Double Open Starter: Miss Flirt (Heather/Hunter)
“Like, o-m-g, hey there, what’s your name?”
Hunter wrinkles his nose, looking briefly towards the voice and then turning back to what he was doing-- she was talking to him?!
“Uh, me?”
Heather giggles, absently twisting a lock of her hair around her finger. “Um, like, yeah, you. I’m Heather.”
Hunter nods slowly, looking around again, making sure this was actually happening and he wasn’t losing his mind. “Hunter. Hunter Blake.”
“Well, it’s very nice to meet you, Hunter Blake,” Heather grins a bit, still twirling her hair. “Where are you from? Here in Auradon?”
“New York, actually,” he answers, clearing his throat, looking around for the third time. This had to be a prank or something, right?

I perhaps sacrificed clarity for wit in the wording of my poll: Which queer fiction experience would you prefer--queer representation without queer themes or queer themes without queer representation? "Queer," after all, has been famously hard to define among its theorists. On of the founders of its theory, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, does some work to articulate the history of its definitional flexibility in her article "Queer and Now." But I think Heather Love's introduction to Feeling Backwards gets at the heart of it, "When queer was adopted in the late 1980s it was chosen because it evoked a long history of insult and abuse--you could hear the hurt in it." This is what I mean when I say "queer" themes, messages that invoke and evoke the hurt.
Of course, as @irresistible-revolution pointed out in a question in the comments of the poll, "don't queer themes produce queer subjects." If queer is understood as the queer theorists define it, this is inevitably true. Words wrestle away from the theorists, though. If you do a tumblr or google search for queer representation, you can imagine what you find. LGBT identity--Q with it's variation between questioning and queer, though often included in the label, fails fabulously in crafting a workable identity; note it's lack of a pride flag or stripe--requires an affirmative action, which is why certain pieces of the narrative are so important to its politics. You need to come out, you need to make your identity visible (either visually, with public actions like marriage, dress, etc. or with speech, which brings us back to coming out), you need to have pride. Any failure to follow through with these acts puts your access to identity at risk. Identity is a potent political mobilizing force and has led to some pretty incredible legal changes in the past 70 years (although, as far as queer identity mobilization, the AIDS crisis certainly kicked that into overdrive beyond simple identity politics). This is what undergirds the general usage of "queer representation:" lgbt identity made visible and explicit. Identity, in this case, requires from its media the same as its subjects. They must be total and pure in their positive identification--positive, meaning additive, here, although the need for emotionally positive depictions seems to often follow--which is why so much discourse erupts about the quality of representation. The legitimate identification of the characters and the work in total is being debated.
If "queer" as the theorists posit it is about the hurt, it's about the open negative spaces where the barbs stuck in. To wrestle the word away from the academics for a second to talk about real life, instead, we LGBT-identified individuals might remember a time before our identity emerged or crystalized, when experiences of strangeness, difference, pain, and alienation were the markers we could recognize. Can this recognition exist in a representation, either a character or a human being's census marker? Perhaps--especially if we consider that's what the word queer is supposed to mean according to the academics lol. But, as the theorists realized when they tried to define it, the definition was liquid and dodged their attempts to pin it down. Describing it involved putting individuals in relationship to their hurt, to those that hurt them, to their attempts, failures, and successes to make peace with those injuries. I hear a proud voice in my head complaining that LGBT individuals should not be defined as disabled, deficient, or inherently traumatized by their gender or sexuality. Queerness, the hurt we hear in it, while it derived from the language hurled at certain gendered expressions that deviated from the conservative norm, elaborated a more general difference and expression of that difference in relation to others, so it wasn't limited to LGBT individuals (which is why it was so functional a theory for literary analysis that preceded those identity categories and tucked experiences and meanings into subtexts). You see, unlike identity, queerness is not individual but relational, relational with those with similar kinds of hurt but more importantly relational with the individuals and institutions opening the wounds.
This queer relationality blossoms into strange solidarity across what we would consider typical identity groups, because the shame or injury they experience because of their marginalization is familiar and understandable (Zuko and Aang are great examples of this). It also means that engagement with narrative is vastly more important than engagement with signifiers and visibility. Relating takes time. Even more dangerous to the tribalism of identity (that's often, as in the case of LGBT identity, established in the face of oppression) is the encouragement that queerness can engender to relate to those that caused them harm, to even empathize with the harm they might have incurred which caused them to project their hurt onto others or to the harm they feel but work to ignore caused by hurting others. In a way, this strips persecutors from their perceived sense of "normalcy." It queers them and returns them to profane, queer, humanity.
I created my poll while watching the anime Fruits Basket. It made me consider other animes like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Revolutionary Girl Utena, which draw LGBT-identified viewers in. All three shows depict cross-dressing and same-sex attraction but, two out of the three, conclude with heterosexual coupling for their happy endings, and Utena doesn't end with any of its same-sex couples together, exactly.* Despite this, the shows are rife with queer themes around parental abandonment, abuse, gender deviance, attachment, etc., more so (and much more successfully, I'd add) than a lot of proper shows with LGBT representation.
Closer to home for this blog, Avatar the Last Airbender is adored by LGBT identified people even as it lacks any LGBT representation (I won't compare it to LoK because it's more complicated than matters of representation to compare the sequel series quality and the subsequent admiration or lack of it). What moves these people in the show? I could be wrong, here, many people watch shows with a much less analytical and empathetic style than me. Yet, it's hard to ignore how prevalent the queer themes of Avatar the Last Airbender are. These narratives of disappointing and losing parental figures, attempting and failing to live up to expectations, betraying your own values in response to alienation and grief, embracing victimhood or villainy or savior status to garner a sense of self even if it is false until you find something truer. These are deeply queer themes not because only LGBT-identified people experience them but because they are in response to deep wells of hurt. What they result in when probed, however, is a world much more open to LGBT practices and queer practices. It's often thought said Katara and Aang's final kiss feels tacked on, as if it furnishes this queer text with a conservative heterosexual ending. Focusing merely on their genders, this ignores so many aspects of Katara and Aang's journey, of course, that make their particular heterosexual dynamic quite queer (their colonized status, their gender expressions, the development of their relationship beyond simple dynamics of hero and damsel in distress), not to mention the embrace between Zuko and Aang at Zuko's coronation that offers possibilities like 1800s style romantic friendships beyond the last scene. It's quite possible, I'm saying, that we love ATLA because its more queer than other explicitly LGBT offerings.
If it isn't clear, when choosing between the two options, I'd choose queer themes without queer representation. I appreciate the inclination toward the other. I want to see character allowed to have fall for and have sex with the same genders. I want to see characters who explore and transition with their genders and gender expressions. I yearn for characters like myself. But I recognize how hollow that can quickly turn. Who I am is more complex than a simply LGBT identity. In fact, there are plenty of LGBT characters and people I feel no personal connection to. Aang feels much closer to my personality than any explicitly gay character I've ever encountered. And I've often related to people who experienced marginalization because of their race and intellectual intensity much easier than I've related to anyone over their LGBT status. Representation is cool and interesting and can be explored in so many cool ways, and I love it and obsess over it, but it has it's limits, and one of them is that representation doesn't render good fiction. It's just a demographic. If you're into that stuff (and it's intricacies, like me), cool. Fiction just needs to take a little more time, breathe a little more, be a little more weird and long-winded and hurt, and by all that I mean queer.

