Omgggg I just love the hawks request you did it was amazing and sooo good imma request something similar to it but with DABI/ Touya todoroki can you do where the reader and Touya as children like yk childhood friends both grew up with parents who abused them and one day Touya was about to get beaten badly in training and the reader took it for them ( timeskip when they learnt Touya died they were absolutely sadand almost suicide? And DABI finds her in time and they just talk and confess? <333 :)

AAAAAA I LOVE THIS IDEA!! Personally, even though Dabi isn't my fav character I love his backstory. I just find it so interesting.

Back from the dead

Summary: you and touya todoroki grew up together and were both victims of brutal parenting. However, when you took the punishment for Touya it was the final straw... he wasn't Touya anymore...

Life was difficult.

It always had been.

Your entire life you were told you would be nothing, your parents beat you into submission until no motivation ever sparked within you other than to be what they wanted. They wanted a hero. The next number one, just like allmight. They didn't want another version of endeavor, but a capable young hero who could fight any villain and take them down with ease.

Your parents weren't pro heroes, both were rejected by UA and didn't pass the hero course for any other school. It crushed them. But also drove them to insanity. Everything they had ever worked for in their childhood come crashing down within a short period of their lives, that is how the both met. However, when they had you they saw a sadistic glimmer of hope. Hope that their 'spawn' could do what they couldn't and hope that their child could live out their dream for them.

And so they would train you. And train you. And train you. Until you couldn't walk, talk and sometimes even eat due to exhaustion. But once they realised they could no longer give you any more training boosts due to their lack of experience, they handed you off to the number 2, endeavour. Even though they despised him, if that is what they had to do to make you strong.... they were going to make you do it.

And there you met Touya. A young boy, the same age as you, with aspirations and dreams of becoming the hero his father wanted him to be. However, like your parents, they taught this motivation through sadistic punishments and abusive training.

It was obvious the kid was worn out. Burn scars scorched his arms and even his face. It confused you, but also made you protective of him. You hated how overworked he was. You hated to see him get hurt. Ofcourse you wouldn't tell anyone this, knowing your sadistic parents they would threaten his life to motivate you.

One day it was the usual training. Your parents dropped you off at the number 2's house, with only a single bottle of water and a small dirt kids towel. Your overgrown and unkept hair was in an uncomfortably tight messy bun and your limbs ached from the previous days grueling training.

The day started off as normal: using your quirk until you couldn't do it anymore or collapse from exhaustion. Your quirk is called manipulation, it allows you to manipulate the shapes of near by non living objects, fir example you could make a smooth rock spiky. However, your quirk took a lot of focus and energy, so far you could only use your quirk on objects as large as a vase, you were only young.

Touya was next to you, hot flames spewing from his hands and arms. Singing his skin and burning the near by area... that was until he noticed his dads near by ornament fall and shatter on the ground.

Was this ornament important to endeavor? No. But would he still be pissed? Yes.

Fear immediately clouded Touya's mind....

"Nonononono" his panicked cries began to fill the room as you ran over to him, his cries would only alert endeavour sooner. Not because endeavour would be worried for him, but because endeavour would be angry at whatever he had done.

"Touya calm down. Here, I'll sweep it u-"

You barely had time to look up when you hear the sound of the door slam and angry heavy footsteps head towards the training room. Oh no. He's heard.

The door slammed open and silence cascaded over the room. Everything went still as time began to slow, the only sound you could hear was your heart thumping against your rib cage. Touya was going to get hurt.... and you hated that.

"Touya..... did you break the ornament?" He was calm at first. Some may see this as a good sign, but you two know better. He was going to explode any minute, he was a ticking time bomb waiting to blow.

"DID YOU BREAK THE FUCKING THING?" His voice was raised, his steps heading towards the two of you.

He raised his hand, ready to hit his son until your voice chimed in. Weak and unconfident you stood in front of your chest friend as you spoke.

"It was me... I broke it."

Silence filled the room. The scowl on his face grew deeper as he grabbed onto your arm with force.

"You know what's going to happen. Don't tell a fucking soul, you hear me?"

.....

After around 10 minutes you left the backroom, beaten and bloodied. Ofcourse, it wasn't to a severe extent, but still enough to hurt and be noticed by any possible strangers.

Touya didn't speak to you for the rest of the day.... and the next day training was cancelled...

Touya was dead.... death by fire. It was suicide. You knew it.

(TIME SKIP, CURRENT TIME)

The fall from the bridge seemed welcoming. You had got no where in life, running away from your parents at the age of 16 you found yourself helpless and homeless years later.

Recently, you discovered everything was a lie... Toiya wasn't dead... well the Touya you knew was. But the body if him was alive, just being controlled by a man who goes by the name "Dabi". You didn't want to accept that ot was your friend, you didn't want to accept the fact that you still liked him. He was a murderer... you should hate him. But what you hated even more was how you pitied endeavour, the abuser who tortured you two and lead his own son to 'suicide'. He had changed, but you will never forgive him.

