Mini React.js Tips #1 | Resources ✨

I thought why not share my React.js (JavaScript library) notes I made when I was studying! I will start from the very beginning with the basics and random notes I made along the way~!

Up first is what you'll need to know to start any basic simple React (+ Vite) project~! 💻

What you'll need:

node.js installed >> click

coding editor - I love Visual Studio Code >> click

basic knowledge of how to use the Terminal

What does the default React project look like?

Step-by-Step Guide

[ 1 ] Create a New Folder: The new folder on your computer e.g. in Desktop, Documents, wherever that will serve as the home for your entire React project.

[ 2 ] Open in your coding editor (will be using VSCode here): Launch Visual Studio Code and navigate to the newly created folder. I normally 'right-click > show more options > Open with Code' on the folder in the File Explorer (Windows).

[ 3 ] Access the Terminal: Open the integrated terminal in your coding editor. On VSCode, it's at the very top, and click 'New Terminal' and it should pop up at the bottom of the editor.

[ 4 ] Create the actual React project: Type the following command to initialize a new React project using Vite, a powerful build tool:

npm create vite@latest

[ 5 ] Name Your Project: Provide a name for your project when prompted.

[ 6 ] Select 'React' as the Framework: Navigate through the options using the arrow keys on your keyboard and choose 'React'.

[ 7 ] Choose JavaScript Variant: Opt for the 'JavaScript' variant when prompted. This is the programming language you'll be using for your React application.

[ 8 ] Navigate to Project Folder: Move into the newly created project folder using the following command:

cd [your project name]

[ 9 ] Install Dependencies: Execute the command below to install the necessary dependencies for your React project (it might take a while):

npm install

[ 10 ] Run the Development Server: Start your development server with the command (the 'Local' link):

npm run dev

[ 11 ] Preview Your Project: Open the link provided in your terminal in your web browser. You're now ready to witness your React project in action!

Congratulations! You've successfully created your first React default project! You can look around the project structure like the folders and files already created for you!

I dont like when guys ask me out, because the answer is always no. And the answer never changes; and I doubt it ever will. My coworkers are all married or in a relationship with someone even at the bookstores. Hell, the sixteen-year old has had a boyfriend longer than I've been working there.

For a time I believed it to be asexuality, but thats not what it was. I still think; dream and hope for someone to love me, but thats just what I don't want. I used to be able to see myself getting married to someone; when I was nine and didn't know how horrible my parents marriage was to each other.

When I was nineteen I thought something was wrong with me, I was stuck in the thought that I was unloveable. I want to date; dating would be fun. But dating leads to marriage and to me. Marriage means being trapped, and I don’t do being trapped.

The guy from last week comes in again, a little more flushed and with a friend this time. He’s nervously chewing his lip and looking over at his friend for reassurance, “no dude, chicks dig Romeo and Juliet, I’m sure that’ll get you a yes” I overhear a tall bald guy say as he assuringly pats or slaps the brunettes back.

His hands are shaking as he gently places the hardback copy of Romeo and Juliet, “just this” he quietly mumbles looking down at the cover, “have you read it?”

“Yeah, a few times but I’ve never been to fond of that kinda romance” I reply as what I assume his friend shakes his shoulder in a brocode way I have yet to understand.

“Really?” His voice pitches up, “w-what you uh— uh why?” He frantically questions his entire face pales

“Uh oh, I really hope you’re not setting a date on Romeo and Juliet for christs sake” I murmur, “not speaking for every girl but, it felt too quick. How can you know if you really love someone in just barely a week” I clarify, “I just” I shrug not finishing my thought, “do you still want to get it?”

“Uh.. maybe” he looks down and taps his thumbs against the counter, “what romance books do you recommend?”

I grin, wide and toothy because this is my favorite question and thing to ever talk about, “oh boy am I glad you asked. Liz, will you cover me?” I request and she nods.

I take his hand and lead him to the classics, Jane Austen, Emily Brönte, Charles Dickens. “A lot of these are like classic books but Jane Austen is really the one you want to woo a girl”

“I’m very positive no one says ‘woo’ anymore” his friend juts in and Mat as I remember faintly; gives him a dirty look.

