Looking back at Girl Meets World, it will forever irritate me especially for how they handled/treated Angela. Oh this show really hated black women because how do you not only 1.) describe her, one of (correct me if I'm wrong) only few black and MAIN characters of the og show, as a "concept" 2.) have characters show obvious disgust at the small mention of her name 3.) depict her as a homewrecker for a new relationship that, really, shouldn't have ever happened 4.) have her old friends treat her like dirt and her old lover like she is the root of his problems, when there was nothing but positive love there 5.) reuse all the concepts from said previous love story just to elevate the new ship with a yte woman and 6.) compare her to Hurricane Katrina, one of the deadliest hurricanes that caused significant numbers of death, harm, misplacement, and trauma to people, largely of whom were black? Mind you, all these points I mentioned were toward the only main black character of the OG show before the spinoff, and the only, from what I can remember, black female character of the spinoff who didn't even stay long. Not even getting into the racist drama with some of the members on set, but you cannot look me in the eye and tell me that the way the show handled Angela, her story, and her relationship with the other characters + Shawn wasn't fucking disrespectful, you can't because I won't believe you.
#boy meets world#girl meets world#like this show had so many issues (from its depiction of autism to religious intolerance to supporting grooming)#but this was a whole other level#it was especially hurtful as a young black girl to see growing bc i really tried to like this show with its lacking diversity#but coming from watching bmw to this a show from the 90s that depicted a black character better than a 2010s show- u get my point#and its so wrong bc it depicts angela as being the one to end the relationship when all she said in bmw how she#didn't want to see her leaving as a goodbye and there was ambiguous hope for the future#also shoving shawn to be with maya's mom was really unnecessary#not only bc of how it depicted being raised in a single parent household so negatively#but that the only way to solve maya's problems was for her...to have a dad? like that really isn't how it works#i blissfully live in the delulu where angela and shawn came back together once she left europe and he eventually married her#after they graduated college and have a beautiful family together#shawn x angela#don't even get me started on how whenever there was a guest cameo it was met audience applause and happy reactions#but when it was for angela: crickets 😬#back to maya- i feel like it would have been better for her story if shawn didn't marry her mother (and was with angela) and u would see her#hope and wish for the opposite to where it nearly consumes her only to finally be sat down and informed that#even if shawn isn't with your mom he'll still be in your life as a father figure no matter what#i personally feel like that would've been better#but this is largely just s rant so forgive the structure of it al

The worn engine sputtered and clunked. It gave one last screech before it fell silent. The forward momentum kept it rolling for a football field length before coming to a halt. Now dead in the water, you attempted to turn the key in hopes it would turn back over. It didn’t even give a cry at the try. You cursed under your breath and glanced in the rear-view mirror.
Two toddlers happily kicked their feet, entertained by the outside world of rolling plains. One of your sons, Shawn, whined when the movement of the hills were stopped. “Mama!” he called to you and pointed to the outside world.
“Yes, I know, baby boy. Mom’s gotta fix the car and we’ll be back on the road,” you answered and pulled your phone out to call for help.
At the top of the screen, it read no bars. You cursed to yourself again. A bad habit you needed to stop but have yet to do so.
The second son, the eldest by eighteen minutes, whined and shook his empty bottle in your direction. Simon looked at you with pleading eyes. You unbuckled and turned around in your seat. Both of your children were oblivious to what was happening. A simple road trip to see your folks on a surprise visit was going terribly wrong. Clearly.
It took you less than two minutes to fill up his sippy cup with more water to hold him over for now. You patted each child’s knee and gave them a look. “Okay, I need you two to be good. Mama’s going to get out and see what’s wrong with the car, okay?” Both of them looked at you with little thoughts between their innocent eyes.
With a sigh, you slipped out and popped the hood. Off the top of everything, you couldn’t see what was wrong to have this happen in the middle of the nowhere. Not a build or car in sight. Then your phone, no service to call for help. Anyone to drag your beat up car to a mechanic. It’ll cost you leg but at least your car would be working.
After your divorce with your husband, everything has gone downhill from there. The love you once saw in his eyes disappeared during the pregnancy… The man you once loved faded after you gave birth to his children.
He despised how big you grew, especially with twins. Let alone, yes, the mood swings and cravings. Pickles and peanut butter weren’t health but you needed to have them or you’ll start to cry. Not your proudest moment.
The stretch marks. He was absolutely disgusted with them and refused to touch you, even to help bathe when you couldn’t. You had just been spilt in half to birth two children he wanted and your own husband wouldn’t look at you. That hurt. A lot.
You leaned over the engine bay and sucked in your tears at the flashbacks when your life fell apart. You wouldn’t be stuck in this position if it wasn’t for him. It was all his fault.
Nothing flashed to easily fix the issue. You gave a sigh and returned to the drivers seat. All you needed was this day off to sleep in and relax. Except, the world continued to drag you to the deepest pits of hell to suffer.
In the mirror, you smiled with love sparkling in your eyes. Despite everything that has happened over a year ago, you wouldn’t trade the world for those two boys. They are your world, in all honesty. Both of your children went back to entertaining each other with the toys you’ve brought. Doing this for a year and half, you learn a thing or two.
This situation didn’t give you much for options. You looked around the car to see if that could help because you were truly clueless. If it was just you, you could start the long walk to find cell service. Yet with the twins in the back, all you could do was stay and hope for help. Hopefully help does come or you’ll be in deep trouble once night comes. Or the heat that’s starting to build up inside the car.
In a last-ditch attempt, you turned the keys for your car. As much as you wanted to hope for it to suddenly roar back to life, it stayed silent and dead where it had come to rest. Why did this have to happen to you, right here, in the middle of absolutely nowhere?
The driver side door was open to let in a breeze as you checked your phone again. Just the same reaction to your run-down car. Useless.
While the time ticked on by, your sons grew restless, strapped safely in the car. They whined to get out since the car had been stopped for some time. With no sign of rescue in sight, you slipped out of the car and got into the back seat. Both of them reached for you as you unbuckled them from their restraints.
Shawn was the first to be released and stood on weak legs. His twin brother came to his side and gazed out into the hilly plains that surrounded the three of you. Simon tightly clutched his cup as he wobbled away from you. A close eye was placed on the boy while he sought to explore his surroundings.
On the other hand, Shawn stayed at you lowered form and clutched to your hand. When his brother got to far from him though, he left your side to follow him.
All the hairs on back of your neck stood up. You straighten your spine and scanned the surrounding lands for any sight of a possible other person or animal. Yet, there was nothing to be seen this far out. Nor did anything move and catch your attention. The feeling refused to leave and stuck to you like cold honey.
As the feeling dragged on, your heartbeat increase with each passing second. You could hear it, thundering in your ears. You were already moving towards your two exploring children when you hear clicking. Instantly, you snatched your twin sons up and backed towards the car.
Your back hit met with warmth. Live warmth rather than the steel of a car. You spun around, hands occupied by holding Shawn and Simon at the same time. Nothing immediately caught your attention, and that made the dread brewing in your stomach to worsen. It burned you from the inside out as you tried to plan either an escape or to fight whatever threatened you.
When the light caught something in front of you, you truly peered at what could be blocking your path. You gasped and stumbled back, nearly tumbling over your own big feet. Something was standing in front of you, almost invisible to the naked eye. It was when you didn’t even know to look for it.
Tiny hands clutched at your clothing due to your reaction. Shawn was the first to bury his face into your chest to seek protection. Yet, Simon wiggled and squirmed in a way that made it hard to hold him. You couldn’t even look down to give him the famous mom stare to get him to stop it. “Simon, stop moving!” you ordered the eldest twin, but he didn’t take your tone seriously.
Before you could drop him, he slid down your side to the ground. You snatched his wrist before he could run off to gods knows where. The young boy struggled against your firm grip. “Simon, I swear!” But he refused to listen even when you sent the stare directly at him.
It hurt you to do this but this was a dangerous moment. You roughly tugged on Simon’s hand and dragged him away from the camouflaged creature before you. He screamed in frustration and started to hit your hand. “I am your mother! Listen to me, goddamnit.” At a later time, you would hold him close and apologize for your harshness. Yet, with an unknown threat hanging before your sons, you acted in instinct to protect them.
Simon glared his own tiny daggers at you and clawed at your tight grasp. A bruise could appear later but right now, when you didn’t know was standing in front of you. There were a lot more important things to fret about than a bruise.
Like from a comic book or sci-fi movie, a humanoid form waxed into appearance. All the muscles that lined your back tensed. A cold dread entered your fiery veins and froze you to the spot. Simon was able to escape ran up. You stared in terror and gripped onto Shawn, unable to react in time.
The figure sat down on its haunches, still a towering form, and tilted its head at the bouncing child. His exploration side flaring its head at the worst time possible.
Your heart thundered in your ears, roaring like a storm brewing in the middle of the sea. Simon reached it on wobbly legs and flopped onto the thick thighs of this ‘person’. You couldn’t tell what it was.
A metal mask covered its facial features, leaving you blind to what laid behind. Primitive armor of sorts covered the most important parts of a human. Relatively close to a fishnet like wire covered its body starting from the neck and down to its legs. It was ripped in some areas, clearly used and worn. Worn for what? And… and why was it wear stripper clothing?
Out of your children, Simon had to be the people person. He hugged onto this things leg like a lifeline and giggled his cute little laugh. Any other situation, you would’ve smiled at him and laughed alongside him. You clutched Shawn tighter to your side and watched with bated breath for this thing to do something.
The masked person reached out and offered a massive, scaly hand to Simon. The young child ‘oo’ed at the sight, immediately drawn to the different skin texture than his own.
Shawn began to squirm in your hold. You whipped your head to gaze at him. He made grabby hands towards his twin brother and the humanoid creature. The hairs along your arms bristled. “Absolutely not!” you scolded and returned your gaze on the two.
