“A boy? Seriously? A date???” Sonny looked absolutely dumbfounded.

“He’s a really nice guy, Dad, I swear,” You and Sonny’s daughter sighed, already knowing Sonny would act like this.

You and Sonny had been sitting on the couch together when your daughter had approached the two of you, all dressed up and looking nervous over something. And then she told you that she was going on a date… which you knew about, and Sonny did not. And for good reason.

“Who is this guy? Have I met him? Who are his parents?”

“Dad, calm down.”

“Well I don’t want some sleazeball taking out my daughter.”

“I’m sure he’s a nice boy. She’ll be fine, Sonny,” You gently touched his arm. “She’s old enough to make decisions on who she can date.”

Sonny huffed, calming at your touch, but still clearly annoyed at the thought of his daughter dating.

“Is he picking you up?”

“Yea, soon.”

“I’m a cab or a car?”

“I’m his car.”

“I’m walking you out there to meet him.”

Your daughter looked slightly worried by this, but shrugged, “Fine..” She paced around the living room as the three of you waited. When she eventually got the next that he was there, she begrudgingly told Sonny that she was leaving. You don’t think you’ve ever seen Sonny get up so fast, immediately asking your daughter if she had her phone, her keys, her paper spray, her jacket, her portable charger, her this, her that…

“Sonny?” You spoke up just before Sonny was out the front door.

“Yeah, doll?”

“Don’t freak him out too bad, okay?”

Sonny rolled his eyes playfully before leaving for about 10 minutes and coming back. He plopped back down onto the couch beside you.

“How did that go?” You ask, leaning against him.

“He seems… okay. I told them to be back before midnight. And they better be.”

“I’m sure they will, Sonny. She’ll be fine.”

“I’m still going to text her every 20 minutes.”

Turns out Sonny is pretty terrible at sexting.

He's great in person, but typing out naughty words is too embarrassing for a good Catholic boy.

You still enjoy the way he reacts when you sext him, loving how flustered and blushy he gets.

He's finishing up his paperwork for the day when he gets a text from you.

"I can't stop thinking about you Sonny."

He smiles, as he's missed you too.

"What are you thinking about doll?" He replies innocently.

He reads your reply of "how you would react if I was naked when you got home...." and almost drops his phone on the desk.

Okay, I’m going to preface this by saying . . .I am not a Rollins fan. Especially when it comes to pairing her with Sonny. It is my firm belief that she leads him on, and relies on him too much to the point of affecting his happiness. I think we see this a when she sleeps with the bartender after West Virginia and alludes to it when talking to him, and we see it big time when she blames him for leaving to be an ADA. So, if you don’t feel this way or this offends you . . . I’d stop reading now, because there is a little Amanda bashing in this. Sorry? 

It is your belief, that Dominick ‘Sonny’ Carisi is one of the good ones. How he hasn’t been snatched up yet, you don’t know. But three dates in, you’re determined to not let him go. He’s a perfect gentleman, a great cook, and when he whispers something sweet in your ear, you know he means it. 

You find out his big flaw about a month in: Amanda Rollins. When he starts dropping the occasional plan, you don’t make a big stink out of it. He has friends and a life outside of you. Just like you have a life outside of him, and he’s perfectly fine when you have to drop dinner plans, to go console your heartbroken best friend. 

But then, it develops into him being called away during dates. Almost every single one. You’re on the verge of saying something when he finally just shuts his phone off. You raise an eyebrow at that and he smiles and says, “I’d rather be here tonight.” 

He chooses you repeatedly after that, and it makes you feel good. But that doesn’t stop those little jealous feelings from creeping up. And then he starts leaving again, and this time you corner him about it. And he admits, “She blamed me for leaving. She said she’d be fine if I had just stayed her partner.” 

You’ve never felt so much anger, because that is manipulation at it’s finest. And you tell him that. “Dom, I’m not saying you can’t help her or be her friend, but . . . she’s using you. You’re a safety net, and I’ll be honest . . .I don’t like the idea of my boyfriend being a safety net for someone else It makes me feel like if she were to offer you a chance you’d leave me in a heartbeat.” 

