Think about characters that the show tends to portray as innocent and chill but still 100% know Conan is Not who he pretends to be. Jodie should by now at least strongly suspect Conan is Shinichi. We have seen she's not a bad detective (in figuring out Akai faked his death), she knows Vermouth has stayed young for 20+ years and she heard her talking to Haibara at the docks, so she could probably do some research and put two and two together. Like by now she should know. Maybe she's just not addressing it to protect him?

And then there's Takagi. He doesn't have half the information Jodie does, but come on. After the "who are you" scene in the elevator???? Being answered he'll tell him in the afterlife and ending up not getting a reply???? And then moving on like nothing happened???? Like you gotta admit. Something weird must've happened inside his brain. How do you even justify that. "Maybe he's the spirit protector of cops incarnate I'd better do as he says and act natural lest he casts a Curse upon me" or some shit similar. Surely not Shinichi Kudo shrunk by a criminal organisation that would be too weird.

Annual reminder that Aang wasn't a terrible dad, that one episode was badly written and had poor perspective. Aang was a busy, working dad who had a lot of stuff to do, and then suddenly his third kid was a full-on Airbender and he was literally the only one qualified to teach this baby, so then he finally had an excuse to put his family before his duties ("My family IS my duty now, suckers!!!"), and so Kya and Bumi were all "What the heck, Dad???" because they were now teens (iirc) and they missed out on all that stuff.

It was basically Aang going from "my family has 20% of my time" to "my family has 40% of my time". Still not enough, probably, but Aang could finally go and explore his own culture without feeling guilty about leaving the rest of the world to fend for itself.

I started watching Shameless recently, for obvious reasons. At first, it was just scrubbing through and watching bits and pieces, but then I accidentally committed, and wow it’s a lot.

I just started s2 and every episode makes me hyperventilate.

It’s almost unbearably sad, and funny in a dark awful way, and can’t-look-away levels of interesting — not like The Bear, obviously, it’s nowhere near that imo, but there’s something really compelling about it that is only maybe 60% JAW’s baby acting efforts. And I think I hate William H. Macy in a way that transcends the character.

Anyway, in conclusion, I’m not okay re this show, and if anyone wants to message me and discuss, I am very here for it!

People hating on a literal child because she doesn’t physically look like a character in a book who we only ever saw in concept art and fanart vs me who was kinda sad when I realized book Percy wasn’t black because the description of a young boy living in New York who’s close with his single mother parent who is constantly seen as stupid troublemaker by both peers and teachers and his moms awful boyfriend and who’s only friend is the only other Outcast (non white) classmate who’s only ally is the literature teacher who then he finds also has doubts about him felt very if not fully black then at least mixed coded.

But then I moved on and enjoyed the story for what it gave me, can some of these people say the same 🤔

Y’know I kinda wanna elaborate on the HC I mentioned, where I said that if Donald hadn’t found out what Douglas was doing and intervened, Douglas would’ve eventually cracked and fessed up

Mostly I wanna elaborate that he wouldn’t have fessed up because of ethical guilt (though I do think he may have something somewhere inside him that would give a damn about ethics. He did seem pretty excited to do good things after all) but more because he’s got the emotional strength of a wet tissue and would feel personal guilt after getting so attached

I’m gonna put most of it under a cut ‘cause it turned into a full on Douglas study I guess

Like... obviously I’m prefacing this with it being my own interpretation of the guy, but Douglas was a pretty emotional dude in the show. His entire redemption was rooted in his emotional attachment to his family. His morals never 100% improved, and the growth we did see was almost entirely motivated by “My family won’t like me if I’m a bad guy :(”

And while he’s not a particularly GOOD dad, he is a dad. Literally every kid Douglas gets more than 2 minutes of screen time with, he goes into some kind of Dad Mode

So, the way I see it, I don’t think Douglas would’ve lasted if he got to keep the Rats for longer than he did. It’s never actually said how old the kids were when Donald found out, but they couldn’t have been older than like... 3? Tops? Possibly even younger, technically. If Douglas actually got to watch those kids grow up in whatever messed up environment he had them in to keep them hidden (Which, I’ll be honest- based on comparing the brothers’ lab quality, was probably a worse environment than Donald’s lab) I don’t think he would’ve been able to commit. Not with the original trio, anyway

