Okay ... Sherlock (Sherry) Holmes, of Limbus Company fame (/lh /j), lore post--under a cut because I am verbose.

And it is very long--if you read this whole thing, you get a cookie. /lh

Also updating with a quick warnings list ... her lore makes references to: character death, dismemberment, war, severe injuries, the medical field (including administering drug-like substances), and murder.

The first thing we need to establish is that Sherry's lore, for the most part follows the original Sherlock Holmes stories--the ones written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So anything from film or show adaptations, or books written by other authors, do not contribute to her lore.

Specifically, her story follows the cases found in A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of Four, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and, lastly, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. That's a lot of material, but the main case our dear Sinner is concerned with is "The Final Problem," the original ending to the Sherlock Holmes stories. Everything else is simply supplemental, and may occasionally be referenced in her (theoretical) dialogue--or by Don Quixote, because she's read every one of the books published about Sherry (she's one of her biggest fans).

Anyway!! With that sorted ... I do have to reference A Study in Scarlet--this gives us our lore for everyone's favorite doctor (/lh /j), John Watson. If you're familiar with the Sherlock Holmes stories, you'll know Watson was a doctor who served in the military. However, an injury cut his service short, and he ended up back in London, his money slowly running out, and him desperately needing a place to stay.

In the Project Moon universe, there was a major canonical war in District 12*, called the Smoke War (Outis and Gregor, as well as Roland, participated in this war, so we have some lore for that, but I shall shelve it for later). So, for Limbus!Watson, he was actually a young boy, say around 12-13, when the Smoke War broke out in District 12, his home District. He and his neighbors were caught up in the conflict, and spent much of their time trying to survive, with Watson doing what he could to treat injuries and get his neighbors the food and medicine they needed. However, he was gravely injured (I'll avoid the details, since they get a bit graphic), and his neighbors decided to scrape together what money they could to get Watson out of District 12.

Thanks to their kindness, he ended up in District 11, which is where K. Corp is stationed. I won't get into the nitty gritty details, but the main thing to know about K. Corp is they manufacture "regeneration ampules," which can be injected into someone to "restore" their body to its previously unharmed/undamaged physical state. They can regenerate severed limbs, heal nasty internal and external injuries ... basically any physical ailment.

I bring this up because, as you may know from the source, Watson is a doctor. In my lore, Limbus!Watson decides to enter the medical field because he wants to save people--he felt powerless to save his neighbors in his youth, so he wants to use his medical knowledge to save people in the present/future. He is incredibly critical of K. Corp's ampules, since it's only the super wealthy who can get their hands on them, and prefers to stick to more "outdated" treatment methods, focused on supporting individual patients rather than injecting them with a green goo and calling it a day.

After a while, Watson manages to join up with a Workshop that installs prosthetic limbs on those who've lost arms, legs, and whatever else, and he uses his knowledge to support them through the process. However, he's in dire financial straits, and is on the verge of losing his home, so he's struggling to find a solution for that. Thankfully, an old friend from District 12 runs into him, and introduces him to Sherry, who is looking for a roommate so she can reside at a nice flat on Baker Street.

I'm going to skip over a lot, now, but Watson accompanies Sherry on her cases, writes about them, and publishes her adventures for the City to read. Sherry gains fame from this, and also becomes a Color. And, of course, she and Watson grow incredibly close, even after Watson ends up marrying. Sherry is someone who develops very, very strong platonic bonds first and foremost, so her relationship with him is very similar to her relationship with Ishmael--they're sort of QPPs? But less so since Sherry knows Watson's married and, while she's critical of it (in the source, Sherlock views Watson's marriage as a disappointment asdfhjkl), she knows not to overstep.

Now we get to the actual Limbus!Sherlock thing--"The Final Problem."

In this case, Sherlock is on the verge of finally bringing Professor Moriarty, a man with ties to every major crime in London, down. He asks Watson to accompany him on a trip around the Continent, but they find out Moriarty has slipped free of Sherlock's carefully laid trap, and he's bent on pursuing the detective and exacting revenge. If you've read the source, you know Moriarty eventually tricks Watson into leaving Holmes, and then uses that time to kill him--though Moriarty also perishes in the process.

Now. The Limbus/Project Moon version I came up with:

Sherry, like her counterpart, is close to bringing Moriarty down. She's been dogging him for months, and is being threatened at every corner (much like in the source), so she decides to go on a trip of the City to get away for a while. She asks Watson to accompany her, of course--he's her closest friend, after all, and she likes having company.

However, like in the source, Moriarty escapes Sherry's carefully laid trap and pursues her for revenge. While her scheme manages to catch a number of Moriarty's top agents, Moriarty is able to free them later--this is crucial for her Canto story, but we're discussing pre-Limbus Sherry lore, right now. /lh

Like in the original book, Moriarty pursues Sherry to a remote location--a mountainous area with a stunning waterfall. However, this is where Sherry's lore diverges from the novel--because, when Watson receives the notice that leads him to leave Sherlock in the story, it's right as Moriarty comes on top of them, and he uses Watson's presence as leverage against Sherry (we know from a future story that Sherlock is incredibly protective of Watson, and this remains true for Sherry--although I feel you guys would know that from what's mentioned above). She attempts to negotiate with Moriarty, but the Professor eventually grows tired of debating with her, and decides that he'll instead let her off with a "warning"--said warning being him killing Watson right in front of her.

Naturally, Sherry is distraught over this--Watson is her best friend, and easily the person she trusts most, so having him ripped away from her, right before her eyes, is soul-crushing. He's her companion, her partner, her friend, and he died because of her--because she couldn't bring Moriarty down. Because she got careless and sloppy.

Somehow, she manages to return to District 20--that's her home District, where Baker Street Office is--and seek out Mycroft, her brother, who tries to offer her some comfort. But, at this point, Sherry is already concocting her own revenge on Moriarty--she's determined to bring him to his knees, this time, and she's not going to let anyone or anything keep her from taking his life with her own hands.

At the same time, Moriarty still has his agents dogging her, trying to scare her into dropping her pursuit of the Professor. So, Mycroft--as a member of a Wing--pulls a few strings and manages to get Sherry into a deal with Limbus Company: she joins the bus team as their 14th Sinner (Dante counts as number 10, btw--it's on their jacket), and they'll ensure she gets her revenge on Moriarty.

Sherry enters this deal fully intending not to develop any personal attachments to her coworkers, but--as we know--she reunites with Ishmael after years, and her heart slowly warms to the other Sinners, as well. She also starts developing what are clearly romantic feelings for Heathcliff (although they could also be interpreted as strong platonic feelings that lean more into romantic desires than her feelings for Ishmael and Watson do/did), which she feels incredibly guilty for.

