tw: brief reference to domestic violence

One of parenthood’s biggest surprises (in Eddie’s opinion, anyway) was how easy talking to his and Steve’s daughters about why his parents aren’t in his life was.

He’d figured it’d be hard to figure out exactly how to explain that his mother's death was due to domestic violence caused by his father, who had died in prison twenty years later – but…that about covers it, honestly. Sure, the exact rendition of the story the girls hear varies as they get older, but…it’s pretty straightforward, actually.

Explaining Steve’s situation turned out to be way more complicated for…well, for a lot of reasons, and the fact that his parents are still alive and breathing and choosing to not be around didn't help things at all.

It also didn't help that the girls totally saw Jim and Joyce as Steve’s parents, but it did lead to a conversation that Eddie doesn't think he'll ever forget:

It happened when he was passing through the kitchen to see that Steve was cooking with Moe.

"What're we up to in here?" he asked.

At four years old (she’s actually almost five), Moe has yet to outgrow a phase of picky eating that had started out right around her second birthday. Steve is trying out a new method where he involves Moe in the cooking process in the hopes that she then actually wants to eat the product of her hard work when it’s done. He's seeing varying levels of success.

“We're making burgers,” Moe said, “Poppy’s recipe.”

Eddie looked at Steve skeptically, “Poppy Jim or Poppy Joyce?”

Steve rolled his eyes, “I’m telling Joyce you said that.”

And then he added, “Jim.”

Satisfied, Eddie continued on his way.

“How come you call your dad Jim?” Moe asked.

And that had Eddie pausing in the hallway just out of their line of sight.

“Well, Poppy’s not my dad, sweet pea,” Steve replied.

“Did you not have a dad?”

“I did have a dad – I do. He lives in Indiana with my mom. We don't really talk to each other anymore though."

"Why?"

"When I was younger, I decided that they didn’t take care of me like I needed them too, and Jim and Joyce stepped in to be like my parents instead."

It's not completely accurate, Eddie knows (and he doesn't love the way Steve is shifting culpability away from his parents because that shit was fully on them, but whatever; it's his story and he can tell it however he want), but just like how they don't have a completely accurate picture of what happened to Eddie's mom either, they know what they need to know for now and they'll hear more down the line.

“But what did your mom and dad do?” Moe asked.

"Well, you know how Daddy and I read to you and play with you and put you to bed and make food for you – it was a little different because I was older and I needed different stuff than that, but…”

Eddie watched Steve look back at their oldest daughter, watched him see the look of confusion in her big brown eyes.

“They didn’t do that?” Moe asked, sounding perplexed.

Steve shook his head, and Moe continued to look at him as if he might suddenly tell her he was joking.

“That’s crazy,” Moe finally said, and Steve let out a laugh.

“It is kinda crazy, isn’t it?” he agreed, “That’s why I love being your dad so much, because it’s actually so easy to want to take care of you. Even though you sometimes like to make it hard on purpose, right?”

“Yeah,” she grinned proudly, “Like when I make you snuggle me more at bedtime and you fall asleep by accident and then the kitchen is messy in the morning."

"Uh-huh," Steve said, poking her in the side so she giggled, "Exactly like that."

"You're a good dad," Moe told him.

"You think?" Steve asked as he pressed a kiss to the top of her head.

"The best dad."

“The best?” he repeated, “Can’t let Daddy hear that.”

“He can hear it.”

Ablaze

Four years older than Branch.

- Part Rock Troll. - Anger issues through the roof - He learns how to manage his anger later in life but when he's a kid it's bright and boiling and constant and it makes him feel alienated and unwelcome and scared. - Branch is the one who helps him realize that everyone gets angry, even if it isn't explosively like Ablaze, but Branch himself can relate to feeling like he's nothing more than a ball of rage. - He has a lot of energy and can really be the epicenter of a party. - Ablaze is one of the first candidates to take an exhausted or wasted Troll home from a party because not only will he keep them safe but he's strong enough to carry them home if they pass out. - He lives with his parents and his grandpa, he lost his grandma to Trollstice but he never knew her. Sometimes he feels bad that he doesn't mourn her like the rest of his family. - He thinks Hype is annoying at first and he isn't quiet about it. After he spends a bit more time with the glitter troll, though, he finds that Hype is actually a kind-hearted soul who's eager to offer an ear and apologizes through gritted teeth about his behavior. The two of them are incredibly close after that. - He's not good with trickier emotions but Kismet knows that when he does sit down to talk about things or assure them, even if it's with a scowl on his face, that he's being sincere.