i would like to hear everyone's favorite total drama episodes. please reply with your favorite episode + why
mine: 3x23 "awwwww, drumheller"
tdwt had my favorite final four (fruity four undefeated), and they were just so perfect in this episode. aleheather romantic tension was off the chain. alejandro was slimy as ever. cody made a poop dinosaur. heather likes glitter glue. sierra kept trying to kill heather. sierra blew up the fucking plane. and let's not forget about the masterpiece that is "this is how we will end it". that shit had me ascending. that motherfucker alejandro left bridgette stuck to a pole, robbed leshawna of her fabulous soul, made even COURTNEY lose control, and now he was gonna leave heather wedged up in a hole. god damn. everything about this episode was incredible. the only bad thing was sierra getting eliminated. but it had to happen for aleheather finale.
(honorable mention to 5x08 "you regatta be kidding me" for the part when mal makes the fake engine noises. funniest moment in total drama history it is absolutely sickening to watch)

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
Tumblr media
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Summary: 🎉🤯☠
This book is super messed up, in the best way possible. This book is about a group that has spent every New Year’s Eve together since college. Now, they are in their 30s, and they want to keep this friendship alive, though a lot has changed. This year, the “new girl” to the group, Emma, was in charge of planning everything, and she chose to party in the wilderness of Scotland. There’s fabulous Miranda with her equally as-fabulous husband Julien, new parents Samira and Giles with their baby, Emma’s weird but “totally harmless” boyfriend Mark, posh Nick and his American boyfriend Bo, and lawyer Kate. Heather and Doug, two basically strangers, run the lodge that this fancy group was supposed to get all to themselves. Of course, a creepy Icelandic couple just has to ruin the moment. But everything will be fine, right...? Until someone ends up dead. With little-to-no reception, a horrendous snowstorm, and a serial killer on the loose, the cops are too busy/aren’t able to make it up to investigate. Will the killer ever be caught? And well do you truly know someone you only see once a year now?
I love the way Lucy Foley builds up to everything. Every time you THINK you know the ending, she comes in with a plot twist. I also love how she lets basically every character be the narrator at one point, so you can truly see inside the character’s mind.

"gwen, he got you eliminated in china" "no, I got ME eliminated in china" (the votes were 4-3). i checked on the wiki and gwen seems to actually like lindsay fine enough though.
ngl there might be a nonzero number of people that don't like heather too much but think she has a better chance of beating alejandro than lindsay does, and as i am an h-bombs appreciator i will say harold is one of them. (he likes cody better though) also sierra seeing heather as the Total Drama is real and is how i interpret her somewhat especially when i want to write it a little femslashier
other highlights now that i'm actually writing this out:
lindsay criticizes the costumes chris makes them wear (ft. greece tiebreaker, niagara falls since she gets the two-piece dress, and hawaii tiebreaker)
why was rapa nui not a final five challenge. condor. rhymes with final four.
lindsay's deal of largely repeating the same tune a previous person used (mainly in condor) which gets flipped when she does it prince ali reprise style in this is how we will end it
"you left bridgette stuck to a pole / robbed leshawna of her fabulous soul / made even tyler lose control / but you *can't* leave me wedged in a hole."
tyler, to heather from the chopper: "they're gonna make it / you can't stop them now, just you try / our fortune's waiting / and you can kiss it all bye-bye-bye" chris: "tyler, stop singing! no one wants you to! you're not even in the game!"
beth: "linds will put al through the shredder / she'll get tyler back to bed her!" lindsay: "beth?!"
alejandro makes fun of her boobs instead of her butt in versus
chris says this song is probably not able to be aired on daytime tv now
there was lots of legally blonde inspiration (yes i was the one who sent in that elle woods ask)
- lindsanon
These are all great ideas! (I'm here for the Heatherra crumbs too. 👀) (And the H-bombs mention?! Their duo is so underrated, Harold should've stayed longer in World Tour. 😔)
And it's really funny that you mention the Condor song's annoyingly rhymeless ending, because I've had that exact line of thought written in my outline for the (still untitled) Aftermath AU fic for MONTHS:
Tumblr media
Literally. This document hasn't been edited since early December last year. Does this count as posting spoilers? I doubt anyone really cares. 🤷‍♀️
And I like the idea of having Lindsay's rehashing of others' lines turned on it's head as a sort of power play in her musical standoff against Alejandro. She's the captain now.
(And Beth being the ultimate wingman isn't something I expected, but it's so funny. 😭)

Her Assistant | Chapter 7 - Whodunit
Summary: After losing her family, Natasha Romanoff builds her company from the ground up. During the rise of her company, she decided she needed an assistant, one that works in her office and her house. That's when she saw your resume. After working five years for her, how was it like working for her? Or more importantly, how things progress?
Series Masterlist
Bucky POV Y/N gave me the task of printing the invitation out after adding their names but I hadn't had much experience with technologies. I went to war early on in my life and the technology then and now is totally different. I do have a modern phone thanks to Miss Romanoff but I only use it to call and text.
After much struggle, I finally managed to print one out. Deciding that it looks alright, I printed the rest of them only to realise I needed to change their names each time I printed them. Repeating through each step in my mind, I finally managed to get them all right.
The door opened and Y/N walked in looking a bit flustered. Her breathing was slightly faster than usual and normal walking or even carrying heavy objects wouldn't have made her like this. She walked into the kitchen, grabbed herself a bottle of cold water and finished it in three seconds.
"Are you alright?" She didn't even notice I entered the kitchen.
Y/N jumped slightly when she heard my voice and I gave her a look.
"Did you complete what I gave you?" I nodded my head and passed her the papers. "Alright I'll check through them. Thank you."
I didn't ask any further since she clearly didn't want to answer. But it was weird.
>time for party!<
Y/N gave us our attire for the night as apparently, I was supposed to follow them. Y/N told me specifically to stay by her side this time. It was rare that we got to join the party as we usually wait outside the compound while Miss Romanoff parties.
"Miss Romanoff, it's time." She knocked on Miss Romanoff's door before entering. I knew Miss Romanoff was always good looking, fabulous even but her dress this time made me speechless.
"Looks like there is going to be a shower." She said before walking away from her desk.
Y/N was driving Miss Romanoff while I took my car separately with them. When we arrived, only half the people, Mr Stark, Miss Hill and Clint were there. While Miss Romanoff and Y/N went around inspecting if the things they ordered were ready, I was standing near Clint since I was most comfortable with him.
"Ahh, I see Romanoff has allowed you to join this time." Clint said.
"Yeah, this is a first."
Mr Stark came to join in on our conversation. Even his assistant, Mr Rogers was here. The number of people seemed to be getting bigger. "Well, without a doubt, something interesting will happen."
"What do you mean?" Clint asked.
"Ehh I don't know."
"Is everything to your standards Miss Hill?" Miss Romanoff came back down with Y/N after going through everything. I only noticed Miss Hill was standing near the giant floor to ceiling window.
"Yes, as one would expect from Romanoff."
"It looks as if some of our guests-" Someone entered the room, interrupting Miss Romanoff's speech. While others were still looking at the guest, Y/N sprang into action and invited her in. "Heather King, am I right?"
"That's right. Just Heather would do." The poor woman was looking so flustered looking to be out of her element. Her dress was simple but elegant. But why would Miss Romanoff invite her? Just as Y/N was trying to situate her, Miss Romanoff brought back our attention again.
"As I was saying, it looks as if some of our guests' arrival is being delayed due to bad weather. However, we can all exchange our greetings in the arena first. All the alcohol and food have been provided. Feel free to have them to your heart's content."
I looked at Y/N and she nodded for me to open the second door for the guest to flow in. And of course, Mr Stark was the loudest as he entered the door. "Stay by my side from now on." Y/N instructed.
As time passed, the remaining three guests, Damian Clause, Viktor Shade and Alexandria Caddel arrived. Apparently Mrs Clause tagged along with her husband.
Even though they were all big shots in their respective industry, some of them were rather niche and most people didn't know them unless they appeared in the papers.