And that guilt comes from the fact she used to tease Watson for his romantic tendencies and him settling down--and also the fact she's responsible for his wife now being a widow. So why should she be allowed to feel romantic attraction towards someone?

Regardless, she cares very, very deeply for Heathcliff, and he easily becomes the person she's most comfortable confiding in--he's a very good listener, and Sherry values people who can be quiet and let her prattle on and on ... it helps her process her thoughts and emotions.

Thus, whenever Ishmael or Heathcliff are killed when Dante isn't present (this is a necessary factor for what follows, since Dante's absence means Ishmael and/or Heathcliff cannot be revived immediately), Sherry will sort of ... snap. Especially if they're killed right in front of her. Because she's immediately taken back to the moment when she let her dearest friend die--and she swore she'd never let anyone take the people she loved from her again, yet here she is, letting the two people closest to her heart get killed.

And Sherry just ... goes into killing mode. You do not want to be the one who cut Heathcliff or Ishmael's life short, because you will not only be slain, but also no one will recognize your body. Thankfully, this doesn't happen too often, but when it does, the only real way to treat her madness is for Dante to revive Ishmael or Heathcliff and let them calm her down--Heathcliff in particular knows how to soothe her best, since he's the one she's closest to.

It's the most severe when both Ishmael and Heathcliff are killed back to back, because if one is still alive, he/she can usually keep Sherry grounded.

This isn't to say Sherry doesn't care for the other Sinners, though--it's just those two in particular are the ones she feels safest and happiest with. They're people she loves dearly and wants to keep safe ... so when she fails at that she spirals very quickly.

... and that wraps it up, I think? I have had much to think about while fleshing Sherry out, but ultimately her Canto will involve giving her closure on what happened during this revised version of "The Final Problem," and she'll finally be able to allow herself to heal from losing Watson ... and since Ishmael and Heathcliff both have revenge themes in their own Cantos, it makes sense that they'd help comfort her.

This is the District where L. Corp was stationed! And a super quick lore dump: The "City" is a place where (most of) the humans in the Project Moon world live, and it's split into 26 "Districts," which sort of function as their own legal entities ... each one has a different culture and rules, but they're all overseen by the Head--that's the big government in District 1. So it's like ... a federal government overseeing all the other "state" governments.

I’m so fucking tired everyone needs everything from me “before I leave” and I’m like my dude I have a month and a half before I’m outie chill but they keep pushing things on me because they “like my design style and they know how to work with me” but like. It’s a word document. You can edit it my friend. And then because the primary reason I gave for leaving is that we’re looking to move into a house soon, I keep getting unsolicited home buying advice including “well can you wait to buy it” “oh you don’t want to live there. The schools are terrible” and my personal favorite “as a homeowner myself, owning a home can be expensive so keep that in mind” like oh really? I had no fucking clue tell me more. It’s not like we’ve been working on our budget and expenses and saving up for years and planned for a 20% down payment and enough extra liquid assets to last us 6 months and an additional emergency account on top of our retirement accounts. I had no idea homes are expensive! Wowee I guess the 5 solutions I listed to the cost problem aren’t enough to compensate for that darn. Nevermind no house for us. Oh well.

Oh and the jokes about “when’s the due date” are already not funny and I’ve only gotten one so far. I replied “never” but we’ll see if I can come up with a better response lol

—what you don’t like when you’re sleeping? i hate being cold omg i cannot sleep when i'm freezing... need allll the blankets on me. but i also hate when it's too hot haha i'd rather have a million blankets and be sleeping in 15 layers than to not be able to sleep with covers because i'm sweating. thanks to years of tour i'm pretty adaptable in terms of light / noise / location though.

—what do you have for breakfast? 2 eggs every day, i change how they're prepared though - usually i have hard boiled on school mornings bc i prep them in advance as i'm up so early. with more time i'll scramble or fry them. i eat them with toast and/or fruit and i neeeed to have a lot of coffee in the morning too.

—what are your strengths? i think my greatest strength is being solution-oriented, but i am also deeply compassionate and genuinely value people and relationships. i really believe that we are nothing without each other and think connection and understanding are the most important things we can experience with others in life, so i always try to find that and live with that in mind.

—what are your weaknesses? i struggle with feeling stagnant, i easily feel trapped and need change like i need to breathe, which can lead to spurts of recklessness and/or impulsiveness. i hate feeling like someone doesn't like me, even as someone who is pretty objective and is able to separate things / not take them personally, i find it hard not to care when i feel like people read me wrong (and maybe this is a weakness in itself that i feel like most people who really know me would like me lol ... but . i also think that anyone who really knows anyone would like them. so).

Freddie is a good writer and Scott is a good writer (and Freddie just wrote a passionate defense of Scott this week) so reading Scott admire and then tear apart Freddie’s book is an enlightening read. It has a lot of interesting points and only two more-heat-than-light controversial parts...

So I’m gonna be a jerk and just talk about the controversial parts. Sorry. (You should really read the review AND the book for its good points though.)

One: what is this weird double bind with group genetic differences in IQ? If IQ should not be determinative of your moral value, if we should value underachievers just as much as Harvard grads, why would we have such problems even discussing the subject of whether different races have different IQ averages, or so I read this piece as asking?

Obvious answer A: because individuals aren’t averages, and whenever any society starts agreeing about an average of a group in any way that isn’t 100% equal, people wildly over generalize about every single individual in that group as fitting the stereotype. We aren’t being truth-seeking when we refuse to acknowledge the average difference, but dear lord it is one hell of a lot better than what happens to members of group X every time you come to a consensus that on average group Y is better at something.

More important answer B: because moral value is not an abstract category separable from social power. One can imagine a society that admits people with Inny Belly Buttons are just smarter than people with Outies. Not just particular individuals, but as a group. But said society still wants everyone to be well off. To achieve this, the Innies are put in charge of political institutions (and academic and corporate ones), with the clear directive to get good results from everyone using their meritocratic superiority.

We all know what that society will look like very shortly. The word often thrown around is “colonialism”, or white man’s burden if you’re being really snarky. None of us are unbiased and selfless enough for their group of people to be put in charge of everyone else, and to not begin distorting matters to their benefit. (That is sort of the point of anti-meritocracy arguments.)

So trying to solve for “are their group differences in IQ” leads to two very big problems. And it’s unclear what benefit you would get from finding group differences in IQ. So people don’t do it.

This is not the most truth-seeking behavior. But the two really big problems are real and should be considered for “why the public discussion on the left moves this way.”

