"Astral Plane." Wow, they are really jumping through hoops to justify the characters fighting Heartless (particularly Emblem Heartless) long before Birth by Sleep.

The anti-Wiccan ranting among some occultists and Neo Pagans is so self-righteous and all over social media and all their rants about how "problematic" it is are things true in ALL forms of Neo Paganism.
And don't get me started on those that start calling you ill-educated, or stupid for considering Wicca a flavor of Neo-Paganism.
It's like they think the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn were doing things precisely the way the Ancient Greeks were. There's a reason that "Neo" is there. It means "new." Whether you like it or not all forms of Neo Pagan religion are cobbled together from scraps or re-invented whole cloth and, whether they want to admit it or not, borrowing from each other.
You'll find Diana worshipers using Gaelic symbolism, Morpheus invocations using the poppy flower as a symbol in the summoning. (Morphine's connection to the God of Dreams is a nineteenth century invention), and you'll find Asatru followers arguing with Greco-Roman Pagans about which religion came up with werewolves first, usually the Asatru insisting their religion is the source (even though the very word lycanthrope comes from the Greek myth of king Lycaon of Arcadia).
It's weirdly fashionable to be anti-Wiccan because of some of the questionable people who have been tied to it like Gardner and Crowley. Crowley's biggest contribution was the spelling of Magic with a k to differentiate between illusion and occult practice. That man has a very questionable history but sometimes not-so-great people come up with good ideas. And a quick visual distinction between illusion and spell casting is convenient, no matter who invented it. "But Wiccans culturally appropriate!" Annnd? Name a religion that doesn't. Borrowing aspects of faith from open religions is not "appropriation."
If it's your faith you believe it to be true, you're not "stealing it." We don't call it appropriation when a scientist adopts another scientist's theory because it has logic that makes sense to him.
Just because it's popular to bash something and call it bad doesn't make it right. I do not agree with attacking aging hippies for following the "wrong" religion.
It's shameful and I think a lot of the people doing this aren't self-aware enough to realize they are behaving like the very oppressive "Christians" that may have once told them that they were Satanic and going to Hell for following the wrong religion.
Yes, Wicca is a "New" patchwork quilt of old folk beliefs but that shouldn't offend you by their merely existing.
I have news for you. This is true with most religions and this is especially true with Neo Paganism. It's part of why there are so many Astru bigots, because the version INVENTED (yes, invented) in the late nineteenth century and later adopted by some World War 2 Nazis was cobbled together by a bigot.
And though it might anger you to consider Wicca to be a form of Neo Paganism, it is. Its conception is very similar to how most Neo Paganism was shaped a century earlier. Most true Ancient Pagan practices have been lost to history. It's all reinvention or borrowings now.
Stop looking for religions to hate. It's like watching the Pagan equivalent of "I'm Protestant and those Catholics are NOT Christians! Look at all the horrible things they've done as a collective. We've never done anything bad ever as a collective group!"
And then in a special kind of cognitive dissonance, you get the ones who don't like Wicca for the "Harm none" rule and think calling them the "Fluffy bunny of Paganism" is the great Gotchya to shame them. It's so strange to me.

what do you think of the costumes from the drama Royal Feast/尚食 ? It's set in the kitchens of the ming dynasty. The higher ranking ladies in charge of food have a really interesting hairstyle, but I couldn't find anything about it
Firstly I think the costuming in this drama is very much in the repertoire of "dramas that use costumes from all over the Ming Dynasty anachronistically regardless of the actual time setting", so it isn't historically accurate by any measure. I'm sorry I can't be bothered to find the ladies you're talking about because this drama and stuff surrounding it annoy me to no end. The story is allegedly set between the Yongle and Xuande eras (1404-35) in the early Ming, but as always many of the costumes are taken from the late Ming and even the Qing. I shouldn't need to say this but the Ming Dynasty was long, and what people wore in 1404 obviously wasn't going to be the same as what they wore in 1620. Well, this drama doesn't care. This kind of anachronistic mishmash of Ming fashions was fresh and cool when Song of Youth did it first, because at the time the bar for costuming was so low and people were so starved of Ming representation that it was impressive for dramas to have costumes that have even the slightest twinge of connection to the Ming, but now I'm starting to see a trend and it's disturbing. If I'm watching something set in the early 15th century I want to see the early 15th century, not the 16th or 17th or even 18th for God's sake. I think the Chinese period drama industry needs to actually have standards now, because otherwise instead of improving the quality and accuracy of costuming, it's just going to replace guzhuang norms with a new but equally bullshit set of norms.
Tumblr media
Looking at what the guy is wearing here, this kind of gunfu robe with colorful roundels and hat with the gold decorations were not seen on formal portraits of emperors until Emperor Longqing (reign 1567-72) 150+ years into the future. This is already enough for me to rest my case.
Tumblr media
I strongly urge some of these costumes to go back to their respective corners of the Ming Dynasty since few of them are from between 1404 and 1435. Aside from the anachronism, some of the costumes are badly constructed and come from nowhere in the Ming. It's repeatedly mentioned on online sources that the costumers referenced 明宪宗元宵行乐图, which I find hilarious that they think it's a good thing because that artwork is from 1485, 50 years in the future (not to mention that the full skirt look of that era was distinct and not existent earlier).
@guzhuangheaven posted a gifset from this drama that looks almost 100% 18th century (Qianlong era, as always. I'm not even surprised at this point)
On top of the bad costuming, the producer Yu Zheng again does what he does best and tries to play the nationalism card by picking fights with Korean people online (whether they are genuine Koreans or hired actors/photoshopped screenshots I will never know) who claimed some elements of the costuming and plot plagiarized iconic 2003 Korean drama Dae Jang Geum. I don't even care whether it was true, it's this attitude of always trying to artificially manufacture hatred against Koreans to make himself look good. It's like he's much less concerned with making an actually good drama than generating clout. I am so sick and tired of his shenanigans I just want a drama with decent, non time travelling costumes is that too much to ask for.

Barbatos's Questioning Continues
General warning: some mish-mashing of lessons
"Did you have any pacts at the time of your possession?" Barbatos asks once the truth serum goes into effect again.
"Yes. Mammon was the first, and Leviathan was the second," I answer.
"Were you instructed to go after a specific brother once you were back in this reality?"
"Beelzebub."
"Who was next?"
"Asmodeus, and finally Satan."
"If you were able to act as you wished, would you have made pacts with any of the brothers during your stay here?"
"Not at first. I would want to focus on studying. I think Satan would have been the first demon I made a pact with, for we were starting to become friends during the first few weeks of my stay, but that wouldn't have happened for a long time."
"I see. What about Lucifer?"
"I honestly don't know. He doesn't seem like the type to make pacts with ordinary humans."
"Would you want a pact with him?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"He's the one I was most drawn to in the beginning."
"Speaking of which, when did he find out that Belphegor possessed you?" I tell him about the one evening in the music room in the music room where Belphie used me as a mouthpiece. "What if I told you that Lucifer suspected something was wrong the morning after you and Belphegor met?" My eyes widen as my mouth opens in shock.
"How did he know?"
"He said that he noticed that your eyes had a hint of purple in them after you refused to answer him about what happened the night before." I sigh.
"That would probably be because Belphie told me to lie to Lucifer and tell him that nothing happened." Barbatos writes on his notepad again.
"The incident that occurred in the music room only confirmed his suspicions. That would mean that Beelzebub was the second to doubt that things were normal with you. Now, did Belphegor control your actions when you were in the underground tomb?"
"No. I acted on my own. I was the one that allowed Luke to stay at the House of Lamentation. I wasn't about to stand there and let Lucifer punish Beel for something I did."
"Interesting. Very interesting." The sound of scribbling fills the room.
"Going back to an earlier topic, did Lucifer ever explain to you why he allowed you to go up the stairs?"
"Yes, at the dance during the exchange retreat. He told me that it was less dangerous for me to voluntarily sleepwalk to Belphie than it was to continue preventing me from doing so."
"How?"
"He said that his brother would get more desperate the longer he had to wait for me to come to him."
"I see." Closing his notepad, Barbatos sighs. "I shouldn't be telling you this, but Lucifer's in a lot of trouble. He failed to follow a direct order, which means that he will be found guilty of treason."
"What about the rest of the brothers?"
"Their punishments won't be as severe. Asmodeus, Leviathan, and Mammon had very little involvement in all of this, so they will escape relatively scot-free. Beelzebub and Satan will receive slightly heavier punishments, but it's nothing they can't handle. Belphegor's guilty of disagreeing with Diavolo, but that's not nearly as bad of a crime as treason."
"What's the punishment for treason?"
"Several centuries of torture, followed by vanquishment. He would no longer exist in any plane of reality."
"Forgive me for asking, but how is any of this questioning going to change Lucifer's fate? It seems like an open-and-shut case to me."
