Sunshine
This is something that I’ve had sitting, completely finished, in my Drive so I wanted to share it. I hope you like it and let me know if you want more :) The black and white world was one that you had come to know since you were able to understand things. The tattoo on your collarbone was something that had appeared recently, however. You cringed at the irony when you had first noticed it. The fact that you lived in a black and white world and the tattoos were in color was laughable. It was a sun, that much you knew. Even though you only saw it as black and white you could tell that it was vibrant, radiant, it made you happy just looking at it. You had been told that the ink was yellow, but that meant nothing to you, you couldn’t see colors. But you did know that the ink was vibrant, even in dull black and white.
The soulmate system was something that you had a love/ hate relationship with. It was romantic to think that there was one person out there for you that accepted you, faults and all. But you also wanted to rebel against it. Who says that you have to fall in love with this person? Why couldn’t you chose?
The black and white world would shift to color when you locked eyes with your soulmate. The tattoo was something that represented how you felt about them. Which confused you. How did the universe know what you would feel about a person you hadn’t even met?
You had woken up one morning to see the tattoo poking out from your tank top. You yanked the collar of the shirt down to study it more. The tattoo signified that you were going to meet your soulmate soon. When you had noticed the tattoo a giddy feeling crawled its way up into your stomach and you had let out a bubbly giggle at the thought of meeting him.
You wondered what tattoo your soulmate had that represented you. “Y/N! You’re going to be late if you don’t hurry it up!” Your roommate called to you. You looked at the clock and noticed she was right. You cursed and tossed your hair up in a tight ponytail. Picking up the pair of pants that you had picked out you struggled into them, hopping around to get them up your thighs. You let out a huff when they were finally buttoned. You grabbed your bag and ran out of your room, kissing your roommate on the cheek before grabbing your keys and running out of your shared apartment. Jamming the key into the ignition and twisting you threw your car into reverse and backed out of the spot, your radio blasting. You winced and turned it down, you were listening to it just a bit too loud the last time you drove and had forgotten to turn it down. In your defense 5 Seconds of Summer’s new album had just been released and you were determined to learn all the lyrics to every song before your concert in a weeks.
“Vapor” had just come on, half way through the song and you hummed along, letting the world around you fade away. The song was beautiful, and you were calmed listening to the instruments and the boys’ voices flow together. You came to a stop at a red light (you only knew it was red because it was at the top) and looked to your left. A black van with tinted windows was beside you and you narrowed your eyes at it, wondering what or who could be inside. Part of you wanted it to a huge celebrity but another part of you was screaming “stranger danger” and you wanted to look for every kid on the street and tell them to stay away.
As you were looking at the vehicle it pulled away and you turned to the stoplight to see the light had shifted to the bottom light, signaling that it was time to go. You pushed down on the accelerator and made your way through the intersection. The van pulled in front of you and you slowed down. It took a left and you did too. The van pulled into the parking lot where you worked. You eyed it cautiously. It parked and the engine was shut off but nobody got out of it. You pulled into your normal spot and shut the car off, pulling your keys out and opening the door. You shut it behind you and made the short walk to the door of the shop where you worked. You greeted your co-worker, Jennifer, cheerily before going to stand behind the counter, organizing a few things as you went. The store was slow today, according to your Jennifer, so the two of you made small talk. “How’re the kids?” You asked her.
“Good, Charles just said his first word yesterday, it was “mama”. I want to freeze him in this age so he never grows up.” She said, smiling, “Oh! I have a video of his saying it, do you want to see?” You nodded enthusiastically and she pulled out her phone from her back pocket. You really liked Jennifer, she was always happy and the two of you had a great time working together. The day seemed to fly by with her.
You made your way out from behind the counter and onto the floor. You straightened things and rearranged the decorations, searching desperately for something to do. The bell above the door chimed and you looked up, a smile on your face, ready to greet the customer. “Hi! How are you-” You cut yourself off and Jennifer looked up from what she was doing to see why you had stopped talking.
“Hey! You’re the girl in the car! You were next to us! You work here?” One of the boys who had walked in asked. You nodded slowly, but didn’t say anything. The black van that was next to you and that had pulled into the parking lot was theirs. There, in front of you was Luke and Calum from your favorite band. Luke continued to speak, “Awesome! Well we’re just browsing, don’t mind us.” You nodded again and backed away from them, bumping into something on your retreat. ‘Way to keep it cool’ you thought to yourself. You made your way over to Jennifer who looked at you questioningly.
“That’s Luke and Calum, they’re part of the band that I’m seeing in a few weeks.” You explained and Jennifer nodded in understanding. She went back to her task while you tried to calm your racing heart.