“Whatever. Pride and prejudice is my all time favorite” I say; gently pulling my baby out of her shelf.

“Wow.. I think my sister’s made me see the movie” He faintly says; I can barely hear anything over the beat of my heart.

“Which version?” I ask nervously

“I think the 2005 version” and I almost sigh in relief, “is that good”

“Very. Very good”

He smiles at me and his friend nods as I lead them back to the register, “that’s everything right?” I ask scanning the books

“Yes, uh yeah” He smiles nervously and goes back to chewing his lip, “you know how the uh New Jersey Devils are playing against the Islanders tomorrow night?” He asks handing me his card

“Yeah… Why?”

“I uh, I’ve got by the ice tickets and I was gonna have one of my friends come with me but he— his wife just had their baby so you know.. and you like hockey and I like hockey so it might be— nice if you wanted to go with me?” He blabs out, nearly gasping for breath after finishing, then he continues, “you don’t have to come— obviously I know it’s last minute and you probably have plans with someone or uh yeah..”

“No.. I don’t have plans tomorrow night”

“Great— I mean not great that you don’t have plans but great that you can come with me” He nervously chides

I laugh and smile, “I would really, really love to go to the game with you” I confess.

“Yay, just uh do you get breaks?” He asks

“Yeah, I’m just about due for a break”

We stand outside together; his poor friend long forgotten, “what’s going on?” I ask sitting at one of the small tables and drinking some tea.

“Ok uh, I..” He flushed and puts his head in his hands, “I won’t be sitting with you.. I’ll be on the ice…”

“Oh. Wait what?” I ask, looking up at him as he tangles his hands into his hair, “what do you mean you won’t be sitting with me?”

“I’m not just a hockey fan. I play. Hockey I play on the Islanders.. those who have girlfriends or wives get to invite them to games and I know we’re not- I’m not implying that but uh you like hockey and I thought it might be nice” he chokes out

“Ok so— what?” I gasp out, “I didn’t think you were much a joker” I’m fighting back laughter

“I’m serious”

“Oh”

“Its totally fine if you don’t want to come anymore but uh. Yeah” he shrugs rubbing his eyes nervously and chewing his lip cracked.

“I mean.. I haven’t been to a game in a while… so.. yeah that would be nice” I shrug

He sighs a big sigh and nearly flips the table with his weight before righting it.

“Can I get your number then? So I can pick you up.. I’ll bring you a jersey” He requests sliding his phone out

“Yea” I pick his phone up and type my number in, setting my contact name and typing in a hello with his name.

“I will see you.. at 5 thirty ish?” He asks, “and don’t worry about eating before, actually maybe eat a bit but I want to take you out to dinner after”

I smile and brush my hair out of my face, “should I wear leggings? Jeans?”

“Uh.. long pants probably, jeans would look good”

“Thank you, I will see you tomorrow night”

“It’s a date”

And I don’t have the heart to tell him that it’s not.. because I’m too scared to fall in love. Or to even risk it.

I do not care for the canon/implied canon ships. All of them are really bland or r just kinda shitty.

Technically not canon, but have canonically flirted with each other during the course of the show outside of flashbacks, and have support from the writers I believe. Wu and Misako. Like ok, yeah you liked her a decade or two ago, but that was still your brothers wife. The mother of your child. Being in a romantic relationship has to go against several brocodes. It's really iffy on Misako side too, because she's openly flirted with Wu while Garmadon was still alive. (Granted kinda evil, but still, they officially were still together. She still identified as her wife.)

Skylor and Kai: Girl x boy. Skylor really lacks any personality of her own. In the series, only being mentioned or referenced when shes necessary for the plot. (can't speak for the books, or any spinoffs) Skylor and Kai have canonically been in a relationship since the end of crystalized, and skylor hasn't been mentioned at all in Dr. Not even a quick "Reminds me of kjdfdfkhdfsh" Nothing. Even in the original series she was never referenced unless plot relevant. And it just gives the impression that Kai doesn't really care about her. She said it herself, that he's never contacted her. His excuse being that he's never had the time to, when there are times in the show where it's pretty obvious he did have time to see her, or at least call.