The hopelessness and confusion in your life was too much. You let the cool air whip against your face for the final few minutes, you might as well enjoy the last moments in your life. Ironically, it was peaceful, you never really got peace before. And it had to be your final moments that ot decided to make an appearance.

Now was the time. The time to end this miserable life. The time to end the memories and pain that tormented you for years. You would never have to get hurt again, the pain will just stop and never appear. No one will miss you, your friend is gone and your family was never there. Tears began to pour down your face as you realised your life was nothing but a misery... you never even lived. You just survived...

You took a step closer to the ledge.

Until you felt a harsh tug pull you back and force you onto the concrete floor.

"OW WHAT THE HELL?!"

Your head shot up to glare at who ever pulled you down to the ground. But your blood ran cold as a white haired 5'9 figure covered in burn scars stood in front of you...

"D-dabi."

Shock overwhelmed your system, the tears ran down your face faster as you come face to face with your 'dead' best friend. The boy who abandoned you all those years ago..... the man who you never got over...

"Come on now, you know that's not my name." His smile creased his face and wrinkled his scars a little and his held out his hand to you. Warily, you took his hand and allowed him to pull you up. Should you trust him? He was a murderer.... but he was your friend.....

"Long time no see, huh?" He chuckled a little bit. Was this a fucking normal meeting for him. Is he making a guxking joke out of this.... after he abandoned you all those years ago, just to become some low life thug who murders people. INNOCENT PEOPLE.

"What the fuck? Is this funny to you? You think this is funny? Laughing when you left me all those years ago. Laughing when you become this.... a- a... A monster, a freak who murderers out of revenge? Fuck you."

Anger shot through you. You don't care if this gets you killed, either he will do it or you'll do it yourself. He was a monster. A killer. Everything you ever despised in one person. A person you used to love turned into a revenge crazed maniac who kills the innocent.

Surprise flooded his features as you rammed a finger into his chest.

"YOU KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE. YOU HAVE PROBABLY KILLED FUCKING CHILDREN! Who the hell do you think you are coming to see me after what, 5 to 10 years? FUCK I don't even remember anymore because I don't see the point in keeping track of the days I had to live thinking you died! You're a monster...."

Your figure began to crumple, your tough exterior caving in as your pent up emotions broke free from their cage. You collapsed into his arms as he ran a soothing hand down your back. You were so confused.... you were angry yet happy. Sad at what he had become but proud of his strength to fight back...

"Why did you leave me Touya? I c-could of saved you..."

The cool breeze blew against the two of you as Touya continued running soothing strokes down your back. Suprisingly, he was guilty. But he wasn't here to see you upset. He was here to get you, save you, help you. He was here to take you to the LOV, his new family.

"I know I left, but I'm here now. I'm taking you to the League, but I promise they won't hurt you. They are family, you want to change the world right? Fix society? That's our goal too. We have all been hurt one way or another.... but please. Come with me. Let me make up for the time we have missed out on so far, let me be the man you need."

You looked up at him, your eyes sore from crying and nose running. Slowly, you nodded. His warm embrace was welcoming, the first hug you have had in at least 5 years.

"Okay...... but you have to take ms out on a date first." A small goggle escaped your lips as you expected a disgusted face to scrunch his features.

But instead...

"Sure, but we're heading over to the LOV hide out right now sweetheart."

Surprise filled your features as be smiled again, his smile just like his old self.

....

Maybe the new Touya wasn't that bad... maybe the old Touya never left...

Anon thank you so much for reading my beloved eremika stories! i am so glad that you enjoyed them. there are so many versions of eremika that take up space in my head - childhood em, high school em, eren-is-a-screwup-modern-au, vamp-au em, gosh i can go on forever. 

tbh i really really do want to still write em. especially now with snk getting more and more exciting with every chapter the EM feels are STRONG. but basically i fell prey to some writer anxiety and some “my fics are so shitty compared to other awesome authors” bs and i kinda stopped for a bit. 

but 2020 has been good to me and i am back. and because i am so grateful for your readership and support (and all the others who have been so lovely about my work), i wanted to share this recent excerpt from my wips folder. i have no idea if its just trash, but is completely self-indulgent, dramatic and angsty, and features eremika +arumika so my fav kind. here you go ~

"You never told me," he says, his voice faint from the corner of the room, where he leans against the wall, his golden hair bathed in the pale moonlight. 

"Armin," Eren exclaims, startled, "I didn't see you there." He's just out of the shower, hot beads of water growing cold on his skin as he sees the strangest expression on his best friend's face, blank and somewhat stony, something he has never seen before. 

"Anyway," he teases lightly, "what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with Mikasa right now?" 

"I don't know." Armin has never sounded this far away and it scares him. He shouldn't be here, standing so eerily in the corner like a ghost, with that haunted look in his eyes... on his wedding night.