I was familiar with the Clause's since I saw them recently at the Romanoff's mansion. He appears to be helping Miss Romanoff with imports and exports since his business primarily stations in Europe.
Viktor Shade works as the Director of Bank of America for five years and Alexandria Caddel is the President of a diamond polishing company. I could guess that from the amount of diamond accessories she was wearing around her neck and fingers.
Maria Hill was a familiar name and when Nick Fury was mentioned, I remembered that she was the secretary. We all know who Tony Stark was as he appeared in the newspaper numerous times for his technological advances and Clint was working as a manager in a newspaper company.
The only person who doesn't seem fit among all the high level positions was Heather King who was a doctor and an aspiring writer but Miss Romanoff wanted an invitation to be sent to her nonetheless.
Y/N gave me instructions throughout the party and ordered me to refill the hor d'oeuvres from the makeshift kitchen. There were lots of boxes with dry ice inside. The amount of food Y/N was staggering given she thought there were only 7 guests coming.
When I returned to the party, Miss Romanoff and Y/N were talking to Miss King. They were engaging in interesting conversation even though I couldn't hear anything, I even saw Miss Romanoff smiling.
Everyone was having a great time with a glass in their hand and chatting. Until a loud shout came from the middle of the room.
"I TOLD YOU TO PLEASE STOP IT!"
Everyone's head snapped towards the source of the sound. It was a female voice and Heather was talking to Miss Romanoff so it could only come from Mrs Clause.
"To have you all over me with your disgusting hands... I can't take it anymore!!" She protected her body with her arms and moved away from Mr Shade.
"Whaatt? You're at fault for wearing those clothes!" He was clearly drunk from all the alcohol he had consumed. His face was flushed around his cheeks and his speech was incoherent, totally different from how he presented himself earlier.
"You really want to be touched don't you? You don't pretend to be sweet and innocent now." Mr Shade dared to step closer and wrapped his arm around Mrs Clause.
"INSOLENT JERK! HAVE SOME SHAME!!"    She finally had enough of his actions and slapped him across the face.
"Why you... Like I'll let you say that to me!!" He raised his hand and was prepared to splash the glass of beer he was holding until Miss Romanoff stepped in and held his arm back.
"Miss Romanoff!" Everyone gasped when she stepped in. However, I was surprised that Y/N didn't step in first.
"ENOUGH! This is a dining hall, in any case, that will be enough for you two for today."
"You old pervert!! Don't touch my woman so easily!" Mr Clause took a champagne bottle from the ice bucket and stormed towards Mr Shade. Before he was able to strike the bottle on Mr Shade, Y/N snatched it out of his hands.
It was like looking at a circus. Y/N jumped to the top of the ladder and popped the champagne, pouring it to the top of a tower of glass that looked like a christmas tree. The lights reflected on the glass, making it glimmer like diamonds.
"When did she?" Clint muttered.
"This smell.. Like it's being in the flower garden." Mr Shade took a whiff and commented.
"That indeed smells good. Would you give me one?" Miss Hill said as she neared the tower.
"Me too!" A chorus sounded.
Third POV After Y/N finished serving the new champagne that took everyone's attention, everyone seemed to forget about the commotion that was happening earlier. The drunk guy was still drinking, Mr Clause was sticking closer to Mrs Clause and Miss Hill was talking to Miss Caddel.
"Так что, как только этот торжественный человек напивается алкоголем, вот каким он становится" Miss Romanoff said as Y/N and her moved aside. "Судя по всему, он рецидивист." (So once that solemn man gets some alcohol into him this is how he becomes. // From the looks of it, he is a repeated offender.)
It intrigued Heather that they were speaking in Russian.
"Тем не менее, демонстрируя некоторую сдержанность, человек должен...Интересно, он просто безмерный дурак или вообще не знает стыда?" Y/N clearly states her distaste in him. A man such as himself was expected to hold himself in high regard, and exercise a little self control in his drinking if he were to act like this. (Even so, showing a little self-constraint one has... I wonder whether he's just an immense fool or whether he knows no shame at all)
Heather let out a little chuckle hearing their conversation. She had some background in Russian as she went for an exchange programme for 6 months. Miss Romanoff heard her chuckle and placed her index finger on her lips to make her keep quiet about this conversation.
Mr Shade soon became too drunk to wake up and this was not surprising considering the amount of alcohol he drank. Y/N told Bucky to bring him up to one of the rooms that Mr Stark had prepared.
Most of them agreed to stay over at the Stark tower since it was raining heavily and it was not safe for them to drive back with low visibility. Even though it was temporary and last minute, everyone had their own room except for the couple and Y/N and Bucky.
It was irritating Miss Romanoff that there was someone calling her numerous times this late in the night that she stormed out and answered the phone.
The day came to an end and everyone retreated back to their rooms. Y/N went to her room after making sure Miss Romanoff was settled.
Everyone was used to having people wake them up in their houses and sleep in later than usual. It was Saturday so it was unlikely anyone had work.
"Bucky. Wake up." Y/N shook him and he woke up quickly.
"Y/N? Anything wrong?" He asked as it was an unusual situation for him.
"Nope, everything is alright. Take this to Miss Romanoff's room and wake her up. I'll see to the rest of the guests." Y/N handed Bucky the spare clothes that were still wrapped in the protective cover she got from her car. "Ah, tell her her coffee will be served on the table." She added before leaving the room.
Bucky sat on his bed wondering how Y/N was already up and ready to go. She looked fresh and alert, ready to tackle anything. It's no wonder Miss Romanoff hired her. Bucky first met Miss Romanoff and Y/N near the battlefield, his squad was obliterated except for him.
Once he changed into proper attire, he went to Miss Romanoff's room. It was his first time being given such a task. He didn't know if he was just supposed to speak or tap her awake. He decided to do the more appropriate of the two - speaking.
"Miss Romanoff, Y/L/N has asked me to wake you up." Bucky said, hoping that he said it loud enough the first time. She groaned and stirred slightly, a good sign that she almost woke up. "Y/L/N said your coffee would be served on the table. She had given me your clothes to change into." He reinforced, knowing the keyword - coffee, would wake his boss up.
"Got it. You can leave the clothes here and wait outside."
Meanwhile, Y/N have been preparing something ominous for the others to discover. She had done what she said to Bucky and knocked on the door of Heather and Mr and Mrs Clause. However, when she knocked on the door of Mr Shade, she received no response. She tried knocking harder and calling for Mr Shade loudly but nothing happened. When she was about to leave, the door opened and Y/N backtrack her steps and went into his room.
Mr Shade was still sleeping on his chair but who was the one who opened the door? Before Y/N was able to turn behind, she blacked out and collapsed to the floor.
---
Miss Romanoff was done changing and met Bucky outside before making their way to the event space they were in last night. Tables were set in a long meeting room fashion and food was ready at each seat.
Names plates were placed at the edge of the table and most of the people were there already and took to their seats. Unsurprisingly, Miss Romanoff sat at the head of the table. "Where's Y/L/N?"
No one had any idea where she was and shook their heads. "I can go and check." Mr Rogers offered since he was most familiar with the place after working with Mr Stark. Tony agreed and he left to search for the missing assistant.
"I have to say, even though this was unforeseen, Miss Romanoff, your assistant has done an amazing job and even managed to help us prepare breakfast." Miss Hill commented as she ate the breakfast that suited her taste very much.
"Yeah, she's amazing. Definitely a keeper, you're lucky to get such an assistant Miss Romanoff. I only wish mine was half as good." Ms Caddel expressed.
"Thank you, but that's what she's supposed to do."
The breakfast went on and no one else talked. All that was heard were the clanking and of the silverware against the plates. Finally after half an hour, Rogers came running back, heavily out of breath.
