Hi ambulon! Legit medical question: I notice that some Cybertronians have pronounced canines while others don’t. Is there a reason for that?

There is, actually, yeah. Though it's not determined, one of the theories states the possession of pronounced canines or otherwise sharpened teeth can be attributed to the ancestry, Onyx Prime in particular. A life of a spark is cyclic - so, in his death, Onyx Prime's spark became a part of many new ones. It relates not only to the unusual teeth shape, but any feature that can be considered abnormally un-vehicular.

I like this theory. Many opinions tend to fall in some kinda category of shapism, and don't make much sense. To me.

I am writing The Arts of Being as an act of justice

now, heads up: i did enjoy Flat dreams a lot! In fact, go read it! Love it and love the characters.

However I did feel pretty sad about how the Flatland aspects were almost completely morphed or put aside. The moment i read that Bill was sitting, legs dangling, on a bed, I caught the hint. It was very sad to me.

Beyond shapism it was only flat in the colorless aspect. There was a sky and stuff.

I read it as my first Flatland fan media after the book and I was hoping for a 2d world. Which i suppose wasn't the author' purpose, I know. It was Bill's story. But just because your parents told you that they were going to the shop to buy stuff for your sibling and not for you, doesnt mean you won't be sad about it.

So yeah I wrote The Arts of Being because I was salty about misrepresenting a book in an otherwise pretty cool fanfic. I just really wanted to see a proper, truly 2D world, with all its boring limitations.

These are not only stunning but absolutely necessary! A beautiful visual, that dispels the boxing of fat bodies into 'winter stock' or fetish. Fat people doing normal everyday thinhs should not be an extraordinary thing to be celebrated, it should be normal every day life. That said, I don't feel represented by these wonderful artworks and it is not the artist's fault. Yes I am still harping on about colorism and shapism. Life is different for black people, but even more so for dark skinned individuals. The same can be said about fat girls vs fat boys, apple shaped vs pear shaped women. It is what it is and the privileged are happy to maintain the status quo. if functionist universe quark shows up, i REALLY want him to be kind of a douchebag. absolutely comfortable with shapism and functionist rhetoric because it kept him in a cushy spot where he didn’t have to think about the outside world or the consequences of his actions for millions of years. I think he was certainly a nice person but I don’t feel like he was ever really very moral to begin with, more concerned about his own personal safety than justice or equal rights for cybertronians as a whole.

so I’d like to see him like that. a nice person who makes sure to put a good word in for the janitor who helped him out, but who also performs horrific examinations on a prisoner for a fascist state. he’s not good, he’s not kind, he’s just nice.

XB2001 Assignment 3 Production

For my Game Development Assignment 3 project, I decided to go for the mountain theme and create a game called Shapism, a game about different shapes being prejudice to one another until one of them takes over. The players then have to liberate the other shapes from the hands of the Cubes (overthrowers).

Level update: Day one

This is a screenshot from the end of the first day. I modeled the platform in Maya and added it into the game. This proved important for the overall aesthetic for the game.

Eventually I added a lot of platforms to add more of a community for the platforms. This creates a more living and breathing world for the players to explore and feel involved in. 

Over the production

Over the production time I learned a lot of new skills and managed to implement a lot of different mechanics. All of the assets are also of my creation, with the only thing in the game now being created by me being the audio sounds, which came from a mix of SoundBible, FreeSound and Incompetech. 

I wanted the game to have clear goals and an impactful narrative which the players would have to explore to find. In order to do this, I set notes to be placed around the islands for the player to find whilst adventuring through the unique island layouts and locations. 

With the notes in place, I set up a code to set a widget to appear upon the player overlapping it. I set these notes in places the player would most likely explore voluntarily, e.g. huts and by campfires. 

In order for the objectives to be clear, I decided to set it so the current objective was always displayed in the top right corner of the screen. When the player completed the objective, it would turn green to provide feedback to the player. 

I made a number of design decisions whilst creating this game. The first design decision which I made was that players could visit every island. In the pre production, the players were only supposed to enter 2. I decided that this was not going to be enough to provide the 5 minute game play expectation, so changed it so that players had to visit them all. This worked out well in the end as it provided a mix of upbeat and relaxing game play. This allows the game to start dramatic, calm down slightly then build up to the climax for a more efficient ending. 

I decided I wanted the player to choose how the game ends based on what they had read over the course of the game. A lot of games, such as Far Cry 4, create dynamic main antagonists which players want to side with and do not give them the option. As the player is half cube and half cone, both choices would impact them, due to this I wanted it to be to the players discretion.

When I was first starting the project, I knew I wanted it to be set in the mountains, however, did not want it to be generic, as I wanted the characters to be shapes for the act of shapist discrimination to occur. As the characters are fairly unique, I also wanted the environments to be unique. I also wanted to show off my level design skills, making each platform, which at the base are very similar, appear different and new to the player when they reach them, as can be seen in the difference of the 2 islands below.
