This is for Hermes and their favorite uncles/aunts from no.1 to last. This will be categorized because i CANNOT decide which one is their favorite.

Uncles:

Scott would DEFINITELY be no.1 favorite.

1. He lives near Stratos so I like to think Joel drops him off at Chromia whenever he and Sausage are busy and can't take care of Hermes.

2. I think it's cute seeing little Hermes riding one of Scott's llamas.

fWhip. He is the fun uncle. Also the rich one because he lives in caves and all. And he has definitely given Hermes A LOT of gemstones and rocks he finds.

Jimmy. Also the fun uncle. Hermes doesn't hang out with Jimmy a lot because well, conflict between him and Joel lol-

Pixl. Pix would definitely tell Hermes about all the structures/artifacts he finds in his adventures. He also tells Hermes about the past and everything he knows about it.

Joey is last on this list because he and Joel are currently enemies :D

Aunts:

Lizzie. I mean- judging by her most recent episode, she definitely is the favorite aunt. I dont think Hermes is gonna hang out with her often because of what happened but she's the favorite!

Gem. It's the bees. Hermes ABSOLUTELY adores Gem's bees. And they like her crown. They think it's shiny and pretty!

Katherine. She and Hermes go out to tend to her sheep and they make orders together :D

Imagine Sausage walks into Glimmer Grove to see them making a hat for Sausage as per Hermes' request.

Shrub. She probably takes Hermes on broom stick rides. And it's cute. She probably uses some of her SAFER spells on Hermes for like- floating for funsies and like, making things glow and such.

False. She doesn't hang out with Hermes often but she definitely gives Hermes a lot of gifts whenever she can take care of them! She shows Hermes her iron golems and tours them around her place :3

Love island

A/N: I got super bored and I was on an love island binge and got really inspired to the point where I decided to make a story out of it I wanted to do like a mini series off of this but I’m not sure just know there is gonna be a part two with smut😏

You used to watch love island with your family every week there was a new episode you were so excited when you got the call that you will be on love island

“Oh my godddd mir!!!!!” Your sister said excitedly

“I know I fly out there in a couple of days!!” You said it was true you had to fly out there soon because you we’re gonna be one of the new arrivals

On the plane ride you kept thinking about how awesome this was and you were excited if anything there was one boy that you did have interest in

And that was Jack

You thought he was cute

Watching him on the island you knew he’s the one you wanted to go for

When you got off the plane you weee met with a person driver he greeted you before putting you stuff in the trunk and opening the door for you

The ride was a little long but it was also peaceful

Once you got there you couldn’t believe it You knew that you weren’t going into the villa right away because they had the girls go out for drinks while the boys stayed and…. Did boy things

You did you introduction about your self while waiting you met two of the other girls

“Hii I’m mir nice to meet you girls” I said they both smiled

“Your really pretty” Bee said in her Australian accent

“Thank you so much” you said

“I fucking love your hair how did you do that” Abby said

You laughed You explained to her how you did my hair until it was time for you guys to go into the villa

All the girls were nervous but they pushed it aside walked straight in

“Heyy boys” bee shouted at them they all shouted

They walked over to them

You were a bit nervous but you were so happy because you finally get to meet Jack after crushing over him on tv

“Hey I’m mir nice to meet you all” you said they All smiled at you but one of them stuck out

“I can’t believe this is happening” Aj said he was a cute boy he had a fro a couple of tattoos

Eventually all the boys settled down you wanted to talk to him so bad you talk to bee about it

“Girl your in here for a reason I really think you should try and talk to him while the girls are still gone” she said and she was right you weren’t really gonna have time to talk to him with Diamond all over him

“Alright I’m gonna do it” you said she hyped you up about it you walked over to where he was sitting

“Can I sit” you said

“Sure” he smiled

“Hii I’m mir nice to me you” you said obviously he knew who you were because you already said that but you wanted to start a conversation

“Jack nice to meet you” you thought you we’re gonna melt he was so cute

“So how are things in here besides the obvious” I said

“I mean for me it could be better” he said

If one thing you’ve been keeping you know that diamond said she didn’t know how she felt about her and Jack she was playing with his feelings

Maybe you coming into the villa you would change things

“Look I’m gonna just be straight forward I came in here for you” I said

“Oh wow okay!!!” I nervously laughed

You walked around getting to know the other boys there was Ben,Aj,mark,Alex ,and Jack

And honestly out of all of them you still wanted jack

You were talking with Alex when you heard the girls come back they all look puzzled to see three new girls talk to there men

One of the girls came running to you her name was Alison

“Omg welcome!!!” She said she was really sweet

“Thank you so much”

All the girls greeted you except the diamond she just stood there you got the impression and you already knew you wanted to try to talk to her and see for your self

“Heyy” you said

“Hi” she said kinda dry

“I’m mir nice to meet you” you said holding out your hand but she swiped it away

The day went on it and night time began

You were sitting by yourself collecting your thoughts thinking about how this experience was gonna go you felt someone sit next to you looking over you smiled

“That’s great” but before he could say something somebody had gotta a text

“Tomorrow all the boys will get a chance to talk to the 3 new girls

And hey, just saying, I get the feeling that Masha, if anything, would be even more interested in you if they knew you were a shapeshifting snake girl from another dimension Vee. Just saying.

Masha figures out that the symbols is supposed to be a rebus with images substituting words. The thing I thought was a soundwave in front of the ear was an H, spelling out ”hear” (or possibly ”here”).

Based on this revelation, the witchlings (as soon as Masha conveniently leaves the frame and thus can’t hear what they’re talking about) figure out that the bottom three symbols spell out ”Titan’s blood.” Which is what I guessed this map was leading them to all along, so that’s not a huge revelation for me.

But let’s go back to the top half of the rebus. Eye Hear. Which can spell out a few things. I hear. I here. Eye here.

Looking at the map again, I notice that the red line seems to go from the Eye symbol to the X that marks the spot, which makes me suspect that might have something to do with things. Maybe there’s some eye symbol they need to look for where the titan’s blood is hidden. The portal door has an eye on it, so saying ”Eye here” and then marking the spot makes sense… kinda. I dunno, maybe it’s only in my head.

Otherwise I’m not sure what it’s supposed to mean yet. I hear… hear what?

You know I gotta screenshot some cute stuff.

Let’s see… we’ve got the kids watching a movie and… I think that might be a reference to Hocus Pocus?  No wonder Willow and Amity both aren’t looking too impressed. Whatever you do, no one read these girls Roald Dahl’s The Witches.

It also looks like Luz honored Eda’s wishes and went on a beach episode together with Amity. It’s must’ve been an experience, swimming in a non-boiling sea for the first time.

We also have the river rapids, with Luz looking ecstatic, Amity, Vee & Gus being in various stages of panic, and Hunter stoically to the side. Can’t tell if he’s nervous but doesn’t want to show it, or if he’s just kinda unimpressed. 

I am confident in saying he’s definitely panicking as he’s being attacked by a swarm of bees, as would most people. What did you even do to piss them off, Hunter? Oh, and it’s a nice detail that the flowers Willow is tending to in the picture is the same kind as she has taped in the photo album.

I see my snake daughter thriving and I’m loving it.

I feel like the fireflies might be a call-back to the lightning bugs Luz used to charge her phone back during season two.

I’m gonna pretend that the leaf taped in the album is the same leaf that Vee used to tickle Willow’s nose in the picture, even though it clearly isn’t.

Amity continues to be this episodes punching bag as we see her struggling to make perfect circles during glyph training and getting flustered when Willow photographed her and Luz sharing a milkshake.

Nice bit of continuity: that vase Gus is juggling with is the same vase we saw Camila use in Reaching Out. An even nicer bit of continuity is that there’s a different flower in the vase than the one Camila put there in Reaching Out. Since that was a few months ago and most flowers don’t last that long in vases. Unless they’re lego flowers, like all the ones I have.

What I’ve learned...

Ugh... #31 really makes me not want to live in Townsville. So easy to blame the girls despite the obviousness that they never did those things. It is nice to see Mojo go Trick or Treating with the girls though. #32: Welp, Catwoman would steal the pants off of everyone if she was in Townsville. Meanwhile this Cat Burglar got a crush on Professor. Honestly, she’s probably the most non-Powerpuff Female to have a good development other than Keene.

So Mojo made a mini him in #33. But the real highlight was the Fuzzy/Mojo feud. There was comic exclusive villains like Spelling Bee (whose entire gimmick is she spells what she wants done) and Frog Master (whose reason for being a villain is he’s crazy) HIM basically had all of Townsville under his control in 36. And Sedusa finally does something in that same issue with Mind Controlling Lipstick. Though the Bikini Sisters in the Reboot do this better. For starters, it doesn’t wash off.