"How so?" Why is he smiling? Granted, it's faint, but it's still a smile. Is he testing me?
"Lord Diavolo ordered Lucifer to give Belphie over to him so that he could punish the youngest brother for going against his will. Lucifer disobeyed him. I'm sure you know that Lucifer's reasons were honorable, but an order's an order. If law dictates that Lucifer committed treason, then he needs to be punished for it, doesn't he?"
"Technically, yes. However, I believe there is one small detail that we can use to save Lucifer: he wasn't actually involved in Belphegor's escape."
"No, but I was. Heavily, as a matter of fact, although not by choice."
"As a living human, Lord Diavolo cannot use traditional punishments for anything you've done. Most likely, he will simply send you back to the human world and allow the authorities there to deal with you then. However, I have an idea about how to avoid all of this."
"Is this a trick?" Barbatos shakes his head.
"The Young Master has no clue about this idea. At least, not yet. I do believe that he will go along with it, though, especially if you help me."
"What's your idea?" Barbato grins.
"The spell Lucifer put on the attic door required the power of six demons to break. You only made pacts with five demons, and Belphegor obviously couldn't be the sixth. Neither could Lucifer, since he wasn't one of the demons you made a pact with. The only other being that would have both cared enough about Belphegor to help him escape and had enough power to do so would be their sister."
"Lilith."
"Correct. Now, she didn't become a demon with her brothers but a human instead. Based on everything the brothers have said and my own observations, I have reason to believe that you might be related to the human Lilith and that you've come into possession of some of her lost power."
"But I lack the ability to control any of the demons I have a pact with. Isn't that necessary to break a curse as powerful as the one on the attic door?"
"It is. Belphegor was right when he told you that you could bend demons to your will, and you have. It may not be with the consistency that someone like Solomon may have, but you have demonstrated control over the brothers." I can't focus too much on Barbato's compliment, for there's a much more pressing issue that needs addressed immediately.
"So, what are you expecting to happen once you prove that I'm related to Lilith?"
"The Young Master vowed long ago to not hurt Lilith or any of her descendants in any way. If my theory is correct and you are indeed related to her, then he will have to do what it takes to protect you. You've grown close enough to the brothers that their suffering would cause you great pain, and if Lord Diavolo allowed that to happen, he would be breaking his vow."
"I see." While I understand what Barbatos is saying, his entire line of thinking is hinged on the mere possibility that I'm related to Lilith. It's just as likely that I'm just a regular human with no connection to her whatsoever. However, I know that if I don't help Barbatos, then the brothers will suffer, and I can't allow that to happen.
"What do we need to do to prove my ancestry?"

We don't pull off this guy and pull people off for real we are not going to have anything I hear what it is and why there's an issue these guys are encountering the armies that they were raising by having people die and missed it still miss it and for some reason they're fighting them and sort of know it and the threatening that s*** out of him so he used it to direct more people at the max and they're going to be fighting each other over the stuff and think it's okay I don't know about you but I get the heebie-jeebies when I think about it this armies of these and they're different sizes you know I don't need to hear from you stupid people here you're so damn dumb this stuff's been around for centuries you should know about it if you don't you need to be put down you're so damn dumb. Anyways the max get hostile and they're over the top and they're not doing the right thing they're trying to get control themselves and you retards are ruining it and this little guy just wants to live he's really young really sharp and has great ideas and you guys don't care cuz you're stupid and we're going to have to get rid of you I'm not the only one who thinks that way at all
Mac daddy
There are they're getting rid of them in the public and all over the world it was 0.2% this morning an hour it's now 0.3% an hour and people didn't think it would get there right now or up to 0.78 and in moments it's going to be 1% lost today of the morlock across the board most of it is more lock and she's two groups of jackasses we're arguing about stuff they shouldn't talk about. It's not a pleasure to announce it because they are so nasty and it is a purge and the Holocaust on them and we are not helping you because you are threatening us constantly and trying to use devices and so on. As it is the percent has dropped down and it was at 9% and it is approaching 8% fairly soon you'll start feeling it and overall you were at 22% earlier it came down from 27% but that included today and the 1% from today which is going to be more if you add in the minority more lock and the pseudo empire the minority motor lock are about 8% and the pseudo empire are about 6.5%, so that is 14.5% that you need to add in and that would make 36 .5% and that's of the general population and it includes the islands and that is in total so in essence all of the warlock including miscellaneous and we have to add then and there are 2% be 38.5%, used to be 55% you think you haven't lost that many when you try to stop these you get involved and get hurt and so you're letting the mess everything up, you simply don't know what to do. All in all people think it's not going to be that bad but because of recent information coming out and verification of the most likely existence of mega Giants which are actually part Kaiju, which are pivotal in the harvesting of thorium balls which are many many miles across without these particular biomechanical weapons they would not be harvested and would just sit there machines and it have to be replaced too quickly even if you made out of thorium it would not work. there is going to be massive amounts of fighting huge huge fights and nothing's going to stop it and Dave we're going to have you hit for that stupid s***. There's more happening and we're going to get to it but this is gigantic news

Without You
Azriel and Gwyn argue and Azriel can't sleep.
Read on AO3 | Wattpad
Azriel × Gwyn
Words: 1183
One-shot
Masterlist
Azriel couldn't sleep.
Sleep had eluded him that night, no matter how hard he tried to sleep, how tired he'd been when he'd gone to bed hours before. He couldn't sleep.
He shouldn't have been surprised at that, he'd spent centuries having the worst sleep possible, when he wasn't interrupted by nightmares, he was interrupted by problems and his head that thought too much. However, in the last few months these problems had started to disappear, slowly until they became almost non-existent. Coincidentally or not, this happened around the same time that the Shadowsinger started getting close to a certain priestess.
Thinking of her usually brought a huge smile to his lips, but not tonight.
Azriel could count on his fingers how many times he and Gwyn had argued since they'd been in a relationship, but no arguments had resulted in them sleeping in different beds, not until this one.
Eris had told Rhys that morning that his father had spent the last few weeks researching something called “Wyrdmarks,” which according to ancient legends could do unimaginable things in the wrong hands, and that a strange energy had begun to take over the autumn frontier ever since. Rhys had decided to send Azriel there for a few days to find out what exactly was going on and what kind of threat it might pose, but that he should be accompanied, the Spymaster didn't know whether to ensure his brother's safety or to prevent him from kill Eris. However, of all the people Rhys could have chosen to accompany him, he chose precisely the one Azriel would give his life to protect.
Gwyneth. His mate.
The priestess who had won the Rite last winter and who had an autumnal ancestry. Gwyn had spent the last few months researching her family, even writing to the High Priestess of Sangravah asking if she knew anything more about her mother's past before the temple; and Rhys thought he would be helping her by sending her to Autumn with Azriel. A bad idea.
The Shadowsinger had refused that instantly, saying that not even on his corpse would the priestess risk herself for those lands with a war on the way and with Beron allying himself with Koschei. Gwyn had disagreed however, saying that she was a Valkyrie and that was nothing compared to what she had faced in the Blood Rite.
Azriel knew that was true and that whether or not to go was a choice that was up to her, hers alone, but he couldn't bear the thought of his mate in this place. His refusal and anger at Rhysand's proposal resulted in a heated argument with Gwyneth and that was why he was sleeping alone that night.
Their shadows told that after the argument, Gwyn had returned to the house to arrange what to take to the Autumn Court and that the priestess would sleep in the House of Wind with Nesta and Emerie.
Apologies, their shadows whispered. He knew he should – and would – apologize to his mate, but he doubted he'd be able to talk to her that night. Nesta and Emerie would probably flay him alive for upsetting Gwyn so late at night after what had happened earlier. And the priestess would probably be asleep by now—or not, if he hadn't been such an overprotective asshole and she was in bed with him right now.
Azriel let out an annoyed huff to himself after tossing and turning in bed once more and then getting up, would train to exhaustion if necessary, but go to sleep. He would need to be fresh for the mission, especially with Gwyn going with him; if she didn't change her mind then he would be there by her side, to take care of her and protect her if necessary, even though he knew it was easier for her to take care of him than he of hers.
***
The Shadowsinger landed at the House of Wind 20 minutes later, heading towards the practice ring when he caught that familiar scent he loved so much. He thought about backing off and heading back to the house without her seeing him, but he wanted to see her and apologize, so he just continued on his way there, leaning against the doorway to watch her.
Gwyneth had her hair braided, wearing simple summer pajamas, and yet she was the most beautiful female Azriel had ever seen. And he could have sworn he saw some of her shadow around her neck as she moved, delivering another swipe with the dagger. Little traitors, he thought, but he couldn't contain his smile. The way his shadows loved Gwyn was always something that made his chest light up in silent joy. There wasn't a part of him that didn't completely belong to the priestess.
"Is there a problem, Shadowsinger?" Said Gwyn as she turned to him, of course she had noticed him there, she always noticed him.