Two: Freedom from Child Prison. I mostly agree with Scott about his view of schools. I don’t think he’s entirely right - his social world somewhat selects for the people who hated school and so downplays the experience of people who liked it, so his estimate of the total and average suffering is off. But yeah, there is a lot of forced suffering going on with schools, and we should try to stop it.

I don’t really know how to do this. Pandemic has shown that a lot of parents really aren’t equipped to be with their children 24/7. Now on some level it would just be nice to admit that child prison is more for the parent’s sake (and our economic productivity) than what the kids are learning. And if you made me King of America that’s one thing I’d quickly try to act on, just I think the actual solutions are very complicated and Scott’s quick sketch of solutions are fairly blithe.

In a less passionate but more consistently true statement I would say: the way we organize school right now only works if you ignore the preferences of the student, and if we had to be even a little accountable to kids than we would get a very different system. Defending the current system (which is not the same as working within the system to make lives better) basically requires saying children’s preferences should not have any say in decisions this big. Which some people feel! But most people left of center don’t, or at least would not admit.

But where Scott really goes off the rails is equating “charter schools” with “kids being free.” I hate to break it to him, but many charter schools are more authoritarian and hellish than public schools. SPECIFICALLY SUCCESS ACADEMY. But SA isn’t even the worst. Freedom to try things like “treating your kids like they are basically in the military” is what charter school experimentation is all about.

Some of the charter schools also try more freedom-leaning structures. (They are not as represented among the “success stories” of charter schools though.) And yes in theory, your parents getting to pick what child prison you go to might mean you have some more say in the school and marginally more freedom. But well, “parents who don’t trust your judgment picking what prison you go to” just isn’t the same as not going to prison. If prison abolitionists were met with someone offering a compromise “okay, the victim of your crime can decide which prison you go to”, they would not really think that meets or even approaches their goals. It might even be a good idea, but I would not channel all my rage at prisons into people who argued against the victim-choosing thing.

(I suspect this leap of logic was caused by the increasing hate towards home-schooling in some political circles, and the rationalist community getting defensive about home-schooling lately, and the obvious basis for alliance between home-schooling and charter schools. Which all makes sense, but most of the time is going to mean fuck all to the kid stuck in third period PE.)

Reflex and Control

"Omp- ahaha... Khhh!"

"OW!"

Tony laughed loudly, pressing his hand down to the spot where just a few seconds ago, Steve's mouth had been gently gnawing on, shielding the sensitive skin. There was a strong urge in him to roll into a tight ball, which was successfully stopped by Steve’s form laying on his legs, keeping him pinned down on the bed. 

There was no room to move his legs, but it was his hands causing the most problems, trying to knock Steve down each time it was getting good and ticklish. Still, it was so nice and it showed by the big smile on his face and in the way his skin tingled, remembering the soft, ticklish feeling. Tony was enjoying it. Steve, maybe not so much, judging by the irritated look on the soldier's face.

"Really, Tony?" Steve asked with a huff, rubbing his sore temple. He would be worried about bruises if it wasn't for the super-soldier serum, because, man, Tony had some mean swing. 

"Sorry!" Tony lifted his head, making a sincere effort to show that he regretted hitting his boyfriend, but his lips were stretched in a smile and voice trembled with suppressed laughter. It was cute, but also unnerving, especially because this whole thing was Tony's idea and he couldn't even do the courteous thing and stay still.

Slowly, Steve was giving up, the irritated feeling going away. "You asked me to do this, remember?" Steve said, brushing fingertips slowly against the bare skin on Tony's soft stomach. Immediately, he got a reaction and Tony opened his eyes wide, sucking in a long breath. There was some tension in his body, until a soothing feeling took over, and Tony thunked his head back on the pillow, giggling softly, doing his best to control his twitching hands from coming up and protectively wrapping around himself.

"Haha - hihi..."

That was better. The way Tony stayed still, only his stomach sucking in and trembling under Steve's fingertips and the ongoing laughter. There was a lot of trust in the action because there were not many people, bah, Steve probably was the only one, who Tony would allow to tickle him so softly and intimately. Roughhousing with Clint or being silenced by Natasha's tickling fingers whenever she decided Tony had blabbed for too long kept happening, but this moment was only between them. Only for Steve. 

Steve hummed in approval, watching his fingers gliding down the smooth skin, applying some pressure, and watching the skin give in. There was something great about Tony's belly, invitingly soft and slightly round but with hard core muscles, the outline of them showing each time Tony sucked a breath in. It was a wonderful contrast. 

"If you slap me again," Steve warned, dotting his fingers along the lower belly, feeling Tony spasming under him, "I will tie you down."

"Nohohoho," Tony laughed, half-aware that it was an empty threat. When he had asked Steve to play with his stomach, something they both were big fans of, they didn't agree on tying. It was supposed to be just like this, Steve tickling him, long and soft, and Tony absolutely melting under his touch. 

"Then don't slap me," Steve offered a solution, bringing his face closer, and pressing a long kiss on Tony's side.

"AH! Ahahaha it is a refleehhehehex!" Tony explained himself, fingers twisting into the covers, just having to hold to something. Here it started again.

"Then control your reflexes better," Steve said and it was all the advice he gave, before using his lips to gently lap at the soft spot above Tony's hipbone. Immediately, fireworks launched in Tony's mind, and the ticklish feeling took over every nerve on his body, causing him to twist his waist, but obediently he kept his hands down. The urge to protect himself and slap the attacker was strong, but the pleasure coming from the touch was even stronger. 

Steve took his time, mapping with his lips every inch of skin on Tony's side and showering it with ticklish affection. It all went well until he moved his lips closer to the middle of his boyfriend's stomach and Tony already started panicking. 

"Nahahaha! Waitwaitwait!"

"Hm?" Steve looked up, giving his boyfriend a break. Tony was looking back at him, his chest rising with every quickened breath and eyes sparkling from laughter.

"Ummmm..."

"Yes?" Steve asked, encouraging his boyfriend to voice himself. Yet, Tony had this stunned expression on his face, as if not expecting that Steve would actually listen to him and that made him laugh. "Reflex again?"

"I can't control it!" Tony said, puffing his cheeks out. It was all very simple. His stomach was very ticklish but he liked being tickled there. His outie belly button was extremely ticklish, but it was also extremely enjoyable to be tickled there. And that's where Steve's mouth was coming closer and even if the pleasure coming would be outstanding, Tony still felt anxious. It was a natural reaction. 

"You are so cute," Steve cooed, hearing Tony groan in embarrassment, "my sweet belly," he said, lowering his head again and tracing lips all over his boyfriend's stomach, drawing zigzag patterns.

"EEEEE - hihihihihi!"

