Choices, Choices

I could stuff my face. Make myself a huge serving of fries and a vegan burger. Heck, I could go buy some vegan cheese and make it a double. Top it with some caramelized onions and go to town. Drench the entire thing in a borderline nauseating amount of ketchup, sneak the entire ensemble to my room, and devour it in private.

But then I look down at my thighs. These thighs that are always too big, too thick, too chunky. I look and I notice they are starting to become smaller. They are starting to become almost likeable. And I think to myself, "is it worth it?" Are the burgers and fries worth it? I even have some vegan chicken nuggets in the freezer. But is it worth it? Is it worth shoveling all the food into my mouth and wanting more and more and more, never having enough, never being satisfied? Is it worth watching all my hard work unravel? Is it worth the nonexistent energy levels and depression? Is it worth the rapid weight gain?

Right before I turn 24 in 3 months, will it be worth it when I step on the scale and see that I still weigh just under 160? Will it be worth it when I break down into tears because my birthday is tomorrow and I am still fat? Will it be worth it when I see where I could have been if I had just lost one single, measly pound a week every week for 3 months?

Will it be worth it when it's my birthday party and I'm thumbing through my closet trying to find something to wear? Will it be worth it when I skip past the beautiful dresses and cute crop tops and go for something bland and boring because it's the only thing that fits?

I have another choice.

I could decide the better way to spend my evening hours is to go for a walk with my dog then come back home to boot up my laptop, play the Sims 4, and drink water until it's time for me to go to bed. I could even tidy up my room and put on a cute pajamas set before I settle down to play.

Tomorrow morning, when I wake up, I don't know how much I'll weigh. I don't know how flat my stomach will look. But I'll know it's better than today. I have my estimated calorie count to prove it. I have my steps count to prove it. I have my known water intake to prove it. I can go to bed tonight knowing that no matter how I look tomorrow or what the scale says, I lost weight. Sure, maybe water might throw the scale off and make it seem like no progress was made. But I know that if everyday were to look like today, I will be on track to skinny. The day to day fluctuations will eventually even out and I'll see the progress sooner or later.

After all, true progress is not measured from one day to the next, but over time. Weeks, months, years.

It's during the late fall and early winter season when I'm considering wearing a chunky sweater. Do my legs look small or not?

It's during Christmas season when I'm looking in the mirror after pulling on an oversized sweater and impractically short shorts, checking if my legs look small enough this year for the outfit to be adorable, or if they're too big and I'm going to have to wait to try again the following year.

It's next summer when I'm picking out a swimsuit to wear. Do I automatically reach for a bikini because I've reached my ugw a long time ago and that's the new normal, or do I still have to wear my worn out one piece to cover up as much as possible?

That is true progress, long term success. And that is built during the day to day decisions. That is built by deciding to go for a walk instead of binge. That is built by performing actions on a daily basis, not just hopping on a scale from time to time or checking in the mirror. The truth is, these daily actions are what drives the scale readings and the mirror's image. My success tomorrow is determined by my actions right now, not tomorrow morning during my weigh in.

i wanted to make a fun legacy with some silly rules to shake up the traditional goal based legacies! hope you enjoy it!

general rules:

- must complete aspiration, get to level ten of career, and complete extra rules to complete gen

- can use money cheats (if you want it to be traditional legacy, start with 1800 simoleans, if not, download a nice house and have starting funds)

- physical style/dress sense are suggestions, as you can have your sims look however you want

- everyone in household must have an excellent holiday for the holiday that correlates with the gen. if the holiday didnt come with seasons, add it to the calender!

gen 1: new years

as the first holiday of the year, youre ready to get your life, body, and mind into shape!

- traits: active, dog lover, perfectionist

- aspiration: bodybuilder

- career: writer (author)

- must always be dressed “fancy”

- silvery/platinum blonde hair

- max out fitness and writing skill. reach level five of wellness

- if you have the packs, include vintage glamour or luxury party in multiple rooms of your house

- whenever you are tense, must do yoga to cool off

- have a dog with active trait, go for jogs with them often

- only eat foods that you deem as healthy

- visit every gym lot in game (could do just premade ones and/or can add your own)

Things that happened in my Ace Attorney Sims 4 game while my husband was out of town for a weekend:

Freelance artist and single dad Phoenix Wright moved into a hovel with his teen sister Maya and his young daughter Trucy

He made enough money selling forgeries to put himself through law school but he didn’t have to pay a cent because he got multiple scholarships so instead he put a second story on the house so the girls didn’t have to share a room anymore

Have I mentioned he’s such a good dad??? Like actually. My heart.

