How to connect VLC on Apple TV to Windows 11's folder share system thingie
Turns out a total of none of the strategies I could find online worked. To the best of my current knowledge, the fix is Windows Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced sharing settings → All networks → Password-protected sharing → Off.
Tumblr media
So from what I can tell, there's no (longer a?) need to try all sorts of stuff like enabling SMB1, setting RegEdits / group policies / PowerShell commands, or figuring out the incomprehensible "SMB authentication required" screen thingie.

Weird, they've already added the new Melodious support to their database, maybe you need to reinstall from the link provided by their Discord or something, 'cuz they SHOULD be there for sure...
I love your art, pal! I know you've got a tendency for self-deprecation, but even your so-called scribbles are a pure joy to look at from how much effort you put into them! I just wanted you to know that 😊

I'm fascinated by this bizarrely bad video essay
youtube
1. What is going on with this guy's delivery? It's like he's treating commas as periods and vice versa. Like the bit at 4:31, for example.
An unknown threat actor began working fast in secret to turn EternalBlue into a worm. A self-propagating virus engineered to traverse networks autonomously. Hunting for one vulnerable port in particular. This doorway, utilized by SMB. Stands for "Server Message Block". Needs to be version one. In specific. It's a transport protocol. Facilitates remote services, like printers and file sharing. More importantly, it's open to the internet. [...]
What's going on with all these sentences omitting their subjects? Why would you ever write like this? Why would would keep writing like that for another three paragraphs?
2. What on earth is this camera? Like seriously I'm getting straight up motion sick trying to watch this, does it ever stop zooming or panning? Does this guy even have an editor?
3. It's plagiarized! Of course it's plagiarized. Compare, for example, this section at 14:32--
Then, on a quiet Wednesday, after days of relentless partying and drinking, Marcus stepped out of the mansion to collect a McDonald's order from an Uber driver. That's when he spotted a black SUV. It reminded him of an FBI vehicle, but in his inebriated state he brushed off the suspicion and returned inside to continue his indulgences. Rolled another spliff of that fine legal Nevada weed. Ate his burger, and began packing for his return to the UK.
--to this excerpt from Wired's article "The Confessions of Marcus Hutchins, the Hacker Who Saved the Internet".
At around 7 am on a quiet Wednesday in August 2017, Marcus Hutchins walked out the front door of the Airbnb mansion in Las Vegas where he had been partying for the past week and a half. A gangly, 6'4", 23-year-old hacker with an explosion of blond-brown curls, Hutchins had emerged to retrieve his order of a Big Mac and fries from an Uber Eats deliveryman. But as he stood barefoot on the mansion's driveway wearing only a T-shirt and jeans, Hutchins noticed a black SUV parked on the street—one that looked very much like an FBI stakeout. He stared at the vehicle blankly, his mind still hazed from sleep deprivation and stoned from the legalized Nevada weed he'd been smoking all night. For a fleeting moment, he wondered: Is this finally it? But as soon as the thought surfaced, he dismissed it. The FBI would never be so obvious, he told himself. His feet had begun to scald on the griddle of the driveway. So he grabbed the McDonald's bag and headed back inside, through the mansion's courtyard, and into the pool house he'd been using as a bedroom. With the specter of the SUV fully exorcised from his mind, he rolled another spliff with the last of his weed, smoked it as he ate his burger, and then packed his bags for the airport, where he was scheduled for a first-class flight home to the UK.
I mean really, man? Come on. What are we even doing here?
Also: I'm straight up laughing my ass off at "Rolled another spliff of that legal Nevada weed." It's such a stupid (para)phrasing, it doesn't flow whatsoever, and it makes him sound like a forty year old school principle giving a D.A.R.E lecture. I love it.
Anyways, don't watch this video.
Unless you want a good giggle.

What is the Difference Between VPS and Dedicated Server Hosting?
Introduction
When it comes to hosting websites or applications, businesses and individuals face a crucial decision: choosing the right type of hosting that meets their needs in terms of performance, security, and cost. Among the most popular options are Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting and Dedicated Server hosting. This article aims to provide a comprehensive comparison of VPS and Dedicated Server hosting, discussing their features, advantages, and use cases to help you make an informed decision.
