Eri's touted as sort of a 'Tenko But Things Went Right', which isn't wrong, but I feel like her save relied a lot of luck too. And luck shouldn't be a determining factor in child welfare??
It was by pure chance that Deku and Mirio first encountered her. 100% random bump. Nighteye had no idea about any child in the Shie Hassakai compound, despite having staked it out for at least a few days already.
The rescue effort was launched to save Eri, yes, but only because the Heroes had that one lucky detail to connect “DNA inside bullets” to “visibly injured child”. Without that...who knows? If Heroes had no compelling evidence to storm the compound, would they have just continued a routine drug investigation? If they raided the compound but didn’t know about the child beforehand, what would’ve happened to her? Shunted off to an orphanage because she’s ‘a criminal/yakuza’s child’? Place under HPSC supervision because of her relation to the bullets?
The manga itself stated that Eri was going to be sent off to an orphanage, BUT her out-of-control quirk was cause for concern and fortunately there was the one (1) guy who can suppress her quirk and help train her - who happened to be a teacher at a private educational campus run by a multi-millionaire who can afford to take her in as a ward. How amazingly lucky!!!! (And everyone themselves said that they were hoping to teach Eri how to use her quirk so that she can cure Mirio. How nice that her quirk is deadly but also has this miraculous healing ability that lends this additional incentive to take her in.) Eri is still only in custody of UA because her last living blood relative, her grandfather, is still in a coma. Would Pops ever want her back, if he ever wakes up? Would UA let him? Good thing UA has the resources and connections to win a custody battle, in this case.
Plus, before all of that, Eri was already another abandoned child, way before the Heroes ever learned of her. Her mom abandoned her; then her grandfather took her in, but when he fell into a coma, she ended up with the worse possible caretaker. Yeah, Overhaul is Overhaul, but a relative falling ill and being unable to take care of a child is something that can happen to any family.
Eri was abandoned by her mom because she killed her dad. What on earth was the police doing then? Did her mom is not report this? Five seconds after the dad disappeared, the mom immediately plopped the toddler in the car seat and drove her off to Pops? Or is it more likely the mom screamed and panicked and called emergency services, but it turned out that there’s nothing to be done about the dad… and then emergency services also apparently did nothing about the mom or Girl With Newly Lethal Quirk or the beginning of quirk counseling so that the mom could understand the accident as ‘mutant quirk’ and not ‘curse’??
There were points where Eri could've been saved, before she ever bumped into Deku, before Overhaul put Pops in a coma and started cutting her up.
Similarity, saving Tenko shouldn't have just been 'Hero happened to be in the area and wasn't busy and was able to spot this injured child and go help him' (if it doesn't turns out AFO was behind this too lol), or 'if only there could've been a Hero 15 years ago who could handle his quirk, hold his hand, and give him relief'. It should've been 'first person who saw this injured child called the police or took Tenko to a police box'. It should've been 'Kotarou's last act of parenting was not to pick up garden shears and whack his kid with it, but know to keep calm and know what to do in a quirk emergency' or whatever. It should've been 'the three other adults in the household had enough conscience to not let Kotarou bully his toddler'. Hell, it should've been 'All Might and Gran kept tabs on the Shimura boy'.
idk. I just don't think 'Luckily a Hero noticed!' is good enough.

They are rotting my brain again. Psychopathic Cult Leading freaks. I love them so much and it makes me sad how badly Studio Bones fumbled them, leading to less content of them. It's not like they were ruined, but they could have been so much more, and were so much more, because the Manga is right there.
Anyhow that was all just preamble for the point of this post, Fic Recs! Any cool fics involving any combination of these characters, please! Any length, any genre, just. As long as any of these guys have the spotlight.

I know a lot of people find the religious "coexist" bumper stickers to be trite (I personally don't really), but I think I passed something objectively worse when I was driving around - a "no exist / imagine a future without religion" where the star of david occupied the X in "exist"
They've already tried that, friend, and you're about eighty years too late
What more people ought to remember is that there is a huge difference between atheism and antitheism. Quite literally, we will never live in a world without religion. We've been practicing rituals such as burial of the dead for 130,000 for instance and while it's not inherently religious, there is often a proto-religious/oughtright religious component of believing in a "final rest" which ought not be disturbed, or a soul which will carry on after life and needs to properly be put to rest. We have been crafting amulets to ward off spirits, omens, and to invite joy, peace, and security since antiquity. This idea that everyone will simultaneously abandon all religion, therefore, can only read as a cultural genocide, at least, I think. Religion is part of culture - ask me how I know! Therefore, I'm very, very skeptical of people who just say to abandon religion as a project.

