I appreciate that everyone thought Tango would take its easy this season after Decked Out. Go full grumpy old man, murdering anyone who bothered him. Yet here he is… building a redstone mail delivery service with dynamic chunk loading while still in his starter base.
Meanwhile, TCG mastermind and map connoisseur VintageBeef is *this* close murdering Iskall for touching his farmhouse walls.
#astronomically excited about the mail service oh my GOD#tango tek#VintageBeef#the sound he made when appointed the minister of maps?#let the man rest#beef is literally the townspeople in untitled goose game just trying to live their lives#and Iskall is a horrible goose#hermitcraft#hermitblr

more college basketball player!ellie 😵💫😵💫
hola.... its mr put it on.... here to put you guys back onto college basketball player!ellie
✧༺༻∞
she's definitely not the tallest on the team. fastest, for sure. quiet on her feet that it usually freaks her teammates out. you see it all the time, its one of the things that makes you laugh the most when you're at the gym with them. deciding to be one of the coach's assistants wasn't exactly your first choice for your odd job of the year, but you needed the cash and it wasn't like you were going to ta for that one ethics professor again... dude gave you the heebie jeebies. but getting to watch a bunch of sweaty girls curse at each other and run back and forth across the court was nice. you got a comedy show, new jokes to steal, and you even got to see the one and only ellie williams in her element. number one choice for the wnba draft and that was a huge deal, apparently, if those tiktoks you kept getting were anything to go by. its not that you didn't give a shit about sports – the olympics is always fun, even the world cup managed to get your attention every now and then – but college sports? you can't say you ever really cared. but living in a college town for 2 years and counting is starting to change all that.
ellie being one of the stars on the team is really a treat – her teammates don't let it get to her head and they clown on her every chance they get. unfortunately, they have a bad habit of horsing around, which would be fine if it weren't for the fact that it impacts you as a bystander, who happens to sit by the edge of the court. and, of course, it would be fine if it weren't for the fact that the ball has to hit you in the head before anyone has a chance to yell "look out!" you're not dead, or dying, so you kind of swat away any hands that try to grab you. your hand is pressing into your head where the ball hit you, and the pounding is definitely going to be felt for the rest of day and night. how joyous, truly, to be honored with such– "hey," a voice calls, "could you– move your hand, c'mon–" "–i'm fine, dude, really–" you answer quickly, looking up to squint at ellie who tries to reach for you. "you're bleeding, so i'm not sure that counts as 'fine'." you curse under your breath, pulling your hand away from your head to check the damage. some blood is smudged over your fingers and you sigh, partly because of fatigue and partly because your mom's gonna overreact when you call her later and say something like– "you should really be more aware of your surroundings." you immediately glare at ellie who only sports a sarcastic grin, hair pulled back in a low and short pony tail. she offers you a towel for your head, and you wipe your hand before pressing it to the small wound. your eyebrow twitches in vague annoyance, but you do find it amusing. "for someone who is supposedly the number one draft pick, i'd assumed your hand-eye coordination wouldn't be so shit." ellie barks out a laugh, head hanging as she chuckles. its nice– its usually a little hard for the others to make her laugh so this is a win for you. you chuckle, too, ignoring the throbbing in your head. ellie nods her head towards the nurse's station by the back of the gym. "c'mon, lets make sure you'll live through this." after helping you up, she pauses to make sure you're steady, then starts walking slowly with you. "i'm ellie, but i guess you knew that. can't say i know your name."
you snort, pressing the towel harder into your head.
"yeah, well, lets see what comes first: you figuring out my name or your hand-eye coordination."

#garry's mod#gmod#source engine#half life 2#deathmatch#remaster#hearted#i covered this map 2 years ago (to the day) in 2022! but it's so good that i wanted to give it another pass#the cozy winter atmosphere is still there and i still very much love this map#the gigantic piles of powder surrounding buses parked in the middle of the street. flanked by cars covered up to the wing mirrors in snow#there is a part of me that finds joy in the idea of being cataclysmically “snowed in” despite the logistical headaches that come with it#it's the part of me that also found joy in pandemic lockdowns that i had to downplay. in being *expected* to stay at home no matter what#i think i selfishly want more of that. which is why i still feel more excitement than annoyance in the preparation for a winter storm#it does not help that i worked customer service through the beginnings of the pandemic & never really had the experience people lamented#anyway! i'm a winter dude and i love this map a lot