Jay and Nya: Just kinda bland, and feels like the obligatory girl x boy ship, because they can't just have a girl in the group and have her not be in a relationship. Gotta make sure they don't pass the bechdel test.

Lloyd and Harumi: I don't think I need to elaborate this.

Cole and Geo: They're just kinda boring. Geo doesn't stand out as a character and is just kind of unremarkable outside of being Cole's boyfriend.

Zane and Pixal: ngl I have nothing to say about them, they're cute. But personally, I believe their romanced could have been introduced better, because the instant attraction trope just sort of is a way of straight up telling your audience that this character was made just to be a love interest. Which pixal was sort of forced to be until later seasons, due to being Zane's version of Siri post season four.

The Brocode - Lee Taeyong x Park Jisung

[a/n: after months of posting the masterlist, here is the first part to my Jisung series! hope you all enjoy!] / masterlist

RULE #29 OF THE BROCODE: A BRO SHOULD ALWAYS SUPPORT ANOTHER BRO’S DREAM

Jisung is small and timid his first days at SM Entertainment. He’s one of the younger trainees and he knows he has big shoes to fill.

EXO, Super Junior, BoA, Red Velvet

Jisung stares at the giant posters on the wall and sighs, head hung low.

He really had his work cut out for him. And if he wanted to be known as more than just the “cute little new trainee”, he would have to prove himself.

It’s late. He’s drenched in sweat. His legs are shaking from how hard he’s been dancing when he sees him. He knows him. He’s just debuted in SM’s newest group.

Lee Taeyong.

He’s met him a couple of times before. SM Rookies put them together for a couple of videos but he’s never really seen him outside of that.

Lee Taeyong, in Jisung’s opinion, is one of the elite. He can dance, rap, his stage presence is outstanding and besides that, he thinks the man is secretly half beast.

“Shouldn’t you be in bed?” the older one smiles.

Jisung shoots up from where he had been squating over an iPad, bowing quickly at the elder. “Uh, yeah. Sorry, hyung. I was just-“

Taeyong raises his hands. “I know, I know. You’re chasing your dream like the rest of us.” He smiles and pats the younger one on the head. “But you should still get some rest. Can’t debut if you get yourself sick, hm?” Jisung blushes, a little annoyed by how he’s being treated like a baby once again. “Maybe you should run along. Okay? There’s always tomorrow.” Taeyong turns to leave when the younger’s voice stops him.

“But hyung!” Jisung almost shouts as he’s reaching for the door. Taeyong turns and raises his eyebrows. He backs down a little, scratching the back of his head. “It’s just...what you just said.”

“About your health?”

“No,” he shakes his head. Taeyong turns to him fully now, crossing his arms. He feels a bit intimidated, if he’s being honest. But Jisung wants to be taken seriously. He’s tired of being the “cute” trainee and nothing more. “You said we’re all chasing the same dream, Hyung.”

“Yeah,” he nods.

“So if that’s the case, why should I even sacrifice a minute of practice?” Jisung asks. “I’m obviously not the only one who wants this. I’m not the only one who wants to debut. So shouldn’t I work as hard as I can to prove that I deserve to go up on stage?” The older’s face is unreadable as he goes on. “I mean, you said it yourself. I’m cute. But being cute doesn’t cut it in this industry. I don’t want to be cute. I want to be an idol. I want to debut. I don’t want to be in the basement for another year. And I’ll sacrifice anything to get to where I want to be.”

It’s the first time Jisung’s ever said something like this. Most of the time, he’s soft spoken. He agrees to everything and always follows the rule. But there’s something about looking at Lee Taeyong, the man who has been by his side since SM Rookies, that makes his heart almost want to leap out of his chest.

He wants what Taeyong has.

He wants to be an idol.

And after a moment of silence, a smile grows across Taeyong’s face.

“This is why I’ve always admired you,” Taeyong says, catching the younger off gaurd. “There’s this saying that I’ve heard once. I actually heard it from Lay himself. He said, ‘the harder you work, the luckier you are.’ And if that’s the case...” he trails off for a second before stretching his back. “Alright.”