Steve smiled internally, loving how Tony's stomach quivered and shook with every giggle. It was mesmerizing. 

"So, you say that this is a very sensitive spot?" Steve asked, because a little teasing couldn't hurt, brushing the tip of his nose over Tony's sticking out outie, just for fun, from left to right and then back again.

"AAHAHA! Yehehehes!"

"How sensitive?" Steve kept asking, changing the pattern and going with up and down motion, nodding his head instead of shaking it.

"I- ahahaha - hihihihi!"

"Let's find out, huh?"

When Steve pressed his lips down and circled Tony's outie, giving the small nub a gentle suck, Tony erupted into shrieking laughter, twisting and jumping and went completely wild, banging fists on the covers. 

"I CAHANAHAN'T! STOP, STEHEHEVE! HIHIHI!"

Steve didn't listen, trying to hold down with his body weight the wriggling and laughing mess Tony became while lapping on the ticklish outie, fulfilling Tony's wish from earlier and ignoring the current plea. After all, what Tony had just said was a reflex, right?

“Ivar, if you don’t take those damn close off.” Cash playfully rolled her eyes, while holding her hand out.  She could see about million different emotions running across his face, and then the one that settled in his eyes.  Fear.  “Look. You’re going to catch pneumonia if you don’t get out of those wet clothes.  Just take them off.  There’s nobody here but me.”  

Ivar desperately wanted to get out of his clothes.  He was miserable, cold, and wet.  His shirt was sticking to him like a second skin.  His sweatpants weighed a ton and were getting heavier by the second.  The wet fabric against his skin was making him itch.  Did Bubbe switch detergents without telling me? 

If he didn’t get out of his pants soon his legs would start to chafe against his braces and he didn't want that.  That would mean he would be in Austria for the next two weeks needing to apply an anti-itch/anti-inflammatory steroid cream to them and he would not be able to wear his braces at all while he was doing that treatment.  No braces meant no walking.  No walking meant no going out and seeing the city with Cash.  No going out with Cash meant, no...anything.  Then why did he come on this trip in the first place?

He couldn’t move.  Not yet anyway.  He would probably be more comfortable taking his clothes off if, say, the room was dark and they were about to have sex. But right now?  It was the middle of the afternoon, for God’s sake.  Her curtains were wide open and all of the rain-soaked pervs of Vienna who might be standing in the enclosed garden could see.

“What if…” she walked over to her suitcase and started rummaging through it. She pulled out an over sized t-shirt and pair of comfy sweats that she’d stolen from her brother from her bag and held them up.  She looked at them, then looked at him.  

Ivar burst out laughing.  “That will never fit.  I have a phat ass.  And that is with a P.H.”  

“Yes, you do.” She mumbled under breath as she walked over to him. “These were my brother’s.  I don’t know if they’ll fit, but you could try them.”

Ivar looked at the clothes apprehensively.  Why didn’t they just go back to his hotel?  Why did it have to start pouring down rain in the middle of their day out? Why didn’t he think to check the weather before they left his room?  Why didn’t he have an umbrella?  There were so many things he could have differently to have avoided being in this situation. 

Cash weighed all of the options for a minute and briefly consulted with the people in her head.  There was clearly only one solution to this problem. As her heart rate increased, she chewed on her bottom lip to swallow her nerves. Without another thought, she reached for the bottom of her long-sleeved tee and pulled it over her head.  

“What are you doing?” Ivar asked in surprise.  He couldn’t take his eyes off of her dark green lace bra.  It was the kind of strappy bra he liked - the kind that had the two extra straps near the cups that landed across her chest creating the perfect illusion of cleavage.  The bra was nice, but to Ivar, it looked exquisite on Cash.  

She didn't have the biggest chest he'd ever seen, but he was more than impressed by it.  Her breasts would fit perfectly in his large hands and he wouldn't have to worry about any spillage.  He could do a lot to her with just one hand and not need to worry about how to hold her up and use both hands to support a boob.  

Ivar cleared his throat and quickly released his hand when he noticed he balled it into a fist at the thought of holding her breasts.  

He forced his eyes to look anywhere other than her chest.  He found that he had an equally hard time trying not to stare at the way her pulse quickened just above her collarbone.  Or at her naturally flat stomach with the cutest outie navel, he'd ever seen.  She had a dark line that trailed from her belly button down into her underwear and he had to admit, he was very curious about. Her hips weren't quite proportionate to her waist - had she a little bigger, her body shape would have made more sense.  But as it were, she was the most beautiful woman Ivar had ever seen.

Cash started to pick at her nail polish.  She felt like an idiot.  “If you’re going to be awkward and embarrassed, then so am I.”  She walked over to him and handed him a towel. 

Turning to the mirror just to the left of him, she looked at her reflection.  “I mean, what do you have to be embarrassed about?  You’re the one with the six-pack and I’m the one in practically a training bra.  And look at my damn hair.  I look like a drowned rat.  Do you know how long it took me to Frankenstein together the products I needed to tame these curls? Now, look at it.  In a few hours, I’m gonna be looking like I just jumped off a zebra in Wakanda some damn where." 

Ivar touched her bare shoulder and felt her flinch under his fingers. He searched her eyes when she looked into his.  “I cannot understand everything when you talk so fast.”  He gave her a boyish smile before bending down to softly kiss her lips, “You have nothing to be embarrassed about. You are beautiful.” 

Cash pursed her lips in a manner that made only one cheekbone raise.  Damn him and those soft lips.  She watched as he removed his wet shirt without protest. 

Oh, the body on that man.  She reached out and took his wet shirt from his hand, “Gonna hang this up to dry.” Walking to the bathroom towel rack she tried to steady herself with several cleansing breaths.  “You know what we need?” She called out as she walked back into the room.

“A drink?”  Ivar asked hopefully.  He needed something to get himself together.  He hadn’t been this nervous since he was 13 and the time Hvitserk walked in on him masturbating.   

Cash shook her head, “Music.”  She grabbed her phone and looked for a playlist.  She and Ivar always had music in common.  Some nights, they would spend hours on the phone discussing music and sending each other songs and videos that they thought the other would like. 

Though their tastes varied on some things, for the most part, they seemed to agree on a lot.  He liked a little more of that emo shit that she wasn’t into, while he thought she liked too much of old school hip hop.  They would have just to agree that he was wrong and she was right and then they could live happily ever after.  “What are you feeling?”

“Cold.” 

She flashed her eyes at him.  “Fine…random it is.”  She turned on her portable Beats speaker and bobbed her head when the sounds of Lizzo filled the room. She walked over the refrigerator and pulled out a beer for Ivar and walked it over to him. “So, are you going to stand in that spot the whole day?”

