you and my nephews? I know my sons will love to see them.” She looks hesitant. Your sister had been closing herself off for some time, and it was becoming harder and harder to help her. “Please, it will mean a lot to me. I don’t like you being alone.”
She gulps down, “I may have plans tonight already. But I can come to your chambers and keep you company later, once I’ve put Jace and Luke to bed first.”
“Of course, that would be lovely.”
You couldn’t help but feel that something else was going on with your sister, but you weren’t sure what.

It was getting late enough that the sun’s light no longer adequately lit the book you had been staring at. Rubbing at your eyes, you yawned and stretched out your arms. You had been out here since after morning’s end at least. Supper would have to consist of whatever you could convince the chefs in the kitchens to cook for you.
The roots at the back of the heart tree, or rather, where you joked the ass should be carved (to the Septa’s annoyance and your later punishment), had a nice dip in them that served as a hammock for your body. Add in the many pillows and blankets that had a permanent residence under the tree, and you had yourself a nice little hiding spot that you had frequented for as long as you could remember. Unless one walked all along the side of the heart tree, it was likely a passerby wouldn’t notice you.
“Ser Harwin was looking for you.”
A yelp escaped your lips, much to your sister’s delight. Her airy laugh floated amongst the trees in the Godswood.
“Seven hells Rhaenyra!”
She giggled again, sitting down next to you. You playfully pushed her arm. She feigned offense, then wrapped her arms around you and placed a delicate kiss to the top of your head.
“Ser Harrold told me he was the one who took you hunting in the Kingswood for Aegon’s nameday.” She looked at you expectantly. You shrugged in response.
“That was over a fortnight ago! You weren’t going to mention it to me,” she paused, pressing her flattened palm against her heart, “big sister, best friend, closest companion?!”
“Well you didn’t exactly talk about your night in the Kingswood with Ser Criston, bloodied and disheveled. I thought we were going to drink and leave Aegon’s nameday behind us.”
Rhaenyra gave you a knowing look. “This,” she waved her hands in a circle, “is different. You’re already blushing at the mere thought of him.”
You rolled your eyes at her. “The dramatics are over the top tonight, Rhaeny.”
“Dramatics or not,” she turned her body to face you, grabbing your forearm, “you two would make a fine match someday.”
“Match?! Rhaenyra, he’s Lord Lyonel’s oldest boy. Don’t you think a marriage proposal would be for you?”
Rhaenyra smirked. “See, that’s another thing Ser Harrold told me. When father was discussing my future matches,” she paused at the word to stick out her tongue and fake sick, “with Lord Lyonel, he joked that the Lord would advise I wed his son, Ser Harwin.”
“…And?”
“And,” she leaned in closer to you, “He disagreed. Instead, he counseled Father that he believed I should wed another.”
“Who?”
Rhaenyra slapped your arm. “It doesn’t matter who sister, point is, Lord Strong is not putting his son up for my hand. Furthermore,” she continued, while you rubbed your stinging arm, “Ser Harwin is not interested in me. As soon as we ran into each other, the first thing out of his mouth was to ask if I’d seen you.”
You rolled your eyes. “That doesn’t mean anything, Rhaenyra.”
“Is that right? Well, answer me this — whose dagger has been occupying space in your chambers? Because I know you did not convince the smiths to craft you one with the sigil of House Strong in the hilt.”
“You went in my room without me!” you pushed her.
“Sister,” she grabbed both of your shoulders, “you keep missing the point.”
“Which is?”
She lowered her voice. “That not only would the two of you make a handsome match, one that father would actually consider and if need be, we could sway him toward, but, that you could also be happy. You could wed for love. You could,” her voice cracked and she cleared it, “you could have what mother and father had.”
Tears welled at both yours and Rhaenyra’s eyes at the mention of mother. She pulled you in and hugged you tightly. “I just want you to be happy,” she whispered.
You squeezed her back and inhaled her familiar scent. “I love you, sister.”
“And I, you.” She pulled back and smoothed out your hair. “Now head to the library. With any luck, you might still find him there searching for you.”
You grabbed your book and hopped up to your feet. You began a brisk pace towards the library, the halls of the Red Keep surprisingly empty during the walk there.
You rounded the corner into the library and saw a familiar, tall, dark knight pacing the shelves in the back, looking at the various volumes on hand.
“Can I help you find what you’re looking for, Ser?”
Harwin turned on his heel, clearly a little startled by the sound of your voice. He took in your appearance as you returned the book you had been reading back to the proper shelf. The corners of your mouth were upturned into a smile.
“Princess,” he greeted.
You picked up a different book and offered it to him. Flora of the Seven Kingdoms by Maester Tollett.
“Hmm… I think I would rather have lessons from the expert than read about flowers from a Maester who’s been dead half a century.” His smile was large, his eyes bright as he looked down at you. You put the book back down on the shelf and began walking around the library, running a stray finger along the spines of the books.
“Expert, hmm?” you questioned. “I’m surprised a man of the City Watch has time for something as silly as flowers.”
Harwin walked over to you, the soft patter of his boots with every step emphasizing just how slowly he was moving. He lifted a hand to your cheek. “I make time for the things that are important to me, princess.”
You smiled up at him as he gently brushed his thumb against your cheek. “What brings you to the library?”
“Well,” he dropped his hand from your face, bringing it instead to his and rubbing the length of his stubble. “I had dinner with father and Larys. Father said I should learn what it means to be Master of Laws if that is the path I want to follow someday.”
“What about the City Watch?” you tilted your head slightly.
“Mmm, I intended to climb up the ranks, princess. However, it seems father wants me to have all my options open. Says I could make for a fine politician like him.” He shrugged his shoulders as if to indicate he didn’t believe that. “I asked for a transfer to the barracks here at the Red Keep to be closer.”
“You’ll get to patrol inside the Keep?”