The incredible size difference didn’t seem to effect this being. Instead, it looked like they took it into great consideration and was soft with the way it moved towards him. Simon latched onto the offered limb and brought it up to his face for a close examination. With a bout of excitement, he spun around and thrusted the hand into the air. “Mommy look!” he cheered as if he had found gold.
A great amount of weight lifted off of your shoulders. You nervously laughed with an unsure smile. “That’s great honey. Now, come over here, please,” you demanded rather than ask Simon to listen to you for this once. Yes, it seemed like the thing humanoid wouldn’t hurt a hair on Simon. You refused to let your guard down for one millisecond. Life lessons and all that fun stuff.
Simon started to pull on the hand, tipped with short yet lethal claws. Talons that could gut you or your children if you did one wrong move.
What had you gotten yourself into? A day vacation turning worse with every passing second.
You watched with a fragile gaze, on the verge of breaking if it moved for an attack. Parental instinct and all that would damn you in this situation. If this creature turned, you couldn’t do a thing to stop it. Not with the way it held itself. Not pride… no. But with an air that consisted that it knew what it was doing.
It followed after Simon, letting him guide it over to you. The entire time, hunched over to allow constant contact with the older twin. Simon stopped in front of you and offered the hand to you; to check it out yourself. “No… no honey,” you refused and shook your head kindly. “I’m all good. I-I can see.” You cursed the slip up stutter in your words. Not like it couldn’t read the terror shining in your eyes, or the realization this creature could kill you at any second.
“Mama, take. Look.” Stubborn as a mule, a trait the two of them got from both of their parents. Shawn squirmed in your hold again and finally slipped down. On his feet, he stepped up to the masked figure and wrapped his arms around one of its legs.
Then, a glint entered Simon’s innocent eyes. The older one latched onto the other leg and looked up at the imposing figure who stood at least a good head taller, if not two.
“Kids,” you called to them but didn’t gain their attention. “Simon, Shawn. Let go. We… we need to get going.”
“Mister, what you are?” Shawn asked and tugged on a long piece of cloth tied to the waistband of the figure’s pants. You were growing frustrated at the lack of obedience in such a dire situation from your children. If you were to survive this, you were going to have a long sit-down with them and ensure they knew the consequences of not listening. Especially when their life could be in danger.
Worst of all, you couldn’t even plan a way to attack this lumbering giant. The thing was massive not just in height but in stature as well. The barrel chest, large muscles that adorned its arms and legs. You didn’t dare even take a step towards it. Not when it could see you as a threat and leave you a bloodied mess for your sons to witness.
“You better listen to your dam,” a voice that easily matched the body spoke in a tone that left little room for arguing. Yet, it wasn’t to threaten or cause any issues with you. Not, he seemed to be attempting to help you in this situation. Then, he tilted his head up and looked at you with emotionless dark pits. “I’m not going to harm them.”
As much as you prayed for those words to be completely truthful without doubt, you still kept your guard up.
“But, I know how dams can be. Protective over their littles.” The more it spoke, the more you realized it wasn’t an average person’s voice you were hearing. It sounded a bit gruff, rough around the edges, as if it wasn’t a language he was meant to speak. He rose his arms in surrender and offered his palms towards you. “I extend a helping hand instead to show I do not have intentions of harm towards your family unit.”
You straightened yourself and set a glare on the masked beast. “Who and what are you?” you demanded and possibly pushed your luck with his declaration earlier. Before you can offer him a single once of your trust, he must be willing to fork over ten times of yours worth.
He settled back down on his haunches and allowed for you to take the tallest title for the time being. Simon and Shawn were forced to move and practically thrown themselves onto his thighs. “What are you?!” Shawn interrogated their newfound friend. Worse than the monster friend in their closet that freaks you out every time they talk about it.
He’s able to pull himself onto one of the beast’s thighs with his help. Shawn sits unsteadily and pointed at the metal mask adorning his strange friend’s face.
The entire time the creature interacts with your children; the way he’s extremely gentle, slow movements; the way he gets down to their level; the way he doesn’t mind them climbing on him… he must be a father himself or knows great patience. You only let your shoulders slack a centimeter.
Still on his haunches, he tilted his head up slightly to gaze at you once more. Without saying a word, his hands come to the mask and go through a worn routine of disengaging it. Muscle memory detached the metal from his face.
Your head jerked back yet you didn’t make a sound. That wasn’t what you were expecting. Then, you blinked a few times. This thing wasn’t anything on earth. No, not with the way if just appeared out of thin air and the facial structures. “You’re an alien, aren’t you?” you questioned, breaking the quiet air that filled the space.
What you believed to be an alien smirk graced his features. One of his strange four fangs rose into a grin. A knowing glint entered his baby blue eyes. “A smart dam,” he mused and bowed his head in a slow motion. “Yes, you caught me. I am an alien in your terms.”
“Alien?” Simon questioned and turned his head to look at you. “Mama, what is alien?” On the other leg, Shawn had spun around with the careful guide of the creature and leaned into his torso.
“An alien is a species that comes from space, not native to our planet,” you explained, hopeful the terms were small enough for either of them to understand. Then, you returned a hardened gaze the alien. “Do you have a name?” Again, you wanted to know what was possible before even entertaining the idea of accepting whatever help he thought was right for the situation.
He lifted his head back up. “T’a’yta and yours?” he returned the gesture in full warmth. The longer he talked with you, the more you grew to be lax around him. Not by much but enough to loosen the tension growing in your muscles.
It was soft on your lips, your name. He tested it on his alien tongue then gave each child a gentle shove off. They whined but were given no choice besides off. Shawn came back to your side and held onto your leg in the same manner he did to T’a’yta.
“And what is this help you offered in the beginning?” you asked afterwards. The cedar-colored alien returned to his full height but a respectful distance away from you.
His head turned towards the crappy car that had started all of this. “I see your mode of transportation has failed you. I have one of my own. I couldn’t bare to turn a blind eye to a dam in trouble. I would like to offer you a ride back to your home,” T’a’yta explained and glanced over your shoulder.
Your expression softened at his confession, eyes flickering down at your children. They had to be getting hungry. The snacks you brought probably won’t last longer than an hour. There was night as well. Darkness would soon swallow you and your family up… and you didn’t know how long it would be before help arrived.
Despite him not showing any signs of harm, you still eyed the creature with suspicion. “And what do you want in return?” you retorted and gave him a hardened stare. You had found aliens exist yet you didn’t know if this one was completely friendly. Who knows what it might do to you if you put your guard down?
T’a’yta snorted and shook his bowed head. “I do not want anything as payment. I’m not doing this to except something in return.” A person with years of patience built under his belt. He didn’t act offended by your question and simply answered it. He didn’t give you any reasons for doubt. “If you wish not for my help, then I accept that. But I will not leave until you and your little ones are safe.”
If only your ex-husband was as thoughtful as a random alien willing to protect you out of nowhere.
The decision came quick to you. You nodded your head towards T’a’yta. “Alright. I’ll accept your offer… Thank you.” T’a’yta smiled at you then motioned his hand for you to turn around. You quirked a brow before slowly listening to him and spinning on your heel. The alien moved around you, your children in tow as they followed the coolest thing they’ll ever see in their lives. You smiled to yourself at the sight shadowed after T’a’yta.
He led you about a hundred yards from the road before coming to a stop. Confused, you paused as well and waited for him to reveal why he had taken you this far from the road.
Unease boiled in your stomach. You eyed the alien with a weary eye all over again yet kept your trap shut in case something you said could turn him.
One hand pressed two buttons on his metal gauntlet. In a similar fashion of how he waxed into existence, a spaceship appeared before your very eyes. This was very Stars Wars like. Your jaw dropped as you stared upon this craft and alienness it had.
A hiss sounded from the metal ship before a ramp began to lower from the belly. It felt like you had been transported into some sci-fi movie.
You were pulled from your shock by a tug on your leg. Shawn stood at your feet and put his arms up for you lift him. Muscle memory had you bending down and scooping him off of the ground. He looped his arms around your neck then looked over at T’a’yta. You walked over to the alien and stood shoulder to bicep with him. “I can’t believe aliens are real,” you whispered the confession.
T’a’yta snorted and shook his head. The weird rubbery, round bands that hung from his domed head snaked with the movement. Metal trinkets adorned the dreads and clinked against one another. “Oomans and their lack of thoughts. Aliens have always existed. There’s always something out there in the big, expansive universe. Not even I know what all lies out there and I’m over five hundred years old in ooman years.” As he spoke all of this, he began to stroll over to the ramp and leading the group. You followed along, hooked into everything all despite the possible danger.
At his last few words, you stopped mid-step with a bewildered expression falling upon your features. “Five hundred?! Five hundred?” you sputtered and blinked a few times to comprehend all of this. Not that you knew what an old whatever his species is looked like, he didn’t even act like someone even hitting thirty.
“Again: lack of thoughts. You will never be alone out there. Life finds a way.” He reached the top of the ramp and motioned for you to keep up. Even Simon was able to run after him with that cute little toddler run and looked back at you.
“Stop being slow, mama. Keep up!” Simon scolded with a childish scowl and held onto T’a’yta’s leg. The cedar brown alien bent at the waist and patted the top of your son’s head.
Simon let a grin spread across his face and leaned up into the affection. You sighed and strolled up the ramp after them.
The new sight of the inside of an alien spaceship washed over you. Yet, it was surprisingly subtle in here. There was detail in here but mostly simple designs. Just a vehicle for transportation or something who didn’t need much to be happy.
Once you had entered along with them, T’a’yta pressed the same two buttons again. The ramp hissed again and began to close. T’a’yta motioned with a jerk of his head to follow after him and started to walk further into the ship. You took a deep breath and listened to him with just a hint of apprehension in the moment. The door to the outside world was now closed, locking you in here with him.
Through three doors, he took you to what had to be the cockpit of his ship. Out in the distance, was a tiny white dot on the road. Your car.
