Hey Feathers, what did you think of the scene, in full metal alchemist, where envy's true form is revealed?

That depends on which series.

If you mean the original,

Eh, kinda bland. Keep in mind this was the series where they basically spitballed it cause the manga wasn’t finished.

If you mean Brotherhood,

I enjoy this one a lot better. Design wise and character wise.

Hey Stelo, what would you say was a big inspiration for hallber?

The inspiration of Hallber mostly came from my experiences as a child. Hallber’s design was originally inspired by my late pet dog Holly. Hallber’s name even originates from my dog’s name. As a kid, I also really liked the Garfield comics, so the first incarnation of Hallber was a Garfield knock off… Yeah… And I know how much of a meme that damn cat is now.

Anyway, other characters that I made around him were either based on pets I’ve had or encounters with other animals my dog has had. ie. Tortelini the Barber Tortoise, Paul the Possum, and Sleazy the Skunk. There were also other sources of my childhood that I drew from for Hallber. When I was a little kid, I grew up watching a lot of old Mickey Mouse cartoons from the late 1920s to 1930s on VHS tapes. I decided to make Hallber a black and white rubberhose toon. On top of that, his personality (in his modern incarnation anyway) is also inspired by how I was as a child. I made the decision for Hallber to have a learning disability just like me. It also explains why Hallber is afraid of everything, will stumble a lot with other people he’s not familiar with, and is afraid to talk with other women aside from Helen.

Another thing, the idea of Hallber and Helen being poor during the Great Depression also came from another piece of film I watched a lot as a child, which are the “Our Gang/ The Little Rascals” shorts. As I watch them now, I can’t help but see how they captured the life styles of that time period and the attention to detail with the clothing that the children wear in those shorts. It gave me the idea to have Hallber and Helen depicted in a similar way.

Sorry if this went on for quite a long time. The inspiration for Hallber really did just come from everything I’ve seen or experienced in my childhood. :)

I’m a huge Paper Mario fan, so either game (minus Sticker Star) works for me. Super Paper Mario’s my favorite game of the series and in general so I’m more likely to play that!

Any style with hair tassels. I just really find them cute to play with.

Hey Stelo, what was you favorite scene you worked on for this cartoon?

I think my favorite scene from that cartoon are the interactions between Hallber and Helen because then they lead to close ups and that’s when I get really really wild with my facial expressions. There were even times where I would actually look at myself in a phone camera and just make all kinds of weird expressions. I also like animating the Russian Magician Borshinski. That was fun to do. :)