“No.”  He had been standing there debating if he was going to take off his pants. His legs were hurting from standing still so long and not moving, plus he was itchy and wet.  But, if he took off his pants, then he would have to also remove his braces. That would mean he would have to crawl. Cash hadn’t seen that, yet. Talking about it was one thing; seeing it was something different, entirely. “Thank you.” He tilted the beer in her direction.

Cash nodded reading his expression.  She knew that he wasn’t trying to take his pants off.  This was a big step for him.  Not only was he embarrassed about showing her about his impairment, but she was pretty sure he was worried about seeming like a creeper if he just started getting naked.  He just told her last night that he needed a little time.  What if he thought that she thought that if he took his clothes off she was taking that as a sign of it being sexy time? Oh God, she wasn’t even thinking that!  She just didn’t want the man to freeze to death.  

All she knew was somebody needed to do something soon because she was cold and her jeans were sticking to her most uncomfortably.  Wet denim and lace were not a good feeling no matter the porno titles tried to have people believe.

Ivar closed his eyes and leaned back until he made contact with the door.  He slowly slid down to the floor into a seated position.  Without looking up, he removed one shoe and sock, followed by the other.  He opened his beer and downed almost half of it, before letting out a silent belch.  “I have to warn you. My legs are small…no.  Ah, skinny?” He released his hair from the hairband that was holding it back in a bun and let the wet strands free before rolling up one wet pant leg and loosening the brace's straps.

Cash stood still watching the way Ivar kept his head down and his hair fell forward blocking the view of his face. She knew he was doing this on purpose so he wouldn't have to look at her.  She could tell by the way he was fumbling around with the straps that he wasn't paying attention to the braces either. He wasn't embarrassed about his legs - Ivar was ashamed. 

“Hey, Ivar?”  Cash looked him the eye when he raised his head.  “My legs are skinny, too.”  She unbuttoned her jeans and wiggled out of them.  She knew she should have bought them a little bigger, but she was trying to be cute.  She wondered if she had an imprint on her stomach from the waistband of her jeans.  Her Gigi always told her she had to pay for beauty.  Buying these damn jeans too small was payment enough. But it was good for him to see her struggling with her pants. Maybe it would help him get rid of this idea that he had to be a certain way for her.

He shouldn’t be looking at her like that.  “I told you, I only had one serious girlfriend before in my life, Ja?”  He said as he removed the first brace.  He rolled up the other pant leg and began loosening the straps on that brace, “She and another woman are the only people to ever see them before, other than my family and doctors.”

Cash continued to run the towel down her legs before wrapping it around her waist. She walked over to where Ivar was and took a seat in front of him.  She watched in silence as he scooted around to pull his pants from his hips and off of his legs.  She handed him his towel and tried not to stare as he began to dry himself. 

Admittedly, his legs were strange. To start, they were extremely pale, compared to the rest of him. Then the tops of his thighs were shaped normally, but the lower half of his quads started to taper inward toward his knees. From there, his legs were very thin and heavily scarred; the right more so than the left.  “Why?”

“You see them.”  He said, slapping his thigh.  “Not exactly an advertisement for men’s shorts.”  He covered his legs with the towel and picked up his beer and took another sip.

Cash raised her brow at him, “Well they’re bigger than mine.  She held her leg out to him and laughed when he ran his finger down her foot. 

So now that the Phase I of Humiliating Ivar was out of the way, he might as well get on with the rest of it, “You are aware I cannot walk now?  I will have to crawl…”

“You don’t need to do that.”

“What?” 

“You don’t need to preface everything for me,” she wrinkled her forehead at him with a disapproving look.  “It’s really not a  good look for you.”

Ivar looked at her confused. “I don’t know what preface is,” he folded his hands in his lap and waited for her to continue.

“You keep trying to warn…no, prepare me for what’s about to happen like I’m going run away or be shocked by something.  Well, I’m still here. You haven’t shocked me yet.”  She reached out and put her hand on a scar on his shin, “Except maybe with how fine you are.”  She noticed how cold her hand was against his warm skin and wondered if she should remove it.  He didn’t seem affected by them, so she left it there for a moment.  “Believe me, I have a ton-o-shit that I’m self-conscious about. We are just going to have to work through that shit together.”

Ivar laid his cold hand on top of Cash’s and gently threaded his fingers between hers.  “Like a team? Team… Civarsh.”

Cash chuckled at the name, “What does that mean?”

Ivar shrugged, “Nothing.  It’s the mixture of our names.  All teams have a name. Justice League; Avengers; The Migos; Wu-Tang Clan...”  

“But, not Civarsh?” Cash laughed, “I can’t even say it.  Your team naming skills suck.  If I’m going to be part of a team it needs to have a name to let people know that we are a force to be reckoned with…’

Ivar listened intently to Cash talk but somewhere in the back of his mind, he realized that he was sitting on the floor in only his underwear with a girl he hardly knew and he was completely comfortable.  He had never before felt like this in his life, not even when he was with Freydis.  Even, when they had sex, he hadn’t been this comfortable.  

In fact, he remembered that he would usually put his pants on, immediately after she was done.  After they had been together for a little while, and they both knew that something was wrong with him sexually, he stopped removing his pants, altogether.  She didn't need him to take them off to get what she needed. But this?  This wasn't so bad.  It was actually kind of nice, if he was being honest.

“Would that make you feel some kind of way?”  Cash raised her brows in question, hoping that she hadn’t offended him. Her heart was in the right place, but it was a weird request.  Her mother always said that the road to hell was paved with good intentions.  

Ivar looked confused.  

He had been listening to her but he must have zoned out for a minute. "Sorry?” 

“Would it make it weird if I crawled, too?”  She asked again, a little less confident than the first time.  It sounded so much better in her head. Those bitches Jessica and Jasmine had convinced her it was a good idea.  She should have known better to listen to them.  “I mean, I figure the reason we’ve been sitting by the door in our wet underwear for the past 10 minutes is that you don’t want to crawl in front of me.  So, I figure if you have to crawl, and I crawl with you, then…” She looked at his face and could not get a read on his expression.  

There wasn’t a name for the emotion that Ivar was feeling.  All he knew was the back of his eyes burned with the hot sting of tears and his top lip began to sweat.  His dry throated swallow made his Adam’s apple bob before he licked his lips and tried to say something intelligent.

“Never mind,” she said lowering her eyes, “it was a stupid idea. I’m sorry if I offended you. It wasn’t my intention.  I was just trying…”

“You would that for me?” He covered his mouth with his hands and furrowed his brows as he tried to figure her out.  “You would be willing to crawl on the floor with me?”

