Just realized I’m never gonna know canonically what JR’s house was supposed to look like or what the layout is- guess it’s up to me to make vague rooms and never explain how they work or connect.
The Scheimpough Household is a liminal space confirmed.

Finn crashed into a pile of crates, pain exploding across his back as his breath was knocked out of him. The tall, pale form of Dante stood over it, leering down as though it were a bug he were about to squash. His heart thumped wildly in his chest, blood rushing pas his ears so loud he could barely even hear it when Dante spoke next.
"Aww what's the matter?" the Kestrel jeered. "I thought a beast like you would know how to put up more of a fight."
Finn growled and unsheathed the knife in its belt. He leapt up and charged towards Dante, a snarl escaping his throat, but was yanked back by a hand on his tail. Its snarl turned into a cry of pain as Dante's nameless lackey caught it, twisting its arm behind its back and jerking its head back by its hair. Blood was dripping down his face from the cut on his forehead, and one eye was quickly becoming hard to see out of from the swelling.
Dante sauntered over and gripped Finn's chin tight enough to bruise. "Look at you. Absolutely pathetic." He sneered. "It's probably a good thing your family disowned you when they did-"
Finn wrenched its head out of Dante's grasp and lunged as far forward as it could, snapping its teeth and very narrowly missing the other boy's fingers. Dante stumbled back, eyes going wide for a few seconds, before narrowing into thin slits.
Finn swallowed. Shit. He should not have done that. It really should not have done that.
"I'm going to make you pay for that you disgusting little-"
"What on Earth is going on here?"
All three heads turned towards the sound of a new voice. In the entrance to the alleyway stood an unusually tall figure in a purple satin vest, staring at the scene with an expression of incredulity. Finn's heart sank. Great, just perfect. It was like a club meeting for people who hated him. Now they only needed its parents to complete the set.
"None of your business, Amor," Dante shot back. "Don't get involved."
Inigo looked furious.
"None of my-" He cut himself off with a disbelieving laugh. "Oh you really are stupid, aren't you."
He stalked into the alley, anger written in every line in his body. Finn jerked around, struggling to try and get out of the lackey's grip, but to no avail. His knees were starting to feel weak, and his breathing began to pick up. Its eyes darted from Dante to Inigo, wondering which one of them would be the one to kill it. Probably whoever got their hands on him first.
But Inigo barely strode straight past Finn, barely even sparing it a glance. Instead, he went for Dante, curling his hand into a fist. Dante backed up a few steps warily, but Inigo didn't stop. He swung his fist and cracked it against the other Kestrel's jaw so hard Finn almost swore he could hear the bones break. Its ears went flat against its head.
Dante went sprawling. Dante's little minion shouted wordlessly and let go of Finn, who fell to the ground with a thud. But before the lackey could join the fight, there was the familiar click of a gun barrel, and suddenly Inigo had a pistol aimed right at their chest. Everyone froze.
“Get out of here," Inigo said, tone scarily flat.
“Hey hey hey-" The unnamed kestrel his hands up and laughed nervously. "What do you think you’re going to do with that? No killing on the Isles, remember?”
Inigo rolled his eyes. “Please. Are you really so egotistical that you think yourself significant enough to be worth getting exiled from the Isles?" He grinned maliciously, finger tightening on the trigger. Both Finn and the lackey went pale. "There are plenty of other ways to cause damage without killing you. Now leave while you still have both of your kneecaps.”
He didn't need to be told twice. The lackey tore out of the alley as if the grim reaper himself was on his tail. Inigo watched him go with a face halfway between fury and disinterest, but when he turned to face Finn his expression was decidedly softer.
“You alright there, Finn?” he asked, holding out a hand. Finneas gaped at him, its mind still reeling, trying to catch up to what the hell just happened. At Inigo's raised eyebrow, he startled, and took the offered hand, allowing himself to be hauled back his feet.
“I didn’t need your help," it choked out, though its voice was breathy and hoarse and definitely undermined its words. "I had this handled.”
Inigo snorted, but it lacked the derision that usually accompanied it. “Sure you did, buddy.”
