Dear BSZ team,

I'd like some help finding some old Sims 3 church objects listed on the MTS wiki religious page. There are two sets: "Candle "sales" stand, organ, stained glass windows" and "Crosses, altar, bench, baptismal font, church bell". The links are bad and don't work even on the wayback machine. But I can't find these items anywhere on the new site! I tried searching "church" and "kirche", but no luck.

We're happy to help and dig through the archives. That works faster if we have a picture, a link to a preview e.g. from a CC Updates blog, the name of the creator or maybe the year it was released.

And it's sadly true, the majority of stuff on the old page didn't make it to the new one. There were literally thousands of files from almost 20 years of CC creation. Not all will be missed. But if you miss something we'll do our best to dig it out again.

Jon Sims Spotify Playlist Explained

I was gonna make this post regardless of whether anyone even remotely interacted with prev. post but two (count 'em, 2) people said I should, so I am.

I'm explaining some (not all, there's too many songs for that) of my song choices for my Jon Sims music playlist that is focused on his narrative. This is gonna be long.

Let's start with the first song on the playlist, marking the beginning of Season 1 (I sectioned it into seasons, by the way.)

Season 1:

Swan Lake, Op. 20 Act 1: Introduction - No.1, Scene.Allegro giusto (A.K.A The Swan Lake introduction song).

I think that Jon's narrative and the Black Swan narrative are extremely similar. For those who haven't seen the movie Black Swan, the story is about a young woman, Nina, who becomes obsessed with perfecting the duality of portraying the White Swan and the Black Swan. She essentially destroys herself in pursuit of her darker side, a side that was brought out by her dance director. I think if you put Jon Sims in this situation, he would act the same as her. Both individuals are desperate to be seen as competent and perfect and there is something to be said about transformation and the pain of transforming yourself into a being that can no longer revert back to purity. There is only black, but there is also perfection.

Spellbound - Siouxsie and the Banshees

The lyrics, the goddamn lyrics. Just the entirety of the archives, they are all caught in the spell, the web of games, and the dance. They have to dance along or else they'll get hurt. I also think Siouxsie songs have a very TMA-esque sound to them in general, in that these songs could fit in my film adaptation of TMA (the one I'm making in my mind constantly).

Season 2:

Let It Happen - Tame Impala

Like I said, my mind has been conjuring up a TMA film adaptation since I first started listening and this song would definitely play in a scene with all the avatars speaking "let it happen" to Jon. I also love how the song talks about something trying to get out of the narrator's body, something that they can't fight against much longer, because it's closer and closer and it will get out. Jon Sims, as the closest thing to an important person, could be said to be the capsule for the Eye. And all of the other avatars know this, because they're the same, but Jon refuses to let it happen. He can't give up. He doesn't want to give in. Eventually, he does, but his struggle to maintain humanity causes him pain and suffering and a coma. Should've just let it happen, bud.

Boys Don't Cry - The Cure

Literally the most S2 Jon song. The narrator says he's gone too far, he's laughing at the hysterics, he's at a cliff's edge of emotions, and he wants other's forgiveness but it's far too late and he knows it's all gone to shit. Jon, at the height of his paranoia, knew it was wrong to stalk and interrogate and suspect nearly every single one of his friends, but forgiveness was never in the cards anyway, he knew that. He just needed to know he wasn't gonna fucking die. His friends and their emotions came second, and that's what tore them apart.

Season 3:

Your Body, My Temple - Will Wood (For Camp Here & There)

Not really a Jon song, so much as it is about Jon from Elias's POV. The song features a narrator who is viewing the object of their affection with religious fervor. They speak about how they'd die at the object's hands if only to have their name on their final breath. The main line as well, "your body, my temple," highlights how the narrator views the object as a holy spectacle, assigning divinity to them, even when it is not wanted. Elias certainly assigned godhood to Jon and his expression of love and admiration bordered on worship, or, arguably, was worship. After all, Jon was the harbinger of the new world. The man who brought in fear in all its glory and gave Elias his throne. Worthy of worship? I think so.