“Hey Ash would like this!” You heard Calum’s voice call from behind a shelf and you smiled lightly. The bell chimed again and you greeted the new customer, grateful to have a distraction. You guided the customer to the item they were looking for, answering all their questions with grace and smiling widely the whole time. When the customer was fully satisfied he handed you the item and followed you back to the register, pulling out his wallet to pay. You recited how much he owed to him and he handed you cash.
“Have a great day!” You chirped and he thanked you while pushing the door open.
“Can I buy this?” Calum said, pushing a few items onto the counter and you blushed, looking down, focusing on the items he was handing you. You didn’t understand why you were acting like this, you were usually confident and talkative, working in customer service, you had to create and hold conversation all day. You figured it was because it was Luke and Calum standing in front of you that you couldn’t find your voice. You were almost done ringing everything up when Jennifer decided it would be a great idea to step in.
“Y/N is a huge fan of yours! She’s going to see you guys in concert soon.” You blushed fiercely, glaring over at your co-worker. She smiled even wider at you.
“Really? That’s awesome! Have you been to a concert of ours before?” Luke asked, coming up beside Calum.
“No,” you said, avoiding eye contact, “this will be the first time. I finally saved enough money to get good tickets.” You explained.
Calum nodded enthusiastically, “Well we’ll try our hardest to make sure the concert is the best ever.” You laughed and smiled at him. Luke’s phone rang and he picked it up, Calum looking over at him while he was talking.
“Okay, we’ll be there in a few. Don’t freak. We were just exploring.”  Luke rolled his eyes at Calum playfully and ended the call. “That was Mikey. Him and Ashton are done recording and want to go get food.” Calum nodded before handing his card over to you and taking the various items he purchased in his hands.
“Well, thank you for everything! Hope to see you soon!” Calum said, waving over his shoulder as Luke followed him out the door. “Wait!” Calum said, stopping so abruptly that Luke bumped into him, “Picture!” He said, walking back over to the counter, putting the items down again. Jennifer grabbed your phone from where it was resting on the counter and pushed you out from behind the counter towards the two boys. You walked over cautiously, still not looking at them directly.
“Okay! One, two, three!” Jennifer called after the two boys had wrapped their arms around your shoulders. You smiled widely as the shutter went of a few times. “Okay, all done.” She handed you your phone and smiled at the boys. The said their goodbyes and were out the door. You saw the van pulling out of the parking lot soon after. “Luke has beautiful eyes.” Jennifer commented and you nodded.
“I’ve heard that they’re amazing. And blue. What does blue look like?” You asked.
“Blue is like…” she trailed off, “blue is the color of the sky. And it’s calming, but it’s also shocking. Blue is the color of cold, when you can see you breath in the morning and when your nose gets all runny from staying outside too long. But it can be sad too. It’s the color you feel when somebody you love passes away. But it’s vibrant. So vibrant. It’s that gulp of air that you get when you come up from being underwater too long. It’s also the water, calm and serene.” Jennifer finished.
“I think my favorite color may be blue.” You laughed and Jennifer smiled at you.
“Bryan’s favorite color is blue.” She said, referring to her soulmate and husband. “We painted our room blue because he loves it so much.”
You nodded and began restocking the shelves. You turned around suddenly, “What about Calum’s?” You questioned.
Jennifer took a breath before beginning, “Calum’s eyes are a color called brown. They’re warm. Brown is warm. It’s the feeling of a warm embrace after a long day, it’s the feeling when your shoulders relax and you breath in the familiar scent of your home. It’s the feeling the warmth in your blankets when you first wake up and the smell of coffee in the morning. The feeling of the warm coffee touching your lips and warming you from the inside out.” Jennifer said, writing something down on a pad of paper. You turned back around and continued the task at hand.

one for the road
ofc: celeste morgan
inspo: “Let’s make snow angels!” “Are you nine?”
word count: +1.8k
synopsis: celeste is the tour manager for 5sos, (and regrettably stuck on the boys’ bus, thus being the unofficial parent over them. despite being the same age as ashton) and they are running late to the concert venue due to snow and traffic, making her more and more grumpy (the other manager of the tour is on her ass for every nit picky thing and blames her for it as well) and ash continues to be a pain in her ass (lbr all of them are, but underneath all that hard-ass-tour-manager-skin, she loves these boys to the ends of the earth maybe ashton a little more than necessary)
a/n: i’m kinda terrified posting this, cause 1. it’s been ages since i’ve posted any fanfic and 2. this is a completely different fandom that i’m writing for… but here goes. hope you enjoy.
Tumblr media
“Macie, we’re on our way, with about two hours left.”
“Hope so, cause soundcheck starts in three hours.” Celeste sighed, looking out the window ahead of her. The snowflakes were flying down from the skies, growing thicker and thicker in the past hour, with the windshield wipers going almost at top speed.