His jaw drops, “Doll, no. I wouldn’t do that.” 

You take a deep breath, “I just . . . I need to know that you want me Dominick. That you’re not settling.” He kisses the breath out of you, and spends the rest of the night proving you’re the right choice. 

He talks with Amanda the next day, “I can’t be the only one you call now Rollins. I . . .I have something special with Y/N. I think they’re the one, and I don’t want to lose out on it. I love them.” 

“Did they give you an ultimatum? Because that’s just . . .” 

“They didn’t have to. I’m choosing them Amanda. I know for a fact that they love me, and care about me, and want me to be happy . . . I can’t say the same about you.”

-sometimes, he talks to inanimate objects when he’s alone.

-In high school, he had a pet fish named bubbles.

-Yes, he regrets the mustache.

-His favorite movie is Zootopia, but he tells people it’s The Godfather.

-Yes, he babysits Jesse, Billie, and Noah sometimes.

-He tried teaching himself skateboarding in college, it didn’t go well.

January 19th

you worked on the team for a few months before sonny asked you out

you were wary at first cause ya know ... getting involved w co workers normally ends terrible

but you couldn’t lie , you’ve been crushing hard

so he took you ice skating for your first date

you both were tired of the basic, fancy dinners that never went anywhere

you were dressed in black tights , a navy blue sweater , and a long , black over coat

you just grabbed a random pair of black ankle boots , as you were gonna take them off for your skates anyway

sonny said he’d pick you up at 7 on the dot , but really arrived at 6:59 to be safe

it was a short 9 minute drive from your apartment to the rink

the ride consisted of some awkward chit chat about the songs on the radio and the weather

you two never had issues talking non stop w each other but tonight felt different

neither of you wanted to mess it up

so you guys get there , get your ice skates on , and begin

shortly after , the conversation came much easier

especially after all the falls you guys took

it was a night full of laughter , jokes , and just great chemistry

you guys skated for a little over an hour and decided to leave , just keeping the night short and simple for a first date

the car ride home was much more talkative

he walks you to your door once you arrive at your apartment

he almost doesn’t wanna leave , and you don’t want him to either . no denying the feelings here

so sonny knew you were tore up

he couldn’t stop thinking about you sitting at home all alone and sad

so he ordered your favorite take outs , rented some movies he had heard you talk about over the course of working together , and showed up on your door step around 9 that night

“sonny what are you doing here?”

but you were low key hype as hell to see him

“i know you’re upset and i don’t like it . i wanna help you and be there for you”

“but if you really want to be alone, i’ll leave the food and movies and give you your space”

you couldn’t turn him away even if you wanted , nobody ever really did stuff like that for you ??

February 14th

of course he’s taking you out on valentine’s day

you just don’t know where yet

he wanted it to be a surpriseeee

he told you to dress , and i quote , “cute but casual”

so you just throw on a cute blouse and leggings with a leather jacket and flats 

this time hes actually 12 minutes early 

with flowers and a pair of earings he knew you had your eyes on 

he seemed jittery but you ignore it and thank him for your gifts 

the car ride felt like your first date again

very quiet 

you try to spark conversations but his mind is else where

eventually you arrive to a small clearing from a trail 

you see a big blanket laid out with a basket and flowers and lights and the whole nine yards

Nervous Ticks of the SVU Boys

so I jumped the gun. I think I might have mixed nervous ticks and what they do when they get anxious because I feel like that’s when your nervous ticks really come out, so sincerely, my bad.

These are just my HCs; none of them are cannon that I know of. feel free to add your thoughts/send them to me! obviously don’t own these characters (things would be…different™ if I did). Didn’t include Fin this time around bc honestly the man is so chill he’s probably rolling his own joints…

Sonny Carisi

I mentioned in a previous post that I think Sonny bites his nails. Definitely a nervous tick

Very much a knee-shaker/foot-tapper

Sonny cares a lot about his presentation, so when he fiddles with his clothes a lot, he’s definitely nervous. Checking to make sure his shoes are shined properly, tie’s in the right place, hair is slicked back (so he keeps reaching to run his hand through his hair and stopping himself because he doesn’t want to mess it up).