okay like. i've been trying NOT to make a big long post about this because i don't want it to seem like i'm starting unnecessary discourse, but i also think the conversation brought up here is a good and interesting one to have, even if the interaction with this specific person on this specific post was unsavory.
because i keep seeing this take from many, many people that the heart killers is an adaptation of 10 things i hate about you and not of the taming of the shrew, and while i think there's merit to the idea itself, the problem i have with it specifically is how very dismissive people seem to be about the shakespeare aspects.
like, i've seen the whole "the difference is important!" and to be totally honest, i don't think the difference IS all that important. because regardless of whether jojo himself based the plot and idea of the heart killers around solely 10 things or not is honestly irrelevant - because the fact still stands that 10 things itself is based on taming of the shrew. so, there are going to be a lot of things that carry over, and there's still merit in analyzing it as a shakespeare adaptation in that way, even if some of the things from it might seem watered down.
but even beyond that, it is clear that there has been thought and effort put into the show when it comes to referencing the actual play - and other shakespeare works! - as well. i'm gonna once again link my thk x ttots tag for those that would like to take a look at all the direct parallels i've found (note: these are just the DIRECT parallels to the play that i've noticed, and i'm sure there are even plenty that i've missed and there's even a couple i can think of off the top of my head that i haven't made into parallel sets) and then i'm also going to link my taming tag as well because i've written up an awful lot of meta comparing the two at this point in a broader sense as well.
and it's not like i don't understand that not everyone is going to take note of all of these things or even think of them or understand the shakespeare of it all because not everyone has studied shakespeare or read taming and a number of people probably don't even know much about the original play. and i understand that and that's okay! but that's also why i make so many damn posts pointing out all of these things and why i want people to ask me questions about it because this show deserves the appreciation of being a shakespeare adaption! jojo and the team deserve to have these things pointed out because it's so clear how much work and thought and research went into every aspect of the original play that was incorporated into the show.
and it's just. makes me very sad how so many people are willing to dismiss that aspect of the show or call it watered down because they personally aren't catching it or because they personally prefer 10 things and view it more as adaptation of the movie. which, like i said, it's fine to view it as more prominently being a 10 things adaptation, i think there's merit to the idea and see where you're coming from. but it also doesn't negate the shakespeare of it all, either, and i just don't understand the need to dismiss that aspect. it's a huge discredit to the show to do that.

My mother filled out a statutory declaration to support me getting an authorised ADHD medication script, which required a list of ADHD traits I presented in childhood.
She did a good job. A really… thorough job.
Basically, it describes kid-me as (paraphrasing) a messy disorganised, daydreaming, know-it-all melodramatic depressed crybaby with no friends and dreadful posture who is also bad at sports (all of them).
After she finished reading it out to me, I said, “Wow, you sound like you’re taking me back to the store and harassing the manager for a refund!”
Now she’s mad at me.

Personally love the idea that gladstone is interested in the occult and paranormal in a more academic sense, but also is into new-age views on gemstones and crystals in a semi-ironic way partly bc his Luck then gets him gemstones without much expense, but mostly bc its funny watching Ludwig and Gyro get huffy abt it

Analysis - On the Skepticism of RAGE
This document examines the nature of Rage through its emotional philosophy, narrative function, and symbolic inversion of Hope. As with all aspects, Rage is not inherently good or evil, it is a lens through which characters experience the world and respond to it.
Let us now dive into what Rage truly represents, not the noise of fury, but the silence after everything you once believed has shattered.

i've watched a lot of good films lately in an attempt to catch up with a bunch of movies that have come out recently, but talk to me was the best movie i've seen in a LONG time
#i put off watching it for so long because i was sure it was overrated + i'm generally not a fan of possession movies#(because so many of them try to be the exorcist and they will never be the exorcist. you know how it is)#but holy shit. genuinely a brilliant movie in every aspect of filmmaking + completely aligned with my personal taste#+ exactly what i look for thematically in possession and/or ghost movies#+ the absolute perfect balance between psychological and gory#and like i said SUCH a good cold opening#tbh i think it's a useful trick to know how to get your audience to buy into a supernatural premise from the very first scene#i think that takes some VERY effective + skillful writing and directing#and as someone who again typically does NOT like possession movies i usually end the movie NEVER buying into the story#not because i'm a 'skeptic' or whatever just because the writing doesn't do the work#but SCENE ONE of this movie i was so in it#anyway. movee of all time to me#also from the trailers etc i had thought that that fluffy yellow sweatshirt mia wears at the beginning of the movie was a bathrobe lmao#my first impression of what this movie was gonna be like was NOT correct#anyway 'recently' means in the past 2 years i guess?#actually maybe this post was a lie because i LOVED nope which was also just an absolute cinematic masterpiece#anytime i watch a jordan peele movie it's just like. this man is so far beyond any other filmmaker out there right now#it's almost unfair to watch lol like an olympic gold medalist running laps around a middle school track team#anyway ummm. yeah talk to me was good though