Cat People (Putting Out Fire) - David Bowie

S3 Jon was a man putting out fire with gasoline, no question about it. He went forward and met various dangerous avatars just for the chance at learning more and more about the new world he was wrapped up in. Some of these lyrics also scream Jon Sims. For example, "See these eyes so green / I can stare for a thousand years / Just be still with me / You wouldn't believe what I've been through." The narrator, additionally, sees himself as a monster of sorts, the kind that people look away from. There is a passion so fiery in his eyes that it makes them look red, and then people close the blinds on him. S3 was the season where Jon was just beginning to understand his abilities, and the people surrounding him hated them. It made him other. It made him something to be feared.

Season 4:

Chin Music For The Unsuspecting Hero - Foster The People

The opening lyrics to this are literally the most S4 Jon Sims lyrics I've ever heard in my entire miserable life. "Today I walked through the door and fell down on my floor / Got all of my papers out and read them." Which is then followed by the chorus, with another round of Jon lyrics: "Where are my friends now? / They're not around when I need them / I cannot pretend / Yeah, I find myself against all the odds again." The narrator follows up the first chorus with lyrics talking about how they have to wake up and go to work, get screamed at, go home to sleep, and scream at their god that they're doing what they can. This is just so S4 Jon moving through the motions like a ghost, wondering where his friends have gone, the people he could trust. They are all gone. He'll never see them again. He's all alone. Basira sees him as a weapon, Melanie is far too angry to be polite to anyone anymore, Daisy is a shell of herself, Tim is dead, Sasha is dead, and Martin might as well be dead. Tragic!

All I Think About Now - Pixies

Like the one above, but a bit less sad. Not really. This song is all about staying stuck in the past and wondering if going back to the beginning would allow the narrator to find another way. Reminiscing on the happier times, lamenting on how happiness is nonexistent now. Trying to thank the people from the past. Once again: tragic!

Season 5:

I start off S5 with a different season break song. The playlist is sectioned off with a different Swan Lake song. S5 starts with:

Starman - David Bowie

I've always imagined this as the outro song for 160. There is a starman (Eye) waiting in the sky and he would really love to meet Jon. This world is theirs now. They don't want it to end, not really. It's too beautiful.

Komm, Susser Tod - Arianne (For Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion)

Now. This is one of the most Jon Sims songs ever. The narrator is crushed to see that their actions have let so many people down, but they know that by killing themselves, or leaving forever, their world might turn out better. Of course, this isn't true. The world is ending either way. Regardless, they wish to go back in time and fix things, trust again, love again. Very MAG200. The world is tumbling down, returning to nothing, and the narrator believes it's all their fault. Their love is worth nothing. They have nothing in the world. Except, maybe, Jon had his own love that mattered most. It helped. A bit.

Gilded Lily - Cults

This is one of the last few songs and it hit me so hard the first time I heard it, honestly. The narrator knows it was, in some way, their fault for not seeing things as clearly as they should've. The chorus repeating "Haven't I given enough?" remains as one of my top Jon lyrics. He gave so much to stop these powers from spreading, from infecting other worlds with their fear and destruction. No one person should have to do that. He was young, really, in the grand scheme of things. There was no instruction manual.

There's also a line here that is very JonMartin: "Always the fool with the slowest heart / But I know you'll take me with you / We'll live in spaces between walls." I really do truly hope the narrative was kind to them and they're living somewhere else, living in spaces between walls.

Maxis ehehe. I used to be an alpha girly but the jarring difference between my sims and their surroundings while in regular game mode made me switch (that and also poly count).

Sometimes, depending on the sim and what's going on in their lives. For Safya I do because in my mind she regularly runs (even when I don't have the time to actually do it in game) and for Alfonso because sometimes he gets too muscly, otherwise not really.