A cough from behind Inigo reminded them both that there was still someone else in the alley. Inigo turned around, annoyance flickering across his face.
“Do you know what you’ve just done?" Dante screeched. There was blood running down his nose, staining his expensive jacket. "When my parents hear about this-“
“Yeah?" Inigo interrupted. "And what are they going to do? Your family’s not the only one with power around these parts, dickhead.”
He dropped Finn's hand and crossed the alley, his earlier anger returning in full force. Finn had thought it had become rather good at provoking anger from the Kestrel, bringing to light the rougher side he hid under a suave, unaffected cover.
But evidently he must have been holding out on him all those times they fought, because it was nothing compared to this. Even when it wasn't on the receiving end, it found himself a little frightened.
Inigo reached down and lifted Dante by his collar with one hand, so close that their noses were practically touching. Dante' blanched, looking more terrified than Finn had ever seen him.
“Now you listen to me closely, Achuart," Inigo spoke, in a tone that was barely loud enough to hear. "If I ever, and I mean ever, catch wind of you bothering Finn again, if you even so much as look at it, breathe near it, I will make your life a living hell. Every time one of my ships meets one of yours on the seas, we will sink it. Every prize you ever win, I will find a way to steal it. I will rob you of your entire fortune and cost your pathetic little family everything. Do I make myself clear?”
Finn had never seen Dante lose control like this. Yet here he was now, looking about two seconds away from fainting. He nodded vigorously, one hand coming up to try and pry Inigo's fingers away from his slender throat.
Inigo noticed, and snorted. He let go of Dante, who scrambled not to fall back down, and dashed towards the mouth of the alley. Just as he was about to turn the corner, he paused, and glared over his shoulder. Finn felt a shiver go down its spine, but Inigo was unaffected. He glared right back, and Dante's confidence drained away.
Then, they were alone.
The next couple minutes were filled with awkward silence. Finn was still breathing hard, unable to believe what had just happened. What was Inigo thinking?
“Here. Let's get you cleaned up. I'll buy you a drink.”
Finn snapped his head up to meet Inigo's gaze. “Why did you do that," it demanded shakily.
A crinkle of confusion formed between Inigo's brows. “Uh… what do you mean, why? Because you were getting the shit beat out of you.”
Finn shook his head. Inigo didn't get it. How could he? He knew nothing about the situation. He'd just made things so much worse.
“No, no no no no. You shouldn't have intervened. You don’t understand what you’ve just done. He’ll come after me. He’s not going to forget this he’ll fucking kill me-“
“Okay, nope, calm down." Inigo held his hands up placatingly. "Dante’s a coward, and his family can't risk starting anything with mine. He won’t try anything while I’m on your side.”
Finn couldn't breathe.
It gasped for air, but its head was spinning and its heart was pounding and it couldn't feel anything, couldn't see anything. He was so, so fucked. It felt like it was being choked.
“No- no you can’t- you don’t- he’s going to kill me, oh god- fuck- I’m so fucking dead.” He gripped his forearms, claws digging into his skin hard enough to draw blood.
“Hey." Finn flinched at the feeling of a hand on its shoulder. Inigo's face swam into view, looking disconcertingly concerned. "Take a deep breath. You’ll be alright.”
Finn, unsure of what else to do in the face of Inigo's sudden care, sucked in as much air as he could, and released it slowly. The world around it began to come back into focus.
"That's it," Inigo coaxed. "Just keep breathing. You're okay, you're safe. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you."
Finn nodded, and drew in another breath. It took a while, but Inigo was surprisingly patient, continuing to encourage Finn to take his time and focus on keeping his breathing even. The hand never left its shoulder.
When he'd mostly calmed down, Inigo flashed him a smile, squeezing his shoulder before letting go.
“If that guy ever bothers you again you come straight to me, alright? I’ll take care of it.”
Finn swallowed, but still nodded again. He didn't really believe that Inigo could, or even would protect him. But at the same time...
“Why did you help me?”  it croaked, still feeling embarrassingly fragile. Inigo gave him a weird look.
