Favorite thing about them: She's funny. Her pretentious would-be intellectualism and her attempts to show off her "wisdom" and "talents" create humor whenever she appears.

Least favorite thing about them: Her pompous insensitivity when Lydia runs off with Wickham. When her whole family is facing the threat of permanent disgrace, her response is to quote Frances Burney's Evelina and preach a sermon about female virtue.

Three things I have in common with them:

Random headcanon: She's allergic to feathers. This is a completely random headcanon, with no basis in Austen's writing, based on the slapstick gag in the Wishbone episode "Furst Impressions" where Caroline Bingley's gaudy feathered headdress makes Mary sneeze when they first meet. That Wishbone episode was my childhood introduction to Pride and Prejudice.

Unpopular opinion: She's not unfairly discriminated against because she's a nerd. She's not mocked for being socially awkward; she's mocked for being a pretentious, annoying know-nothing-know-it-all. Now, this doesn't mean we can't sympathize with her; after all, the reason why she puts so much effort into being "intellectual" and "accomplished" is to make up for her homely looks in a society where only marriage can secure her future, and she's a showoff because otherwise she would always be ignored in favor of her pretty sisters. Nor does it mean her father's dismissive attitude toward her isn't mean-spirited, or that she doesn't deserve to be viewed with more sympathy and depth in new adaptations and fics. But it's okay that she's a comic character, and it wasn't "internalized misogyny" on Austen's part to make her one. I don't headcanon her as being on the autism spectrum either: I understand why other people do, but to me at least, her stilted, verbose way of speaking seems cultivated to show off her intellect, not natural. (I don't mind when anyone else headcanons her as autistic, though.)

as a kid, i did ballet for Years. it was my one super steady sport and i had to unfortunately quit when i was older :( but i do miss it everyday. i did venture into football as well (actual football) and i was a midfielder / winger

i'm not sure honestly? but on more than one occasion i have had people come up to compliment either how pretty i am or my hair? so we'll go with my hair 💕

green! but it depends on the day because sometimes it's hazel or sometimes it's green with little blue chunks in it. depends really. my eyes are little mood rings

scary movies or happy endings?

honesty i love both. i'm a big horror fan but im also a sucker for a movie with a happy ending so? can i pick a horror movie with a good final girl?

any talents?

guitar (classical, electric and acoustic), singing (i used to be in choir as a kid, fun fact), piano and creating my own music. just lots of music to go around because i love and adore music

not only do i love music (go figure) but im a super big fan of writing, i love reading, photography and filming, and art (im no digital artist but i do love to Observe)

yes, two dogs but i'd really like to get a cat some day

last time i measured myself was at the hospital last year and according to them, i was 5'6. that's the biblically accurate answer. i feel tall some days, short the next. it depends (it doesn't)

obviously loved any and all of my music classes, in high school i took theater as an elective and had the most phenomenal teacher who made me fall in love with the subject and i enjoyed history as well as a kid. also liked english but more so the creative writing aspect

dream job?

there are so many choices out there but probably teaching? get my summers off, paid leave and it's something i've always wanted to do since i was little

as a kid, lip always loved the puzzle pages of his mother's newspaper. he liked colouring in the squares of the crossword puzzle before he realised letters there were clues on to fill them properly.

growing up, he finds it peaceful to complete the mind games and crosswords - even if he doesn't always get them right

when ron comes into the picture, they sit together on rainy days solving the crossword and trivia questions whilst snuggling under blankets

as a team, these two are unbeatable. if they ever have trivia night with the guys, they're always the ones to beat. ron comes in particularly handy with the tricky history questions and lip covers anything sport and pop culture

these two have such a vibrant dynamic of almost being able to share thoughts with a look, they're unstoppable and good luck beating them

WEBGOTT

these nerds love movie marathons. they take turns picking the films, but let's be honest, these two have wayy too much energy to cope with sitting in silence for hours, so the best part is the running commentary they deliver

they're hilarious and ridiculous and while their friends are scared to be around them when debating the intricacies of david fincher movies, joe's favourite part is always having someone to bounce ideas off of and someone to enjoy that with him. even if they're arguing non-stop, it makes him giddy knowing that web cares enough to listen and argue back

sometimes mid-argument, joe will just stop talking and take in web's pouting lips or impassioned eyes and completely forget what he was saying, because it doesn't matter anymore. what matters most is that david is listening to him and comfortable voicing his pretentious (see: wrong) opinions

web loves seeing joe's face illuminated by the light onscreen, hearing him laugh at david's interjections, throwing an arm around him and pulling him close. they fit together so easily, he could imagine doing this his whole life

