oh my gods the part in episode 9 where sherlock is hardcore masking for watson's mum and watson is surprised at how socially adept he's being only for him to fall into a chair and sigh and say "goodness that was exhausting" IM SCREAMING you have no idea how much this little, tiny bit of autistic representation means, and its so normalized, watson saying "yeah i bet it was" HE UNDERSTANDS i feel so seen

link to my last meta here, it has some context for this
Tumblr media
So first of all. What if I ate glass
Anyways.
Do you think this means he didn't have very many close friends growing up? Just a bunch of acquaintances? And so he invited a bunch of people, but they all had prior commitments, and they didn't care enough about him to leave them to go to his party?
Do you think that's why he fucked up a lot of his close relationships as he got older? Because he never got close enough to anyone when he was younger, and he never learned how to be especially close with people?
Do you think he saw those people who had best friends, who would get matching necklaces, bracelets, whatever, and he would be so jealous? Because what was he not doing that these other people were, that got them such close friends?
Do you think as he went into the army he brought with him this sense of loneliness? Do you think he hooked up with a lot of people to try and get rid of that? And his army mates would praise him for it, even though it just made him feel emptier every time?
And then he got that aforementioned quarantine girlfriend, and he tried so hard with her, smothered her with affection. Yet for some reason he was still empty. He couldn't fully put himself into their relationship.
And eventually, on his birthday, she broke up with him.
Do you think he thought that, moving into 221B, would be another short phase in his life? That Sherlock would eventually move out, and he would go through life with this crushing sense of loneliness and disconnectino from the world?
Do you think he knew that he'd find his whole life in that little flat?

Just some thoughts about DID Holmes in Sherlock & Co.
I need to preface this by saying I don't have DID, all I know about it is from reading and hearing people who do have DID talk about their experience. I can be wrong, I don't mean any harm by it and I encourage people to correct me (just please be kind).
Ok so in the Sherlock & Co. canon, Holmes has DID, amongst a variety of other things, which is a new and interesting thing to explore with this character. I'm not sure if we'll ever see it explored in the show, or if it'll just stay a part of a long list of what makes Sherlock neurodiverse. But I've been thinking about it and I'd like to dump my thoughts here.
I think it makes absolutely perfect sense for Sherlock Holmes to have DID. Even in the ACD canon, Holmes isn't known to have had a good childhood and a good relationship with his parents. Jeremy Brett liked to think Holmes didn't see his mother until he was like eight years old. Lots of neglect, coupled with the struggles of being a "difficult child" because of his perticular cocktail of disorders (ADHD, ASD, SPD, DMDD and ODD), is just the perfect recipe for repetitive childhood trauma that could very well develop into DID. There's no question in my mind that it was a good decision (at least an interesting one) to give Sherlock DID in this adaptation. And that got me thinking about how much he probably struggled with it.
I chose to believe that Sherlock achieved final fusion years before he met John. That's what makes the most sense to me. We know he's got official diagnoses for these things, so it would make sense to me that he got professional help for his DID as well. And based on his personality, and his need to be in control and know all the information available to him, I think final fusion would be the result he would have seeked, as opposed to functional multiplicity.
Now of course one can't logic their way out of neurodiversity, and one can't just logic their way into final fusion. But what works and doesn't work has to have some connection to the way someone is, and I think Sherlock Holmes would have worked his ass out in therapy to achieve final fusion because I think it would have been a horrible time for a man like him.
I'm thinking about how he would handle the amnesia (we know his views in memory and identity), the loss of control when a different alter fronted, the confusion of "waking up" in a completely different part of town, disassociating in the middle of important (or interesting) tasks, etc. etc. I also think that perhaps, his addiction could have been a result of a persecutor alter.
As someone who struggles with communication because of his autism, I think perhaps that could also affect Holmes' communication with his alters. I genuinely don't know if that could be a thing or not, I've never met anyone who had DID and autism so I'm not sure how correct that assumption is. But if that communication was also a struggle, it would explain why functional multiplicity wouldn't work as well.
And I don't know, perhaps we'll have more glimpses into Sherlock's past in the podcast, and we'll learn more about his DID diagnosis, perhaps he hasn't achieved final fusion, perhaps he very much still struggles with switches and memory loss. We don't know, but I do hope we get to explore it more! It ads a new layer of complexity to the character that we haven't seen in other adaptations, and I really love that!
We know that Sherlock Holmes is always neurodivergent, whether that is explicitly diagnosed in canon or not. The whole point of Sherlock Holmes as a character, from ACD canon to any modern version, is that he doesn't think like everyone else. That is literally the definition of neurodiversity. To take that away from Holmes is to destroy the character. But what this adaptation did, by giving a name to each and every trait of Holmes is very interesting and I hope they can handle it well! So far I've been very pleasently surprised by the way they have handled Sherlock's autism. It is very much a part of him and it informs his actions, but it is not all that he is. And maybe it's because Joel Emery's daughter is autistic so he has more knowledge about it than the other disorders, but I still hope we get to see more of that as well, especially Sherlock's DID.
Alright that's all kdjfhg
As I said, I don't have DID so take everything I said with a grain of salt. But if anyone has thoughts they'd like to share please come talk to me! :D And if anyone has DID and wants to share their thoughts about Sherlock & Co. thought the lense of someone with the disorder please do! I'd be very happy to read about it. (Also my ask is always open if anon is more comfy)

