Dragon posts for Smaugust.

The Maple Leaf Drake is a small to medium sized woodland dragon that populates temperate forests across the globe. Their unique body morphology allows them to hide, almost seamlessly, amongst vast maple forests. This physiological adaptation also extends to seasonal color changes throughout the year. They will live their lives hidden amongst the leaves, using their long proboscis bill to pierce through the bark of Maple Trees to extract the sweet sap, which makes up the majority of it’s diet. 

Incredibly skittish, the Fearful Precious Red Coral Drake lives it’s life hidden amongst Red Coral. It’s long proboscis-like mouth snatching up small unsuspecting pray.

A gigantic Axolotl dragon has taken residence on an island village one early morning, much to the village's dismay!  Whilst being incredibly large and exceptionally powerful, these dragons are incredibly docile and their curiosity often brings them into contact with inhabited areas. An oil painting I originally started in February that I worked on between client work which finally finished last month. Oils on panel 16x24"

I'm very late with the Smaugust, but, I try my best for this ! This is a wip of the day 6, m'y baby Cubitus pop in this story for the Ice element !

A somewhat recent digital painting of a purple cosmic dragon as it flows amongst planets and stars. This was painted with a specific color palette to practice use of limited/specific color to build a scene.

I had fun with the more loose, swirly shape of this dragon's design, and seeing how the colors work together was really interesting.

Day 10 - Pine [Human AU]

Dream purses his lips, ignoring the deep brown eyes staring into him as he puts eyeliner around them. How someone named Robert Gadling, much less with the nickname of Hob, became a renowned model with names like that ― well, he found out when it was time to work with him.

It would’ve been easier if Hob Gadling was like the normal models he worked with ― usually with an attitude, being a bit of bitch ― which is fine, since he’s not exactly nice himself. But Hob is nice and pleasant and has made the crew of the photoshoot burst into laughter countless times since it’s started, and the part of him that isn’t wildly attracted to the man, hates him on principle. 

“Thank you,” Hob says, earnestly as lined eyes blink at him, and Dream pauses as he gets out a mascara.

“What for?” He asks, neutral as touches the stubble of Hob’s jaw, and Dream tries not to think about how soft the brown-grey beard is as he applies the mascara with precision.

“For making me look pretty,” Hob replies, and Dream feels his face heat as he scowls, raising an eyebrow once the mascara’s done.

“Are you fishing for compliments?” He asks, voice cold as he gets out a shiny lip gloss, and he’s stopped by warm hands covering his, thumbs softly rubbing the inside of his wrist, and Dream resists the urge to shiver, the spiky leather jacket and fishnet shirt underneath showing copious amounts of hair on Hob’s chest, and, right, this is why he was looking so pointedly at Hob’s face. Not that it was any better. The ripped leather jeans and clunky black boots, with Hob’s knees pressing into his legs is also ― not better. 

“This isn’t my usual style, I’m more―” one of Hob’s hand gestures, “fancy menswear than this, so it’s a bit nerve-wracking.” 

Dream purses his lips, his hatred melting in the face of Hob’s honesty, “it’ll be fine,” he says, tone clipped. “Now shut up so I can put this on you,” at this, Hob’s mouth shuts, brown eyes rueful as they stare at him. Dream ruthlessly pushes down the part of him that desperately wants to climb into Hob’s lap and mess up his freshly applied makeup, or even hear what Hob sounds like in the throes of pleasure, his own hands in that dark hair, in the thatch of chest hair, black eyes staring down at him as he― 

Make-up finally done, Hob goes off to the scene, and Dream’s heart tries its best to calm down as he looks at Hob, pining for the warmth that was so close ― before he shakes his head and turns his back to clean his area.

While some species of dragons fiercely guard their hatchlings from would-be predators, others give no parental care at all. But nest robbers, be warned - this is because those hatchlings are perfectly capable of dispatching would-be predators themselves.

Final mammalian dragon design this year.

The first dragon created by a god, the god's worshippers asked it for a beast that would destroy their enemies in flames, strength and velocity. So the god created this creature, it has echolocation to find its enemies anywhere, bat wings to outpace any mount, strong jaws and body to destroy armor and fire to burn their fields and villages.

I've never done the Smaugust Art Challenge before, and I had a lot of fun with it! I know there's prompt lists floating around for it, but I like the freedom of just having an excuse to focus on drawing dragons for a month as a challenge, without having to follow specific prompts.

Monster/creature art isn't something I do very often now, so it was a nice change of pace. In middle school pretty much all I drew was dragons so it's nice to be a little self indulgent and go back to that hahaha