“I would advise you to take a seat during takeoff,” T’a’yta expressed and sat down on a seat that easily fit his larger complex. His hands moved with muscle memory as they went over the console, typing and pressing the proper buttons. You listened to the engines fire up underneath your feet before stepping up to a chair that you knew would swallow you up.
You sat down and held Shawn close to you. Simon was still at T’a’yta’s feet and held onto his knee. With a sigh, you patted your leg. “Simon, come here,” you called to your other son.
T’a’yta easily scooped the child off of the ground and held him in one arm close to him. “It’s alright. You’ve got your hands full with the one. I can watch over this one.”
At first, you apprehensive about letting him hold Simon. Yet, you pushed down the helicopter mom instinct inside of you and slowed your heart down.
The ship rumbled while T’a’yta added power to the engines. They started to lift the vessel off of the ground and further into the air. You gripped onto the chair and held Shawn close. Being in a plane was completely different than this. You held your breath, tense as you felt the craft lift off even more.
“Now, where to?” he questioned with an ease voice, soothe. Your eyes cracked open without realizing they had been shut and glanced over at him. T’a’yta cradled Simon close to him while letting the child have room to wiggle if he so pleases.
An address tumbled out of your lips. T’a’yta let his fingers glide across a screen and hit enter. His hand fell away from the controls. The giant alien swiveled around in his chair to face you.
“In all my years, I’ve never once crashed any of my ships. I promise you with my heart you and your offspring are safe in my hands.” His words helped ease a little tension sitting on your shoulders. “You are free to move about as well. Take-off can be a little unpredictable in some cases.”
He easily picked up Simon and set him back on ship’s floor. Said child began to explore his newfound surroundings with vigor. To ease the tension settling in your bones, you nervously smiled at T’a’yta. “You know, Simon is a huge explorer. He’s gonna find something he shouldn’t probably be in.”
Two of his upper mandibles quirked up. “Sounds like me when I was kid and I turned out fine,” he jestered and motioned towards himself. You huffed through your nose. The alien was scared and armored, ready to take on an army at a moment’s notice. Now, that you were thinking about. He probably could take on the army.
Shawn shifted and slid off of his lap. “And there goes Shawn. Wherever Simon goes, Shawn loves to follow him,” you said to the quiet air and watched as the two went over to the controls.
Even to you, the controls sat higher than you thought was comfortable to use. You knew they wouldn’t be able to reach them.
“They are twins, yes?” T’a’yta asked and leaned back in his chair, lax in his position. From the corner of your eyes, you glanced at him. Despite the terrifying creature he looked like, he showed nothing but peace. You reclined in your chair and brought your legs to sit comfortably in the large seat.
.
The ship lightly shuttered at the touch down. Both of your kids whined but otherwise stayed silent in your arms. T’a’yta moved from his seat and stalked over to your seat. With a tired look in your eyes, you looked up at him and gave a weak smile at him. The days events had dragged away what energy you had left. T’a’yta nearly talked you into sleep. Your sons have already dozed off at least an hour ago.
His towering form stood before you. “I can carry them for you,” he offered in a voice no louder than a breath. The smile only grew on your features. You timidly nodded your head. T’a’yta easily scooped both of them out of your lap and cradled them close to him. A move only an experienced father would know and be able to do after so many times.
You untucked yourself from the seat and stood up, arms stretched high above your head. Little thought was given to follow the large mass as he moved through his own ship. He kept a pace you would be able to shadow easily in your tired state.
In all of its run-down glory, your apartment complex greeted you. With a sigh, you pulled your keys from your pocket and found the proper key. This time, you guided T’a’yta to the third level and towards a door you’ve grown to learn after a year and half of living here. You kept an eye on the alien’s gaze but it didn’t change one bit. Either, he was amazing at steeling his expressions or he truly didn’t judge the conditions of your living. It was the best you could supply on one income.
The inside of your apartment hadn’t changed one bit over the course of twenty four hours. You breathed in its familiar scent, relieved to be home. You glanced back at T’a’yta who had to duck to enter your dwelling. Both of your sons are still cradled in each of his arms. A soft smile was brought to your face at the sight. You walked over to their shared room. “Over here,” you whispered into the silent air.
T’a’yta entered and set both children down in a bed. It didn’t matter which one. The two of you exited the bedroom for the living room and sealed the door behind you.
With just him in your presence, you could feel a little more at ease. You didn’t need to worry about your children getting harmed in anyway around him.
“Thank you… for everything. I’d still be out there right now,” you voice your appreciation to the alien. T’a’yta stood a respectful distance away from you and yours bedroom door.
He bowed his head. “I’m glad to be of assistance.”
Now, a silence fell over the two of you. You gnawed on your bottom lip, words on the tip of your tongue. When he dipped his head and went to turn away, you sprung forward and gripped his arm. His skin was warm the touch and rough underneath you softer fingertips. Instantly, you jerked your hand away, hoping you hadn’t offended him.
“Do-don’t go… I-“ you cleared your throat and had to look away when he turned to you. “I would like to offer you a chance for dinner. As a thank you. I would cook you dinner. Or-or, you’re more than welcome to come back at, at anytime.” You were on the verge of face palming at your stupidity and nonsense you sputtered to him.
The alien chuckled, shoulders jumping with the sound. “I told you. There is no need for repayment. I did this out of the kindness of my heart.” You gave him a pleading look. You didn’t want this to be the last time you saw him.
“I know this. Please, just entertain my stupid idea.” T’a’yta looked at you for a long time before shrugging. Your face brightened with a smile, toothy and all.
“Alright. I shall return into three days. Is that enough time for you to plan this dinner?” he questioned.
You rapidly nodded your head. “Plenty. Thank you, thank you. Again. I-I just want to ease my consciousness. I wouldn’t be able to sleep peacefully knowing I’d done anything to thank you.”
“Of course. I will see you in three days’ time.” T’a’yta took his leave then. The door softly clicked behind his retreating form.
A new silence engulfed you. You turned around and faced the door your children were in. They were safe because of T’a’yta. An alien. He was nice. Much nicer than a lot of folks you’ve met and he was an alien. An alien who looked like he could crush your skull with two fingers. You took a deep breath in before heading to your own room. It had been a long day.

Since rewatching Psych, I've been thinking about how weird and arbitrary Shawn's interests are. Sure, late 2000's writing had something to do with it, and maybe a bit of Henry and Gus's influence, but hearing Shawn be so vocal about how he hates certain popular things or (more importantly) refuses to give them a chance BUT at the same time knowing so many pop culture references, it got me thinking.
What if the reason Shawn has so many pop culture references on hand is because of his eidetic memory, and he doesn't actually have as much of an interest in pop culture? Throughout the show, he actively avoids getting roped into big interests and franchises (see: comic books, soap operas, etc.) despite the fact that he genuinely seems excited once he's part of it. In fact, we don't get to see a lot of Shawn's interests at all unless it's based on an idea.
Take being a bounty hunter, for example. According to him, he's obsessed with the idea, but he doesn't make many references to an actual bounty hunter show or franchise. Instead, he just remembers the one bounty hunter he saw as a child and maybe references a movie or two. Because once he remembers something, he's never going to forget it, or at least not for a very long time.
That's why he thinks in references. Everything is a reference if you have a good enough memory. Everything reminds you of something. If Shawn hears someone make a Spock reference, it's in his repertoire forever. But he wouldn't be caught dead watching the shows or movies because that's just too much information. Why on earth would he endure that?
Of course, it also intertwines with his ADHD. He has bouts of energy and trouble focusing. He can't sit still to save his life, and he hyperfixates...or he would if his memory didn't make him averse to it. So if he doesn't want to hyperfixate on an information-based interest, then what does he hyperfixate on? Physical activities. Instead of learning about his favorite daredevil, he tries to be one himself. When he learns about oil rigs, he doesn't get a book from the library. He tries to find oil in his backyard.
This is also where he and Henry differ regarding Shawn's "potential." Henry is correct when he talks about Shawn's "wasted" potential, but he doesn't understand the toil of having this eidetic memory and ADHD. Here's what I think happened: Henry probably noticed Shawn's stellar memory at a young age, realized he has a gift, spoke with his wife about her eidetic memory, learned that you need to challenge your child's eidetic memory at a young age or it'll go away, started the hat game to make it fun and exciting, but then Shawn's ADHD appeared. Suddenly, it made him much harder to raise (because let's be real, Shawn was not an easy child.) Henry didn't know what he was doing anymore, and since it was the 80's, he didn't have the resources to properly understand his kid's behavior, so he tried to find a common interest, and started training Shawn to be a detective "because kids love cop shows." But Shawn struggled to stay attached to one single interest, and when he grew up, he stopped trying to articulate his problems because his mom (the only person who remotely understood his struggles) left, and he blamed his dad for it.
And academics? Those are a joke because what is the point of studying if he already remembers everything? Until, of course, he needs to apply it to a problem-solving test or writing an essay. Suddenly, he's memorizing a math teacher's answer sheet and copying Gus's report.
Yes, Shawn could have been a great cop. He could be an amazing scientist or anything really. He could have been a national spelling bee champion like Gus wanted to be. Even 15 years later, Shawn remembered exactly what word Gus messed up, how to spell the word, and what letter he made Gus slip up, but he didn't want to be on that stage with Gus because that requires so much learning. And so much time. And so much memorizing. And he refuses to sit still for that long when he knows that overloading his head is going to give him migraines.
Also his "I've heard it both ways" probably comes from the fact that people with eidetic memory can still make lots of mistakes if they don't actively commit something to memory. If Shawn only overhears something, he'll still naturally try to fill in the gaps like everyone else, but because he's so confident in his memory, he just believes what he remembers to be true, leading him to repeat incorrect information with confidence. That could also be why some of his references are incorrect due to mixed-up homophones.