“Alright?”

“Show me what you’re working on.”

“What?” Jisung sputters.

“You said you wanna be an idol, right? Then c’mon. Show me what you’ve got,” Taeyong says. Jisung must have looked confused because Taeyong then goes on to say, “You were right. You should stand out if you want to make it in this industry. Cute doesn’t always cut it. So how about you and I practice together every other day? I can give you pointers.”

“But...aren’t you busy?”

Taeyong smiles. “Think of it like this. We’re bros. And a bro should always support his bro’s dream.” He claps him on the shoulder then shoos him off. “C’mon now. Let’s get this going so you can finally rest. I’m serious about taking care of your health.”

So they do just that.

They practice. Taeyong gives Jisung pointers on how he should improve and Jisung applies them almost instantly. Taeyong is almost surprised with how fast Jisung is picking things up. And Jisung is thankful that for once, someone isn’t holding back.

Taeyong criticizes him. He doesn’t treat him like that fragile, cute trainee that everyone seems to shelter. There are times during their lessons where Jisung wants to cry out in frustration but Taeyong assures him that this is for the best.

That’s why when Jisung leaves his meeting, he runs and finds Taeyong first.

“Hyung! Hyung! Guess what?” Jisung bounces up and down. “I’m debuting! I’m finally gonna debut! I’m gonna be in a group with Mark hyung! I’m finally doing it! And it’s all because of you, hyung!”

Taeyong smiles proudly. He’s already heard the news from Mark. But his heart beats a little more proudly when he sees the light in Jisung’s eyes.

“Is that so?” he ruffles his hair. “Should we go and celebrate? Let hyung buy you some dinner.” Jisung suddenly wraps his arms around his waist, catching Taeyong off gaurd. It takes him a moment to realize what’s going on before he relaxes. “Hey,” he smiles, hugging him back.

“Thank you,” the younger one breathes. “I wouldn’t be here without you, hyung.”

Taeyong chuckles. “What are bros for?” They stay like that, hugging in the middle of the hallway a while longer, before Jisung finally pulls away. “Let’s walk along this road for a long time, okay Jisung?”

And from that day on, Jisung kept his promise to walk down this wild journey as an idol with Taeyong by his side. Maybe they were in different groups and maybe they didn’t always see each other but knowing that they would represent the NCT brand together was more than enough for the both of them.

Because not only were they both bandmates under the same branch, Jisung knew he would always have bro to look after him.

the car ride to his apartment was silent. once in the car he found some tissue in his glove compartment, so that stopped the bleeding a bit. you weren’t sure what to say or if saying anything would help. all of this felt like your fault and the guilt is slowly eating away at you.

once you reach his apartment, it is still quiet between you two. suna is never this quiet, which worries you even more. maybe he blames you too.

you stand awkwardly in the middle of his living room. you came here to help patch him up but now you’re not sure he even wants you here. you shift uncontrollably as you watch him walk towards his bathroom, leaving you behind.

he stops as if he realizes you aren’t following him. he turns back to you, confusion clear on his face.

“you coming? i thought you were gonna patch me up?” he playfully pouts as he says it.

relief washes over you. it’s clear that he’s at least not angry with you. if he blames you is another situation. you silently walk towards him and he leads you into his bathroom.

at this point, you’ve been in his bathroom multiple times so you pretty much know where everything is. suna is oddly very organized. he keeps his sink clean except for a bottle of hand soap and a candle that you bought him.

suna takes a seat on the lid of the toilet seat. you bend down to rummage through his sink cabinet in search of his first aid kit. once you find it you place it on his sink. you place gloves on your hands before beginning. you take a cleaning wipe and some gauze to soak up the blood.

“tilt your head back.”

he complies, his nose angled up towards you. the tissue that he shoved in his nose is completely blood now. you slowly pull the bloody tissue from his nose with a gloved hand. once it’s free, blood begins to trickle from his bruised nose again. he winces in pain, his eyes watering a bit.