Understanding VPS Hosting
Definition and Architecture
A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a virtualized server that mimics a dedicated server environment within a shared hosting environment. The key technology behind VPS is virtualization, which uses a hypervisor to divide a physical server into multiple virtual servers. Each VPS operates independently, with its own operating system, resources, and isolated file system.
Features of VPS Hosting
Isolation and Security: Despite being on a shared physical server, each VPS instance is isolated from others, providing a secure environment. This isolation ensures that the actions of one VPS do not affect the performance or security of others.
Resource Allocation: VPS hosting allocates specific amounts of CPU, RAM, and storage to each VPS instance. These resources are dedicated to the VPS, ensuring consistent performance.
Customization and Control: Users have root access to their VPS, allowing them to install and configure software and settings as needed. This level of control is akin to having a dedicated server.
Scalability: VPS hosting offers flexibility in scaling resources. Users can easily upgrade or downgrade their resource allocation based on their needs without significant downtime.
Cost-Effectiveness: VPS hosting is generally more affordable than dedicated hosting, making it an attractive option for small to medium-sized businesses and developers.
Use Cases for VPS Hosting
Small to Medium-Sized Businesses (SMBs): Businesses that require reliable hosting with dedicated resources but cannot justify the cost of a dedicated server.
Developers and Programmers: Ideal for testing environments, development projects, and hosting applications that need specific configurations.
E-Commerce Websites: Online stores that need a balance of performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
Growing Websites: Websites experiencing increased traffic that outgrow shared hosting plans but do not yet require the power of a dedicated server.
Understanding Dedicated Server Hosting
Definition and Architecture
A Dedicated Server is a physical server exclusively rented by a single client. Unlike VPS hosting, where multiple users share the same physical hardware, a dedicated server provides full access to all of the server's resources. This setup eliminates the need for a hypervisor, allowing direct hardware access.
Features of Dedicated Server Hosting
Exclusive Resource Use: All the server's CPU, RAM, storage, and bandwidth are exclusively available to the client, providing maximum performance and reliability.
Enhanced Performance: Dedicated servers can handle high-traffic websites and resource-intensive applications due to their powerful hardware and dedicated resources.
Customization and Control: Clients have complete control over the server's hardware and software configuration. This includes choosing the operating system, hardware components, and installing custom software.
Security and Compliance: Dedicated servers offer higher security levels, making them suitable for industries requiring strict compliance with data protection regulations. Clients can implement advanced security measures tailored to their needs.
Reliability and Stability: With no other users on the server, dedicated hosting provides consistent performance without the risk of resource contention.
Use Cases for Dedicated Server Hosting
Large Enterprises: Companies with substantial online presence, requiring robust performance and high security.
High-Traffic Websites: Websites with significant daily traffic, such as news portals, social media platforms, and popular blogs.
Resource-Intensive Applications: Applications that demand extensive computational power, storage, and memory, such as gaming servers, data analytics, and large databases.
Compliance-Sensitive Businesses: Organizations in finance, healthcare, and other sectors with strict regulatory requirements for data handling and security.
Key Differences Between VPS and Dedicated Server Hosting
Performance and Resources
VPS Hosting: Provides allocated resources within a shared environment. Performance is generally good but can be affected by the physical server's overall load.
Dedicated Hosting: Offers exclusive access to the entire server's resources, ensuring maximum performance and stability.
Cost
VPS Hosting: More affordable due to shared physical hardware. Ideal for smaller budgets.
Dedicated Hosting: Higher cost reflects the exclusive use of physical hardware. Suitable for larger budgets and businesses needing top performance.
Scalability
VPS Hosting: Easily scalable by upgrading resources within the virtual environment. Ideal for growing businesses.
Dedicated Hosting: Scaling can be more complex and costly, often requiring physical upgrades or migration to a new server.
Control and Customization
VPS Hosting: Offers significant control with root access, but some limitations due to shared physical resources.
