Okay so I named this sideblog "plutos-THOUGHTS-and-sketches" so it's time to take up my promise on that

This is gonna be my ancestors, elders, and a little bit of skid, spirits (I'll elaborate on them in another post) and some miscellaneous hcs that should line up together and i hope that it doesn't interfere with any lore. Buckle up this is gonna be a long one

So! Let's start off with ancestors. What are they?

I like to think that they used to be skids but then willingly gave away their light. They're just tired of existing for eternity, you know? So they dropped their eternality (they could still be killed but then would be reborn- like through eden! But there weren't any widespread methods of doing that before and they still got reborn :( ) and became a mortal species we now know as ancestors. They. Well. Reproduced. And forgot their roots. They forgot why they always feel like they're missing a major part of them (their light), and they didn't understand why light healed them and made them feel euphoric. (Note that only some light can properly heal them. Like. They're basically humans. Fire WILL burn. But, say, a manta's light will feel caressing.)

So what's up with Elders, then?

Basically! They're normal ancestors. Except, with a twist: they didn't give away ALL of their light. Only some of it, really. But it's a permanent move anyways. They continue to have limited lifespans, but they're much, much longer than normal ancestors. And some of their skid physiology (is that the right term?) kicks in, letting them grow and grow for as long as they aren't dead. (They can't be reborn, though.) (And does that mean that skids before used to be giant? Yes. Does that also mean that skids who don't eden run get to be taller? Also yes.) so they just get to be the cool guys, who remain to be above the rest, containing the knowledge and power and potential.

And now I'll elaborate a bit on some of the specifics about all of this. Healing is basically relighting another skid, and there is a whole, high paying, high status job that's basically having the right type of light that can heal others instead of burning them. (Without it, all krill attacks would have been lethal. Even then, it's expensive as hell.)

Ancestors have the lifespan of a normal human and elders are basically five times that. Magic (spells) exist and they can only be cast by the most talented, the most full of light ancestors. This means that basically all elders can do spells if they put their mind to it.

Anyways about the thing where i said they always feel like they're missing a part of themselves. So they die, wake up (I'll elaborate on that more in another post that will include my spirit hcs) and go like "wow i feel great" because eden basically inserted some light into them

They all have normal names, but the Elders that we know don't share theirs anymore with normal ancestors because of an.... Event. (This is bordering on my au stuff so we'll skip over that. Let your imagination go wild) Which means that if a skid (i hc that all skids know elder names (search sky cotl elder names if you don't know them, they have names)) suddenly calls one by their name ancestors would be confused and Elders would be flashbanged and wary

Masks are a traditional thing! Some people replace them with face markings instead and some don't wear anything at all (but those are few), which means that some cultures that are disconnected from the norm don't wear masks (like the nine colored deer spirits. Take a look. Feudal lord is the only one with an actual mask and even then you can't convince me that it isn't just giant eyebrows)

Eden exploded (shattering) from darkness corruption overload. How that happened is up to you but I hc that Resh is a skid and was tired of seeing everyone dying so he researched and came up with that solution to make everyone immortal

Thinking about it, Mufotsuki was probably very malnourished when she was young cuz like, picture this...

You are a spirit. You've been trapped inside your own body for thousands of years and once you're free, you find that your body is now more like the "memory" of a body. Long story short, you don't need to eat anymore. You don't age. You merely subsist by being, and maybe not lingering in dark water too long. You don't worry about keeping what remaining food reserves you had fresh, cuz you won't be needing them. You forget what it's like to have a meal, to cook. This continues for another hundred or so years until a baby rolls up to your residence.

It's not that special of a baby (aside from the fact they came from the sky but that's a story for another time). The fact that it's not special though raises alarm bells, because baby need to eat, and you haven't kept food around for hundreds of years. And you're not just gonna let the baby starve, are you?