“i’m sorry,” you whisper.

you take the cleansing wipe and softly wipe his nose. he winces a bit more when you wipe again the bruise that’s forming. the more you assess the damage that osamu did the more you have to hold back your tears. you notice that the bleeding has stopped so you wipe what’s left.

the tears that you were holding back fail to stay in your eyes. suna watches as one tear falls down your cheek. he slowly grabs your wrist, stopping you from wiping his nose.

“baby, why are you crying?”

you close your eyes and shake your head, embarrassed to be crying in front of him. you don’t want to tell him why you’re crying. what if he does say he blames you?

“it’s nothing.”

your voice is quieter and more broken than you expected. suna’s eyes soften.

“tell me. please.”

his soft eyes coax you into telling him the truth. he moves his hand down from your wrist to hold your hand.

“this is all my fault. i should’ve done something-“

“done what? and no this is not your fault. osamu made his own choice and that has nothing to do with you.”

despite how angry he sounds his voice is low. when you don’t respond he stands up to meet you at your level. he places his hands on either side of your face.

“look at me, pretty. i need you to understand that it’s not your fault.”

he whispers as if there were someone else in his apartment that could hear. you wrap your hands around his wrist, finding comfort in touching him.

“okay.”

he smiles warmly at you. he pulls you towards him by the sides of your face. he attaches his lips to yours. his lips are soft and warm like usual. the kiss becomes more heated and suna pulls you impossibly closer to him.

you softly moan into the kiss, your grip on his wrists becoming tighter. theres a heat in your chest that begins to burn. the closeness and the intensity of the kiss makes your heart rate pick up.

you two have never been this intimate before, only short make-outs and cuddling. something about this kiss feels different and it makes you feel alive.

the hold he has on your face loosens. he pulls his hands from your grip and wraps his arms around your waist. you mimic his actions, your hands meet in the middle of his back. you softly run your fingernails against the fabric that covers his back.

the action causes a whine to erupt from his throat.

Continuing the #mini react tips series, its components making time~!

In React, a component is like a Lego brick for building websites or apps. It's a small, independent part of the user interface (UI) that you can reuse whenever you need it. These components can be combined to create bigger and more complex applications. Examples are the header, footer, cards, asides, etc!

What you'll need:

know how to create a React project >> click

know the default React project's file structure >> click

know basic HTML

know basic JavaScript

basic knowledge of using the Terminal

What We Are Creating:

The footer at the bottom!

[ 1 ] Navigate to the 'src' Folder: Open your project in Visual Studio Code, locate the 'src' folder, and right-click on it.

[ 2 ] Create a New File: Click 'New File' to create the file within the 'src' folder. This file will house the code for your React component.

[ 3 ] Naming Conventions: Give your component a name, according to the convention of starting with a capital letter. This naming convention is essential for React to recognize your component~!!

[ 4 ] Create The Initial Function: Open the file and type:

export default function [name of component]() {}

[ 5 ] Insert The return() Statement: The statement is used within a component to specify what content should be rendered when the component is invoked or used. Type:

return()

*the error is there because we haven't added anything inside yet, don't worry!

[ 6 ] Insert The Empty Tags: Inside of the return(), add empty tags (tags that don't have a specified element inside of them).

[ 7 ] Time For Some HTML: Inside the empty tags, enter the normal HTML elements that you want~!

[ 8 ] Integration with App.jsx: Navigate to the 'App.jsx' file in the project, which is typically the entry point of your React application. At the top, import your newly created component. Type:

import [name of component] from './[location of the component]'

[ 9 ] Use Your Component: Inside the return() statement of the 'App()' function, include your component using the following syntax:

<[name of your component] />

[ 10 ] Run the Development Server: Start your development server with the command (the 'Local' link):

npm run dev

[ 11 ] Preview Your Project: Open the link provided in your terminal in your web browser. Witness your component in action!

Congratulations! You made your first component! Try and create some new ones and place them around in the App()~!

Continuing the #mini react tips series, it's time to understand what is going on with the folders and files in the default React project - they can be a bit confusing as to what folder/file does what~!

What you'll need:

know how to create a React project >> click

already taken a look around the files and folders themselves

What does the file structure look like?