"I can’t sleep."
"What happened? Are you out of your favorite dagger?" The glint of amusement in those beautiful sea-blue eyes almost made him sigh in relief that she wasn't mad at him anymore. Azriel made a mental note to thank Nesta and Emerie—and probably the House—for that.
"I'm without you" he said walking towards her, Cassian would never leave him alone if he heard him saying that but he didn't care, it was the purest truth. He'd gotten used to having her in his bed, sleeping and waking up with her in his arms. And he knew she did too, Azriel tried to keep the masculine arrogance of that thought inside him.
His mate smiled in response and gods, he needed to take a deep breath to catch his breath. The Shadowsinger brought one scarred hand to her face in a gentle caress while the other pulled her to him.
"I can't sleep without you either," she said, laying her hands on his chest. “Looks like we've grown very unaccustomed, Shadowsinger."
"Is that a complaint, Berdara?" he asked bringing his face closer to hers, his voice as low as a whisper.
"Definitely not." It was the only thing she said before joining her lips to his. One day, one single day and he felt like he hadn't kissed her in years. He wanted more, needed more… Mission, the shadows whispered in reminder, they should be awake and ready to go in just over three hours.
The Shadowsinger sighed, breaking the kiss, leaving a peck on Gwyn's lips before saying:
"Come, let's go home. It's going to be a long day tomorrow, mate."
Gwyneth nodded with a smile on her lips and Azriel quickly scooped her up, eliciting a loud laugh that made his chest light up. That one had become his favorite sound in the world since he first heard it.
***
The priestess had decided to take a quick shower before bed when they arrived at the Lake House, and as he waited for her to go to sleep, Azriel realized that she was still smiling, that that glow in her chest had lingered since they left the House and even intensified more knowingly, that she would be there with him now.
Gwyn came out of the bathroom wearing only his shirt and soon joined him on the bed, Azriel hugged her from behind, wrapping her in arms and wings. Kissing the top of her head and breathing in her scent. Home, he thought, not that estate, not Velaris, but wherever Gwyn was.
It didn't take long for both of them to fall asleep, but before sleep took them, they could have sworn they saw that golden bond between their souls envelop them, along with the shadows that would soon sleep too, and glow in the darkness of the room.

Pilot/Episode 1: Patching Things Up With Pastiche & Fanfiction
Hi, hello, and the wait is finally over! My name is Blessie, and welcome to the first episode webisode log installation I've decided to call these things an episode for now because why not also let me know what do you actually call these things episode of The Science of Fanfiction, where we take a closer look into our beloved works of fanon because we've all got plenty of time to spare till Season 5. Before I continue, I would like to thank everyone who's liked and reblogged the last few posts before this one. It means a lot for a small and growing Tumblr user like me, and your support is something I cherish more than my modules. You guys rock!
Anyways, like with most things, we have to talk about the boring and bland stuff before we proceed with the fun stuff. For today, we are going to settle the difference between a couple of things: first being the confusion between pastiche and fanfiction; then the distinctions between tropes, clichés, and stereotypes, which we'll tackle the next time. It's important for us to establish their true meanings in order for us to really understand what fanfiction truly is, even if it's merely just a work done for the fandom. I know – it's boring, it's something that shouldn't be expounded that much, but I believe that all forms of writing (unless it's plagiarised) is a work of art — and fanfiction is not something we always talk about. I hope that by the end of this, you'll learn about what they really are as much as I did. Let's begin to talk about the—
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A flashback of John (left) and Sherlock (right) finding an elephant (not in the screen) in a room in The Sign of Three. End ID]
. . . I did say that this GIF will always have to make an appearance here, didn't I?
So, just as with Sherlock Holmes, all other works of fiction have their own pastiches and fanfiction, and many more original works out there have taken inspiration from them to create their own books. Although they've gained popular attention, this will not be possible if they did not have taken inspiration from the materials their writers had at the time.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Various actors as Dracula. Jeremy Brett in 'Dracula' (1978) (upper left), Adam Sandler in a voice role for 'Hotel Transylvania' (2012) (upper right), Gary Oldman in 'Dracula' (1992) (lower left), and Bela Lugosi in 'Dracula' (1933) (lower right). End ID]
For instance, Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' (the second most adapted literary character, next to the consulting detective himself) has been portrayed on the screen over 200 times — from Gary Oldman to Adam Sandler — and has spawned off numerous books and pastiches of its own such as Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot'. Its cultural impact served as a basis of how we see vampires today, since some characteristics of the Count were made by Stoker himself. Stoker's creation is the brainchild of his predecessors and inspirations.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Vlad the Impaler (left) and a book cover of 'Carmilla' by J. Sheridan Le Fanu (right). End ID]
Other than the ongoing hysteria over dead back then and the existing vampire folklore, Stoker also took his inspirations from the published books on vampires he had at hand. He is said to have taken inspiration from Vlad the Impaler, a Romanian national hero known allegedly for having impalement as his favourite method of torture. He is also said to have been inspired by the J. Sheridan Le Fanu's 'Carmilla', a Gothic lesbian vampire novella that predates Dracula by 26 years. I could go on, but hey, we're going back to Sherlock Holmes now before I deviate any further. However, if you want to know about Dracula's literary origins, I suggest you watch Ted-ED's videos about the subject matter such as this one or this one.
Very much like Stoker, ACD didn't just conceive Holmes on his own. He took his own inspirations from what he had available at the time.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Dr Joseph Bell (left) and Edgar Allan Poe (right). End ID]
As we all know, ACD's biggest inspiration for Sherlock Holmes was one of his teachers at the Edinburgh University, Joseph Bell. He was famous for his powers of deduction, and he was also interested in forensic science — both characteristics which Holmes is greatly known for. He also drew inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe's sleuth, C. Auguste Dupin ('The Purloined Letter' & 'Murders in Rue Morgue'). As ACD himself has said at the 1909 Poe Centennial Dinner: "Where was the detective story until Poe breathed life into it?" Some other writers he took after are Wilkie Collins, Émile Gaboriau, and Oscar Wilde.
Now, what does this say about us Sherlockians/Holmesians (depending if you're the coloniser or the one that was colonised)? Basically, ACD laid the groundwork for us with Sherlock Holmes: his humble abode 221B that he shares with his flatmate Dr. John Watson, his adventures, memoirs, return, casebook, last vow, and all that. Now that we have this material at hand, we can now make our own versions, takes, or even original stories featuring the characters of the Canon. Our inspiration comes from ACD's Sherlock Holmes, and we now get the chance to make our very own stories/conspiracy theories about them.
As I have mentioned earlier, Sherlock Holmes is the most adapted literary character in history. He has been adapted in over 200 films, more than 750 radio adaptations, a ballet, 2 musicals; and he's become a mouse, a woman, a dog, even a bloody cucumber. On top of all that are numerous pastiches and fanfics, and finally, we have arrived at the main topic of our post!
Fanfiction and pastiche are often confused together since they have three common elements: they take after the original work, they usually use the characters in that original work, and more often than not do are they set in that same time frame/period or not long after that. The common misconception is that pastiche are printed fanfiction, which is only partly true. While pastiche is definitely fanfiction in some ways and vice versa, there are fanfictions out there that aren't necessarily classified as pastiche that have been published.
Let's get on with our definition of terms to clear up the confusion a little more. Pastiche, according to Literary Terms, is:
. . . a creative work that imitates another author or genre. It’s a way of paying respect, or honor, to great works of the past. Pastiche differs from parody in that pastiche isn’t making fun of the works it imitates – however, the tone of pastiche is often humorous.
A good example of a pastiche is Sophie Hannah's 'The Monogram Murders', which is her take from Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A book cover of 'The Monogram Murders' by Sophie Hannah. End ID.]
Although this was a commission from Christie's estate, it's still considered as a pastiche as:
It's takes after Christie's writing style;
It is set in the early years of Poirot's career (1929), which is still within the time frame that the author wrote him in;
It features Poirot and;
It pays respect to Christie in a sense that it stays true to her (Christie) characters and way of storytelling.
Meanwhile, our good and slightly unreliable friend Wikipedia defines fanfiction as:
. . . is fictional writing written by fans, commonly of an existing work of fiction. The author uses copyrighted characters, settings, or other intellectual property from the original creator(s) as a basis for their writing. [It] ranges from a couple of sentences to an entire novel, and fans can both keep the creator's characters and settings and/or add their own. [ . . . ] [It] can be based on any fictional (and sometimes non-fictional) subject. Common bases for fanfiction include novels, movies, bands, and video games.
To avoid any copyright infringement issues if I ever use a popular fanfic in the fandom, we'll use my (unfinished and unpopular) Sherlock Wattpad fic, 'Play Pretend'. You can read it here.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The second self-made book cover of Blessie/shezzaspeare's 'Play Pretend'. End ID]
Why is it considered a fanfiction and not a pastiche?