Anyways moral of the story:

some sketches I made, I've been blocked artistically lately so to get the inspiration flowing a bit I've been drawing things without worrying too much about anatomy I made this page with orion, but I have two others with eko and another with serene anyway, some close-ups and infodumping

orion's hobby is wood carving, although in his case it is more like something therapeutic, it is something he does when he needs to clear his mind, he only makes small wooden animals, not very detailed.

He has an obvious strong obsession with foxes, it's something he has had since he was a child, he can't say for sure why.

He is taller than the average skykid, but he is in the range of the shortest in height among my characters.

If you look at orion he acts like a big brother to berk but at the same time he calls him his big brother. This title berk gave to himself and orion will never correct him, berk shouts from the rooftops how much he loves his brother and how proud he is of him, orion would never feel ashamed of his brother, no matter how dumb he gets to be.

This idiot feels a lot but he doesn't know about emotions, he's not your therapist friend, he's not very good at giving advice, but he knows you and cares for you, he's there when you need him but rarely knows what to say to you.

He has a bad temper, he's a bit impulsive. I've always said he's batman but lately I see him as someone who is just very sad.

kid teth and ayin but they have more distinct outfits!!! I hc that before the king ascended to power, the cultures across the realms were much more distinct, and therefore wore very different outfits from one another

The forest people usually wore lightweight sleeveless outfits and body paint, the former for comfort (since rainy forests can get crazy hot) and the latter either for cosmetic or religious reasons I didn't decide yet. They usually like to wear relatively colorful patterns for self-expression

The prairie people commonly wore plain long-ish robes for sun protection. Wearing hoods and straw hats was also a staple among them

Flitting Child and The Season of Passage

Poor Peonia ran and hid at the arms of the Passage Guide, wailing after a game of hacky sack with the young adolescents turned too violent.

Needless to say, no amount of begging or apologizing could persuade the Guide to refrain from doubling their community chores as punishment. Maybe that would teach them to be more considerate and responsible when watching over a Child of Light...

another impromptu verses to accompany the drawing ⎯⎯⎯ while it might have started with good intentions, I believe that Resh's ultimate goal was likely to overthrow Megabird and take her place as the source of Light, as he judged that her light was weakening. he comes to believe that he is the only one from who emanates the Light, and who gives life to the Kingdom. Basically that nothing could live or prosper without his existence.

Can you tell I have an obsession? Eh? Okay

Hey! Back from my little box!

I came back with a little treat about my fav silly barely in lore character resh!

Thought making of a base of how I think resh's development would be like

Early childhood: adopted by dawn elder, he was in pretty good hands, and was well loved. he often draws and collects pretty rocks in his spare time(finding dark stone in the process)

Baby 1st trauma: resh is socially awkward and very strange to an outsiders perspective, this got him bullied badly. So much so he lost an eye when being cornered, he finds himself more distrustful and careful , this also made home selectively mute

Prince: after a long and agonizing goal to achieve all the elements(colored light idk) and fulfill the prophecy, he returns with the title monarch, at the cost of his childhood and innocents

He copes with ignoring his emotional side and subjects himself to using light and dark stone and it's uses for the kingdom

Prime: resh has gained a liking to crafting/engineering and isolated himself with crafting machines, and fully covered his face to hide any forms of emotions and his appearance (he hates how he looks, and acts thanks to his childhood trauma) he keeps his reputation pretty well at this stage

Imprisonment: after losing his kingdom, people, family and his own light all because of his pride and greed, his own guilt acts as a constant chain that keeps him from reconnecting to orbit, pretty much rotting away ever so slowly

(au) rebirth: not really a interpretation of character but more of an idea on what could happen, he would finally let go near to his weakest moments and be reborn in a similar maner to present day sky kids, thought completely forgotten his past identity and simply wanders around the realm, meeting sky kids alike finally belonging in a group that could understand him (despite literally being a living fossil fuel in appearance and age lol)

That's abouty rough idea really, ask some questions I will answer eventually!