"Why didn't you tell me Eren?"  

A cold dread sweeps through him. Had Mikasa told him after all? Had she decided the extent of their debauchery was too dirty a secret to keep from her husband?

It’s the darker voice in his mind that wonders, had she told him how many times he had taken her that night and how much she had loved it, how many times she had screamed his name?

His cheeks burn at the memory, a scarlet visual that he cannot bring himself to regret, for he does not regret anything more than the fact that he could not make her his, that this illicit liaison of theirs was one that would never happen again, that her touch, warm and passionate that it was, was something he would never have the pleasure of experiencing ever again. 

Even now when Armin stands in front of him asking him questions that he probably shouldn't, and there is guilt, true and justified on his features, guilt that he deserves to feel, the smallest fraction of his heart throbs with remorseless sorrow because the woman he loves would never be his. 

Because that one day, and night, those precious hours Eren had spent with her in his arms were as good as an illusion. She had made her choice, and it wasn't him. 

But he feigns ignorance anyway. "What are you talking about? Are you okay?”

“Me? Today I married the girl I’ve loved my entire life,” the sarcasm dripped right through, “… I’m great!”

He can’t stop the bitterness that creeps into his voice. “I thought everything went really well today, didn’t it? Everyone was gushing about what a perfect wedding it was… what a perfect bride.”

“She really is, isn’t she?” Armin’s voice is cold, his ice-blue gaze unflinching. "I’m sure you thought so. As for the wedding… it’s not exactly perfect when the best man spends the entire evening staring at the bride." Armin's laugh is harsh, forced, seeking humor where there is none. 

"It's not normal when the man who's giving her away holds onto her so tight, like he never wants to let go." 

"I'm not stupid, Eren," his voice cracks a little, hysterical with the weight of truth that he has seen on his wedding day. 

"You've never been stupid Armin," Eren says quietly, the oppressive feeling of guilt now unlocked from its cage consuming him entirely. 

He looks at his best friend, still fresh in his wedding suit, neat bow and everything, hair swept back, shoulders broad and tall. he sees the despair etched on every single one of Armin's honest, beautiful features, tearing at him from within. 

He’d just said his vows to the girl he always dreamed of marrying, and never ever had Eren seen anyone more miserable. 

So he does his best to crack up a smile. "It's not that big of a deal, you know," he says lightly, "besides, we would have been terrible together. Too much fighting." He crinkles his nose in mock disgust. 

Armin doesn't look convinced, he looks the same, desperate, guilty, like he's the one who's done something wrong, and it kills Eren.

It slays him. Because never, not for one second has he been even one tenth of the friend that Armin deserves. Especially not yesterday, when his hands had been so greedy to cover every inch of Armin’s now-wife roaming, kneading their way to her pleasure.

"If she had known, maybe..." 

Maybe she would have changed her mind, is what he wants to say but the thought chokes in his throat. But Eren knows what he's thinking and he's quick to reassure him. "She wouldn't have chosen this life if she didn't love you." 

But It isn't love for me when she looks at you the that way, the same way you look at her, like everyone else is just background noise, he thinks, but he doesn't say it because he knows the truth in those words, and fears it will only amplify when spoken out loud.

There is no more of this that Eren can bear, this self-righteous guilt and sadness and despair flowing out of Armin. He's tried to be happy for him, and her, because this will keep them inside the walls, or at the very least within the realms of society as they knew it… a life far safer than the journey he would set forth upon. 

It killed him when he had to see Armin kiss her, hesitant, soft, the lightest smile playing out at his lips and answering breath from hers, but he forced himself to watch. 

He had forced the spears further into himself untill he had thought he would be sick, sick with hatred and jealousy and all things impure. 

But he had watched faithfully and tried to work up a smile because this was the happiness of his two most precious people and he would protect it. 

And now Armin stood in front of him, miserable, as if he were ruined, as if the one person he had desired above everything was taken away from him. 

It was something that Eren could not bear any longer. He would tell Armin all of this, if he had thought it would bring him peace but it wouldn't, it would just shatter their relationship and everything it meant to him. 

So he turns away, signalling an end to this conversation. 

"Go to your wife," and the bitterness is loud, screaming in Eren's words, splintering harshly. "She's probably waiting for you."

KE fic that I read and I liked

it feels silly to call this a “Killing Eve Fic Rec List”. I am like, the worst person to ask for recommendations because I truly read so little fanfic. I read far less than I write. I’m the worst. DOWN, DOWN, UNDER THE EARTH GOES ANOTHER LOVER by Vaultdweller - 90k words - Rated M

This is one of my all-time favorites. I call it a parallel-universe version of Season 1. Imagine Killing Eve, but there’s no Niko, Villanelle’s sent to kill Eve herself from the start, and Eve is also much more competent and dangerous right off the bat. Beautifully written with tons of excitement, and all villaneve all the time. There is also a sequel currently in progress.