He nodded. “Both inside and out now, yes.” He took a deep breath in.
“Oh Ser Harwin, that’s wonderful. You’ll get to see Lord Lyonel and Larys a lot more now.”
“Yes, princess,” he paused, reaching a hand out to brush some hair behind your ear. “My family, and others who are dear to me.”
Your cheeks grew hot. You eyes left Harwin’s and looked down at your feet. His feet stepped in closer to yours and you could feel his breath against the crown of your head. His hand gently wrapped around to the back of your head…
He jumped back like he had been burned at the sound of feet behind you. Maester Runciter had entered the library, oblivious to the princess and knight who currently occupied it. He began scattering various papers around his workspace and talking to himself.
You cleared your throat and peered up at Ser Harwin through your lashes. “Would you accompany me on a walk through the Keep? Or are you on duty tonight?”
He offered his arm out and you took it. “I am free tonight, princess.”
You waved to Maester Runciter on your way out of the library but you were pretty certain he did not hear or see either of you during his time in there. You giggled at this and Ser Harwin could be heard chuckling under his breath.
“You know, I have a book on the small council in my chambers. You’re welcome to it, Ser Harwin. Admittedly, I have been using it to press flowers.”
His laugh was more audible this time around. “Thank you princess. I will be sure to find you a heavy replacement.”
The two of you walked what felt like the length of the entire castle, talking and laughing. The evening air brought with it a cold front that had the hairs on your arm standing up tall. A shiver ran through you as the wind ripped your silver hair behind your shoulder. You let go of Ser Harwin for the first time to rub your own arms.
“Princess,” he stopped you. You turned around to face him. His gold cloak had been pulled from his own shoulders and he was holding it out to you like a blanket. You nodded and turned, letting him wrap his cloak around you.
“We should get you inside,” he murmured in your ear. You shivered again, admittedly not from the cold this time. Not wanting the night to end but knowing he was right, you reluctantly agreed. You nuzzled into the gold fabric, breathing in the woody smell of Ser Harwin as you followed alongside him.
Ser Criston had a strange look upon his face as the two of you rounded the corner towards your chambers. He nodded wordlessly to you before eyeing down Harwin. Harwin, who had also taken notice of the way your Kingsguard had been watching him, placed a firm hand at your back, rubbing up and down tenderly.
You twirled around, having reached the double doors to your chamber. “Thank you for accompanying me tonight,” you smiled up at him. Harwin simply bowed and you took this chance to stand on your tiptoes and place a soft kiss upon his cheek. When you both pulled back, Harwin’s eyes found the floor, his face flushed. Ser Cole cleared his throat.
He looked at you after a moment, dropping his voice to a whisper. “Good night, sweet flower.”
You curtsied before opening the doors behind your back and pushing yourself in. When they were closed and at your back, you brought your fingers to your lips where they still tingled from the scratchiness of Harwin’s beard. It took your full willpower not to run back outside after him.
It was then that you realized you still had his gold cloak. You fingered it lightly for a few moments before throwing it atop your bed. When you were ready to tuck yourself in, you brought the cloak underneath the covers and wrapped yourself in it.

Alaric Strong had to be the babe with the largest lung capacity in the entire world. Again and again, you rocked your firstborn son, praying to the Gods that he would fall asleep. In the Westerlands, it was common to have an army of wetnurses to care for a babe, but Harwin was of the Riverlands, where even one wetnurse was not always common.
You had decided that you wanted to keep to his tradition, which meant that you had to wait another few minutes until you could hand over Alaric for the night. Truly, you loved your son with all your heart, but there was also another headaches beginning to pound away in your skull, and Harwin was always busy with the City Watch.
When the wetnurse finally did arrive, you almost feel to your knees then and there, smiling at her as she took your son out of your arms.
She told you to take a rest with a motherly smile, and you felt your eyes water from exhaustion on the spot. Still, you pushed that down and began to drag yourself to your chambers, only a few steps away.
Alaric’s cries faded in the background as you opened the door to your shared bedroom. You’d already asked the maid to run a bath for you after not having showered for a week, but as you saw the dinner that was spread out in front of you, you only sat down at the table silently.
The smell of roast, potatoes and gravy, soft bread and tomatoes filled your nose as you sat at the table. In one bowl, you spotted strawberries so red they could only have been imported from your home, the Westerlands.
As the other door to your husband’s solar opened, you dragged yourself to stand up. It was a thing of respect to greet your husband, a manner that had been hammered into you by your mother for as long as you remembered.
“My lord.” You greeted tiredly, your knees protesting as you gave a small curtsy. Harwin quickly closed the distance between the two of you, helping you sit. He took your hand, a kiss dusting your knuckles.
“My wife. My queen.” He greeted quietly.
“How was the City Watch?” you asked, beginning to assemble his plate. You knew that, in the evenings, Harwin preferred a smaller cut of meat, so you gave him a larger portion of potatoes instead. Gently, Harwin held your wrist, and you looked up at him, confused.
“Rest.” Harwin said. “I owe you an apology. I had not realised how tiring it was to take care of my son until the wetnurse almost smacked some sense into me. I am sorry, my wife, for not taking care of you earlier.”
He took the plate, making another as you liked it and handing it to you.
You barely managed your prayer before you began to eat, not having realised how hungry you’d been up until now. Harwin ate more slowly, and you could feel his eyes on you. His gaze was usually something you could read, but today, a range of emotions seemed to be hidden behind gentle brown eyes.
“Alaric is growing fast.” You said, clearing your plate. “He is healthy, and the wetnurse says he’s one of the most intelligent babes she’s ever taken care of.”
“No doubt all thanks to you.” Harwin replied with a small smile. You snorted, trying to clear the table before Harwin stopped you and did so himself.