was rewatching the pilot again yesterday for fic reasons and thinking again about the sherlock-style screen annotations they had when barry was doing CSI work that they literally only did in the first ep and then never revisited again, presumably because they realized it'd be far too much effort to work out the details on such a precise level
and thinking about like. that barry allen with the hyper-precise exact measurements that he did by eye (with joe shaking his head in awe so you know that he's a CSI supergenius) vs. the leonard snart who timed his heists to the exact nanosecond (which again, presuming they ditched because it's a logistical nightmare to write dialogue that nitpicky and obsessive, and would be such a fucking pain to do on a week-to-week basis). like. yet another reason they are soulmates tbh. is audhd4autistic a thing the same way t4t is a thing? if it isn't then i'm making it a thing

🕰️🕷️🌩️ for the ask game!
🌩️ - Unpopular headcanon?
I'm taking this to mean what's an unpopular headcanon I hold: Sherlock is a sex neutral to positive ace-spec character in this adaption. I think he would have sex and enjoy it in the moment if it was with someone whom he really enjoyed being around, but doesn't actively feel a drive/need/attraction to fulfill. Don't think he'd do anything with his mouth though (which valid).
🕷️ - What are your thoughts about The Final Problem getting adapted?
MANY. I keep flopping back in forth between it's going to be a silly adaption or extremely serious.
If it's silly it's going to be like Sherlock falling off a short height or Moriarty being a rival podcaster and both Sherlock and John are like, "Who??"
But in the most recent adventure, Silver Blaze, we were introduced to Chekov's SD card: An SD card that randomly cuts out and loses data. One that could maybe cut out during the waterfall fight with Moriarty and so John doesn't get to hear whether or not Sherlock survives the fight and subsequent fall. So I'm leaning much more heavily towards serious adaption these days.
🕰️ - When did you first start listening to s&c?
December 19th, 2023. I saw @voilaammayi post about the Blue Carbuncle on my other blog and I was like, "I adore Blue Carbuncle, I need to check this out since it doesn't always get adapted." and fell in love, obviously. *gestures to this blog*