“We’re trying with the best we’ve got Macie,” she grumbled into her phone.
“Well try a little harder. Jacob is on my ass if they don’t get here on time.” Celeste frowned. Jacob, the tour coordinator, was on both Celeste and Macie’s asses about everything, from how the boys would not arrive on time (Celeste’s “fault”) or how the venue wouldn’t be available to the crew until the day before or the day of the show (Macie’s “fault”). Much to say that Celeste and Macie shared hatred (even initially bonded over it) for Jacob throughout the entire tour.
“We’ll get there when we get there, and work from there. Plus, the boys don’t technically need to be there for the soundcheck.”
“Babes, you forgot that we sell tickets for soundcheck privileges.” Oh. Right.
“Dammit,” Celeste groaned, “traffic does not look good with the snow accumulating on the highway.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll deal with Jackass when the time comes. Safe travels.”
“Thanks, Macie. See you soon.” Celeste clicked the phone call off, placing her phone next to the clipboard with the seemingly unending lists of things to do. She glanced out the window, bracing herself at the door frame before walking closer to the front of the bus.
“Hey Danny, how we doing?”
“Well Ms. Morgan, it looks like we may be behind schedule with the way the snow keeps coming down.” He didn’t even bat an eye when Celeste sat next to him, as he continued driving, bobbing his head slightly to the music playing in the front. She sighed deeply, rubbing her temples.
“Well, I guess we’ll get there when we get there?” She stood up, wanting to update the boys in the back.
“Yes ma’am, when we’ll get there.”
“Thanks, Danny.” He nodded, while Celeste walked away.
She heard a couple shouts followed by laughter, the closer she got to the end of the tour bus. Once she opened the door, all four boys froze where they were: Michael sat on the couch with his head nearly squashed by Luke’s arm; Calum flopped on top of Luke, their faces inches apart; Ashton was balanced standing on the arm of the couch, leaning forward with his arms spread out wide, about to belly flop onto the other three band members. Celeste rolled her eyes, then walked up to Ash, pulling him back down to the floor, shoving Luke off of Michael and sitting in between them, and then pushed Calum off of Luke to the point of him careening to the floor.
“Ow,” Calum yelped.
“You are all acting like children,” she said, whilst unlocking her phone to pull up the ever-updating schedule.
“So if we’re the children, then you’re our mom!” Luke grinned, perching his chin on her shoulder.
“And if you’re our mom, Ash’s our dad!” Calum said, laying on hers and Luke’s laps. She caught the eye of Ashton, who was sitting on top of the makeshift coffee table in front of them.
“What do you say, wifey?” he said with a smirk plastered on his face.
“I say that there’s a change in schedule, and we’re gonna get to the venue late with the rate that the snow is falling.”
“Oooh, it’s snowing?” Then the curtains in the back, flew open, followed by the oohs and ahhs of the white fluff falling down, slowly piling up on the road.
“So,” she continued, pulling two boys back into their seats, “with the snow and pending traffic, we’ll be late, if not completely miss soundcheck.”
“What do you mean miss soundcheck? We can’t do that-”
“If we’re lucky, we’ll arrive at the venue two hours before the show starts, maybe even an hour,” Celeste said, cutting off Luke, “which barely give you guys enough time to change and warm up before the openers start.” The four boys looked at her, their expressions turning solemn.
“Are we doing anything in exchange for the fans that bought soundcheck tickets?” Calum said, shifting his head in her lap. Celeste nodded, checking her phone to see if Macie got back to her with any updates.
“That is what we and management are planning if traffic does get so bad. But, I’m hoping that will just be the worst case scenario.”
“Well then, if we’re gonna be stuck on this bus for at least three more hours, are we up for a Mario Kart tournament?” Michael said, handing two controls towards Luke and Celeste.
“As much as I would love to kick your asses, I have more work to do,” Celeste said, handing Calum the control.
“C’mon mom, is there really anything that you can do on the bus?” Luke said, raising his brows. She chewed her lip, debating for a few seconds.
“I guess not, other than Jacob’s work, which should technically be done by him,” she trailed.
“Yeah, let the asshole do his own work,” Ashton muttered, picking up a controller from the table. Celeste raised her eyebrows.
“You know?” was all she said, which then Ashton turned around, facing her with a small smile.
“We’ve all witnessed Jacob treat you and Macie like shit,” Calum confessed.
“Jacob Andrews is bloody brilliant in his work, but also a fucking prick.” Ashton nodded.
“Well I’m glad to be only dealing with his bullshit for you guys,” Celeste finally said after moments of silence. “Now, I’m gonna kick your asses on the track.”
“Did the bus just stop?”
Celeste blinked, squinting to see the time.
