🌸 Byakuya & Shunsui w/Son!Reader | Bankai before Shikai HCs 🌸

❗Small spoilers for the mention of Azashiro in the novel.❗

It struck him as peculiar for his son to gain his bankai before ever achieving his shikai, yet he knew it wasn't impossible. After all, he knew that Azashiro achieved his bankai without ever gaining a shikai. Still, he found it rather strange at first, but he couldn't deny how unique it made his child out to be. Everyone gushed over the fact that you achieved your bankai first, and as much as you might have enjoyed the attention, you knew this would only make training and fighting a bit tougher for you.

It was more tedious than anything to have to fight without a shikai. Your bankai was always your last resort, however, Byakuya knew this and often had you train alongside him to further your capabilities. He knew better than anyone that a shinigami shouldn't depend solely on their bankai, and so he devoted his free time to helping you to at least try and gain your shikai. It wasn't easy, but these things never were, and your father wasn't the same man he used to be.

Byakuya was a lot more understanding of your situation than you thought, but he also didn't see you as any less for not having a shikai. He also didn't work you to the bone during training. He took things at your pace, and would oftentimes include Renji in the training sessions.

Now, some would call your father a bit overprotective for this, but he grew worried ever since a mission to the World of the Living ended up with you badly injured. He felt awful when you told him it was because you tried to not rely on your bankai as much, to which Byakuya told you to forget he ever said such a thing. That if you need to use it, use it without hesitation. Your life and well-being mattered more to him than restraining yourself like that.

Other shinigami have resorted to nicknaming you "the second Azashiro", but you don't care. Byakuya does, though, and such a silly thing is immediately put to a stop.

If you ever do gain your shikai, your father will sport a smile so proud that it would definitely be the talk of the barracks. However, if you never obtain a shikai, that's okay, too. Byakuya won't ever see you as weak or anything different. He could never think of such a thing with his son. If you still wish to continue training to not rely on your bankai, he'll happily do so.

His son achieved his bankai before his shikai? He's surprised. Very, very surprised, but no sweat. He knows the same thing occurred with Azashiro, especially since that man never achieved a shikai in the end. That just makes you special in his eyes. Now, Shunsui obviously knows the little complications that come with not having a shikai, as well as what can happen when a shinigami relies too much on their bankai. He'd pull a Byakuya and try to train you. Emphasis on try.

It's not that it's difficult, but he can see how bored you get training each and every day with him. As much as he knows it'll make you stronger, he can't bear to see you unhappy like this. So, instead of training you to unlock your shikai, he'll just focus on improving your basic swordsmanship skills as well as your bankai. Shikai be damned at that point.

You're the talk of the Soul Society, though. People are even comparing you to the still imprisoned Azashiro, and you don't care. Neither does your dad with his little carefree personality. Sure, you don't have a shikai like that man, but that doesn't mean you're going to be like him.

Shunsui does get a little concerned when you're on certain missions, though, but you always come back with little to no injuries. For anyone who ever doubted you and your strength, because it certainly was never your father, you prove yourself each and every time. It puts a proud smile on your old man's face. To the point where he always has to brag about you. Nanao never hears the end of it.

He knows you don't need a shikai. Honestly, not with how strong you are now. Though if you ever do get one? He'd be THE proudest dad. Might even bust out a good bottle of sake for such an occasion. Though if you never get your shikai? That's fine, too. Shunsui knows these things take time. That or your Zanpakutō is quite the stubborn one.

Either way, he won't ever see you any different than him or the other shinigami. He also won't take any slander to your name on that, either, and will always bring up the fact that it's the same as shinigami not achieving their bankai. Your old man will always have your back on this.

Shunsui x Reader - Headcanons

The very thing that attracted him to you was your attitude and your intensity. He thought you were worth getting to know better because your personality seemed to switch completely when you were at work in comparison to when he would occasionally see you off duty.

You were the complete opposite to him, who just stayed on vacation-mode all the damn time. It was intriguing to see someone so 'model-squad member' - like get so shy and bashful when the adrenaline wears off and the responsibility is gone.

The first time he had seen you in action was like watching Soi Fon lead her squad. You were quiet and deadly, often silencing hollows with fast, overwhelming barrages of attacks from all directions as opposed to being flashy and strong like Kenpachi or Hitsugaya, though you weren't quite as strong as a squad leader yet.

Though when he saw you next, sitting in the shade and laughing with your squamates, he was even more interested than before.

He started hanging out with you more and more since then, and since he was your superior, you couldn't really get away, now could you?

He could never get used to the way that you would easily direct a squad of multiple people to work together perfectly, but every time he spoke to you, you would blush and refused to keep eye contact.

You couldn't even scold him for slacking off so damn much.

He's far too handsome and you're far too smitten to risk getting on his bad side and annoying him by being pushy.