"Y/N- Y/N she's dead! And so is Mr Shade."
"WHAT?!" The sound of the chair dragging on the floor screeched and everyone ran with Rogers who was leading them to Mr Shade's room.
The door was already opened and everyone gathered at the door. "Y/N..." Miss Romanoff whispered with wide eyes. Y/N's body laid on the floor. The sword punctured her body, blood splattered around and soaked the wooden floorboard.
Miss Romanoff took a step forward and immediately got stopped by Bucky holding her body back. "Miss Romanoff, you can't. You shouldn't go any closer."
"Let go." Miss Romanoff hissed when she was stopped by Bucky. "STAND BACK!! You don't get to order me around." She swung her arm around almost hitting Bucky.
"Exactly how long are you planning on pretending to sleep?" Miss Romanoff scolded the woman lying on the floor. Obviously she got no reply back. She placed her foot on Y/N's torso. "Didn't you hear me Y/L/N? I SAID, GET UP."
"Natasha." Clint tried to bring back her friend, not wanting to see her like this. She grinded her teeth, angered by the fact that her assistant was not listening to her orders.
"Why you..." Impulsively, she pulled out the sword and straddled his body, pulling the lapel of her suit. "Y/L/N! WAKE UP THIS INSTANT! THAT'S AN ORDER." When she didn't reply, she started hitting Y/N across the face. "DIDN'T YOU HEAR MY ORDER? WHO SAID YOU COULD JUST DIE? I WON'T ALLOW THIS, Y/L/N."
Everyone looked away, unable to bear the outburst of the lady that everyone expected to show no emotions.
"Miss Romanoff, that's enough." Bucky caught her arm that was itching for another hit. "She's already... dead..." She finally relaxes her body and strokes her cheeks after tucking some hair behind her ears.
"You're really dead..." She leaned closer and placed her forehead on Y/N's before stepping away.
"I wonder who killed them?" Miss Hill said after checking out the place. No one else heard this other than Heather herself. Since she was a doctor, she volunteered to check the body. She may not have much experience in forensic science, but her medical knowledge was sure to shed some light to the situation.
"I just called the police." Steve said when he came back after stepping outside to call the authorities. "It'll take some time for them to get here since the roads are flooded and it's raining. It's impossible for their cars to get here."
Miss Romanoff was standing with her small back shaking in grief. Even so, not once did a tear fall down from her eyes. Did her pride as the boss drive her to restrain herself so...?
"Two murders overnight..." Mrs Clause was rightfully afraid as no one else got in the tower in the middle of the night.
"Based on my primary checks, Mr Shade was dead around 2am in the morning and Y/N... was only dead for 1 hour at most." Heather said after checking both bodies.
"Yeah, Y/N woke me up this morning." Bucky gave his input to determine the time of death.
"Either way, let's just cover both of them up and gather back to see what we've got." Tony suggested. Steve got some spare blankets and covered both of them.
"Sorry but that's all I've managed to find." Bucky said, giving Miss Romanoff Y/N's spare clothes he found in the car in exchange for her bloodied shirt.
"As of now, you'll be the Head Servant." Miss Romanoff said as she took the clothes.
"What? But I'm nowhere near as good as Y/N."
"It's just temporary."
Once Miss Romanoff returned back with a change of clothes, she sat back down at the table. No one else had the appetite to eat other than Miss Hill who was still singing praises about the food  and asking for more.
"I'm sorry for losing it earlier." Miss Romanoff stated once the plates were cleared.
No one felt safe until the murderer is found. Two people were killed in the morning and the police were unable to get to them due to the circumstances. Mrs Clause was sticking next to Mr Clause as close as possible. While in the far spectrum, Miss Hill seemed as comfortable as ever.
In their minds, people had their own suspicion of people, suspecting others knowing that they are innocent themselves. With no history of criminal investigation, they could only guess who did it. People started thinking of the possible motives.
"Didn't the bank have rumours of insider trading?" Heather mentioned after thinking of the possible reason why Mr Shade would be a target of murder.
"Yeah the bank was in trouble and risked not being able to return their clients their money." Clint said after remembering he approved the article to be published not too long back.
The people in the room started getting agitated because all of them invested in the Bank of America. It was the most prestigious bank and currently is struggling to maintain its place due to the scandal.
"I don't care. I've had enough!" Miss Caddel that remained silent most of the time slammed her fists on the table. "Like I'd stay in this place anyway!!" She flicked her hair back and stood up.
"Where are you going? Under these circumstances, I'd like you to refrain from acting on your own." Miss Romanoff said calmly - totally different expression from earlier.
"You're saying that to me? You're the one that's..." Miss Caddel had another sudden outburst.
"I'm what?" Miss Romanoff placed her fist under her chin and asked.
Miss Caddel was taken aback by her calmness and was lost for words for a second before saying. "I- I know! It was really you who planned this all along wasn't it?"
"I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but please calm down. You can tell this all to the police when they arrive." She tried to persuade her.
"You wanted to finish us off from the beginning and gathered us here to do so right? You - the SHIELD's watchdog." At the mention of SHIELD, Miss Romanoff glared at her. "I'm going home, like I'd let myself be killed!" She walked away from the couch.
"Please wait! It's impossible in this storm. The police can't even-" Heather tried to persuade her to stay to avoid suspicion from the police but she was not having it.
"I don't take orders from a mere doctor." She punched Heather in the face and her body landed on the table, knocking over the cups and saucers.
"Caddel." Miss Romanoff spoke. "The one telling you to sit down is me. So sit down already." The aura around her turned dark and it threatened Miss Caddel.
"Don't order me around." She lunged at Miss Romanoff but was pinned down on the floor by Bucky the next second.
Everyone was shocked by the intervention from Bucky who was always waiting for orders. "Please excuse me Miss Caddel." This was a huge step up from his previous role. Assuming the new role of Head Servant changed him. "If someone means any harm to Miss Romanoff..." He tightened his grip on her arm. "No matter who they are, we would not have mercy on them." He warned. "Please understand... That was the first thing Y/N taught me."
"What the hell is with this place?" She muttered under her breath.
"Let's be real here." Miss Hill spoke up after finishing her coffee. "The only one with a real motive is you."
Just when the masses finally manage to calm Miss Caddel down and persuade her to sit down, she riles her up again.
"There was a top secret plan for the major company in the diamond industry that possesses the world's leading technology to cooperate and take off in the jewelry industry. But a few weeks agos, the plan was put on hold." She stood up from her seat and walked over to Miss Caddel.
"What are the chances that it was because it lost its funding?" She whispered next to her ears, taunting her.
"This is ridiculous, you have no proof."
"And because you had already invested so much on the new invention, with the sudden loss of funding from the Bank of America, you were forced to sell the plans to a competitor in order for your company to stay afloat."
"That's why you hated Viktor Shade and wanted him dead. You think he was responsible for your downfall."
"I DIDN'T DO IT! PLEASE BELIEVE ME! I'M BEING SET UP HERE!"
She stood up and pointed at Miss Romanoff. "BY THIS WOMAN, SHIELD'S WATCH-"
"That's enough." The door suddenly burst open and a number of uniformed police surrounded the place and held back Miss Caddel. "We strongly suspect you have something to do with the death of Viktor Shade and Y/N Y/L/N. We'll be questioning you in the station. Please follow us willingly or we'll have to use force." Philip Culson came and detained Miss Caddel just in time.
"Culson. I didn't expect to see you here." Tony said.
"When I heard of the dispatch to your location, I had to come. I'll take the lady back to the station, catch you later."
Finally everyone heaved a sigh of relief knowing it was finally settled and they were finally able to go back home.
