you don`t get how "i don`t care how brilliant she is" phrase is so deeply important to me cause spike is practically the only character through out the show who openly establishes and admits, to his own displeasure, that buffy summers is a really smart and bright person, who constantly one ups him and leaves him completely astonished by the schemes she so easily pulls off. willow maybe is another character who gets quite close to praising buffy`s intelligence, but she often sounds almost suprised by it, and we know that she likes being the superior one brains wise anyway. but to spike theres no surprise at all, he studied her closely, he sees her, he knows that a quick mind is needed for fighting unpredictable mosnters and you have to think on the spot, mid blow what your next 3 moves should be to not only gain control over the situation, but to use the space for your own advantage and defeat the opponent - and any other person would simply crumble under such pressure (we see everytime with the scoobies when they try to do buffy`s job).

buffy summers IS smart, she IS brilliant, she is the one who comes up with the most successful plans, she is the one on whom people rely (c`mon, wwbd exists because of that), she is able to simultaneously fight and come up with the wittiest and funniest puns - and you need to be quite clever to be this sharp and quick-witted. i wouldn`t even say that she is not booksmart but a street smart, cause under the right circumstances and with the right professors on her favourite topics she has a potential to be willow`s level book smart: we saw it when she got a pretty big score on her final exam at school, she loves poetry and clearly fascinated with language (william, heeeey~)we saw it in wild at hearts when professor walsh wanted her to lead the discussion, willow and buffy even had a bit of debate. she can be it, she just constantly gets discouraged by people in power around her cause they don`t want to give her the benefit of the doubt, cause they only see her as trouble, cause she gets easily distracted, cause they all are prejudiced as hell and don`t want to be proven wrong.

and i think buffy is quite used to such treatment which truly breaks my heart. so to one person to recognise her brillance despite all those obstacles is so incredibly important and touching because he sees her without that judgement and he doesn`t even know the impact he has with that vision of her. and even though he doesn`t say it directly to her and this scene follows by a funny transition (which i also like!), but it is so significant that somebody finally utters such words towards buffy.

There's this way of doing female-ness in Christianity that I call "pastel flower journal Christianity." I've got nothing against pastel flower journals per se, but for some reason people believe it's the end all and be all of female spirituality, and I think it's a real disservice towards young Christian women.

One of these days I'd like to start a prayer-and-reading group or something for young women, but there would be no floral themes or over-focus on how "God thinks you're beautiful even if the world doesn't" (a true statement, but it's wayyyyy too often the focus in women's spiritual reading). Instead we would be reading:

Seneca's Letters from a Stoic

Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning

Sheed's A Map of Life

Portions of Pieper's book on leisure

Kreeft's Three Philosophies of Life

Guardini's The Lord (or something similar)

Therese's Story of a Soul

and some select portions of the Nicomachean Ethics.

(Also they're all getting the porn talk. I don't know why we give the porn talk to young men but not young women. There's this idea that women don't use porn and they only need the talk about "guarding their heart." Bullshit. There's porn on the YA shelves of Barnes and Nobles and before that there were bodice rippers. Young women need the porn talk too.)

Every young woman needs to be getting a basic grounding in virtue ethics, logic, natural law, scholastic philosophy and Biblical hermeneutics if they're going to get by in today's spiritual landscape. Enough faffery and emotionalism in young women's spiritual education! Give them real food to chew on, not pasty sentimentalism!

I wish they'd kept a bit more of his personality from the book, because Merry is quite smart.

His relationship to Frodo (though they are cousins) reads more like Cambridge school-chums. Like he's the resident prankster and class-clown due to being both smart and bored.

He fits the type in Regency literature of the guy who's technically in the upper class by title and connections, but whose family's estate is in Ireland or Scotland - an outsider. A gentleman, but not as respectable as the more conventional.

The Brandybucks are like that, too - considered the odd, frontier hobbits compared with the rest.

The concept of Gansey making a surprise visit to Harvard is one I enjoy immensely for a lot of reasons but the funniest one is the concept of Crying Club meeting Gansey and witnessing his dynamic with Adam and Adam is ofc spending these interactions going *they will know I am an imposter they will clock the fact that I'm wearing a Gansey skin suit -- I mean lightly borrowing from him here. They will witness Gansey in his golden, glorious splendour, the way his smile would make the sun and stars feel dim and want to do his bidding, his effortless beauty and charm, and know I am a pretender". Meanwhile the crying club isn't thinking of that at all and is doing what any normal queer friend group would do; clocking the homoeroticism on sight, doing their best to get as many details as possible, spends the next several months after Gansey leaves privately talking about and theorizing about what went on with them, and mercilessly tease Adam about it when Gansey is not around.

Maybe I'm projecting too much of my desperation to graduate and get out of school unto Ford but I do not think he was a good student nor did he enjoy Backupsmore as like, the concept of an academic institution, lol.