Jolie's thoughts on
The Creeping Man (Sherlock & Co. podcast)
Check out these lovely pieces of fanart for the episode:
Stake out by @mayhasopinions
Rip Ratthew by @noodles-and-tea
You feline bastard by @abstractfrog
I hope people in this universe will never get the idea that Watson is the great storyteller. That’s clearly Sherlock - his deduction about the death of Ratthew was easily as engaging as his account of Matheus's death back in "Thor Bridge".
"Get down here and atone for your sins, you feline bastard!" 🤣 I just love how strongly Sherlock felt about Ratthew‘s death. And then how strong a bond he ended up forming with the perpetrator.
And the meta jokes in this podcast! Mariana pleading for donations bc Sherlock & John weren’t getting paid for this case but were still renting high end cars and attending expensive events… John ruining a brilliant opportunity for an ad break at the Thai restaurant… I can’t believe how brilliant a parody of true crime shows this continues to be, as well as a fantastic audio drama, *and* a very very sweet account of one of the most beautiful friendships in the history of literature.
More stuff I liked in this episode:
Sherlock & John playing Scrabble. Joel Emory is the King of Banter.
We got a "come at once"! 🥳
"It’s 2024, no-one needs to be saying 'thus'". 😆
Have we actually just assumed until now that John is short in this universe, too? At any rate we just heard it confirmed by Bill Wiggins and I’m HERE for it.
The uncool non-noir stakeout 🤣
"And are those skeletal entities in the room with us now?" 🤣
"My dear companion" *happy sigh*
John ending up in Chekhov‘s pool just before the 2nd part credits. On the cliffhanger scale of 1-10, definitely an 11.
"There we go, John." - I love how Sherlock reserves the use of Watson's first name for special occasions. And how caring he can be. He also literally just fished John out of the pool!? So they’re both sopping wet in this scene?!
Loved John's little speech about people’s lives getting commercialised. And the ping at the end.
"I hate you both." - Mariana is such a vibe sometimes.
"Say no more." - "So long, sucker." - "Oh no, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" - John Watson , anti-hero extraordinaire, strikes again, pun intended. How can you not love him.
"I have a dog and a detective to look after." - My heart.
On a serious note for a moment, I thought it was interesting how well this ACD story translates to our modern day and age, with the quest for eternal youth going stronger than ever, and people still willing to pay enormous sums of money for scams like that, and even ready to ruin their physical and mental health for it. I love how this show keeps finding ways to make the themes of ACD‘s stories relevant to today’s world.
In the crime solving sense, I dare say it was completely clear what the mystery was about halfway through the 2nd part, even for those who didn’t know the original story… but the showdown was definitely worth waiting for. Glorious.

✨APRIL/MAY LISTENS✨
hi i’m back, i’ve just finished my degree and do not have enough of a brain to write an in-depth of anything. but! here’s some of what i’ve been shoving in my earholes for the past month, in no particular order.
The Magnus Protocol — (season 1 ongoing) continues to blow my fucking mind. the sound design/music combo for this series is of particular note, it really just… mwah. elevates the text so much for me. i also continue to be impressed by how well this works as both a standalone series and as a delicious trail of candy for those of us who loved Archives. we’re halfway through s1 now and all i can think about is alice dyer.
Beef and Dairy Network — (ongoing @ 109 eps) a partially improvised absurdist comedy pod set in a world that is bizarrely obsessed with beef. my qpp listened to one episode and called it “distilled british humor” which feels… correct. i’ll be real, i’m actually mad at myself for not getting into this one sooner, but on the other hand having a long binge of it has been divine. i would kill to go to one of their live shows.
The White Vault — (5 seasons, 10 eps apiece) not including goshawk because i’ve barely started on that. but the main series… woah! god, i totally didn’t think this was going to be my thing but i could not put it down? the first season is definitely slower than i usually prefer but the characters kept me hooked and by season 3 the narrative completely took over my brain. i also love how well they sold the found audio format, it WORKS. gold fucking star, highly recommend.
Jackie the Ripper — (3 seasons, 5 eps apiece) put this one aside for a rainy day and binged it all at once. deeply wish there was more of it. it’s a raunchy crime drama with a downtrodden detective at the helm who i SWORE i wouldn’t root for but ended up doing so anyway. do recommend! if it sweetens the pot, the protag has the same VA as watson in the currently popular Sherlock & Co.
The Mistholme Museum — (6 seasons, soon to be complete) people have been recommending this to me for years and i just never got around to it, but on the bright side — it was an incredible binge. anthologies aren’t my strong suit but i found the framing device really strong and, crucially, it develops a meta plot that balances really well. biggest strength for me was the narrator, but i can’t explain why without spoiling some key plot developments. just trust me.
Wake of Corrosion — (4 seasons, final ongoing) very cool apocalyptic suspense/horror. i initially loved this show for the dynamic between the two leads, who are brothers trying to reconnect on a solitary camping trip when the world decides to go wonky. i ended up loving the worldbuilding as well. final episode drops very soon.
Neon Inkwell: The Pit Below Paradise — (miniseries, ongoing) this one has a bit of a western vibe and heavy religious/culty overtones, which isn’t my favorite genre. but i think each of the main characters has been developed really well thus far. + many fun cameos from members of the production team, those are really fun to try and spot :)
Twits: A Steampunk Distraction — (2 seasons, 5 eps apiece) very silly comedy of errors from the pov of a bumbling aristocrat. can’t say too much without giving the end of s1 twist away. i highly recommend it if you’re looking for some lighthearted listening. the ending credits are also very cute.
Planet Arcana — (ongoing @ 71 eps) i’m so bad at TTRPGs but this one has such a unique setting, i’m just captivated. tarot-flavored sci-fi adventure for anyone interested. i’ve made it through the first arc and the party has already experienced a crazy amount of development; stoked to see what happens next.
Selene — (ongoing) anthology about a spooky little town with a vintage vibe. single narrator, quite talented. i’m not always easily invested in anthologies but the narrator here really sells it for me, and (!) i think he writes children — both their thought processes and dialogue — very realistically. which is my grandest compliment.
Camp Here & There — (s1 complete @ 33 eps, hiatus?) i put off listening to this for a rainy day because i’d heard nothing but rave reviews and they weren’t lying. this is quite literally the ONLY pod i’ve come across that completely captures the same magic that WTNV did for me on first listen. the creator is kinda going thru it so idk if s2 is going to happen but i really hope so. even if not, s1 is very worth listening to. it’s wacky and sinister and i just love the narrator, it’s hard not to.
We’re Alive: Scout’s Honor — (8 ep miniseries, complete) imagine WA from the perspective of some awkward tweenagers. what’s not to love? the gore is really heightened by each characters’ stage of emotional development. i especially loved the conclusion but i won’t spoil it here ;)
Among the Stars and Bones — (2nd season ongoing) sci-fi drama with a solid first season, really nice narrative tie-up, but the second season was SUCH a glow-up nonetheless! + the most memorable karim kronfli performance of all time IMHO.