"Ah, can I catch a word with you, Miss King?" Culson stopped Heather from entering the cab that Miss Romanoff had booked for her as an apology for the mess. "спасибо за заботу о мисс Романофф." He said before signalling to the driver that he can proceed. (thank you for taking care of Miss Romanoff)
While in the car, Heather kept replaying the words that Culson said to him. How did he know that she knows Russian from just a few minutes of meeting? The unsettling feeling in her stomach kept growing and she couldn't sit still. "Turn the car back immediately!" She said to the driver.
Once she reached the Stark Tower once again, she kept pressing the doorbell hoping someone would answer. "Please, I need to speak to Miss Romanoff!" She said desperately, hoping someone would hear her. Surprisingly, the door opened and she rushed up using her memory she had when she first arrived to find back the event hall.
"Why did you come back Heather? Did you forget something?" She asked.
"No... I came back to confirm the truth..." Heather said panting from running up the stairs.
"It appears we have rudely underestimated you, Miss King."

Days 2 to 4.     Seattle
It was totally delightful to see Sandy again after what we think was at least fifteen years - and to meet David and welcome him into our special ‘family and friends’ cohort.  We fell in love with both of them all over again and it was a treat to spend time with them.
Tumblr media
Mt Ranier from Sandy's and David's back yard.
And what a treat it was!  We went out to dinner on Tuesday evening, dropping in at a few lookouts and local sites along the way.
Tumblr media
Heather under the Space Needle - waiting impatiently for dinner.
Getting a table was a challenge because we had brought some fabulous weather with us and every man, woman and dog (especially dog - they were everywhere) had decided to take advantage of the rare summery afternoon to crowd all the restaurants.  We eventually found a table in a very crowded, noisy place and within an hour, the place was almost empty - although I think it was the hour rather than our presence that persuaded people to go home.
Needless to say, after so long apart from Sandy and getting to know David, we simply clicked perfectly and had a few days of rebonding as well as lots of scintillating conversation: all quite delightful.
Tumblr media
David, me, Heather and Sandy at a local lookout. (Photo credit a young Dutch couple who befriended David who could converse with them quite comfortably in Dutch.)
Wednesday was a full day, starting with a harbour cruise mid-morning, followed by a huge seafood lunch overlooking the harbour.
Tumblr media
With Sandy on the harbour cruise. David took the photo.
The highlight of the day for me was a visit to the Chihuly Exhibition immediately under the Space Needle.   I really love glass and Chihuly is a big favourite for me (actually all of us).   We saw an outdoor exhibition of his work in Jerusalem in 1999 and we loved it but this one was spectacular beyond words.   He was born in Tacoma, an hour away, but has his main gallery in Seattle - several large rooms as well as an extensive outdoor garden.  The shapes and colours are gorgeous, sensuous and creative, demanding touch (but that is forbidden), altogether stunning.  We spent more than three hours there, amazed and enthralled.  When we were in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens on our way home from Western Australia a couple of months ago, we heard that Chihuly was going to have an exhibition in the gardens later in the year and we decided that it would be a great place to visit.  Now, we are even more determined to make the effort to visit.  His indoor exhibits are simply wonderful, but his outdoor ones are spectacular.   His amazingly complex and superbly simple glass sculptures sit in the garden in an entirely organic way, exotic sci-fi stems and flowers, glass merging quite naturally among the natural plants.  It is quite exceptional, and I urge everyone who can, to visit Adelaide in the next few months to see this extraordinary art.  You might imagine that I was impressed - I was, and I am sure you would be too.
David cooked Stompot for dinner and it was as delicious as it was simple.  David has a Dutch heritage, and he adhered strictly to his grandmother’s recipe.   Pretty simple really.   Place all of the leftovers from the last week as well as all the remainder of any unused residents in the fridge in a pot, add anything you think might improve the flavour, (optionally, add a can of something you find in the cupboard), and cook.  You need to stick to the recipe, but it results in a great meal.
As we sat and talked, I was delightfully amused watching a rabbit and a squirrel foraging for goodies just outside the window.  I love squirrels.  They are so cute, but we only saw one for a few minutes - three of them apparently scurry across the back fence on their way to work each morning and return home via the same route late in the day.   Such wonderful funny creatures, cute and fluid and I love watching them.  (I love rabbits too, especially roasted with herbs and root vegetables.)
Wednesday was another big day.  Sandy had arranged tickets for us to tour the Boeing factory.  It is an hour or so out of town and although our tour was not until 1pm, we left home at 10:15 to ensure we had time to see the big static display before the tour.   It was quite amazing and gave me a new perspective on Boeing.   They are into a lot more projects than I imagined, some really futuristic - spacecraft and satellites, airborne taxi services, amazing delivery drones, surface and undersea craft - it goes on.   We tried to get something to eat but the Boeing cafe was closed for renovations so we went to the adjacent Hilton Hotel to get some pretty ordinary vittles (victuals for those who have not indulged in ‘Great Expectations’).
The tour itself was interesting but in some respects, less informative than the static display.  Our guide was a little constrained by proprietary sensitivities, but the size of the operation and the amazing technologies used are quite awesome.   We couldn’t take any cameras or electronic devices in, not even a notebook, so recalling the information we were given is impossible - even if it was mind boggling at the time.
The logistics, supply chain, and quality assurance issues for such a complex manufacturing business are almost beyond understanding, especially when one considers the risk of the slightest failure.  (Remember the ‘O-ring’ disaster that killed seven Challenger astronauts in 1986.)  Having dabbled a little in similar, albeit far less challenging issues in the past, I found this aspect quite fascinating.
After the tour, we headed for out hotel.   It seemed like a very long drive and very stressful for poor Sandy, but with David navigating, we eventually made it.   The traffic en route was awful with huge trucks roaring past at speed.  The trucks all look a bit odd to Aussie eyes.  Tey all seem to have oversized blunt-nosed cabs with capacious bedrooms behind the driver – but I saw nothing bigger than an 18-wheeler.  On the other hand, Tesla seems to have claimed a much higher market share than in Australia – a surprisingly high number of Teslas are on the road here – at least around Seattle.
Birds, on the other hand, are quite rare – I doubt if I have seen more than forty or fifty birds since we left home.
Check-in at the hotel was a bit complicated with the dope assisting us consistently unable to work out who was Heather and who was Lindsay, and she was unable to find our booking, despite us having confirmed it all in a long, feisty phone call with her the previous day.  She seems not to have believed the documentation that proved that we had already paid for our stay - and next day, we discovered that she had charged our credit card with a second night’s rental, despite obvious proof that we had already paid.  We will have to negotiate a refund.
We would not recommend this hotel - Heather gave them a poor report on TripAdvisor - and getting a meal in the restaurant was fraught.  The cafe was not open when we arrived, and Sandy wanted a coffee.  The bar advertises Starbucks - but only in the breakfast period.   After that, you can’t get a coffee all day.   We had a couple of drinks and then ordered dinner.  That arrived in a strange plastic boxes with no crockery and minimal plastic cutlery.   This is a Hilton Airport Hotel but standards have obviously slipped very seriously since we last patronised them.   Very poor.
After a very disappointing meal, we parted with our friends, all of us a little teary, and we made it to bed by about eleven o’clock.   I woke up some time later after a few horrific nightmares.  I looked at the time on my iPad and it was 8:26am.  I panicked - we had slept in.  I woke Heather and started to dress - until she pointed out that it was actually only 2:26 because my iPad had not updated since we left home.   It was very hard to get back to sleep after that, but we did manage to doze a little.
Then it was breakfast and onto the shuttle for the airport and up, up, and away to Nome - north to Alaska.

Closed Starter: Road Trip (Clue Crew/Stiles/Amaryllis)
“Remind me why I thought this was a good idea.”