I low key don't, Gshade does most of the work. I religiously use Gunthermunch's lithium for CAS pics (also use it for gameplay pics tho I've been getting into Waves shader cause is very bright and colorful!) When I'm feeling inspired I like to bring in the background color with a soft edge brush and maybe throw in some sparkles in PS.

What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? 

I've heard absolute wonders about TS3's late night and showtime so a mix between those two should be very fun! Plus it would enhance the city lifestyle gameplay imo.

I started playing video games with a demo of The Sims Life Stories when I was 7 (didn't have internet at the time to look for anything else and played it for over 2 years as I didn't speak english and thus didn't complete the objectives), expanded on to Sims 1 and 3, SimCity and RPG maker shit and stayed that way until I got an actual PC (early adulthood). Have played the Elder Scrolls religiously (except Oblivion, we don't talk about that game in this household), all of the mainline Witcher games, Assassins Creed Origins and Odyssey, all of the mainline Fallout games (including the first ones but excluding 76, if you count that mess as a main game), Cyberpunk, Horizon: ZD, Stardew Valley, the Batman games, a bunch of RPGs (BG, Divinity, Disco Elysium, Darkest Dungeon, Pathfinder, Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, etc.), the Hitman trilogy, the miserable shitshow that are the Pathologic Games, the Metro franchise, Dishonored, the Bioshock series, Mafia, Subnautica (or at least tried lol), Sleeping Dogs, GTA (all of them from the third up), RDR2, a bunch of SV clones, the Yakuza series, Far Cry 3 and 4, Zelda: BotW, Cities Skylines and many others I don't remember right now lol

But sims games will always be my favorite (even though I haven't actually played for a while, being stuck in a loop of creating sims and building lots) and I always have at least one of them installed.

1. What’s your favourite sims death?

I always thought Death by Flies was particularly brutal and acted as a good incentive to not let your slobs get too... slobby. I am glad they brought it back for Sims 4.

2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

I consider myself to be pretty strictly maxis match. It just makes the game feel like its own world, instead of ours. Though, I do like to use makeup and eye from alpha creators. Plus my game barely runs on my poor laptop, so alpha cc is kind of like a forbidden fruit for my game.

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?

I have a mod that makes it so sims don't gain muscle or weight at all. Though, the majority of my sims have their weight set to like 75% ish and I still think they look too skinny...

4. Do you use move objects?

Unplayable otherwise.

5. Favorite mod?

I swear by roBurky's Meaningful Stories Mod and weerbesu's UI Cheats Extension. If I had to play with only the bare minimum of mods, these would be the two that I pick.

When I was a kid, I played the MySims games, MySims Agents, specifically. When I went to go look up more Sims games, I found Sims 2 and had my mom buy Sims 2 Seasons. I did not realize it required the basegame until it was too late.

I say it like aLIVE. I guess in my mind it's like LIVE television or LIVE streaming a game. It makes sense in my brain at least.

It is illegal to make me choose. Though, I might make a post soon that just a bunch of random sims I have made in CAS and a brief description of their stories I never played out. Stay tuned.

Ever since I started playing Sims, I have always made a simself. Though, when I was younger, the sim was like a projection of what I wanted to look like and now my simself is what I look like. For the most part. He needs some updating.

Probably Creative, Art Lover and Perfectionist for Sims 4 traits. In Sims 3, probably Artistic, Couch Potato, Cat Person, Perfectionist and Supernatural Fan. That about sums me up.

This would be easier to ask my LEAST favorite color would be the true black swatch because half of the hairs just look gray. Favorite? Not really any, depends on the sim but most of my sims have the blue-black hair color.

No, but I do own a plumbob headband for when me and my girlfriend dressed up as Bella and Mortimer a few years ago.

1. What’s your favourite sims death? Cowplant, hands down

2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match? For the longest time I was strictly Maxis Match but recently I've been way more Maxis Mix and I'm loving it

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? Nah I let it happen!

4. Do you use move objects? Religiously, I cannot build without it. Routing be damned!

5. Favorite mod? BBB, I cannot play this game without it. I also get ornery if I don't have UI cheats extension and more CAS columns.

