Audio Drama Sunday - 12th May ✨
👻 @tellnotalespod (S2E9.5) Riley 😭 Leo 😭 There was the PERFECT amount of anger and sadness and pining in this episode. I know these two can work it out!!!! I laughed at Riley’s admission that he wasn’t planning on telling Julia either. Leo, how does it feel to be a dirty little secret? I’m so excited to see how Riley is going to act on Leo’s advice 🥺
🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (151) OOOH this episode! If Shank considers himself to be a righteous killer then . . . what did Shelby’s parents do????? And oh my god, Irene Mend is out there which means!! Diggory?!! Please?! The scene with Vincent at the end hit me like a tonne of emotionally weighty bricks. I’m taking Voltaire as an animation of Vincent’s mental health issues and, my god: the toxic co-dependence, the fear of stepping forwards into a life without it, the fear of never being free. Help me, I’m sad about puppet man.
🧳 Travelling Light @monstrousproductions (21) waah this episode was so cute and definitely made me miss my grandparents 🥹
🤴InCo by @itmeblog (S3E35-37) two thousand ambassadors???? TWO THOUSAND.
⚔️ @camlannpod season one finale!! I could cry! I have *adored* this show for the way it makes me feel seen now but also for the nostalgia of the kid who loved BBC Merlin so much 🥲 I think the team did an amazing job of tying up this first season whilst leaving enough strands loose to weave into a second!!
🖥️ The Magnus Protocol (15) Let’s not forget the real horror of this episode…. The British aristocracy.
🌞 Small Victories by @wgc-productions (2.2/2.3) Girl, DON’T do it!! I’m definitely coming at this from my own married, monogamous POV but think what makes this affair even worse is the fact that Summer is also using Marisol to process her grief. Like, she has NOT processed anything there. I don’t think there is a desire for anything stable or long term (which would be GOOD for Marisol). They are using each other and Marisol is going to lose something good in the process. Man, this is stressful.
🧋 @hinaypod (5-8) LISTEN gorgeous, gorgeous girls have GOT to stop going to antiques shops!! You’re too precious to melt into a portrait!! I’m loving the additions to the cast and listening to the spooks get spookier and the interpersonal relationships get messier is everything I could want in a show.
I hope everyone has a lovely week 💫

Athena Pallas/Minerva Deep dive
I was going to originally say Athana, but due to respect to her late friend Pallas (not the titan/giant), she will be called Pallas Athena from now on, please forgive my ignorance. To the wisest of the wise, to the goddess that tells us the wisdom, may we all cheer for her, like how men and women and all equal in war would cheer after victory.
Tumblr media
Herbs • Olive tree, Tiger lilies, geranium, oak, cypress, Hellebore (Christmas and Lenten rose), and citrus tree, walnuts, pears
Animals• owl, snake, rooster, griffins, horses (she taught men how to tame horses), female lambs, doves (as a symbol of victory), rams, eagles, tigers, leopards, and other cats (could not find why but many were in agreement.)
Zodiac • She was mostly celebrated in June/July so I would say, Gemini, Cancer, and Leo.
Colors • gold, orange, yellow, emerald green, and royal blue
Crystal• bronze, metal, gold, silver, Azurite, Iolite, ruby, star sapphire, turquoise, lapis lazuli, ivory, Amazonite, Iolite, Bloodstone, Clear Quarterrtz, onyx.