Sammy is sitting shotgun, glancing to Lily, then back at the others. Heather shrugs wildly when their eyes meet. “Like, I didn’t really wanna go, I just saw the others going and didn’t have a good reason to say no.”
“You love your friend, Sam, we both know this,” Audrey rolls her eyes with a laugh.
“The real question is why you’re all here. Stiles makes sense,” Sammy gestures around.
“Road trip,” Grayson answers without missing a beat.
“I have an invention from Gwen that I wanna see how well it’ll work on cases,” Oliver admits.
“I’m the one who had the van keys,” Lily answers, glancing to her with a small shrug.
“Adventure! And I’m the one with the weapon,” Audrey points out. “I still don’t know how I feel about the messages your friends were sending.”
“Great.” Sammy rolls her eyes and shakes her head, checking the GPS again. “How’re you feeling about me, Nancy, and Sylvia’s detective group so far, Stiles?”

Day 23 - Sunday, 26 March
We saw a few interesting things today, but the one that I thought most beautiful was a small canyon that Freddy said was rarely visited, but knowing my interest in birds, he took us there anyway.  It was a longish enclosed valley (arroyo) that rose to a peak at the end, then dropped precipitously down to a couple of enclosed lakes on the other side.  After we started walking in, Heather decided not to challenge herself too much so waited while Freddy and I went further in.  (Freddy assured Heather that there were no pumas in the area – they are almost extinct in the area now, although they used to be much more prevalent.)  The floor of the valley was quite marshy with hundreds of small green mossy islands a metre or so across, rising a few inches out of a slowly trickling flow of water.  There were quite a few birds in the valley as well as a few Andean foxes and quite a lot of Long-tailed Rabbits (AKA chinchillas) peering over the edge of the cliffs at we strange humans making our way into their territory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two Andean Foxes, eager for a meal of the Long-Tailed Rabbit on the opposite side of the canyon - and a somewhat closer shot of a chinchilla.
I was struggling with the altitude (but trying not to show it) as we clambered across the marsh and climbed over rocks to the top of the valley to a fabulous overlook across the two wonderful lakes almost completely surrounded by a circle of lush hills.  There were quite a few birds on both lakes, and walking around the green marshy islands under a lowering sky.  It was thoroughly delightful, but we didn’t stay too long because we were both a little anxious to get back to make sure Heather was OK.  She was, of course, and was eagerly photographing lots of unique plants and flowers.  She had also been visited by a few birds and a family, or ten, of llamas and was really enjoying a bit of time pursuing her own interests, including some interesting local geological formations.
Tumblr media
A family of Llamas treading the marsh
There is a very run-down village at the entrance to this area where a number of llama-herders live during the season and there was quite a lot of stock around – and some very interesting birds: ducks, geese and a few small bush-birds.  Altogether, it was a totally delightful hour or two with the rain holding off until we were just getting back into the car.
We went on over some very rough roads – much like some of the more challenging tracks we have tackled in Australia – surrounded by the most spectacular scenery.  We arrived at an extraordinary area of wind-sculptured rocks.  We parked in a small amphitheatre of them, but as we walked around, I could see that the area covered many square kilometres with dozens of bizarre outcrops towering out of the otherwise flat ground as far as we could see.  It was an extraordinary area, quite eerie in its isolation and spooky silence.  This only added to our tendency to see more and even more grotesque beings looking down on us from the weirdest of the rock formations.  Heather wandered off looking at some of the strange plants while I tried to identify some of the few birds flashing around from rock crevice to rock crevice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our final stop for the day was at the head of a remote river that led back to a lake that was home to a wide variety of birds - flamingos, geese, ducks, night-herons, gulls, small waders, several species of sparrow and more. I spent quite some time identifying and photographing them while Heather and Freddy walked around collecting slivers of beautiful and interesting stone - many of which originally formed tools, or parts of tools, from the civilisations that frequented the area a millennium or two ago. Several pieces of onyx and obsidian were found that were obviously arrow heads or cutting tools in centuries past but lots of other fascination objects were also found (and some illegally pocketed). Yet another enthralling couple of hours just moseying around and exploring the natural world.
Our hotel that night was actually built into a cave and our room was at the end of a corridor at the deepest place with just a small window letting in some muted light along the cave wall.  It was very comfortable and we had a great dinner with lots of other guests - a huge and very varied spread of which we were only able to sample a small fraction.

Triple Open Starter: Modifications
“Like, I don’t get why you wanted me here,” Heather’s saying, sitting at Lily’s workbench.
“Improvisation with tools if I’m missing something,” Oliver answers as they climb into the van to start on the interior.
“Typically, Sammy just passes me the stuff I point to,” Lily adds as she pops the hood.
“Great. Glorified mechanic secretary,” Heather says sarcastically as she crosses her legs.
“Y’know we love ya, lass,” Lily looks over with a smile.
“Sure,” Heather agrees, rolling her eyes and laughing. “And you know I don’t really mind it.”
“Yep,” Oliver answers with a laugh.
Heather giggles and rolls her eyes to herself when she notices someone walk into the garage from the open door. “Hiya!”

Septuple Solo Para: I’m Awake and I’m Alive
She finds Nancy sitting on top a table in the library.
Sylvia sighs and reaches out a hand to her closest friend, shivering slightly when she slips into her nightmare. Finding herself in the Jones family home. “Nance? Nancy.”
Hearing a soft whimper, her head turns and she sighs softly. Nancy had a lofted bed that she hung curtains off of to hide her computer and workspace from the world from. Usually, she kept them pulled back... unless she needed to cry.
Walking over, she pulls back the curtains, seeing Nancy curled up under her desk. “Hey. Hey, little one. What is it, what happened?”
Nancy sobs, peaking up from where her head was curled up against her knees and launching over, hugging her. “Dad and-- and Mama Daphne said-- said I wasn’t any good, that I was letting them down and letting my mom down and-- and-- and--”
Sylvia sighs and gently runs her fingers through Nancy’s hair, shaking her head. “Hey, hey, that’s not true, okay?”
“B-b-but, but--”
“Shh, no. No buts, Nancy Kate Jones. You’re one of the best in the business. People request you by name and for good reason. You know your stuff and you know what you’re doing. You know that, and I know that. And your dad and Daphne know that, too.”
“But they said, they said--”
“You’re dreaming, little one,” Sylvia brushes some of her hair back up, wiping her tears gently. “You’re just having a nightmare. There’s another evil takeover in Auradon, whoever started it cast a sleeping curse over everyone that’s been trapping them in their nightmares. It’s just a bad dream, and I’m here to help you wake up.”
Nancy sniffles, lip quivering. “How?”
“You just need to face your fears, little one. You’re just scared your dad and Daphne don’t think you’re enough but you know they do, they think you’re more than enough, and they’re so proud of you, aren’t they?”
Nancy sniffles, trembling against her, her lip quivering.
“Your dad helped you build those shelves you keep all your trophies from your cases on, right?”
Nancy sniffles and nods.
“He wouldn’t do that if he wasn’t proud of your accomplishments, little one. It’s okay, Nance, we all know how good you are.”
Nancy sniffles, but nods slowly...
And in a blink she’s in the library as Nancy sits up, rubbing her neck... turning to Sylvia and hugging her tightly with a sniffle. “Thanks.”
“Don’t thank me yet. We gotta find the others. Where would Sammy be?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that’s how they find themselves heading for Sammy’s room, and Sylvia tries the door. “It’s locked.”
“Not for long,” Nancy answers, getting into her bag and grabbing her lockpicking set.
In a moment, the two are in, finding Sammy asleep with part of her closet on her bed. Coordinating that week’s outfits, of course. Sylvia sighs, walking over and brushing Sammy’s hair from her face...