“You shouldn’t have to look up to anyone,” she gave him a hopeful look and prayed that she didn’t just fuck up this whole trust thing they were building.

It was hard to scoot in wet underwear, but Ivar made the best of it without his boxer briefs sliding down his butt.  He managed to close the space between him and Cash, with one hand on the back of her neck and the other in her wet hair, he pulled her face toward his. 

Last night, their kissing had been nice and exploratory.  This kiss today?  He wasn’t quite sure what came over him, but it was heavy and needy.  If he didn’t get himself together, he was going to end up laying her back on that floor and let whatever was going to happen, happen.

-I'm purely looking at cohesion of group design, but I will touch on how well individual ones are handled

Plasmagica

THE titular band. Unfortunately doesn't stop them from looking like they're all a part of a different band. While all the individual designs work well to showing their personality, it doesn't allow the band to have a really well defined look. ESPECIALLY considering the anime, they really could've done to have redesigns to show character development(and also stress my sister out when trying to pull for the new outfits /j). It'd also help if they didn't look completely removed from their band name. Like seriously. Plasmagica is not the first name I'd pick.

I like how they're described as a visual kei band, that's just kinda cute. That being said they're so paradoxically cohesive and not??? I really do love them but they all really, really do look like they're going to different Halloween parties. One thing shingan could really benefit from is either

A) not having 3/4ths of the band with the titties out look

Or

B) give the titties out look more variety

Like dude Rom is probably the worst offender his top half has none of the band's main color(which is objectively black) and this could be fixed so easily. Give him a sheer crop top. I don't care. Just something

TriChronika.... Bad. The songs they sing are fucking weak sauce and so are their designs. Which is so unfortunate because they have the MOST bangerang theme?? It doesn't help that I still am physically incapable of telling Kai and Riku apart. Their palettes make them look like they belong in a different band entirely when put next to ShuuZo. I get, on some level, that Shuuzo is supposed to be the center focus and thus is designed accordingly, but Mr Sparkledog left his companions with no flair of their own to speak of, and no, Kai and Riku being twins is not an excuse for them to not have good tells??? Get your shit together TriChronika

FINALLY. GOOD DESIGN. clear themeing, really strong palettes to set them apart, I love it here. Holmy and Jacklyn are my favorites u_u but I think Rosia's myumon form has the weakest palette, and could probably do better if her fur color was just adjusted. That being said, these girls are overall one if the best designed groups that appears in the anime.

Tsurezure Naru Ayatsuri Mugenan

I legit think the only weaknesses of TNAM is how hard it is to remember their name (/j) in all seriousness they work really well too, and I especially love Daru Dayu's daruma. Their "far east" look is very clear to see.

Shizuku Secret Mind

The anime very smartly avoids having Turtle B.I.G make an appearance in non-myumon form bc he looks so out of place next to the band, and that's entirely bc of his palette. The obvious solution is to just... Give the other band members a more varied palette? Sea creatures are so many colors, why are they all blue???? Also Wendy looks like a different person in all her card art and that's so funny to me.

I cannot begin to tell you how accidentally funny NinjinRiot is in the anime. They legit show up, dispense the stakes, and ollie outie. Which I can respect. This is one of those well designed band, except for Obero's myumon design. The torso area gets melted into the arms. Still!! Really stylish

Studdo Ban Gyashu

Now these motherfuckers deserve to get called a visual kei band. My one complaint is that their distinct colors don't really enhance each other designs, so none really stand out.

I can't dunk on that

yesterday i tried taking the keys off my HP latpop keyboard so i could clean it thoroughly but i quickly realized that would be too tedious so i only did a few keys but in the process of removing the 1 key the little sticky-outy bits on the big part of the hinge broke off so i couldn’t get it back on correctly

and since the HP is my simming laptop and i frequently use the 1 key for changing game speed i decided i couldn’t have a broken hinge on the 1 key so i took the intact hinge off the 5 key and gave it to the 1 key and then had a hell of a time getting the broken hinge reattached while brainstorming possible ways to re-add the nubs or affix the top of the hinge to the keyboard but i couldn’t come up with anything (let me know if you know of any solutions besides just buying a new hinge!)

so now the 5 key is a little broken (it works but if you press on the bottom half of it the top half detaches from the keyboard) but i guess that’s ok cause i don’t need 5 for much of anything on that laptop. also i might just get a new simming laptop at some point if it seems like there’s a better option out there. (i could invest in upgrading my existing laptop but idk if it’s a good candidate since i don’t really know what to look for when it comes to that sort of thing)

SmileDirectClub Part 2: An Update—1 Month Down...4.5 to Go!

Okay, so if you remember from my last article, I started my smile journey with SmileDirectClub at the end of May. And this past Tuesday I just reached the one month mark. So, I decided to post an update piece about how things are going, my progress and so forth.

Progress

As I mentioned in my intro post, based on my smile plan I knew that I wouldn’t see any dramatic changes after the first month. Even though I can definitely tell which teeth are being moved by the pressure being applied, for the most part there aren’t any major changes. Keep in mind, the only teeth doing any major movement are my front 12 teeth (top six and bottom six). However, as you can see in the pic above, I can see some minor shifting from teeth that used to have some very minor crowding that are no longer overlapping. Note that in the start pic I’m wearing my top aligners and in the current pic, I’m not wearing them at all.

Adjusting to the feeling of wearing aligners:

Hands down, the first week of aligners were the most painful. And I’m 100% sure that’s because it was an entirely new experience and my mouth had to get used to wearing them. As promised, by the end of the first week, my mouth adjusted and the lisp went away. But it wasn’t until the second week where my teeth really stopped hurting. So, now when I switch aligners, my teeth or only super sensitive for the first 24 hours.

My smile plan is a 1 / 1 / 2 plan. This means that for weeks 1 and 2 of each month, I’m wearing a new set of aligners each week. But for weeks 3 and 4, I have just one pair of aligners for the two week period. Last month it felt like in weeks 1 and 2 there was a lot of movement happening with my teeth and then not so much in weeks 3 and 4. It truly felt like my bottom aligner was nothing more than a retainer to prevent my bottom teeth from slipping back into their original position. There was minimal detailing on my bottom aligner and it was technically loose enough that I didn’t even need to use the outie tool to remove them. And my top aligner only had minor pressure on it that went away within a day or two of my two weeks of wear.

Adjusting to life with aligners

To be honest, I’ve gotten used to the routine of having to do the ole brush, rinse, floss, and clean aligners routine before putting them back in my mouth. The first week was a pain because all I could think about was when I could eat or drink. But after time, I’ve gotten into a routine and typically only take my aligners out three times a day—unless I have to go into the city for events, or go out to eat.

