putting a readmore cause this is probably just going to a long rant of cephalopod spite about a topic that probably will only interest a select few so let's-a go

I'm going to be honest, I really wanted to like this movie. I did.

Positives first!

This movie is not the worst thing I've seen in my life.

It's got inklings of fun concepts and good stuff here and there. I think the base concept as a whole around satirizing reboots and bootlegs is a fun concept for a Roger Rabbit type movie (though the idea of stealing characters and turning them into bootlegs seems a little roundabout? why not just have characters made in a lab, come up with a clone identity crisis dealio or-- I'm trailing off with this idea alone, stick with positives right now). Things like The Uncanny Valley, the gag with Ugly Sonic taking a new lease on life, and the claymation style cop all brought some genuine pleasure to me. There is creativity at play here.

But... it just has such a cynical center that feels like it has nothing to say outside of the surface level "haha too many reboots" without making any additional comments aside from "oh but since this is OUR reboot, it'll be good and anything bad that happens we can write it off as self-deprecating and meta!!!" Falling into a trope and acknowledging that it's a trope does not make it cool unless you do something fun or new with it. The Lonely Island crew, while talented in their own ways, were just not the right people to helm this movie because it feels to me like they don't really love the sincerity and bits of camp that truly makes this type of concept. (The Peter Pan thing really is its own can of worms, there are other articles talking about it, but whether it was intentional or not, it really does make it feel that much cheaper in its satire.)

The animation... literally on everyone else looks fine except for the cel shaded 3D. Why did we do that. What are we doing.

"Oh, 2D on the main characters is too expensive!!!" Well they sure spent SOME money on those crossovers

Honestly, unearthing the legal battles on all those characters from other studios would be interesting to research... and like that intro was entirely 2D too! That looked amazing! At least make it look properly 2D or something, like maybe 2D puppet rigs?? For a movie that's coming from Disney, it really cheapens the whole thing further. You don't have to have a bajillion recognizable characters from different studios for the clout and the youtube cameo videos.

And for that matter, this doesn't really feel like a chip and dale rescue rangers necessary movie. It really feels as if you could switch the duo with any toon duo (IP or OC) and the plot would still work.

It just feels empty and pandering. I dunno. No hate to the creative team that worked on it, I'm sure the animators and story artists worked their hardest to make this good. But it just wasn't it for me.

And now, hey, look at that, it's been pretty much forgotten outside of a quick "hey remember when ugly sonic cameoed in that one movie?"

There are a lot of cool ways to push a concept like this! I was actually reading an interview with Owen Dennis who said that when asked what IP he'd like to make a series out of, he said he'd want to do a take on GEX in which the character itself tries to grapple with his existence as a character being brought into a reboot of his own franchise, and becoming a character with more depth. That sounds really neat and I wish we got that.

And the reason that got me thinking about this movie again is that, in the year of our lord 2025, Doctor Who really nailed the energy and excitement of a toon creature concept. From the BTS, you can really feel that EVERYONE involved was buzzing with the idea and process of making this. (And hey - the episode even has a bit of a jab at those hyperrealistic ""Real"" Fictional Character in Real World CGI in a fun way without beaning the symbolism over your head.)

it seems i kiiinda misunderstood what was happening last ep, everyone relevant to the railroad construction is in the time bubble it's just that javier isn't going up to the mountains with lloyd,,, i see!!!

tbh at first i was like, a lil confused that javier didn't go up to check on lloyd esp since javier is so willing to do anything to protect lloyd. its clear too that he knows abt lloyd's heart freezing,,, though i suppose at the same time, javier trusts lloyd's word so much that when the noble says he'll be fine, javier accepts it as he always has,,, either way his desire to run to protect lloyd and his willingness to trust that lloyd will be okay are both very sweet,,, the mutual trust always makes me so happy,,,,,,, ohhh javier ilysm,,,,,,

i am glad then that alicia went up to go check on him and that javier is reassured by this!!! look at his smile ooohhh hehehee

i think choosing to have javier trust his queen instead of sowing conflict btwn the two is rlly nice, tho mostly bc i am biased bc i tend to prefer sweet reliability over infighting,,, he trusts her to take care of lloyd the way javier would take care of lloyd,,, (is this alillovier propaganda? perchance,,, /lh)

it makes so much sense that they'd be on the same wavelength n get along,,, two peas in a pod,,, powerful and clever and oh so loyal to the person that they've come to admire, respect, and love,,, the person that's saved them time and time again,,, heehee,,, truly the besties of all time!!! red and blue!!! i love it a lot!!!

though smth to note here, i am quite confused as to why javier's mana is suddenly rejected when he tries to absorb it? but alicia's works just fine? and javier has shared mana with lloyd before, my mutual reminded me of the namaran wall arc where siluria and javier both help lloyd with absorbing the hell knight,,, however the fact that javier's mana components have yet to break the law of causality during this arc, aka he wasnt a grandmaster yet. maybe bc of his status as a grandmaster now, where he has the same otherworldy mana lloyd does, that makes it not possible to properly absorb the mana?