EVERY ROSE by Fixy - 104k words - Rated E

Eve is a tattoo artist and Villanelle owns a flower shop next door. They are in a nasty prank war. Slow burn, Enemies to Friends to Lovers. The premise sounds odd at first but it fits better than I ever could’ve expected. The belligerent sexual tension is delicious, the softness is delicious, the smut is delicious.

QUID PRO QUO by Fixy - 128k words - Rated E

Eve seeks divorce from asshole!Niko and Villanelle is her lawyer. Honestly the divorce plot is not my fav thing but the quality of the romance more than makes up for it. Forbidden love, but hoo boy the love is strong. Slow burn, but when it gets there it GETS THERE. +1 for including Eve’s vampire kink :)

A RIPENING OF SORTS by creampuffs - 30k words - not rated

This is the first villaneve fic I ever read, and the first one that made me actually, maybe believe they could be in a stable relationship of any kind. It’s post season 2, Villanelle tending to Eve while she recovers from her wound. It’s kind of domestic fluff, but also heavily deals with the trauma that Eve experienced from 2x08 and everything leading up to it. Altogether, lovely.

it’s a baby fic but as fucked up as villaneve deserve. Eve gets pregnant while still married to Niko and shrugs and decides to keep it. Villanelle appears and turns out to be a better parent than either Eve or Niko. But she’s still Villanelle. It’s heartwarming and horrifying at the same time, but it’s one of the only scenarios of Eve and V with a baby that I can buy.

a “first impressions” review instead of a straight up review since my opinions will def change over time

RARE:

i’ve been listening to the demo for over a year and it’s so cool to see how different it sounds w her voice

“burning toast in the toaster” is such an offbeat lyric. almost jarring in its banality, i love it

the glo up from revival to this....... going from wondering “maybe i should be more like her” in perfect to shouting “i’m not gonna beg for you, i’m not gonna let you make me cry, not getting enough from you, didn’t you know i’m hard to find?” we love a liberated queen so much

this is super fun and great but i played the shit out of the demo in 2018 which makes it feel a lil less exciting. i should have waited rip. still love it tho.

actually, almost a return to stars dance at moments???? in a way more mature, fully realized way... which is so cool when the whole theme of the album and its imagery seems to be looking back at your past self and celebrating yourself for overcoming so much, and also, like she said taylor told her, reclaiming the happiness that has been taken from you and letting yourself return to a happier version of yourself, the truest version of yourself that wasn’t being pulled down and abused. like stars dance was her big dance edm record and i know it’s not a celebrated work of hers lol but there is so much beauty in making a song that says “feels so good to dance again” and going back to that sound for 1 song, remembering what it’s like to feel light, to just dance.

absolutely the rawest, most vulnerable track in her discography, which is saying a lot

“in 2 months you replaced us like it was easy, made me think i deserved it in the thick of healing”

i think what i love so much about this era, about the things that she’s saying in interviews, about the messages she’s sharing in these lyrics so far, is like... not apologizing to her abuser, not making excuses for him, not letting his actions destroy her confidence. comparing the lyrics of revival to this, it’s so clear that there’s been such a change in mentality, such a maturing process, that revival was very much still in the midst of it all and that it’s finally over now. no “i’ll always have love for him,” no “everything happens for a reason,” no “i miss you,” no “what did i do wrong?” there is SO much strength in saying “actually, you know what i really didn’t deserve that and i do not love you anymore and losing you is the best thing that ever happened to me” and simply leaving it at that. forgiveness and love is NOT always essential to moving on!! sometimes that chronic forgiveness is just detrimental and the best thing u can do for yourself is say “FUCK YOU” and leave.

Eurovision 2017: Initial Thoughts (3/13)

Now that the songs for all the participating countries are announced, here are my initial impressions of each piece. The stand-out entries (so far) are in in bold, and the ones in italics are ones I’m keeping my eyes on in the coming weeks but didn’t quite make the mark. 

In alphabetical order:

ALBANIA - Lindita “World” - On first listen, I liked it, but it didn’t really leave a lasting impression on me. Above average Eurovision ballad, but nothing more.

ARMENIA - Artsvik “Fly With Me” -  Okay song, forgettable.

AUSTRALIA -  Isaiah Firebrace “Don’t come easy” - Australia brings it again! 3 for 3 from down under since they joined Eurovision. Only heard the music video version though so I’m curious how he will do in live performance. It definitely didn’t impress me nearly as much as Dami Im’s did last year, but I was sold on her live performance last year, not the recorded version.

AUSTRIA -  Nathan Trent “Running on air” - Thoroughly average pop ballad with good energy and beat, but it’s been growing on me. A LOT. I blame it on the gorgeous Austrian mountain backdrop in the music video. Austria should definitely keep that up in the live staging if they know what’s good for them. I can’t be the only one sold on the scenery porn.

AZERBAIJAN -  DiHaj “Skeletons” - Good, but didn’t make much of an impact on me. Withholding further commentary until I listen to it more.