Trickee

Three years older than Branch

- Painfully optimistic but not nearly as bad as Poppy. - Trickee can be a little ignorant to how terrible the world is sometimes but it's not by lack of exposure. He grew up around his Aunt and Uncle going at each other's throats and to him conflict is just a normal part of life. Sometimes it takes a little extra push to get him to realize that fighting or insults aren't normal. - He lives with his Mom, Aunt, Uncle, and baby cousin. He gets overlooked fairly often thanks to the infant in the house but he doesn't mind too much, he uses the freedom to explore the village and spend time with Branch. - His mother hates Branch, she thinks he's a skid mark on the bright image of the village. She doesn't know that he's Trickee's best friend. - After his initial confrontation with Creek to help Branch Trickee's made it a goal in his life to help people who can't see to help themselves. He gets into a lot of fights but he hasn't lost one yet. He keeps a tally of how many times he's had to pleasure of punching Creek. - Trickee is very in-tune with his emotions but he's not really eager to feel the more negative ones. He'll go desperately out of his way to try and cheer himself up and it's a good tell for the others that he's not in a good headspace. - He constantly trips over boundaries but he's very apologetic when he realizes. - He doesn't know what happened to his Dad. His mom says that he died during Trollstice but Trickee thinks she sounds too angry with a dead man for that to be true.

Hype

Three years older than Branch

- ADHD Nightmare - Hype struggles a lot with executive dysfunction. He's a very energetic and organized person so when he knows he has to get things done but he just can't he spirals. - Kismet do their best to help. When Hype just can't do something they'll start for him. If Hype needs to organize his room Kismet will be there with some tubs to start the process and make it a game between friends and it usually helps a lot. - He's really loud and he's constantly moving but he's one of the sweetest trolls you could ever meet. He's always happy to listen and he'll be a shoulder to cry on for anyone that needs it. - He's ridiculously smart. When he's eventually allowed into Branch's bunker he's the only person who ever recognized his organization system. - Hype lives with his parents and his siblings. He has an older sister and a younger brother and while they aren't the closest they do love each other. His parents are a little overbearing and don't really understand how his brain works but they try. - He has stupidly overreactive tear ducts. It does not take much to make him cry, happy tears, excited tears, angry tears, sad tears. Kismet will tease him about it sometimes and he'll glare daggers at them while they laugh.

Boom

Two years older than Branch

- Gay but not a stereotype. Your typical gay wouldn't be able to clock him if he didn't lean into the aesthetic as he gets older via rainbow hair and gay earring. - He's a bit of an airhead sometimes but he's astonishingly emotionally intelligent. He's the best at reading the rest of Kismet and he'll always be the first person to pull one of the other members aside to make sure that they're okay. - He's a great listener, to the point where you won't even realize that he's doing it. He'll say just the right thing to get you talking about whatever's bothering you and then by the time your done letting it all out he'll just be there with a soft smile and gentle assurances. - He wishes he was smarter. He's not stupid but sometimes he misses the mark and his dad has always made fun of him for it. He can tell that his dad doesn't mean to be malicious but the jokes hurt sometimes and it's made him a little insecure about his intelligence. He's jealous of Branch and Hype sometimes, they're both so smart, but that only makes him feel worse because it's not their fault. - Life of the party. Boom is the kind of troll that'll bring the good alcohol and end the night drunk on the nearest table, screaming the lyrics at the top of his lungs and shining like the sun under the spotlights. - He wished he wasn't gay when he was a kid. Not because people were mean about it or because it was wrong but because it made him different in a way that he wasn't really comfortable with when he was younger. The more time he spent with Kismet the more he realized that differences made people better and made them easier to love and so he leaned into what made him stand out. - He lost his mom during the Great Bergen Escape. He and his dad assume that she's long dead but losing her has only brought them closer.