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got? I was on the Sims 4 bandwagon from day 1, so Outdoor Retreat.

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing? Living. You've got build, buy, and live, at least that's how my brain rationalizes it.

8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? I'm obsessed with all of my rpg oc sims (Ariss, Katya, Nat, Kai, Calista, etc), but probably my favorite sim-sim, well that's hard too. I really love my Simeon Silversweater makeover, and Rhiannon Reinhardt is prob my fave original sim.

11. Which is your favorite EA hair color? Idk prob black or dark brown, so many of the other swatches look unnatural to me. I like the fun colors though, esp the lighter blue/cyan-y swatch.

It seems every time I actually get into gameplay (which is rare in itself) something (a patch) comes along and breaks everything to the point where I can't anymore and I lose love for it all over again.

25. What expansion/game/stuff pack is your favorite so far? It's really hard to say... I've been excited for each one of them then disappointed in each one of them lmfao what a mood. I gotta say I was really pleasantly surprised by Werewolves, and HSY exceeded my expectations, even though both had their fair share of disappointments. I don't think I really have a favorite overall though (which is def a side effect of... not actually playing the game, lmao). But those two actually got me playing the game and that's saying something.

Martin has never seen Jon drunk before. In fact, he still hasn’t seen Jon drunk. If he had to describe Jon’s current state, it would be similar to his own: “merry”, maybe shading into “tipsy.” Halfway through his second glass of wine at the Institute holiday party, and just starting to go loose and talkative. Certainly more relaxed than Martin’s ever seen him, and he can finally maybe believe Tim and Sasha’s stories about the Jon who worked in research with them, who actually allowed himself to have fun once in a while.

To Martin’s surprise, Jon’s idea of “fun” tonight seems to be perching on the arm of Martin’s chair and expounding on the myriad traditions and religious practices that were pillaged by Christianity in the development of their particular solstice festival. Fortunately the pub’s cozy aesthetic includes the armchair Martin’s sitting in, so Jon’s not in too much danger of losing his perch despite being slightly wobbly and waving his wine glass dramatically to illustrate why Christmas is basically Saturnalia with less gladiator fighting.

Martin doesn’t mind the monologue; he always feels a bit awkward at big parties, which is why he’s sat in the back of the pub in the first place, and he quite enjoys when Jon goes off on a tangent about some highly specific area of knowledge. It’s usually something interesting that Martin has never really thought about, and he can even ask questions without Jon seeming incredulous that he doesn’t already know the answer, which he tends to do when Martin asks something about reference styles or how to access research journals. It’s actually quite nice.

And yes, maybe Martin is also sort of enjoying the woody scent of Jon’s cologne and the way the wine has sent a flush across his cheeks, but nobody needs to know about that.

“Of course,” Jon says, “The use of evergreen trees in worship dates back far before the first Christian—whoops!”

That last as he slides off the armrest, his full weight landing sprawled across Martin’s thighs. Martin isn’t sure what’s more startling: the fact that his boss is now sitting in his lap, or the fact that he just heard Jonathan Sims say “whoops.” It’s a close run thing, he thinks. Jon wriggles as he tries to sit upright, and Martin feels the blood rushing—to his face, mercifully, as he goes what must be a brilliant shade of red.

“Oh bloody hell—” Jon mutters as he continues flailing, and then somehow Martin’s hand finds itself resting in the small of Jon’s back to support him. Martin has no idea how; he certainly wouldn’t have done it.

“It’s fine!” he hears someone say. “We, uh, we can share if you like. It’s a big chair!” He’s really not sure who just said that, because Martin knows he definitely wouldn’t have invited his boss to continue sitting in his lap—in full view of all their colleagues���regardless of how nice the curve of Jon’s lower back feels to touch.

And all right, maybe he’s a bit more tipsy than he thought he was. Maybe they both are, because Jon doesn’t pull away or stand up, instead he says:

“If you’re sure?”