He is clumsy, cheerful, and neat. For stress relief he cleans the toilet and rides his bike. He is insanely charming and honestly he’s pretty much as OP as it is possible to get while being a lovable doofus?

Maya works weeknights at a burger joint in addition to going to high school. She is always tired, ALWAYS hungry, but her grades are improving. Soon college! I don’t know what to have her major in lmao you can’t be a spirit medium in this game. Maybe a magician??? Idek.

While getting his law degree (with honors!) Phoenix went on two spectacularly love-struck dates with Dahlia Hawthorne, with whom he had his first woohoo... and the next day she immediately broke up with him, turned into a vampire, and literally gave him a box full of dog poo (for which he was GRATEFUL!?!. I shit you not)

On Phoenix’s first date with Dahlia, the bartender was Klavier Gavin. I fell out my chair. I hadn’t even played his character yet.

Dahlia now lives in a castle with her evil vampire fiancée, their cat, and a random ad exec who pays the bills and lets them drink his blood sometimes

The Von Karmas and Miles Edgeworth are also in town. I murdered a sim and gave them her mansion lmao

Franziska is still in high school, where she befriended Apollo Justice and Kay Faraday and formed a debate league. She was briefly a lifeguard but the hours got too intense and she practically had a mental breakdown so she quit to do schoolwork

Von Karma is supposed to be evil but mostly he’s just too old and tired. Their butler disappeared??? Suspicious

Phoenix is getting fat because he doesn’t have time to work out anymore and all he eats are microwave dinners. I didn’t even know that could happen. He has extreme dad bod. On Christmas I tried to get him to change out of his sweatpants and into a holiday sweater and he literally would not

Miles just got into college (it was way too much work to do him and Phoenix at the same time because omg the college shit is So Involved lmao) and due to the Trauma of Dahlia living in his house and beating the shit out of him, he is now living in the Wright’s guest room on a Murphy bed with his Pomeranian

He and Phoenix are still “just friends” because Miles is flirtation repellant and I’m gonna throw Kristoph Gavin at Phoenix first but trust me, once they are both settled into their law careers they are getting EXTREMELY MARRIED

Miles regularly helps Trucy with her homework and is learning to cook so. That’s adorable

He also got a fucking GAMING scholarship because he’s a nerd and he has to play in tournaments to pay his tuition. On New Years he did homework for like 6 hours, drank an entire pot of coffee and won a gaming chair in his league game. He has yet to sleep a single complete night.

Not to be outdone, Phoenix regularly collapses from exhaustion. Sometimes because Dahlia drank his blood, but usually because he worked an 8 hour day then came home and did more work, laundry, cleaning, parenting... etc

Phoenix met Hannibal Lecter while taking Edgeworth’s dog to the vet. He offered him legal representation.

Yes of course I made a Hannibal sim. He’s currently a pastry chef and his house is GORGEOUS - he murdered a nice family and took their modern cliff-side masterpiece. After some redecorating, that shit is my dream house. Will and Abigail are also there, of course. And Winston.

Next I’m going to make Mia so Dahlia can Murder her. Time for more drama.

More Things I’m Doing to Relax During Social Distancing

My original post can be found here. Yeah, I mention some things from there here again, but mostly because they really are helping

-I am working with my mum to sew masks for our family, but I’m making mine with pretty fabric- usually left overs from one of my other sewing projects. (Yes, that relaxes me, it’s a small thing I can control during this time of things I cannot control, as well as taking up time and giving me bonding time with my mum.)

-Working on my main sewing project. It’s a long skirt that’s mid-shin with a floral fabric that has a black background but flowers of different shades of purple and blue. It’s very me, dark but bright and soft. It’s cotton fabric, so it’ll be cool and light weight for summer, unlike half of my other skirts those lengths

-Warm showers before bed, with lavender scented body wash. Lavender is a scent that naturally relaxes you and makes it easier to sleep.