Anyway, this post was supposed to be about how Shawn is just a walking movie reference because his memory won't let him forget quotes, but then I fell into a rabbit hole of the negative effects of having an eidetic memory as a child, and I am very passionate about how Henry actually tried his best, and people need to stop calling him a horrible parent. Love y'all. Let me know what you think.

Hot for Teacher(s) 2
Part 1 / AO3 Link
@babydollbaron I need you to know your tags basically changed the trajectory of this fic
In the mornings, Steve dropped Shawn off at the before care offered by the school and then went to work. Afterwards, Shawn took the school bus home and went over to a neighbor's house, Miss Robin, until his dad got home from work.
Because of this, Steve knew he would hardly have a reason to see Eddie outside school functions and conferences. Which was fine. It was totally fine. He absolutely was not spending nights thinking about those curls under his fingers. Whenever Shawn had a story from school to tell, he hung on every word. And it was only because these were the formative years of Shawn's life.
"Oh yeah, Mr. Munson asked about our practice and I got to tell him all about it", Shawn said.
Steve paused in his current task, which was the dishes while Shawn did his homework at the kitchen table. He knew exactly what his son was talking about.
"Oh? How'd that come up?"
"I told him about it before but I didn't get to tell him about it before Yasmin started crying. He asked me and I told him."
Steve currently taught middle school, but he'd had a little experience with the younger ones. When it got close to Shawn starting school, he did his best to make sure he was prepared. And to make things a little easier on whoever was teaching him. Steve tried to be subtle with his next words.
"Tell me more about Mr. Munson."
And then the floodgates opened. Mostly because it seemed Mr. Munson was very open about his personal life. Apparently, anytime the students had a question, he answered it. Just in this five minutes between drying the dishes and plating up dinner, Steve learned that Mr. Munson played guitar, loved the color red, played a game about dragons, and was single.
"Wait, how do you know he's not married?", Steve asked.
"Because Briana asked him and he said he's not married", Shawn answered easily.
---------------------
Steve tried not to think too hard about it. Mr. Munson being single didn't change anything. Not a single thing. But a really hot alpha who was unattached and also happened to be really good with kids who his kid loved was kind of the ultimate wet dream.
For Halloween, the students were allowed to come in costume and before the day was over, Steve's email was blessed with a collection of pictures of the class, including one where several superheroes, princesses, and even a kid dressed as Chucky defeated the mighty Munson dragon.
It was so cute that Steve had half a mind to send a reply that said so but second guessed it. He didn't need to tell Shawn's teacher it was a cute picture that was the whole reason he sent it. He had to keep all correspondence professional. But it was a picture of Shawn so he was well within his rights to save all of them to his phone.
"You ha~ve a cru~ush~", Robin sang on the phone. She was pulling some dino nuggets from the oven in preparation for Shawn coming over.
"Shut up, I don't!", Steve hissed on the other end. School had just ended but there would be a staff meeting in about five minutes. "I didn't tell you so you could make fun of me-"
"Come on, you knew it was coming-"
"I told you because I just had to tell someone." Steve sighed and took of his glasses to pinch the bridge of his nose. "It's not creepy if he's Shawn's former teacher, right?"
"Steve, I'm gonna be honest, I don't think it's creepy now." Robin picked up one of the nuggets and chomped on it. "It's kind of crazy how we have dino nuggets and animal crackers but not the other way around."
"Please save that for Shawn when he gets there. What do you mean? Wouldn't it be weird?"
"You're both two grown adults. I don't see the harm in asking him out", Robin said.
Steve slouched in his chair behind his desk. "That's not the only fact here. There's the fact that he's teaching my son. If any of the other parents find out, they'll think I'm sleeping my son's way to the top."
"....In first grade? That would be pathetic."
"Most suburban gossip is, but you already know this. It's not me I'm worried about really, it's Shawn. Kids talk too and what if they make fun of him?"
"Oh no! My awesome dad is dating my awesome teacher! Whatever will I do?!", Robin wailed.
"He thinks we're awesome separately. There's no telling what he'll think of us together. And I...I don't want to give him false hope."
"Steve...when was the last time you went on a date?"
Steve let out a puff of air. "Does that one guy who ogled me a few years ago count?"
"Gross! Steve! No! Do you mean the guy who was just staring at you breast feeding?"
"Serves me right for doing it in public. And in shorts."
"Hey, no, there will be no slut-shaming in this household." Robin paused when she heard the door open and the bounding of feet. "Your gremlin is here."
"I think you mean my precious miracle from above. And you will treat him as such. My only gremlins are my sixth graders."
"Whatever. Just get your shipwreck together and decide what you want to do."
Turns out, Steve didn't have to wait long for an opportunity. Shawn had come home that day with a flyer for a Thanksgiving performance and was asking for parent volunteers.
---------------------
Eddie wasn't like, actively hoping that he would see Shawn's dad again. But when the fliers went home asking for volunteers, as well as an email, there was something going up. But it wasn't hope. It definitely wasn't hope. It couldn't possibly be hope. That way nothing could be dashed when nothing came of it.
So when he came into the auditorium after school, he was simply pleasantly surprised to see Mr. Harrington there. Not elated. Not ecstatic. Just appropriately pleased.
He greeted all the parents of his students, of which he only saw two others before coming to Mr. Harrington.
"Nice to see you again", he said with a handshake.
"And you as well", Mr. Harrington replied.
Eddie was sure he was imagining the electricity passing through their touch.
"Well, welcome to elementary theatre. Where we're gonna nurture any and all blossoming passions in the arts."
"Can't wait to see it. Um, so what exactly will they be doing?", Steve asked.
"The first grade class as the honor of doing a little song on what they're thankful for. Mrs. Clifford usually accompanies them by piano, but this year I'm hoping to get some more instrumentation for it."
"Oh, Shawn told me you play guitar."
Eddie's first instinct was to twirl his hair to hide his smile but it was still up in a bun, so he tried to fix his face to not be too obvious but he was sure it came out as a weird grimace.
"Yeah, yeah I do. Been playing for years. What about you, any instrumental skills?"
"None", Mr. Harrington shook his head. "My parents tried piano lessons, but I never took them for long. Just long enough to learn 'Mary Had a Little Lamb'."
"Everybody's got their talents. And no better place to showcase them", Eddie thrust his arms out around them.
"Well for now, I'm volunteering my time being a watchful eye and working on backgrounds and costumes. Plus snacks."
"Wait, did you bring the chips and sliders?", Eddie jutted a thumb toward the table near the stage.
Mr. Harrington shrugged. "It's just turkey and ham. And I know how ravenous kids can get."
"Are you guys talking about me?", Shawn asked, coming up to them.
Eddie watched the odd look on Mr. Harrington's face and was sure his must've looked similar. This was probably the longest he'd been talking to a parent without talking about their kid.
"I was just about to bow to your dad's culinary prowess", Eddie said. "Apparently, he made the snacks for this evening."
"I asked him to make his stuffing because, you know, Thanksgiving, but he said it was too early", Shawn said.
"I'm sure his stuffing is delicious", Eddie smiled down at him.
"You should come to our house and try it", Shawn beamed, leaning his head against his dad's hip.
Eddie looked back up at Mr. Harrington. "I'd love it if I could do that."
----------------------------
What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck
Steve was thankfully saved from replying to that by rehearsal starting and so Mr. Munson's attention was drawn away but seriously. What the fuck was that? Was that man inviting himself over to his house? Was it simple small talk? What was it all supposed to mean?
He was put on costume duty while the children practiced which kept his hands busy but not his brain, so he spent the next hour over thinking about that one line, which led to him overanalyzing the entire conversation. When practice ended, the teachers stood by the front entrance to wait for any parents that weren't already there or hadn't shown up toward the end to get their kids.
Mr. Munson waved off the last of his students just as Shawn finished in the bathroom and Steve helped him get his coat on. He looked hesitant before speaking up.
"Looks like you're my last one. I can walk you to your car if you want. It's pretty dark out."
Pretty dark was an understatement. It was near pitch black and the parking lot had bare minimum lighting. Steve definitely would've felt better about it if he had someone on the other side of Shawn.
"Yeah, that'd be great, thanks."
And without being told so, Mr. Munson put Shawn between them as they left the school and walked out into the parking lot. He gave a whistle once they got to Steve's BMW.
"Nice car."
"Thanks. She's been pretty faithful to me all these years." Steve unlocked the car and let Shawn into the backseat first. When he closed the door, he smiled at the alpha before him. "Thanks for walking us out.
"Consider it a routine then. At least until this place can afford to fully light up the lot."
"Thank you. I really appreciate it." There must have been the tiniest bit of a lull in the conversation because suddenly Shawn piped up from inside the car.
"Dad, can we get tacos for dinner?"
Steve snapped out of whatever staring contest he was having with Mr. Munson and looked down affectionately at his son. "What? My casserole not good enough all of a sudden?" He opened the driver side door and got in, turning the ignition on.
With them safely in the car, Eddie went over to his van and got in, waiting until he saw Mr. Harrington pull out before going his own way.
Later that night, after putting Shawn to bed, Steve was left alone with his thoughts again as he graded papers using an answer key at the kitchen table. It was easy to let his mind drift into just how...how wonderful Mr. Munson seemed.
He bit his lip and squeezed his legs together. Mr. Munson was handsome, and charismatic, and so safe, so much the perfect alpha that he'd been led to believe didn't exist. He could protect him and his pup... and Steve could give him more pups...
Steve's hand drifted down between his legs and he let it stroke a few times before freezing and closing his grade book. Time for something more mentally stimulating.
"Guess I'm lesson planning tonight."

psych is actually so fucked up for the mommy issues they gave shawn. like idolizing her for so so long simply based on the fact she’s not henry (which is a whole other can of worms). she’s never in a single childhood flashback. she’s never mentioned even off-handedly. nobody calls her when shawn got shot, or really any of the other countless times shawn was hurt or in danger. like she sincerely in every sense of the word was a deadbeat and shawn refused to allow himself to see it because he had to hold on to the belief he had his mom to cling to because, again, she wasn’t his dad

Difficult Days Part Four
Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Read on AO3
Detective Vick is not what Shawn expected.