It takes after an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (BBC Sherlock) which is a TV show, not the ACD canon itself;
The author (in this case myself) uses her own writing style and does not take after the original story's style;
Although it is set well in modern-day London and after Season 4, it also features scenes decades before the actual fanfic is set and outside of London;
I added a considerable number of characters, i.e. siblings to canon characters;
I had my own take some of the canon characters' personality especially after the events of Sherrinford;
It is written by a fan – myself. It is a work of fan labour and;
It is only a work of fanon, and isn't likely going to be considered by the show as its writing style is different from the actual show.
To put it simply, you can have more freedom in a fanfiction as it does not necessarily restrict you to follow or take after the original stories. Alternate universes (AUs) such as Unilock and Teenlock are perfect examples of this thing.
So can a pastiche be classified as fanfiction? Yes.
Can a fanfiction be classified as pastiche? Not all the time.
What's the difference? While yes, they share the basics, pastiche is technically leans more onto the original work's fundamental elements whereas fanfiction is a broader range of works inspired by the original work but doesn't necessarily follow all or any of its fundamental elements.
In order for us to understand it more, I'll give another example.

[Image ID: The 'Enola Holmes' title card (upper left) and Henry Cavill as its Sherlock holmes (upper right). Underneath it is a a scene from the opening titles of BBC Sherlock (lower left) and Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes in A Scandal In Belgravia. (lower right) End ID]
Most of you are familiar with these 21st-century adaptations of Holmes: the 2020 adaptation of Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes books and BBC Sherlock, which needs no further explanation – but for those who don't know, it's basically Holmes and the gang if they were alive today. I specifically chose these two as they are the ones that I believe would get my points across best. Though both are considered as wonderful pastiches with a well-rounded cast and awesome visuals, if we break them down bit by bit, we'll see which one is more of a pastiche and which one is more of a fanfic. (Yes, I know they're both screen adaptations. However, as Enola Holmes was based on the books and BBC Sherlock's fanfiction has the show's scenes written out in most fanfics, hear me out.)
They share these characteristics of a pastiche:
They feature characters from the Canon (Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, and Lestrade);
They have additional characters added by the writers (Including but not limited to Molly Hooper, Eurus Holmes, and Philip Anderson for BBC Sherlock while Enola Holmes has Lord Tewkesbury, Eudoria Holmes, and Enola herself) and;
They pay respect to the original Canon as their stories are based on the cases (BBC Sherlock) or simply what was going on around them (Enola Holmes).
They also share these characteristics of a fanfic:
They are made by enthusiasts of Sherlock Holmes (Moffat has called himself and Mark Gatiss 'Sherlock Holmes geeks', while Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes books are not just one or two but six);
They follow a common trope (we'll discuss these tropes in the following episodes) that goes on in the fandom (Sherlock's Sister & Modern AU)
They are based on a fictional subject (Sherlock Holmes);
They used characters and story elements that are copyrighted by the author/author's estate (fun fact: prior to the production of Enola Holmes, the Conan Doyle Estate filed a lawsuit against Springer & Netflix over Sherlock's emotions since he was more 'sympathetic' than he was portrayed in the Canon – this was later dismissed by both parties) and;
Their writing styles don't necessarily follow ACD's.
Despite these similarities, there are very obvious differences between the two that separates them from being a pastiche and a fanfiction.
Enola Holmes embodies pastiche more as it doesn't stray far away from the original elements of the Canon. It's still set in Victorian England. While Springer added characters of her own and definitely twisted the Canon to suit her series, she didn't necessarily place them out of the social construct that was going on around the characters. It follows ACD's writing style more as Enola Holmes' setting still remains within the Canon's original setting.
Meanwhile, we can safely say that BBC Sherlock is a work of fanfiction. While it did give us The Abominable Bride, the main series focused on Holmes and Watson in 21st-century England, which is drastically different from Victorian England. There are phones, black cabs, and cellphones — things which ACD Sherlock Holmes doesn't have. It also diverted from the Canon in the characters themselves, which is mostly seen in the names: Henry Baskerville became Henry Knight, Charles Augustus Milverton became Charles Augustus Magnussen, the H in Dr Watson's name stood for Hamish and Sherlock's full name is actually William Sherlock Scott Holmes. They also changed the personalities of some Canon characters: Mary was actually an ex-assassin, Mrs Hudson was an exotic dancer who drove a kick-ass sports car, Irene Adler is a dominatrix, to name a few. Moffat and Gatiss created a world of their own featuring the characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which is really what most of us fanfic writers do with Mofftiss' rendition of Holmes.
In conclusion: while pastiche and fanfiction could have been the same thing, they're actually not. There's more to them that just printed fanfiction or pastiche e-books, and we all should take some time to see and observe them in a closer perspective.
And that's it for our first episode! I hope you enjoyed it. It was a lot fun for me to write this, especially now that I'm only starting. I would also like to note that while intensive research has been done on this series, some parts of this comes from my own observation and opinion, which may vary from yours. I am very much open to criticism, as long as it is said in a polite and civil manner. I'm still young, and to be educated as I go is something that could really help me with this series.
Like and reblog this you like it. It helps out a lot. Be sure to follow me as well and the tags underneath if you want to see more of TSoF.
See you soon!

Century House
In the afternoon
It was stressing, the more time was passing, the more Park was actually panicking that she will never found Yirina & Zasha back and she was fearing the worst since the last time that she was captured with Yirina at the Yamantau, the Collective knew that Yirina willingly helped the West even after she learned of the brainwashing and it was sure that their escape put a big target on the back of their head, Yirina been the number one priority to capture or worst...kill at the moment and that fear was overwhelming Park during her work to find something in what was recovered in Peter's apartment, they were a lot but a little that could really help.
She couldn't talk freely to Portnova since that their offices were rigged with CIA bugs all around and even if they could say that, what if the CIA was having their own plans on Yirina and took her before she could with the MI6 & the SAS. Adding to that a race against time with the CIA wasn't really going to help Park to destress more. Her desk was almost filled up with the files, reports, everything that Peter investigates on but it was mainly things that were explaining that wasn't helping to know where Yirina & Zasha could be located...and now, Park needed only one thing: a moment to chill out...and her office isn't the place for that.
Her eyes crossed around the room, sadness been felt when they were looking at Yirina's desk, seeing it empty before they arrive at one thing that Park took with her before going to work: Yirina's diary. If she wanted to get some hope & a bit of a smile, maybe she could try to see clearly & closely what was written in it. So, she got up from her chair, took the diary in her hands before she goes out of her office, walking towards the elevator to reach the underground parking, the only safe place in the building that isn't listened to by the CIA and it was also good that this place wasn't very frequented during these hours.
Park installed herself in the same car that she & Yirina always used when they came back in London, let the radio off for some calm before she starts to read the first pages of the diary, her eyes getting filled with emotions at seeing the handwriting, the drawings that Yirina made in those pages to remember the most important, even Park got her own drawing and she was finding it very beautiful. She continued to read it slowly, discovering from up close what was Yirina's life before everything...
"Why...why did I do this?" She muttered to herself as she was continuing to read the written memories, she was feeling guilty again. "I was stupid, you didn't deserve this, Yiri," She added, looking at a page that was referring to the event that changed everything...Trabzon. "I shouldn't have done this," She whispered, her head going up to look outside and seeing from afar, Portnova going out of the elevator, causing her to close the diary and to get out of the car as Portnova was arriving.
"Park," Portnova spoke up, walking towards the car as Park leaned on the side of it. "I saw you leave your office earlier, you're okay?" She demanded, finally making a stop at least 2 meters from Park.
"Needed some calm," It's what Park could reply to Portnova, her eyes looking over the closed diary between her hands. "And it's only here that I could have a breath without been stressed," She added.
"What's this?" Portnova asked, pointing at the diary.
"It's her diary," Park responded, putting her head up to look at Portnova in the eyes. "I took it before we left for here, might think that it could help me...a bit of hope, you know," She revealed before she starts to offer the diary to her friend. "You want to look at it?" She questioned her.
"I don't know," Portnova mumbled, a bit worried that this diary wasn't something to look at her before she resigned herself. "Yeah, I maybe should," She confided, taking the diary into her own hands as Park crossed her arms, her blue eyes impossible to remove from the diary.
"It's a lot if you want to know," Park commented in a low voice as Portnova just opened the diary at its first page.
"It's like everything she could recover since she got..." Park slightly nodded before Portnova could finish her question as she was starting to read the pages she was seeing at a faster pace than Park did. "Wow, it's...it's...astonishing to see that," Portnova was a little speechless to see the diary, memories that she wasn't remembering coming back when her own name was mentioned on the pages.
"Me too," Park snorted, taking a quick deep breath. "I was amazed when she showed me this for the first time," She told her with a little smile, thinking about that moment back into that old CIA safe house.