Harwin only sighed, letting the servants carry out the remainders of dinner. As they bustled around in the room, you saw some of them returning with buckets of hot water, filling your tub to the brim. Another servant carried a small tube with expensive oil, pouring some of it into the water.
You wanted to protest, but by the time you thought you had found the courage, Harwin had already sent the servants away.
He made to help you with your dress, and you wanted to stop him again.
“I reek.” You said.
“Precisely the purpose of this bath. And even so, you do not.” Harwin assured. “You have helped me bathe after long days of patrolling Flea Bottom. Please, let me help you.”
With a sigh, you nodded, letting Harwin unlace your dress. You pulled your shift over your head quickly, sinking into the hot water with a sigh. With a man like Harwin, no one would expect gentleness from him at first glance.
You had learned to expect just that. Carefully, he unwound your hair, taking out braids and pins until the pull on it disappeared and you felt as if you could breathe normally again. You rubbed your temples in annoyance.
The hair itself was not too bad, but wearing it for an entire day was a whole other story.
Harwin was already attending to it by the time you leaned back, carefully washing your tresses before he moved on to your shoulders, working the knots out of them. You sighed in relief, smiling up at him.
Gently, Harwin kissed your cheek before he returned to work, large hands kneading your neck and shoulders, before he began working on your back.
“Thank you for this.” You mumbled, and Harwin smiled.
“Anything for my lady.” He replied.
“I thought I was your queen.” You joked, and Harwin sighed.
“Oh gods, how could I forget. My lady, my queen. The mother of my child.”
You turned around, placing your arms onto the edge of the tub and looked up at Harwin again. He knelt down at the side of the tub, until his and your face were at one height. You kissed him without hesitation, letting Harwin hold you as he always did, his arms security in an unsure world as the Red Keep.
“I was going to keep going.” Harwin whispered, but the darkness in his pupils told you he was already thinking of something else. Your smile lingered for a moment, before you turned back around, excitement growing in your belly.
“Go on then.” You said calmly, your tone almost as commanding as his sometimes was. Harwin let out a rasp of a laugh, his hands dutifully returning to your shoulders. It did not escape your notice that he let them drift lower, fingers dipping below the water and ghosting over your chest. You tried not to shiver as a thrill ran through you.
Between everything, it had been too long.
You waited, anticipating Harwin’s next move as his hands dipped under the water, shamelessly palming your breasts. There was no way in all seven hells that you could let him know the effect he was already having on you. Yet.
As tension began to gather in your stomach, you bit down on your lower lip, hands not-so-idly playing with water.
Then, you sat up straight, sweetly asking Harwin for your towel. You swore you could hear him chuckling under his breath.
“My queen.” He said dryly, holding out the fabric for you. You stood, taking it from him calmly and wrapping yourself in the towel.
“Now that will not do.” Harwin mused.
“No?”
“Not at all. You look so much more beautiful without the towel.” Harwin replied. You were sure he could see your blush, and still, you maintained your façade.
“Really?” you managed, your voice shaky.
“Yes, really. I would never lie to my queen.”
You held out your hand, Harwin steadying you as you stepped out of your bath. He adjusted your towel, pulling it a little higher as if he cared for your modesty.
“Wouldn’t want my queen to be dressed improperly.” He said. You laughed at that, holding the towel with one hand and his face with the other, kissing him with a smile. You could feel him smiling as he kissed you back, and in that moment, you felt inexplicably relieved.
Soon, the kiss turned hungry, and Harwin was guiding you away from your already cold bath and towards your shared bed.
“There’s no need for a towel.” He rasped. “No need.”
You nodded, your hand dropping from your chest and instead steadying yourself on his. Quickly, you made work of his doublet, the thick garment dropping to the floor. Harwin broke the kiss, taking his time to look at you.
Long gone were the times where you would have covered yourself, now much too comfortable to think of your insecurities. Harwin would have incessantly reminded you of how beautiful he found you anyway, and, though you loved your husband, you had no time for talk tonight.
Harwin hoisted you up, setting you down on the bed as he undid his tunic and breeches. You laughed as he kissed up your stomach, his beard tickling you.
“What is it you want, my love? Hmm?” Harwin asked as he reached your neck.
“I don’t know.” You replied mindlessly, pulling him up to kiss you.
“That will not do.” Harwin sighed. “Good queens use their words to get what they want.”
You paused for a moment, trying to think through the thick haze of your mind. Then, you smiled at him.
“Do you remember our wedding night?” you asked quietly. You remembered how Harwin had spent what had to be hours between your legs, only to make sure that you were fully comfortable with him.
“How could I forget?” Harwin replied. “Is that what you want? For me to kiss your cunt until you’re squirming?”
You nodded, smiling at him perhaps too enthusiastically, for Harwin bared his teeth in a smile you knew you’d remember later on. His mouth wandered downwards, Harwin taking his time to mark you, sucking lovebites into your breasts and onto your thighs.
Impatiently, you tried to have him where you wanted him, but Harwin simply laughed against your inner thighs, the vibration just enough to be felt. He teased you, stretching minutes into an eternity as he kissed and licked your thighs, moving just around the points of pleasure you wanted him to be at.
He wants you to break down, to beg for it like a good wife, like the good little lady he trained you to be, and you’re too desperate not to. Your thighs wrap around his head in an attempt to push him down, but your husband is the strongest knight in all the Seven Kingdoms, and so, he only laughs.
“Please, Harwin.” You whine. “You promised. Please, please-“
It is little encouragement that he needs in order to return between your thighs, this time licking a stripe up your cunt that leaves you reeling. Despite what little he has done, you are ridiculously close.
His hands are everywhere, grasping yours, groping your breasts, pulling you closer, teasing you. They circle your hole, dipping inside of you carefully, almost experimentally. And then, he pushed inside of you, fingers curling up and your eyes rolled backwards, mouth open in a silent plea.