First of all, it's Detective Karen Vick, and second, she's much younger and softer spoken than her association with Henry would suggest.
When she comes to collect Shawn a good twenty minutes later, she clears her throat and waits for him to acknowledge her presence.
Her shoulder length blond hair hangs around her face in a ‘Shag’ cut that vaguely reminds him of a Friend's character, Phoebe? No that's the blonde, what the hell was her name again?
“Rachel,” Shawn says, snapping his fingers in triumph, only to realize he's spoken aloud and the Detective is starring with an amused, if slightly bewildered, expression.
She presses a hand against her chest and says, “no Mr. Spencer, Detective Vick”.
Shawn feels his ears burn but still manages a small grin as the Detective motions for him to stand up and follow her to a small room just off the bullpen.
The tall rookie from earlier is sitting at a desk in the far corner, he watches Shawn before looking back down at the paperwork on his desk, a small self satisfied smirk on his face.
“So,” Detective Vick says as she opens the door and steps aside to let Shawn go first, “I'm sure I don't have to tell you how this works Mr. Spencer,”
“Uh,” he swallows and runs his now sweaty palms down his jeans as he takes in the ink pads and paper on the metal table in front of him.
Holy shit.
Holy shit, he was going to jail.
This was real, he wasn't a minor, his fingerprints would be in the system for the rest of his life, he was going to be shipped off to the state prison, how many years would someone get for taking their neighbors car?
Everything is slipping away from him, Anthony, his parents, his fucking future.
Shawn feels his chest stutter as he realizes he hasn't been breathing.
“I get a phone call right?” Shawn croaks out, his voice quiet enough that Detective Vick has to lean closer to hear.
She raises a single polished eyebrow, her eyes scanning Shawn’s face for a brief moment, assessing something.
Maybe it's because she's a stranger, but her stare isn't nearly as intense as his dads so Shawn meets her gaze, despite his internal panic, waiting for her to say no or brush him aside.
“Okay kid,” she says, tipping her head over to the door, “there's a phone at my desk, dial nine to call out, then come back here and we'll talk”.
Shawn nods, stepping away from the Detective and the open door and making his way over to the desk she pointed out.
The first thing Shawn notices are the pictures among the neat piles of paperwork and files, one of the Detective receiving an award in her dress uniform, another with the Detective and a tall man who looks about her age, probably a boyfriend based on their expressions.
The rookie from earlier clears his throat loudly across the bullpen, staring Shawn down as if to say, quit stalling.
Not that Shawn wants to spend any longer here than necessary. If by some miracle he does get to walk out of here tonight, he’ll never so much as jaywalk again.
Shawn shakes himself and reaches out for the phone, dialing the number with a practiced hand.
It rings, long and loud in his ear once before pausing briefly and ringing again. Shawn holds his breath, please, please, pick up, he thinks miserably.
“Hello?” a sleepy voice says over the line and Shawn releases a shaky breath of relief.
“Hi Mrs. Guster, can I speak to G--Burton please?”
“Shawn? Do you know what time it is?” Mrs. Guster says, her voice firm but the barest hint of concern seeps into her question.
He takes a deep breath and releases it slowly through his nose, “I know it's late, but it's important, please Mrs. Guster.”
“Okay, hold on,” she says tiredly. Shawn hears the rustle of clothing as Gus’ mom makes her way upstairs with the cordless phone, then muffled voices in the background as Mrs. Guster finally passes the phone to her son.
“Gus?”
“Shawn? Do you know what time it is? You're lucky mom even woke me up!”
“Gus stop, I-” he swallows the heavy lump that has started to form in his throat, “do you remember when T.S gets dumped by his girlfriend in that Kevin Smith movie we went to see?”
“What? You called me to talk about Mallrats? Shawn--”
“Gus, just,” he feels his voice waver as he tries to keep it light and quiet, hyper aware of the way Lassiter’s eyes keep flicking his way.
“That movie,” his voice cracks slightly and Shawn winces, curling further away from the blue eyes across the room, “it didn't really do it justice, uh, how much getting dumped sucks”.
Gus is quiet on the other end of the line but Shawn hears the sharp intake of air and suddenly he can’t stop the words from coming, falling out of his mouth like vomit.
“You were right Gus, he uh, he's going to Princeton, can't have someone like me dragging him down, wait, maybe I'm the Brodie in this scenario,” he tries for a laugh that comes out watery and wipes his nose, “I should have listened to you”.
“Shawn--”
“And Henry knows,” he blurts out, cutting Gus off before he chickens out, “it's--it's not good Gus, I'm at the station--”
“What!” Gus exclaims, loud enough that Shawn briefly moves the receiver away from his ear, “the f-- he can't arrest you for being Bi, this isn't the 50s!”
He hears rustling in the background, the sound of jeans and a belt buckle clinking as Gus presumably gets dressed.
Shawn feels some of the heavy weight in his chest lift and can’t quite stop the ghost of a smile from pulling at his lips. He knew he could count on Gus, he could always count on Gus.
“Could you and your mom come down?” Shawn says softly into the receiver,
“We’re on our way honey”.
“Mom!” Gus sputters and Shawn nearly drops the phone this time, he manages to catch it and bring it back to his ear just in time to hear Gus say, “you were listening?!”
Mrs. Guster sucks her teeth and Shawn can almost picture her rolling her eyes, “oh please Burton, you think I'm not going to listen when Shawn calls us in the middle of the night? I don't need a mother's intuition to know something's wrong”.
Shawn holds his breath again, as some of the anxiety from earlier creeps its way back into his spine, how long had she been listening?
Shawn knows Mrs. Guster isn't overly fond of him after all the years of trouble-making and roping her son into his antics, garnering more calls to the Principal's office than the Gusters would have expected for their boy.
And what if she had heard what Shawn said about Anthony, if she was listening the whole time–
“Shawn? Are you still there?” Mrs. Guster says sharply, halting the panicked spiral of thoughts before he can tumble all the way down, “don't say a word till I get there okay? We're on our way”.
“Yeah, that’s--okay,” Shawn breathes out as the wave of exhaustion that has been threatening to wash over him finally spreads down from the top of his head to his shoulders, making him slump slightly as the tension begins to bleed out of his shoulders. He hangs up the phone after another beat and releases a shaky breath, lifting his hands to press his fingers into his eyes for the second time that night.
The sound of a throat clearing behind him has Shawn lookup, slightly startled, to see Detective Vick standing behind him. The rookie is also pretending not to watch him from behind the Detective. He stands at the water dispenser, all legs and lanky arms; it's comical to see him try to be inconspicuous with a half empty paper cup, blue eyes pinched in something awful, like pity.
Shawn wonders if he could get away with kicking the cop in the shins without adding another charge to his new rap sheet.
“You get a hold of your mom?” Detective Vick asks softly.
“Something like that,” Shawn says quietly as the Detective nods and beckons him back into the room.
***
After a long night of taking his fingerprints and photos --where Shawn was reprimanded several times to face the correct way and to stop standing on his tiptoes at the last second to inflate his height, and finally his statement --though this was even harder for the Detective to get through without cracking just a bit after Shawn referred to Henry as, ‘what the Assistant Principal in the Breakfast Club wished he could be’.
It takes well over two hours before Shawn is released back into the main lobby. It’s still dark out thankfully but Shawn has no clue what time it is between the lack of daylight and the new wave of exhaustion that hits him in the gut as he slowly makes his way to the waiting area.
Despite the wait in the horrible chairs in the lobby, Mrs. Guster and Gus are both there, waiting patiently for him.
Gus launches himself off the chair faster than Shawn can say his name as he finds himself nearly tackled to the cold tiled floor.
“Don’t do that again man,” Gus says softly into Shawns shoulder as he hugs him tightly before pushing him away harshly, “it’s two in the morning, what the hell did you do that it took so long to get out? You didn’t actually murder Anthony did you, because I was hoping to get a shot in--”
“Dude!” Shawn squawks, his eyes dart to Mrs. Guster who is pointedly looking at the clock on the wall above their heads. She’s wearing a long cardigan over her pajamas and a tired expression on her face as she turns her gaze back to Shawn and her son. The periwinkle bonnet covering her hair does nothing to soften the air of annoyance following Mrs. Guster as she gives them the barest shake of her head and tells them to get in the car or start walking.
Shawn releases a sigh of relief as Mrs. Guster herds Shawn and Gus into the little Ford Pinto, she hasn’t said a word since they left the building and seems content to listen to Gus speak for the both of them as they pull out of the department parking lot and onto the empty Santa Barbara downtown streets.
He was expecting a lecture, or at least a stern warning to never call their home in the middle of the night like this again. But the silence is almost more terrifying as Gus begins to nod off next to Shawn in the back seat, he can’t get a good read on Mrs. Guster in her silence. Shawn picks at his thumbnail absently as he turns his head to the passenger window, startling slightly as Mrs. Guster clears her throat from the front seat.
“Shawn,” she says softly. Her eyes catch his in the rearview mirror, “I know we haven't always…”
She breathes out and tries again, shifting her gaze back to the road, “Burton has always said you were a good boy, and we--I…”
Mrs. Guster releases another long breath and goes quiet, her brow furrowing slightly as she grips the steering wheel just a little tighter.
Shawn holds his breath, the seat belt stretching tight across his neck like a noose as they continue down the highway.
Then, in a voice softer than Shawn has ever heard Mrs. Guster use in more than ten years of knowing her, she says his name and holds his gaze in the rearview mirror once more.
“You have a place to stay. With us…I hope you know that,” her voice is steady now but just as soft as when she said his name, “and I don’t care what that father of yours thinks, there is nothing wrong with you, do you understand?”
