Welcome to the Resting Glitch Face pod!

This is the official tumblr account for the podcast Resting Glitch Face. We are a mostly woman Shadowrun AP set in the mean streets of St Louis in 2081. We are a character driven podcast with action, drama, and especially romance.

Our cast of characters includes:

Bianca aka Eris- the Face. She's a rich girl with a reckless streak trying to prove that she doesn't need her family's money or approval

Jo aka Collateral- the Muscle. She's a championship boxer grappling with mysterious latent magical abilities that killed her career, but are opening more and more doors

Val aka Binary- the Hacker. She's a technomancer who takes being the mom friend very seriously, but as the effects of a childhood spent in a medical testing center begin to surface, she struggles to hold on

Juilliard aka Jet- the Thief. She's an ex Prima Ballerina whose career was cut short and now uses her talents on the wrong side of the law, but her past is literally catching up with her

Also Featuring:

Cami aka Arsenal- the Tactician. She's an expert marksman with ties to the army, but she's beginning to feel the tension between the conflicting goals of her friends and the man she loves

Shadowrun Anarchy Update

I've been running a SRA game for the better part of a year now. Had some musical chairs so a very mixed level group. Even just recently added someone, and yeah they all start Street Level. They've been 3 sessions on a mission that I don't think they get. Usually they're pretty creative with their plot points & cues to kinda get most runs done in 2 sessions. Aspect of the game is metacritter hunters. Mostly going across North & South America hunting cryptid legends, ramped up for the 6th age. It's been a lot of fun. But these Yeti's all gathering at Glacier National Park is kinda undoing them in a way I think I gotta end before they decide to just pink mohawk their way into certain death. I think I'll have the shamans behind the plot (they've not really picked up on any hints that that's what is happening, which is all the mission calls for)... So one trapped yeti, 2 dead, about 7 ran off waiting to get them when they're split up. Whew, wilderness running isn't their forte lemme tell ya. I got off track; so the shamans will hire a face to just pay them off to go try something else. lol Seems cheap, but I wanna save the group and maybe keep them from imploding. Being a game master sometimes means knowin' when to fold'em chummers.

I finally managed to get my group to try Shadowrun. They've been daunted by how hard the rules are, the dm seems intimidated. Do you know of any tips to help everything go smoothly?

Congrats and also condolences because Shadowrun 5e is in fact a daunting system - but mastering it can also be great fun! There is just a really steep learning curve, so here are my suggestions to make it easier on yourselves (pick and choose what suits you):

(even more so than usual) everyone is the expert for their character. SR 5e is not one rulebook but like 5 in a trench coat. the game master should have ideally read all of the rules once, but it's up to the players to support them during play by knowing what their characters can do and looking stuff up on the fly if needed when it's in the realm of their character's expertise (e.g. helping the GM out with astral initiative if you are playing a mage).

Use chummer for character creation and e.g. platforms like roll20.net to streamline playing. Roll20.net has the option of uploading character sheets into it and makes tracking of initiative, wound modifiers etc. a lot easier. I'd also recommend adding the different tables in the book as handouts to the roll20 table, that way you don't have to flip through the book as often.

Start out with street scum-level characters, meaning fairly weak characters (look it up in character creation). Having fewer skills means having fewer rules to keep track of for the players and the GM. That way you can grow with your characters and their challenges. Bonus points if the rigger/decker needs to earn their rigger console/deck first or if the mages and adept start out now being awakened yet and only unlocking the skills over time.

Use only the quickstart rules starting out, which are free to download on drivethrurpg: link here. They are simplified rules once given out during free rpg day. If you get a taste for the game afterwards you can always go in deeper.

Use the shadowrun: anarchy rulebook, which I can unfortunately say very little about, since I never played it - but it did get recommended to me by friends. It apparently puts more emphasis on the storytelling and less on the crunchier aspects of the game?

What Do I Know About Reviews? Shadowrun Anarchy 2050

Normally I don't reach this far back for reviews, but this poor thing kept getting put on the backburner. From way back in 2021, we look at Shadowrun Anarchy 2020 from Catalyst Games. #TTRPGs #Shadowrun