Remember Ace being a member of the Gorillaz for a hot minute? Turns out in #37, he was part of a boy band with the rest of the Gangreen Gang. 4evRGreen. And in the second story, HIM creates a music band so popular, even the girls love their music. A big weakness of the original series is that for a good number of times, they seem to act like one person. Like this issue, they ALL like the Slayhems. Even Blossom and Bubbles who you would think are not into Horror Metal. 

Issue 38 has them idolizing a TV Superhero. It is cute to see Buttercup being too nervous to talk to them. I know that feeling. But when a real monster shows up, they are Marks and think Tess could handle it. Tess, meanwhile, does nothing to suggest she believes she’s real. She’s a celebrity playing a character and playing the role while signing autographs. She does not deserve this. 

So Issue 41 has Buttercup obsessed with Garlic. Like super obsessed. It also has a Giant Monster capable of absorbing people. When it does the Powerpuff girls, it has all their powers, but also their quirks. Issue 44 promises the Talking Dog fighting the Talking Cat from that one episode. It better live up to that promise. Dog Chunks... Now with more dogs... DUDE! WTF!!! And the fight lasts for at most 2 pages. 

Best Feat I found... 

From Issue 34: The Monkey’s Paw (or Tragic Marker). A weapon so powerful it can rearrange the atomic structure of an object to something else all by spelling it. That is frikkin impressive!

What Could Happen In Season 4 - Miraculous Theories / Discussion

I would like to start a discussion. What could happen in Season 4?

Who Could Be Akumatized?

One interesting question I don’t think anyone asks is, who will get akumatized in Season 4? It has been confirmed that Chloe, Luka & Kagami will be akumatized again in Season 4. 

There are a few people that have not been akumatized yet such as Marlena Cesaire, who is Alya’s mom. Another interesting person that has not been akumatized yet because this person has only been in one episode so far is none other than Felix Graham de Vanily. I feel like he should be akumatized in Season 4. According to the MLB fandom, Felix will be appearing in Season 4. He would probably get akumatized because well, he’s evil.

Who Is The Future Queen Bee?

I know people have discussed this already but I would like to talk about it. Who the heck is the future bee miraculous holder? The designs for the future bee miraculous holder were leaked but it was pretty blurry but we could all spot that the future miraculous holder is blonde. 

Some people speculated that it could be Aurore Beaureal or it could be Chloe but I doubt that. Some people think it could be Amber Bourgeois, who is Chloe’s cousin. I do think the future Queen Bee is someone related to Chloe. People have noticed that the future bee miraculous holder is taller that Marinette which could mean that she is around Luka’s age of 17.

Lila Redemption Arc?

This is something I feel should happen but I think wont happen, a Lila redemption arc. I know 99.9% of the MLB fandom hates Lila but then again, we don’t know much about Lila. All we know is that Lila moved to Paris from Italy with her mom & she goes to Francois Dupont High School & lies a lot. For all that we know she could have daddy issues, which I’m pretty sure she has since her dad has not been mentioned once in the show so far. Also, Lila actually could be lying just because she is insecure or maybe I’m just reading too much into it.

What Is Felix’s Deal In Season 4?

We all remember Felix, right? According to Wilfried Pain on Twitter, Felix will be returning in Season 4 & I already know it’s going to be bad. Considering the fact that Felix wanted to side with Hawk Moth in “Felix” is already scary enough. Most likely Felix will come back to Paris to visit the Agreste family once again & cause some mischief while he’s there maybe even talk to Lila, who knows. I really want Lila & Felix to work together not gonna lie.

Adrienette Growth?

Lets get a bit serious here, we need a little bit of growth between Marinette & Adrien. If they are ever going to become a couple they need to at least establish a friendship because what’s going on right now, I don’t see them getting together anytime soon.

WHAT SHIPS ARE GONNA HAPPEN?

I know everyone is really into the love square & all but I’m interested in some new ships. I know people are really into Lukanette & Adrigami as well but there are A LOT of other ships.

One ship that I feel is very important & interesting is Lukloe aka Luka x Chloe. I love this ship not because it’s cute because it’s essential for a Chloe redemption arc. Luka is a kind hearted boy & I’m sure he can really help Chloe. Also one thing that people have noticed is that if you invert Chloe & Luka’s color palette they have the opposite’s colors. Another thing to bring up is that Luka & Chloe’s voice actors apparently were in the studio one day doing well voice acting for Season 4 which could be hinting at Lukloe being a possibility.

Another ship that people think may happen is Lukagami aka Luka x Kagami. People started speculating that this ship could possibly happen due to a conversation that Marinette & Kagami were having at the end of “Ikari Gozen”. This conversation was about there zodiac signs, which Marinette’s sign being snake & Kagami’s being dragon & someone on Reddit decided to do a bit of research about this & according to this Reddit post, the love compability between dragon & snake is good which means Lukagami is a possibility.

When Is Shadow Moth Showing Up?

I think the first thing we all think of when we here “Miraculous Ladybug Season 4″ is bananas at this point but remember father of year, Gabriel Agreste? Apparently in Season 4 he’s going unify the butterfly & peacock miraculouses & someone is gonna get hurt.

One thing we don’t know is when he is showing up. I have an inkling that Shadow Moth may show up in either the episode “Gabriel Agreste” or maybe in episode 22 aka the 100th episode of Miraculous Ladybug. Usually in an 100th episods something big happens so maybe Shadow Moth is going to make his debut in the 100th episode.

Why Are Chloe, Luka & Kagami Getting Akumatized In Season 4?

Even since I heard that Chloe, Luka & Kagami were being akumatized once again in Season 4, I was floored. With these 3 akumatizations, this makes 4 total akumatizations for Chloe, 3 total akumatizations for Kagami & 2 total akumatizations for Luka.

With Kagami & Luka being akumatized again, that makes me question if Lukanette & Adrigami will happen. After the New York special, people thought that Adrien & Kagami were dating, they’re not, same with Luka & Marinette. Maybe something will happen with Lukanette & Adrigami & then something might cause some problems with will result in Luka & Kagami being akumatized once again. One thing to point out is their previous akumatizations, Silencer & Onichan. Luka was akumatized because his crush, Marinette was having her hard work stolen which of course angered Luka enough to be akumatized. Kagami was akumatized because Lila took a picture of her kissing Adrien on the cheek & decided to post it on social media for everyone to see which this angered Kagami enough to be akumatized. I brought up why they were akumatized previously to show that Luka & Kagami’s next akumatizations could be because of something regarding their crushes.

I have a couple ideas of how Chloe would be akumatized again. One thing to point out about each of Chloe’s last three akumatizations is that they’re all superhero themed. Antibug is based off Ladybug, Queen Wasp & Miracle Queen are of course based of Queen Bee. I have noticed in the show that there are a few patterns such as this one which I’m sure they’re continuing in Season 4. Perhaps Chloe’s next akumatization is based of the butterfly miraculous due to her being on Hawk Moth’s side or maybe the peacock miraculous.

What Will Happen In The 100th Episode?

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS? If there is anybody talking about the 100th episode leave it in the comments. If nobody is aware, the 100th episode is episode 22 of Season 4. Usually when a series has a 100th episode they do something big for it. With Miraculous, there are a lot of possibilities. Here is a list of things that could happen in the 100th episode & then I’ll break some of them down:

-reveal   -Hawk Moth reveal   -Adrienette happens   -Emilie comes back to life    -Shadow Moth arrives   -new Hawk Moth arrives   -a huge battle   -someone dies   -someone gets a redemption arc   

Now there is one thing on this list I know for sure is not going to happen. The reveal. Thomas Astruc has stated that the reveal will happen at the end of Season 5. Emilie coming back to life, I really don’t think that’s going to happen. If Emilie is alive, there really is no reason why Ladybug & Cat Noir would be around Paris UNLESS.. our favorite little liar, Lila “Liar” Rossi could steal the butterfly miraculous & become Farfalla or whatever she will be called.

The Owl House, Season 1, Episode 8, “Once Upon a Swap,” First Impressions!

I see what they’re getting at, but...

So last episode was heavily focused on the series’ main draw: the dynamic between Luz and Amity and their developing relationship. As such, it makes sense to pull things back for the next episode and do a more self-contained wacky, fun adventure, which is what I expected them to do.

But while I liked this episode and laughed a lot, it was kind of...

Well, we’ll get to that later.

Anyway, what’s our plot? While manning Eda’s human novelties booth, Luz, Eda, and King get into an argument about who has the most difficult life, with each believing that the other has it pretty easy. To solve this, Eda just spontaneously has them switch bodies and live a day in someone’s else’s shoes, with Eda going into King’s body, King going into Luz, and Luz going into Eda. So it’s a deliberate Freaky Friday setup, complete with a blatant shoutout to the actual movie.