Shawn only manages a small nod as the lump in his throat doubles in size, erasing his voice completely. It earns him a kind smile in return from Mrs. Guster as she holds Shawn’s gaze for another beat before shifting her attention back to the dimly lit road.
Shawn doesn't speak for the rest of the ride that night. Content to let the silence in the vehicle, punctuated by Gus's soft snores, and the soft golden light of the street lights wash over him as they make their way home.

Alcohol as Sanitizer
Summary: Shawn gets stabbed in an alley, and the closest place to go and perform first aid is Henry’s house
Notes: first time writing whump like, ever. I hope this pleases the whump gods.
Day one of the Whumperless Whump event, here we go…
—————
Shawn quietly slipped the window to his dad’s living room open, leaving behind a partial hand print stained in blood. Gently, he eased himself inside, sitting for a moment on the hardwood, bicep aching as he caught his breath. He got up soon though, and shuffled towards the kitchen where he knew his dad kept the first aid kit.
He had been minding his own business, walking down an alley as a shortcut to his apartment, when someone tried to mug him. He had gotten away without his money getting stolen, but at the price of getting shanked in his left arm. Thankfully, it wasn’t deep at all, a graze really, but it was bleeding pretty badly.
He kept his footsteps light, being sure to step on the floorboards that had settled more than others. One of them threatened to squeak, but he changed his direction and the unruly board went silent once more. He continued.
Once at the kitchen, he started rifling through the cupboards, taking out gauze and extra large bandages. Although he couldn’t find the antiseptic, or even any rubbing alcohol of any kind. He frantically searched the kitchen, digging around drawers looking for the sanitizer.
Shawn stopped at the liquor cabinet. Yeah, it was technically alcohol, and it would clean the wound, but was he that desperate? A sharp sting in his cut said yes, yes he was.
He grabbed a bottle of single malt whiskey, unscrewing the cap with his teeth and spitting it out onto the counter. Holding his arm over the sink, he gently poured the golden liquid onto a cloth, and dabbed it on his open wound.
Shocking pain bloomed, stinging like a thousand wasps. He grit his teeth and kept going, occasionally letting out a soft grunt as he made sure to clean every spot.
It was over soon, and he softly gasped a sigh of relief. He finished bandaging himself up, and put everything away where he had found it. Alcohol and the box of bandaids went back in the cabinets, crumpled and empty bandaid casings going into the garbage.
That morning, Henry Spencer would wake up and find a missing roll of bandages, a near empty box of bandaids, a half empty bottle of Glennfidich that he was sure he had left nearly full, and a bloody half-handprint staining his living room window.

Shawn (and Gus) of the Dead
First of all, that is a perfect title.
Now, this episode is one of my favorites of season 2. Its so funny, its such a fun concept, and the ending is fantastic! The crime is so elaborate though its kind of insane. To summarize, this guy killed his dad by pistol whipping him down the stairs. The gun gets willed to the museum. Lassie is gung-ho about solving it because its a big name and he’s getting lots of press. This guy, who’s on the board of the museum, apparently having tried everything to get the guns except appeal to their sentiment, then decides to bribe the warehouse guy into hiding him in a snufflophagus, tilts the camera (though apparently him walking out of the coffin wasn’t caught??) so you can’t see him at the case, fails to open that same case, kills the guard, goes back for the van, apparently sees gus and shawn tailing him and books it, even though he doesn’t know who they are, crashes the van into a tree for some reason, puts the mummy in the drivers seat (lol), then runs into the forest like a madman. This guy had to have been on cocaine or something. I’d love to hear him explain to the other prisoners how he got caught.
Carlton was kind of an ass to sophie for no reason. Like i get that he thought the case was beneath him, that he was eager to return to the homicide, but considering she knew Wyles, you’d think he’d have at least treated her like a witness instead of completely disregarding her (and being pretty misogynistic)
But kudos to juliet for standing up for her. One of the things that irritated me sometimes about juliet and carlton was when they’d have her apologize for his behavior- but i love when she stands up to him. I’m not a big fan of the idea that a person can “fix” another person (its too long to explain right now), which is what i think juliet did, or at least, helped him face his own behavior throughout the series. I don’t think its fair to juliet to be placed in that position, though. It honestly feels like she’s babysitting him sometimes.

Heres a few scattered notes:
Two things: 1. How dare wardrobe make this poor woman wear these peep toe high heels. They look so uncomfortable. 2. I had to point out Shawns shirt because it made me realize that i do in fact, still find James completely huggable haha. I bet he gives amazing hugs.
Tumblr media
Impressed by Dulé’s run here haha
Tumblr media
James, i swear to god. He does not waste a single goddamn frame lol
Tumblr media
The fact that gus keeps sniffing women, makes me believe his attraction to them is heavily scent based haha its so creepy.
This moment feels like the writers roasting both james and shawn simultaneously haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This might be an unpopular take on this, but Shawn helping Karen get the job seems like a really thoughtful thing to do for her, and the way they shot the scene with her looking at him appreciatively certainly makes it look so, but if im honest, i think it had more to do with self preservation. Shawn has a good thing going. Im sure part of it was because he liked karen, shawn is a genuinely nice person, i just don’t think its the main reason. (Sidenote: i think its so cute how excited Gus is about it though)
Tumblr media
Now for the Henry of it all.
I love how close henry came to having a nice moment with little shawn and then absolutely blowing it. I think that sums up his parenting pretty well haha like he means well, but he just sucks at it.
I think its so interesting that Maddie returning makes him so flustered. He doesn’t hold any anger or resentment towards her, he’s not biting at Shawn because he hates her, he’s nervous. He’s cleaning the house because he wants to impress her. I have to believe this is the first time she’s going to be seeing him since she ran off. Which is kind of sad because they share a kid together. They’d didn’t once have a family Christmas since then?
What i don’t understand, is how she managed to contact henry before shawn. They’re divorced. I know shawns phone broke, but is she really calling so infrequently that it never came up? Im going to discuss maddie more next season when we actually meet her. Right now she’s more myth than anything.
Which really helped make the season 2 cliffhanger so freaking potent! Its so simple, and yet the tension built up was effective as hell! I think more tv shows should take note. Too many tv cliffhangers these days feel like life or death and not enough are riding on family drama.
Tumblr media
P.S
What do you mean that wasn’t his first time alone in a coffin?? Wha-why? Why was he in one?? What was he doing?

Single Dad AU-
This is within the og family of destruction au, (the one in which Leon is born in 2000 and cassie is born in 2005 aka not the one I post about usually the one me and valentine use. It'll make sense as things go on) it's bascially a overview pretty much-
Shawn is the single dad. He's your typical movie case of teenage pregnancy.
So I've changed John's birthday to 1982, meaning Shawn would be 17. Shawns only time with a women led to a child. And her family insisted Shawn take the child as she had college opportunities and a future. They also tell shawns parents which led to him out on the streets which is how he meets Jose who takes him and baby cena in.
Jose offers Shawn a opportunity to learn how to wrestle which he explains, if shawn is good, it can get him a lot of money for him and John. So Shawn agrees. Jose allows John into the gym and helps look after him when Shawn trains.
It's not ideal but John and shawn live in the gym.
Some time goes by and shawns finally on the way up. And he meets Scott, Sherri and marty. Sherri and Scott help with John and well marty ends up being a messy romantic relationship. Shawn stupidly let's marty into John's life straight away but he makes sure to never make that mistake again.
Shawn finally gets a cheap apartment. He makes sure most of his money goes on John and bills meaning he doesn't have much for himself but he makes it work. It does end in him stealing some of Scott's clothes but the man doesn't know or atleast if he does he doesn't comment on it.
Shawn will finally end up in the wwf where John is now 6 years old and vince has made some arrangements so John can come to work with shawn and have someone watch him. And of course, shawn grabs the attention of bret hart who Shawn makes sure to never introduce him to John as a romantic partner. And it's a good thing he doesn't.
John loves growing up backstage of the wwf, especially when Kevin comes into their life. It's like a big family for John. He loves chirstmas and birthdays that's for sure.
When Kevin and Scott do leave, it upsets John and shawn but chyna and hunter make sure both don't feel the impact. Kevin and Scott also make sure to still turn up when it's events and when Shawn needs them.
John's also noticed his Pa getting closer and closer to a certain deadman.
And then, Montreal happens. And shawns a wreck. John reassures him that he's still the best dad in the world and that he can't do no wrong. John also notices the deadman lerking and comforting his dad in private. Which makes John curious.
And of course, John's 15/16 at this point and starting to train himself when Shawn hurts his back and starts to spiral.
It's important to note that Shawn does still have his issue with addiction but its not as major because of John. This now becomes a major issue when his back breaks and John's old enough to understand. John looks after his father whilst juggling school and training.
And one day John has a scare when he can't get shawn to wake up. He contacts the only numbers shawn has named in his phone, taker and Kevin.
This starts a close relationship between taker and shawn and taker and John. John goes to taker for help and advice behind shawns back. He also updates taker on shawns health.
Shawn and taker become closer and start dating. Shawn still doesn't know about John and takers friendship so he tries to keep it from John.
He gets the shock of his life when he comes back from shopping at John and taker are sat at the table having lunch. Which leads to all parties coming clean.
Shawn isn't completely clean but he's a lot better than the last few years. And taker and him get hitched. John is over the moon. He's so happy and he knows this is the start of something new for both him and shawn.
He's abit conflicted when he finds out their trying for a kid but Shawn reassures him that he will always be his boy. Taker also promises that he will not allow anything to come between Shawn and John.
So 2000 comes along, takers missing, John's building a career for himself in the indies and Leon's the new baby of the household. And shawn? Shawns finally waking up to the world. Especially when Kevin has a word with him and gets hunter to talk to him again.
2002 rolls about, John is about to be the next big thing in the wwe, taker has a new attitude and shawns making a return. And Leon's being a spooky little bitch.