alternatively, javier technically is never fated to die/be transformed in the original story, whereas lloyd should be dead and alicia should be tainted with dark magic, so bc the two of them have warped their fates at the moment, it works? and javier's doesnt bc he's technically not? idk if that makes any sense,,, i was told by my mutual that javier has shared mana with lloyd a lot in the novel before, so i'm not sure why they made this change! i hope they expand on it a lil in the future,,,

also, while i'm yapping here, i like that alicia is straightforward abt what she likes abt lloyd, but i wish they got to have a longer conversation than this,,, like this is a good start but it didn't really go anywhere (besides some really wonderful panels of lloyd but i mean like, narrative-wise lol)

as i mentioned in my last liveblog, alicia and suho share a lot more common experiences than they probably realize! and i think if they got a chance to talk about that, talking about their past circumstances, how they became who they are now, and just more in general on what led alicia to fall for lloyd besides what he's capable of,,, this ship would actually sail pretty well, yknow?

unfortunately though with the pacing of the manhwa and i guess just their episode length requirements in general, it makes sense that they couldn't get to that,,, i just wish it happened,,, maybe in snippets in future episodes? but seeing as we're getting pretty close to the end afaik, the chances are slim

i mainly love llovier but i also really love alilloyd, and i think alilloyd as a whole would have a much better leg to stand on if they actually talked about their experiences and had more instances of saving each other, of supporting each other, the way javier does with lloyd. it's too few and too far between for alicia and lloyd, so it feels like it's flatter than what it could be, y'know?

a part of me hopes that they did get to do that in the novel, but from what i recall hearing, alilloyd didn't have a strong leg in the novel either,,, i distantly recall someone telling me that the manhwa is actually doing alilloyd stronger justice than the novel did (i may be misremembering tho so don't quote me on that lol), and seeing as the manhwa's interpretation of alilloyd is so few and far between as is,,,, it makes me worried that the novel never actually got to touch upon how their relationship evolves (if im wrong, please correct me!!!)

anyway,,, this leads us to probably my FAVORITE panel of this week,,, this one of lloyd completely flushed EEE EHEHEHHEHEHEHHEE

I YELPED WHEN I SAW THIS,,, I LOVE THAT ALICIA FALLS FIRST AND THEN LLOYD FALLS SO MUCH HARDER THAT'S FUCKING ADORABLE. methinks it's like that with javier too. lloyd falling and tripping up over realizing someone has romantic affection for him is probably one of my favorite things EVER. that's adorable. one last thing to mention is just that,,, it seems like theres a mage messing w the weather conditions up in the mountains and i aaaam a lil worried that itll kickstart fate for alicia,,,, esp considering we,,, havent seen worthroad in a while. whatever that guys name was,,, what if its him and he's gonna fuck everything up!?? im really worried for them,,, please be okay,,,

and that's all for this week! i really REALLY enjoyed this episode,,, the panels and art were so so good, and while there were some things i wished would happen i think it was still really good overall, it gave me a lot to talk about! the gags were balanced and their interactions were so fun,,, yay!

I was looking through my old drawings for any remnants of that phase of mine, but I think teenage Qinny threw everything away. Anyway, I read a bunch of creepypastas yesterday, and OH. MY. GOD. You can tell just how old they are not only by their content but by how everything was so new for people back in 2010 — like, the shocking parts were the extreme violence and abusive situations, because if you take those two topics away, there’s no reason these stories would’ve been so famous and scary (and that’s not even counting the massive fandom-ification of creepypastas and how the fandom interconnected them all).

Going back to my drawings, because I remembered something: I’m almost sure I didn’t just draw my own OCs, but also my friends’ OCs, shipping them with other creepypastas (I was at the peak of my phase lol). But when I started writing fanfics, I remember writing a “creepypasta” about the Man in the Rabbit Mask (scary name,i know), where the story was about a painting of a man wearing a rabbit mask (shocking wow), but in the end, you found out it was actually a window. I’m gonna try to find a drawing I made of it (BECAUSE I KNOW I KEPT IT), but that was my absolute peak.

Right now, I’m working on an OC idea similar to Perfect Blue and Black Swan, playing with the concept of psychosis and delusions of persecution, since I want to do something different from the old creepypastas I’ve read (so far, I’ve read Clockwork, Sally, Eyeless Jack, Seed Eater (that one was bad), and Nina the Killer). And as you might’ve noticed from my readings, I’m deep into the creepypasta fandom rather than “serious” creepypastas (like Ted the Caver and 1999, which I’ve watched videos about).

Something else I want to check out is Marble Hornets, which, even though it’s not technically a creepypasta, ended up being linked to them because of the Operator being associated with Slenderman by creepypasta fans. ANYWAY. I have a lot to talk about, but the topics are all over the place lol BUT!!! If I end up making this OC, I’ll probably throw them in with the Proxies and force this crossover between Marble Hornets characters and creepypastas lol.

If you liked Manhunt, and are okay with a similar, if slightly darker vibe then I recommend this one! I will say, though, if my ending is bittersweet leaning sweet, this one is bittersweet leaning bitter imo.

