Slightly obsessed with this because she is listening to a mechanical device producing music—a real 1830s boom box!

It's a hand-cranked barrel organ, of course, but still small enough to be held in her lap!

This c. 1830 barrel organ sold at auction plays eight songs!

Another barrel organ made c. 1835 is described as playing "four dance sections." Given the focus on social dancing at the time, and the need for dance instruction, I wonder if something like this small barrel organ was the sound system for dancing classes.

i have this headcanon that annabeth is completely nonchalant in her day-to-day life. and it makes so much sense to me because this girl dedicates all of her brain power/energy toward surviving, ensuring a future as an architect, and toward living the rest of her natural life with the people she loves, that mundane things like whether or not to wear her slippers on the correct feet are pointless to her. like, to me, annabeth dips her bagels in a jar of cream cheese and bagel seasoning because fuck it. to me, annabeth steals percy's pants and throws on a hoodie because she doesn't feel like walking across the room to retrieve a bra and a shirt from her dresser. to me, annabeth uses an office chair to transport herself around her and percy's apartment because free will.

We see Percy, Vex, and Grog looking in something in shock. There's fire and smoke everywhere and it looks like Grog is cradling Cassandra (based on the boots and red shirt) - so is this Whitestone getting attacked?

That's a pretty significant change from the livestream, but not one that I'm against necessarily!

"Disney's princess needs to have more diverse personalities!" Yes true, sure, but also

Disney's first three Princesses (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora) are all graceful, sweet, like singing songs about dreams and wishes, and do not actively fight: "omg they're such anti-feminist caricatures!!!"

Disney's next princesses have more established emotions and personalities, alongside the establishment of the "I Want" song as applied to motives outside of love (exploration, adventure, making their family proud): "OMG Ariel traded her voice for a man, how stupid!" "Belle's so stuck-up!" "Jasmine's just a spoiled brat!"

Tiana's a dedicated hard worker, loves her family a lot, and wants her loved ones to be very happy even at her own expense and gets... totally ignored in this conversation, gee I wonder why

Rapunzel, Anna, and now Asha are a little bit awkward, silly, but exuberant and get written off as "stupid adorkable" despite the other tenets of their personalities setting them apart, like Rapunzel's creativity, Anna's dedication to her family, and how Asha strives to help those around her

Moana gets called a disobedient brat for seeing beyond her father's narrow-mindedness

Disney Princesses have many wonderfully different personalities. It's just that people are dedicated to misinterpreting them, and that's why I never take the "Disney Princesses need more diverse personalities!" comment at face value.

The Super 17 arc in GT bothers me on many levels, but this one moment in particular irks me to this day.

Poor 18 just watched her husband murdered in front of her face, by her own brother, and is now having to help kill said brother to avenge her husband and save the planet and so forth and they decide... "hey, this would be a great place to insert some fanservice". Like that's all it is, too. You don't need to have her rip her shirt like that to emphasize where that bomb supposedly was. You don't need to have a bunch of cleavage show. You don't need to be establishing exactly what kind of bra she's wearing under that. C'mon, man. Just... jeez, read the room.

On the one hand, I love divorced Jack & Janet Drake where Jack is per canon and so for contrast Janet is supportive of Tim being Robin.

On the other hand, I want an AU where Janet lived instead of Jack, and she's more empathetic and observant than Jack, but even busier so we can still have Tim running around as Robin for several years without being caught--

And when Janet does find out she storms Wayne Manor like Jack did in canon and actually fucking shoots Bruce.

masked goopy is tricky because there's not really a lot going on up there... it loooves interacting with employees (even if it isn't mutual XD;; ) because of some itch that it cant really figure out how to scratch, "hey these funny guys seems like the right direction!!" just so clueless all the time tho... and like not self-aware at all

wu zetian and li shimin ironwidow start out as a fascinating duo. she's a conscripted concubine/sacrifice who beat the odds and killed the murderer of her sister before he had the chance to kill her. he's a death row prisoner who killed his whole family in retaliation for some form of abuse (against him? against another person?) and has killed many more women via the cannibalistic system of in-universe mecha piloting. they're paired together with the explicit reasoning that he'll probably also kill her while piloting---use up her spiritual and mental energy until nothing is left, which he has also done to every other woman he's been paired with up to this point. I cannot stress enough that at least one woman has died because of li shimin in every battle he's ever fought, if only in the way that a murder committed with a weapon can technically be attributed to that weapon even if it's being wielded by someone else---and she hates him. of course she hates him! she's suicidal and being propelled forward only by her desire for vengeance and her deep, unwavering concern for the wellbeing of women like her sister, who are dehumanized and turned into statistics, considered necessary sacrifices. wu zetian rejects the idea that there's any such thing as a necessary sacrifice, or at least that if sacrifices must be made that they have to be women. why would she ever like someone who's representative of the systemic consumption of women? she and li shimin have such similar-but-different relationships to violence borne out of necessity and then it just.... doesn't really go anywhere. everything zetian found scary or untrustworthy about shimin was a misunderstanding all along. he's actually a big softie under the prisoner tattoo and the scars from years of mistreatment and the storied record of violent behavior. even his addiction was forced on him by other people (which isn't to say that being an addict is morally wrong but it's another thing he has no agency in. he has almost no agency in this book) and she forgives him. zetian forgives him for everything and pushes the women, the twelve dead women to whom li shimin was a gun pressed to their heads, aside. the women she's sworn since the start of the book she would never lose sight of. anyway let's talk about li shimin some more. he feels bad about it now. let's focus on his manpain about his girlfriend who he ate that one time