“What time is it,” she croaked. Her legs were tangled with someone’s and someone else’s blonde curly hair was tickling her cheeks (she wasn’t so sure if it was Luke or Ashton). After their Mario Kart tournament (Celeste got second while Ashton got first, to her disappointment), taking a little over an hour, they all fell asleep, one by one, all curled up in the back of the bus on the couch that they all managed to squeeze onto.
“Around 5 o'clock, I think,” the blonde curls said in front of her (Celeste is pretty sure that’s Ashton).
“How long did we sleep?” Luke grumbled, shifting his legs to sit up, which also prompted her legs to the ground. The next thing she knew was that she was falling, and Ashton was going down with her.
“Oof!”
“Ow!”
There were thudding steps coming to the door.
“The bus stopped.”
Celeste blinked, her eyes coming into focus, realizing that she was on top of someone (Ashton) and that their faces were millimeters apart.
“What do you mean the bus stopped?”
Ashton looked at her, his eyes drinking her face in, and Celeste only now realized that he had flecks of green in his hazel-y brown eyes.
“Hi,” he whispered, whilst the boys around them continued to talk.
“If we don’t move, can we just pretend that we’ve fallen asleep until they leave?” she whispered back while closing her eyes and snuggling closer to him.
“Shh, I think they fell asleep,” she heard Mikey said.
“Let’s go out, I’ve never stepped in this much snow before.” Celeste heard some more shuffling and whispering before the door clicked shut behind them.
“Are they gone?” she whispered to Ashton, right up to his ear. He snored softly, his breaths tickling her neck.
“Are you fucking kidding me, you actually fell asleep?” she said, turning her head to face him. Then she heard his giggle.
“Had to play the part wifey.” She rolled her eyes, but couldn’t force the smile on her face to go away. They both stood up; Celeste picked up her phone to see if she had any text updates from Macie or hell Jacob. But alas, none, which may be contributed to the no signal that she was receiving.
“Where are you going?” Ashton had been walking towards the front of the bus, sliding on a beanie and a jacket from near his bunk.
“The bus stopped. Better take the chance to see the snow,” he said, grinning. Celeste didn’t answer him, but she did grab her coat and bobble hat, following him out the bus.
Once Celeste reached outside, it felt like a whole new world. They were out in the countryside, the ground stretching for miles and miles, all covered in white powdery snow. The sun graciously peeked out from the clouds, and there was a light breeze to bring more snowflakes down.
“Wow,” she breathed.
“It truly is something.” She glanced at Ashton, looking at the winter wonderland ahead of them with the same awe that she had (and still has) moments ago.
“Why did we stop?” she turned to see Danny hop out of the bus, shutting the door behind them.
“Traffic was backed up on the highway for another couple hours, putting us to arrive at the venue by 8 or so,” he replied. Celeste frowned, but nodded for him to continue.
“So I made the executive decision to take the country back roads for a shortcut, which was going rather well for the past hour until we ran out of gas. And the brakes seem to be freezing up a little. It was safest to stop.”
“Did you call management to let them know? And we need to call a tow truck or something the way-”
“Don’t worry about it Celeste, I got it covered. You just relax with the boys in this weather for once,” he said, with a knowing look.
“Are you sure Danny, cause I should technically be doing that since it’s in my job description an-”
“Celeste,” Ashton said, holding her shoulders with his hazel eyes staring into hers, “calm down. Danny’s got it.” She sighed, but nodded while watching Danny walk to the front of the bus, making some phone calls.
“Plus, you need the break. You’ve been running yourself ragged since the tour started.” She focused back on Ashton, who was now walking further into the snow, ignoring that the white powder was coating his dark jeans the further he walked.
“Fine,” she huffed.
“Yay! Now let’s make snow angels!” The three other boys were ahead of them, flopped in the snow in the empty pasture, tens of feet ahead of them.
“Are you nine?” Celeste said, staring at him.
“Maybe so, but c’mon!” And so she did, letting Ashton pull her along to the other boys and wiggle in the snow to make extremely tall snow angels.
And she secretly loved it.

Note
What are your OCs' backstories?
OOF ok uh so
theres a lot so ill “condense” it, ill only do the main 3 bc um i have too many ocs
starting with finn, since he was the oldest. his backstory is still a wip, but:
finn was born to a family who didnt want him, and left him on the street, basically. he was found by a man (whose name i still havent thought of oh no) somehow along the way. This man was an artist whose wife recently left him. he raised finn, enrolled him in school, even though he didnt have enough money. they lived on the outskirts of new york city.