BABEROE

babe's a softie and his favourite part of domestic life is just coming home to gene everyday. their house becomes his favourite place because the person he loves most in the world is there

he knows that when gene asks how his day went, he actually cares about the answer. babe is surrounded by strong characters who are constantly giving him advice, but when he stresses to gene, he gets a soft smile and calming, comforting words back

gene doesn't pretend to know how to fix things but is always there to reassure babe that the world isn't going to end just because he forgot to send his mother a birthday card

for gene, it's the little things like feeling seen and supported by babe when he needs to offload on how horrible his shift was. gene is a very private person so babe feels honoured to be trusted with gene's rants about stupid protocol, authorised signoffs and long hours.

gene appreciates how quickly babe picks up on his mood and puts in effort to make everything as comfortable as possible if he's wound up.

3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year

oooooh, tough decision here. i have a few lines i'm very fond of in Petrichor, Pineapple and Pomegranate, in heavy, and in A Care To Fill The Vessel Of Your Heart. scene wise, both Rebirth (Coming Home) and Maelstrom, the water told me have scenes that were actually a pain in the arse to write but i love how they came out in the end!

let's go with with these lines from A Care To Fill The Vessel Of Your Heart because I wrote Care after a terrible case of burnout from Kinkuary and i remember being so proud that i managed to fit a whole sex scene (rated M 😌😌) into a wee paragraph:

"And it turns out Harry Potter holds stars in his hands, and they spark all over Draco’s body as Potter pushes him against the damp brick wall outside The Attic, pushes their bodies together over the softest bed Draco has had under him in a while, pushes into Draco with a gentle touch Draco is not used to. They flare all over Draco’s body, as Potter’s hands cradle his face, as they meld together like wax dripping off the side of a forgotten candle, as Draco spills his adoration into Potter’s mouth, over his lips, his chin."

(the repetition may feel a little weird out of the context of the fic, but i wrote this... uh, how do i put it? very pretentiously, stylistically so. yeah. lol)

13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year

oh! i have a weird relationship with music that i usually brush off with a "i'm not a music person," which isn't entirely true! but i find it very hard to listen to music while doing other things. music is for dancing or for just sitting down and listening (is this my ocd? is this my personality? idk sometimes they'e one and the same) so i don't often listen to music while writing! it's very hard not to get distracted by a lot of the music i love and i end up not writing at all but dancing/singing along at my desk when i try it!

when i do, i'm very picky and very specific about it! i'm a big film score nerd, so when i need a soundtrack for a fic, i pick a score i think fits the mood of the fic and play it while writing!

i wrote Forever Yours/Yours Forever to the soundtrack of Mary Magdalene (2018), and Maelstrom, the water told me to the soundtrack of If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) ... i also write a lot to gregorian chants hahahaha anyway i'll stop exposing my weirdness all over the internet now, thank you friend <3

Here is my take that might be considered hot but shouldn't be, you dont need to be a lighting expert to love and understand the lighting behind a piece of work, in fact, that's kinda the point of it! It exists to tell the story and show the feelings or motivations of characters, they use our own emotions to guide us through the story. Sure there is a technical aspect of it and as a tech nerd i think the main thing that excites me about looking into the tech side is seeing how i might recreate something like that or change it to tell my story. The majority of lighting is underrated. Anyways, this is enough pretentious film school nerd talk for one day, but your opinions and thoughts on the story matter and have value, dont let anyone tell you otherwise

I just read a YouTube comment that theorized that Echoes of the Eye (the song) is actually part of the vision the Hatchling shows to the Prisoner - like the music is actually diegetic - and the Prisoner sees this story of their impact on the universe over hundreds of thousands of years with this beautiful music made from instruments they've never heard before and then they echo their interpretation of it back to you with their final message (Departure) and I almost started crying at work

I just found again this list my uncle made me of movies to watch when I was recovering from top surgery and I forgot how great it is (and how many of these I still haven't seen 😬)

In honor of the white savior narrative vehicle Green Book winning Best Picture, I encourage you all to go watch Blindspotting, also released this year, which is about two friends grappling with the relationships of race and class in modern Oakland, starring Daveed Diggs (!!!) and Rafael Casal and helmed by first-time feature director Carlos López Estrada, a Mexican-American filmmaker. It's really really well-made, personal, startling, and funny, and I'm sad it never got the wide release or recognition it deserved.