Suddenly, all the patience was gone from Harwin. It was always like this. He could control himself as long as you could, and when you lost control, truly began to squirm under him, he did not hold back any longer either. And why should he? You deserved this.
His mouth was on you in a feverish, obsessive way, Harwin licking you like he was a starving man. Before you could say anything else, he crooked his fingers up again, rubbing against that sweet spot and sucking your clit until you saw stars. The coil in your belly snapped, and you distantly heard yourself moaning his name.
Harwin did not stop, he kept going until you felt hot and the pleasure became too much.
“Please, Harwin, I can’t.” you gasped, and he paused, looking up at you.
“Already?” he laughed, his mouth back on you before you before you could answer, your nod left unseen.
“Please, Harwin, please. I need to-“ you gasped, and Harwin slowly lessened his onslaught, moving from your cunt to your thighs, until he was face to face with you again. His face glistened with your juices, and still, Harwin kissed you, letting you taste yourself on his tongue.
You grabbed his hips in a desperation to have him buried inside you, and Harwin obliged, filling you up so quickly that it left you gasping, hands pawing at his back as he thrust forward.
“Let us make another.” He said, eyes still dark, smile still predatory. How you loved seeing him like this.
“What?” you gasped, trying to catch your breath.
“We should make a baby.” He said. “A little sister for our son. Please, my love.”
You nodded almost automatically, and Harwin let his hand wrap around the back of your neck. He kissed you hungrily, as if he hadn’t already had enough from you, but you returned his actions with equal fervour.
“Gods, how I love you.” Harwin whispered, his kisses warm on your neck.
And when his movements became more uncoordinated, and Harwin’s hips began to stutter, you held him close, so incredibly close that it was easy to forget everything else.
“We should get married anew.” He said afterwards.
“And why is that?” you asked.
“I wouldn’t mind having this every night.” Harwin simply laughed. You felt that you were right where you needed to be.

"Get out," you demanded the moment you saw Rhaenyra with Jacaerys in her arms entering your chambers. You noticed how her smile seemed to tremble at your cold tone but you didn't care. If she didn't care about your feelings when she fucked your husband then you had no reason to care about hers.
You had to admit that Rhaenyra had been cautious enough to come when you were alone. If your mother had been with you you were sure that she would not have held her tongue and would have told the princess everything she thought of her. You could even see your mother dragging her by her hair to get her out of your chambers. A small smile appeared on your lips as you imagined the scene, that would be something to talk about in court. Although you would never let your mother lose her temper so much, she couldn't get on the king's bad side.
"Jacaerys wanted to meet his cousins," Rhaenyra said as if she hadn't heard you and sat down next to you. You moved as much as you could, wanting to make your displeasure clear. You couldn't go far since next to you was the basket where Aethan was sleeping there.
Of course, she was going to use her son as her excuse to see you. It wasn't the first time she had done it. Now that she knew that she had seen that you cared about Jacaerys—if it were up to you she would never have found out but one night the prince couldn't sleep no matter what Rhaenyra, Harwin, and Laenor did so your brother had the wonderful idea to take Jace with you, you managed to make him sleep by singing him the same song that you sang to him in the nursery before the perplexed gaze of your husband and the princess—I thought that through him he could get close to you again. But she was wrong.
"Jacaerys couldn't have told you that," you said, feeling Alyn begin to stir in your arms. A small part of you wished that he would start crying so the princess would leave but you knew that if he cried then Aethan would wake up and he would start crying too. You sighed and began to coo to your son, trying to ignore Rhaenyra's glare.
"But it's obvious that he's in a bad mood because he hasn't seen you in days," said the princess.
"Fine. He can stay, now you can go" you said, starting to think that you would have to call one of the maids to help you. You didn't like the idea but there was no way you could handle two newborns and a baby less than a year old alone.
"Y/n" Rhaenyra said your name with pure pain.
"What?" you said pointedly. You hated that she was doing this. You wanted to be calm with your children and she came to interrupt your little peace. No matter how many times you made it clear that you wanted nothing to do with her, the princess wouldn't stop insisting. And now she wanted to make you feel bad for her when you weren't the one who ruined everything between the two of you.
"Forgive me. Please, I just want everything to go back to the way it was before," Rhaenyra begged, if you hadn't had your son in your arms she would have taken your hands and kissed them like the two of you used to do when you were young whenever one of you had said or done something that had hurt the other.
"Rhaenyra, that will never happen," you said, starting to feel pain in your head.
"I miss you" You closed your eyes as you heard the princess's voice falter. “I love you,” you couldn’t help but let out a shaky breath. You decided to focus on your anger and ignore any other emotions you felt.
"You say that and you still fucked my husband," you said, opening your eyes and looking at her furiously.
"I handled the situation badly," she admitted, hugging Jace, trying not to break down in front of you. "I'm really sorry," she apologized again, feeling her heartache at your attitude. "I know I was wrong but I need you. I can't stand you hating me."
You'd like to say you weren't affected by hearing the desperation in Rhaenyra's voice but you'd be lying. You hated her. And you hate yourself for stopping her from affecting you. A part of you feared that deep inside you were still the young woman who loved the princess and lived to see her happy. You forced yourself to remember the whispers of the court at Jacaerys's hair color to erase any trace of pity you felt for the princess. She alone had caused this. She couldn't expect that with a simple apology, you would forget everything she did.
“You'll have to live with that for the rest of your life, Rhaenyra,” you said that because it was the truth, you weren't going to ever forgive her, but you also said it because you wanted to hurt her, you hoped she felt at least a part of the pain that she and Harwin gave you. “You had to think about it before betraying me”
“You betrayed me first!”