Nervous cleaner, definitely. He’s a bit of a germaphobe, and he tries not to be “annoying” about it, but when he’s nervous or stressed, he cleans his desk – wiping down his computer equipment, straightening things up, cleaning out his files/cabinets, etc.

tries to find something to do primarily with his hands because of the smoking (not my HC, mentioned in this post) because he tries not to smoke often, so he tries to find something to do with his hands to keep from having a cigarette

Nick Amaro

has a butt ton of ticks that he hides very well from people who aren’t very familiar with him, but the squad has been around so long that they all know

adjusting. His. Clothes. For a different reason than Sonny, though. I think he sweats a little when he’s nervous, and his clothes stick to him, so the more uncomfortable he gets, the more he sweats, then his clothes stick more. It’s a vicious cycle ;-;

talks to himself about really anything having to do with the situation he’s in – trying to reason his way through it, etc.

he doesn’t chew his nails because he’s never really done that, but his hands are near his mouth a lot, likely trying to partially mask whatever expression is on his face since it would look weird if he just downright ducked his head

not necessarily a nervous tick, but disappears to the gym a lot. His normal trips to the gym notwithstanding, when Nick is going to the gym a lot more than normal, it’s because he’s working out stress/nerves/anger. (also if you happened to read my previous headcannon post (also linked above), I think the soreness from working out is also a little bit of a release for him)

given to drumming his fingers on his desk, really just trying to find something to do with his hands

clicks his pen when he’s in his office by himself. Carmen used to get annoyed by it, but now she kind of thinks it’s funny.

cracks his knuckles. He knows it’s bad for him, but he got so used to doing it before he picked up a bat that it’s kind of second-nature to him now

Rafael Barba

talks to himself a lot, muttering incoherent things under his breath

is honestly a little twitchy. All the coffee gets him hyped up on caffeine, so when his nerves are really high, he twitches almost unnoticeabley because he’s learned to control it so well. It doesn’t happen very often because he’s been in the job so long, so he tries to take it seriously and really take a few minutes to calm down

also clenches his teeth? I think it comes from having to hold his tongue so often when he was young, so he just reverts to the same behavior as he ages. this causes a reasonable percentage of his migraines

Time: Sonny Carisi x Reader

Sonny cradled the ring between his fingers. The circle of white gold was etched with a design he had come to realize symbolised the both of you. The ring had been his grandmother's, passed down through generations of his family. His mother had given him the small circlet over a year ago, the Christmas before last when he'd brought you to her house.

He remembered the box from his childhood. His mother had always been the one to remind their children of their heritage. She was from the Italian side of their ancestry, and she had vowed to her own mother to keep that heritage alive.

There was life tied to this ring, life and so much love. He had laughed it off when his mother had handed it to him; the two of you had barely just begun to get serious.

It was weeks later at Noah’s christening that things had changed. Sonny had found his gaze coming to land on you. The bliss was apparent on your radiant features as you beamed at Noah. You were happy for Olivia and Noah, and it showed as you threw your arms around the both of them.

It was when you withdrew, your eyes meeting his, your smile wide and full of joy. Sonny had felt his breath catch in his throat, he had never seen someone so beautiful. He'd realized then that you were the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, the woman that would always have a place in his heart.

Ever since then he had carried the ring in his pocket, watching and waiting for the right moment. The two of you had never talked about getting married.

That moment had never come, after what had happened with Tom Cole everything had gone to hell. Sonny had retreated into himself, he’d tried to force it all down, deal with it on his own and in the end, he had pushed you away.

Despite that the ring had never left the confines of his wallet. Sonny had tried to convince himself that he had forgotten about it but that wasn't true. He just hadn't been ready to give up on the two of you.

You were asleep now beside him, your warm cheek pressed to his bicep as you sat side by side, still in perched in those uncomfortable hospital chairs. His lower back was aching from being trapped in this position for far too long, but he couldn't bring himself to move. This was the most serene he had seen you in such a long time.

You made a noise that sounded like a snort as you buried your face even deeper into the shoulder of his shirt. He returned the ring to the inside pocket of his jacket, taking care not to awaken you.