Now, this is a funny, and I really like the new designs for the characters, especially King in Luz’s body. Like, she (or he?) just looks outright feral now, and it’s great. But my main question is...why? Why did Eda immediately do this? Their argument didn’t seem to be much more serious than their usual banter, so why choose to do something so dangerous so quickly? I mean, she’s scolded Luz for being reckless many times in the past, and she just lets Luz take her body for a ride, magic and all? It’s kind of like the Hexus Holdem game and her addiction to it, it just kind of comes out of nowhere. 

But whatever. They part ways to enjoy what they perceive to be each other’s easy life. With Eda, she wanders into the demon equivalent of a Cat Cafe, and at first is enjoying being pampered. But then she finds out that the propeitors are kinda nuts and are literally brainwashing all the cat-demons in their care until they lose all sense of self, and now she can’t escape and has to wear a Bee costume and be cute.

King jumps headfirst into the whole mischievous teen thing, taking over a group of rowdy teens and leads them on a day of pranks, until one of them has enough and challenges him to a race, which goes wrong due to a busted track, he accidentally smashes their clubhouse, and things devolve from there.

As for Luz, she has fun using Eda’s magic to spice up the human novelties booth and grandly turns on the showwomanship, but just as Eda predicted this attracts the attention of the town guards, who arrest her and take her to prison, where she’s interrogated by none other than Lilith, who is still trying to convince her to quit a life of crime and join the Emperor’s Guild. Forcibly. Luz is having none of that, and hijinks ensues.

Naturally, the three friends then cross paths, save each other, switch their bodies back, and escape by having all of their pursuers switch their bodies instead, and they all learn a valuable lesson about not dismissing the hardships of others.

Okay, again, this was a very funny episode, but it just left me scratching my head. First, why did Eda do this? She just hit the spell almost immediately. Wouldn’t it have made more sense if they switched bodies by accident and THEN decided to have their contest? 

Also, the whole premise of the contest doesn’t make any sense, since their new lives got derailed by some very special circumstances that their bodies’ original owners wouldn’t have found themselves in (save possibly for Luz in Eda’s body). King only lost because of the road being out and him landing directly on the clubhouse by pure chance. And if Eda had gotten back to the Owl House, she really would have had a fine time lazing about instead of randomly running into the deranged cat cafe. 

Also, if Eda is so powerful that Luz can literally bust free by accident despite being in handcuffs and held in maximum security with Lilith right there, what is Eda even afraid of? And why don’t the guards have magic cancelling handcuffs? Shouldn’t that be what they want to disable?

But again, it was still a very funny episode. I just felt that the justification for the body swap was a little weak.

She is so close to her team members. THEY ARE FAMILY! And Conz is seen smiling the most when she's with Jas and Amanda.

She was ALMOST recruited to join the party in episode 10.

Amanda's favorite teacher is Croix, but she acts like she hates Croix.

Because Amanda has many people crushing on her, girls love to slip magic love potions in her drinks, and this love potion is made with cupid bee venom. It wears off after a few hours, but it makes her go crazy.

Sucy is the one who helps the girls who like Amanda by making these potions. She would even use them to prank Amanda herself. It has made Amanda fall in love with basically all the girls in the og cast at one point. Once Amanda accidentally fell in love with Sucy, Sucy stopped making the potions alltogether.

Sucy always makes her laugh. They have contests to see who has the better sense of humor and who can make more people laugh.

One of her dreams has always been to start a magic business involving brooms and flying.

She has always wanted to fly with wings, but she has yet to figure out how to use transformation magic to do it.

She loves trying new foods, and Jas encourages this by making her team new foods.

She is actually very graceful on her feet, as she is in the air.

She knows a lot of people outside of the og cast, and she's distantly related to Avery.

Despite Avery being a snobby rich girl like Hannah and Barbara can be (sometimes), she allows herself to relax and do stupid things when she's around Amanda. Only Amanda though, and if Amanda is in a group, Avery will avoid her.

Amanda gets flustered around Lotte, and Lotte thinks it's funny and cute.

Amanda LOVES ice cream sandwiches.

She once imitated Diana to fluster Akko (like Akko did in the mirror episode).

She once tried to imitate Sucy using a spell to find out why Sucy always covered one of her eyes and her legs, but the spell failed... Weirdly. Even though it works when she tries to imitate literally anyone else.

She finds Sucy super interesting, and Sucy tolerates her. Lotte thinks that Sucy secretly enjoys the attention and help with her experiments on Akko.

She ships everyone together, especially Diakko, though she crushes on Akko a little bit.

She's the one that pushes Conz to work with Croix, and it turns out they are awesome together. Amanda even saw Conz freely smiling with Croix, which is beautiful.

Once, Sucy and her used Metamorphe Vestiss to cause girls around the school to gay panic, particularly Akko, Lotte, Hannah, and Barbara.

Once, Amanda convinced Akko to use Metamorphe Vestiss, but Akko looked so good that Amanda gay panicked and ran off. The funny thing was is, she ran off to grab Diana, and they ended up both gay panicking.

Amanda and Sucy have prank wars on each other. They started in secret with little things, but it became obvious and involved bigger things.

Miraculous Rewrite- Dispair Bear

Honestly the Chloe episodes are becoming our favorites the more ML canon destroys her chances at being a better person, so like, this is fun

Cold open’s in need of some help. The little workshop with Marinette’s dad can stay as it is, it’s cute and shows some fun lessons for the class. What IS changed is Chloe’s view of it. She’s not really focused on it, looking down at her phone, with a glum expression on her face. She’s called out of her funk by Sabrina shouting her name, pointing excitedly at the workshop, gushing about how yummy macarons taste, and Chloe, for a moment, slips back into her pre-Origins expressions, making a snide remark about how dirty activities like this can be. Her outfit is far too expensive to chance dirtying it up with something like Cocoa powder.

Marinette is frowning now, given the leaps and bounds Chloe had made to be better before, this behavior feels almost, uncharacteristic of who Chloe’s trying to become. An almost sort of ripple effect goes through the classroom, everyone becoming slightly more on guard than before. Chloe doesn’t notice and walks away to lean against the window, angrily tapping something on her phone, and thumb hovering over the ‘send’ button. We can still hear Tom’s lesson going in the background, Chloe’s eye twitches, and when Sabrina sidles up to ask if she’s okay she closes her phone and snaps that she doesn’t have to pretend they’re friends. She should just go and hang out with the people she ACTUALLY likes being around. Gesturing vaguely in the direction of the class before stalking away. 

The main crew watch her go, Alya wondering out loud who put a bee up her pants (heh) And Adrien remembering after a beat, that it’s that time of year. Nino asks what he’s goin’ on about, and Adrien extrapolates, it’s Chloe’s birthday and well… she doesn’t have the BEST relationship with her family outside of her father. She was never one to make the best of a bad situation. 

Marinette notes that she does usually get really crabby around this time of year, and considers this for a moment, before a lightbulb goes off, and Alya takes note. 

“Whatever you’re thinking girl, don’t.” 

“She’s been doing better, Alya, the least we can do is show that we appreciate how much she’s trying to be a good person. If her family’s not giving her love, we could at least try to show that we’re happier with who she’s become.” 

“Why would you even WANT to?” It’s Nino that asks this time, but Adrien looks absolutely DELIGHTED.

“That’s a wonderful idea Marinette!” he runs over and grabs her hands in that pseudo-anime style this show loves to embody. You can practically see the sparkles around him as he begins listing off things he’s absorbed about Chloe over the time they’d been friends. 

Marinette.exe currently rebooting, one moment please.

Alya leans casually on Nino’s shoulder, watching the antics, before making a gesture with her hand. “My mom works at the hotel, we could probably get her help to book a hall there so we can fit the class.” 

Nino, still a little baffled by how things are going, but not one to look a gift horse in the face, pops his arm up and loudly states that he calls DJ-ing

We next cut to Chloe, who’s seemingly skipped school for the rest of the day, laying on the couch in her room, hair down for a spell and just kinda letting herself sit there and be miserable. Not overtly upset but hollow in that way that all teenagers can be after a long life of disappointment. Jean-Luc delivers her her lunch, some fancy thing none of us could ever guess the name of, with a plain yet delicious looking cinnamon roll as dessert. Ignoring the offered Lunch she picks up the cinnamon roll, stuffing as much of it into her mouth in one bite as she could. A couple of blasphemous crumbs falling onto the couch.

