Pixel art animation to accompany “A Place of Our Own” from one of the upcoming Thirteenth Hour sequels. I think the track is just about done. There’s a little scene at the end of the first book where the main characters, Logan and Aurora, look up into the night sky overlooking the house they’ve built and seen an aurora (the southern lights, in their case). In future books, we find out how they created their home - an island refuge against the pulls and demands of the world. I Write ✍️. Why do I write? What I speak about may trigger some people as I will mention a bit about grief and loss. When I was a child, a loved one passed away. A sister (everyone is a sister or brother whether you’re blood related or not) in my church, whom was older, approached me with a journal to write out any thoughts and emotions on each page 📝 regardless of what comes out. Doesn’t matter if what comes out is bad or good, just write out what is inside, for keeping emotions and thoughts trapped within is unhealthy for our well-being. I am paraphrasing to let you all know. Sister knew I would be going through some difficult moments and showed me love for my well-being. Right away, she showed me knowledge; another option to release the pain that I was feeling. I am grateful for souls like Sister. Sister, in that moment was assertive, kind, empathetic, intuitive and a protecter with her energy towards my soul. Through journalling, I have been able to HEAL through painful experiences. Some of us may not have many options of support, therefore, journalling is an option. This is one of the many benefits of journaling for your well-being. I have been able to gain clarity and figure out solutions through journaling. Do not shy away from sharing this post either, never know who will benefit from reading this. HEALING through HELPFUL TOOLS, that support the quality of your life is WORTH ENGAGING in. If you don’t have access to paper and/or writing tools; 1. you may ask your neighbour, friend, family member, an institution you are involved in or close by, or community outreach programs 2. you can use your finger as a pencil and write in soil or sand. Maybe you can connect with the Earth as well to support the healing process 3. Get Creative! If there's one theme that runs all the way through the upcoming album, "The Place Called Home", it's the story of how people find ways to feel "at home" and stable despite pressure of every kind surrounding them: the ticking of time, roadblocks in the way of one's goals, fear of failure, struggling to find one's identity, political instability. What is the pile of paper? It’s the embryonic stage of a new album. They’re more commonly called “songs”, scratched out onto whatever was handy while the lightning was still bouncing back and forth within the bottle, captured in chicken scratch that was flying from the pen at the speed of fleeting inspiration. Sneaking It In

I have plenty of days where I can't commit a lot of time making music or being creative. Lately, I've been trying to be more intentional about sneaking in even 5-10 min out of my day to sing and play guitar. Some days, I’ll settle for literally 2 minutes of just strumming. I’ll take what I can get.

I typically find myself making excuses that I don't have enough time to practice. I often beat myself up about it rather than actually changing my approach.  I'm not saying my newly found method can replace an hour long practice sessions. Not at all. But if I make more of a habit working on my craft in these small pockets of time, then maybe I am more likely to have success in sharpening my skills during periods where I may have more of it.

I've found that these short bursts of creativity has help me produce new ideas that I can mess around with and potentially turn into something real. It's actually become an interesting turn of events. For me claiming to not have any time, I seem to be putting out more content than ever. Go figure! Could it be because of this new thing I'm trying? Maybe.

Because of these "mini" practice sessions, it naturally takes the pressure off of feeling like I have to produce solid gold every single time. It doesn't even allow me to overthink the creative choices I make (which I do too often). If I don't think of something "good enough", it's not a big deal, it was only 10 minutes of my time, and I have another chance to catch that great idea on the next round.

Somewhere in those ideas, lies buried gold. Keep on digging and eventually you will find it.

If you're a creative type like myself, or just someone trying to find even just 5 minutes to pursue something you want to get better at, sneak it in no matter how short. What's the worse that could happen?