I'm a contrarian little bitch with a terminal hunger for nuance so while I strongly dislike the convention of "top" and "bottom" being treated as innate, mandatory and mutually exclusive character roles in BL fiction and fandom culture (while not completely absent, I have noticed it's less of a problem in the yuri sphere) I also strife against the most common counterarguments being "real gay couples switch!" or the even worse version "[x character] loves [y character] so much, you really think they wouldn't switch for them?" because people can and do in fact have strict preferences or hard limits in real life and, I cannot stress this enough: someone's willingness to perform certain sex acts is not a measure of love.
Idk man maybe we have misidentified the problem as the superficial lack of switching rather than the actual issue of treating a sexual preference like a signifier for what kind of binary exclusive category person you are. It's not that real people never have preferences but that those preferences generally a) don't cleanly fit into a binary and b) don't say anything about who they are outside of that.
#complaining and whining about fandom#I know that this is fiction and therefore things that have no meaning in real life take them on within a story#(for example: It's narratively satisfying for a character who has always had to be in control of everything learning to let go if it in bed#(or one who is repressed and afraid of their desires getting to explore sadism with an enthusiastic partner)#but the fluidity of fiction means you can make always a wide variety of sex acts thematically cohesive#for example: a character is always taking care of other people and finally learns how to let someone take care of them#you could represent his by letting them be a pillow princess and get railed. OR they could be a dom with a service sub#turns out that the human experience does not cleanly map onto strict binaries! who could've thought!

I think what really kicked in my whole rants about internet privacy was that time I went to Google and it showed my home city address right there on the bottom, even after I told it not to use my location. I remember a time when that was an unthinkable breach of privacy. Now they were almost flaunting it. It's like "yes, we know where you are, what are you gonna do about it?"
In fact, you log into Google Maps and the first thing it offers you, before anything that could be used as a service like say local events, is a prompt to enter your home and work address. It's insane.
It was always insane, actually, and I know ticking some boxes won't exactly stop all the data collection. But it was almost insulting to me. It really opened my eyes to say "oh, this has gone too far". I've always used Firefox and other free software, but now that everything is turning to shit, I'm accelerating my plans to move away from Google, Microsoft, Meta, and basically everything else.
#cosas mias#even if say Google Maps or any such service accesses your location to show where you are#it should be done while using the program and when you close it all data should be deleted#of course this doesn't happen and they still collect it

The world's major cities
So, Kabru copes with stress by reciting important world cities. That's very cute. Let's move on from that character beat, though, and get weird about Lore.
Cities!!
Kahka Brud and Izganda we know - Kahka Brud is the city nearest to the Island, the dwarvern port with a large population of Half-foots. It's also partially built into the ruins of a dungeon, the Brud Dungeon Cluster. That's really neat!
Senshi is from Izganda; it had mines and a large dwarvern community.
Sadena is where Daya is from - it had a dungeon. Her family were dungeon-keepers.
Dozahk is where one of Senshi's previous comrades was from; he's a "city dwarf", the son of metropolitan merchants, and so I assume it's a pretty big city.
They're all on the Eastern Continent.
Kabru doesn't list Bonnario, which is also written on the World Map, on the Eastern Continent, so I guess maybe it's not that important of a city? I don't know if it comes up anywhere in the story or extras, but I'd expect it to if it's on the map. I didn't notice anyone's bio saying they are from there, but I could have missed it.
Merini is the city on the Island, arguably also on the Eastern Continent. And, eventually the name of the country too. ...I know continents are established by agreement and not landmass, but despite what that line from the manga's ending says, I seriously doubt it will get considered a separate continent. It's big but it just doesn't seem that big... it's only my subjective & half assed calculations (in this post) that puts it about the size of Aotearoa or the UK, but I genuinely can't imagine it being so much bigger that it warrants being considered a continent as just one country that's already attached to the Eastern Continent.
Anyway based on grouping all the Eastern continent cities in here:
....I'm going to go ahead and assume this bubble is just cities from the Eastern Continent.
Then, the cities in these bubbles could be from two other continents:
Though I don't know which. He doesn't include Wa, so I'll assume not the Eastern Archipelago. If he's going by proximity, the nearest places to the Eastern Continent are the Northern Continent (where Laios, Falin, and Marcille are from) and the Southern Continent. We don't get any city names for those AFAIK, though.
If anyone has any speculations, I'd be quite curious; I can't really tell what the vibe is of these names, they mostly just sound "fantasy-like" to me. Since this panel is a throwaway joke, the ones that don't come up elsewhere were probably just transliterated literally however, so if they're supposed to sound reminscent of something it would be easy to miss.
Utaya isn't here (not surprising, if I was Kabru and trying to keep myself calm) so it's possible that he isn't listing cities on the Western Continent.
He could also have just started listing with the continent he's on, and the separate bubbles don't mean anything, but A) less fun as speculation-fodder that way; and B) he definitely switched continents at some point or it wouldn't be labelled as "the world's major cities" but rather "the Eastern Continent's major cities" or just "names of cities".
#og post#dunmeshi#dungeon meshi manga spoilers#dungeon meshi meta#world map notes#kabru of utaya#autism intensifying. i'm working on a post documenting everything we know about the central elven continents rn.#and then hopefully the other continents too ^_^#as well as posts on character and theme too. i know that stuff's more uh.... digestible. lol#but my world posts are ultimately all in service of the Ultimate Political Longfic Epic which may never leave my brain and become real lmao#but is fun to think about!