BELARUS - NaviBand “Historyja Majho Zyccia” - A charming little piece, bonus points for not singing in English. I don’t see it winning Eurovision, but it’s absolutely delightful to listen to.

BELGIUM -  Blanche “City lights” - Love it! Though not as much as a lot of other people seem to. It’s unique and ethereal and showcases her voice very well, but it’s a bit one-tone and kind of resembles dozens of other songs in the same style. Not to mention that it will fit right in among the Skins soundtrack. That said, I see it doing very well and it’ll be a much-welcomed breath of fresh air after listening to generic eurovision ballad after generic eurovision ballad.

BULGARIA - Kristian Kostov “Beautiful mess” - A lot better than I expected, but to be entirely honest my expectations were very low going in. It will depend on his live performance I expect.

CROATIA -  Jacques Houdek “My friend” - Nice, but boring.

CYPRUS - Hovig “Gravity” - Powerful, energetic song that can do extremely well with the right staging, (like Russia 2016 or Sweden 2015, though this one is definitely more along the veins of the former rather than later. That might be my fondness for Mans talking though). 

CZECH REPUBLIC -  Martina Bárta “My turn” - Um, no. Not feeling it at all. I don’t know if anything can fix this one. 

DENMARK - Anja “Where I Am” - I like her voice, I like her performance, I like everything except this boring snoozefest of a song. There are those ballads of yesteryear that were propelled to high rankings by a phenomenal performance, but this one is just too average for that to happen. It might carry her past the semis on a good night but I won’t hold my breath for anything more than that.

ESTONIA - Koit Toome & Laura  “Verona” - Sounds a bit retro, but not in a bad way. Laura’s facial expression during the chorus bothers me a bit though.

FINLAND -  Norma John “Blackbird” - I love Finland for always taking a risk. Doesn’t always work but I appreciate the effort even if the song crashes and burns spectacularly. Wonderfully dark and definitely something I would listen to normally but I’m not sure if it will keep my attention sufficiently enough during a lengthy (Semi-)final. 

FRANCE - Alma “Requiem” - One of my personal favs this year. Fell in love with the tune from the start. Would I had preferred it if they stuck with the original version? Hell yes. Do I think version with English added is as horrendous as everybody says, not really but everything will depend on the live performance I think. I’m 100% behind another song but I’ll be hoping and praying that she does well in the final.  

GEORGIA -  Tako Gachechiladze “Keep the faith” - This song annoys me greatly. 

GERMANY - Levina “Perfect life” - I have to stop forgiving otherwise-generic pop tunes for having lyrics that tick my fancy despite everything. That said, it could have been worse.

GREECE - Demy “This is love” - Good but a bit too generic. 

HUNGARY -  Joci Pápai “Origo” - Not exactly my cup of tea at first listen, but it’s rapidly growing on me, to the point that it’s squeezing past other entries to be one of my favs before I knew it. Can do without the rap; it’s extremely jarring. That chorus though. SUPERB.

ICELAND - Svala “Paper” - I quite like it, but don’t exactly love it (yet?). Need to give it a few more listens but I can see it growing on me a lot more in the coming weeks.

IRELAND -  Brendan Murray “Dying to try” - It’s growing on me. Mostly because of his voice. The song itself is a bit forgettable but not so disastrously average that it can’t be salvaged by a live performance that knocks it out of the park. But even so the left side of the final voting table might be a bit of a stretch.

ISRAEL -  Imri Ziv “I feel alive” - It’s okay but doesn’t stay in your memory for long.

ITALY -  Francesco Gabbani “Occidentali’s Karma” - Remember what I said about being 100% behind one song? WELL THIS IS IT! I was already sold by the joyous, fun, and all-around spectacular performance at San Remo, but then I read the lyrics. AND I AM BLOWN AWAY. This man is a genius. This is Italian pop at its very best even without understanding the lyrics, complete with a staging that can do very well in Kyiv. But with the lyrics? Such a clever critique of Western appropriation and commercialization of Eastern philosophies disguised as a perfect explosion of effervescent joy. My only worries: he needs to do some major cutting to make it fit within the time limit, and there won’t be a live orchestra in Kyiv for the “ale!” moment with raised bows, so I’m crossing my fingers that everything will come together perfectly even with these restraints, and that there will be improvements in the staging that help carry the messages in the lyrics across to a non-Italian-speaking audience. (and the length of this alone is a testament of how much more I love this one above all other entries. Italy2018 please!)

LATVIA - Triana Park “Line” - Latvia’s been on a roll since Aminata! It’s not quite on the level of the last two years imho, but great song nonetheless.

LITHUANIA -  Fusedmarc “Rain of revolution” - ...Aaaaaand right from my most favorite to least. No. Just, no. 

MACEDONIA -  Jana Burčeska “Dance alone” - I won’t cringe if it comes on while I’m partying at a club, but I won’t love the DJ for putting it on either.