dunno if this applies to anyone else who was at one point religious or tried to get into it, but a big part of why i simply can't be religious is that my madd makes it so that there is no way to decipher between a supposed message or vision from the gods and my daydreaming brain, so i literally can't trust it
i was religious for all of 3-4 months last year (dabbling in hellenic polytheism specifically) and maybe it's just the Chronic Oldest Sibling Syndrome but it was because i wanted comfort and love and hope from the gods. i was very drawn to and worshipped aphrodite and hermes who in a few myths are lovers and so they were sort of parental to me, but at what point do daydreams of them and me end and messages from them begin? at what point are they sockpuppets of my brain and at what point are they not? who's to say ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
idk i just don't have anyone in my life who i can talk to about this so tumblr can have it. hee hee

"Romanceframe CONFIRMED - as I understand it, you play as a Drifter and can romance every protoframe there is (Exalibur, Mag, Nyx, Trinity, Volt). New Incarnons: Cestra, Dera, Okina, Sicarus, Sybaris. Also, enemies in 1999 will have their own warframes. - Saw a post telling that developers use "powersuit" folder even for enemies, so this might be false. Also, the same goes for archwing - they mark every vehicle as archwing, maybe leaks just talk about the bike.

From a different blog where I sent this as an anon ask: It feels like there were different writers for each section of the game, and none of them talked to each other, so they just kept the plot and story are barebones as possible. You also notice that Zora's domain had the worst writing in terms of continuity, and Rito had the best. The story Zelda goes through is just really confusing, and feels pointless because it goes in circles, it's like the writers had actually no idea what to do. I had talked to that blog owner for like a few weeks by then, and we'd come to the conclusion about why totk's story feels so... hamfisted and empty.
Hey!
So the thing is: it's generally how most AAA writing happens (at least in western settings, I think it's also how China tend to operate as well --but not so sure about Japan tbh, so take my reply with a grain of salt). You assemble a team of writers (sometimes they are also quest designer and/or level designers, sometimes they are separate people, it completely depends on the company and the project), you brief them on the general vision from the directors so you get a sense of what's the pitch/goal and what's the budget, and then you are assigned on either a questline, a character, or a "region" in open world games.
Then you are mostly on your own and very much funneled onto your specific tasks, and only tangientially in contact with what the other groups are doing. Sometimes you have to check on with them for either consistency, or to make sure what information you introduce when, or you need to double-check what the gameplay thing actually does... But the thing is, you generally see the full details of what the others have been working on pretty late. Sometimes you get companies that do writer's room and table readings where you get to workshop each other's work as it's being written/whiteboxed, but it doesn't happen systematically. Even with games that put on a lot of weight on their narrative being their strong suit!
(which is kind of dumb, we should 100% do that more just because... it's fun, it fosters trust and a sense of accomplishement and progress, people bond over the hardships, you get perspectives you wouldn't have gotten otherwise, and also it feels much better than having an overworked and/or stressed out editor/director flatten or rewrite everything without asking for your input at the last second :) :) :) )
So anyway! All of that jazz to say that it's a pretty common practice, and it hardly makes or breaks an open-world game usually. It will limit the amount of interconnection for sure, but generally never to the point that you reject the concept of interconnection and character writing altogether.
Which is why I feel like what's happening with TotK is more a case of... I don't know, an extremely, needlessly restrictive framing put in place from the beginning by directors/producers who were afraid of the complexity going out of hand and wanting to rely on BotW's workflow instead of figuring out a new one, and/or a case of the narration going out of hand while development happened, which led to a drastic simplification and rewriting pretty late in the production cycle. It's kind of my leading theory, one I'm partially basing on the fact that they used the COVID excuse when they said the game was going to be late, and I haven't heard of a single production that used the COVID excuse to justify a delay not having *major* problems under the hood --like it took maybe 2 weeks for the game industry to adjust to COVID, tops.
Again, it's speculation! I am pretty unfamiliar with how things are done in Japan when it comes to game production, so it might all be very biased in a bad way. But, just giving my two cents!

Do any cultures in your au not believe in reincarnation?
🤔,,,
most likely all of them do as a result of the Global Religion's colonization. or because of the respawn mechanic which is undeniable- from there it is pretty easy to segway into the idea of reincarnation, combined with the fact that individual with high enlightenment/karma have very strong deja vus/visions of their past lives