She does work well with heroes, so if you worship Hercules or Perseus I would put her alter near them, I would not put her near Arachne and keep her alter away from spider areas, etc. Keep her altar clean and orderly. Prayer To Athena by Liz “Morning Dove” La Posta
Oh, wise Athena with your spear and shield, protect me and my family from injustice and harm. Council me with your wisdom so that I may make the best decisions. Grant me success in my endeavors, but keep me humble so that I might not become condescending to others. I thank you for the many times you have guided me on my Path. Share with me your mysteries and I will do my best to follow. Athena my Goddess, I pray this in your sacred name, and I vow to always be your faithful dedicant.
Prayer to Athena for Wisdom
Clear-eyed Athena, unrivaled in wisdom, daughter of Zeus and Metis whose craft and wit excelled among the mighty Titans: Athena, I pray to you. Wise in all things you are, goddess; your cunning and guile are well known. In time of war you have no equal in tactics or in strategy; many armies have you guided to victory. In time of peace your blessings fall on those whose work is of the mind–friend of the philosopher, the scientist, the student. Advisor of kings, patron of clever heroes and bold-hearted adventurers, defender of the thinker, mistress of reason and understanding, goddess to whom a strong arm and a sharp sword are nothing without the sense to wield them well and the insight to know when words are worth more than weapons. Athena, grant me a sound mind and steady temper, bless me with good judgment, show me the long view.

October 29, 1923: The first radio broadcast in Germany goes on air
Radio had a rough start in Germany. At the end of World War I, where the German army was among the pioneers in radio communication, during the November Revolution, revolutionary workers occupied the headquarters of the German press and news service, falsely claiming the victory of the communist and socialist revolutionary forces. This made the social democratic government to impose harsh restrictions on radio broadcast, which severely hampered the development of the new medium in Germany:
Only the state had the sovereign right of to set up and operate transmitting and receiving systems
Private individuals were prohibited to receive any radio broadcast
Receivers were limited in their technical characteristics, supported by a requirement for state approval for any new model
This led to the state-controlled postal service becoming a monopolist serving a small number of (mostly public) institutions. Nonetheless, the first entertainment broadcast was distributed at Christmas 1920, when postal employees brought instruments to the broadcast center in Königs Wusterhausen (south of Berlin), played music and recited poems.
After heavy lobbying by radio pioneers such as Hans Bredow, complaints and public discontent and increasing numbers of illegal self-made private receivers, which frequently caused interferences, the harsh restrictions were finally lifted in 1923. Each owner of a state-approved receiver had to register as a "radio participant" and pay a license fee. In autumn of 1923, at the height of the inflation, a license cost 780 billion Mark per year, a sum that only very few were able and willing to afford. Thst's why the first broadcast by Funk-Stunde Berlin from a studio in the Vox House on October 29, 1923 has no (paying) listeners. The first registered participant was Berlin tobacco retailer Wilhelm Kollhoff, who received his license and his radio on October 31.
Rapidly, a number of radio stations opened throughout Germany, which were consolidated under the umbrella organization "Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft".
Infamously, radio became the main propaganda instrument of the Nazis, who quickly forced all radio stations into line, sending the liberal radio pioneers to the first concentration camps. The development and widespread distribution of a cheap radio receiver, the "Volksempfänger" ("people's receiver"), made radio a medium for the masses. Nonetheless, only 46.9 % of the German households had a radio in 1937, compared with the USA or the UK, which had already a density of 78.3 % and 66.1 %, respectively.
After World War II, radio developed differently in East and West Germany. Radio in East Germany remained state-controlled, sending communist propaganda now. In the West, organizations under public law were founded in the federal states, funded by fees of radio users and controlled by bodies in which the relevant societal groups are equally represented. In the 1980s, private radio stations were allowed.
Because Germany received only very few AM frequencies as part of the sactions after World War II, development of FM radio was accelerated, leading to new standards in the quality of transmission and HiFi stereo radio. Radio established itself as a promoter of culture in the area of literature and music. The stations set up symphonic and dance orchestras, big bands, choirs, and elaborate audioplay studios. They were also pioneering promoters of electronic music. In the recent years, however, the importance of radio as promoters of high culture has diminished more and more. With the exceptions of a few stations, radio is regarded as background entertainment for people who cannot stand silence.
In the future, it is expected that the split between music and entertainment, high culture, and information will will deepen. Radio as a promotor of culture will probably not play a role any more. Taking over podcast productions may revive the role of radio as an opinion-forming medium. Radio is still unrivalled as the fastest medium, being able to provide the latest news virtually in real-time.