2005 is kicking, the boys are thriving and little cassie is coming into their lives. I say thriving Leon's only ever said one word and spends most of his 5 year old life staring at the corner as if somethings there.
John isn't conflicted this time. He's excited. He can't wait to have another sibling. Leon doesn't know how to feel. He's going to become a middle sibling. Makes sense to be honest.
Both boys end up loving cassie. John can't help but smile when he holds her as he thinks about how far they've come. Him and shawn. The hell they've been through. He can't help but relax knowing cassie and Leon will never have to suffer like they did.
John is a jinx. John is also angry and disgusted when he finds sees Leon on his 16th birthday. He wants to beat the hell out of Paul but kane and taker stop him. Telling him Leon needs them more right now.
John feels like his heart breaks as Leon locks himself away. As cassie stares at Leon in fear when she finally sees him. How she asks John and shawn if Paul will do that to them. It breaks John's heart.
John makes sure to stick by Leon's side, even when he's being a little shit and breaking laws.
But too cassie and Leon, even if they never tell him, John is the best big brother he can ask for. Especially when he doesn't tell on them to their parents after cassie performs open heart surgery on Leon and him and kane find them.
And shawn? Shawn is happier then ever. He's sober and has three amazing kids. Well. Three kids. One of them is a trash talking gangster, one of them is a demon and the youngest is a hyperactive puppy, but the kind that tries to fight dogs bigger then her.
Shawn is also happy with his life partner. Taker never reacted to John like his exes did. He stood in and became a dad to John when Shawn couldn't, but he made sure John knew Taker would never replace Shawn. Shawn and taker have taught each other so much but John has taught them even more. John helped bring them together. Helped them communicate. He also put up with their crazy friends who'd soon become his uncles.
The family of destruction is a makeshift family of crazy supernaturals and scary humans. But they make it work and they always have each others back.

angry kisses? number 40 something
i started this fic wanting to write The Conversation & then realized there was really no where else it could have gone. dear lord. anyway, more importantly: juliet, my beloved. like shawn IS a walking red flag but she matches his freak so specifically set immediately after santabarbaratown part 2; psychs tendency to lean really heavily into the show part of show dont tell is usually something i love a lot but in this one (1) single instance this is a conversation i wish had been had a liiiiittle bit more explicitly.
anyway heres wonderwall
By the time they’re finally in the car, making their way to Juliet’s apartment, Henry has been in the hospital for four days. He’s doing much better. He’s speaking, finally, which is a bit of a double edged sword. Shawn’s relief has started dancing a very uncoordinated tango with his temper. Juliet doesn’t think he’s spent this much uninterrupted time in the same room as his dad for years.
“-- don’t understand because she hasn’t lived enough of life to know the basics. She’s a nurse! She’s the nurse! She’s not here for fun, you’re paying her – and then he starts bitching about how we’d have more insurance money for the good stuff if my appendix hadn’t burst, which is somehow now my fault. You don’t slack off your way into a burst appendix, Henry!”
Five minutes away from home, Juliet feels wrung out like a kitchen rag. There are only a few things she’s fully capable of processing right now, and driving’s at the top of the list. Not dying would be good, after the week they’ve had. The relief she’d felt at the station has quieted for sure, into something maybe a little zoned out, but Juliet isn’t upset. She’s just tired. She’s tired enough that her focus keeps jumping from the road signs to Shawn’s blustering imitations of his bedridden father to the goofy little voice he’d used for his I love yous yesterday afternoon.
They play over in her head in this weird detached way that still fills her stomach with butterflies. Butterflies, because despite the fact that he’s been taking her hand in his habitually for the entire run of this whole thing, she’s starting to feel a deeper itch to touch him, and it’s not happening. There’s this – space, between them. She thought it would go away once they left the hospital. It hasn’t really.

Seriously, it drives me nuts that occasionally the characters closest to Shawn will say that they do recognize that he has some severe issues, but never in a like... way that suggest they... care?
Like, Jules outright says she knows Shawn doesn't even know what a healthy, loving family looks like- she says it to Shawn's face, as an attack on him, and then never brings it up again even when they're dating and she sees his dad be awful to him and sees how despite all that Shawn loves his father enough to do anything to keep him in his life.
Gus says more than once an outright "You've got issues." he knows Shawn is incapable of turning off his detective brain, knows Shawn is dangerously reckless with his own life, and was present for moments of Shawn's upbringing that showed how Henry never allowed Shawn to have even the smallest boundaries. He still doesn't seem to grasp that hey, yeah, Shawn having issues means Shawn has issues.
Henry always goes in on Shawn about his lack of boundaries, lack of respect for authority, lack of safety- but Henry never allowed Shawn to have boundaries or taught Shawn what appropriate boundaries even are, he taught Shawn that authority is Relative with his attitude towards superiors he was displeased with (I respect Shawn for this one- but Henry doesn't and I'm just saying Henry is responsible for this thing he hates in his son), and spent Shawn's whole life telling him "You are destined to be a man who puts his life on the line every single day, and you have no choice in that matter." And then Henry claims no responsibility for these traits in his son, insisting Shawn just developed them out of thin air.
I just- everyone shows they're aware that Shawn has some serious issues, but none of them like... care? Shawn has no concept of boundaries, he shows he has no concept of them, it's treated as though he does and is willfully ignoring rather than just genuinely lacking any understanding. He shows, over and over, that he is genuinely just not capable of comprehending what going too far is- he's always genuinely confused by how bothered people get, because he's had his boundaries crossed and ignored an stepped on so much throughout his life that he just doesn't know what they are, in general.
He often shows genuinely reluctance and regret when he deduces something he knows will upset someone but is met with hostility while expressing that deduction, no matter how many caveats or "maybe not" or margins of error he pads it with, and they treat it like he's being malicious and it just-
I have so much more to say but I'm starting to shake a lil' so I'll probably elaborate again another time.

Hot for Teacher(s)
Part 1/? Read on AO3
Omegaverse modern au where steddie are both teachers. Eddie is teaching single omega Steve's son.
Eddie let out a satisfied sigh as the latest parent left his classroom. Parent/teacher conferences were always a tad stressful, even if there was no tangible reason to be. Most of his kids were doing well in all their subjects. There were only a couple behavioral outliers but Eddie knew that those parents rarely showed up but from professional and personal experience.
The main reason he didn't look forward to these was how selective kids could be with the information they shared. More than once in his years, a parent would arrive with a bone to pick about a problem that was apparently happening in the classroom that Eddie had no idea was occurring. These kids came up to him ten times a day to tell him what their little sister had for lunch two days ago but god forbid they admit when they have a problem with another student.
Today's appointments had mostly been smooth, though. It typically wasn't the quote unquote problem children whose parents showed up anyway. He just had one more person to go and then he could run out the clock fixing up his room until he was allowed to go.
He double checked the name. Shawn Harrington. Good kid. Bright, active, and it sounded like their parent had arrived.
"Mr. Munson? Hi, I'm Shawn's dad."
Eddie looked up to see a total smoke show.
"Hi", he cleared his throat when it squeaked out. "Nice to meet you, come in, have a seat." Eddie had Shawn's folder ready, like the other kids to show any work that should be highlighted, as well as his grades up on his laptop. "So did you have any concerns or worries about Shawn?"
Eddie quickly went in autopilot. It was the only way he was going to get through this. He was going to keep his eyes from drifting to that smooth sweep of this man's hair. He wasn't going to hyperfocus on his pretty lips. He wasn't going to gaze deeply into those chocolate brown eyes. He wasn't going to flare his nostrils to take in more of his scent. And he definitely wasn't going to check his fingers for any rings.
Bare hands.
Very nice hands.
They had a nice, brief conversation about the student's progress, and Eddie couldn't help but give him a glowing review. Even if Mr. Harrington wasn't totally hot, his kid was a wonder at times.
"He listens and pays attention well, always raising his hand to answer questions. If you don't mind me saying so, he just seems really prepared for school."
Which was saying something when many of the other first graders were still asking things like 'do we have to do math?' or 'are we going home today?' Eddie remembered being little and having pretty much no control over his life, so he could relate to the tiny ones still getting the hang of school. But kids like Shawn were a breath of fresh air.
"He did pretty well in kindergarten and I put him in daycare pretty early", Mr. Harrington said. "He gets really excited for school and I can tell he really likes you so far."
His smile could have blinded Eddie. He wanted to gush on just to keep seeing that smile.
"That means a lot, thank you." It wasn't a strong stigma but sometimes people got iffy over an alpha teaching children so young. It was thought they needed the 'gentler' hand of an omega. His eyes drifted back down to Mr. Harrington's hands. Yep, there was no ring there.
Now Eddie would never ask out or even flirt with a parent. That was off limits. But you know, if he got a little creative with his fantasies... well, you can't go to jail for thought crimes.
They said their parting words and Eddie was definitely not watching that ass in those khaki slacks. God, was there anything more cliche than him being a teacher and having the hots for a parent? He tried to keep his mind off it as he fixed up his classroom. He wouldn't even be seeing the guy that much. Not unless something came up with Shawn. And that kid was kind of an angel.
It was Friday, so once he was done, he went home to enjoy his weekend. Come Monday, there was a cacophony of voices. Half talking to each other and the other half trying to both greet him good morning and get right into another conversation. Eddie took it all with a smile.
"Mr. Munson, did you tell my mom about my butterfly!?", Theresa exclaimed, pointing to their bulletin board where their work hung.
"Mr. Munson, I got cheez-its in my lunch today", Victoria said, opening up said lunch box.
"Did you really talk to our parents?", Walker asked, arms crossed.
"Most of them", Eddie answered once they gave him a breath to speak.
"He talked to my dad", Shawn said. "And he said you said I was good."
"That I did", Eddie nodded, watching them as they put their coats and bookbags away. Theresa and Walker were known to fight over hooks.
