what do you think little aduri’s first impression of avrusa and sinderion was…
"And this," says Sinderion, leaning with a grin across the shoulder-carriage bench, "is Asplenium regelliam."
The toddler on Avrusa's copious lap stares, cross-eyed and scholarly, at the sprig of green tickling her nose. Then she squishes her face with a thoughtful gurgle.
"Yes, indeed," says Sinderion with utmost solemnity, "it's named for the estimable Chivius Regelliam, whose work has proven invaluable to we who crawl through hedgerows in his wake. Very good."
"Don't listen to him, sprout," says Avrusa, raising her eyebrows. "Never crawled through a hedgerow in his life. I did all the field work." She bounces her new charge, winning a giggle, then peers with mock severity into her face. "What's A. regelliam in the vernacular?"
Little Aduri gives her a rapt look. Then she reaches up to pull Avrusa's lip.
"Ouch," says Avrusa, amused. "Nirnroot, that's right—ouch."
The shoulder-carriage jostles through the City of Gems on bright and crowded streets, bobbing around foot-traffic like a boat. It has windows. Avrusa tries not to look at them. Outside, the city brims with light and noise: the rattle of pushcarts, the sizzle of frying scrib, the shouts of the chairmen bearing them from her father's squalid palace to the rooms they've rented over the market-square. Not cheap. Nor is the chairmen's fee—but the child can't walk, Avrusa reasons, and Sinderion will be two hundred and ninety next week.
And her father, she thinks, bitter as wormwood, has willed the sprout some pocket-change.
Sinderion, replacing the nirnroot in his bottomless bag, looks sidelong at her. Then—with that awkward, punctilious insight of his—he takes her hand.
"I'm all right," Avrusa rasps, then clears her throat. "Will be." She shakes her head, struck with amazed grief—how suddenly it comes and goes, like the gusts of ash that had once rolled through Ald'ruhn. "He used to keep such a clean house. More than clean."
Her mentor's hands had been lively, once: scribbling notes, sketching lectures in the air, flicking her fingers when she held a pestle wrong. Now they tremble with the simple strain of squeezing her hand. "Orderly?"
"Yes." She looks with bewilderment at the toddler—her half-sister, for gods' sake, two hundred years younger than herself. "And he—n'chow, Sinderion, he was older than you. I just don't understand—"
The shoulder-carriage bucks. Avrusa finds herself doing several things at once: clutching the toddler to her chest, cursing, kicking out a leg to keep Sinderion's bag from flying into him. It crunches. The ungrateful old twig cries out and swats her knee. "You harridan, my retort!"
"Bother your retort—"
"My flasks!"
"Were you planning to brew elixirs," demands Avrusa, righting herself, "here in the sedan—"
Aduri giggles again. Sinderion's grin reappears, as it always does, like an ancient light sputtering on. "Funny, are we?"
Avrusa sets the squirming toddler on her knee. The sprout is scrawny, she thinks with a frown. She smells sour, milky; she'd screamed and kicked the maid who, an hour or so ago, had shoved her at Avrusa with a desperate smile. Avrusa had understood them both. Part of her, she thinks, had wanted to kick something, too—had wanted it ever since she set out, across countless leagues and second-guesses, to fetch home a child she hadn't known existed—
The toddler puts her hand in her mouth. "Bah."
"That's right," says Sinderion, the old cellar-dweller. "Species Plantarum is our art's most inviolable text."
Their new pupil takes her hand from her mouth, studies it academically, then puts it back. Something in Avrusa's chest moves.
"Excelsior," she says gruffly, and tickles her sister's skinny ribs. "I'll read you some."
Aduri laughs. The sound is bright and sweet as a nirnroot's chime.