Branch

Twenty-four as of Band Together (Twenty-two in the first Trolls).

- Getting close to people again terrifies him. Everyone he's ever loved have left him, willingly and otherwise, so meeting people and caring about them shakes him to his core. - He tries really hard to keep the rest of Kismet away. He snaps and he threatens and he scowls but they all keep coming back. They come back because he treats their wounds when they're hurt, he listens when they're angry. These people have entered his life and shown him kindness and support that felt so foreign to him now and he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he left them alone to hurt. - Hype is the only person Branch will ask for advice on his inventions and projects. He's seen how brilliant Hype is and he can respect it. - It takes him a long time to let them into the bunker for any longer than ten minutes at a maximum. They're only allowed in for patch jobs for a while and they're never allowed pasted the first room. It's only after he finishes the kitchen and the living room that he even begins to let them look around the space and even then it makes his skin crawl. - Eventually Branch makes them their own space. He hates having them in his bunker but he's come to enjoy spending time with them so he does something about that. He finds a big space under some tree roots not too far away from his bunker and he transforms it into a large recreational area with couches and games and even a small kitchen and bathroom. That space is where they end up forming Kismet.

Her hair isn’t naturally that neon rainbow, its black underneath! She regularly bleaches and dyes, usually in the company of others bc its always funner, and you need someone to check the back!

Ma is a mix of birds, but she’s mostly eagle!! Thats where she gets her big ol talons!

Her talons are really sharp! She always tells ppl to mind them when they’re close. (Aa i can imagine her saying that actually “I’m so happy you decided to-, watch the talons, sugar- come over today”)

She has a leather bag with spikes that says “PUNK MOM” in bright green, its her ma bag >:D she carry’s snacks, first aid utensils, and medication! Mostly anxiety medicine or pain meds.

She is the tallest neighbor, beating Barnaby by about half a foot

She went to Mother Mary’s School for Problematic Boys, after she came out. She was sent at 17

She met Barnaby there ^ she was astonished by how brainwashed Barnaby was, since he was sent there so young he was so accustomed to all the teachings. Poppy decided she wouldn’t just escape, she’d take Barnaby with her!

In the school, everyone went by their last names. (Adults called the kids “Son ____” and kids called the adults “Mother ____” and “Father ____”, kids call each other “Brother ____”. They thought they were a big family, basically. Its a very stereotypical cult.) which explains why Barnaby doesn’t know her deadname! He called her “Brother Partridge”, when they escaped they traded their real names, and ofc ma said to call her Poppy

Poppy calls her parents every year or so, (“just makin’ sure they’re still bigoted. Aha, just kiddin’, I don’t have to check.”)

I like to think Ma has a southern accent. I don’t actually know where she would’ve developed it, but it fits with the mom vibe ok?

She’s horrible at baking, but AWESOME AT COOKING. Like go to her house every thanksgiving. Not even, go for dinner she’ll happily cook you some heaven sent meal im serious.

Poppy was originally going to be completely greyscale, no neon whatsoever. I changed it bc it looked way too gloomy and.. bad.

Poppy would happily say yes to a “Hey Mister*” (*teens standing outside a store and asking adults to buy them alcohol/cigarettes. This literally never works, but Ma would get u some as long as u promised to be safe, and might even make u party at her house)

Not-So Fun Facts

Ok some context for this one: Barnaby was going to be killed by the cult. Before a sacrifice or killing someone that stepped out of line (thats what Barnaby did) they down a cup of wine to cleanse themselves before taking a life. Poppy knew they’d kill Barnaby and poisoned the wine. She pretended to drink it as everyone else did, and bit her tongue as she waited for it to work. If it took even just a few more seconds to kick in, Barnaby would’ve been killed

The poison wasn’t lethal, in Poppy’s words, “they’ll shit weird for a week and vomit more then a tween with bulimia, but they’ll live.”

I literally actually can not recommend this enough. When the Drideo dropped I was actually online on a server made for Dream Stans and multiple people stayed online and all gathered at community spawn to support each other. I waited to watch the video because someone in the group volunteered to go first to feed us a list of trigger warnings. Someone was going around tossing flowers to everyone (and is now the reason I have a mc poppy tattoo + dream's first priv twt just being a poppy). And these were people I barely knew outside of the server, if at all. If you think you would benefit from doing something like this absolutely do it.

