dumbass is very much not what it sounds like. the file name is from a prompt “You dumbass. Don’t do that. Ever again.” that i started writing on my cross country flight. It is a sequel to the loudest silence where Roy would have been calling Jamie a dumbass for pushing him out of the way but it felt like too much, but the title stuck for the word doc.

The prompt turned into bikes & breaks.

Here is a snippet from dumbass though:

“Will he be able to play football?” Roy asked. 

“It doesn’t matter,” Georgie said. “As long as he’s going to be okay. It doesn’t matter if he can play or how long it’ll take him to recover. We’ll take care of him. I’ll take care of him.”

“Is he going to be able to play again?”

“Roy.” 

Ruth’s voice was curt. He wasn’t asking as a coach. He wasn’t even really asking as a friend. 

“I don’t give a fuck if he plays or not,” Roy took a deep breath, willing his voice not to crack. “But Jamie’s going to want to know when he wakes up.”

People argue about if Silence of the Lambs is transphobic or not but I'm going to throw my hot take into the ring and say that Sleepaway Camp is iconic.

What really muddles it a bit imo is that Angela is not actually a trans woman at all, or at least not enough development (literally zero) is given to the reveal to ever say anything about what she thinks about the situation, but rather force femmed by a completely batshit insane aunt (in a scene that is extremely poorly written and acted, it is NOT a good film by any stretch of the imagination), and considering her age when that began as well as it being the only apparent motivation for her murders you're obviously meant to think the answer is "probably didn't like it too much".

But whatever man, no one cares about those details. Angela is a scary trans woman, I'm a scary trans woman, she speaks to me!

Sometimes I have some really cool and fucked up sort of Bloodborne+ dreams and last night involved an optional boss fight that drastically changed how you perceived the enemies if you did it

Killing this optional boss would alter your perception so that the beasts were now just regular people still capable of speech and thought, but because it was only your perception that was changed it was impossible to actually tell whether or not you were actually killing beasts or people and you were essentially locked into a permanent state of blood-drunk frenzy

by the way. im making a lego set but i had to pause to say. Clarice failed in its basic fucking thesis statement. you can tell the creators wanted to uplift minority voices; opposing sexism racism and transphobia are some of the basic themes of the show and we saw them explicitly say shit like we want to address problems like transphobia in the original movie. but we saw them take a minor cishet white male character whose one characteristic was that he was a sexist and they elevated him to a charismatic hero. like. do you fucking hear yourselves. I don’t have a problem with cishet white male characters in general but when you see a perfectly good secondary antagonist already established in the text and decide actually “he’s one of the good ones don’t worry about it” it really fucking shatters any illusion that you give a shit.

october's bringing a lot of analogue/'90s graphics horror indie steam games to attention. seems like it's at its peak and inevitable decline in popularity with over saturation of the genre right now. what I'm interested to see is what turn of millennium media nostalgia will bring to the table next.

vhs has tape degradation to emphasise visual/auditory scares; fifth generation video games were still crude enough graphically to have your mind fill in the gaps and create an uneasy atmosphere through their uncanny environments and models. so, I wonder what people are gonna do with DVDs and PS2-gamecube-xbox level graphics? some developers are, arguably, already creating the latter with their graphics being Way too sophisticated for authentic mid '90s hardware, so that's definitely achievable. can you make puzzles/secrets out of the menus, use CD skipping in the place of static and distortion?

this era's also where computers/the internet start their rise to prominence, so maybe we'll see more web-focused horror in a revival of classic creepypasta or something lmao