Finding herself... once again in Sammy’s room, but without the closet spread on her bed. Turning to Sammy’s makeshift vanity, Sylvia suppresses a laugh. Of course it’s something like this. “Hey, bug.”
Sammy whips around, tears rolling down her face and trying to cover her head. “No, no, don’t look at me, it’s awful!”
“Sammy,” Sylvia can’t help the chuckle that escapes her. “It’s not that bad.”
“It is!” Sammy whines. “Nothing is working on it!! Sylvia, it’s awful. I can’t do it!”
“Well, if it makes you feel any better, you’re just having a nightmare.” Walking over, Sylvia picks up a hair brush from Sammy’s vanity and pulls up a chair, brushing it for the sake of keeping her hands busy more than for the sake of trying to fix anything. “Someone cast a sleeping curse over Auradon. It’s just a bad dream, bug, not a real bad hair day. I promise.”
Sammy sniffles, peaking at her in the mirror. “...yeah?”
“Yeah,” Sylvia chuckles softly. “Your hair is fine. It’s just a bad dream. Everyone’s been trapped in their worst nightmares, from what I’ve seen. The only way to wake up has been to face them, or internalize that things aren’t as bad as they seem or you’ve imagined.”
“...how many of these have you seen?”
“A few. I woke up my friends Sam and Melinda, and Lillian of all people, then I got Nancy and we came to find you.”
“...this is just embarrassing for me, isn’t it?”
“A little,” Sylvia chuckles. “It’s okay, bug. I kinda had it figured your nightmare might be something along these lines.”
Reaching out, she boops Sammy’s nose, making her laugh weakly. Smiling, Sylvia sighs, getting the mess of red hair to lay flat at least. “So. Facing your nightmare.”
“...wait,” Sammy pouts, picking up a hat off her vanity and pulling it on, which only barely covers the damage. She frowns in the mirror... but sighs, nodding, grabbing her bag and forcing herself out the door...
Sylvia blinks and smiles, finishing brushing Sammy’s hair back from her face as the girl wakes up, mumbling, rubbing her eyes.
“Tell no one,” she warns, and Sylvia nods with a laugh, smiling.
“C’mon, bug. We’ve got some friends to find.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the garage, if it weren’t for the sleeping curse, Sylvia would have a hard time believing anyone was asleep. Lily had been blasting rock music and was sound asleep in front of her toolbox-- probably grabbing something when the curse hit.
Sylvia walks over and kneels down gently, reaching up and grabbing her shoulder...
She’s... in a park? Sylvia turns and finds Lily sitting blankly on the swings. Going over, she drops into the swing beside her. “Hiya.”
Lily looks up and looks at her, and that’s how Sylvia sees that the girl has definitely been crying, though she isn’t now, and just looks... angry, which is normal. “Mind telling me what’s going on? Where are we, peanut?”
There’s a pause as Lily eyeballs her before sighing. “Park near my house. No one really uses it at this hour.”
“Why are we here?” Sylvia cocks her head.
“My stepmother kicked me out of the house,” Lily looks away from her and chucks the pebble she’d picked up at the dirt. “I don’t know what’s going on. She just went off on me about how terrible and ungrateful I am and threw me out. Said I’ll never see my dad again.”
Sylvia nods. “Well, peanut, the good news is, this is a nightmare. It’s not real. You’re in a sleeping curse. The bad news is, I’m not sure which part you’re actually afraid of, because the way to wake up is to face your fears.”
Lily looks at her, raising an eyebrow. Sylvia nods. Lily sighs and shrugs. “Well, isn’t it obvious? It’s about Audrey being evil, how’m I supposed to face that?”
“Well, yes and no,” Sylvia shakes her head. “I know you pretty well, Lily, and I... don’t think you’re actually scared of Audrey being evil. I think you’d find that easier, because then hating her makes sense.”
“What else would it be?” Lily snarks.
“You’re afraid of losing your dad,” Sylvia answers simply. “He’s your entire life, anybody who knows you knows that. You’re... peanut, you wanna be scared of your stepmother being evil, but that’s not what bothers you about her. You just wanna know she’s not gonna take your dad from you.”
Lily sniffles, tearing up again. “Shut up-- no! No, it’s just her being evil, it’s just my stepmother being a real monster, it’s--”
“Aw, Lily,” Sylvia reaches out, pulling their swings together just to hug her. “It’s okay, it’s okay.”
Lily sniffles, burrowing into her. “I just don’t know where I’d be without him, I don’t know what I’d do, I-- I--”
“Shh, I know, I know. But listen to me. You know no one’s going to take him from you, right? Not even her. She’s been in your life for, what, 15 years now? Peanut, you have every right to choose not to like her, but I just need you to know she’s never gonna take him from you. Your dad wouldn’t let her. You’re as much his world as he is yours. He’ll never ever leave you. Okay? He’ll leave her before he leaves you.”
Lily sniffles, nodding, crying harder...
And Sylvia blinks, registering the loud rock music again and wincing, smiling as Lily wakes up, though.
Sammy skids over and hugs her best friend, and Lily sniffles, clearing her throat, laughing. “You don’t wanna do that, I was working before I passed out, I’m probably greasy.”
“I don’t care,” Sammy says, hugging her.
Sylvia smiles softly, and then addresses Lily. “Can you keep these two safe? I gotta find the others.
“Aye, I can do that,” Lily nods, motioning Nancy over. “Keep in touch, let us know if you’re in danger.”
“Will do,” Sylvia smiles and hurries out of the garage.

Sylvia finds Grayson in the cafeteria. Probably looking for a snack to get through his studying, knowing him. She sighs as she reaches out to him...
And is surprised to find herself in what she assumes must be his family home, heading for-- “WHAT are you DOING?”
Grayson yelps, looking back from the old portal to the ghost zone and blinking. “Sylvia? How did you find me?”
“You’re asleep, pumpkin, you’re having a nightmare, you’re still on campus at Auradon Pr-- no, you don’t get to distract me right now, what are you about to do?” Sylvia grabs his arm and pulls him away.
“Nightmare?” He bites his lip. “...promise?”
“I promise,” Sylvia squeezes his hands. “Did you see the sky go dark before whatever happened to you happened?”
He nods. She nods. “Someone cast a sleeping curse over Auradon. I opened my eyes and found myself at the kitchen counter of my family home like Auradon didn’t exist. You’re just having a nightmare, pumpkin, but I ask again, what the hell were you doing?”
Grayson sniffles and rubs his eyes, pulling uncomfortably at the suit his grandparents had made him to explore the ghost zone. “I... I thought my ghost side was... gone. I couldn’t go ghost and-- and you guys all left me, and my dad gave up on me and stopped spending time with me and my grandparents didn’t care about me anymore and--”
He sniffles, motioning to the ghost zone. “I thought if I stepped through I might... might end up like dad. More half-dead than quarter-dead but... but then everyone would... would come back...”
Sylvia sighs and hugs him tightly. “Aw, pumpkin. You know we don’t care about that, right? Not us, not the Clue Crew. You’re ours, we don’t care at all about that, you’re still our friend and a great detective even without being part-ghost.”
“...yeah?”
“Yeah,” Sylvia smiles at him. “And your parents don’t care. They don’t. You have to remember how much of a miracle it is that someone who’s half-dead could even conceive. There’s no way they would love you any less if you lost your ghost powers. Your mom’s not part-ghost, did she have any trouble helping your dad?”
He shakes his head. She nods with a smile. “Exactly. No one cares about the ghost aspect. We love you, pumpkin, as you are.”
He nods, hugging her tightly...
...and blinks slowly reaching back to the back of his head as he sits up. Sylvia pulls back and smiles. “You okay?”
“I think I hit my head,” he admits... before turning to his shadowy form and back again, smiling. “But I’m okay.”
Sylvia nods, helping him up. “Still gotta find Heather and Oliver.”
“I think I know where Heather is,” he says, and she nods, motioning for him to lead the way.

And, he’s right, they find Heather asleep by her locker with the door open. Thank god WOOHP hadn’t gone looking for her. Sylvia sighs and kneels down, gently brushing Heather’s hand out of her face...
...blinking in confusion as she looks around the unfamiliar bedroom. Hearing rustling in the closet, she steps over to it but it opens quickly before she has the chance to open it herself, finding Heather in a frenzy as she slings a bag over her shoulder. “Sylvia? Nevermind, we gotta go, like, now--” the blonde grabs her arm and drags her to the window.
“Heather, what’s going on?”
“What’s going on is I lost my clearance, and we gotta go before WOOHP catches up with me to erase my memories, Sylvia, please, c’mon!” Heather opens her window and half climbs out it.
Sylvia sighs as she follows after her. “Oh, baby, you’re okay--”
“Not for long!”
“No, I mean-- this isn’t real. Heather, you’re having a nightmare. Someone cast a sleeping curse over Auradon--”
“Explain on the run!” Heather grabs her arm and pulls her out the window, running over to her car. Sylvia sighs and follows after her.
As they’re heading down the road, Heather holds up a hand. “Okay, so like, you say this isn’t real?”
“About as real as me waking up at the kitchen counter at home and finding Auradon didn’t exist, yeah. You’re asleep, baby, this isn’t real.”
“Okay, but like-- but like, what if, like, you’re wrong? I can’t, I totally just, this is my life, I can’t just, like, let it go.”
“Heather, baby, I promise. I found you asleep in front of your locker with Grayson, and when I grabbed your arm, I found myself in your dream. You’re asleep, you really are,” she sighs. “You have to face your fears to wake up. So you’re afraid of losing your clearance, losing your memories of your spy work?”
“Yeah...” She sniffles. “I love being a spy, I love how things are, I know that’s stupid but it’s just-- it’s like, really fun and I just, like, if I’m not that then I’m just...”
“Another dumb blonde,” Sylvia realizes, and Heather nods, sniffling, crying. “Baby, pull over. I don’t wanna find out if we can get hurt in dreams like this.”
Heather sniffles but nods and complies, pulling off to the side of the road and sobbing. “Sylvia, I’m scared. I don’t wanna just be some ditz from Beverly Hills like everyone thinks. I’m so much more but like, if this happens...”
Sylvia sighs, reaching over and playing with her hair. “It’s okay, baby, it’s okay. I know, you’re scared, but you know something? You are so much smarter than you realize, even without the spy stuff. You know what? That’s just like Sammy. She’s not a detective, she’s not some kickass badass fighter. She’s just a diva, and we love her, and we love you. You are more than a spy, Heather, you always have been, I promise.”
Heather sniffles, shaking her head. “But-- but-- but, I’m not, I’m--”
Sylvia sighs, rubbing her arm. “Shh, you are, you always have been. You haven’t always been a spy, but you’ve always been Heather, and you are loved just as Heather. You can still be so much even if you weren’t a spy. I know you could be, because I know you, Heather. I know you.”
Heather sniffles, sobbing leaning over to hug her...
And Sylvia smiles down at the girl as she wakes up in front of her locker, sitting up, blinking and rubbing her eyes. “Like, ow.”
“Yeah, figures,” Sylvia chuckles, helping her up.
“Ohmygod, like, Sammy--”
“Actually, she’s okay. I woke Sammy, Nancy, and Lily, and they’re in the garage. We’re gonna get Oliver and head to join them and come up with something, okay?” Sylvia smiles.
Heather sighs and nods as Grayson helps her up, taking deep breaths. “Okay. So, like, let’s do this.”

Oliver is shockingly difficult to find, but when they manage to locate them, Sylvia chuckles softly, seeing they’d fallen asleep replaying a certain song. Of course. Walking over, she gently sets a hand on their shoulder.
Oh. Oh this is... yeah, she’d call this one a nightmare. “What in the hell?”
Someone grabs her arm and pulls her down. Sylvia squeaks and looks over at... “Oliver? Jinkies, sunshine, you scared me. What’s going on?”
“You should be scared,” is all he mutters, looking up and watching the sky. “I don’t know what happened, but someone altered history again, and someone went against my grandpa’s wishes.”
“What do you mean?” Sylvia sighs. Easier to resolve a fear if she strikes at the core of it, unfortunately.
“It’s complicated--? Come on,” and Oliver pulls her along quickly to an alleyway. “So, my grandfather, in one version of the timeline, created a robotic bowler hat that was supposed to help someone get ready in the mornings, but, the original variant became... sentient, and evil. DOR15 was supposed to be shut down and locked up as another failure, but... wasn’t off, and escaped. She planned to destroy my grandfather for abandoning her, humanity for existing and my family just to make my grandpa suffer, but... when he was a kid, my dad went back in time, found my grandpa as a kid, brought him back to fix things, and... eventually, my grandpa as a kid, vowed to never invent the hat and fixed the timeline entirely. DOR15′s evil plans never came to be, which meant my family was spared from her mind control based wrath. Except. Somehow. The timeline was altered again. And this is the result.”
He pulls her into a very abandoned looking building. Probably condemned, if she had to guess. “How did you escape? Are you okay?”
“Well... that’s just it,” Sylvia sighs. “This isn’t real. You’re asleep, you’re having a nightmare. Auradon’s under a sleeping curse, sunshine, I promise this isn’t real.”
Oliver blinks, looking at her, then at the door, shaking his head. “I don’t believe you.”
“Hey, sunshine, it’s me,” Sylvia takes his hand. “It’s me. I promise. You’re just asleep. Everything’s fine-- well, evil takeover, sleeping curse, everyone’s trapped in their nightmares-- but everything’s fine. This isn’t real.” She shakes her head softly as she says that, smiling at him.
They bite their lip and look at the door again. Reaching up, Sylvia turns their head away. “It’s okay, it’s okay. You just want your family to be okay, right? I know, I know. But I promise you it’s just a nightmare. It’s not real, your family is fine. You’re safe. You’re safe.”
They sniffle and hug her tightly. Sylvia smiles, hugging them back, rubbing their back. “Come on, realistically, who’s ever gonna look at your grandpa’s story and try to make that hat again? Who’s ever gonna take that story and go, ‘I’m sure it’ll be fine, I can do it and this won’t happen’? Nobody, sunshine, nobody is gonna do that, is gonna do this. I promise. I promise.”
Oliver sighs, nodding slowly, smiling weakly...
...Sylvia chuckles when they jolt awake. “Morning. Well, afternoon. If you can even believe that. C’mon, we’d better get back to the garage. Nancy, Sammy, and Lily are already there. We’ll work something out from th--”
“Eretria,” he interrupts, looking around between the three and shaking his head anxiously. “No, no, I gotta-- I gotta wake Eretria first. I’ll meet you, okay? The garage? I’ll meet you. Go on back, I’ll be there, just go.” He gets his stuff together quickly.
“Oliver--” Sylvia starts.
“Go! I’ll join you, it’ll be fine,” they smile at their friends before heading out abruptly.
Sylvia sighs, flinging a hand at the door, shaking her head. Heather rubs her shoulders. “He’ll be okay.”
“Yeah, it’s Oliver,” Grayson agrees. “They’ll probably come back with snacks and half a dozen unfinished plans they borrowed from their sister. C’mon, we should meet up with the girls.”
Sylvia sighs and nods, worried.