please i would love to hear more of your thoughts on aduri and avrusa, if there’s any you’d like to share. i adore your interpretation of their story & personalities T—T <3
I'M GLAD... <3
the reason that i love those two so much is that they already have a fairly cohesive story that doesn't need much embroidering. but here's how i've filled in the gaps
avrusa was born and raised in vivec city in the last years of the blight. as a cousin of the eminent ald'ruhn sarethis (who at the time had a high seat in the redoran council) she was brought up in opulence and denied nothing but the affection of her busy mother and father (both wealthy merchant-speculators). she was a bright and impetuous scrib who made so much mischief at home in an effort to keep her parents' attention that they eventually threw up their hands and sent her abroad to study under the best tutors they could afford, the alchemist sinderion being one
(i imagine that sending her out of the country to study was her uncle athyn's idea; he spent his youth in rihad and what he learned there saved his life and his council seat later)
she spent her formative years in skingrad apprenticed to sinderion and looks back fondly on those years as some of the happiest of her life; she lived much more simply with him than she was accustomed to but for the first time in her life she was being treated like a person with ideas worth listening to instead of a novelty to trot out at fancy dinners. under his tutelage she published her first scholarly treatise on the properties of nirnroot. it was well-received. sinderion threw her a party
but as passionate as she was about studying alchemy she found the commercial side of the profession more practical than staying in academia and starving in a cellar her whole life. she was in her twenties when she came back to vivec for good (or so she thought) and opened her alchemy shop wholly on her own drake. by that time the sharmat had been vanquished and the nerevarine—a family friend—was causing a stir in the city of light and magic. no one yet anticipated what would soon happen to vvardenfell so avrusa was very put out when her uncle, at the urging of an ominous letter from the nerevarine, ordered her to shut up shop and insisted that the entire sarethi clan go on "pilgrimage" to the mainland. avrusa tried to argue but athyn would hear none of it so off they went
then the red year happened
in the resulting panic avrusa's immediate family (minus her father, who refused to leave the country) fled to manage their small landholdings in eastmarch. in the wake of such disaster and upset avrusa was expected to set aside her studies and her dreams to help her family till strange soil in a strange land. and so she did. over the years the family dwindled in number and the fortunes of the farmstead fell until avrusa was left alone and impoverished and struggling stubbornly to keep her crops—watered with sarethi blood, sweat, and tears—alive
in an especially lonely and desperate year sinderion showed up on her doorstep. the sudden arrival of her beloved old teacher reminded avrusa of everything she'd given up and ALMOST convinced her to abandon the farm and gallivant off with him to who-knows-where...
...but then she received the news that her estranged father had died and left behind an illegitimate toddler that no one knew what to do with. avrusa took the news in stride and traveled to mournim (along with sinderion) to bring little aduri back home to the farm
this quashed avrusa's aspirations again for a time—raising a child required a steady income, and the farm guaranteed an income steadier than what she'd earn trekking across the country picking nirnroot—but brought joy and purpose back into her life. sinderion stuck around to help with both the farm and with little aduri which gave avrusa some time (and motivation; her old teacher was just as exacting as he'd always been) to pursue the studies she'd long neglected
aduri for her part was raised in a loving if somewhat eccentric home where her own eccentricities—she was a shy child and, like avrusa had been at her age, prone to tantrums and fits of impetuous mischief—were understood. avrusa always found it bitter that she couldn't afford to send aduri away for the sort of education that she herself had enjoyed, particularly when aduri started showing interest in painting, but any money they could spare went to buying pigments and brushes
sinderion left to conduct some "field research" when aduri was thirteen or so. he'd always intended to come back :( flash-forward ten years or so and that’s when i imagine that we meet the sarethi sisters in the game

Hey! It's @nerevar-quote-and-star ✨ I was wondering if you'd tell me about "Blackreach stuff" because I'm crazy and love being teased with possible snelves please? 💕
Helloooo! Good to see you here! <33 Ask game can be found here!
Of course!! The word doc with “blackreach stuff” is basically some plans I have for the blackreach quest in WYGTYA! I am in love with that area, and I plan on spending two chapters there. It’s an important point in my fic because this is where the fellowship gets separated, so we will only have Ravonna and Fenrik (Miraak) for a while! They’ll have a lot of time to bond and open up to each other, because they’ll be, at some point, stuck in Sinderion’s house, overwhelmed by the Falmer outside.
I sadly don't have much about snow elves in this :((( But I have some pivotal moments in Ravvy and Fenrik's relationship in here.
My favourite thing that happens in that crammed house is them opening up and showing each other their scars, and laughing because most of their scars are from stupid things, like Ravonna casting her first telekinesis spell on a cube, launching it in the air and being so distracted by it that it landed right on her forehead, leading to a small scar on the side and Fenrik being a bit too brave once during a storm on a ship (he used to go on fishing trips with his fisherman friends in Atmora) and trying to manually handle the veils in the strong wind, and a rope whipped him good on the side of his neck, cutting him deep enough to leave a scar. They have a good laugh exchanging stories, coming to the wholesome conclusion that scars are beautiful and they tell a story. Then Ravvy will accidentally see some of his more nasty scars from the time he was tortured by the Dragon Cult and she will go insanely mad, saying that she’ll kill and maim whoever did that to him.
Thank you so much for the ask and I'm sorry that it wasn't really the answer you were hoping for.

While exploring the ancient Dwemer city of Blackreach, you find an old journal in one of the homes. It rests on a table next to a crimson nirnroot, and the owner's body. Sinderion's journal mainly talks about the rare variant of herb, but it also recounts the odd Pokemon he's found in the ruins. It looks like he had attempted to make his own Pokedex, instead of using the one published by the College. You've never seen this species in the College's field guide.