-A few yoga stretches before bed. Mostly because I’m dealing with a lot of joint and muscle pain from chronic illness, and I’ve realized it helps with pain, making it so I don’t wake up in pain

-Recently read a post that said something along the lines of “for people who follow specific aesthetics, what draws you to it is how it’s romanticized. You need to also romanticize your own life, even the smallest things.” 

-My thing has been, 1. a little dark academia 2. a little cottage core 3. a lot of studio ghibli

-Going back to those videos I mentioned in my last post, the ones that are very aesthetic, watching someone do something they enjoy with soft music in the background, I’m doing a little of that in my regular life. This includes drawing and sewing especially, because I’m trying to learn those skills

-So I’m playing a lot of lo-fi and studio ghibli and other piano music

-Enjoying other sounds, like my long nails clicking on my favorite ceramic mugs, or anything my nails touch. The sound of my keyboard keys clicking quickly because I’m a fast typer. Pencil scratching on paper when I draw, or my pen on paper when I journal. Yeah, just straight up ASMR but in real life

-A little romanticizing for my clean room, like my reading chair my neighbor gave me with the afghan my mum made hanging over the back. I’ve wanted a wing back chair for ten years and I finally have one! Also it looks like that wing back chair from Sims 4 Cats and Dogs, which I almost cried over when I saw it in the trailer a few years ago and promised my Sim self would have one in their home. Or how nice my desk looks, or the colors of my Christmas lights. Or how soft and comfy my bed is.

-I have a bunch of crystals I got from Amazon a year and a half ago hanging in my front of my window. I have a north facing window, but in mid April through late August I get light at the “golden hour” in my window. It shines on the crystals and casts rainbows on my walls and furniture. I call it the rainbow hour. I improved my depression last year, and it brings me peace this year too. The rainbows started appearing this past week. I put on my favorite over-sized sweater and stood in the middle of my room so I could see the rainbows on my body

-I’ve been opening my curtains every day for this, which is also helping. The indirect sunlight helps with any depression and lightens my room without hurting my eyes

-Certain smells. I put my favorite scrunchies in a box I sprayed a little perfume in. I don’t wear perfume, but my mum and sister do and the smell of it soothes me and has for a few years now. The smell of freshly clean sheets and clothes

-Romanticizing things is making it a lot easier to work on self care and doing it more.

-Treating myself to “special things”. There’s a problem with this whole “use nice things only on special occasions” that I only recently realizes is just plain dumb.

-So I pull out my nice tea pot and make some tea. Or use some of my nice loose leaf tea. Wearing a nice dress or skirt. Doing something special with my hair and trying a new style even though no one will see it. My hair’s finally getting long enough to do some interesting stuff.

-putting lotion on my hands before bed. I usually can’t stand the feeling of lotion on my hands because of how sensitive to texture and how disturbed by greasy things I am. But frequent hand washing can dry out your hands and cracked hands are more likely to pick up infection. I recently found a lotion I like that works really well, so I put it on before bed.

This list is getting long and I’m getting a little tired, so I’ll end this here. There’s a little next bit, but I wrote it earlier in the post. It’s things I’m struggling with but I’ll leave it under the read more line.

Things I am Struggling With

Like with my last post, it wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t share what’s bothering me

-I haven’t used my cane in a month. (if you’re seeing one of my posts for the first time, hi, I’m blind, I have a white cane with a red tip for when I leave my house). The realization that I’ve had zero reason to take it with me is upsetting. It’s a part of me, but when I moved it and felt how dusty it was I got a little sad and frustrated.

-Low spoon days. With executive functioning working again, thanks to ADHD meds, I’m doing a lot more during the day and my body and chronic fatigue is feeling it. I wake up tired and achy after spending the previous day doing things. It’s been a roller coaster of high and low energy and the constant urge to do things.

-Yeah, a few issues spending so much time with a specific family member. The other two are okay. 

-Sleeping. This is called The Late Night Writing Advice Blog for a reason. I work on it at night when my brain is most active

-I’m getting a little better about the eating. It comes down to ADHD, executive function, and that I don’t receive hunger signals normally until I feel bad. Also my dad makes dinner out of meats I can’t eat without stomach pain, especially steak.
