basically lola's name has aalways made me wonder bc. it's really not a really american name as far as i know, but it isn't really... a fully italian one. but, her last name is unequivocally italian, and i don't mean it like "i've looked up the diffusion of it in the world" but like, one of the most ancient and imprtant pizza places of naples is called lombardi's.

now, one option we might consider is that her parents chose the name simply because they liked the sound of it, and. fair. i mean, i like to give reasons to everything but it might be the case.

another possibility is that she's got some hispanic heritage to her, and it does work. but, especially since i'm just an european white person, and it would bring her i fear a bit too close to the latin/a seductres/s stereotype, which i really think it would be not great (also considering she's still a high school student). so. might be, but idk

a third option i was considering takes upon what i was saying, that being- lola isn't really a fully italian names, but it can be used as a shortening for a number of names + as my brother made me notice, there are instances of characters in verist novellas (namely one by verga i cannot for my life remember the name of) of characters that are called lola

so the hypothesis i was getting to is that her full name might be eleonora but like, she prefers being called lola for short. now i really like that idea smh, and the pros are: a.all the factors i mentioned before, b.i like it, c.there are people named eleonora that are sometimes shortened into lola, so it makes sense in that way

but there are cons too, such as that really everyone calls her lola. now if that was just the students it would work, but i can think of galloway too calling her lola. but also, galloway changes from jimmy to james basing on the moment, so. idk idk idk

i think the establishment of "viator" as a title/interfix/whatchamacallit (ok google says it's a kind of prepositional particle but that's long and nonspecific so i'm not gonna use it) in endwalker is really really interesting. the existence of a word that can just culturally replace a part of your name, a part that appears to bind you to family? a title that is a literal social marker of exile. to be so completely disowned by nation and homeland that even the name they call you is revoked and altered.

other interesting thing about that is that "viator" is clearly meant to be taken as derived from "violator," as in, one who has broken the law or social code to the point where they can no longer be considered a citizen (i.e. [gestures at everything zenos did]). but in latin, viator actually means traveler. which i think is so fucking interesting. you are one who left us. one who strayed from home.

OTHER interesting related thing is that cid is still apparently Cid nan Garlond, according to gaius/nero/basically every garlean who uses his old name. like, cid is kind of infamous, right? highly skilled inventor, intended inheritor of an important legacy, who, from their perspective, sold his soul and principles to the enemy, ran off over to eorzea and put garlemald's proprietary magitek to use doing whatthefuckever he wanted. so why haven't they disowned him officially yet? why isn't he Cid viator Garlond?

ok the doylist explanation could very well be "they hadn't come up with the concept of viator during 1.x / arr and it was too late to retcon by the time of endwalker" but like, in universe. ignoring that. is viator reserved for like, nobility? is it a thing that needs to be done by immediate family and after midas's death, there wasn't anybody around to declare it? but actually i think the most likely explanation is based on the fact that nero bitches about his reputation and says he's "still the young prodigy of magitek," and gaius invites him to a position working directly for him, in the praetorium. they haven't officially exiled him cause they're still lowkey hoping he'll come to his senses and come take his father's place. which is Not happening but they just wanna leave the door open, just in case.

No bc I literally don't understand what the actual FUCK paramore were thinking joining the biggest tour in the world as an OPENER as a replacement for an EU tour that fans gave been asking for for the longest time *AFTER* the presale period for said tour tickets (that cost an arm, a leg, your first born child, a blood sacrifice and your kidney on the black market excluding accommodation and transport 🙂) has already ended a MONTH ago and somehow thinking fans would actually be happy abt this. Like I seriously cannot understand their train of thought behind this. Literally who signed off on this. Who genuinely thought this was a good idea and not a massive "fuck you" to EU fans, some of which (like us here, hi, remember us? It's been 12 years this week...) have been waiting for TEN+ years wishing and hoping and holding out hope we would have our special moment seeing everyone else get to have theirs and just have so much fun and awesome experiences while we sit and watch and tell ourselves someday, somehow, it will be us.... And then whenever it is time for shows to happen (bc pmore is not a touring band, there's only one shot and it's when there's an album out - so it's been at least 6 years for everyone here) we either get ignored or.. whatever the hell this is.

Like I don't think you understand so ill say it again... THEY ANNOUNCED THEIR EU TOUR IS AS AN OPENER FOR THE BIGGEST ARTIST IN THE WORLD WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN GET TICKETS ANYMORE AND *BASICALLY* CALLED IT THEIR EU TOUR BC THEY HAVENT SAID ANYTHING ABT ACTUALLY DOING ONE OF THEIR OWN.... yeah.

And don't even get me started on the ppl trying to gaslight EU fans into feeling bad or make us the bad guy here for not being happy with this shitty arrangement... Yes, this is big for them. Yes, they're gonna make a shit ton of money and yes, h and t are friends so they're literally chilling with friends for months (extra fun for them) but bands are literally nothing without the fans and we're being told to just smile and suck it up and be happy for them bc somehow money and fame matter more than the people who got you where you are and are just asking you for something as basic as respect bc they're literally being treated below everyone else... That's all it is abt, right?