"My poor Paras didn't deserve to evolve down in this wretched place. How was I supposed to know it'd turn into this... creature? It hasn't harmed me, but it is no longer the meek Pokemon I met in my travels. It nearly attacked the idle Centurian and activated it! I cannot bear to leave it here, but I fear taking it back to the surface."
You don't know where the creature is now.
Parasight The Glowing Mushroom Pokemon
Parasight are a rare evolution of Paras that only occur in the Dwemer ruin of Blackreach. The poisonous, glowing mushrooms of the ruin take over the host bug. This process leaves it blind and aggressive, similar to the now-native Falmer of the Dwarven ruins. The tendrils growing from the mushroom act as antennae and alert it to sudden changes in the air.
------------------------
As I've said before, I LOVE crossing pokemon over with fantasy settings- its just so easy to slip magical creatures into a magical world. Skyrim/Elder Scrolls has always been a big target for that concept. I have more ideas! But here's the first one I've gotten done- a divergent evolution :3
reblogs/comments/etc appreciated!
if you dont wish to see this stuff, the tag for now will be "the elder scrolls pokedex". subject to change if i come up w somethin better

"Blackreach seems almost endless.. It would be more fascinating to study if it wasn't filled with Charus and blood thirsty Falmer." Lucien sat his bags down and rested inside the alchemist's makeshift refuge. "This Sinderion fellow did a lot to study the crimson nirnroot. Perhaps we should get some samples before we leave?"
Kaidan glanced at the dragonborn, "Keryth?"
The snow elf jerked his head upwards, "Huh? Oh.. yeah. Sure. That would be fascinating.."
"Sorry did I say something wrong again? I know Dwemer are a touchy topic-"
Keryth shook his head and sat down on a chair he found. His ears were pointed slightly downward but his expression remained the same. "I guess it's just a lot to take in really. We found geode veins that provided multiple soul gem samples and the implications unsettle me."
"How so?" Kaidan sat down nearby to pull out a ration.
Lucien hummed in thought, "I suppose the geode veins would make the location ideal for them, considering their automatons run on soul gems. Mostly anyway."
"Mmhm. The most common samples I found were for white souls. Black soul gems are harder to find."
"Right..." Kaidan blinked, "Sorry, I don't know much about enchanting."
"Our souls are black, animals have white souls. Less intelligent beings if you will." Lucien smiled.
"What's that got to do with the Snow Elves then?"
Keryth sighed and curled his cloak around his body, "The Falmer have white souls. Its a theory but..it makes me wonder if the Dwemer purposely made my people to be like cattle to fill soul gems."
Kaidan and Lucien got quiet while they shared a few looks. Lucien frowned and leaned against the stone wall.
"Hard to say, I'm afraid. We know next to nothing about what really happened to them. I can see why such a theory would unsettle you don't get me wrong. I-" Lucien sighed, "I'm sorry friend. Maybe we should get through this place as quick as we can."
"Its okay Lucien, I'll be fine. Just please don't use soul trap while we're down here. That's all I ask." Keryth looked toward the stone slab of a bed behind them and decided to just unfurl his bedroll.
"Course, I'll try my best to remember." Lucien rummaged in his bag for his own bedroll.
"You gonna eat?" Kaidan got next to Keryth, who didn't seem sleepy at all.
"Maybe later. My appetite was lost between seeing mangled corpses and charus hunters bursting from their cocoons."
"Aye. Could tell the noise bothered ya. You did that thing with your arms and made a gagging noise." Kaidan lightly teased.
Keryth sighed while playfully rolling his eyes, "Can't help it. Some noises cause me to just recoil and cringe. Those things are a sensory nightmare for me."
"Perhaps you should summon Inigo later with that spell of yours. He's adept at killing large bugs." Lucien slipped into his roll and got cozy.
"...Maybe. Yeah." He glanced over at his human companions and lightly smiled. "Thanks...for coming with me down here."
"Of course my friend. These ruins are fascinating but don't think I'm having more fun than you. It's more spooky than anything really. Although the giant glowing mushrooms are a nice touch." Lucien chuckled.
Keryth finally laid down. "Yeah.. They're beautiful in their own way."
"Would be nicer to look at if we weren't getting snuck up on every damn second. Speakin of which.. I'll keep watch while you two nap." Kaidan yawned. "Long as I get a turn."
"We'll try to remember, right Keryth?" Lucien looked over and saw the dragonborn had already dozed off from pure exhaustion. "We'll take that as a yes."