MALTA -  Claudia Faniello “Breathlessly” - Another boring ballad stuck in the dead zone between “not bad” and “not great.”

MOLDOVA -  SunStroke Project “Hey, Mamma!” - Oh this is fun! I can dance to this one. Not masterpiece material but it doesn’t aspire to be one either. It brings the party, and that’s all it needs to do for a job well-done, I’d say.

MONTENEGRO -  Slavko Kalezić “Space” - I would rather spend the time staring into blank space. No thanks. 

THE NETHERLANDS -  OG3NE “Lights and shadows” - Like Estonia’s entry, this one is also a bit retro, with a dash of Glee thrown in as well. I know I definitely want them to qualify, and probably even end up on the left side of the chart during the finals, but something about the song just doesn’t quite do it for me.

NORWAY - JOWST “Grab the moment” - It’s growing on me. A lot of Norway’s songs tend to be growers for me. I don’t think it will quite get there though. 

POLAND - Kasia Moś “Flashlight” - This can either be a dark horse or a disaster depending on how she performs live and the staging. I fell in love with the music video version but the live version from the national final left me a bit flat. We’ll wait and see I suppose. 

PORTUGAL -  Salvador Sobral “Amar Pelos Dois” - Marvellously quaint, reminiscent of one’s best dreams under the Mediterranean sky, best enjoyed with headphones and your eyes closed...WAIT. “Your eyes closed?” Yeah, that’s my main worry with this song. Someone please get that boy a good stylist so that he doesn’t look like a library-dwelling classics major pulled on-stage last minute after a week of all-nighters. And add some better staging too. But, yeah, best wishes for a top-five finish Portugal!

ROMANIA -  Ilinca feat. Alex Florea “Yodel it!” - I am reminded of how much I came to love “My Slowanie” from Poland. It never pretends to be anything deep or profound, but Ilinca just sells it so well. 

RUSSIA -  Yulia Samoylova “Flame is burning” - Funny that Russia chose a song with this title... Politics and transparent appeal for sympathy points to counteract booing and flaming aside, it’s an okay song and she’s not necessarily a bad singer, but by GOD if you can’t even fake passable English by hiring any half-way decent diction coach then stick to Russian!

SAN MARINO -  Valentina Monetta & Jimmie Wilson “Spirit of the night” - It’s fine, I guess. Just heard it again in the last hour but already forgot how it went.

SERBIA -  Tijana Bogićević “In too deep” - See last comment.

SLOVENIA -  Omar Naber “On my way” - *Facepalm*. Enough said.

SPAIN -  Manel Navarro “Do it for your lover” - Makes the last one I commented on sound decent, if not good, by comparison.

SWEDEN -  Robin Bengtsson “I can’t go on” - What happened Sweden? You’ve been going downhill since Mans in 2015. I always want to vote for Sweden because they host it so well but this definitely sound like they are trying their hardest to avoid Sweden2018. Not even my everlasting love for Petra (+Mans) as the host will make this less cringeworthy. 

SWITZERLAND -  Timebelle “Apollo” - I quite like it. Despite myself. The red dress she wore during live performance certainly doesn’t hurt. 

UKRAINE -  O.Torvald “Time” - Definitely refreshing, and mad points to Ukraine for the second entry in a row that’s different from the Eurovision norm, but this isn’t exactly good rock is it? 

UNITED KINGDOM -  Lucie Jones “Never give up on you” - Good showing for UK. In general? Not so much. Kind of like Denmark this year, really, with a combination of good vocalist and subpar song, but this song is a step (or two. or three) down from Denmark’s.

So That Got Weird by Amelia Kingston <— BACK ON THE LIST ’cause Shara loved it too!

Shara: Just finished “So that got weird” by Amelia Kingston. She’s a new author to me and I really enjoyed the book! Completely recommend.

The Host by Stephanie Meyer <— WE LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH so when the big news was hinted at for Stephenie Meyer, many were hoping it might be for more of this! Not that it NEEDS a sequel (it reads well as a standalone but… we loved it so much, how could we not want more?)

Meredith: Don’t get me wrong because I loved Twilight but I would much rather have a sequel to The Host. The first time I read it it, I closed the book, hugged it to my chest and tried to figure out what to do next….which was to immediately start rereading it.  I still get the same feeling every time I read it now, I 100% don’t want it to be over.

Taylor: Meredith, I was literally here to say this. I WANT A HOST SEQUEL

Bonnie: Meredith, by far her best book. There’s so much potential there, even if the sequel was a totally different group in the same universe.

Maryse: OMG I CRIED AND CRIED during the Host. One of my favorite books ever!!!!!!! I even had to stop in the middle – watched a funny movie – and when I picked it back up, I immediately started sobbing again.

Erin: Meredith, saaaame. The Host was great.

Viola: I agree. …I would rather have more of the Host. I have read that book too many times to count. Just love it.