I think they just wanted ghosti to watch her because they have infantilized their adult daughter and convinced themselves that she needs a babysitter at fucking 18.

Completely valid take Moku but also putting myself in their shoes, if i were a parent w a child at age 18 i gotta say i might ask one of their friends to keep an eye on them, esp if it was them leaving for a con across the county/another continent. Not babysitting style obvi but like a "just make sure they're being safe they will trust your opinions as their friend" type of thing, and its fairly common in the con scene as well- I've been asked by parents of 15-19yo con-goers who I'm acquaintances or friends with to keep a general eye on them, let them do their own thing but intervene if necessary. But we'll never know what Caiti's parents wanted by asking Ghosti this, and whether it was keep a general eye or literally babysit her, Ghosti absolutely 100% fucked up beyond redemption either way. yeah I totally get that and I've been in both situations so I can understand it for sure! Personally where I think it gets more into "babysitting" territory is the fact that caiti's mom literally /paid/ ghosti. So to me, it looks more transactional and more like a "duty" rather than a friend just keeping a well-meaning eye out for her. Plus caiti lives in the UK by herself most of the time right? So it would seem weird for her mom to not trust her alone at a convention in her home-country but trust her out across the ocean? Either way I get that her mom just wanted her to be safe. Shame that neither caiti or ghosti thought of that as a priority.

Chapter 29.

i scanned the restaurant for the raven haired boy i adored. whenever my eyes landed on him, my heart skipped a beat. he stared down at his phone while he awaited our arrival. i led my parents to the table, climbing in next to johnnie as my parents sat across from us.

my mom gave him a fake ass smile and stuck out her hand. "Hi, i'm y/m/n."

johnnie took it with a sincere smile on his face, shaking it gently. "johnnie. it's nice to meet you."

my mom had a glare in her eyes as she silently judged his tattoos, piercings, and makeup. i was relieved to see that johnnie wasn't too scared not to go in makeup or anything but what he usually wears. i smiled softly as i stared at him, admiring his calm attitude.

my dad seemed much more genuine as he shook johnnies hand. "i'm y/f/n, it's great to meet you, man."

"i think you have a brave style choice," my mom glared towards me, giving me the stink eye before making eye contact with him again. i took johnnies hand from under the table and held onto it like my life depended on it. "How long have you been dressing like this."

"Since i was around 14," he answered confidently, "i guess it just kind of stuck with me all these years."

my parents began talking amongst themselves before we got to order our drinks and food. johnnie quietly filled me in on how his morning went, simultaneously comforting me. his voice was soft and sweet, just above a whisper, so only I could hear him.

whenever drinks arrived at the table, my mother turned back to johnnie. "What's your current occupation?"

johnnie stuttered, "I'm a youtuber."

"Wow, does that make good money for you?" My father seemed somewhat interested.

"Actually, yeah. I'm pretty big on YouTube, and it pays really well." johnnie stayed respectful with his words, but I could tell he was being extremely cautious.

"That's good to hear. so, I heard you two live together, is that right?" My mom interrupted. johnnie nodded in response. "How's that working?"

it seemed as if my mother was trying to find all of the little cracks and holes in our relationship, as if she was digging for where our relationship could go wrong.

"It's working really well, we haven't had any issues so far." he took a sip of his drink.

my mom looked slightly annoyed by how well this was going.

despite her acting off, the rest of the brunch went smoothly. johnnie and my dad had a conversation about what he wants in the future. johnnie expressed that he does, in fact, want a family at some point, which made my dad's face light up. meanwhile, my mother stayed silent.

after me and johnnie had paid the bill for all 4 of us, Johnnie rode with us back to the hotel. I dropped my parents off and drove back home with johnnie in the passenger seat.

"that was fucking scary. it seemed like your mom had something against me." he laughed nervously.

"she has something against everyone. I think she's just mad cause I'm actually happy or something along those lines. my dad seems a lot better, though." I explained, waving my hand around as I spoke. "i can tell my dad likes you."

he smiled softly at my comment. "well, at least your dad fucking likes me. maybe i'm just not cool enough for your mom."