“Isn’t it obvious?”
“Not… not really." Finn hunched its shoulders. Should it have been obvious?
Inigo studied him for a few moments, and then sighed, closing his eyes. “Look, I know we don’t exactly get along," he started, gesturing between the two of them. "But you’re important to Joanna, which means you’re important to me. And I’m not gonna sit by and let my girlfriend’s best friend get beaten into a bloody pulp over some stupid grudge. Not even I’m that petty.”
Finn blinked, taking a moment to process this, then made a noise that could have been considered a laugh under different circumstances. “I- I kind of thought you were about to join in," it confessed. He felt a little bad saying it out loud now, right after Inigo had actually saved him from Dante.
“What, in beating you?" Inigo looked at it incredulously. "Now why would I do that?”
“You do it all the time," Finn pointed out. It wasn't as if the two of them weren't responsible for a good number of each other's bruises. Inigo folded his arms across his chest.
“That’s different," he protested. "Those are just little spars. I’m not going to hurt you when you’re defenseless. If we get in a fight it’s going to be a fair one." After a moment's pause, he added, "Besides you’re the one who usually starts it.”
“You hate me," Finn tried.
“Do I? Or did you just assume that I do because I’m a Kestrel?”
Finn... didn't know what to make of that. He flushed and turned away, embarrassed and slightly ashamed. But to its surprise, Inigo laughed, and slung an arm around its shoulder.
“I know the Achuarts. They’re a rotten bunch, every last one of them. A stain on the Kestrels’ reputation if you ask me. And you might be an asshole, but not that kind of asshole." He shrugged. "And… hey, you’re not terrible all the time. You have your moments.”
It was meant to be a joke, Finn knew that, but hearing that Inigo didn't actually despise his very existence flipped some kind of switch, loosened by the rest of the day's events.
“Oh.” Its voice sounded suspiciously thick. Inigo's eyes and smile softened. He removed his arm to ruffle Finn's hair.
“Now how about that drink?” he suggested. Finn sniffed, straightened his posture, and smiled back weakly.
“Yeah… yeah I think I’d like that," it said quietly.
Inigo cheered and began leading them both out of the alley and back towards the tavern. The walk was quiet at first, but a sudden thought occurred to Finn as they approached the town square. He stopped suddenly, eliciting a confused look from Inigo.
“Um..." It fidgeted with its thumbs. "Could you maybe not tell Jo about any of this?”
Inigo's mouth twitched upwards uncertainly, as though he wasn't sure if Finn was joking or not. “She’s going to know something happened one way or another," he pointed out. "You don’t exactly look great, my friend.”
“I know I know, just…” It grimaced, thinking about how badly Joanna would already freak out when she saw it tomorrow. If she knew anything about Dante... “Please?”
Inigo eyed him consideringly for a few moments, pondering the request over. Eventually he shrugged, “Fine," and kept walking.
It took Finn a second to realize that Inigo had actually agreed. When it did, it ran to catch up with him.
“Wait- Really? You won't say anything to her?”
“Yeah, that’s what I said isn’t it?”
Finn laughed in disbelief. A grin stretched across his face.
“Well would you look at that," it teased. "You do know how to keep secrets from your girlfriend.”
Inigo glanced sharply over at him, but his face was amused. “Oh, you-“
He reached over and grabbed Finn by the shoulder, twisting it into a headlock and grinding his knuckles into its scalp.
"Wh- hey- no- stop!" Finn pushed away from Inigo, who let him go with no resistance. Both of them were laughing now, a stark contrast to their usual dynamic. But Finneas found that it didn't really... mind that.
Inigo had stepped in on his behalf to rescue him from the greatest pain in the ass he'd faced since he was a child. Maybe he... wasn't so bad after all. Maybe it could see a bit of what Joanna saw in him.
Inigo jerked his head towards the tavern entrance, and the two of them continued their walk.

As always, Finneas belongs to @finnified
We were talking about what would happen once Inigo found out about Dante. And I thought hey what if this was the thing that finally let them get along? So here we are.