Meredith: Viola, I’ve read it so many times, I own the hardcover (which I actually bought after borrowing it from a friend for my first 2 read through a and needed my own copy), the paperback (which had the extra scene) AND the kindle (because I wanted to read it and didn’t have either physical version on hand).

Viola: Meredith, yep brilliant.

Heather: I love The Twilight Saga but I have yet to read The Host.

Meredith: Heather, OMG GO READ IT!!!! You will not be sorry. Maryse linked her review up above and it’s spot on. It does start slow but it’s like a slow burn love story. Takes a minute to get there but once you are it’s perfection. I remember I had raved about to both my sisters and when they were reading it they both texted being like when does this pick up. I told both to just keep going and when they got to the end they understood why I loved it so much. I promise you won’t be disappointed!!

Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier <— PSYCH-THRILLER & SHIRLEY LOVED IT!!

Shirley: Little Secrets was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! Highly recommend on audio…the narrator was terrific. SO many twists and turns, I could never guess what was going to happen next! This will definitely be one of my fav’s for 2020! Maryse, you have to read/listen to this. 5++++ stars!

(Seriously though, I’m really happy you’re back <3)

I didn’t even like Saiko that much when I first got into Re (she was like the least interesting Q to me), and now she’s one of my favs. Literally one of the only people who doesn’t have a nasty side. Urie/Saiko is now my OTP and if Ishida makes Urie sacrifice himself for Mutsuki or something I SWEAR I’LL DROP THIS MANGA (only we all know I won’t ;-;)

Yep, seriously. Touken has really bad timing. At this rate we can be sure their kid will choose to be born in the middle of a raging battle. (Why does that actually sound like a possible option)

Poor Shuu. I firmly believe that he’s going to confront Kaneki about Kanae at some point, and Kaneki will be forced to realize that just because he’s in love with Touka and is going to have a family now, doesn’t mean that he can just ignore everyone else around him.

WOW. Wait, who is that? Which anime/manga is he from??? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him before… (those gifs are really cool 0.0)

Is it bad that I want to read the Kaneki Pamphlet.

Tatsuo would roast Shuu so badly tbh. You know he’s super passive-aggressive…

(I’ve only read a few chapters of HxH so far because I was so busy with FMA, but it seems interesting! The art isn’t very good and it has a very typical shounen-ish vibe, but the character designs are cool and the setting is interesting (I also can’t wait to actually meet all my problematic favs, because despite only just getting into the fandom Hisoka (AKA basically the HxH version of anime Tsukiyama- only, instead of wanting to eat the MC he wants to turn the MC into the strongest warrior and then fight him, ‘cause apparently violence and fighting a good opponent turns him on) and Illumi (AKA coldblooded assassin who’s obsessed with his little brother and just…has a lot of issues) are already my problematic favs.)

I also have a huge crush on Lust and Olivier. Those two are just amazing. Though it’s a more complicated crush than the one I have on Scar because tbh, to me, Olivier and Lust are scarier than him XD so a mixture of fear and desperate ‘NOTICE ME PLZ SENPAI’ thing? lol

Yeah, from what I’m seeing so far Scar is getting a lot of cool development and I’m really happy about it :)

Ok, this is just like with Urie/Luna and Shuu-Evans. LET ME MAKE HEADCANONS FOR THE QUEEN

Mustang/Luna:

-The first time you meet he immediately tries to hit on you. Unfortunately, Queen Luna is way too sarcastic and sassy for this loser and rejects him.

-He accepts that he’s been rejected, but he finds you even more interesting now and tries to make friends. That’s how you get to know each other.

-There’s a TON of sarcastic banter in this relationship.

-Though he’ll probably never admit it, Roy is impressed with how much you know/study and considers you one of the smartest, most dedicated people he knows. He truly respects you for that.

-He likes watching/listening when you play the piano. Sometimes he asks you to play a particular song and once you offered to teach him how to play- though that lesson somehow ended with a burning piano

-Later actually falls in love with you and decides he must ask you out, only to realize that he’s super nervous about ruining the friendship. He has to rely on Riza for help, and she suggests asking Edward as well, since 'teenagers seem to know more about romance these days’. Needless to say it does not go well

-Somehow, you do end up as a couple.

-After you become a couple:

-Roy often buys flowers for you, especially when he’s busy and hasn’t been able to see you that much. Eventually your house is swamped with flowers and you tell him that simple notes/letters are just fine.

-(doesn’t stop him from buying complex bouquets and asking you to figure out the flower meanings. If he gets you to blush with all the romantic flower language he won’t stop teasing you about it.)

-He always tries to take you on the most extravagant dates ever and sometimes you have to convince him that yes, just cuddling at home with a movie is also great and he doesn’t have to try so hard to impress you.

-Gets pouty when he finds out you have a thing for guys who wear glasses. Immediately buys some fake glasses for himself

-There isn’t a lot of open affection, since you’re an introvert and Roy may be a flirt but he isn’t quite the type who can make deep, touching, genuine speeches about how much he loves you and why. However, he has his own way of showing that he cares.