"well, i think you're too cool for my mom." i teased him.

johnnie took my hand and squeezed it. "did they say anything about your tattoos?"

i laughed nervously. "i didn't show them. my mom was already being weird. i might show my dad later, though."

about 15 minutes later we made it back to the house. i crawled into our bed and went on my phone while johnnie decided to hop on and stream. he decided to go on his stream and play a highly requested game, Poppy Playtime 3. about an hour later, i went to sit next to him and join the stream, which made the chat go wild. i got to speak to the chat for a little longer before he decided to save the game where he was at and end the stream. he then joined me in the bed and we cuddled and watched movies for the rest of the day. with the eventful morning, i was glad to spend the rest of the day with johnnie.

when or if I started shipping it: in a universe two doors down from this one i could see myself getting into it - but alas, we do not live in that universe.

my thoughts: it's certainly cute! i just wish i had more thoughts about it than that :,D a slightly saltier part of me grumbles that the only reason this ship is so popular is bc sally and julie are the only two femme-presenting characters who are Relatively humanoid in terms of design and poppy gets brushed off bc she's "supposed to be the mom friend" even though sally interacts with her Just as often if not even moreso -- but i would be a fool to truly turn against another yuri soldier. TL;DR: i think starflower shippers should be allowed to do whatever they want forever, but alas, my enthusiasm lies elsewhere for now.

What makes me happy about them: despite what i said in the last paragraph, i do think this ship comes the closest to capturing a very specific euphoric experience that a lot of sapphics i know (myself included) experienced when they were like 10-12: roleplaying a super intense dramatic storyline with your friend who you kinda had a crush on using OCs that you made up that same day. i do think this pairing in particular would make for a KILLER princess bride au. "oh because julie and buttercup are both iconic blondes-" no, no. listen. sally is buttercup. julie is the goofier westley who gets a butchy makeover when she comes back as the dread pirate roberts. you can't change my mind.

What makes me sad about them: the fact that they're so sillygoofy now makes me SCAREDDDDD for how things will fare between them when shit gets real. i feel like i've said that for every ship but like, every pairing i've gotten so far has a specific Dynamic that is just as threatened by this as any other, and sally and julie's dynamic in particular is "boke and boke-who's-convinced-that-she's-a-tsukkomi." can such an iconic comedic duo survive such trials? only time will tell....

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: not much! fics that center around this pairing tend to be pretty well-written, i just don't have much thoughts on the ship itself.

Regarding Poppy initiating the sex with NF, since I know Poppy watches this blog and is probably gonna complain; yes, someone can initiate sex at first, but then revoke their consent if sex goes too far or they change their mind during. Yes, that should still be respected. These are facts. However, Poppy has never stated that to be the case for her. She initiated the sex, consented to the sex, and continued to consent to it as it reached completion. The only thing that made things change is that NF then broke up with Poppy the next day. That does not 'retroactively' make what happened rape. Poppy can regret having sex with NF, can be upset about it, but that is NOT rape. Poppy insists that because she was "in a manic state for 4 months, she couldn't consent to NF because NF made her too mentally ill to consent clearly" but that doesn't make any sense. All NF did that seemed to put Poppy in a "manic state" was... exist. She didn't rile Poppy up, she didn't emotionally abuse her, she was just existing and Poppy made her a FP, tried to have NF either date or be a mom to her alters, and then started to emotionally abuse NF. We even see in the conversations with Zena and Poppy that NF tells Zena she feels like Poppy is demanding too much time and won't leave her alone, Zena says "oh you can just tell her you need space" but we also see how Poppy treats one "mistake", one "wrong move, word, or tone". It's very reasonable that despite Zena's 'assurances', NF doesn't feel like she's in a space to tell Poppy "hey I need some space" because then Poppy will start guilt tripping, rping, messaging over and over, etc. Plus, Zena knew how NF felt but did nothing to even like, pop over into the next room and say "hey Poppy, you're making your gf uncomfortable, you need to give her space"? It's not Zena's job to manage Poppy's relationships, but they also basically make themself Poppy's keeper and mediator. The least they could do was, like... tell Poppy to back off.