"How long it was?" Portnova asked by curiosity.
"It was...4 months ago, a few days after she awake from her coma," Park responded as Portnova was resuming the reading.
"She's recovered a lot, always been..." Portnova was going to continue until she stops herself to talk like that, her eyes seemingly focused on a detail that was written on the page she was seeing. "Didn't know that...she wrote down a phone number," She declared, suddenly getting Park's attention high to cause her to get next to Portnova.
"Let me see that," She demanded, arriving near her friend to check the page where that phone number was, her thoughts slowly gathering to know who could be using that number.
"Any ideas?" Portnova muttered, looking at a thinking Park.
"Freya Helvig," Park could only think about that name at the moment, seeing that this page was written when she & Yirina were in the US at the New Orleans...she remembers well of that moment, Yirina coming back all dizzy after she tried to call Freya. "That's her phone number," She said, Portnova letting her get the diary back in her hands.
"How's that?" Portnova was a bit confused to see that number & Park like that.
"Yirina said that she was able to know that from a Perseus agent in the New Orleans," Park explained, checking the number before she looks around the parking, thinking of something. "It might be our only way," She thought in a low voice before she turn her head around to look at Portnova. "We need to call that number, we could force Freya to cooperate with us,"
"I'm not sure..."
"Portnova, we need to find them, that's our only chance even if that chance is on the other side," Park proclaimed, cutting Portnova in her words as she was looking back at the elevator. "Let's go to a public phone booth to make that call, follow me," She then ordered in a clear voice, starting to walk into the elevator direction, soon followed by Portnova.
Yeah, it was unorthodox as Portnova was saying and even Park was thinking the same way but it was maybe their only way to find their respective lovers again alive and it was sure that the two will certainly force Freya to give up where are the two even after what happened. Instead of going directly outside, the two went back to their offices to grab something to write on & a pen before actually going outside Century House, willing to make that call very fast.
The two went to the nearest red phone booth that was close to the MI6 and the two took directly their roles once arrived at it: Portnova was keeping an eye around while Park was the one making the call to Freya, the stress surely going up inside Park that was thinking about what could happen in that phone call: will Freya help them? Is someone is going to answer that phone call? Is this number still existing? They needed to try and they will do this...it's their only way...
"Come on, answer," Park stressed out after she composed the number, hearing the first beep in her ear from the phone, looking at Portnova that was guarding the phone booth, and then...
"Sonya Kuzmin's speaking," A voice that Park didn't expect to hear came through the phone.
"Sonya?" Park only mutters at this, sounding a bit confused to hear that voice instead of Freya's one.
"Who is this?" Sonya demanded, also confused to been addressed like that.
"It's...it's Helen Park...from the MI6," Park decided to confess directly instead of faking up to be a Perseus agent, that wasn't going to work and what she could hear was the noises of surprise through the phone.
"What...what's the fuck? How did you get this number?" Sonya asked in a surprised voice, sounding a little angry & mostly astonished.
"I thought it was...Freya's number," Park told them in a low voice.
"It is but she isn't here at the moment so..." Sonya explained before they stops themselves in their voice. "You didn't answer my question, how did you get this number?" She asked again, sounding assertive.
"I got it from...it's Yirina who got it," Park responded, her tone unsure of telling Yirina's name to them. "Yirina Grigoriev, she wrote it down in her diary,"
"Grigoriev?" Sonya whispered. "Her? But why...why are you calling me?"
"Listen, Sonya, do you know where they are?" Park demanded, going into the subject of this conversation.
"How the fuck I know? I didn't hear anything since most times except that MI6 raid on a hideout in London yesterday," Sonya complained, their voice taking a tone that was not understanding the reason for the call.
"Yirina & Zasha got captured!" Park spoke up, raising a bit her voice through the phone as Portnova slightly looks at her, having heard her voice going up. "Said that Stone captured them,"
"Captured? But...that's weird..." Sonya's voice was like thinking as if something was wrong and Park could identify it. "We didn't hear anything from our agents in London saying that they got someone,"
"So even you don't know that Yirina & Zasha got captured?" Park presumed.
"I didn't know," Sonya replied instantly, not relieving Park at all to learn that. "But...knowing who are over there, I might think that the two will survive any longer," They thought with a clear voice before a deep breath is taken. "Okay...you have something to write on?"
"What are you doing?" Park demanded even if she was taking off the piece of paper along with the pen, ready to write down the important things.
"I'm giving you...the only Perseus safehouse remaining in London but nothing else," Sonya answered before they starts to tell Park what she wanted to hear since the moment she learned with Portnova that their lovers were captured, writing down the location of that place. "Listen, I may help you but that doesn't mean that you can call me every day,"
"Thank you, Sonya," Park told them with a relieved voice.
"Don't thank me, it's the only way for me," Sonya proclaimed before the sound of a door was heard. "I've gotta go, goodbye," They added before the phone suddenly hang out, not leaving to Park the opportunity to say her goodbye to Sonya as she was looking down at what she wrote, the safe house that Yirina & Zasha were and it only took her five seconds before she decides to make another call...sounding very relieved to finally know the truth...
"Price, it's Helen, we know where they are, find us at the underground parking!"
------------------------------------
Somewhere
At the same time
I couldn't know what happened at the moment when I closes my eyes, trying to figure it out inside of my head as I thought that I passed out in front of everyone including Zasha and I don't know how much time passed before I could finally open my eyes, finding that my vision was at first all blurred when my eyelashes open up as if I needed some glasses but the most troubling was that I could only see from my right eye, the other...been covered with those bandages around my head and slightly stinging me a little bit.
When my right eye could recover its normal vision, I was able to see that I was still in that cell, laid down on the ground as I was facing one of the brick walls, my hands having served as a sort of pillow for the left side of my head before I decide to slowly get my back against the wall, finally able to move my body without having it hurting me, my eye crossing around the room as I could see Zasha who was in the same position as me at least 2 meters from me, their back on another wall.
"Zed," I spoke up, my voice finding back its former tone unlike maybe hours ago, to call them out as their head was looking down. "Zasha!" I repeated again, a little bit louder.
"What, what?" They almost jump scared from their spot at hearing me, raising their head in a fast move before their eyes went on me. "Yirina?" They muttered, eyes going wide on their side. "You...you awake, you awake!" They exclaimed, sounding happy to see me finally up
"I...what happened?" I demanded, still trying to know what happened.
"Shit, you...you passed out in front of everyone," They replied, their voice going back into a normal tone, their left hand going behind their head to scratch it. "You lost consciousness and you convulsed, they managed to control it before they left us...it was like...hours ago," They added, giving some details about it.
"They? Like...the four of them?" I questioned them but they shook their head at me.
"It was mostly Lukas & Beck doing it with me trying to assist while the two other...they left at the moment you passed out," They answered, putting their hands back on their lap in front of them "Those...Bellamy &...Sarah...didn't have any compassion for you," They proclaimed, their voice breaking down at saying Sarah's name. "Fuck, Sarah...I...she's with them,"
"She's Stone sister, been fooled us to think that Harry Stone was still alive...to get us, me & you," I revealed but it wasn't looking like the first time that Zasha learned about it, just by looking on their face. "She...did she..."
"Yes...she did," They muttered, still looking down away from me. "Hours ago,"
"Damn it," I cursed, turning my head away from them to look at my own hands, a bit hurting to have them getting used as a pillow. "My eye..." I then took consciousness of that situation after checking them, my left hand slowly moving to touch the left side of my head, only feeling the bandages that were going around my head to cover up my left eye.
"Beck said that they injected you with something in the eyesocket and that it got infected," Zasha told me, finally looking towards me, a face of sadness on them. "How does it feel?" They demanded, pointing out at my eye.
"It stings," I responded in a low voice
"You want me to take a look at it?" Zasha proposed but I shook my head to this idea, not wanting them to what was under that bandage. "You're sure?" They insisted, starting to move slowly from their spot to reach me.
"I..." I tried to say as they were slowly going to me before I resigns myself to let them do what they wanted to do. "Fine, do it," I told them, trying to stay positive in my voice before Zasha starts to unwrap in slow motion, the bandages around my face after they arrived in front of me.
I was panicking on the inside at seeing their reaction as they were removing the bandages, feeling my left eye getting away from that little darkness before the bandages were all removed off me...and then, I could see Zasha's face going into a scared mood at seeing my left eye...that's eye vision was like blurred at the maximum, my right one staying perfect and inside of me, I was confused about what to do and what to say at this...my eyes weren't having the same vision...
"Fuck..." Zasha whispered, their eyes focused on my left one that was still stinging
"What?" I could mutter at that reaction from them, fearing the worst just by seeing them like that.
"Your left eye is no longer in the same color shape as your right eye," They declared, their eyes drifting between my two eyes, a sort of examination from them. "It's like more a light blue...and sort of going white," They added.