Rhaenyra's scream caused the three babies to start crying. If Jacaerys had not been in the princess's arms, you would have thrown the object closest to your reach at her. Who the hell did she think she was to come uninvited to your chambers and yell at you? Not only that, but she accused you of betraying her. You couldn't believe her audacity. It hadn't even been thirty minutes since she apologized to you and now she was yelling at you.
If the babies' cries weren't drilling into your head, perhaps you would have asked her to explain what the supposed betrayal you had committed was, but right now you just wanted her away so you could calm the twins down.
“Get out” you ordered and for once Rhaenyra listened to you. Of course, she had to leave slamming the door, making your children's cries even worse.

“I don't like them,” Aegon announced, looking with obvious disgust at Aethan, who was in your arms, and Alyn, who was being cooed by Alicent.
Perhaps another woman would have been offended or bothered by the little prince's comment but you couldn't help but laugh at the pout of his lips and his little wrinkled nose.
“Aegon!” Alicent instantly reprimanded him, making the boy even more upset.
“It's okay, my queen,” you reassured her with a smile. “Do you want to tell me why you don't like them?” you asked in a soft voice and settled better in your seat so you could hold Aethan well with one hand and thus be able to caress him with your other hand Aegon's hair.
The boy felt a little better at your sweet caresses. “Because of them you can't spend time with me and Sunfyre anymore,” he grumbled.
Since you gave birth to the twins you didn't go to the Dragon's Pit with Aegon. Now it was the dragon guardians who taught him how to care for and bond with Sunfyre. He didn't like that. Aegon wanted you to be next to him, he wanted to see your proud smile every time he pronounced a word in Valyrian correctly, he wanted you to take him to fly with you over Nightwing like you used to do every time he finished his lessons.
The worst thing was that every time Aegon wanted to spend time with you there was always someone else with you and there were the babies. You couldn't play with him or pay attention to him for long because one of the twins would always start crying or someone would turn their attention to the twins. Aegon didn't understand what people saw as interesting about the twins, they were just annoying babies who didn't know how to do anything but cry. Aegon just wanted to have his time alone with you again.
“Oh, my little prince, I miss spending time with you too” You kissed his cheek several times until Aegon began to laugh.
Alicent watched them both with a smile. It always warmed her heart every time she saw how you cared about her children and how loving you were towards them. She was sure that you cared more about her children than Viserys did. She knew you loved her children like they were your own. She could see it every time your face lit up when the children came running to hug you. She could see it in how you listened intently to Aegon and Helaena's ramblings. She could see it every time she found you in the nursery singing to Aemond and Daeron. She felt grateful for all those moments. She was grateful that there was someone who genuinely cared about her children.
“I promise you that once I recover I will go with you to the Dragon’s Pit.”
"But just the two of us! No annoying babies!" Aegon said, looking at you "seriously" as he pointed at you. You laughed again, the little prince's attitude made you tender.
“Aegon, you shouldn't talk about them like that. They are your family,” Alicent reminded him sternly, making you stop laughing and making the boy have a pout on his lips again.
Sometimes you felt that Alicent took everything too seriously and forgot that Aegon was just a child. It was obvious that he was just jealous that he couldn't spend time with you and it was the first time you'd heard him complain. You didn't like seeing Aegon being reprimanded just for acting his age. A child his age should be free to say what he thinks, he should spend more time playing instead of being pressured to attend lessons just because they thought it would impress his father. You didn't like it nor did you want to take away authority from Alicent's upbringing but sometimes you couldn't help but intervene because you didn't like how they pressured Aegon.
“You can say that they are annoying or anything you want, Aegon,” you said poking his nose with your finger making him smile a little “As long as we are alone” you quickly clarified before the queen's gaze “Besides I am sure that once they grow up and you can play with them you will like them”
Before the prince could answer you, the maester appeared to take the boy away since he had to start his lessons. You managed to convince Aegon to leave after you promised him that he could visit you again once he finished his lessons and that you would be waiting for him with his favorite sweets.
“How are you feeling?” Alicent asked once they were alone. She had been furious when one of her handmaidens informed her that Rhaenyra had come to see you. She had also noticed the dark circles under your eyes. She knew that the twins weren't letting you sleep much, she more than anything wanted to be able to help you but she was the queen and people would notice if she came to your chambers in the middle of the night.
“I'm tired but now that I've seen you and Aegon I'm happy” you admitted, resting your head on her shoulder and you closed your eyes, missing the blush on the queen's cheeks and the sweet smile that appeared on her face at your words.
You smiled as you felt Alicent's lips on your forehead. Not feeling satisfied, you stopped leaning on her shoulder so you could steal a kiss from her. You felt your chest warm at the familiarity of the sweetness of her lips.
Any discomfort that Rhaenyra caused you was forgotten with Alicent's kisses.

Again another night of crying. You didn't know how many minutes ago Aethan and Alyn were crying. You tried to feed them but none of them wanted to take your breast, you had already changed them but they still kept crying.
You rocked Alyn in your arms and with your foot from time to time, you lightly pushed the crib where Aethan was, hoping that the movement would tire him out. All this while you sing to them, trying to ignore the lump in your throat. You feel worthless for not being able to make your babies stop crying. It shouldn't be difficult to put them to sleep if you are their mother.
You jumped when you heard the door open. Your body tenses as you see your husband enter. Harwin had not come to your chambers since the birth of the twins. He never made a complaint or a reproach to you about your relationship with Larys, he stayed by your side and presented your children as a proud father before the court but he no longer went to your chambers. And you were okay with that because you didn't want him to keep insisting that you forgive him.
“What do you want?” you asked pointedly, not bothering to hide your annoyance at his sudden presence, hoping that would make him leave.
You were surprised to see that Harwin didn't seem affected by your tone like usual. You noticed the determination in his eyes and wondered what the hell had happened. Was he coming to argue with you because of how you spoke to Rhaenyra? If he dared to come in the middle of the night while your children were crying just to defend his lover you would kick his ass and let your mother scare him with Meleys.