 Noting her glum state, Jean puts down the tray and comes back with Mr. Cuddly. He doesn’t speak, but offers her a small grin, to which Chloe returns before taking the bear from him. As Chloe lightly plays with her stuffed toy,  Jean stars to do a silly cartoonish voice about how much her precious bear-bear loves her and wants her to be happy, We see in a cartoony flashback illustration depicting Chloe choosing between two stuffed bears, one yellow with rhinestones for eyes  the other black with Button eyes. Mr. Cuddly and the black bear pretending to talk to each other with two sets of chubby hands dictating their movements, and then the shot of Audrey walking away, the black bear over her shoulder as though to wave goodbye. Chloe clutching Mr. Cuddly in tears. And finally Chloe showing Mr. Cuddly off to Adrien.

Jean-Luc, in the cutesy teddy bear voice, asks if Chloe really wants to spend her birthday all cooped up in her tower like Rapunzel. Doesn’t she want to have fun for once? The smile dies on Chloe’s face and after a moment contorts into anger. She throws a pillow at Jean-Luc and tells him to stop budding in where he doesn’t belong. Implying that activities like this were something Chloe used to do before her parents split up, talk to others through her teddy bear, so this, coupled with her birthday, is what’s starting to push her over the edge again.

The scene then shifts back to the Main crew. Marinette doing her organizational magic, muttering about how it’s too short notice to make a cake or many particularly fancy snacks from scratch, so they’re gonna need to just trick the hell out of a pre-made cake, get a bunch of store brand snacks and put them in fancy plates; hoping no one will notice. Alya on the phone with her mom arranging one of the hotel’s party halls that otherwise wasn’t going to be used that night for their party. Nino on Decoration duty, raiding party stores with all of their combined pocket money and coming out with dollar bin streamers and packets of yellow balloons and things of that nature.

And Adrien’s tasked with getting people to show up for the party. Most aren’t too sure about going to a party for Chloe, given their histories with the girl, but Sabrina, despite the harsh words earlier, signs herself up for attending, knowing that Chloe’s been improving and wants to support her friend. She’s all too aware of how Chloe can be around her birthday after all. She begins to work with Adrien to eventually get their class to attend, with mixed thoughts on the matter. 

We get a short montage of Adrien and Sabrina going to everyone in class, likely to the rhythm of some sort of faux alt-rock song centered around birthdays as they convince the rest of the class to join, and then branch out into other classes, showing Aurore, Mirielle, Ali, and a few other kids that we haven’t met, impressed by the number of kids already going. 

We then clip to the Main crew setting everything up, Marinette placing cheap foods in fancy dishes to look better than expected, Alya on a ladder easily putting up streamers, Adrien struggling to blow up all the balloons himself since Nino is currently rigging up the sound stuff. And there’s a small hand made banner resting above the DJ table, with ‘Happy 15th Chloe!’ written in colorful markers.

“Okay, I think we’re all good. Adrien?” Adrien, whose face is flushed from exertion, bounces the balloon he’d finished blowing up away from himself and pulls out his phone. Texting Chloe that he wants to do something special for her birthday, just two old friends, and that he’d meet her in the lobby. Before getting up and walking out. 

We clip back to Chloe, reading a different text about how her father has to stay late doing mayoral stuff, but he’ll make it up and get her the mother of all birthday gifts first thing tomorrow. Chloe Rolls her eyes, clearly expecting this response. But she raises a brow when she gets the text from Adrien. Sitting up straight and humming as she considers out loud what possessed him to do so. Jean Luc comes back, this time with her dinner in hand. Leaning over to see her text he mentions that Mister Adrien must be wanting to turn this into a nice day himself. Wouldn’t it be nice to be happy on her birthday for once?

Chloe humms, brows furrowed, she looks down at Mr. Cuddly in her lap, Deftly making the little guy rub his ear with his paw and tilting its head to the side. Jean-Luc uses his goofy voice again to say it’s a good idea, that Chloe deserves to be happy on her own birthday. 

This time Chloe smiles and gives the bear one last squeeze before handing it to Jean Luc, standing and pulling her hair back into it’s usual style. “For Adrien.” She says blithely, striding toward the elevator. After a beat, Jean Luc follows her, Mr. Cuddly still loosely grasped in his hand, as though for moral support. 

When Chloe arrives in the Lobby, of course, Adrien is waiting for her. She smiles and links her arm in his. Adrien laughs and starts to lead her deeper into the hotel. Something that kinda weirds Chloe out. She asks why they’re still here, and Adrien Responds that he was maybe… just a LITTLE dishonest. They [we] just want her to have a good time.

“We?”

“You know, your friends.” He opens the door to the party hall and it was a SURPRISE

Chloe pales for a moment, looking honestly terrified and maybe just one movement away from telling everyone to get off her property and running the other direction. But Jean-Luc comes up behind her and subtly, just so no one could see him, brushes her teddy bear’s paw against the back of her hand. Chloe’s eyes dart away, before she walks in. Not particularly happy, but willing to try.

We follow Chloe through a small montage of events where she tries out some cheap snacks, looks vaguely disgusted, but says nothing as she takes a swig of the drink she has in hand, looking around at the cheap decorations, before awkwardly thanking someone who came up to her and asked if she was enjoying herself.

Chloe ends up trailing behind Sabrina and Adrien for a spell, looking into a corner, into some staff entrance unseen by the kids, and Jean-Luc waves Mr. Cuddly’s paw at her. She smiles and waves back. It finally comes time to cut the cake. Chloe wrinkles her nose at the obviously store bought creation, but still blows out the candle. Adrien asks if she wants a slice, she glances up and sees Marinette and Alya messing with their own slices, almost starting a cake war. A look of longing passes over her face, before once again hardening into anger.

“Of course not! This cheap dime store cake shouldn’t even TOUCH my lip gloss! In fact, this whole Party was a cheap bad idea!” the music stops abruptly, Chloe realizes after a beat that everyone’s staring at her. We get, maybe the shortest closeup of Chloe tearing up a little as she turns on her heel and marches away. “Everyone out! Party’s over! Don’t make me call security on all of your butts!” The second she’s away from prying eyes she hides in a staff entrance of her own, quickly, almost desperately flipping through her phone until she comes upon something that makes her pause. In a fit of pique she throws her phone away. 

Jean-Luc is the only person that comes to find her, crouching down to her level he offers her Mr. Cuddly again, once again not speaking, but showing solidarity, at this point you kind of get the feeling he was her main babysitter as she grew up. Chloe looks at the offered bear, takes it for only a brief moment, before throwing it at Jean-Luc’s face. “I don’t want my mother’s trash.” she claims, voice far more wet and wobbly. “Just leave me alone.”

Jean-Luc takes the bear from where it was perched on his head and looks down at the little creature, before standing and doing as asked, walking out of sight.

We cut to outside the hotel, Marinette looking defeated while Adrien tries to tell her that she did the best she could, and he was happy to see they at least tried. He in fact offers an apology; in his delight to cheer up a friend, he wasn’t thinking about how something this big might be too much for Chloe, given her usual feelings for the day. 

Alya pipes up from her spot slightly behind them, saying that whether they’d started small or not she fell into her old ways pretty easily. Showing Alya’s skepticism remains true, only to be offset by Nino’s optimism, claiming that no matter how short the party was, those that were invited had fun.

In a strange turn of events, Sabrina was also in the ‘forced out’ crew, trying to convince the doorman to let, at least her, back in, Chloe clearly needs someone to help her right now.  The doorman’s holding firm, stating that messing with Miss Bourgeois while she’s in a mood like this would lead to all of them getting fired. Before his eyes light a strange color, and he says, in a more robotic tone, that Chloe needs all the help she can get, before holding the door open, stating everyone who wants to come back in, can. Sabrina rushes in, followed by a slower, almost sheepish Adrien. No one else makes a move. Marinette claiming that She’d probably make Chloe feel worse, and Alya claiming the same. Eventually, after a jolt, Kim walks in kinda being coerced by Alix and Max since someone more neutral on the subject should be witness to whatever’s happening, but just as Kim’s about to walk in, the glow from the Doorman’s eyes fades, and lights up on Mylene, steering her inside as well. Having an up close look as she moves Alya is first to spot the black and green teddy bear clinging to Mylene’s shin.

Alya grabs Marinette’s attention about it, and goes inside herself, claiming they should have a record in case something goes wrong. Marinette ducks away from the whole event, now aware there’s an Akuma afoot. Ducking into a corner away from the others, Marinette transforms. 

We then follow Adrien and the others, Mylene looking confused and kinda terrified as the lot of them are lead by a strange eyed maid to Chloe’s hiding place. Adrien’s already under his own suspicions, and quietly tells everyone to get ready. Who knows what kinda Akuma Chloe turned into this time.