Strap in folks, i'm thinking about meta (spoilers for red-headed league under cut).
I've not seen anyone comment on the little clip sherlock plays for john with that one actor in it who pretended to be the owner (?) of the fake studio. @ishouldbedoingalright was so kind to transcribe the sequence:
man: I work alone. I've always worked alone, god damnit.
woman: I'm not asking you to work with me, I'm asking you to love me.
man: arggh how can you love a loose canon like me, huh? I'm just a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. And you've led this lunatic straight to us, and you tell me that you love-
The following WILL be absolutely mental logic, but i think it's SUUUPER INTERESTING they chose this little clip to play.... not to bring bbc ******** into this but there's a quote in it saying "alone protects [sherlock]" and in fact in the 1st enola holmes film lestrade emphasises that "sherlock holmes always works alone". Both statements are presumably based on what we know about acd holmes' past: "I was never a very sociable fellow, Watson ... I never mixed much with the men of my year." Sherlock worked alone for a few years before meeting watson which is delicious to most writers i guess because it makes watson Special as he's such a juxtaposition to most other things in sherlock's life (whichever universe you look at). Sherlock and co is no exception to that! Sooo based on this information the audio clip transcribed above made me VERY quickly prick up my ears. Not to assign john the damsel in distress role in the dialogue but the man wanting to "work alone" and the woman being like "i don't want to work with you, i want to LOVE you" just fits a little too neatly for one not to read into it... and it comes at a really interesting point in their relationship as well: we've moved on from the getting to know each other awkward phase and have moved into the phase where they have a reliable rapport, start to predict each other's actions and overall flesh out their relationship to a more substantial extent that goes beyond just "work colleagues". Dare i say, it's absolutely the time to introduce little bits and bobs that the characters don't pick up on yet but the listeners do. And why not let that be a slowly simmering romance between, oh no they've come to take me away-

Hello Steph! I know you haven't been listening to the new Sherlock podcast but asdfghjkl it's so good! If you join the patreon you can get the transcripts which might be easier to digest?
They also do mailbag episodes and I have been losing my mind at the meta implications and I think you'd like it too. I made a transcript for that since they don't have one on the patreon (and it would feel wrong to publicly post any of their transcripts) and you can see what I mean!
Sherlock loves dinosaurs! John likes Will & Grace! The little interactions between them!
Asdfghjkl I just love your writing and analysis and I think you'd really like this version of them!