Dedicated Hosting: Provides complete control over hardware and software configurations, with no restrictions.
Security
VPS Hosting: Isolated environment provides good security, but shared physical server can introduce risks.
Dedicated Hosting: Higher security due to exclusive use of hardware, with the ability to implement advanced security measures.
Reliability and Stability
VPS Hosting: Generally reliable, but performance can fluctuate based on the physical server's load.
Dedicated Hosting: Offers unmatched reliability with no risk of performance being impacted by other users.
Choosing Between VPS and Dedicated Server Hosting
Assessing Your Needs
When choosing between VPS and Dedicated Server hosting, consider the following factors:
Budget: Determine how much you are willing to spend on hosting. VPS is cost-effective, while dedicated hosting offers premium performance at a higher cost.
Resource Requirements: Evaluate your website or application's resource needs, including CPU, RAM, storage, and bandwidth. High-demand applications may require dedicated hosting.
Traffic Volume: Consider your current and projected traffic. High-traffic websites benefit from the stability and performance of dedicated servers.
Security and Compliance: Assess the level of security required for your data. Industries with strict compliance standards may need the enhanced security of dedicated hosting.
Scalability: Plan for future growth. VPS hosting offers flexible scalability, while dedicated hosting may require more planning and investment for scaling.
Technical Expertise: Determine your ability to manage and configure the server. VPS hosting is easier to manage, while dedicated hosting offers greater control but may require advanced technical skills.
Practical Scenarios
Small Business Launching an E-Commerce Site: A VPS can provide a cost-effective solution with sufficient resources and security to start and grow.
Established Enterprise with High Traffic: A dedicated server ensures consistent performance, security, and control over the hosting environment.
Growing Blog with Increasing Traffic: Starting with a VPS allows scalability without high initial costs. Transitioning to a dedicated server can be considered as traffic continues to grow.
Developer Testing and Staging Environment: A VPS offers an isolated environment to test and develop applications without the overhead of a dedicated server.
Conclusion
Choosing between VPS and Dedicated Server hosting involves understanding the unique features and benefits of each. VPS hosting offers a balanced solution with good performance, scalability, and affordability, making it ideal for small to medium-sized businesses and developers. In contrast, Dedicated Server hosting provides unparalleled performance, control, and security, suitable for large enterprises, high-traffic websites, and resource-intensive applications.
Carefully assessing your needs, budget, and future growth plans will help you determine the best hosting option for your specific requirements. Whether you choose VPS or Dedicated Server hosting, both options provide robust solutions to ensure your website or application runs smoothly and efficiently.

Like OS/390, z/OS combines a number of formerly separate, related products, some of which are still optional. z/OS has the attributes of modern operating systems but also retains much of the older functionality originated in the 1960s and still in regular use—z/OS is designed for backward compatibility.
Major characteristics
z/OS supports[NB 2] stable mainframe facilities such as CICS, COBOL, IMS, PL/I, IBM Db2, RACF, SNA, IBM MQ, record-oriented data access methods, REXX, CLIST, SMP/E, JCL, TSO/E, and ISPF, among others.
z/OS also ships with a 64-bit Java runtime, C/C++ compiler based on the LLVM open-source Clang infrastructure,[3] and UNIX (Single UNIX Specification) APIs and applications through UNIX System Services – The Open Group certifies z/OS as a compliant UNIX operating system – with UNIX/Linux-style hierarchical HFS[NB 3][NB 4] and zFS file systems. These compatibilities make z/OS capable of running a range of commercial and open source software.[4] z/OS can communicate directly via TCP/IP, including IPv6,[5] and includes standard HTTP servers (one from Lotus, the other Apache-derived) along with other common services such as SSH, FTP, NFS, and CIFS/SMB. z/OS is designed for high quality of service (QoS), even within a single operating system instance, and has built-in Parallel Sysplex clustering capability.
Actually, that is wayyy too exciting for a bedtime story! I remember using the internet on a unix terminal long before the world wide web. They were very excited by email, but it didn't impress me much. Browers changed the world.