Continuing my Audio Drama Recommendations based on Non-Podcast Faves series, a show that is very dear to my heart:
Hello from the Hallowoods
Premise:  In the forests of Northern Canada at the end of the world, the survivors of an eldritch apocalypse band together to survive, scraping meaning and community and joy from a world turned dark and strange by an eldritch apocalypse.  Few touched by the black rains remain unchanged--or even quite human--and the dead tend to not stay dead.  Most of humanity has shut itself away in a virtual world, but the malicious megacorporation that keeps it is not the only power invested in what plays out in these woods.
For if you like:
Over the Garden Wall - The Hallowoods may be filled with horrors, but the story is just so damn cozy.  It has that same eerie, dark warmth that makes Over the Garden Wall a favorite, particularly the pumpkin episode where the things that are frightening and welcoming may be one and the same.  Also like OTGW, Hallowoods loves to work through complex feelings and relationships through its spooky setting.
Discworld (/Good Omens) - This is mainly for two things I love about Pratchett’s writing: the profound wrapped up in the strange, and the catharsis of age-old tropes turned inside-out.  Fans of the Death series will find obvious things to love, but also: imagine the queerness of Monstrous Regiment multiplied by ten thousand.  And without giving away too much about my favorite subplot, it follows a demon sent on a celestial audit of earth and catching more feelings than he signed up for--I KNOW a lot of you would would love it.  And on a structural note, Hallowoods’ dozens of points of view overlap to create a complex, compelling whole with something for everyone--and you don’t even need a reading flowchart for it!
Don’t Starve Together - This one’s just pure and simple vibes, but oh are they TASTY.  Found family huddled together in creepy, sinister forests, finding small victories in putting together a garden and handful of bee boxes, or sharing a meal with a friend?  No joke whenever I play Don’t Starve these days I just pretend I’m building the Hallowoods Scoutpost.  Complete with local beloved ghost.
I got like ten suggestions from friends when putting this together, but wanted to keep this concise--feel free to reblog and add on with your own comparisons!  I’ve lured at least one person to this show over “what if Frankenstein’s Creature got love and support”!
Warning:  The show delves into topics like religious trauma and queerphobia, including a queerphobic fundamentalist as the central season 1 villain.  This can be pretty rough to listen to in the 20-28 span in particular.

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Dungeons and Daddies (Podcast) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Jodie "Joe" Foster/Ron Stampler Characters: Jodie "Joe" Foster (Dungeons and Daddies), Ron Stampler Additional Tags: RonmanceWeekend, Established Relationship, Ice Cream, Dates, Fluff, Banter, Jealousy, Park date Summary:
“Oh. I didn’t even know that truck arrived.” “You didn’t hear the song?” Jodie asked, not as surprised as he could’ve been, and Ron stared at the brightly colored truck. It was silent now, a small line of kids leading up to the open window while their parents handed over some dollars. “Guess not,” Ron answered after a moment and Jodie nudged him back so that he could stand. “I want an ice cream sandwich.” “Sounds good.” Their hands tangled together and for some reason, dumb enough that even Jodie wasn’t sure why he did it, he shot a vicious glance back at the toy poodle. It was licking at its own crotch, completely oblivious to the victory that Jodie had manufactured inside his head. Jodie took a moment to ask himself why he was like this.

On this day, 28 March 1939, the "Stanbrook" ship departed from Alicante carrying around 3,500 refugees fleeing Spain following right-wing general Francisco Franco's victory in the civil war. It was one of several ships which departed along with a flotilla of small civilian vessels, laden with defeated anti-fascist fighters and their families. The "Stanbrook" became the most famous as its captain, Archibald Dixon, had refused instructions by Socialist Party and Communist Party officials to leave the harbour, stating that he would not depart until he was sure that it had taken as many refugees as possible. It eventually left at 10:45 PM, travelling to the North African French colonies, where many of the refugees were promptly interned in concentration camps and used as forced labour in the Sahara desert. Two of "Stanbrook" passengers, numbers 764 (Juan Beneito Casanova) and 1797 (Vicente Ruiz Gutiérrez), were Spanish anarchists who eventually settled in Australia, where they and other exiles established numerous Spanish-speaking anarchist organisations and publications.