I were sitting on my couch with my girlfriend, Marcy. We had been planning a sleepover for such a long time now, and the day had finally come!

“Hey Mar-mar?” I turned to look at her.

“Yeah, N/n?” She responded, looking up at me.

“Could you head over to the kitchen and fetch us some popcorn, while I pick out a movie?” I asked her as I slightly tilted my head to the right.

“Yeah of course! You know what type of movies I like~” Marcy giggling as she pecked my cheek, before standing up and making her way to the kitchen.

I giggled slightly to myself as I watched her walk away. God, she was just so cute sometimes, I sighed lovingly, before remembering that I actually had to find something for us to watch.

After a little bit of a scavenger hunt, I finally found the remote behind a couple of pillows at the very edge of the sofa. I clicked the on button as the TV lights sprung to life, before I started searching for a movie. Maybe ‘Lord of the Rings’? No, we watched that last time. How about ‘The Shining’? No, Marcy is kind of a scaredy-cat, haha. I continued to search a bit more, my eyes skimming through the different covers, as I heard Marcy roaming around in the kitchen, until one particular movie finally caught my attention. ‘From up on poppy hill’, a studio Ghibli movie, and… a romantic movie. I blushed slightly at the thought as I smiled. This is perfect! Marcy loves Ghibli movies and this is a chance for us to have a romantic couple moment! I said to myself with a determinant look on my face. We. Will. Cuddle.

“Hey Y/n!” Marcy suddenly said as she returned with a big bowl of popcorn.

“Marcy!” I said, startled, as I hadn’t herd her coming. “I um.. I picked out a movie!” I said with a nervous smile as Marcy turned to face the TV.

“A love movie?” She looked at me with a small blush covering her features.

“Y-yeah, we can pick out something different if you don’t wanna watch it, I just thought that-“

“Hey hey, it’s ok!” The back haired girl giggled a bit as she calmed me down with a sweet smile.

“I absolutely love that movie and I would love to watch it with you” she said as she looked away from my eyes, slightly smiling.

I sat there in silence as I looked at her, before I captured her in a big bear hug.

“Awwwh sweetie! You really wanna watch a love film with me? Your too cute~” I smirked as I laughed.

Marcy burrowed her face into my chest with a whine, clearly embarrassed, as I laughed even more.

In the end, me and my girlfriend ended up hugging each other close under one of my moms big and fluffy blankets on the couch. Marcy even rested her head on my shoulder as she gave me random fun-facts about the movie from time to time. Tonight couldn’t have been more perfect.

I felt like this little scenario actually turned out really cute! Sorry it’s so short though, but I really need more sleep 🥲

This is a tricky one for me because I cry at all the things! Narrowing it down to just one fic from each fandom was difficult

Schitt’s Creek

tangle and stretch by @stereopticons which is a quietly beautiful soulmates adjacent fic that is a heart wrenching examination of the ways Patrick knows David - pre- and post-canon - the ways he was shaped by David before he even knew him, or himself, and the inevitability of their love. It left me weeping at my desk when I read it on my lunch break a few weeks ago and has stuck with me since.

Fun fact: I once had a counter in my discord username for days since @indomitable-love had made me cry (with her gorgeous writing). Most of her fics fall into this category. But the fic I’m actually going to recommend is

God Save the Blessed American President Mom by zipadeea (I don’t think they’re on tumblr but happy to tag if they are) - I generally don’t read anything whumpy, but so many people told me to read this and so I caved. And then spent a couple of hours ugly crying while I read this. It’s SO GOOD though, it tore me apart and put me back together again. I will never read it again because it hurt too much but everyone in the fandom should read it.

eah thing but it's me pushing my christmas AFTER thanksgiving agenda #13

Here's what I think the EAH characters would do for friendsgiving (their families are too dysfunctional for all of them to have good thanksgivings let's be honest)

Briar and Rosabella take up the bulk for A LOT of the cooking and they tend to make spanish rice and fajitas

Ginger took over the making of the pies with Maddie and they sometimes get distracted by how the recipes are supposed to be followed (Maddie is a firm believer in the idea of "turning up the heat makes it back faster")

The bookball boys play their own game of bookball outside in the grass while Dexter keeps score