"My vision at my left is all blurred," I told them with a sad voice before I look down, away from them. "As if I wasn't fucked up already," I cursed at myself, just to think of it. "I got brainwashed, left for dead, and now, I'm going to lose my vision on one eye," I mumbled before taking a breath. "I'm a fucking mess,"
"You're not, Yirina," Zasha protested at my remark, shaking their head at this. "You're strong and you know it," They added as they decides to move next to me to my right closely, us looking right in front of us. "We've been through a lot in the past and maybe a lot in the future but we both know that we'll do our best to get it done...we just need some hope," They confessed in a sadder voice at me. "Yiri...Beans...it's hard," They snorted, seeing on their face the first tears coming out of their eyes.
"Zed, don't cry, please," I said to them in a low voice, seeing them cleaning up the falling tears with their hand. "We're going to do this, our hope is coming," I proclaimed before I decides to get my right arm behind their neck, to give them at least some comfort at this hard moment happening...
"We're going to get out of here, I'm promising you that, that's our hope!"

Loki: Every MCU Easter Egg In Episode 1
Loki has officially begun on Disney+, and Tom Hiddleston comes bearing plenty of Marvel Easter eggs in the premiere episode. Here's what we found.
The premiere episode of Loki is burdened with glorious Marvel Easter eggs, from potential future villain teases to skulking Skrulls. Even before the considerable success enjoyed by WandaVision and Falcon & The Winter Soldier, MCU fans were eagerly anticipating Tom Hiddleston's return as the God of Mischief. Now blessed with his own Disney+ solo series, Loki has all of time and space to bother, and the premiere wastes little time throwing Hiddleston from the Avengers' frying pan into the TVA's fire.
After using the Tesseract to escape The Avengers in Avengers: Endgame, Loki is swiftly picked up by the Time Variance Authority - a seemingly omniscient organization overseeing the entirety of time and space. Evidently not ones to take prisoners, Loki's fate at the TVA looks grim, but Owen Wilson's Major Mobius intervenes, handing the silver-tongued variant a reprieve. In the opening episode, Mobius successfully digs to the root of Loki's dastardly ways, breaking him down to (presumably) build him back up, all with the aim of enlisting Loki's services as an ally to hunt down an especially vicious variant murdering the TVA's Minute Men.
Loki's premiere is predictably heavy with exposition, and relatively limited in scope, mostly taking place within the walls of TVA HQ. Nevertheless, Michael Waldron (creator) and Kate Herron (director) pepper the 50-minute installment with an array of references to the Marvel comics, MCU history callbacks, and hints of the multiverse madness to come. Here's every Easter egg we discovered in Loki's "Glorious Purpose."
The Avengers Intro Sequence:
Loki's introductory scene is somewhat of an Easter egg itself, retelling the famous Tesseract heist from Avengers: Endgame. Much of the footage here derives straight from the 2019 box office behemoth, meaning no other MCU stars filmed additional footage or recorded new dialogue especially for Loki. With that said, a few extra Tom Hiddleston moments are spliced into the existing footage to show events entirely from Loki's point of view. The villain's Steve Rogers "search and rescue" gag is zoomed-in, and there's a closer shot of Loki waving goodbye to Hulk in the elevator, as well as fresh reaction shots during the Stark scuffle in the lobby.
An Iron Man Callback:
After commandeering the Tesseract in New York, Loki finds himself falling from the sky above Mongolia's Gobi Desert, landing unceremoniously in the sand below, and this scene might trigger a sense of déjà vu for longtime MCU fans. In 2008's Iron Man, Tony Stark escapes capture by creating a rudimentary suit of hi-tech armor. Flying to safety, the genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist also lands roughly in a remote desert. There's a symbolic correlation in how Iron Man marked the beginning of the MCU, while Loki is now ushering in a whole new chapter, and both begin with their protagonists in matching predicaments. Both characters also crash while evading incarceration, though only Loki immediately finds himself in chains once again.
"Burdened With Glorious Purpose":
As a man who rarely shuts up, Loki has plenty of wry MCU catchphrases, and one of his most famous would be "I am burdened with glorious purpose" from The Avengers. Disney +'s Loki premiere leans heavily into the line's popularity, with Tom Hiddleston repeating the quote on several occasions throughout the episode, the phrase becoming less sinister with every utterance.
The TVA:
The addition of the TVA to MCU canon was confirmed ahead of time via Loki's trailer and, sure enough, the paradoxical pen-pushers play a prominent part in the premiere. Although their motivations and methods are somewhat altered from the source material (as well as their aesthetic, which now sits closer to The Umbrella Academy's Commission), the TVA hails directly from the Marvel comic books. They were introduced by a 1986 issue of Thor that featured several time-hopping agents, one of which picked a random Earthling up for jaywalking.
A Skrull At The TVA:
Given their propensity to shape-shift and assimilate the forms of other races, it's not surprising that a Skrull might be lurking around the TVA's front desk. One of the MCU's green aliens can be spotted in the background as Loki gets marched in, and though it's not clear why the Skrull is present, the distinct lack of guards would suggest they aren't a variant. A timely reminder that Secret Invasion is right around the corner.
The Time Twisters:
As you'd predict, Loki tries running away. With minimum effort, Hunter B-15 (played by Wunmi Mosaku) clicks a device, and Loki is pulled back to where he stood moments earlier, effectively making escape impossible. These time twisters appear to be standard issue at the TVA, and have a vaguely similar counterpart in the Marvel comics called the Retroactive Cannon. Far more lethal than Loki's little clickers, these devices would rewind a person completely until they were unwritten from history. Like The Algorithm in Tenet, but less confusing.
Life Model Decoys:
For someone who spent many, many years unaware he was actually a Frost Giant, Loki probably shouldn't be shocked that some people don't realize they're secretly robots. Heading through the TVA's airport scanner, Loki passes the test with flying colors, though he remains perplexed by the idea someone could be unknowingly cybernetic, Loki's line is a nod to Life Model Decoys, which have appeared in both the Marvel comics, and Agents of SHIELD. These lifelike androids can mimic mankind so perfectly, the LMD itself isn't always certain of the truth.
Secret Wars?:
Whether you've accidentally arrived late for work, or just escaped a group of costumed vigilantes by seizing a glowing blue cube from the beginning of time, being labeled as a variant is confusing stuff. Luckily, the TVA has put together a short animation to fill quantum criminals in on the basics. The helpful Miss Minutes finally provides an explanation of the MCU multiverse, revealing how, long ago, separate timelines fought an inter-dimensional war for supremacy that almost resulted in total annihilation. Since then, the TVA has strictly maintained one single reality - the Sacred Timeline *echoes*. The history lesson bears some similarity to 2015's Secret Wars comic event, in which conflicting universes came together in Battleworld (the setting of the original Secret Wars), and attempts were made to streamline Marvel's sandbox.
The Time-Keepers:
The TVA's infomercial also confirms the organization are led by three Time-Keepers, who oversee the combined reality and dictate the proper flow of history. This big-faced trio were first introduced in the late 1970s, created from the sole remaining survivor of the previous universe's destruction. The mysterious overlords performed much the same function in the comics as they do in Loki, and possessed virtually complete mastery over time.
Kree And Nova's Attack On Titan:
As the animated exposition rumbles on, Miss Minutes (voiced by Tara Strong) uses "starting an uprising" as an example of something the TVA might potentially frown upon. The corresponding image shows two armies clashing, with the blue folk on the left appearing to be Kree, and the force on the right possibly the Nova Corps. Based on the spiky ruins in the background, the battle is taking place on Thanos' home planet of Titan. In Guardians of the Galaxy, Ronan confirmed the Kree and Nova Corps were at war for 1000 years - was the TVA involved somehow?
Nexus Events:
This week's lesson from Miss Minutes explains how stepping off one's designated path can create a "Nexus event," and spiral out of control to spawn countless alternate timelines that trigger another war. This word has cropped up several times in the MCU, first as an internet facility in Oslo (Avengers: Age of Ultron), and then as an antidepressant drug during one of WandaVision's fake commercials. The latter was most likely a reference to the Nexus of All Realities from the Marvel comics, which is essentially a gateway between every possible timeline. The TVA's Nexus events could take their name from the very same source.
The Timeline Diagram:
Throughout Loki's Disney+ debut, the TVA repeatedly use diagrams of a single flowing timeline with branches shooting off to represent unwanted deviations. MCU fans might recognize this from Avengers: Endgame, where the Ancient One drew something extremely similar while explaining the consequences of time travel to Bruce Banner. Perhaps Ms. One has visited the TVA herself once or twice?
Devil In The Church:
MEPHISTO. There, we said it. When Mobius asks a young girl who committed time crimes in 16th century France and the child points to a stained glass window depicting the Devil, Loki knew exactly what it was doing. WandaVision dropped several hints that Marvel's own Satan would appear, all of which proved fruitless, and Loki seems to be heading down the same hellish vein. Alas, there could be a simpler explanation. Mobius claims to be chasing an alternate version of Loki, and it's highly likely the child has mistaken the God of Mischief's famous horned helmet for the demonic horns of Lucifer.
