Reverse Bechdel Test Sherlock Holmes Edition: Does Watson talk to a man who's not Holmes AND about a topic unrelated to Holmes?

Broke (2016): BBC Sherlock is a phenomenal piece of media and anything that seems like a flaw just hasn't been fully explored yet

Woke (2020): BBC Sherlock is an incredibly flawed series run by an egotistical writer, it never deserved the hype and is actively bad on so many fronts (especially representation)

Bespoke (2024): BBC Sherlock is flawed and bogged down by increasingly poor writing, which many fans refused to see while it was airing, leading to hugely misplaced expectations (particularly for the final series), AND it has the seeds of some compelling characterizations and portrayals, some genuinely solid performances, and touches--albeit imperfectly--on complexities that are still being discussed today (particularly as it relates to the relationship between Sherlock and John). The huge cultural impact of the show has created a massive pendulum effect in its public perception, leading to most people today remembering a caricature of the show (whether positive or negative) rather than appreciating its nuanced merits and failings...that being said Season 4 sucked

Fairly disappointed by the lack of Dirk Gently x Sherlock Holmes fanfics.

Can you imagine these two meeting up on a case? like Dirk investigating a missing cat that leads him somehow to a stolen royal artificat which Sherlock had been investigating and Dirk insists the artifact opens a portal to a different dimension while Sherlock insists it's the work of a some delusional cult. They have to work together even though Sherlock finds Dirk uttery ridiculous and infuriating, not only because of his attitude and holistic nonsense but also because he can't actually read him in a way that makes sense.

All while Todd and John are bonding over how life is as the sole carer and begrudgingly best friend of a brilliant detective with zero social skills and a tendency to put them in life-threatening situations.

Like, how the hell hasn't anyone written this yet??

Relationship envy except I envy the bond between iconic fictional characters Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson

"Murderous Attack upon Sherlock Holmes" Watson's mind disconnects from the world for a bit. This is not the first time.

He rushes to 221B and finds Sherlock Holmes in bed, exhausted, barely alive. This is not the first time.

Holmes whispers his name. Tells him everything that happened. Lets him sit close enough to see his wounds. This is new. The last time he was bedridden, Holmes called him mediocre. He let Watson think he was on the brink of death to use him for a more genuine reaction. The last time Holmes's name was on the papers followed by paragraphs of mourning, he was off, somewhere, letting Watson believe he was dead because he didn't think his account of the story would be believable otherwise. Because Watson can't lie. Holmes has told him, so it must be true.

But here, after been genuinly beaten very badly, Holmes does something new. He asks Watson to "exaggerate my injuries," to "put it on thick." He asks Watson to lie. And this? This level of trust? This is new. Holmes is letting him in, telling him everything. And quite frankly? Watson doesn't know how to deal with it.

Perhaps Holmes is recovering faster than he says he is. It would not be the first time. Watson knows what it's like to be left out, that Holmes's mind is so above his own and that if he doesn't communicate he has his reasons and Watson shouldn't feel bitter because of it. It has only led to disagreements. They don't live together anymore.

Or perhaps. Well, perhaps Holmes is recovering exactly at the pace he says he is. At the pace the expert surgeon says he is. That would make logical sense. But it would not make sense, not really, Holmes letting him in fully and unconditionally, Holmes letting him see him completely vulnerable and trusting him entirely. He must be faking the slowness of the recovery. He always has a back-up plan. He always uses Watson somewhat expecting him to fail. Watson has made peace with that, not with this.

So when Holmes asks him to learn all he can on Chinese pottery, Watson doesn't ask questions. "I am here to be used, Holmes." Maybe, if he had asked, Holmes would have actually told him. That would be on par with this tentative new. But Watson is not used to the new, so he doesn't ask for explanations. He goes and pretends to be a pottery expert and Watson can't lie, Holmes has told him and when the gig is up Holmes only narrowly escapes.

He was counting on Watson to be able to keep the ruse for longer. He had trusted him entirely. And when he meets him later, Holmes is still exhausted and convalescent in his chair. He is still recovering. And he tells him everything, umprompted.

Watson moves back into Baker Street soon after.

Ok for some reason my brain is hyper focusing on Johnlock again like I won't regret it 2-3 business days from now when I come out of it with 5 new open AO3 tabs (out of my already 156 open AO3 tabs not counting other unfinished/unread fic/fic I've not caught up on, full disclosure) for fic that I probably won't finish reading and/or while being unable to find the. Very Specific. fic I want to read and just having like an open half-filtered tab... But Anyway.

Imagine after all the seasons are over and Johnlock are old and have finally talked about their feelings and properly, actually, gotten officially together

(and subsequently gotten married in like 2 months cause Sherlock filled out the paperwork while John was not actually at home and then actually having a discussion about it when John finds out it happened cause Sherlock casually mentions it and actually agrees after Sherlock mentions (read: steamrolls over him, anxiously) them practically already being married by common law and just officialising it for the tax benefits... they only have a proper wedding, maybe on their/an anniversary when Mrs Hudson finds out probably 6 months later or sth and complains,, but I've gone on a tangent again)

Anyway Rosie is a teenager, with after-school activities and a phone.

I'm just imagining Sherlock dragging John out on a murder case (read: date) and deciding to feed him midway through (like always, tbh,, sth sth that post about feeding the depressed man that tends to forget to eat but I digress)

So Rosie gets a text and a voicemail from the two of them (cause Sherlock prefers to text and tell me John is not the sort to leave voicemails, like he would have put it on the voicemail machine if they had one he's so old man sometimes)

And it goes something like:

"Hi honey, it's Dad.

Sorry we won't be able to make it to dinner with you, your father's got a case and you know how he gets...

Anyway, Mrs Hudson is going out tonight remember, so your Papa is booking the usual table at Angelo's for you... You still like the Spaghetti Bolognese right?

Don't worry about us, we'll eat before we get home. And the reservation is at 7, so don't be late. This will probably take a while so don't wait up either and go straight to bed young lady, you hear me?

Anyway I think it would be very cute, like they love and care about her, even if they're old men who laugh at crime scenes and whose ideal date is trying to catch a murderer together, and they show it by taking a moment to make sure she's fed with her favorite food even when they're busy solving crime, so yeah.