Chloe however is not an Akuma and is in fact just as baffled to see them there as they all are to be there. Getting to her feet she asks what the hell everyone’s doing, she told them all to get lost. To which the maid responds, eerily and tonelessly, that, again, Chloe needs all the help she can get. Before, of course, Ladybug busts down the door. Since Despair Bear can only possess one person at a time, he goes through the gambit, only possessing a couple of classmates this time, going mostly for the hotel staff that are almost always unseen. Adrien uses the chaos to escape and transform himself, but from there the action sets continue as they do in canon. With various staff and students fighting Ladybug and trying to get at Chloe, only for Despair Bear to drop control of them last second, eventually coming to possess Chat Noir. Chloe coming to save Ladybug from getting Cataclysm’d and eventually helping with the Lucky charm.

However as Miraculous Ladybug sweeps the land, and Jean Luc is returned to normal. He grabs his head and mutters about a headache. Chat Noir and Ladybug have to leave after a quick ‘Bien Joire’ 

 Chloe runs over to pick up her bear, apologizing briefly to the creature, that she didn’t mean it, she was just mad. Before she looked up at Jean Luc and held the teddy bear in front of her face, manipulating the creature to do a small curtsy. 

And in her own cutesy voice she speaks for Mr. Cuddles. “Thank you Jean for trying to help my Chloe. But just because you work for her doesn’t mean you have to fix her. That’s my job!” Chloe lowers the bear and smiles slightly. Jean Luc asks her if she wants to go back to her room, and Chloe shrugs, saying she might as well try that cheap cake, it was for her after all. And then pauses, looking at her phone and typing something out. She says blithely she’ll say thank you to the class tomorrow.

After a pause, and one more look of hesitation, Chloe sends the text. This is when we finally get to see the text that’s been haunting her all episode. A chat screen shows on her phone, the contact at the top showing an ‘A’ but unable to see the rest of the name, and previous messages between this “A” and Chloe are seen above, for things like New Years, Christmas, past birthdays and more, very few more than a sparse text. The most recent being, of course, A’s wish of a happy birthday. Chloe’s answering text is wishing A one as well, and an additional “I hope you guys stay longer than last time” A heart is shown as well, showing further improvements, and her wish to do better.

The screen shifts to show a different bedroom in the watery glow of early morning, different hands clutching a phone, a tear hitting the screen, before a voice shouts, calling her ‘Girl’ and saying that she’d better not be lounging in bed.

Well, here we are again! Twitter said yes to a review post for a Miraculous magazine that suddenly showed up in my local area. ‘Tis the season after all, and by that I mean someone bought it for me as a joke birthday gift and I was way too happy about that.

I’ve done previous reviews of the Miraculous Christmas calendar, Easter egg set, superhero fashion dolls and action figures, so let’s dive into the unknown world of merchandising yet again!

4 FREE GIFTS! PACKED WITH ACTIVITIES! MEET THE KWAMIS! PRANKS & LOLS! CUT-OUT MEMES! FANGIRL ALERT! NAIL ART! 100% OFFICIAL! I’m overwhelmed! It feels like I’m having a seizure just from the packaging!!! 

I should preface this by saying I haven’t bought a magazine like this in years. Possibly ever. I read things like the Beano, Animals & You and the odd Disney Princess zine when I was a kid but I have no idea what to expect from a free-gift-packed kiddie magazine in 2019. If the outside is anything to go by we’re in for a wild ride.

I’m noticing that it says “Miraculous #20″ on the back. Does this mean I’ve missed 19 previous issues? I’m genuinely a little upset by that. My local area is a complete dry zone for Miraculous so I haven’t had the chance to pick these up.

First step: let’s separate everything out and get a look at these freeeee giftssss. Except they aren’t free, because this magazine was like £3.99. This does seem to be the current trend - it’s kinda rare to see any kids’ zines without the excess packaging crammed with ‘free’ stuff. Is it really too expensive to just produce the magazine? Probably, in this economy.

Chat Noir is revealed on the cover! He was on the back of the plastic jacket, but it’s still nice to see the kids as a front-cover duo. Apparently we’re going to learn to draw Pollen, too, which sounds fun. I’m actually liking the look of the gifts as well, but we’ll get into those in a minute.

This hairbrush............. is adorable. Oh my god. It’s pretty cheap and flimsy but it functions the way it’s supposed to, and the Ladybug design has been taken into account in a better way than “it’s red/black, that counts” (lest we forget the UTTER BULLSHIT of the Christmas calendar, and YES I’m still mad about that). I don’t know how well I expect the outer sticker to last, but if it can take a bit of wear and tear this would be an adorable little travel brush. Nicely done, lads!

These nail stickers? Also adorable. They remind me of the kiddie makeup sets I had when I was little, back in the early 00s when plastic stick-on nails and decals were all the rage. Are they still a thing? That’s nice to know.

There are 13 designs (that I can count) - a Queen Bee mask, Chat Noir pawprint cake, macaron, cupcake, heart-print cookie, Ladybug stud, flower, lightning bolt, love heart, Marinette heart, bee, fox tail and star. The majority are directly related to the show and that makes them feel special. No Carapace though? :(

I’ve put a little Marinette heart on my furthest finger. At the time of typing this up (about a day later) it’s still firmly in place. I haven’t really knocked it around, granted, but it’s not flimsy enough to fall off after five minutes either. It’s also really cute to look at. Guess I’m still a decal-loving 2004 girl at heart......

These stickers though!!! Wow! They’re those holographic and slightly-puffy kind and they feel like pretty good quality, and the designs are so cute! I can’t fault these, they’re absolutely adorable. I immediately want to stick them everywhere.

So I’ve stuck them everywhere. I’m especially proud of the light switch pun. My room looks GREAT.

I saved these “mystery stickers” for last because I’m weak for the thrill of mystery bags, and there wasn’t anything on the packaging to indicate what kind of designs to expect. And OH!!!! OH, IT’S MY BOY!!!! Look at him!!!! 

I made jokes with the Christmas calendar about all the Chat Noir items being stolen ahead of time, but that’s definitely NOT the case with this magazine. I have been SPOILED with the presence of my cat son.

These stickers are similar to the sticker sheet (and the Chillin’ Out design is reprinted), but they’re puffier and non-holographic. I’m deeply allured by the “decorate your phone or tablet” suggestion on the packet, but I’m going to see how the previous stickers withstand the wear-and-tear of my laptop lid before adding any more. If I damage these beautiful Adrien stickers I’ll be devastated.

Those are our free gifts! They’re actually very fun and cute, I’m really happy with them! I guess now it’s time to get into the magazine itself...........

I genuinely almost forgot the magazine was the main part of this package. I figured I was done, but we’ve barely even started! Here’s a splash page of the kwami. Kwami with a capital K? Kwamis? I still feel like it should be singular-lower-case-k-kwami. I’ve never been happy about this “miraculouses” business either.

But is that--

It IS!!!! It’s Nino!!! 

I guess this is the new flavour of Miraculous tie-ins. Now they’ve broadened out to a full team we’re seeing a lot more of Adrien alongside the girls, and Nino is the elusive hero who shows up once in a blue moon. At least this time his name isn’t in the title of the gotdam show.......

Anyway, I can see I’m supposed to draw my “fave Kwami”. Better get to it.

Felix just wants a break. Just one break. But not in this magazine.

Speaking of seeing more of Adrien (and, tragically, less of Nino), this is the kind of splash page I want to see! Both kids are here! The banner themed with Marinette’s signature flowers is a nice touch too; that’s associated with her arts ‘n’ crafts in the show already and it makes sense to apply it to the creative portion of this magazine too.

I LOVE the promotion of Chat Noir nails as something the little girls buying this magazine will definitely want to try. I’d expect them to do Marinette vs Ladybug nails, but instead we get a boyish option! Hell yeah!

I’m a little confused by the Queen Bee masks apparently going on the Chat Noir nails though. I guess they’re friends? Is this secret AdriChlo confirmation? Watch out, Marinette, Kagami’s not the one to be worried about.

SURE WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE SOME TURTLE STICKERS FOR AN ALL-BOYS THEME BUT I GUESS NOT HUH

Next up is a short merch catalogue (why would you put the big bold arrow pointing right to the underoos.....). Would those Chat Noir socks come in my size? Asking for me.

Then there’s......... this page. FANGIRL ALERT. God. It’s like the Ladyblog, if only the Ladyblog ever gave a heck about reporting what Chat Noir’s up to.

THE SPELL WAS BROKEN AND THE FANDOM IMPLODED WITH JOY.