It reads like if Gravity Falls was a magical adult series instead of an all ages show: complete with optional monster sex chapters! Yay!!! Heads up though, this series is incomplete, and the author hasn't updated in a hot minute. If unfinished fics bother you, but you are interested in explicit stuff, I recommend specifically checking out Because & Despite, which stands on its own just fine!

Mama Xianyun ideas

So, I got hit with this headcannon that, when they were younger, Ganyu- and later Shenhe, would sometimes help Cloud Retainer with preening her feathers, plucking off stragglers (sometimes picking out the wrong feathers. Ouchies.), and helping with those hard to reach spots.

Now, with Shenhe and Ganyu being fairly busy with the responsibilities of their respective careers, I'd imagine that young adoptee, [Name], would inherit the mantle of assistant groomer™️ to our dear mama crane (maybe Shenhe and/or Ganyu would give them tips on what exactly they're looking for when they're helping their adoptive mama).

On another note, when you made the initial post that brought up the prompt of "Xianyun adopting a Liyuan orphan", I could not help but start thinking about the scenario. So, I assume that in the context of the prompt, Xianyun would be doing this in her human form. So imagine little orphaned [Name] finding their adoptive mother is an Adepti? Like, AYOOOOOO????!!!! I like to imagine they'd find out accidentally, witnessing her switching from her bird form to human form (or vice versa), and she has no clue they're there until she hears them squeakily shout "MAMA, YOU'RE AN ADEPTI?!?!?!"

I LOVE THAT IDEA i have similar thoughts about some of my winged ocs, and how their preening process usually goes and who helps them do it (if anyone), so i find myself pretty familiar with such ideas. i find it endearing, and perhaps somewhat intimate, you know? the wings are delicate in a way, and for a bird, very important. so to be able to help with preening is an indirect statement of trust! shenhe and ganyu offering Big Sisterly advice on this matter is such a cute concept. [name] would take this responsibility soooo seriously (and both women can't help but think that their little focused pout is so cute. shenhe probably has mild cuteness aggression towards them when the ropes are off HAHAHA)

and yes i imagined it as her in her human form! like, can you imagine.... everyone in liyue hears about this odd new resident and-- when did she get a child?????? Hello??????? everyone's not sure if that's her biological child or...? turns out she ran into some orphaned kid and was like "wow. okay. this is mine now." it's not even ooc SHE WOULD DO THAT FR

FINDING OUT THAT XIANYUN IS AN ADEPTUS HELP. imagine being a child and finding out that the nice but weird lady that you've come to see as your mother is a fucking IMMORTAL BIRD ADEPTUS? it would be shocking. and i feel like it would just happen randomly and unexpectedly. like, maybe shenhe mentions it. or ganyu slips and says something and realizes that they didn't know. or perhaps it's as you said and they see xianyun switching between forms. and their honest reaction is just "HUH????!!?!??? WHAT. MAMA'S A WHAT???? MAMA?????????" it's kind of funny actually

[name] probably grows up to be a very weird person. not that that's inherently bad! but i think they grow up to be a very odd, but kind, person. being raised by xianyun would have that effect. maybe [name] was already kind of a "weird" child. who knows?

GOD. BABYSITTER MADAME PING. i know xianyun is probably going to act like all the other adepti in that "i definitely have never met this person in my entire life and do not have a long-standing and complex friendship with them ahahah :)" way, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't leave her child with her if necessary.

babysitter ZHONGLI. no particular thoughts about this, since i've already done this concept within the context of a different fic, but i still think it's endearing.

also xiangling GIRL i forgot about her omg but her and [name]...... teaching [name] how to cook even though they're a child and probably shouldn't be near an open flame? and now [name] is eating weird ingredients... oh well. that last part was probably going to happen anyway. mama xianyun will try their dishes but she gives them very honest feedback. it's not mean-spirited at all--never, no mean feedback for her newest child... gordon ramsey vibes; have you seen that man talk to kids? bro is so nice--and it only ever motivates them to do better.

So many thoughts about this...... it has the potential to become a series, like the adoptive dad kaveh one)

There is quite a lot of infidelity in Mary Bell Township. Everyone is aware of it to some degree, some more than others.

One day the passive aggressive comments turn to more aggressive comments. Scar confronting Grian about who it is he's seeing. Then confronting Bigb. Then Ren comes out and asks what the hell is going on, why is scar yelling at his partner?

Then Scar tells him.

The fight is heard throughout the Township, people peek out of their houses to see Ren and Scar getting more physical. Until Ren, in a burst of panic and strength, kills him.

Everyone is quiet for a moment. Everyone is shocked. They stare, then move on with their day, like nothing happened. Then, when Grian returns home, he sees Scar. Laying in bed, asleep.

They became their own undoing.

and 2. Bruce is one of the richest men on Earth. In Gotham, no less. While he's all for justice, he's a father before anything. All it takes is the backhanded comment that started this whole thing to be mentioned and he sends the offending party scrambling with their tails between their legs.