“Sure!” Martin says, squeezing over to make space on the chair cushion. It’s not much space—it’s a big chair, but Martin’s a big guy—but it’s enough for Jon to scoot into so he’s no longer sitting directly on Martin’s thighs. His legs are still stretched out over Martin’s, though, as if he were a sentient footstool, and Martin’s hand is still resting in the small of his back. Jon appears perfectly comfortable, leaning back against the armrest and taking another sip of his miraculously unspilled wine.

Martin’s not sure that “comfortable” is the word for how he feels, and tomorrow will probably be a whole new world of embarrassment—he can already imagine what Tim will say. For now, though, he decides to just relax and enjoy the extremely odd situation he finds himself in, as Jon picks up his train of thought:

“As I was saying, the Vikings and the Saxons both considered trees to be objects of worship…”

I dont get the sims franchize. Everything they create causes problems. 

HOW IS THE SIMS A LIFE SIMULATOR WHEN PEOPLE ARENT REPRESENTED

1. it should not take over 6 or 7 years to add more skin tones when it takes cc creators way less time

2. More afro textured hair should have been added from the get go and should not have been as offensive looking as they are/were  

3. Skin Tones should not be released if they are splotchy; they should have pushed back the update or had a separate update and tell the community that they are having issues. EA is a billion dollar company. They have the ability to hire more people to make sure what they create is high quality, but they dont.

4. more research should have been done about Japanese culture, because the sims team ignorantly added aspects of colonialism in the pack and had to remove it 

5. Why the fuck do the wood colors never match. If they are going to add more swatches, make sure that all of objects, walls, and walls have the same wood tones

6. THEY BROKE THE CC WINDOWS AND DOORS

I have a question how hard something would be to make for someone who has very little idea how to mod but can follow tutorials if I'm pointed at them: I have a low-tech religious 'hood, where everyone gets married off with the hacked arc. They should then go and try for baby once a day, which I've been simulating with the casual woohoo from ACR (ie, they must like each other at least enough to pass that test). However, now I have a completely gay sim, so that won't work. (continued in next ask)

(cont.): Is there a way to create an interaction that is a “try for baby” (in bed), that will be accepted if they have, say, at least +20 STR. Extra-plus of it gives a bit of positive relationship gain if the STR is over +60 or so, and a bit of a negative one if it’s between +20 and +60?

I started trying to write an explanation of how you could go about it but honestly… it’s not a quick-and-easy tutorial to write, especially because there’s a few design decisions you might need to trial-and-error your way through (for example, TFB doesn’t use simple STR/LTR checks - it’s modified STR/LTR checks, which means you might want to experiment a bit to see what values actually get you the results you want). I tried another time to write enough to at least give some guidance for what you might want to do, and I can direct you to my resources page which has tutorials/guides/references that can be useful in BHAV modding, but for more step-by-step guidance I might have to ask you to step off anon so we can move this to a chat.

Also, while this mod isn’t impossible to make, there’s a caveat: if you really want this to be a new, completely separate interaction you will need to edit the pie menu of every single bed you want to have this interaction because beds don’t have a shared pie menu. A better idea might be to replace the TFB interaction that already exists to lessen the STR/LTR requirements, and that’s what I’ll be explaining how to do.

To make the interaction appear more easily, you need to edit the “Social - Try For Baby - TEST” semiglobal (delete the LT/ST love requirements (remember to make sure everything is still linked properly!), lower the minimum values for the STR/LTR checks (use the PJSE wizard - the hammer and wrench button on the right - to change the topmost arguments from Const whatever to literal something-lower-than-whatever-the-value-of-the-old-constant-was)). To change the rejection threshold, edit “Social - Try For Baby - Set Result” (you’ll see a lot of lines that say “local 3 > literal (some number)” or “local 2 > literal (some number). At the very least you’ll likely want to drop those numbers to something lower so sims are less likely to reject). You can import these BHAVs into a new package for editing by selecting File > New and then Tools > Object Tools > Import Semi Globals.

Hopefully that was at least somewhat helpful?