Ravonna Renslayer:
Though her name isn't mentioned in Loki's premiere, Gugu MBatha-Raw's TVA judge is actually Ravonna Renslayer, who made her debut in a 1965 Avengers issue. In the comics, Renslayer is a human from the far future, most often a villainous figure associated with Kang the Conqueror. She certainly isn't a legal official sat behind a desk. One would imagine Marvel Studios has something more interesting in store for Renslayer further down the line.
Explaining Endgame:
During his TVA interrogation, Loki quite rightly points out that it was not he who meddled with the timeline. T'was those pesky Avengers who penetrated the Quantum Realm and disrupted the natural course of events in the aftermath of the Battle of New York; Loki merely picked up the Tesseract that fell at his feet. Unfortunately, this excuse falls on deaf ears, as Gugu MBatha-Raw confirms the Avengers' ambitious time heist was entirely sanctioned by the Time-Keepers. This exchange more or less clears up every single timeline wrinkle in the MCU, including Steve Rogers' reunion with Peggy, and Gamora from the past staying in the present. It's not altering time that irks the TVA; it's altering time in a manner the Time-Keepers haven't permitted.
Loki's "Wooing":
After Owen Wilson saves Loki from being "reset," the pair sit down for a more friendly conversation, but when Loki warns Mobius that cooperation isn't an option, the TVA officer retorts with, "even when you're wooing someone powerful you intend to betray?" Loki has betrayed a fair few people during his time, and Mobius' accusation could easily apply to Odin or Thor. Most likely, however, Mobius is alluding to Thanos here - a powerful figure Loki tried buttering up with intent to usurp him once the universe was brought to its knees.
Josta:
While not strictly a Marvel reference, it's worth noting that Mobius is a big fan of an ice cold Josta. Viewers of a certain age might not recognize this soda brand, but Josta is a genuine Pepsi product that was available in the late 1990s before being discontinued. An early variety of energy drink, there's evidently a few perks to hunting down timeline criminals. In Mobius' case, this includes sugary contraband.
Loki's Greatest Hits:
In a twisted version of It's A Wonderful Life, Mobius tries to change Loki by examining his choices in the past, present and future. Unlike the jaunty 1946 holiday classic, Mobius has access to a handy hi-tech screen which displays Loki's "greatest hits." The footage begins with the God of Mischief's defeat and arrest in 2012's The Avengers - perhaps not an entry Loki himself would've picked for the highlight reel. The screen next switches to Phil Coulson's death (which Loki definitely would pick), before moving on to images of civilian deaths from the Battle of New York, the gala eyeball removal scene, and the dictator speech, all from The Avengers.
D.B. Cooper:
More an Easter egg from real-world history than Marvel lore, Loki reveals the truth about D.B. Cooper - it was Agatha Loki all along! In 1971, an as-yet-identified man boarded a Boeing 727, held the aircraft ransom for $200,000, then parachuted out with the cash. Mobius' dive into Loki's past reveals that, thanks to a lost bet with Thor, the God of Mischief descended from Asgard to pull the plane heist himself as some kind of stunt. From Loki's hairstyle matching the real D.B. Cooper artist's impression to the smattering of bank notes left behind, there's an impressive attention to detail in this scene.
Infinity Stones In The Desk:
The Infinity Stones... Thanos would give his own daughter just for one. Entire worlds brought to their knees by their power. Humans turned into Gods at the merest touch. Gary from the TVA's HR department using one as a paperweight. Threatening Casey with a fishy demise, Loki finally gets his hands back on the Tesseract, only to discover even Infinity Stones are useless within the TVA's jurisdiction. To Loki's immense surprise, Casey's desk draw is chock-full of discarded Infinity Stones, most either of the Time or Reality variety (no surprises there). The scene essentially confirms that the power of these fabled jewels has led to more than a few timeline variant incidents over the years, but perhaps also undermines the once-unstoppable power of the Infinity Stones. Well, the Infinity Saga is over.
A 3rd Millennium Kang Hint?:
In its final scene, the Loki premiere might just be hinting at the future villain of Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. The MCU will soon introduce Kang the Conqueror, a major comic book baddie played by Jonathan Majors, and "Glorious Purpose" could represent the first step toward his arrival. Called out to 19th century Oklahoma, TVA agents find a piece of technology hailing from the 3rd millennium. Though it might be a coincidence, Kang hails from the 31st century, and is known for using advanced tech in his dominion of the timeline. The mysterious hooded figure is more likely a Loki variant than Kang himself, but since Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania and Loki both deal in temporal themes, it wouldn't be strange for the Kang foundations to be laid on Disney+.

Feminism, a term started to highlight the imbalance between both genders and to try maintain equality between both sections of humanity has been moulded in different ways now.
Never was it said that women are weaker and she could be only uplifted by showing men down. To rise we don't need to put anyone below than us, we can all grow together.Women should rise, but not necessarily without men, with men.Together. Women and Men can very beautifully co exist.
Feminism Today
Over the 21st century feminism has been only active on social media platforms rather than in real lives. We can always witness some or the other heated arguments over twitter, instagram, facebook for any sexist remark. They are everywhere virtually but never in reality.
We can see an army of men and women being the flag bearers of feminism and the absolute Gods and Goddesses  of equality. But what happens to them when we face it in real. Does typing something annonyms going to remove all unjust happening in real? Or you do that just because its easier  to type than to speak up?  Have your annonyms army really made a difference in the way people think?  Has it really changed their mindsets?  Or are you just satisfied by a useless fighting  online?Have you won the real battle? Can you also be proud of all your actions just like you are for your words?
The mindsets of people are still narrowed. Or maybe even more because of what you do. Because  a fight of words can only initiate disagreement, hatret, conflict, negativity. It can never change the thinking and do the resolvement, its always the actions what does that.
Crimes are still the same.
I have actually lost the number of crimes on 'woman'(specifically not using females) everyday, every hour ,every minute, every second  with each breathe . Being it from domestic violences, rapes, acid attacks, honour killings, dowry cases and what not.
But you know feminists have actually beem successful in making the number less. You know how? Because they keep on highlighting it so much virtually, that the real ones remain disregarded. They are still rooted deeply while measures are made only for show on the surface. These inhuman acts happen in silence. These issues can never reach justice beacause its the victims, the family who choses to bear it and remain quiet just for the sake of their so called respect and name in society. How hypocritical is that.
You will tell others to stand for the right but when it comes to you yourself you  choose to close your eyes.
You think you are protecting your family doing that. You are protecting those brutal criminals for such shamefull sins.
Making them superior and choosing to sleep open eyed in a crowd makes you a bigger sinned than them.
Those who are rich have some aura in the society and choose to stay quiet just to maintain that. Those who are poor choose to stay quiet for money for it fills their stomachs which had been empty for so long. And they don't even have the money to go to the courts.
Either way crime wins and victims take losing as their win.
Fake Feminism
The only active feminism we will witness is reel.
In today's world feminism is only seen as a woman having freedom in sexual life. Independent is misused for sleeping with every other man. When cheating is justified and the blame is on the man.
How domestic violence if only done by a woman is appreciated because she has done something only a man used to do earlier. It proves her as strong woman.
Web series today are only promoting their idea of feminism beyond every mind.
Smoking, drugs, sex, violence does make you seem independent and open minded. And don't you dare to question them, or else you will be called an anti feminist. By promoting such stupid acts they think they have been successful in rooting Feminism and they are proud of it too. Maybe some of them only want to come up as a messiah in the eyes of the people. Because their audiance is way too emotional for their reel story and completely impathetic towards the real story.  The real story never reaches these platforms.
Going with five boys is a choice.
Yes it is indeed a choice. You chose to cheat. Then how come is the other person responsible for you cheating when its your own damn choice?
Laxmi Agarwal's story was still unheard until her story was on screen. No one knew she had got a price from Michelle Obama for her courage way before the movie was made. Is it necessary for our  real heoros to make movies to portray their story? Why do we only feel when its on the screen? Is our emotions also reel beacause its only for the reel?
Its only one Laxmi that has come up,  there are several being oppressed. But nobody knows that or everybody chooses not to know that until its on the screens?
Movies,  like these nowadays are only made to earn buisness little does it do for making a change because it never reaches those who need to change.
For makers think audiance is emotional and sympathetic but they forget they are not fools.
The whole concept of Feminism is being misused for doing all the toxic stuff which only men used to do earlier. Freedom is taken as to do unjust acts, be inhuman, torchure which only men used to do. But women have actually made a progress in it too. See how equality is being fostered.
Man's sufferings unheard.