The entire reason he justified leaving Stan behind was the amazing and innovative programs at West Coast Tech. Then he gets to Backupsmore and it's all underfunded programs and gen ed requirements? Can you imagine the crash out when a professor told him they don't take underclassmen in their lab, no matter how smart they are? Can you imagine him sitting through calc 1, 2, and 3 for the second time because his high school credits didn't transfer? He let his brother cheat through all of high school--- you know he was the GO TO for people who were too hungover or lazy to figure out their homework on a Sunday afternoon before it was due.

This is a guy who craves being in the field so bad he let his best friend get regularly traumatized just for The Science (Sorry, Fiddleford). We don't know for sure that he didn't publish anything while in Gravity Falls but it sure doesn't seem like it--- he's definitely the guy that has super high standards for other people's papers and articles but HATES writing his own. He loves the idea of writing but the academic paper process makes him hate himself (even more than usual). This is a guy who deep down just wanted to go sailing with his brother the whole time--- he is NOT sitting peacefully through a fundamental physics lab, he IS blowing something up, even when it shouldn't be possible. That man probably got into a near fistfight with the Dean trying to get his academic track sped up to graduate early. The admin office hated him. The physicists professors got into arguments about whether he was the best or worst student of all time. Nowadays, when you whisper Stanford Pines to the ancient physics department head, he shudders and holds his delicate lab machinery close. He's haunted by what was.

If the demigods ever went to school (or maybe one of those Mortal Au where they all meet in High School) I could totally see Lou Ellen,Clovis and Nico being part of the "Quiet Kids" gang but in different way.

Clovis is the quiet kid that sleep in the back of the classroom,but when the teachers calls him to ask him questions about the lessons he answer them and is always 100% right. Same for the tests. He will be the first one to complete them and then he will do his own things,while waiting for the other to finish.

Lou Ellen is the quiet kid that is really into witchcraft and a lot of hobby. The alligation of "weird kid" never left her and she always knew the most out of pocket things ever. Never question her about those. Surprisingly she is also really into psychology and is street smart.

Nico is the quiet kid that is extremely kind once you get to know him,and is really loyal to his friends. He is rich and very talented,but tries to stay under the teachers and students's radars,because he doesn't like attentions. The art class is the place where you have to go to find him.

Few people know that they are friends because they barely interact in class,but once you are their friends and know about their friendship,you will always see the little things they do for each other.

Lou Ellen is often Nico's seatmate so Nico can feel grounded to a familiar presence when he gets overwhelmed. Nico help Lou Ellen when she start to panick about dead-lines and he help her study,pulling all-nighters.

Nico always bring 2 packed lunches,one for himself and another for Clovis,because the boy can't doesn't remember that eating is one of the things that keeps him alive. Clovis is always nearby Nico and is the first one to understand if he isn't feeling well or is ill,so he tries to cheer him up.

Lou Ellen drags Clovis at least 3 times at week out of his apartment,to make sure that he is alive,and they often spend a couple of hours in the late evening together because of this. Clovis pass his notes to Lou Ellen in class,because he know that his friend's attention span is completely useless when it cames to something that isn't phycology.

All of three of them have mandatory late night walk,where they often buy snacks in shops (Nico's paying because he is rich) and eat them in parks. All of three of them have pajama party in Nico's place because it's comfortable,big and safe for them all. They all have matching bracelets with their favorite colors (Amethyst for Lou,Polo Blue for Clovis and Silver for Nico). During finals they study together,pulling all-nighters and feeding themselves only with energy drinks (Lou Ellen's body is already 90% coffee and they don't want to make her addiction worse) and spite,they always end up in the Top 10,with some of the best score in the school.

They indulge into each other's interests and enable each other: Clovis and Nico help Lou in whatever weekly ritual she is trying to do; Clovis and Lou are always ready to be Nico's subject for a drawing; Nico and Lou indulge Clovis's love for literature and they even have plays in Nico's place.

They mostly stay with each other but they also have connections outside of their little group. It's just that most of the time they find themselves together and they stick together because they understand each other very well and are on the same wavelength.

You’ve clearly picked up that they didn’t actually go to college. I don’t think Moonie’s even finished high school, which makes this ask especially hard to answer for him. Moon struggles with a traditional school setting… or maybe rather school struggles with him 😝. Though neither of them are especially great students.

BUT for the purposes of the ask I would say the Moon’s probably gonna go for something like mechanical or electrical engineering. Very hands on and practical work. More likely tho he’s going to trade school or even flight school!

Sunny I could see going a few different routes—but my favorite is a major in education with a focus in special education!

not speaking for everyone but for me its annoying when people come on here and complain about every English word ever. the word slow now is considered offensive? I am slow. I have a learning disability, and it legit takes me more time to figure shit out. i will reread things three or four times, sometimes i dont get it the firth time and I need it to be explained to me. I excel in other things, and I have major weaknesses in others. I know I am slow. I describe myself as that when talking to someone who tells me a joke and I dont get it right away i be like IM SLOW OKAY EXPLAIN IT lmao CUZ ITS TRUE? its not even these ppl being called slow, its literally complaining about said ppl calling themselves slow. what else am I gonna say ??