His cheek came to rest upon your soft hair, his eyes closing once more as he remembered the nights that you would spend wrapped up in one other.

The beeping from Fin’s heart monitor remained steady as Sonny's eyes flickered open, coming to rest upon his friend’s immobile form. It had been Fin who'd told Sonny to get his head out of his ass, to get himself into therapy.

He knew that Fin was strong, that his friend was a fighter. He would pull through this and Sonny would be there to help him with his recovery. It had been a close call, any lower and the bullet would have killed him.

It made Sonny realise that time was precious, and he had wasted more than enough.

A: Realistic

• Sonny is great at giving financial advice, which is really useful as he has 3 sisters who often need it. Saving for his Mustang really gave him an appreciation for the value of money and his legal mindset helps him see through any nasty loopholes hidden away in the terms and conditions.

B: Not realistic but hilarious

• Sonny is secretly an excellent pole dancer. Bella signed up to classes and invited him along as a joke but it turns out he has the perfect form for it. His lean but muscular body and long legs make the twists and lifts easy for him plus his enthusiastic nature never let’s him feel ashamed or embarrassed by his skills.

C: Heart crushing and awful

• Sonny’s parents don’t ask him when he’s going to have kids, they used to but they could see how much it hurt him to be so ready yet still be so far away from his dream of being a Daddy. It’s one of the reasons he was so tough on Tommy, he can’t believe a guy so unprepared has a kid when he doesn’t.

D: Unrealistic but who needs canon anyway

• Since Sonny and Rafael got together Sonny’s started learning some Spanish just by hearing Rafael speak it. The trouble is the only time he speaks Spanish in front of Sonny he’s usually swearing or in bed meaning Sonny’s vocabulary is mostly limited to insults and dirty talk, not the best way to impress your future mother in law!

Headcanon for Sonny meeting reader’s family for the first time on a long weekend away?

So, I’ve imagined this scenario, multiple times with different types of families, so I’ve tried to keep it somewhat vague!!! Enjoy some sonshine! 

GN!Reader

-He’s nervous. 

-Oh. . . he’s so nervous. 

-You’ve met his family numerous times by this point, but yours lives out of state, and with his schedule it takes some planning to get there.

-His mother loads him down with homemade baked goods, and checks the clothes he’s packed to make sure he’s going to make a good impression. 

-”She’s good for you Dominick, and you’re good for her. Show them that.” 

-His leg begins bouncing when you’re about an hour away, and his fingers start tapping on the steering wheel. 

-You are silently amused, because meeting his family had been no picnic. You’d been pulled in a million different directions from the time you got there, till the time Sonny finally guided you home. 

-You slept for twelve hours after that. 

-His back goes ramrod straight when he meets your parents. 

-He introduces himself as Carisi Dominick.

-And you burst out laughing. 

-So do your parents for that matter. 

-”Just call him Sonny. No one else does, and it’ll make him happy.” 

-They do. 

-He insists on sleeping in a separate room, and he’ll barely kiss you in front of your family. 

-Your poor Catholic school boy. 

-He answers numerous questions about his job, and night school, and his choice to get a law degree. 

-Then there are the questions about his family. 

-He loosens up a bit as the weekend goes on; an arm around your waist or around your shoulders. He holds your hand a lot. 

-He makes a really great first impression. 

-However, you’re the one who has to drive home because he’s stressed himself out so bad. 

-When you get home you both decide to take a break from family visits for a while. 

-You want to spend some time just the two of you.

-His parents show up with groceries ten minutes later, unannounced to see how things went and make you dinner.

Kathy Stabler is Sonny Carisi’s 4th sister.

OK BEAR WITH ME.

Kathy and Bella Carisi look super similar. What if Dominick Carisi Sr. had another child before marrying Mrs. Carisi, and that child happened to be Kathy. Then later, he had Theresa, Gina, Sonny, and Bella.

Assuming Kathy was raised by her mother and not her father, she and the Carisi kids probably weren’t raised like siblings much or were very close, which would explain why Sonny doesn’t mention her when he talks about his sisters.