For the most part, I’m home. And that makes it really easy to give my teeth the thorough cleaning they need without feeling like everyone would be watching me. Having said that tho, I still don’t pop these guys out every two seconds to eat or drink something other than water. I avoid removing them unless I’m really going to eat...or drink red wine.

I’m also pretty Type A about keeping my retainers clean. Every morning I soak them in a 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water while I’m eating my breakfast. And I also brush my aligners every time I’m prepping to put them back in after a meal.

Switching to new aligners:

I always shift into a new pair on Tuesdays and I try to put them on no earlier than 9PM in the evening. I find that it takes a good 12 hours for my teeth to get used to the new pressure. This past Tuesday—after two weeks of minimal pressure—it was pretty uncomfortable when I switched to the new pair. I ended up taking a couple Tylenol to help ease the discomfort. So, avoid putting in a new pair of aligners in the morning—unless you’re a masochist.

Anywho, I’ve seen people ask questions (in general, not directed at me) about what to do with old aligners. As you can see, I have several retainer cases from SDC. My purple case houses my current set of aligners when I’m not wearing them. Then I took a LED brightener case and labeled it “last week’s aligners”. That one (obviously) holds last week’s aligners. I strongly recommend that you keep your previous pair just in case you misplace your current set of aligners or there’s an issue with the fit. This will ensure that you won’t regress and have your teeth shift back. Anything older than last week’s aligners I toss.

So, when you’re ready to switch to new aligners, I like to do a few things to ensure that the fit is as comfortable as possible. Every week your aligners will come in these pre-labeled easy to open plastic bags. So, something I do preemptively is to file down all the edges on my aligners. I was originally using a paper file/emery board. But I’ve since switched to a ceramic/glass mini file that came in a three-piece set of files I ordered on eBay years ago.

After filing, I put my aligners in and wait for an hour or two. If any area feels particularly uncomfortable, I take them out, rinse and apply the orthodontic wax to prevent uncomfortable rubbing or cutting on my gums, mouth or tongue. And this is probably my only real gripe with SDC and dental aligners in general. Every week (or two weeks) is a new surprise of “where will it irritate you”.

The takeaway: Invest in whatever items you need to ensure that you can wear your aligners as comfortably as possible (not including the tight pressure issue in the beginning of a new week of aligners). If you don’t, your mouth will be raw and you’ll give up before you can even see any measurable results.

Going out with aligners:

So, even though I’m mostly home, I do go out to events from time to time—or out to dinner or lunch with the hubby. And that means that I have to go through the whole take ‘em out. put ‘em in routine. I’ve learned it’s best to take a kit with you so that you’re prepared. And that kit is featured in the title card, but I’ll walk you through it. 

This tote looks big but it’s actually not. Anywho here’s everything I carry:

I went on Amazon and bought additional outie tools because I didn’t want to take the risk of losing the only outie tool that came with my aligners in my SDC box. I thought a three-pack for $11.55 was incredibly reasonable. So if you like to be prepared, I highly recommend you buy these.

I have yet another retainer case from SDC so I keep this one in my tote so I never have to worry about wrapping my aligners in a napkin and accidentally throwing them away.

I also keep a travel kit of dental supplies: toothpaste, toothbrush, mini flossers, mouthwash and the new Listerine Ready Tabs. An interesting tidbit, the toothbrush I use is from Doctor Plotka and features bristles that also act as flossers and are antibacterial thanks to the silver infused tips.

While at home I keep a very thorough and consistent routine for cleaning my teeth before putting my aligners back in, my outside routine can vary a bit depending on what’s going on. I always brush and use mouthwash. But if I’m not actually eating anything, I don’t always floss—especially if I know I’m going home immediately after an event.

The Sanders Sides Christmas fic that nobody asked for! I basically made it because I had the random idea of Virgil dressed like SantaXD

Virgil had to give the Dragon Witch some credit, she sure knew how to work a curse.

Roman and Patton were little kids again and unfortunately, Christmas was just a day away.

The two little Sides had been screaming about Christmas lists, Santa Claus, flying reindeer, and gingerbread cookies all week.

And at first, it was Patton who had grown small again. Logan reasoned that it had something to do with the impact the holiday had on Thomas’ heart. It made him feel more like a child again. It caused him to reminisce about past holidays and time spent with family. But Roman had argued with Logan, saying that the curse simply struck at random. About a week later Roman had become a child too.

Virgil had to agree with Logan at this point. It was no secret that the Sides currently impacted by the curse were the ones most affected by Christmas. It wasn’t like Virgil had ever felt included during the holiday season. And Logan was simply too logical to ever be completely sucked into the festivities.

The anxious trait was relieved that he had Logan to help him take care of the others. Roman and Patton never seemed to run out of energy. They had already been loud when they were adults, but now that they were young? They were absolutely impossible.

Every race, every scrape, every fall, every moment of teardrops or screams freaked Virgil out more than anything. He wanted to wrap them in bubble wrap and place heavy duty helmets on their heads, but Logan vetoed that idea. He said it was too extreme.

There was so much to worry about, but one worry was steadily increasing.

Santa.

That was all little Roman and Patton would talk about.

“I’m going to stay up all night and wait for him!” Roman had yelled.

Logan had shared a look with Virgil, “Uh, that isn’t the wisest course of action. Santa knows when you’re awake.”

“Then I’ll pretend to be asleep! Patton will be my backup! Won’t you, Pat?”

Patton nodded excitedly, “There’s no way we’re gonna miss him this year!”

Virgil dragged Logan away to talk in private, leaving the younger ones to finish decorating the tree.

“What are we going to do?” Virgil hissed once they were out of earshot.

“What do you mean?”

“How the hell are we going to put their presents underneath the tree if they stay up all night waiting for ‘Santa’?”

“Calm down, I’m quite positive they’ll fall asleep at some point tonight….”

“And if they don’t? We’re the ones responsible for ruining their belief in this Santa person.” Virgil crossed his arms and looked at Logan with a quirked eyebrow. “You want to be responsible for that?”

“Oh, it’s not like they’re actually children, Virge.”

“Maybe not, but the adult Patton still believes in this nonsense. You think he won’t remember something as heartbreaking as the discovery of no Mr. Claus? You really want to deal with a melancholy adult Patton this new year?”

Logan’s face paled, “....no”

“Good. Then I think the solution is pretty simple here. All you have to do is dress up as Santa before going down to put the presents underneath the tree tonight.”

“Wha--what? Why can’t you do it?” Logan asked indignantly.

