GETTING MY FIRST JOB
The overwhelming excitement I am feeling right now is beyond words. It is a testament to the hard work I have invested and the unwavering support from my friends and family that has led me to this incredible opportunity. Although my new job as a mediator at Science Gallery Bengaluru may not directly align with my field of study, I have a strong intuition that this experience will be immensely enriching.
Discovering this internship was a stroke of luck, thanks to my friend's sibling who pointed me in the right direction. Initially, I applied in February, filled with hope, only to receive the disappointing news that I had not made it past the first round. Nonetheless, I celebrated my friend's success as she advanced to the interview stage. Little did I know that fate had something else in store for me.
In May, my friend informed me about another round of applications. Initially hesitant, I heeded my mother's advice and decided to give it another shot. With the help of my friend and her sister, my lackluster CV was transformed into a masterpiece. I am forever grateful for their talent and dedication, as my CV went from a 0 to a perfect 10.
Carefully answering the application questions, I sought guidance from my friend, who had successfully made it through. Even at the late hours of the night, she selflessly replied to my messages, and for that, I am deeply thankful. After meticulously reviewing, rechecking, and revising my application, I finally submitted it, hoping for the best.
A week later, the news arrived—I had been selected for an interview. Ecstatic doesn't even begin to describe the joy that consumed me. However, the interview coincided with my exams, leaving me with little time to prepare. I immersed myself in the handbook and watched two one-hour videos, dedicating an entire day to crafting my presentation. Despite my efforts, the interview itself turned out to be a disaster, leaving me disheartened and discouraged.
I decided to divert my focus towards my exams and temporarily forget about the outcome of the interview. It was during the celebrations of completing my first year, in a moment of pure impulse, that I checked my email, expecting a rejection letter. But to my astonishment, the email I received informed me that I had been selected! I was overwhelmed with happiness, unable to contain my smile.
Now, nearly 20 days later, I find myself holding the contract of my employment, which I eagerly signed. Throughout this journey, many individuals questioned the number of internships I was pursuing and wondered why I hadn't secured a job yet. I am proud that I did not allow these comments to affect me or my determination to succeed.
This blog post serves as a message to my future self, a reminder of my first major achievement as an 18-year-old. I want to remember the excitement, the persistence, and the belief in myself that propelled me forward. This is just the beginning, and I am excited to embark on this new chapter of growth and learning.

The Development of a Comedic Story Idea in 9 Questions
1. What point do you want to make with your story? E. G. "Making a cake is difficult but worthwhile."
2. What kind of person needs to learn this, prove this, experience this, or understand this? E. G. Person who thinks cake-makers have an easy and pointless job.
3. How can I dramatize (externalize) that kind of person? E. G. Woman who struggles to respect her husband because she discovers his secret cake-decorating hobby.
4. What would be personal hell for that person? E. G. Husband quits his super-manly job in lumberjacking to become a full-time pastry chef.
5. What kind of ritual pain can we put this person through to change her? E. G. Her husband goes on a widely-watched baking contest tv-show, and the whole world witnesses her shame.
6. What keeps her in the situation? E. G. Their whole life-savings is riding on his doing well in this contest, and then his partner on the show is hospitalized and can't go on, so she must step up, learn how to bake cakes, and become his partner.
7. What heals the wound? E.G. seeing her husband handling his frosting knife with the same aplomb he once used the axe with; seeing his back pain go away; realizing how fun it is to spend time with him baking cakes, but most of all, seeing him earn the respect of others for his skill.
8. What brings the lesson home and makes your original point? E. G. Not only does she realize how difficult it is to make cakes when she messes up on the show, but she realizes it can be a meaningful job when her husband creates a beautiful cake for her parents' anniversary, recreating their wedding cake which she had accidentally eaten as a kid.
9. What can I plant to make this more meaningful? E. G. Go back to the beginning of the story and insert a scene where the main character as a child finds random frozen piece of cake in the freezer, eats it, and then gets in huge trouble because it turns out to have been the last sliceof her parents' wedding cake they were saving for their tenth anniversary. As she sobs in her room, have her tell her dad the cake tasted gross anyhow. (It did. She throws up.) Have her not eat cake without remembering that painful incident (and bad flavor) for years, to the point she hates cake into adulthood.
Note: this is obviously a comic version but the method works for dramatic and tragic versions as well.
Another note: I based this on Brian MacDonald's book Invisible Ink.

Which are you? Usually we plan our meals out during the week so it's not a big deal, but it seems whenever we have a night that's unplanned, we spend a lot more time thinking about what to eat than actually eating.

“Roccascalegna, a medieval hamlet in the central, wild Abruzzo region, is leasing its stunning fortress for weddings, cocktail parties, birthdays, anniversaries and other once-in-a-lifetime events for...”

“This is no ordinary Italian hilltop hamlet.
Roccascalegna's castle shoots out of a shard-like horizontal basalt cliff. The rocky outcrop sits between flower meadows dotted with olive trees and barns.
It's a peaceful slice of heaven.”

“Specialties on the party menu include...Pizza Scima, (a white wine and olive oil flat bread)...fiadone ricotta cheese pie and crespelle sweet-and-sour waffles...”

“...traditional local wedding cakes such as taralli, huge sugar-powdered biscuits shaped like a princess crown that are gifted to the bride and guests. If there's a catch, it's the dress code limitations. The hike to the castle can be tough and brides would struggle to make it to the altar in a long-train wedding gown.”

"One couple couldn't stop laughing...The bride was wearing a long silk pink dress and peep-toe stilettos. The groom, barefoot, swept her up in his arms and carried her all the way up to the altar."