I really have to wonder what age range this is meant for. Do kids know what a “fandom” is? Do little girls consider themselves “fangirls”? I guess most kids have enough internet access to figure it out these days (all the hashtags and LOLs and memes speak volumes), but I can’t imagine being young enough to fit the target range of this magazine while also knowing these terms. I dunno.

(Also, the definition of ‘implosion’ is ‘an instance of something collapsing violently inwards’, so I’m not sure that’s the word they’re looking for. Unless the return to the status quo in Dark Cupid and the continuing stagnation of the love square was enough to make people quit in frustration? Probably.)

I’m filling it in, of course. Because I must.

I gave up on the pre-approved ratings system pretty much right away, but I think this is an accurate rating of my LadyNoir opinions. 

I might be kinda cynical about it here, but I am actually pretty fond of how this magazine sells Ladybug and Chat Noir as a couple. The show’s portraying it as very onesided lately, with Chat pining over Ladybug who has absolutely no interest in him (Glaciator was a TERRIBLE episode and I’m still hurting from it), but reading this zine I’d guess they were already dating. It’s cheesy, but in a nice way.

I have to laugh at “the most amazing thing about this super duo is that they always look out for and protect each other” though. Chat’s usually pretty focused on LB, sure, but there are endless instances of LB using Chat as cannon fodder and just generally abandoning him to get mauled by akuma while she carries out her personal private plan to save the day. Maybe we’re just focusing on the better-written episodes, huh?

Moving ahead. I’ve been dreading this page since reading “Plaggs Pranks & LOLs” on the back of the packaging. I feel hatred in my very bones just looking at it.

I like that there’s ONE instance of the term “ladybird” in the joke column. This is a UK-based magazine and that IS the word we tend to use over here - “ladybug” is an Americanism - but it’s like they’re worried kids could have got to the middle of this magazine about a superhero named Ladybug and then not understand the bug jokes. Maybe whoever was writing this page slipped up?

OH NOOOOO. MARINETTE, NOOOOOOOOOO.

THIS IS WHY FELIX GOT RID OF YOU, PLAGG. THESE ARE ADRIEN’S PROBLEMS NOW.

I mean........... YEAH, I guess, but we absolutely did see Plagg destroy Felix with an entire shelf of heavy books. I guess he’s nicer with Adrien. It’s all fun and games until someone has a nervous breakdown in the library.

I do love the concept of Tikki getting glitter-bombed by Plagg through the mail. She just curiously opens up the little letter which got slipped into Marinette’s purse, and-- WOOSH. One entire wall of Mari’s room is glittery except for a little Tikki-shaped silhouette. 

Next up is a two-page comic which is absolutely adorable! Look at those little chibis! The warm and soft colour palette! This is nicer than most of the official Miraculous comic book art I’ve seen, I hope they keep giving this artist work.

Nino’s here too (and he looks great!), and I like the touch of Marinette and Adrien playing as each other’s superhero characters. Adrien even wins the match, though I guess there’s something to be said about Ladybug beating Chat Noir (again)...... 

It does raise the question yet again of where this tie-in merchandise is coming from! They’ve had action figures, a movie, music video features, now an arcade game... Who’s getting the royalties here? Who’s profiting? Is this how Fu can afford to buy all those rare ingredients for the magic potions?

Over the page we have an activity to Design your Secret Lair! Right away I love the Marinette theme of the page, the soft pink and flowers, and the drawing space looking like a page in a binder with marker tabs and everything.

I have to design my secret lair, of course: 

What do you think? I’m very creative. I’ll need an adult to send in the drawing of my hideout but I think I’ve really got a shot at those unicorn headphones.

Now we’re on to puzzles and character pages. I don’t know what ol’ Gabe is doing trying to meet a 13 year old girl in the dead of night without telling anyone, you’d think if he’s got that much free time on his hands he could be spending it with his son.

I don’t know how those points in Ladybug’s power profile are awarded or what they mean, but you can tell this is a fan magazine. Official sources would have put her at a 10.

Standard House of Villains page! Most of these were good episodes but I’m deeply offended Riposte isn’t on here. Maybe her motives weren’t dramatic and cartoonish enough to be up in the ranks with Glaciator and Gorizilla?

“Cat Noir’s dad is also the evil Hawk Moth”, huh? I mean that’s not WRONG, but is it really something to put in his power profile when Adrien doesn’t even know yet??? Feels like we’re kinda jumping the gun on the poor boy. What if he picks up this magazine?

Apparently he’s one point weaker than Ladybug (seriously???), two points faster, equally as agile, one point less skilled and two points less cool. Despite all those lesses he still comes out at an equal 9, which is a relief! These kids are a team, putting either of them below the other would have been a big no.

I did the colouring page too, naturally. Je suis un artiste.

Now we’ve got a page fresh from the Ladyblog, a Miraculous quiz! Not a lot of excitement, but it’s nice to see Alya getting her own section.

I like that the qualifications of “you could be Ladybug herself!” are knowing what city Marinette lives in and what school she goes to. Well done, Mari! You’re doing your best!!!

TEACHER I AM SO HUNGRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I gotta say, I’m not so sure about decorating donuts with fondant. I’ve never tried it so I could be wrong, but it feels like rolled icing instead of frosting(?) would be too heavy for an entire donut. The texture is totally different.

I mean I guess if you’re going to load your kids up on sugar you might as well go all the way. They’re going to look like they’ve eaten something horrible with all that black fondant, but they’ll have fun. Adrien would love these.

WHERE’S NINO. THIS IS JUST UNFAIR. You’ll have four out of five heroes, then a double of Marinette and Tikki? Maybe this just goes to show how little memorable dialogue Carapace has.

Though if “Spots On!” is Marinette’s dialogue and not Ladybug’s, why are the other transformation phrases attributed to Rena Rouge and Queen Bee instead of Alya and Chloé? Surely they could have picked something better for Marinette to justify having her on this list twice instead of Nino.

The next page brings us one of those flowchart quizzes! And ouch, yet again the absence of the other heroes is obvious. I can understand not including Chloé here since she’s technically not a “friendly” character yet, but no Nino? Alya and Marinette are close friends, but Adrien doesn’t really hang out with them without Nino around. Having the three of them together just seems strange.

I do like the little fashion page! They’re all cute and affordable and easy to find on the high street here. I’d love to see how other issues of this magazine are structured; is there a different fashion spot every time? Styles to channel each individual hero would be adorable.

Moving on to a tutorial for a Ladybug notebook! I would have made this, but I didn’t have the time nor a notebook to stick it to.

Between this and the donuts, it seems weird that these designs are based on, like... an actual beetle, eyes and antennae and all. Shouldn’t it be Ladybug’s symbol? These come across more like “fun animals” arts ‘n’ crafts instead of themed after Miraculous specifically. I think if I made this (or decorated the donuts) I’d miss out the head and match the spot pattern to Ladybug’s symbol. 

The hidden message design is adorable though. I can see this being a craft kids are super proud of.

Another activity page! I didn’t have a go at these but they’re pretty standard. It’s cute that the coded message designs are the same as the stickers and nail decals!

Also, apparently Ladybug’s ‘secret’ is “LB mask + heart + CN mask”, which was (somehow) stolen by Volpina. Is that the secret Hawk Moth was talking about earlier in the magazine? Is he blackmailing Ladybug with revealing she has a crush on Chat Noir? How did Volpina ‘steal’ this secret? Is LadyNoir finally reciprocated???? THIS IS A WHOLE EPISODE IN ITSELF, I NEED ANSWERS--

Next page we have an ad for another girly magazine (Quizzes! LOLs! Celebs! Cringes! Puzzles!). I think I’ll pass, no matter how appealing that giant microphone pen is. 

And a “Miraculous Identity” quiz! Tikki’s apparently super fickle with her wielders, three seasons of relentlessly praising Marinette and now she’s telling us we’re the Chosen Ones. You can’t fool me with those big ol’ eyes.

My inner superhero is Marvellous Fox, by the way. Though yet again I’m noticing we don’t have turtle options...................

And on the back cover... the memes. Oh, sweet lord, the memes. They’re hashtag-SoRelatable! And I can cut them out to keep! Oh boy!!!

Is this what kids do when they have limited internet access? Cut fresh memes out of magazines and carry them around? I need to know.

That’s a very sinister Ladybug at the bottom of the page though. What’s-- What’s she going to do to me if I don’t cut out and keep these memes. Ladybug what are you going to do if I d--

Well that brings us to the end of the magazine! And yet again I’m surprised by how much time it takes to just put a bunch of photos together and write about them.