“Are you freaking kidding me? I’m Anxiety, I certainly can’t do it! That weirdo is supposed to be jolly, remember?”

The logical trait shuddered, “Well, I’m hardly the better option.”

“We have no better options.”

“No. No, I simply won’t do it. This is ridiculous and you are overly worried about something that probably won’t even occur.”

“Logan”

“No. If you are so concerned, you dress up like the old geezer. I’m outie fifty thousand.”

Virgil sighed, “It’s five thousand.”

“Whatever!”

Logan left to go check on the others, leaving Virgil alone with his thoughts.

Well, I ain’t doing it. And when Patton is crying and heartbroken, that nerd is going to have to be the one to deal with it.

….but Patton will be hurt and you would’ve had the power to stop it, his mind protested.

And little Roman will yell at you for being a liar and it’ll be painful. Christmas will be ruined all because you and Logan are just too stubborn and selfish.

Virgil shook his head and scowled. Damn it.

So that night, Virgil tried his best to conjure a Santa Claus costume. He imagined a fluffy red jacket with white trim and a matching pointed hat to go with it. Then he imagined a fake white beard and grimaced. Ugh, I so don’t want to do this. It’s so freaking absurd.

“Hmm, I didn’t think you would actually do it.”

Virgil spun around to see a smirking Logan. The anxious trait’s cheeks heated in embarrassment.

“Well, somebody had to and you’re obviously too pig-headed to do a thing about it,” Virgil snapped at him.

Logan ignored the insult and analyzed the costume, “You are missing the red pants….black ripped skinny jeans do not complete the look, unless you’re trying to be emo Santa.”

Virgil rolled his eyes, “I’m not listening to a word you say. It should be you in this stupid outfit.”

“At least, wipe the eyeshadow off. If they do spot you, you’re just going to frighten them.”

The anxious side grumbled and started wiping at his eyes with make-up remover. He sighed in defeat when all it did was reveal the natural dark circles underneath. Virgil finished fastening the fake beard on and pulled the hat down so that his purple hair could not be seen underneath. He grabbed the bag of presents and glared at Logan on his way out of the room. The logical side only chuckled.

Virgil tiptoed down the stairs, really preferring not to be seen. He inched quietly towards the tree, taking each wrapped present out carefully and placing them underneath. His eyes kept darting to the stairway, hoping he wouldn’t see a small Patton or Roman residing there.

Oh good, maybe they went to sleep after all.

Once every gift was placed neatly underneath the Christmas tree, he turned his attention to the plate of cookies on the coffee table. He had to eat some or the others would be disappointed. Patton had made them and Roman had decorated them.

So Virgil began nibbling on a few of the cookies. He was surprised to find that they were actually pretty good. He glanced at the lighted tree and admired his handiwork as he picked up another cookie.

What was I even worried about?

“Sa---santa?”

Virgil froze. Oh shit.

“Santa? Is it really you!?” the small voice said excitedly. And then, “C’mon Patton, it’s Santa! It’s really him!”

Crap. Crappity Crap. Virgil panicked.

Slowly, the anxious side turned around. He covered his face with his trembling hands and attempted to smile and sound cheery.

“Well, what do we have here? Two of Santa’s favorite kiddos.” Virgil said. He wasn’t really sure if Santa would say “kiddos” or not. Maybe though. Adult Patton said it all the time.

The two of them squealed with delight. “Did you enjoy our cwismas cookies? We--we made them ourselves.” Patton said.

“Ah, why yes---yes of course. In fact, I’d say they were the best cookies I’ve had tonight!”

Roman went up to Santa Virgil and tugged on his pant leg, “I didn’t think you’d wear pants like these.”

“Oh, um---I---Mrs. Claus forgot to wash my red ones. I just thought I’d try on what the kids are wearing these days….” Santa Virgil said sheepishly.

“Santa, why won’t you show us your face?” Patton asked curiously.

“I’m---I’m a rather shy guy, you see. Why else would I only come and visit once a year when everyone is asleep?”

“But what about the elves?” Roman jumped up and down with enthusiasm.

“Elves?” Virgil asked warily.

“Yeah, elves! You know, the ones who help make the toys!” Patton chimed in.

“Oh, those elves. They’re definitely uh---a hard-working bunch. I always make sure to bring back some cookies just for them.”

“Can we see your weindeer?”

“Ha--the reindeer? Uh no, sorry. I’m on a rather tight schedule and I really must be going. It’s really late, you two should go off to bed now.”

“Okay, Santa. But don’t forget about Logan or Virgil, okay?” Patton said

“You--you think they’ve been nice too?”

Patton and the tiny prince nodded in unison.

“But I thought that you didn’t think of Virgil as nice.”

Roman shook his head, “He doesn’t seem like it sometimes, but he tries. He just wants to protect us.”

Virgil nodded, trying to hold back tears. Damn, why am I crying?

“Ye--yes. That’s true. He cares about you more than you’ll ever know….Don’t worry, Santa’s got a gift for both of them. Off to bed now.”

Roman and Patton hugged him before walking back upstairs.

“We love you, Santa!”

“Santa loves you too. Uh, don’t forget to be nice. I really liked those christmas cookies and I wouldn’t want to have to miss out on them next year.”

“Don’t worry. We’re gonna be the most nicest kids ever!” Roman said, giving him a thumbs-up.

Virgil smiled as they retreated back upstairs.

He sighed in relief when they were finally gone.

Back in his room upstairs, he took off the Santa outfit.

“So, how’d it go?” Logan asked from out of nowhere.

The anxious side jumped, “Stop sneaking up on me!”

“Sorry. Really though, how’d it go?”

“None of your business.”

“They saw you, didn’t they?” Logan grinned.

“Out!”

Logan smirked teasingly before exiting the room.

Virgil didn’t care. He had done his part and he had been rewarded for it. He lay down on his bed and closed his eyes, smiling softly. They think I’m nice.

I have heard of ways to get around this, such as getting listed as a secondary driver and having my dad as the primary driver and just me as a temporary driver. I don't think it would matter though, I doubt it is risky that if I did need a claim they would investigate how much I had the car... But what my dad seems to think is that he can only have a certain amount of cars listed as him as primary. My mom and dad live together and together own a 1994 Intrepid, 2003 Cadillac CTS and a 1988 Corvette (that is insured for only 5 months a year, stored in the winter). I am only insured as a temporary driver on the Intrepid as it is too expensive for anything else. I also have a 21 year old sister who is in the same situation (lives at home for 4 months a year) but she has just bought her own car and is her own primary driver. So I don't think that should affect me at all, it is cheap enough for a female to get primary insurance at this age. So now I want to buy a sports car.