(linked post in ask above)
Hey Lovely!
Ah, thank you so much your appreciation of me and my work, it means so much to me! I don't get many comments these days on my old meta, so it means the world to me that it still holds up to y'all!
I actually have NOT been listening to it, but it has been recced to me. I don't really listen to podcasts (nor podfics, honestly) simply because if it's something new I have to be paying attention 100% or I won't understand what's going on (usually I put on movies and TV shows I've already seen for background noise). It's a weird quirk of mine, always has been. I'll probably listen to it eventually, but I honestly don't have any plans in the near future to, unless Johnlock is canonized.
BUT I have heard it's REALLY GOOD and an interesting modernization that SHOULD be listened to, so here are the links for all of us:
[APPLE PODCASTS] || [SPOTIFY] || [PLAYPODCAST.NET] || [AUDIBLE]
Again, I will inevitably listen to it, I'm sure, and I am a huge supporter of any and all adaptations <3

Sorry to bother you again but here's a rant:
It's ironic how some people think Moriarty represents homophobia in Sherlock. They couldn't be more wrong. The way they misrepresent his character is frankly ridiculous.
He's committed many crimes and sins in the world. Homophobia is not it.
Just plain and simple no. Nopety nope.
(I'm done).
OMG this! I am 100% sure I have ranted relentlessly about it and even discussed it in some meta but I can't remember which one.
Let's be real, and as a Johnlocker myself, this started by Johnlockers who couldn't even tolerate the possibility that other characters could be into Sherlock. Worse, because Sherlock's behaviour towards Moriarty and Irene was indeed questionable, they preferred to entirely purge the characters and their glaring let alone canon (i.e Irene admitted loving Sherlock that's literally the whole plot) traits, all while analyzing excruciatingly even the most minor insignificant johnlock details in numerous paragraphs. This was so annoying. You can't have selective analytical skills!
And the whole reasoning... well
Moriarty seems queer -> villain THEREFORE CAN'T BE REAL GAY cos we're on tumblr -> acts fake gay to mirror and torment Sherlock -> therefore Sherlock gay and obligatorily in love with John only-> Moriarty enemy of Sherlock and John -> Moriarty is the representation of homophobia
Yeah cheers :/