'Its the boy who is guilty until proven innocent, and the girl who is innocent until proven guilty '
Some words which are inhuman, unjust to say but are true.
One thing  feminism has been successful in doing, is only increasing sufferings for men. Their concept is a little different. They want to establish equality by increasing sufferings for the men while we want to do it by eradicating the sufferings of women. Either ways equality is there. Maybe this is what they believe. They are justifying feminism right though.
Women are unsafe today, but men are also not so safe too.
I read a case of a young boy in Chandigarh accused of rape charges. He was brutally trolled on social media, his career fully destroyed,  people mocked him socially, no interviewer entertained him, in short he was finished once and for all. This boy was in custody for six years and the girl who accused him wasn't present in any of the hearings. Six years later ,he was found innocent and the girl was free residing in Canada and now she has absocoded.
Another case when a boy was falsely accused of rape, committed sucide because he couldn't face the fake allegations. These false allegations demean their name and finishes them in one blink.
Recently, the boys locker room case became a hype and a topic for all the feminists to jump on. For a chat was released of a boy making a plan to gang  rape a girl. It was a feud everywhere and no one seems to be unaware of it. Later on it was found the boy plan was a girl with the boy's name planning her own rape. The feud was suddenly subdueded and suddenly no feminists appeared for men. The girl was left unpunished and was proved innocent claiming it a childish act.
What would have happened if it had been a boy?  He might have landed in jail right now.
Feminism has only given the ruthless disgraceful females and not woman to misuse this power for money, blackmailing and showing a man down.
Even if there is physical contact with the consent, females can still file a case against the man because there is no evidence in medical science to prove it mutual or forced.  A man will be charged immediately even for being a suspect and even if they do not have any evidence. Some females are ready to sell their respect for the money and if that doesn't happen they blackmail with threats of filing FIRs. Laws are made strict but its only made for the innocent. They are behind the bars for the court procedures are too long and the laws too rigid. It has no power over the brutal.
For a woman's one lie will weigh heavier over a man's hundred truths.
What does it really stand for?
Femimism shouldn't be misunderstood and misused.
There should always be a balance in society.
The culprits should not require our candle marches for being hanged and the innocent should not be hanged because of our candle marches.
People should understand that raising voice against the wrong does prove them right and not suffering the wrong in silence.
Victims have not committed any crime for staying silent and suffering inside. Society needs to accept and seek for justice once and for all.
Feminism doesn't only stand for male female being equal. It gives the freedom to everyone for battling against the wrong and not proving the wrong as right for their own selfishness. Not all men are dogs and not all women are Goddesses
It symbolizes the equality of evey human being. Humanity should be equal in all aspects.

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE RUNNING OFF TO
Cashier: *waiting nervously at bus stop* Why is this stupid bus always so late. It's either early or ridiculously late. Why can't it ever be on time. Fuck. I'm so paranoid. I feel like I did something wrong. I should've checked on my co-worker. What if they're seriously hurt.
Old Man: You've been talking to yourself for about fifteen minutes straight, kid. I usually ain't one to complain, but I was enjoying the silence before you started whining.
Cashier: Eek! Where did you come from old man?
Old Man: Over yonder. *points at liquor store* I've been sitting in this here bus stop since before you arrived, but you kids today don't pay attention none. I could've gutted you in a second if I wanted to.
Cashier: Are you going to gut me?
Old Man: No. At least not now. *lets off a threatening chortle*
Cashier: Oh my god!
Old Man: I'm messing with you, kid. I'm a religious man and it ain't in me to even harm a fly. Holy lord! *violently stomps his foot on the ground*
Cashier: What's wrong!?
Old Man: There was a maggot there. I hate maggots. Damn things freak me out.
Cashier: You said you wouldn't hurt a fly, but you'll stomp on a maggot?
Old Man: Never said I was pro-life.
Cashier: *begins to walk away*
Old Man: Where ya going, kid?
Cashier: I can't trust you, old fucking man! I'd rather walk home then stand around with you.
Old Man: Good thing you told me you were walking home so I can follow ya there. *chortles*
Cashier: Shit! *starts running*
*streets lights burst and the old man screams*
Cashier: SHIT! *runs and hides in an alleyway* What the fuck is even happening to me? I shouldn't have left early. I should've checked on my co-worker. This is some form of karmic retribution.
???: NO IT IS NOT, HUMAN.
Cashier: Who the fuck's there!? Where are you!?
???: YOU CANNOT SEE ME BUT I CAN SEE YOU VERY CLEARLY. I CAN SEE ALL PERMUTATIONS OF YOUR FUTURE, AND NONE WOULD END WELL FOR YOU TONIGHT.
Cashier: What?
???: IF NOT FOR MY INTERVENTION, THE OLD MAN WOULD HAVE BECOME INTERESTED ENOUGH IN KILLING YOU TO HAVE TRIED IT OUT. IF NOT, YOUR BUS WOULD HAVE COLLIDED INTO AN ONCOMING TRUCK, KILLING YOU INSTANTLY. AND LET US SAY THAT YOU DECIDED TO CHECK UP ON YOUR FRIEND AT YOUR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. WELL, IN THAT CASE YOU WOULD HAVE MET ME MUCH EARLIER. I AM NOT GOING TO PRETEND THAT I HAVE ANY GOOD INTENTIONS FOR YOU HUMAN.
Cashier: You're saying that I was doomed no matter what?
???: HMM, NOT NECESSARILY. I WOULD SAY THAT YOU ARE IRREVOCABLY DOOMED AT THIS MOMENT, AS I HAVE TOTAL CONTROL OVER YOUR FUTURE AND NO INTENT TO LET YOU LIVE.
Cashier: But why? You don't have to kill me. I'm sure you could let me live.
???: I AM HUNGRY. SORRY, BUT I ONLY GET TO ENJOY A MEAL ONCE EVERY FEW CENTURIES. THINK OF IT THIS WAY, AFTER I FINISH EATING YOU, I WON'T HAVE TO EAT ANYONE ELSE FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS. YOU ARE DOING SOMEONE ELSE A COURTESY TO WHICH I AM SURE THEY WILL BE VERY GRACIOUS.
Cashier: I don't care about anyone else! I don't want to die! Please, I have a family that will miss me!
???: I DO NOT KNOW WHAT A FAMILY IS. GOODBYE, HUMAN. OR AS THE FANCIER HUMANS WOULD SAY, BONER APE TITS... I THINK.
*thousands of maggots crawl out of the shadow and onto the cashier's body meticulously chewing away pieces of flesh as they crawl along*
Cashier: No! It hurts! I don't want to die! Someone help me! Help!
Amorphous Blob: *watches quietly as the cashier froths at the mouth and quietly flails on the ground* HUMANS ARE SO MENTALLY FRAGILE. FEEDING OFF THEIR FEAR IS SO EASY. AS IF I WOULD EVER LET MY PERFECT CATERPILLARS CHEW ON DISGUSTING SULFURIC HUMAN FLESH.
Amorphous Blob: *burps* OH, EXCUSE-AND-MWAH. SUCH A DELICIOUS DINNER SEEMS TO HAVE MADE ME UNCOUTH. GOODNESS, I WISH MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER WAS HERE TO EXPERIENCE ME SPEAKING THE ROMANTIC FANCY HUMAN LANGUAGE TO HIM. *pops open locket containing picture of some guy*
Amorphous Blob: OH, MY ONE HUMAN LOVE. MY ONE REASON TO EXIST. HOW MY ICHOR QUIVERS FOR YOU SO. YOU ARE SO HANDSOME, SO GENTLE, SO KIND. I BELIEVE IN FANCY HUMAN LANGUAGE THEY WOULD REFER TO YOU AS "SAY MAGNET FEET". *sigh* I MISS YOU SO MUCH, MY DEAR.
Amorphous Blob: *slips locket back into its goo* BUT I MUST BE GOING NOW. I HAVE A MISSION I MUST COMPLETE. OFF I GO TO- *spots a woman's clothing store across the street* GOODNESS, THAT FACILITY LOOKS POSITIVELY GLAMOROUS. I WONDER IF I COULD... NO! I NEED TO STICK TO MY QUEST. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN ENOUGH BEAUTY PRODUCTS TO KEEP MY VAIN THOUGHTS SATIATED. BUT... WHAT ARE BEAUTY PRODUCTS IF I DO NOT HAVE PRETTY CLOTHING TO COMPLIMENT THEM? IT WILL NOT HURT MY QUEST IF I TAKE THE SMALLEST DETOUR TO FIND SOME GLAMOROUS FASHION TO IMPRESS MY LOVE WITH.
Amorphous Blob: BESIDES, I AM A PRINCE. PRINCES HAVE TO LOOK GOOD. NO ONE CAN LOVE A PRINCE THAT LOOKS LIKE A COMMONER. *rolls towards the beauty store*
Cashier: *lies braindead and gargling on their own spit*