Cerise absolutely crushed everyone speed wise and Ramona is banned from playing because of bad sportsmanship :)

Dushess is completely against eating the turkey because, you know, the fact that her mom is permanently stuck in bird form, it's a touchy subject for her

Duchess is 100% trying to sneak in Nutcracker music throughout the day so she can get a head start on practicing for Nutcracker season

Justine also tried to do the same thing

Melody revoked their music privileges

Holly and Poppy have a tradition where they knit blankets or sew quilts before the big meal for everyone to take part in

They use the newly made blankets and some older ones made by their Nona for the post meal nap

Darling got roped into the bookball game

She was doing really well until Daring smiled and blinded her for a few seconds

He got sent inside for foul play

Apple brought an assortment of apple treats (apple pie, apple fritter, candied apples, caremel apples, apple slices with peanut butter, etc.)

Raven, being the only responsible driver (side note yes there are motor vehicles in EAH, reference the scene where Snow White was in a limo in Dragon Games) was sent out to pick up last minute groceries with Ashlynn

Ashlynn knows where all the organic produce is

Faybelle is a safety hazard in the kitchen so she was stuck with Farrah on setting up the table (which she was soon banished from when she couldn't get the utensil order right)

But on the bright side she did bring soup

Hunter was actually the one who hunted the turkey for the big meal

Cedar was the first one to give thanks at the table and her little speech made a lot of them tear up, including Faybelle (she'll never admit it though)

There you go everyone, enjoy the wholesome holiday headcanon! I considered making one where it was their biological families and all their problems but I decided that they deserve a break from the angst :)

it's so weird to watch youtube drama and it starts out like 'oh that seems like. mildly cringe but mostly harmless' and then like an hour later it's escalated so far I'm like 'fuck okay. fine. sure. in isolation, some of these small actions are fine. But this collection of actions are extremely harmful. I do wish the handful of weird cringe window dressings weren't included but I also see how they have been used by these specific people. augh goddammit.'

And yes I'm following the weird poppy-zena drama thing. I did used to watch their youtube channel, but not follow any of their other socials so realizing just how deep the rabbit hole goes is extremely wild. so much of the stuff they spoke about on their youtube channel is antithetical to their actions off their youtube channel. But also the fact that most of the commentary channels don't actually know how POTS works is wild sometimes because the stuff dealing with Spawn is like. As a disabled adult living at home due to an inability to support myself in this economy, and the way emotional abuse can like... seriously fuck up your ability to like. have the confidence to move forward. And like. Those guys did not want that kid to leave, it was clear. and they kept them stagnant by impacting their health and fucking with their head.

Personal anecdote: my mom used to get on my case constantly to work out a budget because I was so constantly irresponsible and stupid with money, but one day I worked out a budget for what I would need if I was to get an apartment of my own and asked if, as the adult who had lived on her own and always talked about being the one responsible with money, she would look it over and give me advice on what I wasn't factoring in and what I really needed to consider if I wanted to make a realistic budget. Her response was to get extremely angry at me for thinking about moving out, and start asking me why and interrogating me about that. I got no advice about the budget and swiftly learned instead that talking to my mom about leaving was a bad idea. I also abruptly got an income cut and other life issues popped up, but. Dollars to Donuts my mom doesn't remember that this happened. This event literally meant nothing and just doesn't exist in my mom's memory and if I was to bring it up she'd tell me I was just being spiteful and blaming her for all of my problems. But often controlling parents do countless things they do not think of as mattering that leave huge impacts on their kids, and if they've done this shit since that kid is small... even if that 'kid' is an adult now. the abuse has left enough of an impact to fuck with them pretty hardcore into their adult years.

like. it's often really embarrassing to be dependent as an adult, but there's often a lot of stuff that happened when you didn't have any power that like. when you're an adult who's supposed to have power doesn't really change. if your folks have been taking your money since you were a teenager, how do you have a savings? if you've been isolated and disabled since a kid, where's your support system? if it's all you know, how do you run? Parents will complain about a 'worthless layabout' and like. they cut all that kid's lifelines. eventually they just lie down and stop. It's a lot of work to learn how to be an adult all alone.