This is a neat little magazine all in all! The ‘free gifts’ are pretty nice, there’s a fair amount of content and the whole thing is pretty cute for young fans of the show. I could see myself buying this again - if it ever shows up on shelves, Miraculous is so scarce around here that I fully expect it to disappear again after this one issue - just for the free junk, but it would be interesting to see how they’d structure different issues too!

I notice we never did get that promised tutorial on how to draw Pollen; the one advertised on the cover. Was the “draw your favourite Kwami” activity supposed to cover that? I’m not sure that really counts.

Chapter 3: Schooltown Follies

Since there have been stories, there have been stories that anthropomorphize animals. Folks have imagined creatures behaving as humans in every corner of the world, in myths and fables and fairy tales from ancient cultures to today. So by the turn of the 20th century, when a mycologist known for painting incredibly detailed images of fungus decided to instead write and illustrate stories about animals in contemporary clothes, it wasn’t exactly a new idea. But perhaps that makes it more impressive: despite the multitude of animal books for children that have been published in the last hundred and fifty years, the work of Beatrix Potter still stands out.

She’s not alone, of course: no good conversation about humanized animals in Western kid lit can last long without mentioning Richard Scarry or Margaret Wise Brown or Arnold Lobel. And Peter Rabbit’s extended family is quite British, which puts it at odds with the nostalgic Americana of Over the Garden Wall: it’s not for nothing that our assortment of animals in Schooltown Follies includes a raccoon and an opossum. But the timeless quality of Potter’s work is still felt in this episode in two ways. First, while the show has a cartoony lens, the school animals are far more anatomically accurate than Beatrice or the frogs of Lullaby in Frogland, evoking Potter’s signature field guide style. And second, there’s a mischief to Potter’s animals that makes them feel more like real children than the cute but bland residents of Scarry’s Busytown, and mischief is the name of the game when Greg comes to schooltown.

Schooltown Follies is full of clever tricks, but perhaps its most clever is introducing animals with human qualities (they wear clothes, play instruments, and walk on their hind legs) but not giving them voices. It’s generally great comedy fuel, showing the inherent ridiculousness of a school for sorta normal animals, but it more importantly allows the episode a silent movie feel, with plenty of physical humor enhanced by characters without dialogue. That style completes the episode’s subversion of Beatrix Potter’s oeuvre: she wrote stories about naughty animals learning that they should behave, but in this vaudeville version, the only way to save the day is by misbehaving.

“Then I’ll do what I need to do, I guess.”

Despite being one of our three main characters, Greg trades a full character arc for a comic relief role. At the beginning of Over the Garden Wall he’s a chatty kid who never gives up and loves fun, and at the end he’s a chatty kid who never gives up and loves fun. This doesn’t mean he’s fully static, as he matures enough to accept some responsibility to others instead of seeking entertainment for himself: he abandons a potential happy ending to try to save Wirt with the Beast, and returns his stolen Rock Facts Rock in the last shot of the series. But even this obligation to help out is present early on: Schooltown Follies is the first of his two focus episodes, and the foundation of his eventual heroism is established right here.

And frankly? I think it’s okay if he’s not that dynamic. Greg doesn’t change as much as Wirt or Beatrice because he doesn’t have nearly as much to overcome, and he still contributes to the show without forcing the crew to juggle three distinct arcs. Our older kids are on a shorter timer to grow up, and have clearer negative traits (Wirt’s got no confidence, Beatrice is a jerk), and while we can accuse Greg of lacking social cues, he’s so young that it’s not indicative of a larger problem. He’s just acting his age, albeit in a heightened way for entertainment, and to lose that innocence this early in his life would make this show a serious downer.

“Heightened” is the general mood of Schooltown Follies, where Greg’s less realistic behavior fits much better than The Old Grist Mill’s bottom-of-the-barrel aside. This is an episode where Two Old Cat, an old-timey bat-and-ball game that evokes a similar old-school era as our old school, involves searching for actual old cats, somehow finding them immediately, then realizing one is too old to play and must instead be taken care of by a raccoon in a newsboy cap and overalls.

While there’s plenty of humor to go around in Over the Garden Wall, this is the only fully silly episode. Our other lighthearted outings come with dark twists: Songs of the Dark Lantern introduces the Beast, Lullaby in Frogland reveals Adelaide, and Babes in the Wood turns out to be the most somber episode of the series with context. Here we almost get a parody of such a twist, with characters repeatedly mentioning a wild gorilla on the loose apropos of nothing, then revealing that the gorilla is Miss Langtree’s paramour trapped in a suit. It’s a ridiculous setup to a ridiculous punchline, aided by casting Thomas Lennon for a few lines of dialogue (his read for “I. Was. The gorilla” was worth every penny), so there’s never any sense of danger. Jimmy Brown and Enoch are equally harmless in the end, but I doubt any little kids watching are gonna get nightmares about the ape suit.

This mood is enhanced with song, but among the many musical moments in the series—Mad Love is the only episode without singing in some form—Schooltown Follies stands out by not letting any of the numbers finish. We begin and end the episode in song, but Greg doesn’t have the last lines for Adelaide Parade figured out, Langtree’s Lament faces numerous interruptions before being cut short by the bell (they actually did a full version though!), and Potatoes and Molasses gets stopped first by Mr. Langtree, then by the end credits. Even Miss Langtree’s piano rendition of last episode’s Patient is the Night halts when Greg mashes the keys. It’s the perfect atmosphere for an episode about a kid who loves fun, but is easily distracted and hasn’t developed good planning skills.

Which isn’t to say that Greg is dumb, but that he’s prone to winging it in a way that sets him apart from Wirt. While Wirt rambles his thoughts aloud, Greg takes action without telling anyone why, making his decisions appear random in a medium that often explains motives concretely to young viewers. Wandering in his own direction has become a running gag by now, and while he sets off to make the world a better place, he instead plays outside with animal truants. He’s jolted back to his quest by the bland food and dull atmosphere of lunch hour, and his irrepressible energy lightens everybody’s day without much effort. When Mr. Langtree steps in as an antagonist, Greg decides once again to do something about it, this time saying explicitly that he has no plan, but everything works out again. We get an excellent joke from his decision to rob Langtree right after he becomes sympathetic, but as usual, Greg has bigger ideas behind the humor that he just hasn’t articulated. 

While Greg is busy delightfully saving the day, Wirt and Beatrice ease into a sniping side story that establishes their relationship for the next few episodes. They got off on the wrong foot in The Old Grist Mill and twisted that ankle in Hard Times at the Huskin’ Bee, so by now Beatrice doesn’t even try to hide her disdain and Wirt gets fed up with it. This is the perfect type of subplot, one that develops our characters and fits into the theme of the episode—Wirt’s rebellious obedience bounces off Greg’s rebellious call to disobey—but doesn’t distract from the main story.

Beatrice is helpful in opening up Wirt’s snotty side in a way that allows us to cheer for him. Until now his biggest conversation partner has been Greg, and it’s tough to side with Wirt when he’s mean to Greg, but Beatrice is an equal in terms of sparring, and her rudeness is a more understandable motive for Wirt to be obstinate than Greg’s playfulness. Our last episode had him aimlessly suggest staying in Pottsfield, and he’s similarly bound to this new location, but his different attitude changes the entire story. After two episodes of dithering, it’s nice that they let Elijah Wood play a character who’s funny on purpose for a spell, reveling in annoying Beatrice.

And even though he doesn’t know what to do, we actually get our first heroic moment from Wirt here. Greg saved the day in Grist Mill, and the situation resolves without much issue in Hard Times, but Jimmy is saved from the gorilla costume because of Wirt. True, he only interferes after being commanded to by Mr. Langtree, and he clearly has no idea what to do, and he trips over his shoelaces rather than contribute in an intentional way, but it sets the stage for his rescue of Beatrice in our next episode. Deep down, when he’s not overthinking it, the kid is capable of bravery when it’s asked of him. And it’s wonderful that for all his differences from Greg, both share an impulsive approach to heroism when they decide to help others. It’s almost like they’re related.

Beyond getting a few good digs in at Wirt, Beatrice extends her meanness to Miss Langtree, which makes her pestering of the boys feel less personal: it’s not that she hates them, she’s irritable with everyone. But we also get the first hint of her warming to our heroes, letting Greg have his fun at the concert and telling Wirt to finally tie his shoes with just a tiny speckle of fondness. While she gets a bigger friendship moment in Mad Love, when she’s essentially forced to get to know Wirt better, it’s neat to see Beatrice gradually come around instead of flipping a switch after a major story event.