“I heard the twins crying.”
“I'm sorry that my children don't let you sleep,” you interrupted him with obvious sarcasm. Trying not to think that if Harwin could hear them cry, so should other people. You didn't want to think about how tomorrow the court would talk about your inability as a mother.
“I came to help you” You were surprised by his words.
“Why?” you asked clearly defensively. Although you two knew that you really wanted to ask him, why would you help me with them when you are not their father?
“Because I care about you,” he said but you both knew he really wanted to tell you because I love you. You told yourself that you felt nothing as you saw the obvious love in Harwin's eyes. “You haven't slept well in days. I heard them cry for days and I know you, I know that every time you can't calm them down you are insulting yourself. "I can see right now how frustrated you are because you can't also pick up Aethan and comfort him as you would like."
The lump in your throat grew bigger. You hated that he knew you so well. But you weren't surprised after all he is your husband. Of course, he knew how you thought and how your mind worked. He had seen you in your most vulnerable states.
He had been so good to you but he had to ruin it all.
“Can I pick him up?”
It was silly but you really appreciated that he had asked instead of directly taking your baby in his arms. You nodded, not trusting your voice not to come out shaky.
You frowned as you watched Harwin take off his nightshirt.
“Jace calms down when he feels my skin,” Harwin was quick to clarify and get Aethan out of her crib before you decided to kick him out for thinking she was trying to seduce you. He felt you watching him intently as he placed the baby's small body against her chest. Of course, his crying didn't stop instantly but he seemed to calm down a little.
Your husband started singing the same song you were singing a few minutes ago. His Valyrian was rusty compared to yours. Once you are sure that your voice is not going to betray you, you accompany him in singing. You don't stop rocking Alyn as you watch Harwin pace around the room carefully holding your son. You relaxed as you saw that Aethan didn't look uncomfortable and how as the song continued he became calmer and calmer. It doesn't take long for Alyn to calm down when he sees that you are no longer upset.
Your eyes meet Harwin's and the two of you smile at each other. And Harwin can't help but think that this is where he belongs.

Hello, dear reader. I'd like to make a wish for Rhaenyra's little sister, maybe a year or two. And she never liked Alicent, who after marrying the king tries (along with Otto) to demote her to bastard status (but Viserys loves his little girl too much to do this to her). Of course, things get even worse when Rhaenyra's sister gets engaged to Harwin...
Thank you for your attention, I like your stories 🫶🏻. Another thing, can I stop by more often? I wish I had more of my ideas adorned with your writing

A life of a princess was something to envy. Well so many had claimed however after the death of your mother life felt like an ever falling spiral. Your sister began to grow closer to Alicent after the death and while you were happy for her to have a friend Alicent had always been unkind to you.
It had started small with her asking Rhaenyra not to let you join in their games to her unpicking your needle work whenever you would wander off to stretch your legs. Soon you gave up on even trying to be nice to her. anytime she was invited to dinner was met with loud sighs from you.
“Why does she hate me?” you pouted one night as Rhaenyra upbraided your hair.
Your sister rolled her eyes as she began to brush your hair out, “She doesn’t hate you. she’s just not used to a little sister,”
“She’s mean,”
“Cmon she isn’t that bad?”
-
You didn’t want to say I told you so when Alicent was betrothed to your father but the look on your face said it for you. at least Rhaenyra was able to marry and move away. you were instead stuck living at court with your evil stepmother and her spawn. Well, the children were kind to you, but Alicent constantly used them to get under your skin.
She’d send toddler Aegon running over with pretend crown shouting that he was going to be king. Or she would have a 2-year-old Aemond claim he was your husband. She tried to make Helena spill wine on your dress one time, but the poor girl burst into tears and confessed to you instantly.
Instead Alicent settled on insisting that your chambers were given to Aegon. Something you managed to convince your father against from at first but soon you were moved to a wing of the castle usually just for guests. You would’ve complained about longer if you hadn’t realised your new chambers window overlooked the kings guard training ground.
From your window you’d pretend to be doing needle work while secretly watching break bones fling any man that challenged him like a rag doll. Eventually Harwin caught onto your staring and would send his own glimpses up between sparring. It was also handy that your chamber was only a short walk from the guards’ sleeping quarters and Harwin soon became a frequent private guest of yours.
-
“Ser Barros is coming to court next week,” your father told you over a family dinner, “and I heard his son is looking for a wife,” he said, shooting you a hopeful glance.
“I heard he’s a fine man father,” you said kindly knowing full well it didn’t matter. Somehow every match they tried to make for you was sabotaged. The tall dark Baratheon boy was ever so keen for weeks for your hand then one day disappeared like a ghost. The gorgeous Lannister man that would bring you fine jewels suddenly decided a dornish match was of more importance. Even the Tarly boy you had courted had inexplicitly decided to join the nights watch. Every time Alicent wore the same twisted smile.
The only ones she didn’t send running were the incredibly old and decrepit looking men from minor houses, but it wasn’t hard to convince your father they weren’t suitable matches. “Perhaps we should set up a luncheon to great the boy,” Alicent suggested making your father smile widely. She really had twisted him around her finger.
-
“I wish I could stay here all day,” you pouted as you lay your head on Harwin’s bare chest.
His chuckle vibrated through you as his arm wrapped tight around your waist, “Me too princess but I have my duties and you have yours,”
“I thought your duty was to serve me,” you sighed dramatically, pretending to try get away.
Harwin laughed, his arms moving to cage you against the bed as he moved to lay over you, “I think I serve you just fine princess,” he said, his lips moving to kiss along your jaw.
“Oh yeah?” you asked and Harwin hummed in response as his kisses grew lower.