ok so i am 7 episodes in to severance. and obviously there’s a lot i don’t know and a lot i accidentally spoiled myself for. but yeah i gotta say overall the biggest mystery for me is still the watsonian mystery of how the FUCK do they maintain that building
#severance#the set is beautifully designed to hammer in the isolation and sterilization of lumon especially the severed floor#BUT. how r those fluorescent lights not flickering. what happens when a toilet gets clogged. WHERE ARE THE CLEANERS!!!#i know they have in house maintenance but that doesn’t account for the sheer Size of things#ESPECIALLY considering most of lumon Isn’t the severed floors and in-house maintenance would probably deal with that as well#and the severed floor is intentionally designed to be isolating with all of the departments far from one another with No Maps#so like. whos the lucky technician who gets to change those filters every 6 weeks.#shakes lumon. you can’t lie to me i know how often commercial hvac units need to be serviced. where the fuck are you getting these guys

Rutas Andesmar Autotransportes y Espress, Argentina, 2008.
Having ridden Andesmar from the extreme N and NE of Argentina to Southern Patagonia, I became well-acquainted with this bus service. By and large it was excellent with comfortable seats, good drivers, meals on board, and frequent schedules even to rather remote places.

for the ones who sing in the dead of night - chapter 2
a hadestown au. in which the ghosts of the city live underground is taken very, very literally
chapter 1 read on ao3
The sun makes its slow way across the sky, and Mercy wonders whether she regrets leaving. Everything she’s ever owned is crammed into the set of drawers by her mattress, and she's not stupid enough to think she can go back for it. Sully might be an idiot, but he’d make you hurt for a blow to his pride, if you gave him the chance.
She’s dreamed of getting out, of course - who wouldn’t? But every time she’s been fed up enough to try, it’s come down to this: New York is a big, big city. And she doesn’t know it, not really, not beyond the blocks she’s grown up on. So she’s hung around, told herself that in hard times, any crew is better than none. Waited for the bravery to show up. She looks over to Swan, slumped against the tree, chest rising and falling gently. Thinks that she hadn’t expected it to show up in the form of a person.
Mercy knows it’s rude to stare, but you can’t exactly blame her, given the opportunity. Swan’s clothes have definitely seen better days, her t-shirt fraying and half of New York’s mud worked into the ends of her jeans. Her hair haloes her face in the midday sunlight, and she looks almost… peaceful? At the very least, she’s lost the crease at the centre of her forehead. She stirs, murmurs something in her sleep - that was the first thing Mercy had noticed, when she found her on the stairs. Before they’d introduced themselves, before Sully, before they’d run. Hell, she thinks. I did it. I left. She reaches for regret, comes up empty.
When the sun begins to dip, they set off for Van Cortlandt. For all she’s heard about the meeting, Mercy isn’t sure what she expects - everyone in this city likes to talk big, and not many follow through. But the closer they come to the park, the more the streets fill. Crews eye each other warily, bunching tightly together in groups of familiar colours. Mercy pulled the green bandana from her hair hours ago - she is under no illusions of how much respect the other crews have for the Orphans.
They pass Norwood Station, and she can’t resist leaning over the railing, peering into the chasm at the end of the stairs. Wonders if the folk down there knew that big things were happening up top - did they know what the living were up to? Did they care? You could hear them singing, sometimes, when the nights were still. Feel the ground shake as they passed beneath. It takes her a moment to notice Swan has taken several steps back. Mercy leans back into the land of the living, tilts her head. “You don’t like ‘em?”
Swan shrugs. Her expression is neutral enough that Mercy might have been convinced, were she not also keeping a careful distance from the subway entrance. Mercy adds this to the list of facts she’s assembling about Swan. Stubborn, talks in her sleep, easily flustered. Doesn’t want to talk about family - which, join the club. ‘Scared of ghosts’ feels endearingly out of place among them.
“Can’t be much worse than up here, can it? At least they’re not hungry.” But she keeps walking. “And surely we know some people down there. It’s not like they’re all strangers.”
Swan winces in a way that makes Mercy think that might be part of the problem. She drops the subject.
They keep towards the back of the crowd, knowing they look out of place. Crew after crew stride across the grass, colours flowing like a river towards Cyrus’s promise. They’re not going to be able to see her, she realises - not hanging back like this. She tugs Swan towards the half-constructed fence at the field’s perimeter, surrounded by scaffolding. If they can’t get close, at least they can get higher up.