When he walks in on a training session where you lead your fellow squad members, he's deadass got the words knocked out of him as he hears you barking orders and directing the group perfectly, being strict and merciless with them in a way he had never witnessed you act before.

He treats you differently after that. He's a little more teasing, but he definitely listens to you just a little more in fear of being yelled at like that, much like husbands will fear their wives' wrath.

After a while though, he clocks that you're literally a pushover for him, and of course this asshole takes advantage of it.

You manage to catch him drinking sake on the job once, and he only smiles like an idiot as you rattle his ear off about how unprofessional and irresponsible it is, amused at the way you don't raise your voice at him once. You're already head over heels though, he's just infuriating sometimes.

He totally manages to convince you to help him with his paperwork, and you can't help but feel a little happy that you're helping him and doing something to make life easier for him.

He knows just how smitten you are when he finally clocks the difference between the way that you treat him in comparison to other squad members and even other captains. He knows you're not a kiss-ass, and you're stubborn as an ox, so why is he so different?

Not to mention your reaction when he flirts with you?? You get sleazed on by other men and it's all "huh? You little ****! That's the main thing that tips him off, of course. You're just so intense and sometimes downright scary when you have to be, but then when you're with him, it's like having a skittish little puppy around.

Of course, as he confesses that he knows how you feel, and tells you that he feels the same, he's holding your chin and smirking like a little shit, even though he's a good foot taller than you. He knows exactly what he's doing to you, and he fucking thinks it's amusing.

He's grown so protective over you as well- he wouldn't dare pushing his luck with you and making you uncomfortable, or being too difficult for you and stressing you out, and every time he sees that you're upset he's immediately there to make you feel better.

The first time you kiss is something he'll never forget though, especially because of the squad of a moan you released into his mouth when he surprised you like that, and it had him chucking and laughing at you, his chest shaking while you pout and turn away from him, going bright red because of his teasing.

Scenario- You were entering the room in the afternoon after taking a bath, you thought he would probably be resting but when you found him, he was lying on his side and looking at you when you walked in. He didn't say anything but you were surprised by how quickly he was already sitting on the edge of the bed looking at you, devouring you with his eyes. You hesitated for a moment just to make sure that it wouldn't be a bit risky but although you knew the consequences of your actions you didn't give up. You walked past him and "accidentally" the towel slipped off your body leaving you naked in front of him and he couldn't contain himself and ran his tongue over his lips.

"It fell, I should have held it better" You said with a fake and innocent smile and trying to grab the towel, but he grabbed your wrist and you looked at him

"Don't worry you won't need it now" He said before grabbing you and placing you on his bed

Shunsui:

As a certified pervert like him, he will even drool when he sees you. He always reacts as if it were the first time because he never gets tired of admiring you.

Scenario- You leave the bathroom with a towel wrapped around your body when you see him entering the room at the same time, already with a smile on his face after seeing you. He greets you and lies down on the bed, leaning against the headboard and preparing the bottle of drink, you then see the perfect opportunity to drop it. He seems to be distracted but when he hears the sound of the towel falling, his eyes immediately go to your naked body and he chokes on his drink.

"Looks like it fell" You said smiling innocently

Byakuya Kuchiki: His hugs are like a crispy, chill afternoon. He won't show affection or hug you in the public, but if it’s just the two of you, it's a different story. It's relaxing and refreshing to have Byakuya holding you.

Kenpachi Zaraki: At first, his hugs at first are like a porcupines needles, but then they are smooth like the back of a whale, so strong and powerful, but yet, calming and not overwhelming. He knows his strength, so he knows how tight to hold you. It's comforting how tight he can hold you and he runs his hand over your head, gripping the back of your neck. He complains when you ask for a hug, but it makes him the happiest man in the world.

Shinji Hirako: He's super greedy with it comes to hugging. He'll squeeze you until you can't breath and are squirming against his body, trying to get out of his tight grip. Seriously though, when he hugs, he can't get enough of you. He'll breathe in your scent and have his arms wrapped around you so damn tight. He's probably stuck in his lab when you ask him for a hug and he refuses to leave his hard work, so he just places you on his lap and multitasks. He'll stroke your hair or rub your back, typing on his keyboard and clicking on the mouse. He enjoys these quiet moments with you.

Kensei Muguruma: His hugs are firm and his big beefy biceps squeeze you 😩 (what i wouldn't do to have my head being squeezed in his bicep...ahem) The smile that grows across his face is huge as he pulls you into his big chest for a hug. Sajin Komamura: A big, fluffy hug :) You know the kind of hug that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. He'll hold you as long as you need, but in reality, Sajin needs this hug more than anything. He loves to cradle you in his arms and breathe in your scent, relaxing his whole body.