-
As expected Borros’s son went running after only a week and now you were in another awkward family dinner however unluckily for you the children all had the cold so now you were sat in stoney silence with just your father and Alicent. “You should really think about your future dear,” she said with a fake sweet smile, “We worry for you,”
Instead of replying you grabbed your wine, drinking a hefty sip of it. Viserys sighed, “Alicent is right dear. You must marry. At this point we’re going to have to start considering marrying you to a tree!” he said, flinging himself back in his chair. “Honestly what even happened between you and the boy?”
-
The days that followed were awkward to say the least. Alicent walked around smug as all hell and your father continued to sulk. You decided enough was enough and when Alicent went out to the sept you decided to track your father down. Unsurprisingly you found him staring over a model of the city.
“Father?” you greeted, walking closer to the tired looking man, “May we talk?”
“Of course, sweet child,” he said, nodding for you to sit beside him before sighing, “You know I worry for you?”
“I do father, and I do appreciate it,” you lied but did your best to look sympathetic to your clueless father, “but I was thinking. Well. I found another match you see father,” you spoke, and his head perked up as he waited for you to finally spit it out, “He’s sweet and kind and his family is well respected. You even like his father, and I was just thinking- “
“Out with-it child,”
You took a breath before finally asking, “Have you considered Harwin Strong yet father?” Viserys sighed, his eyes turning away but you continued, “Think about it! I’d be able to be at court and help Helena with her studies. Plus, you have four more children so four more matches. You already have the Velaryon which secures the crownlands. Harwin and I would secure the Riverlands. Then after you betrothed Helena, Aegon, Aemond, and Daeron you will have six of the seven kingdoms on your side. Your reach will go far especially if our children do the same,”
“You want to dilute the blood of old Valyria?” he asked, sounding exhausted as he spoke.
“No father, only strengthen it,” you said, moving to hold his hand, “Besides there is no other Targaryen or Velaryon to wed unless uncle daemon is brought back from exile- “you said but your father raised his hand to hush you.
He paused for a moment before nodding, “I will think about it. but for now, leave me. I have a lot to consider,”
“Thank you, father,”
-
Apparently Alicent must have missed this chamber meeting because somehow the news came back finally in your favour. Harwin would be your husband. You were so happy when your father told you that you instantly hugged him before rushing to find Harwin however that night at dinner Alicent shot you many dirty looks.
Finally, you had undermined her. you’d won. Well, that’s how it felt at first, but her glares began to sink into your skin till it itched. As the dinner ended, she tapped her cup with her fork, “A toast to my dear sweet daughter,” she smiled at you making your father beam, “May she have a marriage like ours,” she said, holding his hand tightly but you felt your stomach flutter.
“Here, here,” your father said, standing to kiss your cheek.
Alicent did the same, her arms twisting round your back into a bony hug, “Do not forget yourself darling,” she whispered sweetly in your ear, “You don’t win that easily,”

Pretty like the sun
warnings: reader described as having long, silver hair; no use of y/n; female!reader; Targaryen!reader; sneaking around with harwin; little sliver of angst but that’s it; fluff; not proofread sorry
summary: you spend a morning with harwin.
author’s note: I miss harwin strong. that is all.
The soft, early morning light poked through the thin fabric covering your window. You stirred in bed, eyes scrunching tighter together as you attempted to will yourself back asleep.
“Good morning,” Harwin’s chest rumbled with the sound of his voice. He was almost whispering, as if afraid to spook you. One of his hands trailed up your back, his fingers ghosting over your bare skin.
“Mhm,” you grumbled, refusing to open your eyes. You snuggled closer to his side, your head laid right over his heart. The reassuring rhythm of its beat brought a small smile to your lips.
“What time is it?” You asked after a moment of comfortable silence, your eyes still closed. You could feel the heat of the sun now, its rays more intense as it rose in the sky.
“Almost time for me to go,” he replied. The hand trailing up your spine moved to rest in your hair, his fingers lightly scratching at your scalp. His free hand moved over your body, looping around you and pulling you impossibly closer.
It was always like this in the mornings you spent together. Hushed words and warm touches. The two of you tangled together, holding each other as close as possible. This time was sacred to the both of you. It was stolen from the rest of the Keep, something just for the two of you to share, damning the rest of them.
“Do you have to?” You asked, but you already knew the answer as you finally opened your eyes. You tilted your head back to look up at your lover. His eyes met yours, and he gave a small smile as he nodded.
“You know I do, Princess. I cannot be caught in here, your father would have my head.”
You rolled your eyes as you turned your head to plant a kiss to his sternum. He hummed in contentment.
“You underestimate my power in this keep, Ser. At most, my father would have your finger. Maybe a hand, if it were a bad day for the King,” you grinned as you teased him, meeting his gaze once more.
It was Harwin’s turn to roll his eyes now. His fingers dug deeper into your scalp, massaging the skin there. You groaned and swatted his hand away, knowing his actions would put you back to sleep.
As much as you wanted to succumb to the welcoming embrace of slumber once more, you knew you’d regret it. Harwin wouldn’t want to wake you, and so he’d slip from the room quietly, depriving you of the chance to wish his farewell. You despised it when he did that– and he knew as much, yet he still tried.
He told you once that he hated seeing the look in your eyes as he left, and that’s why he tried to lull you back to sleep. He didn’t want to watch the sadness and anger seep into your expression as it did every time he snuck away.
It wasn’t sadness and anger aimed towards him, of course. It was at this whole situation– the fact that you two had to hide your affections. The King had made it quite clear you were to remain untouched and unmarried until your sister, Rhaenyra, found a match.
You disobeyed his wishes, but what the King didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him– at least that’s what you believed.
“Where do they have you stationed today?” You questioned the man below you as you turned your gaze to the villainous window that disturbed the peace the night gave both of you. “Guarding ‘Nyra again?”
“Guarding you, actually,” he said, and you sighed.