-He spends as much time with you as he can and either calls you or writes letters when work keeps him busy; he lets you know that you are one of the most important people in his world.

-Will spoil you to the point where other people tell him that you can’t just spend that much money on presents for your girlfriend, but he doesn’t care as long as you like the gifts.

-Sometimes worries that you’re too good for someone like him and that you’d be better off with someone else; actually tried to break up with you over this once but you managed to convince him to stay.

-He also loves talking about alchemy with you if you’re interested; if he ever teaches you some, you turn out to be a fast learner and he’s very, very proud (probably goes around showing off his genius girlfriend to everyone else)

(I’d like to make Greedling HCs too but unfortunately I can’t say I know him that well yet. I’ll definitely write some when I read more of the manga though ^^)

I’m also a bit terrified of Kimblee XD he IS very interesting though. I don’t like him at all but I love how how complex he is.

Tatsuo is totally Sloth. He finds everything tiring. As long as Naomi survives and he has blood wine he just doesn’t care.

*slams hands on the table* EVANS DO YOU BY ANY CHANCE PLAY OTOME GAMES, CAUSE I HAVE DESCENDED BACK INTO OTOME HELL, EVEN THOUGH I WAS SURE I WAS DONE WITH IT WHEN I FINISHED MYSTIC MESSENGER. Lemme enlighten you:

Ah, the MC of the game is also a character I like because it’s one whose personalty I actually hate, but at the same time, I get where she’s coming from, and those characters are always a sign of good writing for me, because they make someone a bitch, but not a pure bitch who’s like that for the sake of being mean.

What i’m trying to say is, if you’re into otome games, this is a gem, so you HAVE to play it at some point.  Maybe not now, but at some point. 

Yeah, Saiko is a rare gem in TG, so it’s pretty much impossible not to like her. Because, wow, a nice person! That’s rare! (hopefully we didn’t jinx ourselves now)

I’ve… dropped TG again XD I guess I just don’t have the patience to deal with the mess that is Touken. And the last of Urie/Saiko. If Urie/Saiko happens, though, I’ll definitely pick it up again ^^;;;

Kaneki’s strategy in life seems to be ‘ignore it, hopefully it goes away’. Unfortunately, that strategy never works. So, he has some shit incoming soon. I actually kinda want to see the argument between him and Shuu…

Oh, it’s Hayama Akira from Shokugeki no Soma/Food Wars. It’s an anime about cooking. Unfortunately, it’s also… Ecchi. So, if you’re not comfortable with those things, then I’d recommend skipping it. In all honesty, it’s not even that good.  But the food does look delicious ;-;

You’ve invented a new kind of stupid, a damage you can never undo kind of stupid. The open all the cells in Cochlea kind of stupid. 

Well, HxH seems… interesting to say the least. But from what I’ve heard, it gets VERY emotional later on, so good luck with that!

Good luck with making me blush, because at this point, I am convinced I’m physically unable to blush. Because no matter how embarrassed I get, I never, ever blush. One of my friends tested me, when we were still in elementary school, by constantly making sexual innuendos around my crush, yet I never blushed. It’s fascinating, really.

Okay, but imagine Roy realising I like guys with slightly longer hair. I don’t know about you, but my mind immediately goes to a certain midget.

And since I’m pretty sure that, if I was an alchemist, I’d specialise in water alchemy (a, because it’s all around us and easily accessible, b, because the human body is made up of 60% water, so you’re able to do a lot of damage with it (as the freezing alchemist graciously showed us), even though I don’T think I’d freeze/turn people into steam, maybe just smaller body parts. Y’know, so I don’t exactly kill them), so we’d be a pretty dynamic pair.

Which alchemy do you think you’d specialise in?

BUt seriously, I can already imagine Scar being so so worried around you in the beginning, cause you always freeze up around him and he’s actually kinda hurt?? but he doesn’t want to admit it, cause he’s proud™, and then again, he doesn’t like it?? So he tries being gentler, nicer around you, so you stop looking at him like he’s a lion or something, and it actually takes a lot of effort on his part, but he’s trying to change, so he needs people NOT being afraid of him And eventually he succeeds and you’d no longer freezing up and he’s so freaking proud because the girl who honestly reminded him of a mouse at first is finally talking to him, and he feels like he’s accomplished a big step in life.  seriously, i can see him fussing over you so much, because he’s always, always worried he’s intimidating you, and he genuinely doesn’t want that

THE NEW CHAP OF KUROHITSUJI IS HERE!! And honestly, I’m a bit disappointed, because that’s it?? I mean, what exactly was the purpose of this chapter?? Probably to say that, yes, this actually IS Ciel, and they actually ARE twins, but I honestly never doubted that. But, hey, we got to see a panel from a long, long time ago drawn again, and we can see the art development:
