also, the conversation between ingo and emmet at the end felt....experimental, in a way, like they both needed reassurance from eachother, ingo reminded emmet more than once of how he doesnt have any memories, and thats hes changed, while emmet just needed that confirmation that he remembered him, even a little, because that was enough for him. it felt like they both were trying to figure our how much the other still cared about them. the answer being: a lot.

Exactly. They're both trying to kind of feel out each other. The battle worked as a harsh but efficient way to show that they don't know each other and how much progress they have to make.

Ingo's very much in a 'I need you to understand that I'm not the person I was, and I can't pretend to be that person because I don't know who that person even is'. He doens't want to let Emmet down any more than he already has just by proxy of his situation.

Emmet has actually had an off-camera peptalk with Elesa, where they both sat down, and Emmet was able to cry a bit more about whe predicament, but also to say like 'okay, so he doesn't remember you. He's still ingo though, and we'll get through this. We'll get to know him'. They've spent five years learning how to live and move on past hard times, and what is this but just another one of those in a sense? But yeah, Ingo having any memory of Emmet is just amazing and brilliant and more than Emmet had hoped for at that point.

And of course, Ingo is more of who he once was than Ingo really realizes.

I really wanted the Palmer-Volkner interactions to feel like closure, but for the Emmet-Ingo one to remain open-ended and uncertain.

Mechanukkah night 3: BURN-E

The third night of @simplyender​‘s Hanukkah robot movie watch party, and today we watched what is unarguably the best Pixar movie about a robot: that’s right, we’re talking about BURN-E.

BURN-E is a harrowing tale about the unending pressures that life puts on our shoulders. It has a lot to say about the state of the world, conveying stark messages about work-life balance, abandonment, and climate change.

In the film, the titular BURN-E is tasked with replacing a broken running light on the hull of the starship Axiom after it gets broken off by some unimportant incidental characters. We see his subordination to SUPPLY-R, his sassy boss who won’t see past the unavoidable mistakes that cause BURN-E to lose the replacement lights twice. The imagery of BURN-E travelling through the perfectly shaped tunnels at high speed is an obvious metaphor for the dehumanisation of workers within a company where they are treated as parts of a machine rather than individual people. This is compounded by BURN-E’s abandonment by the ship after he is locked out, reflecting that even the hardest worker cannot expect fair treatment or payment under capitalism.

The movie ends with BURN-E’s realisation after the ship lands back on Earth (i.e. post-revolution) that the work he was doing was actually not relevant to the greater goals of society.

Overall a very powerful film, definitely my favourite Pixar flick, would highly recommend.

On the BURN-E disk there was this obscure DVD extra called WALL-E which we watched as well. It was okay. It expands upon the incidental characters from BURN-E. Ender made a genius edit to the movie and you can watch our reaction to that here.

It's really interesting and hard trying to capture how Ingo is feeling right now. Because he has a home and a family, and that's a good thing! But also it's a bad thing in the sense that it's somethign keeping him here, and also that for those five years, people missed him.

last movie/tv show: normally it would be The Same Fuckig Movie again but over the past few days ive been having some spiderverse watch parties with some friends of mine! although due to time constraints we've pretty much only been able to watch it in 30-minute chunks which is objectively the funniest way to absorb a new movie spicy/savory/sweet?: i've been trying to build up my spice tolerance for a while lol but i haven't really had as much of a chance to practice as i'd like since my mom and brother don't really like spicy things. so i'd say both sweet and savory! relationship status: taken lol. hi honey current obsession: [gesturing vaguely at my icon and my top tags and the multitude of rambling discord analysis posts and so on] gee i wonder what it could be last google search: this would dox me lol so im not sharing this was a lot of fun, thanks emme!! i tag @simplyender @shoutaroukaneda and @boccadorata. you don't have to do this if you don't want to though!