"Mr. Munson, did you know my dad is a teacher too?", Shawn asked.
"I did not know that. Explains why you're so ready for school."
"Yeah, we practiced", Shawn said as he sat down to get started on the warm up.
Eddie raised a brow, wanting to ask what he meant by that, but his attention was grabbed when there was a shriek and a cry from Yasmin. He steeled his nerves for the day. He would need the fortitude.
-------------------------
When Steve walked into the classroom to meet Mr. Munson, he didn't know what to expect. He regretted missing Back to School Night, but his had been on the same evening and as a teacher, he couldn't miss it. But Shawn had nothing but good things. So he went in with optimism.
And was met with a gorgeous, gorgeous man sitting at the teacher's desk. For a second, Steve was sure he had the wrong room.
"Mr. Munson? Hi, I'm Shawn's dad."
His hair was pulled back in a bun and Steve's first thought was how it must look when it was down. Honestly, Steve couldn't tell you exactly what he had said. His tongue felt twisted the whole time as did his stomach. But Mr. Munson was smiling through it all and hadn't brought up anything bad about Shawn, so Steve must really be selling it.
He wanted to say that Mr. Munson's praise meant the world to him. That it wasn't always easy to bring up a kid as a single omega parent. But that felt too personal for a first meeting. And mentioning he was single would probably be too forward. When it ended, they shook hands, allowing Steve to get just a little close. He caught a whiff of his scent and instantly wanted more. At least enough to pinpoint what it reminded him off.
But he had to let go just as quickly and then leave without lingering. He was NOT going to be the type of parent that made goo-goo eyes at his child's teacher. It wasn't like Shawn needed the leg up and Steve was done with his slut era. So even thought Mr. Munson could definitely get it, he was absolutely off limits.
And if Steve went home and immediately put the rest of the school year's events in his own calendar, that was simply because he was an amazing dad and for no other reason.

I have not much new to liveblog (tho i did make a psych side blog, @lassiesloveoflarping ) but I gotta know: is the fact that the episode titles are Like That because Shawn names them canon/word of god, or do we simply know because of how cool and sexy we all are?
We as Psych fans (Psychos) know how cool and sexy we all are. The Psych fandom is so fucking hilarious and wholesome all at once. I remember when I first watched Psych and thought “Omg, I’m like Shawn & Lassie as one entity” because I’m chaotic like Shawn, I say movie & TV show references on the daily, make dumb ass jokes at times where everyone is probably like “really?..” and I’m just like “but the joke was pretty funny, right?” Then I’m like Lassie in the sense of being totally over it, having a resting bitch face, sticking to facts alone, being emotionally constipated, but also pathetic in a sexy & endearing way. Lmaoo. I love the Psych fandom so much that it’s insane.
When Shawn started rambling off Lassie & his ship names I started laughing so hard when I first saw it because he literally has no shame. Lassie being in pure horror and dread just made it even funnier. Shawn flirting with Lassie & basically any person who walks this planet is just a mood and I love it. Lol.
Lassie secretly does love Shawn though. Like, all of the characters who are so over Shawn’s BS all secretly love him and his chaotic nature. It’s honestly very sweet. The creators of the show did such an amazing job giving them such an amazing dynamic.
Like in the episode where Shawn was shot (Season 4 Episode 9: Shawn Takes A Shot In The Dark) and Lassie, the one who is known to dislike Shawn and just looking at him makes Lassie wanna lay in the street, mainly referred to Shawn by his first name, genuinely wanted to find him, was very persistent on finding him firsthand, even though he didn’t want Henry involved, still allowed Henry to join him because he understood that that was Shawn’s dad & was indeed a good cop in his day, called Shawn “Detective” as a way of complimenting his bravery, survival skills, deductive skills, and firearm aim, etc.
Then we have Shawn, who we know makes fun of Lassiter and mocks him at any given time to annoy him, immediately tried phoning him after he couldn’t get through to Gus when this were getting serious, when he was being choked by the kidnappers while Lassie & Henry were outside, he tried saying Lassie’s actual first name “Carlton” but it was blocked because of him getting choked, trusted that he would be found by Lassiter, his dad, and the rest of his friends, etc. It showed that even though Shawn gives Lassie shit, he genuinely trusts Lassie, knows he good at his job, knew that if something was wrong and if Gus didn’t pick up, to get ahold of Lassiter.
They both give each other so much shit but they both do genuinely care for each other. It’s very much seen as the show continues. It’s also very much shown in the second Psych movie “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home” when Shawn holds Lassie’s hand as he was sleeping. The actor (James Roday Rodriguez) did that for a different reason as well because Timothy Omundson (Lassie) had just recovered from a major stroke that could’ve ended his life. So, it was a welcome back sort of thing and a way of comforting him. I literally adore basically every single character & episode within the Psych series and I adore the cast even more. They’re all so sweet. I know they all want to make more Psych movies together buttttt they’re all busy people.
This kinda turned into a whole different rant but oh well- Lmaoo. 💛🍍💛

Unofficial Shally Bullet Points Round 1;
Shawn is gay, Wally is bisexual.
Met through work. Wally routinely did maintenence on the machinery on the factory floor. They ended up hitting it off in passing conversation.
Wally is a huge dog lover and has three dogs (that he's not allowed to have) at his place of residence.
Said dogs are Zeus (border collie mix), Lady (mutt, looks like a black collie), and Shep (Old English sheepdog mix.) All are former strays.
Lady loves Shawn and does tricks for him, Shep ignores him whenever possible, and Zeus is just happy to see anyone.
Shawn is an excellent painter and if you sit him down with a brush he can do a pretty damn good landscape portrait.
Shawn has permanent inkstains on his fingertips from detail work on the toys. This is partially due to his refusal to wear gloves.
Shawn swears up and down that there are a few "real" superstitions- mainly walking under ladders, broken mirrors, and ghosts.
Shawn never confronted the Gent worker who stole his belt, and when asked always dismissed the situation saying the belt "wasn't worth the trouble." In reality, he hated Gent's guts and didn't want to start a fight on studio grounds.
Wally can't hold a tune and neither can Shawn.
Shawn fell first (immediately, not thinking anything would happen between them) Wally fell harder (started standing way too close and practically knocking Shawn over.)
The first night out drinking together they both came back to Wally's apartment and passed out on the couch together. Ever since then they had no qualms with sleeping on or around each other.
Shawn's coworkers knew about them and tried playing cupid a few times.
First successful time playing cupid was peer pressuring them into dancing together during a pub crawl.
Second successful time was whatever the hell happened at a mutual friend's house on Christmas Eve
Wally has a scar in the center of his chest from falling off a balcony when he was young. It's a sensitive topic (and a couple past partners didn't help with the self-consciousness,) so he kept it from Shawn for as long as possible. Of course Shawn doesn't care, and often comments that it makes him look like a "Gaelic Warrior."
Shawn was raised Irish-Catholic but holds mostly agnostic beliefs. Wally was raised Christian and generally believes in the "important stuff", though has his own LONG set of questions about several biblical events (mainly Noah's Ark...don't get him started.)
Shawn has a single mom. Wally has a mom, dad, and two sisters.
Wally leans more towards "classic American" foods (AKA give him a burger and he'll be happy) but he knows how to cook (thanks to his mom) and he appreciates good food more than the average person.
(Wally's sisters cannot cook to save their lives LOL)
Shawn has found on several occasions that he's able to one-up Wally in the kitchen. Lucky for him, Wally deeply appreciates food coming from people he loves.
Shawn can stomach seafood, Wally cannot (it makes him sicker than a dog on a rollercoaster.)
Shawn smokes and drinks, Wally drinks socially but never alone. Wally doesn't smoke because he has a relative who smoked waaay too much and they now sound like a dying rat.
After evaluating why his past relationships never worked out, Wally eventually figured he wanted to find someone like Shawn to spend the rest of his life with, but knew it probably wasn't possible to find a girl like him (so close babe! That's called having feelings for a man <3 you'll get it next time)
Wally is into people who can make him laugh, Shawn is into people who can throw him around by the leg like a shot put ball.
Wally never realized he was bi until Shawn came along, but in retrospect there was probably a reason he kept a select handful of baseball cards in the same drawer as his pinup gals.
Wally did have a crush on Susie. Nothing ever came of it, but they did become great friends. (This is part of the reason Sammy hasn't strangled him yet.)
Despite a streak of clumsiness and forgetfulness, Wally is actually skilled at his job and surprisingly hasn't blown anything up yet.
Shawn hides gifts. Any gifts. He makes the whole affair a damn treasure hunt. NEVER do Easter with this guy.
The longer the joke, the more likely Shawn is to tell it.
Both are animal lovers in general, though Wally considers it a sign of bad character for someone to hate dogs, and Shawn considers it a red flag for someone to hate cats.
Shawn made a custom Boris doll for Wally, which of course is on display out of reach of the dogs.
Wally values physical touch in general- firm handshake, wrestling/playing with his dogs, etc, but also as a love language.
Shawn is an angry/flirty drunk, Wally is a giggly drunk.
Shawn had one boyfriend when he was younger and has more experience with intimacy, and Wally is the inverse, having gone on his fair share of dates, but pulling the brakes when it comes to anything further.
Shawn has slightly crooked teeth.
Idk where to put this but they ended up toweling each other off after a hose fight at a Fourth of July cookout and definitely felt some things
Their first kiss started an argument. It did not end in an argument btw.
Shawn started calling Wally "baby-doll" and "sweetheart" somewhere along the line of their friendship. Wally upgraded Shawn to "honey" or "dolly" after they made things more official.
Wally thought it would be a good idea to get Shawn a puppy for their second anniversary and he was right the puppy was adorable and Shawn cried profusely
They had a backyard wedding with close friends and family. Allison was invited and of course attended, dragging Thomas along in the process. (He can't stand either Shawn or Wally so this is a fair punishment for his crimes against humanity I think.)