We’re about to get our next big Plot Episode, introducing the Beast and adding new doubts about the Woodsman, so a silly episode is just what we need. It’s our third in a row where something sinister turns out to be okay: obviously the gorilla is an example of this, but Mr. Langtree is similarly an intimidating presence who ends up being a regular man. Even the creepy squirrels from the opening shots of the Unknown’s dangers in The Old Grist Mill return as comic relief. We’re fully primed to look for goodness where we see wickedness. Just in time for us to learn to fear merry opera echoing from the woods.

Greg’s spiel on hot dogs might not summon the Rock Fact Rock, but it certainly evokes the stone’s spirit.

Where have we come, and where shall we end?

Adelaide Parade and Potatoes and Molasses will both get dark reprises, and the former also gets the rare jolly reprise as well. But we unfortunately don’t get a harrowing future scene featuring Langtree’s Lament.

Two Old Cat is part of a list of bat-and-ball games mentioned by a rambling background teen in The Unknown.

1. Who was your overall favourite member of Team Danger and why?

oh this is a difficult question i love all of them, but i would have to go with Charlotte i just love the way she cares about her friends even when i feel as they don’t always listen to her as they should. i love how smart she is at getting henry and ray out of trouble as i see her as the most level headed and comes up with the best solutions.

2.  Who was your favourite non-team danger character and why?

i would have to go with newscaster mary gaperman as i felt that being in a profession where it’s mostly a male dominated i felt that she was overshadowed by her co-host i hated the way that he would interrupt her whenever she tried speaking always rubbed me the wrong way.

3.  who was your favourite villian and why?

i’d have to go with Frankini i just loved his overall impeccable fashion sense, to me he was one of the fun villains who made me laugh a lot.

4.  What were your top five favourite Henry Danger episodes of all time and why?

1. toon in for danger: i was laughing throughout the whole episode especially during the studio's cartoon that was given to captain man and kid danger by accident. it was just filled with ridiculous shenanigans that made it hard to breathe as i was laughing so hard.

2. i dream of danger i mean chenry centric can’t get better than that, i felt for Charlotte throughout the whole episode especially when she kept not being able to speak full sentences when Henry was around with using the word kiss, i loved the running gag of the elevator not coming up on time and Charlotte turning around and seeing the kid danger cardboard cutout either punching or throwing it out of reflex. jasper turning invisible and annoying ray. schwoz injecting himself with tiger medicine dressing up as Elton john as a peacock. 

3. captain man-kini  i loved the whole ray swapping bodies with frankini was hilarious especially when ray had to walk and talk like him and forgetting at one point that he was not in his own body. what i loved most about this episode was that since ray was captured albeit as frankini but it gave henry a chance to save the day himself with the help of frankini and schwoz. it also gave us more independent Henry that we don’t usually get.

4. spelling bee hard   Charlotte centic which is a plus my favourite part was when Charlotte was trying to spell a word dr minyak tried distracting her trying to get her to spell the word word but like the badass she is without even looking i might add she hit him in the face with the mike made me laugh hysterically. the bet between captain man and dr minyak was silly but hysterical having to bike on really small bikes to California and back. i loved that knowing how important the spelling bee was to charlotte ray ended up letting her win which was actually, really sweet of him.

5. grand theft otto    jasper’s marvellous mustache i love how he was so protective of it, this episode gave me chensper vibes with jasper telling henry and charlotte to stop kissing with them say at the same time were not kissing and he replies with in a way your both kissing me since charotte had jasper’s retainer stuck in her mouth. my other favourite moment was when the parrot kept on repeated henry is kid danger.

5 What were your top five least favourite Henry Danger episodes of all time and why?

1. man of the house  i didn’t like rays crush on henry’s mom was more prominent in this episode which rubbed me the wrong way as it always has and felt it had gotten worse in the later episodes especially considering she is a married woman and you really should not flirt with someone who is married.

2.  sick and wired i didn’t like that ray didn’t trust Henry when he was sick as i felt that he was not being very sympathetic and having schwoz put spy camera’s in henry’s house was an invasion of privacy and had jasper go undercover with a wire to try catch Henry in a lie when he didn’t even lie in the first place.

3. henry and the woodpeckers it wasn’t a bad episode i just didn’t find it as interesting as the others.

4. meet cute crush  i didn’t like the basis of this episode with piper having a crush on the new boy in her class i just rubbed me the wrong way, how she basically created a ruse just to get close to him and i all did not like how she got her own brother hurt when he was thrown through a wooden table in the cafe from an adult not even thinking about the consequences and wanting to try again when henry didn’t even want to do it in the first place.

5.  the bucket trap it wasn’t a bad episode i just hated that they had jasper tazer himself it did not look very safe and why would piper even have one it’s not exactly suitable for a child to have.

6.  What was your favourite running gag and why?

whenever scwoz introduced himself with i am schwoz and captain man’s i’m okay. whenver the man cave elevator decends it sends people falling to the floor when you get to the man cave.

7.  What was your favourite one-off throw away gag and why?

not a running gag but henry liking flower camp gave us a look into things he does when not doing hero work it’s nice to have a hobby.

8.  What episode, which character and which duo made you laugh the most?

whenever Charlotte, schwoz and jasper were paired together or Charlotte and jasper in flabber gassed when they worked together to help ray and Henry when they were sprayed with flabber gas and having to control them through the suits. as members of the team without powers they are still part of team that i wish was explored more.

9.  What episode, which character and which duo made you the most emotional?

the finale episode got me the most emotional that Charlotte, Henry and jasper could not live without the other, i was in tears when they had to leave the man cave especially with Charlotte being adamant on not leaving Henry. and jasper having to pick her up and carry her out not knowing if they would see each other again. i liked how the show ended with them leaving and ending up in a different town being a crime fighting trio was all i ever wanted.

10.  How would you rank each season from 1 to 5, one being the best and five being the worst?

to be honest i like every season to a degree while there may have been some episodes that was not my favourite but i liked the seasons overall.

11.  Who was your favourite duo in the show (romantic or non-romantic)?

Charlotte and schowz team science because they understand each other on a level that others may not be able to as they came up with the solutions to solving the problems that the team  face.

in the early seasons before ray’s characterisation went downhill i’d say license to fly with ray acting like a nervous parent when teaching henry how to fly shwoz’s helicopter.

i dream of danger a no brainer the most peak chenry content that we had ever gotten the mutual pining in this episode was top notch. their interaction in the lions den.

love muffin episode with henry flirting with jasper was hysterical complementing his hair being very clingy.

have the adults actually be there for their children, have them actually be proud of their children. i hated that when jasper’s nose was broken his parents could not be bothered to see him.  basically anything the parents did i would do differently.

look out for each other, keep each other safe and make sure to always include each other .

keep in touch no matter where you are you will always be in each other’s hearts.

yes it ended in a satisfying way , my favourite part was Charlotte , jasper and Henry being together, seeing how much they cared for each other and how they couldn’t live without each other. Henry's growth and independence living his life on his own terms. Charlotte being able to live her dream. found family with each other. my least favourite part was not seeing Charlotte and jasper finding out that Henry was alive because the last time they saw him they were not sure if he had survived. getting a so happy your alive group hug.

seeing what danger force will have in store when it starts

21.  Where do you personally see the characters 10 years from now? What are they doing, who are they with, where are they in their lives - what do you think happened to them? Most importantly, are they happy?

that charlotte, jasper and henry are happy fighting crime together maybe adopt a pet or two. when henry’s not fighting crime i’d like for him to have his own flower store like a nursery. for jasper he could have a successful podcast. for charlotte i think she has the imagination to write children’s books maybe as a veterinarian as i feel that she would have a connection with animals  and loves helping people i’m not really sure but i think she can do anything that she puts her mind to.

22.  What was your favourite part of the show and why did it initially draw you in?

i have always loved superheros so i guess that’s what drew me into the show just randomly came across it after watching the thundermans.

23.  What was your favourite part of the fandom and why did it initially draw you in?

i saw how welcoming the fandom is seeing all the amazing meta and gifsets @mychenrymadness was actually when of the first blogs i found who’s love of max thunderman and Charlotte made me watch every season of the thundermans  and he became one of my favourite character’s after charlotte and is the reason why i ship them in the first place, chenry will always be my otp but i love thunderbolt too even though i’m not sure if they interacted with each other in the thunderman and henry danger crossover.

24.  Describe your overall emotions/feelings regarding the show being over and the show in general, looking back on it as a whole, with one quote from the show.

i feel sad that it’s over but i have loved the main trio’s journey  especially Henry's growth as a superhero it has made me laugh and cry.

25. If you were able to add one scene in the finale, what would you add?

seeing henry, charlotte and jasper reuniting after thinking their best friend died when they decided to live together away from swellview.

charlotte’s hands down she had the best hairstyle and the best outfits. and for the clothing i have always loved whatever henry wore since i can relate to that style.