Having your lover guard you was a double-edged sword. You were with him all day, but you were not allowed to truly be with him. It was almost torture, how the man you loved was right beside you and you couldn’t touch him. You couldn’t even speak to him the way you wanted. You had to remain proper, as did he, and you had to keep up this carefully constructed facade of a princess and her loyal guard.
“You do not wish to be accompanied by me today?” He asked, and you finally pushed yourself up, your hand resting on his chest to support yourself.
The arm he had looped around you fell, his grip now at your waist. His thumb caressed the skin there as he watched your face with concern. His other hand remained in your hair, moving to brush strands of silver from your eyes.
“You know that is not the issue,” you told him.
“Sometimes it is the issue. Remember just a fortnight ago, when you asked for another guard just because I slipped out the night before?”
“You did not tell me you had to go,” you said as you shuffled over to the other side of the bed. His hands retracted from your body to let you move.
“I was not aware I needed to ask your permission to get a glass of water,” he retorted, and you scoffed.
“The last time you snuck out during the night, it was because you were sent to guard my sister for her two week journey to see whoever that lord was. Lannister? Baratheon? I do not recall— but it does not matter. You did not tell me you were leaving!”
“Love–” he began, but you spoke again.
“No, I know, Harwin. You did not know either. I am not trying to fight,” you reached a hand towards him, which he clasped in one of his own. His fingers intertwined with yours, and you smiled.
“I just worry for you. I fear one day you will slip out before I can say goodbye, and I will never see you again.”
Harwin frowned, his eyes trained on you as he gave your hand a small squeeze. You inhaled deeply. “I do not want to keep sneaking around,” you admitted.
“Nor do I, but–” he began.
“But we must,” you finished his sentence with a sigh. “Just until my sister finally meets her match. Which will probably be after we are all dead.”
Harwin laughed and used his grip on your hand to pull you back into him. You gave a sound of surprise as you fell onto his chest, both his hands snaking around your body to keep you glued to him.
“The Princess will wed soon, my love. Your father will make sure of it. And if not, then I am sure you will make sure of it. Gods help Rhaenyra if it gets to that point. You are quite scary when you are angry.”
“As scary as Daemon?” You questioned, your eyebrows raised as you glanced up at Harwin. A teasing grin painted your lips.
“Oh, much scarier. The Rogue Prince wishes he was as terrifying as you.”
“Careful, Ser,” you giggled. “My uncle would feed you to Caraxes for such an insult.”
“It would be an honorable death, dying to defend my Princess.”
You shuffled upwards so that your face was right above his. Your hair fell around the both of you, creating another barrier the sun streaming through the window fought to break through.
“You are insufferable,” you whispered, your nose brushing his.
“Am I?” He asked with a grin.
“Mhm,” you hummed in answer before lowering your lips to his.
The kiss lasted a few wonderful, peaceful seconds before a sobering knock sounded at the door.
“Princess!” Your lady-in-waiting called from behind the door, her knock becoming louder as she tried to rouse you. Unbeknownst to her, you were very awake at the moment.
Your eyes widened as you looked down at your lover who was very much naked, very much still in your bed, and very much late to his post.
“Princess, are you awake? Are you in there? I don’t see Ser Harwin out here. Are you alright?” You could hear panic begin to sneak into the woman’s tone. You knew how it looked to her– a locked door, no guard, and a silent princess? She probably thought you were dead.
You pulled yourself from Harwin’s embrace once more and hurried out of bed, reaching for the night clothes you had discarded the night before. Harwin followed suit in rushing from bed. He began grabbing at clothes and armor, trying to be silent but quick as he redressed.
“I’m awake!” You shouted to your lady-in-waiting as you ran a hand through your hair. You turned to watch as Harwin gave up on buttoning his shirt and began gathering his armor in his hands.
“You have got to go!” You whisper-shouted at him.
“I am trying! This damn armor–” he groaned as he nearly dropped his metal chest plate. You cringed as you watched his barely catch it, releasing a breath you didn’t know you’d been holding. That sound would’ve had your lady busting down your door in an instant.
“Princess, are you alright in there?” You heard your lady ask as the door knob jiggled.
“Quite!” You yelled back, your pitch rising in panic. You rushed to Harwin’s side and began snatching up the remaining pieces of his armor. You ushered him to the secret passage in your room, prying open the door and all but pushing him inside. “Just looking for something!”
You pushed the armor in your hands into Harwin’s, who was looking at you with a wide grin.
“What?” You asked incredulously, curious as to how he could be smiling at being nearly caught.
“Looking a little disheveled, Princess.”
“Gods, go!” You scolded him with no real bite to your words. You shoved at his broad shoulders, careful not to disturb the mountain of metal in his arms.
He gave a quiet laugh as he swiftly ducked down to kiss your forehead. “See you soon, Princess.”
With that, he disappeared down the dark passageway and you all but slammed the door closed. You quickly concealed it once more before smoothing down your nightdress, taking a deep breath, and opening the door for your lady-in-waiting.
“Gods, I thought you were being killed!” She cried, her voice shrill as she surged into the room.
You gave a breathless laugh as you shut the door behind her, noticing a forgotten trinket of Harwin’s laying on the stone floor. You swiftly kicked it under your wardrobe before your lady turned to face you.
“Where was Ser Harwin? He was not by your door,” she questioned as she began to assess your appearance.
“Oh, I sent him to fetch me a glass of water well before you arrived. He never returned. I suppose he was roped into something more important.”
“Hm,” your lady hummed, unconvinced, but she didn’t press the topic further.
The two of you fell into comfortable silence as you went through your routine of dressing.
Finally, as your lady finished clasping a ruby necklace around your neck, she cleared her throat to speak.
“Did he at least take all his armor with him this time?”
Your cheeks turned a deep red, and your lady laughed.