T*LC Refutation (but decidedly NOT Johnlock refutation, because that definitely was a thing.)
Part- 1: Introduction.
[Note: I love and ship johnlock because I saw it for myself in the show when I watched it and was part of the general audience in the past. I even want it to become canon in some Holmes adaption in the future. But T*lc needs to get sucked into obscurity and forgotten. Other fandoms like Good Omens, etc., are following the same rhetoric in their "meta" posts, and that needs to go. This is crucial for our basic critical thinking skills and objectivity.]
Alright, folks. Let's talk about the logical fallacies, and how most of the t*lc metas are flawed to their core.
Not to beat the dead horse here, but I entered the fandom in late 2021 (after having watched BBC Sherlock a year ago). I'd started to ship Johnlock as soon as I entered the fandom (because that's what I saw on the show independently, as part of the general audience in the past, even though it was on a subconscious level at first).
I discovered T*LC in December, watched and read metas about it, became a T*LCer myself (albeit briefly - for like a month or two), and then I grew out of it.
I grew out of T*LC because while the meta posts were seemingly clever, I always thought there was something off with most of them. I didn't have much vocabulary related to critical thinking skills back then (because English is not my first language), so I couldn't put my finger on exactly what was wrong with them.
I reluctantly and falsely assumed they must be right just because I couldn't come up with effective counter-arguments then (what a flawed way of thinking). I just thought that this thing (t*lc) was not my cup of tea (ha!).
I continued to ship Johnlock though. I still do it wholeheartedly. I'm no longer part of the BBC Sherlock fandom, but I do still ship Holmes/Watson enthusiastically in various other Sherlock Holmes adaptations.
In the meantime (i.e., from when I dropped the idea of t*lc like a hot potato to the day I decided to exit this fandom for good), I did a lot of research.
Research related to what the fandom used to be like throughout different eras when the show was still on air (through sources such as old posts on Tumblr/other social media platforms, Sarah Z and hbomberguy's videos on t*lc and the actual show criticism respectively), and also research about how the rhetoric of most conspiracy theorists looks and sounds. I've read about articles on science vs pseudo-science as well (I come from a science background myself, so those articles were helpful as a refresher for me).
I also read a lot about cult psychology and how it can be used effectively to lure anyone in.
T*lc checks all the boxes of flawed ways of thinking, various logical fallacies used to prove or disprove something, pseudoscience, a typical conspiracy theorist's rhetoric, and a cult group's way of thinking in real life.
When I use these terms, I do not throw them around lightly. I've read a lot about this along with my friend, let's call them Kim. For context, Kim also comes from a science background. They ship johnlock too.
I know the comparison of T*lc with a religious cult in real life has been done to death, and same is the case with the comparison of t*lc with any other outlandish conspiracy theory out there. It's just that I've been bottling up my thoughts and feelings on this thing for way too long. I can't do that anymore. Just bear with me if you find something repetitive.
Kim and I read about all these things on the internet, had a lot of long discussions for months altogether, and now I've personally decided to share our conclusions with anyone out there who stumbles upon this post.
This blog is a few days old, and I'm the only person behind this, so I don't have many followers just yet. I'm not even expecting anything from anyone. If you see this post, I just want you to read it with an open mind and act according to your judgement afterwards.
Now that we have the whole context with us, let's begin.
Part- 2 : What's wrong with their actual meta posts?
T*LC (but NOT Johnlock as a whole) refutation master post.

give me a rant about something you’re really passionate abt rn or just need to get off your mind
Sherlock in the latest episode ohhhh god. I just— oh god.
so you know how he basically is trying to have laddish banter with John or whatever? Had me in tears for two reasons.
first of all it’s just really funny to imagine Sherlock busting through the door with a “HELLO DICKHEAD”
but also. It’s got me in tears because. Sherlock’s trying to express his love for John in a way that John will understand.
since the beginning John hasn’t asked Sherlock to change anything about himself. He sees Sherlock bleeding out on a treadmill, and when he finds out why, instead of yelling at him, he just offers to patch him up.
he never gets mad at Sherlock for not being normal (well, he has, but he’s made up for it, and it doesn’t happen often). He’s accommodating towards Sherlock.
the minute John says “oh well you could change this” Sherlock POUNCES on it, even after John says “oh it’s okay you don’t need to,” he continues because he thinks John will appreciate it if he tries.
John learned Sherlock’s language, and so Sherlock’s trying to learn John’s.

I'm a multifandom mess and I'm not in charge of whatever my brain decided that I am going to hyperobsess over. Fortunately my obssessions rather stack than die away so sooner or later I will probably come back to whatever era you've found me at.
My recurring topics are for sure Undertale/Deltarune, ACD Sherlock, Good Omens, Disco Elysium, and whetever else that I forgot to mention.
I am currently handling a few projects:
ACTIVE:
Echoes of Elysium (a Disco Elysium comic where Harry tries to stay sober and sort out his relationship with people, set directly after the events from game, with some retrospections) - AO3 - ComicFury - INFO - Page 1

Purple Love Award For 7-percent, 7PercentSolution
Tumblr media
Blurb From Your Gifter @totallysilvergirl: Seven does everything. 100+ Sherlock fics on AO3. Haiku. Brit Picks. Grammar Guides. Writing tips. 93 Sherlock fics. Guides to English life. Beta-ing. MAD research skills. Energetic promotion of new writers. Meta. Recipes and photographs and poems. Shiny facts and novelties and insights collected and shared with the delight of her emblem creature, the Magpie. 2.4 million words solo-authored, 3.3 million words included the co-authored ones. I can’t pretend to have hit everything Seven contributes, but I wouldn’t still be writing fic without her and her generous welcome to the writing side of the Sherlock fandom.