back in NJ, lola was born to marisol and martin a couple years after finn. marisol was wery young and naive at the time. she was kind, but people (like martin) often took advantage of her niceness. marisol was a mom but martin was a pretty shit dad; he didnt really like the idea of having a kid and having to stay in one place. He grew to like lola  a bit actually, but not really. the idea of having a family really “weighed him down”, although he didnt really admit it. when lola was 5, marisol told everyne they were to have another kid (chiki). martin didnt want another child so he up and left marisol and lola
when sam was born, lola was 2. Sam’s parents are Antonio and Theresa, who where even shittier parents individually than martin would ever be. theresa was an obsessive, nitpicky, overprotective control freak and antonio was a violent and physically abusive alcoholic, they hated each other but at the same time were really dependent on one another so neither of them permanently left the house. sam was pretty much an accident and theresa couldnt have an abortion because antonio’s parents were super super fuckign religious and she didnt wanna be separated from him
when sam was 4 or so he ran away from home and met lola at a park. she kinda took him back to her house but when marisol found out sam ran away she had to take him back home, where (unknown to marisol) sam was beaten as punishment from antonio
shortly after chiki was born (a couple weeks later after sam ran away), lola’s family moved to another town so marisol could get a better job to provide for her family.
over the next couple years sam was enrolled in school and when he was in third grade or so lola moved back. sam and lola became really really good friends though through school, even when lola was in middle school the two really hung out together.
when lola was 13 (in eighth grade), she realized she wasn’t straight, and consulted sam about it. he suggested she tell her mom, when she was ready. a week later, she told marisol about it. Marisol was very hesitant at first (because she was religious), and lola and her mom’s relationship became strained for about a couple months.
when sam was 13 Theresa left the house and took sam with her after she found antonio sleeping with another woman. they drove all the way out to pennsylvania to stay with Theresa’s family, then theresa got a call from antonio begging her to come back. she said she regretted leaving and turned back around. when sam got back to the house that night he decided to commit suicide, only he wasnt sure if he really wanted to, so he drank a ton of his dad’s liquor to see what would happen. he ended up vomiting and passing out
at the same time, lola entered a junior baking competition. she only got second place, but the judges were impressed nonetheless. though she was only a sophomore, she started looking for cooking schools to go to. marisol became less alienated from her daughter and began to be supportive, not only of lola’s passion for cooking, but of her sexuality too.
meanwhile, finn and his adoptive father moved to new jersey for a more affordable living area. finn wasnt in redsdale yet, it wouldnt be until he was in his 20s he’d move there
back to sam: at age 15, antonio and theresa had another really big fight that caused theresa to leave, but this time, she didnt take sam. antonio in a drunk rage kicked sam out and forced him to go look for his mom and that he couldnt come back until he found her. sam looked around the neighborhood for a couple hours, gave up, and went to lola’s house to sleep there. when he went back to his house, he found out that everything was actually ok, his mom had literally just been hiding in the basement the whole entire time. it was at this point sam decided he should leave his house. he got a job at the surf shop down the road, and dropped out of school at 16 to get a second job at the grocery store
when lola was 18 she graduated from school, finally. she had gotten numerous scholarships and went to a school a couple hours away from home. her and sam kept in contact through texting a bit but not much. lola had a pretty hard time in college at first because she wasn’t used to constructive criticism and following directions n stuff. she was pretty headstrong and impatient as a kid but it’s here that she learned to be more meticulous and accept others’ advice. gradually she started to do really good. she became *almost* top of her class towards the end of her second year. she took an internship her third year to work in a kitchen in a pretty fancy restaurant.
when sam was 18, he moved out of the house. life was pretty good as he was able to afford more on his own and do better w/o the stress of his parents. he started exercising a lot more (he had a bit before but his parents starved him a lot (not really intentionally, they were just really neglectful and he wasnt a priority to them)) and was teaching himself self defense/how to fight especially since his parents didnt want him leaving and they might try to follow him
during break for lola and for sam’s 19th birthday, lola took him to a rock concert. this is where sam met lynn. they kept in contact w/ each other for a couple months as friends and then decided to date. for sam and lynn’s 1 month anniversary, sam wrote lynn a song and played it for her. the next day lynn asked to join her 2 person band in need of a 3rd member
in the meantime finn was having some rough patches with his dad. he really wanted to go to art school but they couldnt afford it. finn had to get a job at an early age to support the family since they didnt have a lot of money
things were going well with the band sam was in until mikey (band leader/singer) had been caught w/ lynn. sam found out this was not just a one night stand, but instead had been going on for a year. sam went to mikey’s house out of anger and beat mikey up to the point where mikey was literally on the verge of death. lynn found him in his house alone and got him to the hospital. sam was arrested but not tried, since mikey’s parents (cassandra and micheal sr) didnt want mikey to go to jail too (since mikey was kinf of a drug dealer on the side and if mikey’s house was investigated bc of the crime scene for evidence theyd def find illegal shit? i guess? yea)
lola caught this on the new and was furious with sam. she’d become pretty distant w/ him bc of being so busy with college, so she broke it off with him. sam went into a pretty bad depression and started drinking and going to bars n shit and picking up girls
after awhile he realized his life was really fucked up and tried getting some jobs but no one would hire him because of a spotty criminal record
lola in the mean time graduated college and went back to redsdale to visit her mom. she wanted to still live there despite the fact she could pretty much go anywhere else considering how good of a chef she was. but instead she wanted to live close to her mother. she got a job at a restaurant by the ocean owned by frank. it wasnt doing so well; chefs were constantly coming and going, the place was out of date, etc. lola quickly became head chef there and practically saved frank’s failing business.