Combining SOC & Fractional CISO: How SMBs Can Win Big on Cybersecurity
Tumblr media
Cybersecurity is no longer just a “big company” problem. In fact, small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) are now the prime targets. Why? Because attackers know smaller companies often lack the same resources, teams, and budgets as enterprise giants. But that doesn’t mean they have to settle for second-best protection.
Enter the perfect pairing: a Security Operations Center (SOC) + a Fractional CISO.
This combo has quietly become the secret weapon for forward-thinking SMBs that want enterprise-grade security—without the enterprise-sized cost.
Why SMBs Are Under the Cybersecurity Microscope
Nearly half of all cyberattacks hit small businesses. But many still think they’re not big enough to be targeted. However, vulnerabilities are more important to hackers than a company's size. An overlooked patch, an insecure password, or an unattended server is all it takes.
Unfortunately, most SMBs face:
No full-time security expert on payroll
Little to no monitoring after office hours
Generic antivirus solutions (at best)
Delayed responses during a breach
So, where do they turn? Increasingly, to outsourced security expertise that scales with their business.
What is a SOC (Security Operations Center)?
A SOC is like your digital command center. It monitors your systems, endpoints, networks, and cloud environments 24/7, scanning for threats in real-time. Think of it as your night guard, always watching—even when you’re not.
NetObjex’s Managed SOC services go beyond alerts:
We investigate threats deeply, not just flag them.
We neutralize issues before they escalate.
We give your team a break—no more burnout from false alarms.
And What’s a Fractional CISO?
Hiring a full-time Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) can cost upward of $200,000 per year—a steep ask for most SMBs.
A Fractional CISO offers the same strategic leadership but on a flexible, part-time basis. You get a seasoned security expert who:
Builds and enforces your security roadmap
Ensures compliance with regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, or ISO27001
Advises your board or leadership team
Guides incident response and recovery
They’re your cybersecurity captain—without the full-time payroll burden.
Why This Combo Works: SOC + Fractional CISO
On their own, a Security Operations Center (SOC) and a Fractional CISO offer powerful support. But when combined, they deliver complete, round-the-clock cybersecurity for your business.
Here’s how they complement each other:
While the SOC monitors your systems 24/7, the Fractional CISO focuses on building a long-term security strategy tailored to your business.
As the SOC detects threats and stops them in real time, the CISO ensures your organization follows the right policies and stays compliant with regulations.
The SOC provides real-time visibility into suspicious activity, while the CISO translates those insights into executive decisions and risk management plans.
Simply put, the SOC guards your gates—and the CISO draws the map.
Together, they ensure your business is secure today and prepared for tomorrow.
Real Wins for SMBs
Let’s break it down:
24/7 Protection: Your systems don’t sleep. Neither should your defense.
Expertise on Demand: Tap into CISO-level insights only when needed.
Scalability: As you scale, your security scales with you.
Regulatory Peace of Mind: Stay audit-ready without the stress.
Faster Incident Response: Cut down breach response time from days to minutes.
The best part is that you only have to pay for what you need.
Why NetObjex?
At NetObjex, we think cybersecurity is not a luxury but a necessity. And we're committed to democratizing it for companies of all sizes.
We deliver:
An experienced, worldwide SOC team that monitors threats around-the-clock
CISO-level professionals who’ve handled complex, high-stakes security landscapes
Custom packages tailored for SMBs—not bloated enterprise pricing
We’ve helped clients across healthcare, logistics, fintech, and SaaS tighten their security posture without breaking the bank.
Final Word
If you’re a growing business, you can’t afford to wait until “later” to build cybersecurity maturity. The stakes are too high.
But you also don’t need to do it alone—or overspend.
With a SOC + Fractional CISO model, SMBs now have the ability to protect, comply, scale, and respond like a large enterprise—without hiring an army.
This isn’t about playing defense. It’s about being strategically proactive.
Ready to Strengthen Your Cybersecurity?
Let NetObjex help you build the right security setup—smart, flexible, and easy on your budget.

Schwachstelle in Thunderbird Mail
Vorsicht!