Swan scales the scaffolding, reaches down a hand to help Mercy up. And as the entirety of the crowd comes into view, she catches her breath - it's an ocean of bodies, pressed tight together, jostling to be closest to the centre. The Riffs form a wall, three men deep, between the crowd and the makeshift pallet stage at the park's centre. As the sun dips below the horizon, a man in a long black coat steps onto it - Masai, she thinks. As with Cyrus, his name has always seemed more of a local legend than an actual person. It’s strange to see them in the flesh. He stands there, arms crossed, staring the crowd into silence. And it shouldn't work, but an anticipatory hush falls over the sea of people. He nods once, sharply, and then he is stepping to the side. And Cyrus is taking the stage.
She is smaller than Mercy was expecting, the bright red of her jacket setting her apart from the crowd of black-clad Riffs. She spreads her arms wide, turning to welcome the whole crowd, the whole city, into the gesture. Her lips move, but they're too far away for the words to reach them clearly. A Riff a little further into the crowd repeats the words, and then another yet further in does the same. Mercy watches her opening message move through the press of bodies like a game of telephone. The Riff nearest them smirks as he hears the words, passes them on - "Can you count, suckers?"
The park lights come on, illuminating Cyrus from behind. Masai has been staring out into the crowd, as though daring them to try something. But here he glances up at her, just for a moment, and even from this distance Mercy sees the smile. Cyrus’s words might be filtering through a dozen intermediaries in every direction, but no one is looking at them. Even up front, where some of the larger crews are pressed shoulder to shoulder against each other, no one jostles. Every face is turned to the front. It’s all men, that close to the centre, and yet Cyrus holds court like she was made for it.
It’s no mystery to her, why Sully was adamant about staying home. He hates to feel small, and who wouldn’t, next to Cyrus? More importantly, the rest of the crew might figure out what a leader looks like, and from that deduce that he wasn’t much of one. But she thinks he’s going to have to deal with the fallout, anyway. Because Cyrus is conjuring her vision for a very different city, and even Swan - who Mercy suspects is not the optimistic type - is leaning forward, her eyes not leaving Cyrus’s face.
In the swell of the crowd, New York feels as big as ever - but for once, that might just be a good thing. If Cyrus has brought them all here, colours blurring together, what couldn’t she do? Change feels as real as the summer breeze that’s catching at her hair. She’s free to go where she wants. She has someone to go there with. On a day as strange as this one, what was one more miracle?
Her eyes are still on Swan, and so she hears, rather than sees, the shot.
#warriors musical#warriors concept album#swercy#looked up the New York City tree map to see what kind of trees#they have in Bronx park and van cortlandt park#but unfortunately I simply do not think mercy cares about trees or knows how to ID them. this is the problem with writing characters who are#a different brand of autistic to you the author. that said the New York City tree map is SO cool and I highly recommend looking at it#cannot remember who came up with the swan talks in her sleep headcanon but I thank you for your service#one more chapter and then we get to the underworld <3 which I am very excited about#fic#mine

Decided to try Course of Temptation on a whim, since I'd seen several people in the community compare it to DoL. I'm about a week in and so far my impression is that it's like if DoL was a lot less hostile, MUCH more of a slow burn (to the point of boredom, unfortunately), but with extremely polished mechanics and UI (🥴🥵🫨👁️👁️)
#I gotta assume the game was inspired by dol bc so much of it works exactly the same way but better#character customization is SO DETAILED and there's FAST TRAVEL and REMINDERS + MAP PROMPTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY HELPFUL#plus the burger joint is so far Much more effective as 'food service job turned sexual' scenario than the dol cafe imo#unfortunately CoT seems to also be missing a lot of things DoL has...like an interest hook#DoL makes the first encounter a sex scene while CoT...implies I'll be able to unlock one eventually#but i can have piercings so WHATEVERRR#plus the way your learn about & keep track of NPCs is highkey fascinating... if a but challenging on the memory#Obviously I'm very new & there's a lot i haven't seen yet so I'm gonna keep exploring...but currently i like dol more#tho the team behind CoT feel REALLY respectful and their game mechanics make me kinda crazy (#<-positive)#nz.txt