sam found out lola was in town and wanted her help. they apologized to each other and she decided to help. lola got sam a job at frank’s restaurant since frank said he owed lola for her helping him.
going back a couple years, finn moved out of his house at 22. he was super stressed out over working so he moved near the ocean in hopes of “rediscovering” himself. in the first couple years he was in redsdale, he developed his art a lot and painted mostly stuff of the ocean. he decided he needed a job, and got one at frank’s restaurant as a janitor. this is where finn met lola.
eventually sam met finn as well after sam got a job there, and they became pretty good friends. finn didnt like sam at first but after a bit he warmed up to him. after a year or so sam realized he had a crush on finn and this time, consulted lola and realized he wasnt straight. it took him a couple weeks to prepare but after a bit sam told finn he liked him. plot twist, finn was gay this whole time, luckily
pretty much everything wraps up here, sam and finn are dating now
and we’re in the current modern day
yea

Previous parts: 1 2 3 4 5 6
This day had to come. This day was bound to creep on us sooner. This day may not seem huge to some people, but it’s huge to me.
The last show of their first leg of the tour. Also known as, the day I’ve decided to go back home to my lonely, small, quiet home...all by myself.
When did I decide this? Probably about 5 hours ago at 7 am when I impulsively bought a plane ticket, while at breakfast with Luke, Ashton, and Arzaylea. While the couple talked throughout breakfast, Ashton kept nudging me and bugging me about what had me so fixated on my small screen, but he leaned over a little far at one point and gave an annoyed sigh before throwing his share for his own food and walked out of the eatery. Luke and Arzaylea still haven’t figured it out.
Now here I am, packing my things, the memories of the last couple of weeks with the boys coming down on me. I picked up a black and white stripped shirt that I wore the day of their 3rd concert, the one where Michael spilled a little too much water on me backstage after the show, and my bra peeked through; of course he didn’t seem to mind though. I then started placing the different colored bracelets Ashton gave me within the second week of tour inside a little pouch in my suitcase. They made me smile because they matched his, so I’d always have a little part of him.
Then it got to my lingerie and undergarments, many of which I wore when Calum was over. I held back tears, my throat becoming itchy, as I packed them deeply away underneath anything else I could.
I heard a knock at my door, and saw Ash standing there, leaning against the door still looking displeased.
“You know they’re asking about what happened at breakfast right?”
I only rolled my eyes. “Why am I not surprised.”
“I’m not telling them, you are.” He strode toward my suitcase and began taking out the nicely folded clothes and even took things out of the pouches. The room went silent when he saw the colorful bracelets, and even the same bra from that night when everything took a turn for the worst. He bent down and studied them both, the memories hitting him hard as well.
“After all these weeks, you still have these bracelets?” He questioned quietly. I only gave him a nod. “And this...I remember this little number...everything felt so right that night.” He smiled sadly at the moment that practically changed everything; the friendship, the relationship, his ability to forgive himself for one mistake.
“Well, at least for one person it did.” He threw it back down next to the bracelets and began striding out of the room. I took two big steps before pulling him by the cuff of his sleeve, stopping him.
“Don’t do that to me. You don’t get to be mad at me for the decision I’m making. So what if I’m leaving? So what if I don’t want to be here anymore? It is not my fault that because of my stupid mistakes I don’t want to be in a place where I am not welcome anymore Ashton. Sorry that you don’t have a choice. You’re a part of this band, these are your best friends and even though you’re having a fight with one of them doesn’t mean you can take it out on me because you can’t run away from it like I’m doing.”
“You’re being selfish. You’re thinking of only yourself. Which is exactly what Calum said the other night when you tried talking to him right?” Slap. Instantly my hand landed on his right cheek, making it head and hair whip to the side and cover his face. My breathing was heavier and louder, the feeling of my cheeks getting red growing. He turned his head back slowly, his eyes like dagger stabbing into my skin. I could just the anger dripping off of him.
“Y/N look...” he tried to sound sympathetic, but I only held up my finger and pointed it at the door.
“Just get out.” He knew he was defeated, and that he hit a spot in me that stung. Before I shut the door on him, he turned back slightly and whispered, “Just call me when you get there, please. I need to know that you’ll be safe.” I hummed in response, and shut the door, leaning my back against it.