ALSO. I wanna bring up Donald, ‘cause he’s also a factor in of himself

Yeah, the brothers fight a lot, and did fight a lot. But I think it’s worth remembering that despite that, these two founded a company together. They invented things together. They work together seamlessly when they get in the zone. Douglas, despite all the animosity, was ecstatic at the prospect of getting to work alongside his brother again, and was genuinely sad when Donald didn’t feel the same, but chose not to fight Donald’s decision

Douglas cares what Donald thinks of him, and I bet he cared a lot more before Donald discovered what was happening and made his own judgement call. The two of them had to have been incredibly close, and that probably would’ve weighed on Douglas, too

But Donald found out on his own, and he didn’t waste time. He saw the children, he saw the conditions, the plans, the schematics. There was absolutely no way to rationalize what was happening here, Donald had to get these kids out and away. His little brother was using their assets to make deals with terrorists regarding the creation of bioweapons in the form of children

And Douglas was left ghosted by the most consistent presence in his life for the past 20+ years, locked out of the company he helped build from nothing, and separated from these kids who have also been a consistent presence in his life for entirely different reasons

And Douglas is notorious for deflecting and pushing back when someone else decides that he’s in the wrong. All that potential turmoil means the time between Donald finding out and Douglas “dying” was probably like. Intense. To put it mildly

All this to say: Douglas is still a DICK lmao and the point of this post is NOT to be like “Douglas deserved better” or even “Donald is to blame.” It’s more about how Douglas is a notably emotion-driven character and how it affects his dynamics and actions, both positive and negative

It’s also my favorite kind of angst- where technically, things could have turned out okay, or at least better than they did, if everyone involved hadn’t been such a mess

Another good thing about having a Steven Universe cast member join the Hazbin Hotel cast I guess, is that the overlap in casting officially proves that ~"Criticals~ calling Hazbin things like shitbin, trashbin, and Hazmat are officially as unhinged, if not terminally more so, then the ~"Criticals"~ calling Steven Universe "Shitvin". 💀

I guess this means that petitprincess1 can officially kiss my body rolls now and I want all the gray faces who can't reach me to know that I am stuffing cheese fries into my mouth as I said that. Bitch. 💀

Oh... and specific to this casting news this also means that aside from making this one post about it, I will also be blocking getting overly excited about Sarah in the tags and cross posting for her previous work on a now long finished kids show just like I'm doing with all the posts in the tags about Jeremy Jordon because you all need to calm the absolute fuck down. 💀

Also, in the spirit of killing everyone's joy and being as unlikeable as Mimzy herself is in this fandom, this is my official announcement that I personally will not be fully accepting of having the word of god say that Alastor is ace or aroace until his sexuality is explicitly mentioned, shown,or explored within the canon text. Why? Because controversial or not I've always felt as though going from having Alastor being in love with the only fat character in the narrative back then to just loving no one at all as having this strange undercurrent of fatphobia to it to begin with even if it might've been someones well meaning attempt at fixing a problem and I love Mimzy, and since she's gonna be voiced by Sarah now and people are probably gonna make the inevitable angsty association between the song "Drift Away" and Almimzy as a pairing like I just the fucking did, the whole undertone of "I'm Ace because I didn't like fucking this fat chick" is just gonna become an even more glaring issue for as time goes on, even if it isn't there, unless we get a canonical explanation as to why Alastor is ace that doesn't have anything to do with their relationship. And even then, we still don't know how Mimzy will be treated by the narrative, let alone by Alastor, and there's still no guarantee that Al's aceness WILL be explicitly explored or if it's just gonna be another "Princess Marco Turdina" Situation, even if it's word of god this time round or not, and I can still respectfully disagree with some aspects of the way this is handled and interpret word of god in my own way. And some of you are like, militantly overprotective of a fictional serial killer to the point where you're past being obnoxious and it's become concerning and you're probably gonna throw a tantrum for being dissatisfied with what you get anyway and end up dropping the show, so...

I'm not sorry that for Al and all his boys and his girls and his Mimzy, I just choose love ... Bye! 🤭🌹 X.O

i quite wish slash hope jgy (i’m talking about him because he’s my #1 boy but this also goes for jc and xy and probably every character that inspires such takes) didn’t have the fandom just... regurgitating the most random takes and/or treating them as gospel and Such Good, Insightful Meta because it agrees with their Vibe Read of jgy, when said Vibe Read is 99% rooted in fandom and maybe 1% in zanzan’s evil smiles, and Very Little, If At All, rooted in the things that happen in canon.