✤ node_modules folder: contains all the dependencies and packages (tools, resources, code, or software libraries created by others) needed for your project to run properly! These dependencies are usually managed by a package manager, such as npm (Node Package Manager)!

✤ public folder: Holds static assets (files that don't change dynamically and remain fixed) that don't require any special processing before using them! These assets are things like images, icons, or files that can be used directly without going through any additional steps.

✤ src folder: This is where your main source code resides. 'src' is short for source.

✤ assets folder: This folder stores static assets such as images, logos, and similar files. This folder is handy for organizing and accessing these non-changing elements in your project.

✤ App.css: This file contains styles specific to the App component (we will learn what 'components' are in React in the next tips post~!).

✤ App.jsx: This is the main component of your React application. It's where you define the structure and behavior of your app. The .jsx extension means the file uses a mixture of both HTML and JavaScript - open the file and see for yourself~!

✤ index.css: This file contains global styles that apply to the entire project. Any styles defined in this file will be applied universally across different parts of your project, providing a consistent look and feel.

✤ main.jsx: This is the entry point of your application! In this file, the React app is rendered, meaning it's the starting point where the React components are translated into the actual HTML elements displayed in the browser. Would recommend not to delete as a beginner!!

✤ .eslintrc.cjs: This file is the ESLint configuration. ESLint (one of the dependencies installed) is a tool that helps maintain coding standards and identifies common errors in your code. This configuration file contains rules and settings that define how ESLint should analyze and check your code.

✤ .gitignore: This file specifies which files and folders should be ignored by Git when version-controlling your project. It helps to avoid committing unnecessary files. The node_modules folder is typically ignored.

✤ index.html: This is the main HTML file that serves as the entry point for your React application. It includes the necessary scripts and links to load your app.

✤ package.json: A metadata file for your project. It includes essential information about the project, such as its name, version, description, and configuration details. Also, it holds a list of dependencies needed for the project to run - when someone else has the project on their local machine and wants to set it up, they can use the information in the file to install all the listed dependencies via npm install.

✤ package-lock.json: This file's purpose is to lock down and record the exact versions of each installed dependency/package in your project. This ensures consistency across different environments when other developers or systems install the dependencies.

✤ README.md: This file typically contains information about your project, including how to set it up, use it, and any other relevant details.

✤ vite.config.js: This file contains the configuration settings for Vite, the build tool used for this React project. It may include options for development and production builds, plugins, and other build-related configurations.

Mini React.js Tips #4 | Resources ✨

Continuing the #mini react tips series, one of the important things I wanted to learn QUICK was how to add new CSS files to my project correctly. I am an SCSS > CSS person, but the guide will focus on CSS for now! Next, I will make a guide for SCSS/SASS files~!

What you'll need:

know how to create a React project >> click

know the default React project's file structure >> click

know how to create a component >> click

know basic CSS

basic knowledge of using the Terminal

[ 1 ] Navigate to the src folder: The src folder is where you will find the 'assets' folder, .jsx files, and .css files.

[ 2 ] Create your .css file: In the src folder, create the .css file. You can create a subfolder to place the new .css or just leave it in the src folder. Example 'main.css'

[ 3 ] Add the styling: In the new file, add the styling code inside for elements in your React app. Here we are going to target the h1 tag in the Header component.

[ 4 ] Import the CSS file to the component file: Personally, if it's not a global CSS styling but specifically for a component, I will import the CSS straight into the component's .jsx file. If it's global, I would add it in the App.jsx file instead. At the top of the file, add:

import './[location of the CSS file]'

[ 5 ] Run the Development Server: Start your development server with the command in the Terminal (the 'Local' link) + make sure your component is in the App() in App.jsx:

npm run dev

[ 6 ] View the changes: See if you can view your styling!

Congratulations! You've successfully added CSS files to your React project! Try adding more styling to the same component or globally across all your other components!

If you run into errors, do make sure your referencing to the CSS file's location is correct. Adding './' in front is important before adding the location of the CSS file. I ran into a lot of errors because of this for some reason?? :

'./styles.css' = correct

'styles.css' = incorrect