Hiding my suitcase backstage behind a bunch of curtains was surprisingly easy. It was easy access, and since I would be leaving 15 minutes before the end of the guys show, nobody would really know that I had left. The only person I’d truly have to say goodbye to is Ashton since he was the only one that knew, or so I thought.
Arzaylea caught me at the snack table and tugged on my jacket, getting as far away from the boys as possible. I gave her a confused look, waiting for her to tell me what was going on since she looked so worried.
“Arz, w-what’s going on-”
“I bugged Ashton for hours about what went wrong this morning, and he finally told me.” She crossed her arms staring me down, while I was looked down messing with my fingers.
“Look, please don’t be upset with me-”
“Oh, you think I’m just upset. That’s rich. I’m more than upset with you Y/N. You’ve become like a sister to me, I thought you were stronger and had more integrity than you’re showing right now. You’re letting a stupid boy get in the way of you living your best life. You think you’ve fucked up? You think I haven’t fucked up either! This-this is all just so disappointing.”
“You have to understand that I’m miserable here now. There’s never a day that goes by anymore that I don’t blame myself for how things have laid out the past couple of weeks. I’ve only made things worst since being here, when I wasn’t even suppose to be in the first place!” I felt the water prickle in my eyes, but clenched my fists to help make it go away.
“If you’re mad because you feel like once I’m gone you feel like we’ll never see or talk to me again, then I can make a promise that that won’t happen.” She only scuffed, but in an amusing way.
“That’s partly why.” She pushed my shoulder playfully as we both smiled at each other.
“I’ll still text you, facetime you and call you. Just because Calum and I can’t get along great doesn’t mean I have to give up some of the best people in my life. I just have to...give him some space. It’s for the best.” I peeked over her shoulder slightly to see Calum biting into a green apple, water bottle in his other hand. I couldn’t help but shutter at the veins popping out of his neck and how defined his jawline got when it jutted out to eat the piece of the apple. It’s the simple things Calum did that got under my skin.
Arzaylea pulled me into a tight hug then pulled back to smile at me, and proceeded to do what most girls do with their best friends, take a snapchat. She pulled up a funny filter to get me to calm down and smile, but after the picture was taken, something slimy and runny was piled on top of my head.
Arzaylea and I jumped back from each other as some of it did get on her too, then we turned around to find Nia with a smirk holding the big plate that was dead center of the snack table that was labeled “Spaghetti.” The crew and everyone stopped doing whatever they were doing, and watched to find out what was going to happen next.
“Nia what the fuck!” Arz yelled, wiping off the bits of tomato sauce that was now on her clothes and hair.
“She deserved it.” She came up close to my face, trying to intimidate me however I held my ground and stared her right back down.
“That’s for making Calum break up with me.” She chuckled. “You think he’d really eventually end up falling for you? Oh girl, you’ve got it so wrong. He told me all the awful things you’ve done to him, but don’t worry, I fucked all the bad feelings out of him.” Before I could hear another word, I pushed past her walking fast toward the curtain where my suitcase was located. Sure, I’d have to wait in the airport for almost 2 hours, but I couldn’t stand to be in anybody’s presence anymore. I felt an arm tug me around, and the same husky voice from before rang through my ears.
“Y/N what are you doing, you can’t leave now!” He yelled in my face.
“Ashton! Stop trying to make my decisions for me. You may love me but you don’t know what’s best for me.” His grip instantly loosened and I took the chance to take my arm from his hand. “Now let me go.” And grab my suitcase hoisting it up from the ground and running toward the back exit.
I didn’t see it, but I left Calum standing there with his food now sprawled across the floor at his feet, a dumbfounded look on his face, and for the first time in a while, an aching heart.
Calum’s POV
The last show of this first leg of the tour was thrilling and exciting, but once my body left that crowd of energy and happiness, reality snapped back into me, and all my confusion and frustration came out of me when I chucked my water bottle at the nearest wall, and it exploded everywhere. Michael’s soft voice could be heard right behind me, telling me to calm down and to not take my anger out so aggressively like that because who knows, I could’ve hit a person instead.
“Look, I know MIkey, I’m sorry...I just-I’m so confused right now.” We both plopped down on the couch in our dressing room, my hands coming up to my face.
“What did Ashton mean by ‘you can’t leave now’ when he was talking to Y/N? And what was in her hands when she was running away...”
“She left.”
My hands came down from my face, hoping and praying I’d see a laughing MIchael after that statement. It just couldn’t be true. But after a few seconds had passed, he continued to nod his head, as if he was still trying to make the situation seem real.
