I don't have any fun, new, digital art to show for myself. Most of my time has been sunk into life obligations and comic work, but I have been dipping my toes into sewing (and have been working on tufted stuff, but idk if I'm proud of it enough to show it off yet, ha!)
But, how we feeling about little hand sewn frogs, Tumblr community?
I used the pattern from this etsy listing, in case anyone else wants to try it out. It's meant to be for a machine, but I did it by hand because that's what relaxes me, and it worked just as well.

more patterns~~
not kimono patterns tho, yet~~ might try making kimono/hakama again later cause that other one looks fine~~ or more kimono designs~~
cause I like the kimonos but don't have access to the able sisters shop yet, and am playing "hard mode" so have to make my own patterns and change my outfit every week as to the rules~~
but for now~~~ dirt~~~ or more precisely stones/pebbles...
I worry my pixel art is very rudimentary cause I didn't spend forever on it, but designing them felt like it took forever anyway~~ not bad for a beginner but also not good given all the beautiful things I've seen on animal crossing new horizons youtube building people~~~
I think I expected that one to wrap around and create longer horizontal stones but idk if it worked that way, the first one I created actually looks kind of ok. and you can easily count the tiles given where the bigger pebbles are placed~~~
works really well for mapping out where you want stuff at the beginning of the game~~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
feel lazy with it tho cause I just used the smaller and bigger circle tool and shaded where I thought needed shading, .... or lightened....., as well as some specks of dirt and grass on an otherwise transparent path.
took me forever to realize (cause I couldn't see the lines on the final "color") that that last one is actually transparent~~~ I couldn't see the lines on it and just thought it was another white color~~~
and felt like it took forever to make the pattern cause I'm particular and not that talented in my own opinion~~~
lol
idk how else to take pictures of the game so yay phone camera~~

me: Hm, I have an idea for a textured stitch pattern I could use on a sock. A nice, basic sock with some texture, yep.
me: The beginning of the round makes a jog in my repeating texture, which annoys me. I could add a narrow vertical stripe, just a couple of stitches, ribbing maybe, to make the break in the pattern look like an intentional design feature. It's still pretty simple, though.
me: Actually this vertical stripe should be a little wider, more of a decorative panel, so I can put some cable-y things on it.
me: Now I need to decide how to end the textured section, and make a transition into plain stockinette for the foot.
me: plain stockinette is boring, I think it needs a little border just before the toe.
an outside observer, looking at my nearly-finished sock: This looks like it was constructed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini to be installed in the Vatican.

Crochet TMNT!
Tumblr media
I can't remember when I started these guys. At least as far back as January. But I just got the last one done tonight!
The skin tones are done in Rise colors (or as close as I could get them haha) because these are more like templates or warm-ups. They were always meant to be. What I really want to make someday is detailed Rise versions.
Tumblr media
There are also some size and shape differences because I was adjusting and updating the pattern as I went AND because no two yarns outside of the same brand seem to be consistent with the weight they list lol

We'll see when (and if 😅) I actually get to making Rise versions. But for now, I'm pretty happy with how these lil guys turned out!

If you’re not a knitter then you probably won’t understand exactly how batshit doing this was. That’s fine, but I’ll explain under the cut for anyone who’s interested. The pattern is Guðrún Herdís Arnarsdóttir's modification of Lyle Stafford’s one ring scarf (both are free).
The eye at each end I wrote the pattern for myself based on a design on the cover of the editions of the Lord of the Ring I grew up with (i.e., my dad’s, for whom the scarf was a present).
The scarf is done using a technique called double knitting, which means you’re working both sides of the scarf literally at the same time, carrying two yarns forward and back to alternately knit and purl and alternating which colour you’re using (work the knits with colour A, purl with colour B, swap for the other side). This gives you something which has two sides that are stockinette, but different colours.
The technique allows you to make an identical pattern on both sides by switching which colour you’re using for the knit and purl stitches. The advantage of this is that you end up with the two sides woven together rather than a tube and don’t have to carry the yarn as with stranded colour work.
The problem with this is when you’re working a non-symmetrical pattern where it matters which way around the writing is. The writing will be the correct way around on one side, but backwards on the other side.
Guðrún’s modification fixes this, but the trade-off is that because you’re no longer working the pattern the same on both sides you now have four potential stitch combinations instead of two (AB, BA, AA, and BB).
Just to make it even more complicated for my project the pattern colour-coded the stitch combos and uses black and red for two of the combos, but not for what for my scarf would be black-black and red-red. This caused more than one error. I have undone and redone a lot of rows.

Eugene? Twogene? Redgene? Bluegene?
I care not who he is, I want his robe.

So I made a pattern breakdown.
And honestly it looks simple enough to make, so I'm making it.
Edit: i made it.