So uh, do you remember my Tiny Tots AU? Well, I've thought of a few more things for it, if you'd like to hear XD of course you can easily ignore this too ^^

- Ok so in your second chapter of the Smartass' Daughter AU, it looked like that lady was initially drawn towards Wheezy because he was holding baby Y/N (but got ensnared by his beautiful eyes~). What if this became SUCH a common thing in the Tiny Tots AU? Like, so many women (and men) see just-starting-to-smoke-probably Wheezy with all these kids of varying ages, sees how much of a dad he is over all of them despite the fact none of them are his, and swoon over it? Maybe they assume he's some teacher, or a town baby sitter or something, but either way, they all feel similarly? Idk I just think this is funny XD

- What if Wheezy, and by extension Greasy since he's SUPPOSED to be the other responsible one here, get to befriend some of the parents? Not all of them, like I doubt he'd like Psycho's, depending on what they're like before the sanitorium, and he definitely has no respect for Poppy's. But like he and Smartass' and Stupids mum! I can definitely see her appreciating him watching over her sons very much ^^ (on this note, imagine Wheezy's cousins catching wind of this 'daycare' he's running and telling Mr. And Mrs. Wheezy.)

(This is for your headcannon of their families specifically since I'm still trying to figure out how I see their family situations. I'll get back to you with this when I do if you want XD)

- So, Greasy desperately needs some therapy. Wheezy might as well be an unlicensed therapist with the way I depict them. Maybe, even though Greasy is constantly leaving him with the kids and getting into trouble, they wind up bonding? Not necessarily a father-son bond, but maybe more like brothers? Idk, I just need Wheezy comforting Greasy when he's having a particularly rough day.

(Imagine Stupid, and possibly Poppy, being a comfort to Greasy too! Like taking care of Stu could distract Greasy from whatever is bugging him, and he's reassured that at least this little tyke likes him, even if the rest of the world seems against him ^^ and with Poppy. Well, she's a slightly older baby, so she doesn't quite understand why he's upset on a deeper level. But I can see her just hugging him, regardless if he's got a sneer or a defensive posture, and just telling him that everything will be ok. She'd try to stay until he feels better ^^)

- Psycho and Greasy totally develop a childish rivalry. Like the kind that makes Greasy wonder half the time why the hell he's even dealing with this little twit, and the other half he's being just a petty as Psycho is. Idk how it started- you know what? There wasn't even a beginning probably. Psycho met Greasy, this shifty teenager who smells funny, and immediately decided he didn't like him. It's like those videos of babies who start crying as soon as they're in somebody's arms XD except this child can and will bite-

- Alright, back to angst. Smarty is more than likely really stressed with having to take care of his little brother. It's no one's fault, his mom has to work so hard just to put food on the table and before Wheezy, there wasn't any other adult in their lives they could trust. But it doesn't change the fact that he still had to grow up faster than he should have because of this (maybe this is where he gets his leader instincts? So at least there's that). Fortunately, he's got Wheezy, and sometimes Greasy, to help out ^^ unfortunately, they came with all these other children so Smarty has to deal with that too XD

- Since Psycho and Poppy are friends in this AU, what if their families wound up knowing each other too? Idk what Psycho's family would think about her parents, but her parents definitely didn't approve of the little weasel friend she's made. I can imagine if one set of parents find out that their child is gone though, they'll call up the other household and ask if their kid is missing too. If yes, both families know that their kids are off together doing lord knows what XD (maybe this could lead to Poppy finding out about Psycho being left at the sanitorium too! She would definitely help get him out, or at least convince his family to take him back out).

- Roger and Jessica aren't really around that much. They'd kinda be like side characters in a TV show that only show up in a few episodes, I guess? But I'm imagining that they and the weasels and Poppy all run into each other on occasion. If Roger and Poppy are related, they'd show up and hang out more often. But if not, then there wouldn't really be a way/reason for them to interact with the others that I can see (unless Psycho still chases after Roger, and now Jessica has to defend her friend from the scary kid XD)

- Now that Shiny has officially been created, I gotta figure out how she fits in this AU. But this definitely would take place during her magician phase. She and Jessica are also the same age- maaaybe even know each other? Still debating it.

Also Bradley was the one who gave Branch the brass knuckles you see in the second movie