“She left Cal. She went back home tonight. Ashton told me before we went on stage tonight. He couldn’t tell you because he knew it would only distract you more. He just doesn’t want to keep making you mad mate, he cares for you so much even after everything.” His hand came up to my shoulder giving it a friendly squeeze. My chest sank lower in my chest trying to piece together just how bad everything had gotten, my life outside of the lights and music, was falling into shambles.
“I need to go make up with him first.” Michael smiled and agreed, both of us quickly grabbing our stuff before heading out. He informed me that Ashton had drove straight to the hotel we were staying at right after the show ended, and that Luke and Arzaylea were spending some time together tonight out and about. We headed straight after to him to patch things up. Even though that was the first thing on my mind, I was secretly hoping Y/N just might be there.
We raced up to the elevator and impatiently waiting until it reached our floor, only to find Ashton just closing his door as if he was leaving. I ran up to him and tackled him in a big hug, his weight leaning against mine to stop us from falling. I was holding him so tight the indents in my arms were showing through, and my hand veins were popping out.
“Ash, ash I’m so sorry for everything dude. You come before anyone else and I shouldn’t have blamed you for everything happening.” We pulled away and he smiled so big his famous dimples showed, and the crinkles near my eyes accompanied my own smile.
“Cashton, always man.” And we did one of those bro handshakes, Michael leaning against the hallway wall watching this beautiful moment unfold. My eyes slowly drooped after things quieted down. Ashton could read my mind, and his arms reached out to gently rub my shoulders.
“So, she’s really gone?”
“I just got off the phone with her. I raced back here to see if she’d still be here but, no luck.” I shook my head in disbelief, disappointed in myself for being as stubborn as I was and almost losing my best friend, along with the girl of my dreams. “Her plane should be taking off soon, I’d say text her Cal. She needs to hear from you that you at least don’t hate her.”
“But that’s the point. I don’t hate her at all, I feel so strongly for her, more than I ever thought I could for someone...” Michael came behind me and leaned his head on me sighing. The weight of her gone now upon all of us. The atmosphere seemed different, the vibe between all of us was still off, as if the Earth was off its axis and everything seemed...wrong.
“Why don’t we get some rest now guys, we’ve worked hard these past couple of weeks. Let’s enjoy these next few days before our next leg? Am I right?” We all agreed and they decided to walk with me to my room and stay the night, just so we knew that we were all there for each other if one of us needed something throughout the night.
As we entered the room, I walked in first to see a familiar jet black sleek suitcase sitting next to the door. My eyes widened and I looked up to see Ashton holding back a small grin, jutting out his chin, telling me to go see what I was already thinking. My legs quickly carried me past the small curve of the room into the bedroom, seeing a small Y/N sitting crossed legged on my bed in the first t-shirt I ever gave her to keep when I wasn’t around her, my Maine t-shirt.
She stood up upon hearing my loud strides and the shirt fell to just above her privates, her hair disheveled and her makeup slightly streaky, like she had been crying.
“Calum...” her voice croaked. I looked back at the boys, watching them in awe as Michael’s face lit up at the sight of her, Ashton looking proud. And they both walked slowly out of the room, leaving us alone.
“They told me you left...” I said in disbelief.
“I couldn’t...I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t get on that plane and fly away from you, not without fixing things first.” She walked closer to me timidly. I had to bring her closer, so I pulled her in by her waist, wrapping my large hand around the back of her head and placing it underneath my chin, my other hand tightly wrapped around her waist. My breathing became heavy, my heart beat racing, my head filling up with euphoric memories.
“You’re-you’re heart is beating so fast Cal...”
“It’s because it’s happy to be close to you again.” She pulled away to look up at me, her eyes glossy once again, a happy yet sad look in her eyes, as if she didn’t know how to feel in his moment.
“Y/N I am so sorry for never letting you have a chance at explaining things to me, or never giving you a chance to speak and finish your sentences. And I’m sorry that it took me so long to realize it and that it took you almost leaving for me to realize that I never stopped feeling for you. But I promise if you stay, right here, with me, you won’t ever have to go through something like this again. We could have the love we’ve always wanted.” I pleaded. Without hesitation she reached up and brought my face to meet hers, her lips lightly pressing the softest kiss we’d ever shared. I couldn’t help but deepen it, feeling her smaller frame pushed up against mine again. We rested our foreheads against one another as she brought her hands to rest on my chest, lightly rubbing her thumbs over the material.
“I wouldn’t have ever called this love before.” Gesturing to the past complicated relationship we had.
“What about right now?”
“It’s the only word I can use to describe it.”
YAY IT’S FINISHED. I was going to add smut but this alone took me 3 hours so I’m extremely tired you guys ;( request smut though if you want it! Again, thank you so much on the love for this story! I put up a ‘would you rather’ post so if you could, please look at it and tell me which story you’d like to write next. Btw GGMOW will be up soon as well!
